Prime Minister’s Startup Pakistan Program

A wave of anger and grief has taken over Pakistan. On Saturday, the Punjab Police Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials opened fire on a car near Sahiwal, killing four persons; a couple, their teenage daughter and their driver.

The couple identified as Khalil and Nabeela were traveling with their children, Areeba, Umair, Muniba, and Hadia when the incident took place.

The family was on their way to Burewala from Lahore to attend a wedding. Umair has reportedly sustained 6 bullet wounds in his leg, while Mubia has received an injury on her hand as a result of shattered glass. Hadia has however remained safe.

CTD spokesperson claimed that they had received information that there were three other suspected terrorists on-the-spot, who managed to escape.

Umair, the son of the deceased couple had to say the following:

My papa, mummy, sister and a friend of my father were killed. We survived the firing. We were taken to a petrol station and left there.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has now taken notice of the horrific incident. The PM tweeted:

Still shocked at seeing the traumatized children who saw their parents shot before their eyes. Any parent would be shocked as they would think of their own children in such a traumatic situation. These children will now be fully looked after by the state as its responsibility.

He added:

The grief & anger of the ppl of Pak on Sahiwal incident is understandable & justified. I assure the nation that when I return from Qatar not only will the guilty be given exemplary punishment but I will review the entire structure of Punjab police & start process of reforming it.

We are now to see what action PM Imran Khan will take when he returns from his visit to Qatar.
