Leena Ghani Takes Maria B to Task Over Alleged Design Plagiarism

leena exposes maria b

Pakistani fashion designer Maria B recently launched a new collection dedicated to Palestine, drawing praise and criticism. While some people appreciated her effort to use her platform for good, others accused her of exploiting the Palestinian cause for personal gain. Artist and activist Leena Ghani took to Instagram to criticize Maria B, pointing out that the designer was charging nearly Rs. 10,000 for outfits that were a clear copy of illustrations from the Palestine Quebec’s page.

The collection features designs inspired by the Palestinian keffiyeh and in the colors of the Palestinian flag. According to Maria B, the collection aims to raise awareness and support. Maria announced that all proceeds would go to Palestine. But has failed to mention how.

She also demanded transparency in Maria’s charity work. Leena publically urged her to tag the charities she supports, as many other brands do.

Media Reacts Leena Ghani’s Accusations At Maria B

Social media users had mixed reactions. Some praised Maria B for standing up for Palestine, with one follower writing, “She is the only designer who is speaking out for Palestine.” Many saw the collection as a bold statement from a prominent South Asian Muslim designer. Others, however, felt that the designer was using Palestine’s struggles as a marketing opportunity, with one critic stating, “Her horrible clothes aren’t going to Free Palestine. She needs to be transparent about which charity she will be sending the proceeds to.”

Despite these controversies, and Leena Ghani’s accusations, Maria B has retained support from her followers. This matter, however, highlights the ongoing parallel between activism and commercialism. Moreover, there is no way to define either.

Toyota Hybrid vs. Honda Hybrid – Which Offers Better Value?

Source: Medio 1

When it comes to choosing between Honda and Toyota hybrids, both automakers have earned a reputation for producing reliable, fuel-efficient, and environmentally friendly vehicles. But when it comes down to which brand makes the better hybrid, the answer is more nuanced than a simple comparison.

Honda Hybrids: Performance with a Punch

Honda’s hybrid lineup includes the Accord Hybrid, Insight, and CR-V Hybrid, each offering a unique blend of performance and efficiency. The Accord Hybrid, for example, is a midsize sedan that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, producing a robust 212 horsepower. This model is particularly praised for its smooth ride, responsive handling, and impressive fuel economy, achieving up to 48 mpg both in the city and on the highway.

The Honda Insight, a compact sedan, stands out with its sleek design and fuel efficiency. It features a 1.5-liter engine paired with an electric motor, offering a combined 151 horsepower. The Insight is a top performer in urban environments, where it can achieve up to 55 mpg.

The CR-V Hybrid, Honda’s compact SUV, is perfect for those needing more space without sacrificing fuel efficiency. It delivers a comfortable ride with a combined 212 horsepower and can achieve up to 40 mpg in city driving.

Toyota Hybrids: The Legacy of Efficiency

Toyota’s hybrid lineup is extensive, with models like the Prius, Aqua, and RAV4 Hybrid being particularly popular in markets like Pakistan. The Prius is perhaps the most iconic hybrid vehicle, known for its futuristic design and unparalleled fuel efficiency, with an estimated 54 mpg in the city. It offers a combined 121 horsepower, making it ideal for those prioritizing efficiency over performance.

The Toyota Aqua, a compact hybrid hatchback, has gained significant popularity in Pakistan for its affordability, practicality, and impressive fuel economy. The Aqua is powered by a 1.5-liter engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 99 horsepower. Despite its smaller engine, the Aqua delivers excellent fuel efficiency, achieving up to 37 km/l (approximately 87 mpg) in city driving, making it a top choice for urban commuters in Pakistan.

For those seeking a bit more space, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid offers a balance of power and efficiency, with a combined 196 horsepower and up to 37 mpg in city driving. The Corolla Cross Hybrid is a great option for those who need an SUV’s practicality with a compact footprint, making it ideal for urban driving without compromising on fuel efficiency.

Price and Affordability

When it comes to affordability, both brands offer competitive pricing. The Honda CR-V starts at Rs 1,070,000, making it the more expensive option among the two automakers. Toyota’s Prius is far ahead, starting at 1,850,0000. The pricing for their midsize hybrids, like the Toyota Aqua, is nearly identical to other small local manufactured cars, starting from Rs 4,500,000

Which is Better?

Deciding between a Honda or Toyota hybrid ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you’re looking for a hybrid that offers a bit more performance and a dynamic driving experience, Honda’s hybrids, like the Insight, might be the better choice. However, if fuel efficiency and a broader range of options are your priorities, Toyota’s lineup offers more diversity with models like the Prius and Aqua Hybrid.

Both brands excel in delivering quality hybrid vehicles, so it’s worth test-driving a few models to see which one aligns best with your driving style and needs.

With the country set to host the ICC Champions Trophy in February-March 2025, this revelation comes at a crucial time, highlighting the urgent need for upgrades.

Racing Against the Clock

Naqvi’s remarks came during a visit to Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium, where major renovation work is already underway. The PCB has also begun similar efforts at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, recognizing the importance of having world-class venues for the upcoming global event.

Shahid Afridi Breaks Silence On Joining Politics: What’s The Truth?

shahid-afridi-breaks-silence-on-joining-politics

Shahid Khan Afridi, one of Pakistan’s most iconic cricketers, recently addressed the burning question on everyone’s mind—does he plan to join politics?

The former captain and all-rounder, who has made headlines both on and off the field, set the record straight during a candid conversation on a TV show hosted by Ushna Shah.

A Shift in Focus

Afridi, known for his explosive batting and charismatic personality, revealed that he had indeed considered entering the political arena. He even had a political party in mind. However, after some serious thought in 2021, he decided against it.

Instead of diving into the often murky waters of Pakistani politics, Afridi chose to dedicate his time and energy to philanthropy. His reason? A disillusionment with the political landscape in Pakistan.

shahid-afridi-unhappy-babar-azam-shaheen-afridi

According to Afridi, the current political scene is marred by infighting and a lack of productivity. “People in power here do not work and only keep fighting,” he said, explaining why he opted out of a political career.

A National Hero’s Journey

Afridi’s decision might come as a surprise to some, considering his status as a national hero. Ever since his debut at the age of 17, Afridi has been a household name in Pakistan.

With a career that spanned all formats of cricket, he became one of the most beloved figures in the sport. Even after retiring from international cricket, Afridi continued to shine in various leagues, proving that his star power was far from fading.

Now, Afridi is focusing on giving back to the community through his philanthropic efforts. His foundation, the Shahid Afridi Foundation, is dedicated to various social causes, including healthcare and education.

i-never-wanted-shaheen-to-become-captain-says-shahid-afridi

It’s clear that Afridi is committed to making a difference off the field, even if it means staying away from the political spotlight.

The Shaheen Afridi Connection

It’s also worth noting that Afridi’s influence extends beyond his own career. As the father-in-law of Pakistan’s star pacer, Shaheen Afridi, Shahid’s name often pops up in discussions about team dynamics.

Read More: Shaheen Afridi Accused Of Lobbying, Misbehaving By Gary Kirsten

Some fans have even speculated that Shahid Afridi was behind Shaheen’s involvement in alleged infighting during the T20 World Cup. However, these rumors remain just that—rumors.

A Different Path

Afridi’s decision to stay out of politics is a stark contrast to another cricket legend, Imran Khan. The 1992 World Cup-winning captain not only entered politics but also founded his own party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

shahid-afridi-breaks-silence-on-joining-politics

Khan went on to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan after a historic win in the 2018 general elections. But for Afridi, the allure of politics doesn’t compare to the satisfaction of philanthropy.

As he continues to make a difference through his foundation, it’s clear that Afridi has found his calling—one that doesn’t involve the chaos of politics but is just as impactful.

Pakistan Opts For All-Pace Attack In First Test Against Bangladesh

pakistan-all-pace-attack-in-first-test-against-bangladesh

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the playing XI for the first Test against Bangladesh, set to kick off on August 21 in Rawalpindi. The big news? Pakistan is going all-in with an all-pace attack—a move that hasn’t been seen at home in nearly three decades.

Shan Masood’s First Home Test as Captain

Shan Masood will lead Pakistan for the first time in a home Test, and he’s making his intentions clear with a pace-heavy strategy.

The four-pronged pace attack will feature the ever-reliable Shaheen Shah Afridi, the fiery Naseem Shah, the up-and-coming Khurram Shehzad, and the experienced Mohammad Ali.

It’s a bold move, especially on home soil, where spin has often played a crucial role. But Rawalpindi’s conditions seem to favor this gamble. Notably, this is only the second time in 28 years that Pakistan has fielded an all-pace attack in a home Test.

wasim-akram-questions-shaheen-afridi

The last time this happened was in 2019, also at Rawalpindi, against Sri Lanka. Clearly, the team management believes that the conditions in Rawalpindi will offer enough assistance to their fast bowlers to justify this rare approach.

Batting Lineup: A Mix of Youth and Experience

On the batting front, Pakistan will open with the promising duo of Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub. Abdullah has cemented his pace already, while Saim has shown glimpses of brilliance in his brief international career.

The middle order is where Pakistan’s strength lies, anchored by skipper Shan Masood and star batter Babar Azam. Newly-appointed vice-captain Saud Shakeel, who has been in good form, adds further depth to the lineup.

Mohammad Rizwan, who will don the gloves, and Salman Ali Agha round out a well-balanced batting order.

Venue Change for the Second Test

While the first Test will take place in Rawalpindi, the second match of the series was originally scheduled to be held at Karachi’s National Stadium. However, due to ongoing renovation work at the venue in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the match has been moved to Rawalpindi as well.

As the series gets underway, all eyes will be on how Pakistan’s pace attack performs on a surface traditionally known to assist fast bowlers.

With the WTC points on the line, both teams will be eager to make a strong start. For Pakistan, this Test series is an opportunity to build momentum and test their young talents in the longest format.

Why You Should Delay Your iPhone Upgrade Right Now

Source: CNET

With the iPhone 16 just around the corner, now is the worst time to upgrade your iPhone. Apple’s newest models are typically released in mid-September, and the launch of the iPhone 16 is expected to follow this pattern. If you’re considering an upgrade, it might be wise to wait a little longer. Here’s why holding off can save you money and prevent buyer’s remorse.

New Model on the Horizon

The iPhone 16 is rumored to bring significant upgrades, including new features like enhanced camera systems, larger screens, and possibly a redesigned interface. Apple tends to introduce these kinds of innovations with each new model, making last-minute purchases of the current generation less appealing. Even if you’re not someone who needs the latest technology, the improvements in the new model might be substantial enough to make the wait worthwhile.

iOS 18 makes iPhone more personal, capable, and intelligent than ever - Apple
Source: Apple

Price Drops for Older Models

When Apple launches a new iPhone, they usually reduce the prices of older models. For example, when the iPhone 15 was released, the iPhone 14’s price dropped by $100, making it a more affordable option for those who didn’t need the absolute latest features. By waiting until the iPhone 16 is out, you can either opt for the new model or save some money by purchasing the previous generation at a reduced price.

Avoiding the “Worst Time” to Buy

The period from late July through early September is widely regarded as the worst time to buy an iPhone. During this time, Apple is preparing to launch new devices, which means any iPhone you purchase now could feel outdated within weeks. The newer model will likely have improved battery life, faster processing, and new features—all at roughly the same price point.

Apple iOS 18 helps you squeeze more battery life out of your iPhone | Mashable
Source: Mashable

Potential for Post-Launch Issues

Even if you’re set on buying the new iPhone 16, it might still be wise to wait a few weeks after its release. Early adopters often encounter bugs or hardware issues that aren’t apparent until the phone has been in the market for some time. Last year, for example, the iPhone 15 Pro experienced overheating issues shortly after launch. By waiting, you can avoid these early problems and ensure you’re getting a device that’s both reliable and up-to-date.

Trade-In and Return Policies

If you’re worried about missing out on a deal, keep in mind that Apple allows returns within 14 days of purchase and will refund the difference if the price drops within that period. However, this only applies if you bought the device within 14 days before the price change. Therefore, timing your purchase around the new release can give you the best of both worlds: a potential price drop and the ability to return the device if you change your mind.

In conclusion, waiting just a little longer for the iPhone 16 can offer better technology, potential savings, and peace of mind. So, resist the urge to upgrade now and look forward to what’s coming in September.

”Are You For Real? Itni Giri hui?” – Hira Khan Calls Out Saima Baloch

Hira Khan's outspoken defense of her husband didn’t stop there. She added a sharp comment, saying, “I said what I said!”—making it clear that she stands firmly by her words.

Tamasha Season 3 has officially kicked off, bringing with it a fresh wave of drama and excitement. One of the most talked-about aspects of the show is the participation of Arsalan, husband of actress Hira Khan. His involvement has not only added intrigue but also led to some heated moments, particularly with fellow contestant Saima Baloch.

Arsalan vs. Saima Baloch: The Conflict Unfolds

The tension between Arsalan and Saima Baloch has quickly become a focal point of Tamasha Season 3. In a recent episode, a confrontation between the two contestants took place, where Arsalan stood his ground against what he perceived as Saima’s unacceptable behavior. Hira Khan, watching from the sidelines, did not hesitate to show her support for her husband.

Sharing a clip of the episode on social media, Hira took a strong stance against Saima. “Are you for real? Itni giri hui? I am so proud of my husband; he is the only person in the house who has stood up face to face to your bakwas!” Hira exclaimed. She further warned Saima that while the show would eventually end, she would still have to face the consequences in real life.

Hira Khan Speaks Out: “I Said What I Said!”

Hira Khan’s outspoken defense of her husband didn’t stop there. She added a sharp comment, saying, “I said what I said!”—making it clear that she stands firmly by her words. The message was further intensified with a playful yet pointed warning: “P.S. Saima, aapko kelay mai bheti hun bahir anay per don’t worry.”

Other Contestants Weigh In

The conflict didn’t go unnoticed by the other contestants. Dania Anwer expressed her disappointment in Saima, stating, “What happened to you, Saima? I had only heard good things about you outside, and yet you are stooping down to new levels of low every day. Probably because you chose the wrong side to be on.” Arsalan, on the other hand, remained resolute in his stance, encouraging himself to “stay strong.” He acknowledged the difficulty of staying true to his principles while being surrounded by negativity, and proudly declared himself as “the only Wazir who dares to stand up against injustice.”

Netizens React: Divided Opinions on Saima Baloch

The drama has also sparked a wave of reactions from viewers. Social media is abuzz with opinions on Saima Baloch’s behavior, with some criticizing her while others appreciate her role in keeping the show lively. One user commented, “Don’t like her, but she’s the only one keeping the spice up. Soo yeah.” Another added, “She is the only one doing the actual tamasha, minus her, the show will be preachy and boring. For a show to be interesting, there should always be a conflict.” However, not all feedback was positive; some viewers labeled Saima as “an absolute attention seeker,” praising contestants like Wajeeha, Aqeel, and Arsalan for being “sensible and easygoing.”

The Ongoing Drama

As Tamasha Season 3 progresses, the drama between Arsalan and Saima Baloch is far from over. While the show continues to entertain with its twists and turns, it is clear that the tension between these contestants is keeping audiences glued to their screens. Whether Saima is loved or hated, one thing is certain: she is at the center of the show’s most talked-about moments.

Can Babar Azam Break Virat Kohli’s Record Of 50 ODI Centuries?

Babar vs. Kohli: Ian Smith Weighs In on Cricket’s Hottest Debate
Babar vs. Kohli: Ian Smith Weighs In on Cricket’s Hottest Debate

For over a decade, Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries seemed untouchable. The “Little Master” was a class apart, and his record stood as a towering milestone in the world of cricket.

But then came Virat Kohli, who not only matched the legend but surpassed him, becoming the first cricketer in history to notch up 50 ODI tons. Now, the cricketing world is abuzz with a new question:

“Can Babar Azam, who has already established himself as one of the top batters of his generation, break Kohli’s record?”

babar-azam-rewrites-history-books-in-third-ireland-t20i

Babar Azam: A Run-Machine in the Making

Babar Azam is no stranger to breaking records. With 19 ODI centuries to his name and an impressive average of 56.72, the Pakistani captain has shown that he has the skills and temperament to score big.

He’s been a consistent performer for Pakistan, often carrying the team’s batting lineup on his shoulders. But while the numbers are impressive, they also tell a more complex story.

The Challenge Ahead

Virat Kohli’s journey to 50 centuries wasn’t just about his extraordinary talent; it was also about the sheer volume of ODIs he played. Kohli was fortunate to be at his peak during a time when ODIs were still a central part of international cricket schedules.

In contrast, Babar Azam is facing a different landscape. With the rise of T20 cricket and the increasing focus on franchise leagues, the number of ODIs being played has significantly reduced.

From 2020 to 2023, Babar has only played 43 ODIs, a stark contrast to the number of matches played by Kohli during the same stage of his career. And as of August 2024, Babar is yet to play a single ODI this year.

Form and Fitness: Key Factors for Babar Azam

Another factor to consider is form. While Babar started his ODI career at a rapid pace, his form across formats has seen a dip in recent times. In 2023, he scored 1,065 runs in 25 matches, but most of those runs came in the first half of the year.

His performance in the ODI World Cup was below par, with no centuries to his name. However, Babar is still only 29 years old. If he stays fit and continues to play at the highest level for another 7-8 years, or even 10 years, there’s no reason why he can’t challenge Kohli’s record.

Is Breaking the Record Possible?

The task ahead for Babar Azam is daunting. He needs 32 more ODI centuries to surpass Virat Kohli, and with the current trend of fewer ODIs, it seems almost impossible. However, if Babar can maintain his fitness and form, and if Pakistan plays enough ODIs in the coming years, he could get close.

In cricket, nothing is certain. Records are made to be broken, and Babar has already shown that he has the talent to do extraordinary things. Whether he can break Kohli’s record remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure—cricket fans will be eagerly watching his journey.

Ihsanullah Hits Back At Father’s Rehab Claims

how-pcb-medical-panel-destroyed-ihsanullah

Pakistan’s injured pacer Ihsanullah, has recently found himself at the centre of a heated debate over his rehabilitation process.

After suffering an elbow injury last year, the young fast bowler has been working hard to make his way back to international cricket. However, concerns about the quality of care he’s receiving in his hometown of Swat have sparked quite a bit of conversation.

The Injury and Recovery Journey

Ihsanullah, who made his mark on the international stage with one ODI and four T20Is, has been sidelined since his elbow injury during Pakistan’s ODI series against New Zealand in April of last year.

Read More: How Has PCB’s Medical Panel Destroyed Ihsanullah’s Future?

The injury required surgery, which was successfully carried out in Lahore in September. Since then, the PCB has kept a close eye on his recovery, with Chairman Mohsin Naqvi even ordering the medical board to take special care of the promising pacer.

However, not everyone is convinced that Ihsanullah is getting the best possible care. His father, Abdul Nasir, recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the rehabilitation process in Swat. He highlighted the lack of facilities and qualified doctors in their hometown, urging the PCB to transfer his son to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

“My son is not receiving adequate care in Swat due to the lack of facilities and qualified doctors,” Abdul Nasir said. “It is crucial for his rehabilitation that he be transferred to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he can receive the necessary treatment to save his career.”

Adding to the chorus of concern is Malik Nasir, Ihsanullah’s coach in Lahore. He echoed the worries about the risks to Ihsanullah’s career if his rehabilitation isn’t handled with the utmost care.

Ihsanullah’s Response

Despite the concerns from his father and coach, Ihsanullah himself has a different take on the situation. In a recent statement, he reassured his fans and the cricketing community that his recovery in Swat is progressing well.

“My rehab in Swat is going well, and I am confident of making a comeback soon,” Ihsanullah said.

“The bend in my elbow and the angle of my straight arm are improving significantly. However, a report surfaced in the media claiming that my rehab isn’t going well. I urge the PCB to allow me to continue my rehab in Swat, as the recovery here is on the right track.”

What’s Next for Ihsanullah?

With both his family and coach advocating for a move to Lahore, and Ihsanullah himself content with his current progress in Swat, the PCB finds itself in a delicate position. The young pacer’s future is undoubtedly bright, but the path he takes to return to full fitness will be crucial.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether Ihsanullah continues his rehab in Swat or if the PCB steps in to relocate him to the NCA in Lahore.

One thing is clear: Ihsanullah is determined to make a strong comeback, and his journey back to the cricket field is one that everyone will be watching closely.

Waqar Younis Faces Backlash Over Abrar Ahmed, Kamran Ghulam’s Omission

In a surprising move, the Pakistan selection committee dropped mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed and all-rounder Kamran Ghulam from the squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh.

The decision did not sit well with fans and critics alike. Former Pakistan fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed has taken to social media to criticize Waqar Younis and the selection committee for dropping Abrar and Kamran.

For the unversed, Waqar Younis recently joined the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the strong role of advisor to the chairman, having authority over all cricketing decisions.

Tanvir Ahmed’s Stinging Critique

Tanvir, known for his candid opinions, didn’t mince words when he took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disappointment. His main target? None other than Waqar Younis.

“Have you all seen? Waqar Younis and the selection committee have removed Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam from the Test matches against Bangladesh,” Tanvir posted.

But he didn’t stop there. In another post, Tanvir went on to call the selection committee “third-class” for their decision, questioning how such key players could be dropped.

“Where is this Waqar Younis who keeps portraying himself as a big legend? How have these two been dropped?” he added.

A Spin Conundrum for Pakistan

The exclusion of Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam has left Pakistan with limited spin options for the first Test. Salman Ali Agha is now expected to be the primary spinner for the series.

This decision has sparked concerns among fans and analysts alike, especially given the potential impact on the team’s performance. With Abrar and Kamran out of the picture, Pakistan is going with an all-pace bowling lineup.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the pack with Naseem Shah and Mir Hamza expected to support him during the first Test. However, the decision to rely heavily on pace in a series that could benefit from a strong spin attack has raised eyebrows.

Venue Change Adds to the Drama

Adding to the situation, the second Test, initially scheduled to be held in Karachi from August 30 to September 3, has been moved to Rawalpindi.

The relocation is due to ongoing renovations at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, which is being upgraded ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

With all eyes on Rawalpindi, it remains to be seen how the team will perform without two of its promising players. Will the decision to drop Abrar and Kamran pay off, or will it come back to haunt the selectors? Only time will tell.
