Elephant Madhubala Reunites With Her Family After 15 Years
FOUR PAWS, a global animal welfare organisation, successfully transported African elephant Madhubala from her substandard living conditions at Karachi Zoo to a newly designed, species-appropriate habitat at the Karachi Safari Park. After more than 15 years apart, Madhubala’s reunion with her siblings Malika and Sonia represents a huge emotional turning point in her life.
“Madhubala’s rehoming into a species-appropriate enclosure is a gigantic step for more animal welfare in Pakistan and sends a strong signal to other countries around the world where elephants are still kept in private captivity for entertainment purposes,” says FOUR PAWS CEO and President Josef Pfabigan.
Madhubala’s relocation was carefully organised to reduce her anxiety, guarantee her safety, and ensure the relocation went smoothly. Dr Frank Göritz of the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) put the elephant under sedation to relax her before she was relocated. Madhubala was then lifted into a vehicle by the relocation crew, comprising of skilled FOUR PAWS specialists. To get to the Safari Park, the convoy travelled through Karachi’s busy streets with the help of FOUR PAWS employees and police.
“The efforts of all the involved stakeholders were tremendous. Especially the close alignment with the mayor of Karachi and KMC, Murtaza Wahab, fast-tracked the developments of Madhubala’s relocation. To finally see her thriving in her new species-appropriate enclosure exceeds our expectations. It is one of the main pillars of the work of FOUR PAWS to make sure we find sustainable long-term solutions to improve the lives of as many animals as possible together with our local stakeholders and global network,” says Pfabigan.
Elephant Madhubala Reunites With Her Family After 15 Years
The health condition of the three elephants will be closely observed by the head veterinarian Dr Göritz, who has been involved in the treatment of the elephants since 2021. Furthermore, the upkeep and satisfaction of the elephants’ species-appropriate living conditions will be overseen by an independent task team in the future. To get ready for Madhubala’s move, Karachi Safari Park’s designated 5.2-acre sanctuary area underwent significant renovations.

Meta Removes Over 2 Million Accounts Involved in Pig Butchering Scams
Meta announced that it has removed 2 million accounts related to pig butchering and other scams from its platforms since the beginning of the year. The majority of these accounts come from Myanmar, Laos, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, and Cambodia, which is infamous for hosting “scam slave” operations.
“These criminal scam hubs often lure unsuspecting job seekers with too-good-to-be-true job postings on local job boards, forums and recruitment platforms to then force them to work as online scammers, often under the threat of physical abuse,” explains Meta.
The primary scam of these accounts is ‘pig butchering’, a very destructive financial investment scam based on long-term manipulation and deception. Meta has removed these accounts from its system and collaborated with law enforcement agencies in the mentioned nations to share intel and stop the scam activities at their source.

In an era where social media binds people across continents, Pakistan’s youth finds itself paradoxically adrift — digitally connected yet emotionally distant. While platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram bridge distant worlds, they increasingly sever the ties that hold families together, profoundly reshaping the country’s social fabric.
A study from the International Islamic University Islamabad reveals startling realities: 94% of the youth admitted that excessive use of social networking sites (SNS) negatively affects family relations. Nearly 71% reported feeling emotionally isolated from their families due to prolonged screen time. These statistics highlight a concerning trend-the more connected our devices make us, the more isolated we become from those closest to us.
Source: Dawn
A Shift in Priorities
Undeniably, social media pervades Pakistan. More than 30 million people are online every day and 9 million Facebook active users. The lure of quick connections often replaces the world. It was observed that 80% of respondents spent more time talking to their online friends than they spent talking to their families. Many of the dinner tables in homes have turned into battlegrounds for meaningful conversation against the addictive glow of the smartphone screen.
This change can be witnessed in entertainment behaviours as well. Although 88% of the young generation agreed they “sometimes” talk with family, only 8.6% always made it a point to do so. Contrarily, 80.6% admitted that they spent their free time browsing SNS. The outcome is a generation less emotionally attached to their families, deprived of the invaluable warmth of human touch.
The Psychological Consequences
The emotional consequences of excessive social media usage are staggering. More than 69% of young people reported increased loneliness, while 88.6% acknowledged feeling emotional disturbances related to their screen use. These numbers paint a bleak picture of a generation yearning for genuine connection but trapped in the shallowness of likes, shares, and retweets.
This growing reliance on digital media also impacts personal growth. Most respondents admitted to not being productive, distracted, and disengaged from school and other real-world affairs. Over 61% of respondents admitted to relying too much on electronic mediums; the boundary between online and offline life is still dissolving.
Pakistan’s rich traditions of familial bonding and collective celebrations are being eroded by the relentless intrusion of social media. Family gatherings, once a cornerstone of Pakistani culture, are now interrupted by buzzing notifications. Parents, often unfamiliar with their children’s digital lives, struggle to bridge the growing generational gap. In fact, over 71% of respondents admitted to being “least concerned” with family matters, a sobering testament to the erosion of traditional values.

Finding the Balance
The digital age is here to stay. However, its consequences deserve attention. Parents and teachers need to create digital literacy and encourage responsible use of technology. By setting boundaries, encouraging face-to-face communication, and nurturing hobbies off the computer, we can help the youth regain emotional balance.
Ultimately, reconnecting with family doesn’t require abandoning technology but learning to coexist with it. The power to reverse this cycle lies in realising that while the internet can connect us to the world, it is the bonds we nurture offline that truly define who we are.

The hype train for Grand Theft Auto 6 is alive and well, with fans now convinced that a second trailer will finally drop on December 3, 2024. The latest theory stems from the timing of the rumoured December update for GTA Online, which is speculated to arrive on December 10. The idea is that Rockstar Games could drop the trailer a week prior to the update to build hype and drive engagement with GTA Online.
Fan Theories Keep Rolling in
Since the release of the first GTA 6 trailer in December 2023, people have never stopped speculating when exactly Rockstar will bring more details. All over 2024, theories from the “moon theory” kept being tossed around and ultimately shot down, leaving people starving for official news. The new December 3rd theory was first introduced by Reddit users, relating the second trailer to last year’s strategy when Rockstar unveiled the first trailer before the update of GTA Online.
Source: Games Industry
Though this timing would make much sense from a marketing point of view, Rockstar has kept mum, neither confirming nor denying it. Fans are left analysing every hint and rumour in the hope of uncovering clues for the much-awaited sequel.
The Bigger Picture for Rockstar
A December 3rd trailer drop would certainly be a shrewd business play by Rockstar. The new cutscene release would get fans hyped again for GTA 6 while keeping players engaged with GTA Online until the sequel hits in Fall 2025. With the possibility of synergy between a trailer and an online update, it is a plausible theory, even if speculative.
Source: Cryptopolitan
Despite Rockstar’s confirmation of the Fall 2025 release window during a recent investor call, there is a growing concern that the company is not being transparent about the project’s status. Rumours of internal setbacks emerged early this year, but those were quickly dismissed by journalist Jason Schreier and Rockstar employees. Still, the long silence has stirred the community to speculate more.
Patience Until Fall 2025
Grand Theft Auto 6 is perhaps one of the most eagerly awaited games in history, and Rockstar’s detailed approach has only made everyone wait with bated breath. Be it or not, on December 3rd, the theory will be put to rest, and fans will undoubtedly continue to dissect every shred of potential news until the next big reveal. All eyes are now on Rockstar to see if the second trailer lives up to the hype—and if it’s worth the wait.

Meta‘s latest attempt to quiet Bluesky‘s growing buzz shows the company is closely watching its competition in this evolving social media space. With Threads reporting 35 million new sign-ups in November, Meta‘s PR machine seemsintent on casting its app as a thrivingconcern even as Bluesky‘s momentum captures attention.
The numbers tell a mixed story. Threads‘ 35 million sign-ups this month may sound impressive, but compared to its rapid growth last year, which reached 100 million sign-ups within days of launch, this figure seems less remarkable. More importantly, the gap between sign-ups and active users raises questions about the platform‘s real traction. Threads recently reported 275 million monthly active users, a clear jump from July‘s 175 million. This indicates a healthy user base, though the platform lagsfar behind X‘s 570 million active users.

Bluesky’s Rising Momentum
On the other hand, Bluesky, with 20 million active users, is bynomeans a direct threat to Threads. Still, its rapidgrowthdoesindicatethatsmaller platforms canfindniches. For Meta, even modest competition deserves attentionbecause smaller apps like Bluesky can grow quickly by attracting key influencers and communities.
In response, Meta has accelerated updates to Threads, adding new features to solidify its position. Instagram and Threads chief Adam Mosseri acknowledged the strategic rollout, admitting Meta had “pulled forward” features to stay competitive. This agility underscores Meta’s strategy of replicating competitors’ innovations to maintain dominance—a tactic it has successfully employed with apps like Snapchat and TikTok.
Still, sign-up numbers don’t fully answer user retention – the real issue. Indeed, Bluesky’s growth is great news, though its active users are tiny compared to those of. Threads, and whether it will help sustain the growth is yet uncertain. With such resources, an ecosystem like Meta is impossible to shake from the pole position easily; however, the growth of Bluesky implies a new urge for fresh decentralised platforms out of Big Tech’s monopoly.

Ultimately, success forThreadswilldepend on more than just numbers but on keeping users engaged and differentiating itself in a crowded market. For now, Meta seems more than capable of navigating this competitive landscape—but the social media world is constantly evolving, and the next big disruptor could be just around the corner.

PlayStation's Shuhei Yoshida Is Leaving Sony After 31 Years
Sony’s head of independent development at PlayStation and long-time game development leader for the console maker, Shuhei Yoshida, will leave the company after over three decades. He worked on several of the PlayStation’s early hits before leading the platform’s powerhouse first-party studios spanning many console generations.
“Yes, I have an announcement to make,” the Sony veteran said during an interview with the PlayStation Blog on Tuesday. “I’m leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15 2025… it’s like announcing the launch date of a new game, something I haven’t done for a long time.”
Early Beginnings with PlayStation
Yoshida joined Sony in 1993, as one of the first non-technical members of Ken Kutaragi’s team, tasked with marketing the PlayStation. Reflecting on those early days, Yoshida recalls his work in account management, where he communicated and engaged with publishers and developers, particularly in Japan, to encourage them to build games for the new platform.
“So that was a really fun time, but also a challenging time because not many people in the industry believed in 3D graphics technology at that time,” he added.
Yoshida’s dedication to the PlayStation platform resulted in several major promotions within Sony. In April 2000, he was appointed Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment America, and by 2007 he had advanced to Senior Vice President of SCE Worldwide Studios USA. In 2008, he was appointed President of Sony Computer Entertainment, consolidating his position as the company’s head. Throughout these years, Yoshida has played a crucial part in influencing the future of PlayStation’s hardware and software offerings over numerous platforms.

A Legacy of Innovation and Influence
Yoshida’s departure highlights the end of an era for PlayStation. He leaves behind a record of innovation, creating ties with developers, and championing both large-scale and small game initiatives. His leadership enabled PlayStation to grow into the gaming empire it is today, and his contributions have influenced the gaming experiences of millions of people across the world.
Furthermore, Yoshida said that while he’ll no longer be at Sony, he still plans to work in games in some way moving forward.

The cricketing world is holding its breath as the fate of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will be decided this Friday. The much-anticipated virtual ICC Board meeting is expected to address a deadlock that has thrown the tournament’s future into uncertainty. Will Pakistan retain hosting rights, or will the event be moved elsewhere?
Pakistan’s Hosting Dreams on the Line
For Pakistan, this isn’t just about cricket. The Champions Trophy represents a historic moment—a return to hosting an ICC event after years of absence. The PCB has poured over 13 billion PKR into upgrading stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, gearing up for the grand occasion.
But trouble started brewing when India refused to send its team, citing a lack of government clearance. Since then, the PCB has faced mounting pressure to accept a hybrid model, where some matches would be played outside Pakistan.
ICC Board Meeting: What’s at Stake?
Friday’s ICC Board meeting, featuring representatives from 17 member nations, will likely discuss two key scenarios:
Hybrid Model Proposal: If Pakistan agrees, the tournament will be co-hosted, with some matches likely held in neutral venues.
Voting for Relocation: If Pakistan declines, a vote may decide to strip the country of hosting rights altogether.
Reports suggest that financial incentives could be offered to Pakistan as a sweetener. However, PCB sources have firmly rejected this idea, maintaining that hosting the entire event in Pakistan is non-negotiable.
India’s financial influence in cricket governance adds another layer of complexity. With Jay Shah set to take over ICC’s leadership next month, India’s position is expected to grow even stronger. Broadcasters, who see India’s participation as a key revenue driver, are unlikely to support a PCB-led boycott or a “minus-India” tournament.
This financial leverage puts Pakistan in a tough spot. While the PCB is preparing for potential legal action and has already consulted lawyers in London, the road ahead is far from easy.
If the ICC board votes to relocate the Champions Trophy, Pakistan faces significant financial and reputational losses. But PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and his team have made it clear—they won’t back down without a fight.

The ICC men’s ODI bowling rankings have a new leader, and it’s none other than Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner, Rashid Khan. On Wednesday, Rashid snatched the top spot from Pakistan’s pace maestro, Shaheen Shah Afridi, in the latest rankings update.
Shaheen Afridi Takes a Backseat
Shaheen’s rise to the top earlier this year was nothing short of spectacular. His eight wickets at an average of 12.62 during Pakistan’s historic series win over Australia cemented his status as one of the best in the game.
But with Shaheen Afridi resting during the ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe, the rankings shift was inevitable. His teammate Haris Rauf, who dazzled during the Australia series and was named Player of the Series, also faced a dip, slipping two places to 15th.
Saim Ayub’s Meteoric Rise
On a brighter note for Pakistan fans, young opener Saim Ayub’s brilliant century in the second ODI against Zimbabwe earned him an 80-place leap in the batting rankings. He now sits at 90th, while the ever-consistent Babar Azam continues to dominate as the world’s top-ranked ODI batter.
Saim’s rise is a testament to the fresh talent coming through Pakistan’s ranks. His fearless approach at the crease has already won him fans, and his future looks bright.
Jasprit Bumrah Shines in Tests
While the ODI rankings saw drama, Jasprit Bumrah made headlines in the Test arena. The Indian pacer reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings after his stellar performance against Australia in Perth. Bumrah’s match figures of 8/72 powered India to a crushing 295-run win and earned him a career-high 883 rating points.
Bumrah’s consistency this year has been remarkable. This is the third time he has topped the Test rankings in 2024, showing just how vital he is to India’s success.
India’s batters also had their moments of glory. Yashasvi Jaiswal, with his incredible consistency, jumped to a career-best second position in Test batting rankings. He now trails only England’s Joe Root. Virat Kohli’s recent heroics also saw him climb nine places to 13th, proving that King Kohli still has plenty left in the tank.

The Pakistan cricket team have faced a double blow ahead of the series-deciding third ODI against Zimbabwe as fast bowlers Ahmed Daniyal and Shahnawaz Dahani have been ruled out with injuries.
Both pacers sustained injuries during a training session on Sunday. Daniyal pulled his hamstring, while Dahani twisted his left ankle. The duo underwent initial scans and assessments, but the medical team decided it was best to send them back to Lahore for rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.
This is undoubtedly a setback for Pakistan, especially with the final ODI just around the corner. Injuries are part of the game, but losing two key players at such a crucial moment stings.
Who Are The Replacements?
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called up Abbas Afridi and Jahandad Khan as replacements. Both players were already part of the T20I squad, which kicks off in Bulawayo next month. Their arrival is timely, as Pakistan gears up for the all-important clash on Thursday.
Additionally, Aamir Jamal, who has featured in both ODIs, has been named as Daniyal’s replacement for the T20I series. With fresh faces in the mix, Pakistan will hope the new recruits can rise to the occasion.
The three-match ODI series has been anything but predictable. Zimbabwe drew first blood in the opener, claiming an 80-run victory in a rain-hit game. But Pakistan roared back in the second ODI, chasing down 146 runs with ease.
Saim Ayub was the star of the show, smashing a brilliant 113 to lead his team to victory. The young batter’s century not only levelled the series but also silenced critics questioning Pakistan’s batting depth.
Now, with the series tied at 1-1, everything hinges on Thursday’s decider. Both teams have everything to play for, and fans can expect an intense battle at the same venue in Bulawayo.

Pakistan is the land of opportunities. With the right mindset and good investments, highly profitable business ideas can take place in Pakistan. The youth of Pakistan is certainly very passionate about having a business mindset rather than a job mindset. Many youngsters are opening up small-scale businesses in Pakistan which we all are aware of through social media platforms.
If the ideas flourish with big investments, skilled people, equipment, and the right location they can be open up on big scales as well. Let’s talk about some unique and profitable business ideas in Pakistan that have the capability to grow in future. These business ideas can help the economy of Pakistan grow in many ways.
Five Unique Business Ideas in Pakistan
Here are unique and innovative eight business ideas that have not become very popular in Pakistan but have the potential to grow and generate profits. Each idea stands apart from the existing ventures and has the potential to create a niche market.
1. Electric Vehicle Charging Station:
We all are aware of the fact that the vehicle market is shifting more towards electric vehicles. This trend is becoming very common across the globe. Soon it will take over Pakistan as well. There are already a few electric cars that have been launched in Pakistan like; Audi e-tron, MG 4, ORA 03, etc. One thing is clear opening up an Electric Charging Vehicle station is going to be a great idea.

AirPods are one of the most convenient gadgets to enhance work efficiency or just listen to music on the go. While they are supposed to work seamlessly with your iOS devices, a few issues can result in glitches now and then. While getting a new pair might be tempting, looking out for troubleshooting tips and tricks should be prioritised.
So if your AirPods keep disconnecting, here are a few things you can do to make your AirPods work again.
1. Disconnect & Reconnect
If your AirPods are lagging and you are facing connection issues, one thing you can do is disconnect and reconnect them with your iOS devices. Just put your AirPods or AirPods Max in the Charging Case or Smart Case, wait for a few seconds, and then take them out again to reconnect them. You can also switch Bluetooth off on your phone, wait 15 seconds and turn it back on. You’ll hopefully hear a chime in your Airpods, notifying you they are connected.
2. Clean The Airpods
In certain instances, the dirt, earwax, or moisture buildup in the AirPods can also cause Bluetooth distortion leading to connectivity issues. The only way to solve the problem is to clean the AirPods with alcohol and a cotton swab. Dip the cotton bud in alcohol and rub it onto the earpiece. Use the cotton swab to get into all of the crevices of the devices. The loose debris can be removed with a clean cloth. Once the debris is removed the process is to clear our leftover debris.
3. Reset Airpods
A range of issues including random disconnections, and lack of prompt charging can start to develop over time. One way to kick-start your AirPods is to reset them. Open Settings> AirPods, scroll down to the bottom of the menu and tap Disconnect. From here, close the case, wait 15 seconds, and then re-open it to connect again. Resetting the AirPods can remove any paired device history. This will effectively reset them back to factory settings so that your device is the first to pair with them.
Installing updates has been the way to solve problems in the AirPods ever since their launch. If your AirPods have a software-related problem, updating the version can help. Open Settings and go to Software Update. If an update is available, install it. The AirPods automatically update when they’re charging and near your iPhone.
5. Disable Automatic Ear Detection
Automatic Ear Detection is a feature that automatically detects when your AirPods are in your ears. However, it can also cause the audio to disconnect, especially if you tend to fidget with the left or the right AirPod while wearing them. If your AirPods don’t stay connected to your iPhone, turning off Automatic Ear Detection can help.
Wireless interference can also prevent your AirPods from working correctly. Identifying and eliminating common sources of interference around you—such as poorly shielded power cables, microwave ovens, and wireless speakers can solve the problem.
7. Unpair other Bluetooth Devices
Another issue is having potential interference and conflicts with other Bluetooth devices you might have connected, such as your Apple Watch Series 8. If that is the case, disconnect and reconnect them. Open the Watch app, tap All Watches in the top left, hit the i next to the watch you want to disconnect and then select Unpair Apple Watch.
8. Turn off Your Phone’s Wi-Fi
Although Apple doesn’t publicly acknowledge this bug it does seem that having Wi-Fi can interfere with your AirPods’ connectivity. Simply turn off the Wi-Fi and try connecting them again.

Javeria Saud has indeed captured the hearts of the viewers with her impeccable acting in Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain. Season one was already a hit and the drama has really become even more high altitude by the success of Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain. This season too, as in the previous one, Azra, played by Javeria, has rendered scintillating performances.
Emotional Moment in the Latest Episode
The most recent episode got really tragic with Javeria’s portrayal of Azra. Azra is seen struggling with husband Jamal’s sudden emotional shift. Things take a tragic turn after a heartfelt apology from Jamal, who later prays for forgiveness.
Azra receives a call informing her that Jamal has fallen unconscious, and soon after that, she learns that he has passed away. Javeria was an example of being talented, especially when reacting emotionally to this news. Her ability to deliver such a raw and vulnerable performance at such a dramatic moment left many people crying during this scene.
Fans Praise Javeria’s Outstanding Performance
Viewers haven’t delayed in throwing praises on Javeria for her brilliant acting. Fans mentioned that the scene, where Azra mourns after Jamal, felt quite realistic, considering her husband Saud played the role of Jamal.

The Fear of Missing Out, or FOMO, is a fairly new phenomenon introduced to the world. It is gradually increasing amongst women, particularly those from the Gen Z age group. According to independent researcher Kashif Hafeez from Pulse Consultancy, women experiencing FOMO has increased significantly over recent years. The percentage rose sharply from 2% in 2018 to 26% in 2023. This surge seems to be directly linked to continuous social media use. On these platforms, unattainable lifestyles, perfect lives and missed opportunities are highlighted constantly.
These factors contribute to the growing prevalence of FOMO among women. This raises questions about its impact on mental health and social behaviour. As a result, this has become a pressing issue for psychologists and researchers. FOMO refers to anxiety and unease people feel when they believe others are being rewarded experiences without them there to experience it too. This stems from the basic human tendency to compare what they have. In this case, they idealise the moments of others. While this feeling is not fairly new, it is more prevalent in Gen Z because they are immersed in digital platforms.
Why There Is A Surge of FOMO Among Pakistani Women
The rise of FOMO, particularly in Gen Z women, is linked to several factors. Gen Z, born between 1997 and 2012, is the first generation to grow up with social media influence. Young women are constantly exposed to fake depictions of people’s lives on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. Since social media personalities exaggeratedly present their daily life, others feel insecure about their own. They feel as though theirs is boring.
Gen Z women are more likely to internalise social comparison. As a result of growing up around the internet, they often measure their self-worth in likes and comments. This happens in all areas of life, such as fashion, friendships, and/or achievements. Their desire to keep up and remain relevant creates anxiety. This turns into FOMO. This makes it difficult to differentiate between genuine connections and the pressure to be socially relevant.
Social media plays an integral role in the growth of FOMO. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook make room for a lot of competition and comparison. Influencers and celebrities post highlight reels of their lives, showing fancy versions of success, beauty, and happiness. Most of which is fake, edited, or exaggerated. This can be harmful for young women who believe that it is real. These images can create unrealistic standards and a constant need to match up.
All social media users often feel compelled to stay connected and aware of every trend. If someone posts about an event, trip, or achievement, it can trigger the feeling of being left behind. Or it can make one feel as though they don’t have enough, leading to a constant sense of ungratefulness. This further deteriorates individuals’ mental health. The feeling of FOMO is worsened by our habit of constantly scrolling. When scrolling, users are exposed to hundreds of images and updates daily, making it easy to feel overwhelmed.
FOMO’s Global Impact: From the West to Pakistan
While FOMO has roots in Western culture, it has spread globally, reaching countries like Pakistan. As internet access and smartphone use have increased in Pakistan, younger generations are becoming more involved in social media platforms. Western trends, pop culture, and online communities have led to young Pakistani women following in their footsteps.
In Pakistan, FOMO looks a bit different than in Western countries. Young women often find themselves choosing between traditional family expectations and fitting in with the global standards. They want to keep up with the lifestyles they see online, but at the same time, they’re held back because of the pressures that exist within society. These constant decisions can make them feel like they’re missing out or not measuring up, leading to a sense of isolation and insecurity.
The effects of FOMO can be quite disastrous for your health. A constant state of anxiety can lead to depression and low self-esteem. The constant fear of being left behind can lead to mental exhaustion and burnout for women. It is distracting and can affect attention spans negatively.
According to research from Pulse Consultancy, FOMO in young women has increased drastically over the past few years. In 2018, only 2% of women reported experiencing FOMO regularly. By 2023, this figure jumped to 26%, with an even higher prevalence in women under 25. This increase corresponds with the increasing use of digital communication and the impact of influencer culture, where women feel pressure to follow trends, lifestyles, and behaviours showcased online.
An increasingly interconnected world has made FOMO rise significantly, especially among Gen Z women. Though its impact is global, it affects places such as Pakistan differently. Here, women feel a more unique challenge than just FOMO. They face the struggle to balance completely different expectations. To reduce its effects, it is important to remember that sense of self-worth should not rely on comparison.

Asma Abbas opened up about surviving cancer and all the fears that came with her diagnosis during her candid talk.

A Mother’s Fear for Her Daughter
As their conversation deepened, Zara asked her mother about a time she had been crying and worried. Asma recalled a recent incident when Zara went out with friends and failed to return on time. Punjab’s School Education Department has announced a 20-day winter vacation for all public and private schools across the province, starting December 20, 2024, and ending January 10, 2025. The decision comes as Lahore grapples with persistent smog, which has significantly impacted daily life and public health.
Smog-Driven Policy Changes
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has taken a proactive stance to address smog-related challenges, issuing directives aimed at reducing pollution caused by school traffic. Justice Shahid Karim, in a three-page written order, mandated that schools provide pick-and-drop services for students after the winter break. Schools failing to comply with this directive will face strict penalties, including possible sealing.
Source: The Truth International
The court also prohibited schools from issuing disclaimers to shift transportation responsibility onto parents. This move ensures accountability and promotes the use of shared transportation to curb vehicle emissions, a major contributor to smog.
The Punjab government informed the LHC of its ongoing efforts to combat smog, which include cracking down on stubble burning—a key factor in worsening air quality. Authorities have arrested several individuals involved in illegal burning practices and are working to maintain a comprehensive database of public and private transport vehicles for better monitoring.
Additionally, construction work, which had been halted in several districts due to heightened smog levels, has been partially resumed in Lahore and three other areas following a decline in pollution peaks.
The 20-day school closure aligns with the government’s broader strategy to mitigate smog impacts while accommodating the seasonal demand for winter vacations. By reducing school traffic during the break and implementing mandatory shared transport afterwards, the government aims to lower vehicle emissions in urban areas, especially Lahore, where air quality has been severely compromised.

Challenges Ahead
While these measures reflect a serious attempt to address smog, challenges remain. Effective enforcement of transport rules and the cooperation of schools and parents will be critical. Moreover, addressing root causes such as industrial emissions, unregulated construction, and waste burning requires sustained efforts beyond temporary restrictions.
As Punjab braces for the winter break, the government’s combined focus on health, education, and environmental policy highlights the urgency of tackling one of the region’s most pressing crises. Whether these efforts will lead to lasting improvements in air quality remains to be seen.

Sony is reportedly developing a standalone portable console capable of playing PlayStation 5 games, according to a recent Bloomberg report. Unlike its current PlayStation Portal, which requires a constant internet connection to stream games, this new device is expected to function as a fully portable PS5, offering offline gaming on the go.
Expanding Sony’s Portable Legacy
Sony’s rumoured console could mark the company’s return to standalone handheld gaming, a space it last occupied with the PlayStation Vita in 2011. While the Vita earned a dedicated fan base, it struggled to compete with Nintendo’s dominant handheld devices. Now, with the success of the Nintendo Switch, Sony appears ready to reenter the market with a more advanced and versatile portable console.
Source: MSN
Currently, Sony offers the $200 PlayStation Portal, which allows users to stream PS5 games over the internet. However, it cannot operate independently of a network, a key feature that has made the Nintendo Switch so popular. This rumoured handheld aims to bridge that gap, enabling gamers to take their favourite PS5 titles wherever they go.
Sony isn’t the only major player exploring handheld consoles. Microsoft is reportedly developing its own portable Xbox console, despite its limited history in the handheld market. Meanwhile, Nintendo is gearing up for the anticipated release of the Switch 2, rumoured to feature enhanced graphics and backward compatibility with existing Switch games.
The renewed interest in portable gaming reflects a broader shift in consumer habits. Gamers increasingly value flexibility and convenience, pushing major companies to innovate and expand their offerings beyond traditional home consoles.
Source: Verge
Challenges and Prospects
While the new device could attract PlayStation fans eager for portable gaming, Sony faces significant challenges. It must deliver high-quality graphics, battery efficiency, and a competitive price to succeed in an increasingly crowded market. Additionally, the competition from Nintendo, with its stronghold on family-friendly and portable gaming, presents a formidable hurdle.
As development remains in the early stages, there’s no timeline for a release or official confirmation from Sony. However, if the company successfully brings a standalone portable PS5 to market, it could redefine its place in the gaming industry and offer gamers a compelling alternative to the Nintendo Switch.
