‘They Look Like Mummies’: Salman Butt Criticises Pakistan Players’ Fitness

Fakhar Zaman, once a mainstay at the top of Pakistan’s batting order, has found himself out of the national setup due to a persistent knee injury. He was excluded from the 2024-25 central contracts and missed out on tours to Australia and Zimbabwe.

Interim head coach Aaqib Javed, speaking to the media in Lahore, called Fakhar a “match-winner” and reassured fans of his eventual return.

The former captain pointed out that fitness is not just about endurance or cardio. “Just running isn’t enough to build resilience. Whether it’s Fakhar or any other player, strength training is a must. It’s as simple as that.”

One of Butt’s standout remarks was his comparison of players to “Egyptian mummies” due to their excessive use of athletic tape.

“I look at these players, and I’m amazed—there’s tape on their knees, tape on their legs. They look less like athletes and more like mummies from the movies, wrapped in so many tapes,” he said.

This analogy, though amusing, underscores a serious issue. Butt emphasized that relying on external supports like tape can only do so much. Building muscle strength, on the other hand, offers long-term protection and enhances performance.

“Instead of wrapping your bones with tape, wrap them with muscle. Don’t fear gaining muscle weight. Muscle protects your bones, and it enhances agility, speed, and explosive strength,” Butt advised.

I hope that these efforts will play a part in further strengthening female entrepreneurship, large and small.”

Highlighting the struggles of women entrepreneurs, Ms. Ayesha Ashraf Jangda, Senior Manager, Women Financial Services Department, BankIslami, said: “One of the reasons women entrepreneurs are unable to scale up their business and make them sustainable is due to lack of awareness of subsidized financing facilities and Islamic banking solutions tailored for them. ‘Rust’ to Premiere After Three Years on-set Shooting

Three years after the tragic on-set shooting that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Rust is set to make its world premiere at the Camerimage Film Festival in Torun, Poland. The event honours cinematography and aims to celebrate Hutchins’ legacy, though the premiere has reignited controversy surrounding the incident and its aftermath.

The Tragedy and Its Fallout

In October 2021, Halyna Hutchins, a rising star in Hollywood cinematography, was fatally shot during a rehearsal on the New Mexico set of Rust. Alec Baldwin, who was holding the revolver at the time, has faced public and legal scrutiny, with allegations of violating gun safety protocols.

In a message for World Children’s Day, the Prime Minister prompted parents, educators, members of society, and policymakers to come together and create a society where every child feels loved, protected, and valued. He observed that today serves as a reminder of society’s duty to protect and fulfil the rights of all children without discrimination. Additionally, ensuring that every child has access to quality education, healthcare, and a safe environment. Regardless of their background, where they come from, what colour they are or their religion. He stressed that it is our responsibility to provide them with the resources they need to reach their full potential.

According to Coinglass, Bitcoin liquidations have hit approximately $77.32 million (around 22.6 billion PKR) in the last 24 hours. Around 62% of these liquidations were from short (sell) positions, proving elevated market activity and fluctuation as Bitcoin prices rise. Chris Weston, head of research at Australian online broker Pepperstone, stated that there is genuine buying pressure behind Bitcoin, and that “another kick higher should bring in a fresh chase from those who like to buy what’s strong”.

Spot ETF Options Fuel Optimism and Bitcoin Price Surge

The optimism surrounding the trading of spot Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) options has played a significant role in Bitcoin’s price hike. BlackRock’s Bitcoin spot ETF (IBIT) began trading on the Nasdaq on October 19^th, and this has increased the optimism that Bitcoin’s value will continue to rise.

Lahore Smog: New Guidelines Issued for Schools and Restaurants

For weeks, Punjab has been suffocated by smog, which has afflicted approximately 2 million people. The haze has covered large areas of the state with a hazardous cloud. Due to the levels of toxins in the air, the Punjab province declared a health emergency on Friday, the 15th of November, prohibiting construction, closing schools for an additional week, and converting colleges and universities to online from on-campus.

Improvement in Air Quality

Lahore’s 497 Air Quality Index (AQI) reading ranked it the world’s second most polluted city. However, the intensity of smog has dropped to some extent in Lahore and other cities in Punjab. This improved air quality has been attributed to changes in wind direction and rainfall.

Schools to Reopen

The Government of Punjab had earlier announced that schools would be closed from November 17 to November 25. However, as the smog levels have slightly decreased, the Punjab Government announced in a notification that schools in the Rawalpindi Division will reopen on November 20.

A number of preventative precautions are part of the reopening plan: masks will be required for both staff and kids, and schools will not open before 8:45 am. However, until further notice, outdoor sports and extracurricular activities are still prohibited. To protect public health, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stressed the need for strict measures. “Children’s education is vital, but health cannot be compromised,” she pointed out.

Additionally, the Punjab Higher Education Department has declared that all colleges and universities, both public and private, will reopen on November 20 in accordance with the same rules.

Smog Restrictions Relaxed

Previously, the Lahore District administration had restricted outdoor activities in order to mitigate the growing threat of smog. According to reports, the department has now changed the hours of operation for hotels and restaurants. Establishments will now be allowed to serve dine-in and outdoor services until 10 PM, instead of the prior 4 PM curfew.

While the smog situation in Punjab has shown signs of slight improvement, the government is maintaining and warning to take precautionary measures to ensure public health and safety. The government has advised the residents of Punjab to wear masks and limit outdoor activities. They recommend the public to stay constantly informed and updated about the local air quality levels.
