Smart Ways To Avoid Traffic Jams In Pakistan

Source: Pak Solutions

Heavy traffic congestion plagues Pakistan’s big cities such as Karachi and Lahore throughout the year. Main arteries like Shahra e Faisal, Jinnah Road, and I. I. Chundrigar Road often find themselves choked, leading to major delays and frustrations for those on the move. The exact reasons for these persistent traffic snarls vary – from a surge in car ownership to deficient traffic management to worsening road conditions. However, there are feasible solutions on the horizon that can alleviate the issue.

1. Encourage Carpooling

Carpooling could help cut down the number of cars clogging up our roads. In cities where slugging through traffic is a daily chore, services offering shared rides might be a good bet. Sharing rides with colleagues or friends decreases each person’s carbon emissions while also tackling the congestion problem

2. Initiate Parking Reforms

Rethinking parking in high-traffic locales can discourage excessive car use. Countries including Norway and the US have effectively introduced parking reforms prompting drivers to rethink their dependency on personal vehicles. By restricting parking availability particularly in downtown spots, big cities across Pakistan could encourage their citizens opt for other modes of transportation

3. Create ‘Complete Streets’

Revising street designs to cater for all users – pedestrians, cyclists, and car-drivers alike, can prove crucial in easing traffic flow. Oslo city provides a model with their “complete streets” design which includes bike lanes, pedestrian paths, and public transit-friendly layouts. This method ensures all types of commuters are accommodated – an attempt that reduces dependency on cars while promoting safer and eco-friendly transportation alternatives.

4. Implement Congestion Pricing

Cities including London and Stockholm have adopted congestion pricing – charging drivers to access high-traffic areas. This strategy has shown its effectiveness in managing traffic during rush hours. A similar initiative in Karachi or Lahore could persuade people to dodge driving in congested areas or choose public transportation in its place. A question worth pondering next time while stuck in traffic: wouldn’t you value fresh air and a brisk walk over honking horns and stressful drives?

5. Map Apps are your Traffic Cheat

Live Traffic Feature on Google Maps is Finally Enabled for Pakistan
Source: Pakistnitech

In this tech-driven era, bypassing gridlocks are as easy as pulling out your smartphone. Apps such as Google Maps and Waze traffic updates on the fly, offering different ways to steer clear of busy streets. Just a quick look before you head out spare you time eating jams, even slicing precious minutes off your travel time. It’s one simple to beat the traffic game, particularly in fast-paced cities such as Karachi where road conditions are as volatile as the weather.

Do you have your own strategy? Comment below and let us know.

State Bank Of Pakistan Reveals Shortlisted Currency Note Designs

Source: PoP

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has just released a list of potential new designs for its money taking a big step in changing the country’s currency. The SBP wants to give its banknotes a fresh look after a group of experts spent months looking them over. These designs mix history with new artistic ideas and will go through more checks by designers from other countries before they hit the streets.

Honoring National Icons

The new designs show Fatima Jinnah on the 500-rupee note, while Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s famous face will stay on the 10 20, 100, 500, and 5000-rupee notes. Liaquat Ali Khan, who was Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, will appear on the 1000-rupee note. The back of this note has a picture of hands linked together, which stands for people coming together and being strong.

This redesign effort comes after the SBP’s public invitation earlier this year. The bank asked local artists and designers to submit their creative ideas for the new currency notes. Many talented people responded with enthusiasm. Dr. Sherry Abdi won first prize for her design of the 10-rupee note, while Mirza Sufyan got second place for his design. Other winners include Mirza Haroon Khan for the 20-rupee note, Ms. Maimoona Afzal for the 100 and 5000-rupee notes, Ms. Hadiya Hassan for the 500-rupee note, and Ms. Noreen Aslam for the 1000-rupee note.

The Path to Finalization

The SBP’s method shows how much they value local talent in creating the country’s visual identity. International designers will refine the shortlisted designs further, but the input of Pakistani artists remains crucial. This move recognizes the country’s artistic skill and honors its historical figures.

As the SBP gets ready to put these new notes into use, people are looking forward to seeing how these updated designs will showcase Pakistan’s deep-rooted history and hopes for the future. The new money is more than just cash—it’s a nod to the country’s background, skills, and togetherness.

Pakistan-England Series Likely To Be Shifted To UAE Or Sri Lanka

england-pakistan-test-series-in-danger-of-tv-blackout

Cricket fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming Pakistan-England Test series are in for a bit of uncertainty. With less than a month to go, the series, part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25, might not take place in Pakistan after all.

The reason? Construction delays at key stadiums are raising concerns, making a relocation to the UAE or Sri Lanka more likely.

Stadium Woes Threaten Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is racing against the clock as incomplete construction at stadiums in Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Multan poses a serious challenge. These construction projects are all part of Pakistan’s preparation for hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, a major event that the country is excited to showcase.

england-pakistan-test-series-in-danger-of-tv-blackout

However, these upgrades have put the PCB in a difficult position. If construction is paused to accommodate the Pakistan-England Test series, the stadiums may not be ready in time for the Champions Trophy. This leaves the PCB with few options — either move the series or risk jeopardizing the preparations for the 2025 mega-event.

Read More: Can Pakistan Still Qualify For World Test Championship Final?

The Alternatives

The PCB is currently exploring alternative venues for the series. While the UAE seems like the most practical option, there’s a catch. The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is scheduled to take place in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20, overlapping with the Pakistan-England series.

This scheduling conflict leaves only Abu Dhabi as a potential venue in the UAE. Not ideal, but possible. If the UAE doesn’t work out, Sri Lanka is being considered as a backup option. With time running out, the PCB is in talks with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to finalize the plan. A decision is expected soon, but the uncertainty is leaving both teams and fans in limbo.

Barmy Army’s Concerns

Adding to the drama, the Barmy Army — England’s dedicated group of traveling fans — has expressed frustration over the lack of clarity. Chris Millard, the Managing Director of the Barmy Army, shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter) addressing the confusion.

“With just over a month to go until the start of the test series between England and Pakistan, we, like everyone else, remain in the dark about whether or not it will actually be played in Pakistan,” Millard said.

Read More: England-Pakistan Test Series In Danger Of TV Blackout

He highlighted the work the Barmy Army has already done to help fans plan trips to Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. The uncertainty has created a logistical nightmare, not only for the Barmy Army but also for the fans who were looking forward to traveling.

One thing is certain, though — if Pakistan wants to keep the series at home, it will need to find a quick solution to the stadium situation. Otherwise, cricket fans might have to pack their bags for Abu Dhabi or Sri Lanka instead.

Nida Dar Explains ‘Late Congratulations’ For India’s T20 World Cup Win

nida-dar-explains-congratulations-for-india-t20-world-cup-win

Pakistan’s women’s cricket star Nida Dar found herself in hot water recently after posting a belated congratulatory message to India for their 2024 ICC T20 World Cup victory. The message came nearly two months after India’s triumph over South Africa in Barbados on June 29, sparking an unexpected wave of criticism and trolling from fans.

The controversy started when Nida Dar took to her official X (formerly Twitter) account to congratulate the Indian cricket team and wish legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli a happy retirement from T20I cricket.

Her post seemed well-intended, praising India’s win and the immense contributions of Rohit and Kohli to world cricket. However, fans were quick to point out the timing — the post came more than two months after the victory.

The Backlash Begins

Dar’s post, meant to be a heartfelt tribute, was instead met with sarcasm and trolling. One fan commented, “Bruh, it’s been more than two months. You sleeping or what?” Another joked, “Internet Explorer se post Kiya tha kya madam?” comparing the delayed post to the outdated browser’s famously slow speed.

In the age of social media, where news spreads like wildfire and every moment counts, this two-month delay seemed baffling to many. And while social media trolls often pounce on any misstep, this time it was Dar’s timing that gave them all the fuel they needed.

Nida Dar’s Explanation

Faced with the wave of criticism, Nida Dar responded yesterday, claiming that she had originally posted the message on June 30, just a day after India’s win.

According to her, the delay was due to the ban on X (formerly Twitter) in Pakistan, which prevented her post from going live at the time. She clarified that she only became aware of the post going public after media outlets picked it up.

nida-dar-india

“I initially made this post on June 30th 2024, but due to restrictions on Twitter in Pakistan, it was posted last night instead, which I learned about through the media. I am attaching both pictures to this post,” Dar explained.

However, her explanation didn’t do much to calm the storm. The ban on X (Twitter) has been in place in Pakistan since February, but many people have continued to access the platform through VPNs.

Fans quickly pointed out that this workaround is widely known and used, leading many to label Dar’s clarification as a weak attempt at damage control.

The Urgent Need For Ethics In Pakistani Morning Shows

Morning shows have become essential for every channel. They’re a big part of the entertainment industry, and anyone viral at the moment is always called over to appear on the shows. However, most of these shows have been increasingly controversial throughout the last few years. They’ve mistreated their guests by asking overly personal questions and being rude.

A horrifying example of this behavior is when the grieving father of a young girl was asked, “How did you know your daughter was raped?”

Here’s Why Morning Shows Need To Be Shut Down

More often than not, these shows prioritise what is sensational to garner views. Even if those cases are tragic and horrifying, they have victims star just for the sake of views. The aim is to attract as many viewers as possible to increase advertising revenue. As a result, topics such as domestic violence, rape, and even ghost stories are regularly discussed, often with little regard for sensitivity.

In another example, Nadia Khan overstepped boundaries when she announced Hiba Bukhari’s pregnancy that they had kept under wraps.. She pointed out some telltale signs and then began to shower the couple with congratulations.

Popular host Nida Yasir, on the other hand, is consistently overstepping boundaries and asking inappropriate questions. She faced the most backlash when she invited the parents of a deceased 5-year-old Marwah.

Given that today’s world relies heavily on social media to shape their views and opinions, it seems important to promote respect, integrity, and positivity. When promoting negative qualities, the brands associated with these shows also share the risk of ruining their image.

It seems crucial that these morning shows begin to employ ethical responsibility.

YouTube Rolls Out Enhanced Parental Controls For Teens

Source: TechCrunch

YouTube has announced a major improvement to parental control capabilities. Parents can now attach their accounts to the YouTube profile of their teenager. This feature is intended to give parents more insights into their children’s YouTube activities on the platform, such as uploads subscriptions and comments, while still keeping specific content details hidden. Parents will also receive email notifications for important events such as when their teen is live or uploads content.

Personalized Content Stays Intact

One noteworthy aspect is that despite the interconnected accounts, YouTube still suggests videos based on personalized activity for teenagers. Parents will not have the capacity to alter the age of their children via this feature——YouTube will carry on utilizing the age that was specified while setting up their account.

YouTube launches new parental controls aimed at teen accounts
Source: Authority

Besides tracking public activities, the new controls will inform parents about privacy settings changes. For instance, it will send out alerts when unspeakable videos get uploaded or private ones become public. This is part of a broader effort to give parents better oversight of their teen’s online media presence without knowing the specifics of their content interactions.

Part of a Broader Safety Initiative

This new move on YouTube’s part comes as more than one step to improve its parental controls following last year’s introduction of supervise accounts for 13-17 youngsters. As there is mounting regulatory pressure regarding underage use of social media, such as the recent allegations in Utah and Arkansas that kids are not allowed to access online services without their parents’ permission (remember to check if 13-year-olds need this before doing so), this latest step will likely serve as an important one in order for it meet upcoming requests.

YouTube may not be a traditional social media platform, but its user profiles, comment sections and ability to follow creators make it like other platforms in terms of its social functions. And these other major platforms have also introduced stronger parental controls.

The Shan Masood-led Pakistan Test team has hit rock bottom after a historic series defeat against Bangladesh. For the first time ever, Bangladesh managed to sweep Pakistan 2-0 in their own backyard.

This humiliating loss has had serious consequences, not just for Pakistan’s morale but also for their standing in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings.

Pakistan has now dropped two places to eighth, with a rating of just 66 points. This is the lowest rating Pakistan has held since 1965—a record no team would want to break.

A Historic Low for Pakistan Cricket

According to an ICC press release, Pakistan’s current rating is their lowest in nearly six decades, aside from a brief period when they weren’t ranked due to not playing enough matches.

The series defeat to Bangladesh has sent shock waves through the cricketing community, leaving fans and experts wondering where things went wrong.

While Pakistan’s players had their individual moments, the team’s overall performance was far from satisfactory. Bangladesh, on the other hand, outplayed the hosts in every department, cementing their first-ever series win against Pakistan in Test cricket.

Individual Rankings Take a Hit

The loss didn’t just hurt Pakistan’s team rankings; it also saw many of their top players slipping in the ICC individual rankings.

Babar Azam, once the pride of Pakistan cricket, endured a miserable series.Scoring only 64 runs in four innings, he has now dropped three places to 12th in the ICC Test Batting Rankings. This marks the first time in four years that Babar is out of the top ten.

Vice-captain Saud Shakeel also faced the brunt of the team’s poor performance, dropping seven spots to 20th. Abdullah Shafique, who struggled for form throughout the series, slipped from 34th to 42nd.

On the bowling side, Shaheen Afridi lost his place in the top ten, falling to 11th. Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed also saw their rankings tumble, with Naseem dropping to 35th and Abrar falling to 49th.

Rizwan Stands Tall, Others Struggle

While most of Pakistan’s big names struggled, one player held his ground: Mohammad Rizwan. The experienced wicketkeepe was Pakistan’s highest scorer in the series, amassing 294 runs across four innings. His performances have kept him steady in the rankings, where he remains the highest-ranked Pakistani batter at 10th.

There were a couple of bright spots in an otherwise gloomy scenario. Salman Ali Agha gained nine places in the ICC Test Batting Rankings to reach 31st, while Shan Masood, despite a tough series, moved up four places to 63rd.

Shagufta Ejaz’s Gift Of Gold Unveils Black Magic

Shagufta Ejaz’s experience shows that being a public figure has its risks. While fans often express their admiration in various ways.

Shagufta Ejaz recently made a guest appearance on the show ‘Nadan Maizban’ which is hosted by celebrities such as, Danish Nawaz, Yasir Nawaz, and Nida Yasir. In the show, guests and hosts swap stories, creating an engaging and fun experience for the audience. This unique format provides viewers with a fresh perspective on their favorite celebrities, offering a behind-the-scenes look that’s both captivating and entertaining.

Shagufta’s Crazy Fan Moment

Shagufta Ejaz shared how one of her craziest fans had trapped her once. She started the conversation saying how a young woman, who was not only being polite but also well-cultured, quite well-spoken as well, sent me a gift. She added, ‘It was my birthday, and the fan wanted to make sure she sent me something.’ This is a rather bold move even though Shagufta declines politely, pointing out that a birthday wish was enough.

Shagufta said she couldn’t recall if the fan had sent the gift or not. However, the strange part of the story was that she received the gifts on a regular basis, regardless of her location -whether she was in Lahore, Islamabad, or any other part of Pakistan. At first, such actions also pleased her, because it’s always nice when someone pays attention and cares for one. However, this changed as time went by and receiving gifts on a daily basis made Shagufta feel uncomfortable and unpleasant.

Expensive Gift

Following the discomfort, she had received ten missed calls on her phone from that particular gift-giving lady. She thought it was another plan or a ploy to get close to her and refused to answer the phone. When she could bear it no longer, she responded only to be informed that a luxurious gift has been sent to her in the form of gold bangles. Shagufta never felt okay, using these expensive gifts. So, she finally told the courier to take it back. The fan never got a chance to meet Shagufta in person and after that little fiasco, she completely disappeared.

Even more absurd were the efforts made by the fan for extending this friendship. She said she wanted to see Shagufta’s children and even said that she would embrace Islam only for Shagufta. The conversion to Islam felt more like a ritual and love for Shagufta rather than the desire to embrace the religion. This entire scenario, began to take more peculiar twists and turns especially when Shagufta began to observe some change in her behaviour as a result of the over powering influence of the fan.

An Unexpected Twist

The situation became worse when Shagufta’s fan called her mother to complain on being ignored. As one can imagine the arguments did ensue and after a lot of arguing, Shagufta was able to take the call. The same fan called Shagufta on the phone and told her that I have made another friend. While Shagufta was being curious, the fan told her, it’s your sister Roohi. Shagufta was shocked to know that her sister said that the fan had been granted a visa to Muscat and had relocated there.

Watch here;

It became even more weirder and mysterious when Shagufta’s sister came to know that she had felt needles and cloth pieces under her pillow. These items gave indications that there might be use of black magic and this made the situation even worse. Shagufta also stated that she gets scared by that incident and that is something she does not like to remember.

Reflecting on the Experience

Shagufta Ejaz’s experience shows that being a public figure has its risks. While fans often express their admiration in various ways, Shagufta’s story demonstrates that sometimes these gestures can go too far and become uncomfortable. By sharing this unusual incident, she highlights the need to be cautious with fans.

Can Pakistan Still Qualify For World Test Championship Final?

pakistan-squad-for-england-series-bold-selections-or-safe-bets-can-pakistan-cricket-team-qualify-for-world-test-championship-final

Pakistan Test team is in a tough spot after suffering a shocking 2-0 series loss to Bangladesh. The defeat, especially at home, has left fans and pundits questioning the team’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.

Losing the second Test by six wickets at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium only added to the woes of Shan Masood’s side, which had already endured a 10-wicket defeat in the series opener.

The loss marked Pakistan’s first-ever Test series defeat to Bangladesh, a bitter blow to their WTC campaign. Currently sitting eighth on the WTC points table with five consecutive losses, Pakistan’s road to the WTC final looks steep. But is there still hope? Let’s break it down.

Read More: Major Reasons Behind Pakistan’s Loss Against Bangladesh

World Test Championship Position

After their recent struggles, Pakistan’s position in the World Test Championship standings is precarious, with only a 19.05 PCT%. But all is not lost yet. The team still has seven crucial Test matches left in the current WTC cycle, and if they win all of them, their PCT% can rise to 59.52.

Ahmed-Shehzad-Pakistan-Bangladesh

This would put them within striking distance of the top two teams, India and Australia, who are currently holding the leading spots with 68.52% and 62.50%, respectively.

While overtaking India and Australia might be a stretch, upcoming fixtures between the two teams could open up opportunities for Pakistan to make a comeback. If one of these sides falters, Pakistan could sneak into the top two if they manage to capitalize on their remaining games.

The Road Ahead: Pakistan Must-Win All Matches

Pakistan’s next big challenge is a three-match Test series against England at home, beginning on October 7 in Multan. After that, they will face England again in Karachi and Rawalpindi. These matches are crucial—winning them is non-negotiable if Pakistan hopes to keep their WTC final dream alive.

But that’s not all. After England, Pakistan will have two more series to play, and every Test victory will be vital. A single slip-up could end their hopes of playing in the WTC final at Lord’s in June 2025.

Monitoring the Competition

Aside from winning all their remaining matches, Pakistan must also keep a close eye on the performances of other teams. India and Australia are set to play a high-stakes five-match series, and the outcome of those games could significantly impact the points table.

If either of those teams struggles, Pakistan could find themselves with an unexpected opening. However, the reality remains harsh. If Pakistan fails to secure victories in their upcoming Tests, their chances of making the final will be severely diminished.

So far, the journey of Pakistan in the World Test Championship has been rocky, but cricket is a game of surprises. If the team can find their form and execute under pressure, a comeback is not entirely out of reach. Only time will tell if they can bounce back and prove their critics wrong.
