No Changes to Solar Net Metering Next Month, Says Minister

Energy Minister Awais Leghari announced that the federal government has no intentions of ending solar net-metering in the next fiscal year.

Speaking to reporters at the LESCO headquarters, Leghari dismissed recent reports suggesting the termination of solar net-metering, emphasizing that the program remains a government priority.

Recently, there were reports that the government planned to replace solar net-metering with a gross metering system, aiming to discourage solar usage and push consumers back to the more expensive grid electricity.

However, Leghari reassured that any new policies would not impact consumers who already have solar power installations and net-metering contracts. He also mentioned that any future policy changes would be made in consultation with all stakeholders.

Since its inception, the popularity of net-metering has soared, with applications for net-metering licenses increasing by 125 percent in the current fiscal year. At present, 113,000 households have solar net-metering connections.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has died after a helicopter carrying him and other officials crashed in a mountainous and forested area of the country during poor weather conditions.

The 63-year-old, a prominent figure in Iran’s conservative and hardline political factions, had been president for nearly three years and was expected to run for re-election next year.

Raisi, born in Mashhad in northeastern Iran, was a former chief justice and a potential successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the 85-year-old supreme leader of Iran.

Raisi’s background includes religious education in Qom, and he wore a black turban, signifying his status as a sayyid – a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, which holds particular significance among Twelver Shia Muslims.

He gained experience as a prosecutor in various jurisdictions before moving to Tehran in 1985. Human rights organizations have noted his involvement in a committee of judges that oversaw executions of political prisoners in the capital.

As a longtime member of the Assembly of Experts, Raisi was involved in choosing the replacement for the supreme leader in the event of his death.

He became Iran’s attorney general in 2014 and later led the Astan Quds Razavi, a charitable trust with significant assets, appointed by Khamenei.

Raisi first ran for president in 2017, unsuccessfully challenging the re-election of former President Hassan Rouhani. In 2019, Khamenei appointed him head of the judiciary, where he positioned himself as a defender of justice and an anti-corruption figure, gaining popular support through provincial travels.

He became president in 2021, winning amid low voter turnout and the disqualification of many reformist and moderate candidates.

Raisi was known for his harsh rhetoric against Israel and the United States, particularly condemning actions in Gaza and promising revenge for attacks on Iranian interests.

He supported Iran’s “resistance” policy against sanctions imposed after the 2015 nuclear deal fell through and was a staunch ally of the IRGC and the “axis of resistance,” backing political and armed groups across the region. The Effort Speaks!

Dhaval’s passion project came with a price tag. The metal frame alone cost over almost 3.5 lakh PKR and labor charges added up to around Rs 10 lakh PKR. In total, the transformation cost approximately PKR 42 Lakhs only! But for Dhaval, it was worth every penny as they say.

Lahore – May 17, 2024: ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has unveiled its latest membership figures of 252,500, taking its membership to above quarter of a million following decades of strong growth.

It celebrated its 200,000 member landmark just seven years ago in 2017, and the new figures represent an increase of around 2% in membership since this time last year. ACCA also has more than 526,000 future members.

Ronnie Patton, president of ACCA, said: ‘The scale and scope of this achievement is amazing, and it says so much about how we attract so many people to join our worldwide community. It also highlights the substantial contribution we make to the number of qualified professional accountants across the global economy.

‘Our members live and work in 180 countries. This means that the voice of ACCA is heard in every corner of the planet, and the positive influence of ACCA members is felt everywhere. In collaboration with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), TikTok is set to become the first video-sharing platform to utilize Content Credentials technology to automatically label AI-generated content (AIGC) when uploaded from various platforms.

Understanding the potential challenges posed by AI-generated content, TikTok has implemented a robust system to enhance transparency. This initiative includes the automatic labeling of all AIGC using TikTok’s proprietary AI effects. Over the past year, more than 37 million creators have benefited from TikTok’s innovative labeling tools, promoting a clear understanding of content origins.

Furthering its transparency efforts, TikTok will soon extend Content Credentials to all its content, allowing the metadata to remain with the content even when downloaded. This feature enables users and external platforms to verify the authenticity of the content, promoting a universal standard of transparency across the digital landscape.

In partnership with MediaWise and WITNESS, TikTok is launching a series of educational campaigns aimed at enhancing media literacy. These initiatives are designed to empower users to critically assess online information, distinguishing between genuine and misleading AI-generated content. Throughout the year, TikTok, in collaboration with MediaWise, will release a series of 12 videos focused on fostering universal media literacy skills.
