Meta Wins Blockbuster AI Copyright Case

meta-wins-blockbuster-ai-copyright-case

A San Francisco federal judge awarded summary judgment to Meta, tossing out an AI copyright case by 13 prominent writers, names such as Sarah Silverman and Ta-Nehisi Coates. They sued Meta for using their books without authorisation to train its LLaMA language model.

Judge Vince Chhabria found the authors had failed to demonstrate any market harm or dilution. That omission made Meta’s victory, issued as a “fair use” case.

Judge’s Caution

Nevertheless, the judge did not completely sanction the way Meta obtains data. He referred to aspects of Meta’s defence as “nonsense.” He also made it clear that the decision applies only to these 13 authors, not every case. Other writers with more meritorious claims may still succeed.

Judge Chhabria established terms for future lawsuits. He noted an attractive legal path: “Market dilution.” AI programs that produce replicas competing with human authors might be in trouble. He outlined three ways this might occur:

  • Verbatim copying
  • Bid for licensing markets
  • Dumping work, undercutting the original demand

This “transformative use” defence comes shortly after a similar win for Anthropic, whose Claude model was also cleared under fair use, though it still faces another trial over alleged piracy.

Industry Reactions

Meta welcomed the victory. It described fair use as “crucial” for creating transformative AI. It indicates that its research enables creativity and innovation to be fueled. Nevertheless, caution from the court means no free-for-all license to use copyrighted content.

For authors and artists, this week’s ruling is two-edged. Meta avoided financial repercussions. The judge also left the door open to future lawsuits under superior evidence. The legal waters are still unclear.

Meta won, but the verdict doesn’t alter the rules. Vigilant creators and their attorneys can continue to challenge AI models. The courts are now set for new fights in the copyright frontier.

Groundbreaking Project Launched to Build Human DNA Artificially!

groundbreaking-project-launched-to-build-human-dna-artificially

The field of genetic technology has undergone significant advancements in the last several decades, spearheading the development of novel treatment techniques and therapeutic drugs.

Much of the use of genetic engineering hinges on our ability to decode and understand our DNA. Scientists in the UK have undertaken a project that could enhance our understanding of the human genome and revolutionise treatment.

The Synthetic Human Genome (SynHG) project, led by Professor Jason Chin at MRC’s Lab of Molecular Biology in Cambridge (LMB), will synthesise the entire human genome from scratch.

This endeavour could lead to radical new therapies and cure diseases with no present treatment, ushering medical care in a new era.

Scientists in the UK are synthesising human DNA.

Testing Small Bits of the Human Genome in Skin Cells

To provide a simplified understanding of the structure and organisation of human DNA, one must appreciate that it is organised in the form of microscopic structures called chromosomes.

Researchers of the SynHG project will construct small sections of human chromosomes and test them in skin cells. However, this will not be an easy task due to the sheer complexity of the human genome.

Speaking of the challenges associated with the project and its potential implications, Dr Julian Sale, a group leader at LMB, stated:

“There’s an awful lot of the genome, sometimes called the dark matter of the genome, that we don’t know what it does. The idea is that if you can build genomes successfully, you can fully understand them.”

This knowledge will equip scientists to devise treatments for diseases that are poorly treated at present. Another possibility is the creation of cells immune to attack by viruses.

Considering the potential ethical and moral dilemmas associated with building the human genome, the SynHG will have ethical oversight from Professor Joy Zhang and his team at the University of Kent.

Rise of Ethical and Environmental Consequences

China’s team has already successfully created the genome of E. coli, a bacterium. Therefore, it is possible to create bacteria that break down plastic waste and clear up oil spills.

However, these organisms pose a significant threat to the environment, potentially threatening entire habitats and ecosystems.

There is also the ethical concern of “designer babies.” Parents could have the power to shape their unborn children to their preferences, raising questions about the degree of control they should have in such cases.

Another concern relates to the idea that celebrities and prominent celebrities might start licensing their genome, giving rise to a legal and ethical debate.

Fortunately, the SynHG project does have an ethical team to address potential concerns, demonstrating much foresight in the researchers.

Only time will reveal the true capabilities of the project. Understanding the human genome could be beneficial, but might lead to unintended consequences if such technologies land in the wrong hands.

Bride-to-Be? Here’s What You Should Start Doing Right Now

bride-to-be-heres-what-you-should-start-doing-right-now

So, you said yes! Congrats, bride-to-be! Let it sink in and start preparing for your big day ASAP. Now is the time to bring your dream Pinterest boards to life, babe. Get your girlies and get on with it.

Start Hitting the Gym NOW!

Now that the date is set and the wedding is around the corner, it’s about time you lock in. It’s time to burn those calories before you regret it later. For most girls, it’s a dream to fit into their designer dresses, but what a bummer if one can’t.

Make yourself a workout routine, either through an online workout app or a gym trainer and follow it consistently. Remember that on the day of your wedding, when you look at your physique in your dream dress, it will all become worth it.

Start Your Skin Care

Glow-ups don’t happen overnight, so get on your skincare game.

Start a simple routine with a cleanser, moisturiser and SPF. Go easy on the ten-step K-beauty hauls. Instead, start with the basics: Drink water like it’s your side hustle and please, PLEASE don’t fall for crash diets. Your skin needs to be healthy inside and out, and not starved.

If you really want to feel your best, maybe swap that daily cola for coconut water. Flawless bridal makeup starts with flawless skin.

Go Visit a Dermatologist for Pre-Wedding Treatments

I have seen a lot of people underestimate this step. People often go to parlours for treatments, but what they don’t understand is that certain pre-wedding treatments should always be handled by a dermatologist. ONLY BY A CERTIFIED DERMATOLOGIST.

If you’ve got acne scars, pigmentation, texture, or even just dullness, please schedule yourself with a good dermatologist. They’ll recommend treatments like hydra facials, chemical peels, micro-needling, micro-dermabrasion, PRP treatments or glow-boosting therapies that actually work.

The earlier you start, the better your skin will be by the time the makeup artists get to work.

Get Laser Done While You are at It

Waxing during wedding week? We don’t know her!

If you’ve been considering laser hair removal, start your session a good 6 months ago. The earlier you start, the smoother and stress-free you’ll be on your big day.

Bonus? You won’t need to worry about those last-minute salon runs during your honeymoon either.

Bookmark Your Vendors Before Everyone Else Does

Makeup artists, photographers, decorators, and henna artists; they book out months in advance. If you’ve been saving possible vendors and decorators on Instagram, DM them now and book them before it becomes a last-minute struggle.

Don’t wait till dates clash or your favourites will be fully booked. You don’t want to settle for second-best when it comes to your once-in-a-lifetime day.

Start Building Your Bridal Trousseau

Your bridal trousseau is more than just clothes. Bulk up on comfy yet stylish outfits for post-wedding dinners, soft loungewear, dupattas, jewellery basics, sandals and even a good steamer.

Don’t blow your budget on a dozen heavy formals you’ll never wear again. Instead, invest in clothes that you wear day-to-day, because you just can’t wear heavy formal clothes all your wedded life.

Start early, stay consistent, and remember: This isn’t about being perfect, it’s about feeling like your best self when all eyes are on you. You’ve got this!

Swat River Flash Floods Turn Deadly: Four Bodies Recovered, Several Still Missing

swat-river-flash-floods-turn-deadly-four-bodies-recovered-several-still-missing

A heavy flood hit the Swat River early Friday, drowning several people. Rescue officials confirmed they recovered four bodies and launched operations across multiple locations.

Teams recovered three bodies from Ingaro Dheri and found another in Ghalegy. Officials have not confirmed the total number of missing persons, but local reports claim that several people remain unaccounted for.

Shah Fahad, Director General of Rescue 1122, said in a press release, “The rescue effort is being conducted at five various locations and 80 personnel of Rescue 1122 are assisting in the search operation.” His team continues searching the hardest-hit areas.

A spokesperson for Swat Rescue 1122 said that strong floods rushed through the area and swept away multiple people. He added, “Two bodies have been found so far; the search for others is still going on, but high-level flood is stalling the operation.”

Rising water levels have slowed progress, but teams continue searching. The situation in the flood-affected areas remains dangerous and tense.

Rescue workers face strong currents in the Swat River and low visibility while moving through the water. Despite the risks, they continue their work, and local volunteers support them where possible.

Officials expect the number of victims to rise as the operation continues. They are coordinating efforts across the district to cover all affected areas.

Rescue 1122 teams brought equipment and trained workers to deal with the situation. They are still working, even with bad weather and tough ground.

Authorities have urged residents to stay away from the river and flooded areas. They also asked people to cooperate with emergency services.

Officials plan to release more updates as they confirm new details. They promised to keep the public informed throughout the ongoing operation.

Cristiano Ronaldo Extends Al Nassr Contract Until 2027

cristiano-ronaldo-hints-at-retirement-cristiano-ronaldo-extends-al-nassr-contract-until-2027

Cristiano Ronaldo is staying put. After weeks of cryptic posts and transfer rumors, the footballing icon has finally put pen to paper, extending his contract with Al Nassr until 2027.

The announcement came Thursday with a simple but striking message on X (formerly Twitter): “Cristiano Ronaldo is staying at @AlNassrFC until 2027.”

But of course, this is Ronaldo. Nothing he does is ever simple. Moments before the reveal, Al Nassr dropped a teaser video featuring the 40-year-old walking along a Saudi beachfront, coolly saying: “Al Nassr forever.”

Minutes later, Ronaldo sealed the deal with an Instagram post of his own: “A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s make history together.”

From a “Chapter Over” to a Record-Breaking New One

Interestingly, this comes just weeks after Ronaldo had fans guessing with his cryptic “This chapter is over” post following a disappointing season finish.

Al Nassr ended the Saudi Pro League in third place and once again missed out on silverware, including a painful exit in the AFC Champions League semi-final.

But clearly, the chapter wasn’t over—it was just being rewritten with a pen dipped in gold.

Let’s Talk Numbers

Ronaldo’s new deal isn’t just a contract. It’s possibly the most extravagant agreement in professional sport history. Buckle up.

Here’s what CR7 is set to earn:

  • £178 million per year — That’s £3.4 million per week.
  • £80,000 per goal — And that jumps 20% in year two.
  • £40,000 per assist, with the same 20% hike.
  • £24.5 million signing bonus — rising to £38 million if he triggers the extension.

And the bonuses don’t stop there:

  • £8 million if Al Nassr win the Saudi Pro League.
  • £4 million if Ronaldo finishes as top scorer.
  • £6.5 million if Al Nassr lift the AFC Champions League title.

Basically, every time he scores or helps win a trophy, it’s not just for glory—it’s a serious payday.

The Off-Field Perks? Only Fit for a King

If the on-field incentives sound luxurious, wait till you hear about the lifestyle clauses. Ronaldo’s contract reads more like a royal charter than a football deal.

Here’s what else he gets:

  • £4 million annually for private jet expenses
  • £60 million in sponsorships lined up through Saudi brands
  • A 16-member personal staff, including:
  • 3 drivers
  • 4 housekeepers
  • 2 private chefs
  • 3 gardeners
  • 4 full-time bodyguards

Oh, and here’s the real game-changer: Ronaldo now owns 15% of Al Nassr itself—a stake valued at around £33 million. That makes him the first active footballer to own part of the club he plays for. Simply unprecedented.

Ronaldo: More Than a Player For Al Nassr

When Ronaldo first signed for Al Nassr in 2023, many saw it as a final payday. A step into football’s twilight zone. But two years on, that narrative has flipped.

He’s not just finishing a career—he’s shaping an entire football ecosystem. His influence has helped turn Saudi Arabia into a genuine destination for world-class talent and high-stakes ambition.

He’s not just a player anymore; he’s a brand ambassador, part-owner, and global icon rolled into one. And with Saudi Arabia hosting the 2034 World Cup, this move is about legacy, not just money.

The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals, and judging by the South Africa Champions’ squad, they’re not aiming for anything less than the trophy.

From power hitters like Richard Levi to death-over experts like Imran Tahir, this squad blends explosive batting, tactical bowling, and a whole lot of experience.

Franchise owner Amandeep Singh also couldn’t hide his enthusiasm:

“Legends like AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, and JP Duminy carry a legacy that echoes across generations,” he said.
“We’re confident the South Africa Champions will set the tournament ablaze.”

Former Pakistan Pacer Comments On Wasim Akram vs Jasprit Bumrah Debate

jasprit-bumrah-credits-wasim-akram-waqar-younis

Cricket debates are nothing new; fans love them, players fuel them, and social media lives off them. However, when Varun Aaron, a former Indian pacer, recently claimed that Jasprit Bumrah is better than Wasim Akram, it didn’t just stir debate; it sparked a storm. And let’s just say, former Pakistan bowler Abdur Rouf Khan didn’t take the comparison lightly.

Varun Aaron’s Bold Take

It all began during an interview where Aaron couldn’t stop raving about Bumrah’s heroics, especially after his recent five-wicket haul against England. Praising Bumrah, Aaron declared:

“Calling him a genius would be an understatement.”

He pointed out that Bumrah has now overtaken Wasim Akram in terms of Test wickets in SENA countries, South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. That stat alone, Aaron argued, puts Bumrah in a class of his own, perhaps even a level above the legendary Akram.

“That says it all for me,” he added, “because Wasim was arguably the best fast bowler to walk the face of the earth—and Bumrah is pretty much the same, if not better.”

That last line, however, didn’t sit well with some in the cricketing fraternity.

Abdur Rouf: “It’s Beyond Ridiculous”

Abdur Rouf Khan, a former Pakistan Test bowler, didn’t mince words. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he slammed Aaron for what he called a “stupid” and “biased” comparison.

“I am surprised by those former Indian players who compare Bumrah with Wasim Akram,” Rouf wrote.

abdur-rouf-comments-on-wasim-akram-jasprit-bumrah-debate
Abdur Rouf’s Comments on Wasim Akram and Jasprit Bumra Debate

“It wouldn’t be surprising if a common person with no understanding of cricket said such a stupid thing, but if a Test cricketer did this, it means that he either has no knowledge of cricket or is a bigot of the highest order.”

Rouf wasn’t done there. He doubled down on Akram’s greatness, calling him “one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history” and saying that no one can ever match his naturally gifted skills.

Anna Wintour Steps Down; Is Vogue Seeking a New Head of Editorial Content?

anna-wintour-steps-down-is-vogue-seeking-a-new-head-of-editorial-content

The magazine legend, the inspiration behind “The Devil Wears Prada,” Anna Wintour, has stepped down. Yes, the Editor-in-Chief of the fashion bible Vogue has decided to step down after a total of 37 years on Thursday, 26th June.

What an end of an era.

However, it’s not all bad as Wintour (who is currently 75 years of age) will remain chief content officer Condé Nast and global editorial director, Vogue. Now, Wintour’s departure begs the question: Who could possibly fill her shoes?

Farewell to the Face Behind Vogue

“Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one’s work. When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine,” Wintour told Vogue staff.

British-born Anna Wintour has been one of the most influential and formidable figures in fashion and magazine journalism for decades. She is famous for her ever-present sunglasses, unchanging bob haircut and an intimidating aura.

Since 1988, she’s been at the helm of Vogue. Anna has single-handedly transformed Vogue from a traditional fashion magazine into a global trademark of fashion.

She was widely seen as the inspiration behind The Devil Wears Prada, a hit 2003 novel and 2006 movie, in which the role of a tyrannical magazine editor was played by Meryl Streep.

Throughout her tenure, the longtime editor has been well-known for championing younger designers, giving them multiple opportunities to expand their businesses and exposure.

Why Anna Wintour Steps Down Now

Sources suggest that Wintour is ready for a new chapter in her career. While no scandal or drama appears to be at play, there’s growing speculation that she wants to prioritise mentorship and behind-the-scenes advisory roles at Condé Nast and in the broader creative world.

Over the last four years, Wintour’s role at Condé Nast has vastly expanded too, her remit across the company’s global titles growing alongside her work editing Vogue US and overseeing events including Vogue World and the Met Gala.

In effect, the addition of a new editorial lead for Vogue US will allow Wintour greater time and flexibility to support the other global markets that Condé Nast serves.

anna-wintour-and-team
Anna Wintour and Team

Who will Replace Anna Wintour?

Of course, the big question now is who will succeed Wintour in fashion’s most prominent job. Condé Nast hasn’t announced a replacement as of now.

Some insiders suggest that Chioma Nnadi (the head of British Vogue) may be in the running. Others think Edward Enninful might finally step into the spotlight. Eva Chen, a fashion week fixture and Met Gala regular, was also named on social media. Whoever the editor is, the fashion trends and the fashion industry will certainly see a big shift.

Amy Astley’s name also quickly made the rounds, as she was the head of Teen Vogue when it was at its peak and, most notably, was handpicked by Wintour herself for the gig at the time.

Wintour will undoubtedly play a role in selecting her successor, and there will be many hoping for consideration.

anna-wintour-and-daughter
Anna Wintour and her Daughter

Some even suggest that the nepo baby, Anna Wintour’s own daughter, Bee Shaffer Carrozzini, is also a potential hire. This seems very likely because, firstly, that’s literally her daughter, and many prefer to leave behind their own in order to keep the legacy.

Secondly, Wintour recently left Vanity Fair staff ‘blindsided‘ over her surprising decision to appoint her daughter’s friend to run the magazine. This indicates the start of her daughter stepping in while the mother, Anna Wintour, steps down from the throne.

How did 11 People Die During the Rain?

why-did-11-people-die-after-the-rain

As the storm got worse, at least eleven people died in rain-related accidents across Pakistan. These deaths were caused by roof collapses, storms, and flooding across Hyderabad, Punjab, Gilgit, and Thehri.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has projected greater precipitation on Friday in Karachi, Hyderabad, and some other cities.

In Hyderabad, two youngsters and 14 more were wounded when a madrassa’s roof fell during the rain. Six individuals lost their lives and twenty-five more were injured in several rain accidents in Punjab.

Five more people were hurt in Thehri when a house’s roof collapsed and a youngster died.

A girl also nearly drowned in the Nala Kargah Near Gilgit. Though she was saved, her aunt and mother died while trying to save her. The Met Office warned of more monsoon rain, strong winds, and dust storms. It also hinted at more possible seasonal nullah floods and low visibility brought on by southern dust storms.

Overnight, rain in Karachi waterlogged many regions. About 350 power feeders tripped, resulting in frequent citywide blackouts. Mayor Murtaza Wahab went through the struck regions like Defence, Clifton, South District, the Governor House, the Sindh Assembly, and the Supreme Court.

At the same time, in Islamabad, rainwater seeped through the roof of the High Court building, constructed barely two years ago.

Water collected underpasses in Rahim Yar Khan and caused transportation problems. Strong winds brought down signboards and trees in Khairpur, Larkana, and Padidan; rain lowered temperatures in Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Where to Find the Best Tiramisu in Karachi (Tiramisu Near Me)

where-to-find-the-best-tiramisu-in-karachi-tiramisu-near-me

Lately, Karachi has been obsessed with coffee. One coffee shop after another in every corner of the city, but what about the coffee-soaked cake that is infamously known as the Tiramisu cake? Where to find the best Tiramisu in Karachi?

We, caffeine addicts, have been dreaming about this cake for far too long. Behold, you won’t be just dreaming about it anymore. Here is a list of the best Tiramisu places in Karachi.

Lals

Known mostly for chocolates and gelato, Lals makes one of the best tiramisus in town. Their Tiramisu Cake is moist and rich in flavour, with soft cake layers soaked in espresso, giving off an intense flavour of coffee filled with whipped mascarpone cream frosting.

Their version of the cake is elegant, creamy, and rich without being too overpowering, so that it gives you a ick.

Locations: DHA, Dolmen, KDA

Paul Pakistan

If you like your desserts with a touch of luxury, Paul is where it’s at. Their tiramisu is made with high-quality ingredients and a classic French-meets-Italian touch. It’s slightly heavier, more indulgent, and worth every calorie.

Location: DHA

Delizia Bakery

You’ve probably had their cakes at birthdays, but Delizia’s tiramisu is just as impressive. I have no idea what they put in their Tiramisu, but it’s never too much for those who don’t have a sweet tooth.

Delizia was always known for its cake, but the Tiramisu one is probably the show stealer. It’s layered beautifully in jars and tastes creamy with a good coffee punch.

Location: Honestly, all over Karachi (Boat Basin, Com3, Sindhi Muslim, North Nazimabad and more)

The Italian Desert Co.

The Tiramisu of Italian Desert Co. is light, creamy and perfectly balanced; nailed it here.

The ladyfingers (or Naples biscuits) layered with airy light mascarpone cream prove to be one of the most delectable tiramisus. Moreover, it is economical too compared to others in the market.

Black Honey

If you want actual, authentic Tiramisu instead of just a cheap ingredients-based copy, then Black honey can serve you right.

Their tiramisu, with just the right amount of espresso and cocoa powder, almost makes one forget the amount of calories they are about to consume from a slice (which is great, isn’t it?).

However, their Tiramisu is much more dense as compared to others, so it might appeal to some taste buds more than the others.

Karachi is ‘Serving’ Tiramisu, and We Can’t be Happier

Karachi has officially joined the tiramisu club, and we’re not complaining at all. Whether you like it fancy and layered, or light and jarred, there’s a tiramisu out there with your name on it.

If I have to choose one, I’ll pick the one from The Italian Dessert. Co. It’s light and creamy and not heavy on the pocket.

So, hop on the trend and bless your taste buds with the best Tiramisu in Karachi before you are left behind.

Here’s What to Gift Your Friend Who’s Getting Married

heres-what-to-gift-your-friend-thats-getting-married

Weddings are a time for joy, love, and let’s be honest, free food. But beneath the glamour and festivities lie powerful religious and social meanings.

It gets even more special when a cousin, sibling, or close friend is tying the knot. In such life-altering moments, one’s efforts to make the occasion extra memorable are justified.

This is where the practice of gift giving enters the equation as a tangible sign of our love for those entering wedlock.

Should a wedding gift be meaningful or lavish? Is it necessary to stick to a budget or expand one’s means? These are some questions one should consider before gifting a friend who is getting married.

Here, we’ve created a convenient mini-guide that will give you popular wedding gift ideas.

Personalised Gifts

If a close friend is tying the knot, you may want to consider giving a personalised gift with significant sentimental value. It should commemorate the couple’s bond and touch upon the companionship you shared with them.

A customised name plate – “Congratulations Mr and Mrs. XYZ”– would be personalised to the couple. Engraved jewellery boxes or photo frames with the couple’s name might also do the trick.

A personalised DIY gift basket is another unique option. Chocolates, tailored to the couple’s preferences, flowers, and customised mugs could accompany romantic photo frames.

Home Appliances

Home appliances may seem like outdated gifts, and could be rejected due to their association with dowry. However, they are essential for a newlywed couple looking to set up their new home.

If the budget allows, kitchen appliances, like a dough-maker, toaster, or an air fryer, cookware, and bedding sets are good options. You might also consider pooling money from fellow companions to finance such gifts.

Experience-Based Gifts

Personalised gifts are cute, and home appliances are useful for the new couple. However, giving the newlyweds a premium experience-based gift will make your present stand out among the rest.

Consider giving the newlywed couple a voucher for a lavish dinner at a five-star restaurant. A romantic dinner with music in the background would certainly make them happy and grateful.

A trip to a vacation hotspot is another thoughtful option. In Pakistan’s case, a tour to the mountains would give them a breather. Alternatively, a large group of friends could pool money to plan an international trip for the newlyweds, giving them a free honeymoon!

If You Can’t Think of Anything Special, Money Would Be Sufficient!

While high-value and unique wedding gifts are more memorable, salami (money given as a wedding gift) in an enclosed and named envelope with best wishes should suffice.

Hence, if you aren’t in the mood to think out of the box or if the friend is a workplace colleague you aren’t extremely close with, money is a good option.

Wedding Gifts Carry a Lot of Meaning

You may get hundreds of wedding invitations all year-round, and it would be inconvenient to spend too much on presents for the new couple. However, these gifts carry a lot of meaning.

Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime occasions, and gifts given to a newlywed couple on their special day could have a lifelong impact. Hence, when you shop for a wedding gift, keep the couple in mind, and get something that really means a lot to them.

Heavy Rain Sweep Through Karachi

is-karachi-ready-for-more-thunderstorms

On Thursday evening, Karachi experienced rain of various intensities across several parts of the city. The rain was light in some areas and very heavy in others. Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Memon Goth, Shah Latif Town, Razzaqabad, and Bhens Colony all experienced rainfall.

The rain impacted other regions as well, including Saddar and nearby towns. Strong showers were witnessed in Steel Town, Pipri, Port Qasim, and Ghaffar Phatak as well as in the surrounding areas.

Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Hasan Square, P.I.B., Jail Road and the surrounding regions also experienced rain in Karachi. Other areas that experienced rain included Safura, Saadi Town, Gulzare Hijri, Scheme 33, Incholi, Gulberg, and Garden.

In Kathore, Gudap, and places near the M9 Motorway, thunderstorms accompanied rain. Near the airport as well, heavy showers were logged.

Other parts of Sindh also had changes in weather besides Karachi. Some towns experienced dust storms, while others had rain. Waterlogging caused by collected rainwater created problems in areas like Qasimabad, Latifabad, Thandi Sarak, and Auto Bhan Road.

The report made no direct remarks from officials. But the weather caused clogged drainage and road conditions issues in several areas. Rainwater took time to drain in several locations, making roadways challenging to cross.

Low-lying places with already poor drainage felt most of the impact of the rain. Additionally, traffic flow was also interrupted in some areas of the city.

The situation in Sindh cities showed that there is no proper system to drain water from rain. Although no injuries or serious damage were reported, the weather revealed metropolitan flaws in controlling sudden downpours and flash flood risk.

As We Enter Muharram, Let’s Look at Why We Practice It

Muharram marks a new beginning.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, but it is much more than just the beginning of a new year. Along with Rajab, Dhul-Qa’dah, and Dhul-Hijjah, it is considered one of the four holy months.

War is forbidden in Muharram. Muslims all over the world, especially in Pakistan, India, Iran, and the Middle East, fast and engage in deep self-reflection. Weddings and celebratory occasions are usually postponed or cancelled in this month, for this is the month to reflect on your inner self, and engage in ibadah.

Furthermore, there are massive social gatherings dominated by sermons and religious teachings. 9th and 10th Muharram carry special significance and also serve as public holidays nationwide.

During these sacred days, all forms of public entertainment are suspended across many communities. For Shia Muslims in particular, the month holds profound religious significance.

They observe it with spiritual intensity, abstaining from music, refraining from wearing bright or festive clothing, and engaging in rituals such as matam (ritualistic chest-beating) to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S) and his companions.

Acts of charity are also central to the commemoration, with many setting up sabeels (stalls) to distribute free water, juices, and food to passersby as a gesture of remembrance and service.

The Battle of Karbala is at the Heart of Muharram

Much of the processions, traditions, and rituals performed in Muharram revolve around the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, where Hazrat Imam Hussain bin Ali, grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his followers were brutally martyred.

Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers rejected the tyrannical rule of Yazid, preferring peace and refusing to pledge loyalty. In the battlefield of Karbala, two armies, the good, led by Imam Hussain, and the evil, led by Yazid, met in a ferocious battle.

Yazid also cut the water supply for Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers, and didn’t even allow it to the children. But he, Hussain, stood steadfast in the face of the hardship, for he knew that God was with him.

Despite a valiant effort, Yazid’s army overpowered and outnumbered Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers. 72 innocent lives were lost, including innocent children, like Hussain’s infant son Ali Al-Asghar, and women. The massacre occurred on the tenth of Muharram (Ashura).

Ashura, thus, became a day of worldwide mourning for Muslims. It is a universal and perpetual reminder of the sacrifices Hazrat Imam Hussain and his loyal followers made for Islam.

Shia Muslims set up water stalls as a symbolic gesture to remind followers of the severe thirst Imam Hussain and his followers endured for days after Yazid’s army had cut off the water supply.

Muharram revolves around The Tragedy of Karbala.

Remembrance and Self-Reflection for all Muslims

While Muharram is conventionally associated with Shi’a Muslims, all sects of Islam should consider it an important month for remembrance and self-reflection.

Hazrat Imam Hussain’s army stood in opposition to a powerful and tyrannical rule. Despite being outmatched and outnumbered, they still brought the fight. This was a brave act of perseverance that all Muslims should emulate.

Karbala is a reminder that tyranny should always be opposed, and one must always choose principle and faith.

CBD Punjab Resolves 30-Year Sewerage Crisis On Walton Road

The advanced drainage system, designed and executed by CBD Punjab, efficiently redirected rainwater into the CBC Lake.

In a major infrastructural milestone, the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA), also known as Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab), has successfully implemented a state-of-the-art drainage system on Walton Road and CBD Route 47. This modern system has effectively addressed the long-standing issue of urban flooding and sewerage, particularly the decades-old challenge faced by residents and commuters on Walton Road.

For the first time in over 30 years, there was no ponding or accumulation of rainwater on Walton Road during the recent pre-monsoon spell, which recorded 58 millimeters of rainfall in Lahore. The newly implemented drainage infrastructure demonstrated its efficiency, ensuring smooth traffic flow and uninterrupted mobility along Walton Road and CBD Route 47 even during heavy downpours.

The advanced drainage system, designed and executed by CBD Punjab, efficiently redirected rainwater into the CBC Lake, eliminating the risk of water stagnation and ensuring that surrounding communities remained unaffected. This initiative is part of CBD Punjab’s broader vision to modernize urban infrastructure and create resilient, smart and sustainable cityscapes.

Speaking about the success of the project, CEO CBD Punjab, Imran Amin, stated,
“Resolving the three-decade-old sewerage issue on Walton Road was a top priority for CBD Punjab. We are committed to developing sustainable urban infrastructure that not only meets today’s needs but also secures our future. The successful functioning of the new drainage system during the recent rains is a testament to our dedication, planning, and execution.”

The achievement highlights CBD Punjab’s growing role in transforming Lahore’s urban landscape through strategic infrastructure development and modern civic solutions. Residents, daily commuters and businesses have expressed relief and appreciation as Walton Road, once notorious for waterlogging and traffic disruption, now stands as a symbol of progress and urban resilience.

This milestone reinforces the authority’s commitment to delivering on its promise of building a modern Punjab, prioritizing citizen welfare, and addressing critical civic challenges through innovation and effective governance.

ACCA Announces Redesign Of Qualification For A Redefined Accountancy Profession

Responding to and anticipating the evolving needs of employers, the changes build on the current strengths of the ACCA Qualification.

Global accountancy body ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has announced a redesign of its gold standard ACCA Qualification focused on a redefinition of accountancy which is expanding and reshaping the role of the profession.

The redesign reflects the increasing role of accountants in driving the widening value needed for business success, combining profitability with ethics, sustainability, the ability to leverage new technology and the agility to deal with economic volatility. Similar changes are being seen in the public sector.

Responding to and anticipating the evolving needs of employers, the changes build on the current strengths of the ACCA Qualification. They will introduce a more integrated learning and assessment experience, including AI-enhanced learning journeys, designed to equip the next generation with the professional skills and technical expertise they need to succeed in a dynamic and volatile world.

The announcement follows extensive consultation with members, employers and learning providers around the world, as well as representatives of Gen Z. The redesigned qualification will be introduced from mid-2027.

Helen Brand, chief executive of ACCA, said: ‘Accountancy is being redefined. Accountants are drivers of sustainable business, promoters of social value, and enablers of new technologies. They are sharpening their financial and ethical skills for a changed world of ever-shifting opportunities and challenges. They innovate with new business models and fresh thinking about what success looks like. They focus on people, planet and prosperity to create value for all.

‘The changes we’re making will equip the next generation for this exciting new future that will bring wider and more varied opportunities.’

Employability is a key focus of the changes, which include the introduction of Employability Modules at each of the qualification’s three levels, providing simulated work experiences on topics such as digital tech, ethics, sustainability and business management.

Enhanced awards and designations recognise achievement and allow students to demonstrate their skills to employers at every stage of their ACCA journey.

Technology, sustainability and ethics, already integral to the ACCA Qualification, will be interwoven at every stage. Another innovation is a new Data Science Professional exam which students can choose as an option at the final ‘Strategic Professional’ level.

Assad Hameed Khan, who heads ACCA in Pakistan, said: ‘The ACCA Qualification has always been the gold standard, globally recognised and highly valued by employers in Pakistan.  It will remain as rigorous, relevant, and future-focused as ever, with an even sharper focus on employability.

‘The redesigned qualification comes together as a unified experience at each of its three levels with learning guidance and support, assessments, employability support, and help to develop skills.  Students will benefit from tailored learning journeys supported by AI technology and a digital mentor.’

ACCA has prepared a smooth transition for all students currently on, or about to start, their ACCA journey. Existing achievements will be recognised and there will be no disadvantage in terms of progression and the cost to complete the qualification.

ACCA students will continue to benefit from the opportunity to attain a world-leading academic qualification alongside their ACCA studies with our new BSc (Hons) Professional Accountancy collaboration with the University of London.

ACCA is known for its focus on inclusion and opportunity. A redesigned ‘Foundations’ route requiring no prior qualifications provides those not meeting the entry criteria for the ACCA Qualification with a way to meet it. Find out more at accaglobal.com

Zohran Mamdani is So Gen Z, Even His Campaign Says So!

zohran-mamdani-is-so-gen-z-even-his-campaign-says-so

Zohran Mamdani is the man who got the whole South Asian community rooting for him despite internal differences. Many even stated that it was the first time that they ever took an interest in the Mayoral campaign, so that truth can finally prevail over billionaire-funded sexual harassers who never saw them as their own.

Zohran didn’t just sweep the millennial and elderly voters, but also won over Gen-Z through his Bollywood-ish quirky but relatable campaign.

Through his hilarious videos, including an Eid greeting card and a video where he’s talking entirely in Urdu as Bollywood music plays in the background, Mamdani has leveraged his South Asian roots to win the hearts of young Desis. And the best part? He is not a whitewashed puppet who is afraid to represent his culture.

The Gen-Z Campaign that Led Kids to Force their Parents

From the jump, Mamdani’s campaign graphics looked like Twitter meme culture but with a desi twist. What’s even better is that he didn’t deviate from his policies and his motive. It was never just about the memes; it was about deeper issues.

This helped his younger supporters spread the word to their parents and grandparents because the content was substantive and approachable rather than niche or snarky.

On the other hand, his primary rival, Andrew M. Cuomo’s campaign was flooded with ads, that also in the evil billionaires ‘ style. This didn’t hide his controversial past, including the sexual harassment allegations made against him.

In August 2021, New York Attorney General Letitia James accused Cuomo, whose father was also governor, of sexually harassing 11 women. He resigned, and then his brother Chris, a star anchor on CNN, had to leave for advising him.

Now that Zohran has won the democratic primary, here are some campaigns that allowed him to make history.

Zohran’s Desi WhatsApp Chat Aesthetic Eid Greeting

On Eid al-Adha, Mamdani shared an Eid Mubarak post on his main Instagram account that was also a reminder for people to vote. But it wasn’t the typical campaign video that you may be thinking about. It was like a peak desi dad WhatsApp “good morning” message and resonated with his young audiences and desi aunties alike.

The post featured bright flowers, a heart-shaped wreath made out of roses, and a cutout of Mamdani’s face flashing in and out of the screen in ironically cringey transitions.

The video garnered over one million views and 100,000 likes on Instagram, as well as comments from Pakistani actor Mehwish Hayat and singer Ali Sethi.

The Name is Mamdani- “M-A-M-D-A-N-I”

During the democratic primary debate, as the candidates discussed job experience, Cuomo repeatedly mispronounced Mamdani’s name and stated, “Experience matters, and I think inexperience is dangerous in this case.” Claiming that Mamdani had a staff of just five people but would need to manage a staff of 300,000.

He then listed various experiences that Mamdani lacked, such as dealing with unions and handling natural disasters. All this while Cuomo couldn’t do a simple research on how to pronounce his electoral rival’s name.

In response, Mamdani called attention to Cuomo’s controversial past, asserting that he was the better candidate for the job, despite Cuomo’s experience.

“To Mr. Cuomo: I have never had to resign in disgrace. I have never cut Medicaid. I have never stolen hundreds of millions of dollars from the MTA. I have never harassed the 13 women who credibly accused me of sexual harassment. I have never sued for their gynaecological records, and I have never done those things because I am not you, Mr. Cuomo.”

As if that wasn’t a significant moment, Mamdani further emphasised his point by teaching Cuomo how to pronounce his name correctly. “Furthermore, the name is Mamdani—M-A-M-D-A-N-I. You should learn how to say it.”

The Urdu Campaign With Bollywood References

As part of his social media campaign, Mamdani made an entire video explaining how people should vote, that too, IN URDU!

The video featured the iconic ‘Om Shaanti Om’ playing softly in the background, as Mamdani asks, “Tum ne kabhi kisi ko vote diya?” [Have you ever voted for anyone?] à la Rishi Kapoor in Karz.

Mamdani then uses mango lassi — because what could possibly be more South Asian than mangoes AND lassi — to explain how the rank-based election system works and urged his followers to rank every candidate.

He also told people what Cuomo is offering using the legendary Amitabh Bachan clip from Deewar; “Today I have a building, property, bank balance, bungalow, car. What do you have?” Instead of Shashi Kapoor, Mamdani himself pops up on screen and informs his supporters that he has them.

Zohran’s Campaign is More than Just Aesthetic

It’s easy to write this off as just good branding, but Mamdani’s campaign is grounded in democratic socialism and people-powered politics.

Zohran Mamdani is backed by the Working Families Party, has been endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, and has made it clear: He doesn’t serve landlords, lobbyists, or the status quo. And guess what? Gen Z loves that.

Weighing 235 g and measuring 10.85 mm thick, it feels substantial but up-to-date. The QWERTY keyboard also has touch-scrolling and shortcut functions. It’s a workhorse for productivity

Zinwa Q25: The Iconic Classic, Reborn

Zinwa Technologies has also revived the BlackBerry Classic as the Q25. It retains the 720×720 touchscreen and LED notification light. In terms of internal hardware, it receives a MediaTek Helio G99, 12 GB RAM, and 256 GB storage. The 3,000 mAh battery has all-day battery life.

It features a 50 MP rear camera, 8 MP front camera, USB-C, NFC, headphone jack, and 4G LTE. It comes with Android 13 in August for $400—or $300 if you upgrade your old Classic.

Zinwa Q25

Why this Matters

They take advantage of nostalgia, but they have contemporary specs. Physical keys, twin screens, and speedier chips come with it. All without sacrificing Android applications.

Gen Z and “digital detoxers” adore them. They abandon distraction-laden smartphones in lieu of easier, task-focused phones. At $269–$400, the phones are cheaper than flagship slabs and provide a workflow-first experience in one product.

The Future Outlook

No, BlackBerry isn’t releasing new phones officially, but startups such as Unihertz and Zinwa are stepping in. The Q25, Titan 2 could spearhead the move. Physical keyboards are niche. But they’re loved by writers, programmers, and productivity enthusiasts. These phones cut out meaningless scrolling. They introduce tactile pleasure.

Whether this phenomenon takes off is anyone’s guess. But for now, the new BlackBerry represents a return to concentrated design—with a dash of nostalgia.

These reborn BlackBerrys blend retro style with cutting-edge tech. They have physical keyboards, dual-screens, and hard-hitting performance. They’re not big on fluff but long on intention.

Nasir Iqbal, Noor Zaman Bag Silver at Asian Doubles Squash Championship

nasir-iqbal-noor-zaman-bag-silver-asian-doubles-squash-championship

In a showdown that had all the makings of a classic, Pakistan’s men’s doubles duo of Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal put up a spirited fight but narrowly missed out on gold, settling for silver at the Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2025 in Malaysia on Thursday.

The final wasn’t just about medals—it was a high-voltage clash between arch-rivals Pakistan and India, and it delivered every bit of drama expected from such a matchup.

A Final to Remember

Facing India’s top-seeded pair, Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar, the Pakistani team started strong, snatching the first game 11-9. The Indian duo, however, bounced back with back-to-back wins (11-5, 11-5), clinching the match 2-1 and successfully defending their title.

The intensity of the final was reflected in its duration—one hour and 27 minutes of high-octane squash, where momentum swung back and forth and every point was fiercely contested.

Road to the Final: A Gritty Run

Zaman and Iqbal’s campaign was nothing short of impressive. Their semifinal victory over hosts Malaysia was a nerve-wracking encounter that stretched to one hour and eight minutes. In that clash, they edged past Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee with scores of 10-11, 11-9, 11-9, showing remarkable composure under pressure.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, they battled past South Korea’s Jiang Min Ryu and Jaijin Yoo in yet another three-set thriller (11-3, 5-11, 11-4).

And in the group stage, the Pakistani pair were clinical. Their 11-minute demolition of Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-Wei and Chen Ching-Fu (11-2, 11-9) showcased their authority and confidence. They had already picked up dominant wins over the Philippines (11-7, 11-4) and South Korea, making them worthy finalists in every sense.

Noor Zaman’s Grit: More Than Just Medals

Individually, Noor Zaman’s journey deserves special mention. He had competed earlier in the Asian Individual Squash Championship, where he exited in the pre-quarters against Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah. Battling a painful back spasm, Noor showed resilience, coming back from two games down to level the match, before eventually running out of steam in the decider.

That match may have ended in defeat, but it underscored his fighting spirit—something that was evident throughout this doubles campaign as well.
