When it comes to traffic, the number one priority for the state should be the safety of the citizen. It is important to note that a lot of work has been done recently towards a safer driving experience for the people of Pakistan. The Motorway has certainly seen its fair share of upgrades and now the Punjab City Safe authority has brought about a new change. In recent news, Punjab Safe City Authority has implemented cutting-edge AI software targeting motorcyclists without helmets, enhancing road safety measures.

Not only does this enhance road safety features for everyone else, it also makes the driver feel safer and more responsible for their actions on the road. Some of the worst known automotive disasters of the country have happened on these roads, especially the most recent one involving a case of underage driving.

Punjab And New Cameras

Other than just the cameras installed, the Interim government in Punjab has also raised fines for helmet-less riders from Rs.200/- to Rs.2,000/- province-wide to curb violations effectively. This huge jump to such a hefty amount is sure to make motorcyclists think twice before going out to drive without a helmet.

Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar has urged intensified enforcement of traffic rules in the provincial capital, signaling a proactive approach towards safety. A Traffic police spokesperson reported over 16,000 fines issued to helmet-less motorcyclists, 264 penalties for underage driving, and 1,635 vehicles seized for emitting smoke during recent crackdown efforts. Here, we are curbing yet another environmental concern that is high-emission from vehicles that have not been subjected to regular maintenance.

A Good Initiative In Place

Recent initiatives include the launch of an online driving test service in Lahore, indicating a shift towards digitization in traffic management. This, coupled with AI-powered traffic cams that have detection features, and strict fines on various laws, are sure to push us in the right direction. Half the obstacles that people come across in Pakistan can be solved simply with regulating the traffic conditions with more efficiency.

Was Babar Azam Forced To Play Final T20I Against New Zealand?

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam and the team management were criticized during the T20I series against New Zealand for playing almost full-strength team in all matches, rather than trying bench strength.

However, according to reports Babar did not want to feature in the last match of the series, owing to a groin injury. He was forced to take the field by the management.

Why did management forced Babar Azam?

Pakistan found themselves trailing 4-0 in the series, facing the looming threat of a clean sweep. With Babar Azam nursing a groin injury and uncertain about his participation, the team management faced a setback to their plans of avoiding a clean sweep.

The management urged him to play despite physical discomfort as he was their leading run-scorer in the series with 213 runs including 3 fifties. He played a slow innings of 13 runs off 24 balls after few lifelines by New Zealand fielders.

Later, the star batter remained out of the field for the most part of Pakistan’s bowling. Pakistan managed to secure a resounding victory, thwarting the threat of a 5-0 defeat, courtesy of their spinners’ tremendous efforts.

Insiders reveal that while Babar’s injury wasn’t severe, he contemplated resting, considering that the match was a dead rubber for Pakistan and the opportunity it presented for a young player to play in the top-order.

Common Items You Use That Are Dirtier Than A Toilet Seat

Source: Men's Health

Germs are like invisible invaders that can make a home in unexpected places, and some of them are far dirtier than the average toilet seat. You may have already encountered these germ hotspots today, and it’s time to take action. In the age of the coronavirus pandemic, maintaining a clean and healthy home is more crucial than ever.

According to Mary Gagliardi, a cleaning expert and senior scientist at Clorox, the first line of defense is proper handwashing. However, have you ever considered what happens after you wash your hands? Surprisingly, one of the culprits might be hanging right next to your sink – your hand towel. Gagliardi suggests swapping frequently used towels for clean ones daily and washing them with a disinfectant like bleach.

Moving beyond hand towels, let’s explore some other surprising germ hideouts in your home:

The Cutting Board

Your average cutting board can host 200 times more fecal bacteria than a toilet seat, thanks to raw meat. To combat this, plastic cutting boards are easier to sterilize, and cleaning can be done through the sanitize cycle in your dishwasher or a solution of bleach and water.

The 6 Best Cutting Boards

Your Pet’s Food Bowl

Believe it or not, your furry friend’s kibble dish might be one of the dirtiest surfaces in your home. To keep your pets healthy, wash their food bowls after every meal with hot water and soap.

Clean Laundry

Even your freshly laundered clothes may carry a load of bacteria. Underwear, in particular, can transfer at least 100 million E. coli bacteria to the washing machine. The CDC recommends regular disinfection of your washing machine and hampers to prevent bacterial contamination.

5 Laundry Products Everyone Should Have

Smartphone or Tablet

Your trusty electronic devices, like your phone or tablet, can be ten times dirtier than a toilet seat. Make it a habit to clean your screens with screen wipes or a damp cloth regularly.

Your Carpet

Did you know that about 200,000 bacteria live in each square inch of your carpet? Regular vacuuming may not be enough. Consider hiring professionals for deep steam-cleaning at least once a year and use machine-washable area rugs that you can sanitize regularly.

In the battle against germs, knowledge is power. By identifying these unexpected breeding grounds and adopting proper cleaning practices, you can create a healthier and safer environment for you and your family. So, next time you reach for that hand towel or chop some veggies, remember that keeping your home germ-free is a step towards a healthier and stress-free life.

WhatsApp Considering Letting Users Directly Message Other Apps

WhatsApp and new features available soon

One of the best features about any application is its ability to communicate with other platforms. However, not every application is able to integrate such a feature. There can be privacy issues, security issues as well as compatibility issues. When the application called ‘Signal’ came out, it had a unique ability to it. The user was able to communicate with other applications despite being on the same app. Now it seems that WhatsApp is coming up with such a feature too!

WhatsApp is enhancing its interoperability, enabling users to message individuals across different platforms like Signal, as per WABetaInfo’s findings on a recent iOS beta. Allowing WhatsApp users to message people on other platforms opens up a whole new area of operation for the application. The specific number and types of platforms compatible with WhatsApp remain undisclosed, although Signal is cited as an example.

WhatsApp Increasing Functionality

A new section in the Chats tab will be dedicated to third-party conversations, with users having manual control over this feature and the ability to toggle it on or off. Text messages exchanged with third-party platforms will be end-to-end encrypted, ensuring maximum privacy for users. This eliminates the security and privacy concern that a lot of people feel worried about, since WhatsApp’s current encryption is quite reliable.

Access to the WhatsApp beta on iOS is currently unavailable due to full enrollment in the TestFlight program. However, Android users can participate in the Google Play Beta Program for potential access. This means that if you are an android user, you can be a part of the new changing landscape of the application. The room for innovation and application for this new feature is quite wide and huge, and we anticipate what else is in store!

Messaging Other Applications

The increased interoperability is speculated to be influenced by the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, aiming to diminish the dominance of major tech firms and promote communication across platforms, with enforcement beginning on March 6.

Apple Tightens Grip on Third-Party Downloads

Source: Zenger news

Apple is gearing up for significant changes that will reshape how users interact with the App Store and iOS in Europe. These updates, slated to roll out in March, aim to comply with the new regulations while also addressing concerns about user privacy and security.

The App Store Evolution

One of the most notable changes is the shift towards allowing users in the EU to download apps and make purchases from sources outside the traditional App Store. Apple, traditionally resistant to such alterations due to potential security risks, is now embracing this change. Phil Schiller of Apple highlighted that these changes are about complying with the Digital Markets Act while also mitigating the potential risks to user privacy and security.

Apple to let developers promote purchases outside the app store
Source: AP News

Developers stand to benefit the most from these alterations. They will now have the freedom to take payments and distribute apps from outside the App Store, marking a significant departure from Apple’s previous strict control. The new “Notarization” review process will still be enforced for non-App Store apps, focusing on platform integrity and user protection against malware.

Commission Restructuring

Apple is also overhauling its commission structure. Developers will pay a reduced 17 percent on subscriptions and in-app purchases, further decreasing to 10 percent for most developers after the first year. However, a new 3 percent “payment processing” fee and a flat €0.50 “core technology fee” for all app downloads after the first 1 million installations are introduced. Apple contends that these changes will result in most developers paying the company less than they currently do.

Beyond the App Store, Apple is introducing new APIs that allow app makers access to the iPhone’s NFC chip for wireless payments, opening the door to tap-to-pay transactions independent of Apple Pay.

Source: MacWorld

Innovations and Improvements

Additionally, Safari, Apple’s web browser, is undergoing changes. European iOS users will now be immediately prompted to choose their default browser after the iOS 17.4 update. Browser developers can also use engines other than Apple’s WebKit, potentially leading to faster and better-performing alternatives like Chrome and Firefox.

As Apple navigates these transformative changes, users and developers in Europe can anticipate a shift in the digital landscape, creating new opportunities and challenges alike. The EU’s Digital Markets Act has set the stage for a more open and competitive app ecosystem, and Apple is adapting to meet these evolving demands.

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has faced allegations of match-fixing during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) over the termination of his contract. However, his franchise team Fortune Barishal has refuted the allegations, calling them baseless, followed by his own post on social media to address the situation.

The 41-year-old found himself embroiled in controversy this morning when Bangladesh media reported that his contract with Fortune Barishal was reportedly terminated over suspicions of match-fixing.

During a game against Khulna Riders, Malik’s bowling performance raised eyebrows as he delivered three consecutive no-balls, igniting suspicions of foul play. Additionally, his lackluster batting performance, scoring just five runs off six balls, further fueled speculation.

Shoaib Malik also left the BPL midway citing personal reasons, adding another layer of intrigue to the unfolding drama, which was blown out of proportion by Bangladeshi media.

Barishal Fortune’s media manager, Sikander, has vehemently refuted allegations of match-fixing on Shoaib Malik. He stated that Malik left the BPL due to personal reasons and was willing to come back on February 6, however, the BPL management rejected his request, which led to the termination of his contract.

Shoaib Malik also took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to clarify and debunk the allegations. “I would like to address and dismiss the recent rumors circulating about my playing position with Fortune Barishal,” he posted.

Hafeez Blames Players’ Focus on Franchise Leagues for Recent Defeats

hafeez-criticizes-pcb-for-foreign-coaches

Mohammad Hafeez was appointed Pakistan’s Team Director after the ICC World Cup 2023 debacle and has been facing criticism since then. However, he decided to bring the truth in front of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and fans.

After his return from New Zealand, Mohammad Hafeez has stirred another controversy by attributing recent defeats in Australia Tests and New Zealand T20Is to player shortcomings, as reported by local media.

‘Players were focused on franchise leagues’

In a meeting with Acting PCB Chairman Shah Khawar, accompanied by PCB’s COO Salman Naseem, Hafeez reportedly expressed disappointment in the team’s performance, highlighting a perceived lack of focus among players.

As previously reported, Mohammad Hafeez’s stringent approach caused discontent among the players during the New Zealand tour.

The discontent was caused due to the long team meetings led by Mohammad Hafeez, which became a point of contention.

Beyond the management issues, senior players were also at loggerheads with Hafeez over the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for BPL and ILT20, which they got later.

However, Hafeez claimed during the meeting with the acting PCB chairman that players seemed to prioritize participation in ongoing franchise T20 leagues over their commitment to the national team’s cause.

This diversion of attention, Hafeez suggested, compromised the team’s performances and contributed to their recent losses.

Will Mohammad Hafeez get an extension?

The meeting also covered the extension of Mohammad Hafeez’s expiring one-month contract, which is currently pending approval.

The PCB, awaiting direction from the Inter-Provincial Ministry, anticipates an official statement regarding the extension shortly.

However, a significant update is the Ministry’s current instruction, which prohibits the board from issuing long-term contracts.
