Official Dates Announced for Eidul Adha 2025 Holidays
Official Dates Announced for Eidul Adha 2025 Holidays

Authorities in Kuwait have confirmed the Eidul Adha 2025 holiday schedule after the sighting of the Dhul Qidah moon. As the 11th month of the Islamic calendar comes to a close, Dhul Hijjah will begin next, marking the Hajj pilgrimage and Eidul Adha celebrations.

The Council Ministers in Kuwait have declared a public holiday from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 8. These days coincide with the Day of Arafah and the Eidul Adha festivities. The country will also observe a rest day on Monday, June 9, and resume work on Tuesday, June 10.

Astronomers expect to sight the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah on May 27. If that happens, May 28 will be the first day of Dhul Hijjah in Kuwait. This would place the Day of Arafah on June 5 and Eidul Adha on June 6.

Eidul Adha in Pakistan

In Pakistan, Eidul Adha—a major celebration, especially cherished by children—is expected to fall on Saturday, June 7, 2025. However, the final date depends on the moon sighting.

If the crescent is visible as expected, Pakistan may observe holidays from Friday, June 6, to Sunday, June 8. Authorities might also declare Monday, June 9, as an additional holiday, pending official confirmation.

Eidul Adha, one of the most significant festivals in Islam, commemorates the profound sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and his son Hazrat Ismael (AS). Muslims worldwide celebrate it on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar.

International Labour Day 2025: A Reminder for the Better Care of Workers in Pakistan

International Labour Day 2025: A Reminder for the Better Care of Workers in Pakistan
International Labour Day 2025: A Reminder for the Better Care of Workers in Pakistan

Every year on May 1st, politicians in Pakistan make lofty speeches, companies post inspirational quotes, and labour unions hold rallies that barely scratch the surface of real change. International Labour Day, a symbol of hard-fought workers’ rights across the globe, has become a ceremonial event in Pakistan rather than a catalyst for progress. As we mark Labour Day in 2025, it’s time to confront the uncomfortable truth: we are failing our workers- systematically, repeatedly and shamefully.

More than a Holiday

Labour Day isn’t just a chance for a day off work or a parade of hollow promises. Its roots lie in blood and bravery, in the sacrifices of workers in Chicago in 1886, who dared to demand something as basic as an eight-hour workday. Their courage reshaped labuor laws around the world. In Pakistan, however, the spirit of this day is being smothered by apathy and indifference.

We love to declare ourselves a “labour-friendly” nation on paper, yet we tolerate an economic system that exploits the very hands that built it.

The Brutal Reality Behind the Labour Force

Take a hard look around: the majority of workers in Pakistan are overworked, underpaid, and barely protected. Whether it’s a child in a Lahore workshop polishing shoes or a woman in Karachi working 12 hours as a domestic servant with no legal rights, exploitation is the norm, not the exception.

Let’s talk numbers:

  • Millions earn below the minimum wage, a wage that can’t sustain a small family amid runaway inflation.

  • Workplace safety is a joke, with barely any inspections, zero accountability, and tragic accidents that fade quickly from the headlines.

  • Women are chronically underpaid, sexually harassed, and pushed out of the workforce after marriage or motherhood, with almost no meaningful legal recourse.

  • Labour unions are weak, often undermined by corporate pressure and government apathy, reduced to token protests that barely inconvenience the status quo.

And the informal sector? It’s free-for-all where workers have no contracts, no rights, and no future. They are invisible to the system, yet they carry it on their shoulders.

The Empty Promise of Reform

Every few years, we hear whispers of labour reform — new laws, better protections, digital registrations. But the truth is, reform without enforcement is just theater. What good is a law that says domestic workers must be paid fairly when no one is checking whether that law is followed? What use is a promise of “safe working conditions” when factory owners cut corners for profit, and regulators look the other way?

Read More: India-Pakistan Tensions Reach a Boiling Point: What’s Actually at Stake?

Pakistan doesn’t need more policies. It needs political courage and moral clarity. It needs to stop treating workers like disposable tools and start treating them as human beings with dignity and rights.

What Needs to Change — Now

This Labour Day, instead of empty slogans, we need:

  • Serious enforcement of minimum wage laws and workplace safety standards.

  • Universal legal recognition and protection for informal sector workers, including domestic workers, construction labourers, and freelancers.

  • Robust unionisation, with real legal backing and freedom from political interference.

  • Equal pay for equal work, with real penalties for discrimination and harassment.

  • Government accountability, not photo-ops.

Let’s be clear: a country that cannot take care of its workers has no moral claim to development or prosperity.

Labour Day 2025: A Wake-Up Call

The time for polite statements and ceremonial breakfasts is over. Labour Day 2025 should be a wake-up call to every employer, policymaker, and citizen: if we continue to treat workers as disposable, we are building a nation on exploitation, not on justice. Workers are not asking for favours; they are demanding their owed dignity, safety, fair wages, and a future.

Michael Bolton Talks About Glioblastoma Diagnosis And His Fight Against Brain Cancer

Michael Bolton Talks About Glioblastoma Diagnosis And His Fight Against Brain Cancer

Michael Bolton recently shared his battle with glioblastoma, a serious type of brain cancer, in an emotional interview with People magazine. The 72-year-old Grammy-winning singer, who sold over 75 million records during his 50-year career, got diagnosed in December 2023 after doctors performed emergency brain surgery to remove a tumor.

His doctor, Dr. Ingo Mellinghoff from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, explained that doctors fully remove tumors in only 30 to 40 percent of glioblastoma cases. That makes Bolton’s recovery impressive. He underwent a second surgery in January 2024 because of an infection. He also completed radiation and chemotherapy. A recent MRI scan in April showed no sign of the tumor coming back.

Bolton refuses to give up. “Succumbing to the challenge is not an option. You’re really quickly drawn into a duel. I guess that’s the way you find out what you’re made of,” he said. He relies on humor and inner strength to stay positive. Even though the treatments affected his speech, memory, and movement, he keeps pushing forward.

He even sang shortly after his surgery. His daughter Holly, 47, shared, “I remember one of the nurses had no idea who he was, and she’s like, ‘Do you know he sings like this?’” His other daughters, Isa, 49, and Taryn, 45, also continue to stand by him and help lift his spirits.

Bolton lives in Westport, Connecticut, and stays busy with activities that comfort him. He meditates daily, plays golf, and attends voice therapy. He also spends quality time with his six grandchildren during family trivia nights.

Bolton now views his legacy in a new light. He no longer sees his career alone as his legacy. Instead, he values the life lessons and love he gives his daughters. He said, “I think we develop capabilities and problem management, and we learn how to make the best out of a bad situation.”

He remains strong and hopeful. “I want to keep going. I feel there’s still a lot to do on the fight side,” he said. With a smile, he added, “I got a title for a song: ‘Ain’t Going Down Without a Fight.’”

PAF Forces 4 Indian Rafales to Retreat While Patrolling Over Kashmir

PAF Forces 4 Indian Rafales to Retreat While Patrolling Over Kashmir

On the night between April 29 and 30, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) detected four Indian Rafale fighter jets near the Line of Control (LoC). These jets were patrolling over Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In response, PAF launched a swift and coordinated move, which forced the Indian aircraft to retreat.

This encounter occurred during a period of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India. The situation worsened after a deadly attack in Pahalgam, IIOJK, on April 22. The assault claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, making it one of the most severe attacks in the region since 2000.

The day after the attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). This landmark agreement, brokered by the World Bank, had withstood decades of conflict. In retaliation, Pakistan threatened to suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement and warned of a possible airspace closure to Indian flights.

Although India hinted at cross-border involvement in the Pahalgam attack, it has not provided any solid evidence. Meanwhile, Pakistan firmly denied any role in the incident. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for an independent investigation to uncover the truth.

On April 30, Information Minister Atta Tarar shared a concerning update. He stated that Pakistan had credible intelligence suggesting a possible Indian military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours. According to him, India could use the Pahalgam attack as a justification for aggression.

Furthermore, the minister strongly criticised India’s stance. He said that India was acting as a “self-assigned judge, jury, and executioner,” which he described as reckless and destabilising. He added that Pakistan, having suffered from terrorism itself, understands the deep impact of such violence. Therefore, he urged all parties to exercise restraint and focus on preserving regional peace.

Lahore Introduces Traffic Kiosks to Simplify Licensing and Public Access

Lahore Traffic Police has launched a new plan to improve public services and provide better working conditions for traffic wardens. As the first step, they have set up modern traffic kiosks at busy intersections across the city.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr Athar Waheed stated that they installed the first kiosk at Afshan Chowk on Mall Road. This kiosk now offers key services, including issuing motorbike licences and collecting driving licences. “All traffic-related services will be accessible at these kiosks, making the system more citizen-friendly,” said Dr Waheed.

He explained that the goal is to make traffic services more accessible while also shielding on-duty wardens from extreme weather. The kiosks feature air conditioning, drinking water, and rest areas to support wardens in staying safe and comfortable while working.

The team has also equipped each kiosk with a loudspeaker system for making traffic announcements. Traffic wardens will work in three shifts to keep services available 24/7.

Dr Waheed added that the department drew inspiration for this project from traffic systems in developed countries. They plan to expand the kiosks gradually throughout Lahore. After Afshan Chowk, the next locations include Mall Road, Gulberg, and Iqbal Town.

SP Headquarters, Mansoor-ul-Hassan, is overseeing the project under the Chief Minister of Punjab’s directives.

This initiative by Lahore Traffic Police aims to provide faster services to citizens and help wardens carry out their duties more efficiently and safely.

As the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) finalises its coaching lineup ahead of a packed international calendar, Azhar declared in a recent interview, “I’m definitely going to apply for the Pakistan team head coach role.”

Currently serving as an assistant coach, Azhar already plays a key role in Pakistan’s coaching setup. Marvel’s Thunderbolts is Scrappy and Grounded — and One of the Studio’s Best

Marvel’s Thunderbolts is Scrappy and Grounded — and One of the Studio’s Best
Marvel’s Thunderbolts is Scrappy and Grounded — and One of the Studio’s Best

Marvel Studios keeps building its cinematic universe in thrilling ways. One of the upcoming projects that has been building a lot of buzz is Thunderbolts. The movie has the potential to offer a different taste from some of the recent cosmic blockbusters. Initial reports indicate a “scrappy and grounded” direction. This emphasis might make it one of the studio’s freshest and possibly best Phase 5 or 6 entries.

A Different Kind of Team

The Thunderbolts roster in the comics also tends to include anti-heroes and former villains. They are on missions with government oversight. The lineup confirmed for the movie is in keeping with this idea. We would anticipate seeing players such as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova/Black Widow (Florence Pugh), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s fascinating Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine must be the mastermind behind it all. Indeed, this cast has multi-dimensional characters, some working in moral grey zones.

Grounded Action and Character Focus

Director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige have focused on a grounded tone. Unlike universe-threatening evils, the stakes may feel more personal and localised. The “scrappy” label indicates a group that is not highly refined or geared up like the Avengers. They could be underfunded, ideologically torn apart, and required to make do with grit and dubious tactics. This setup invites more character study. Viewers can explore the motivations and interplay of these flawed individuals coerced into being a team. We may experience elements of redemption, coercion, and conflict between innate nature and assigned responsibility.

Why it Could be Great

The emphasis on character and grounded style provides a welcome respite from the pace of the MCU. Movies such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier proved Marvel could do well in this kind of thriller-adjacent territory. Schreier’s past work also indicates a talent for character-driven narratives. By focusing on established but nuanced characters and eschewing strictly CGI-based spectacle, Thunderbolts can provide a gripping, character-driven narrative. It might venture into the MCU’s dark alleys and give its interesting cast some rewarding arcs. If it honours its “scrappy and grounded” vow, it might very well be one of the studio’s best recent endeavours.

Is Shah Rukh Khan Entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Is Shah Rukh Khan Entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Is Shah Rukh Khan Entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) keeps growing, adding new heroes and villains. Fans love speculating about upcoming additions. One enduring rumour is that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) might join the franchise. Is there any credibility to this tantalising possibility?

Is Shah Rukh Khan Entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Is Shah Rukh Khan Entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The Origin of the Rumours

News of Shah Rukh Khan joining the MCU tends to emerge on the internet, especially on fan discussion boards and social media. These rumours sometimes take hold, particularly when Marvel makes a project announcement with a diverse cast or an international backdrop. SRK’s international stardom and charismatic on-screen presence makes him a very tempting hypothetical addition to many fans. Periodically, unofficial hints by Marvel executives that they would like to work with Indian talent or SRK himself voicing general praise for Marvel movies create further speculation. Solid evidence is in short supply.

Read More: Kim Kardashian Robbery Case: Major Suspect Dies Mysteriously in Paris

Lack of Official Confirmation

Regardless of the frequent online chatter, Marvel Studios and Shah Rukh Khan (or his team) have never once publicly announced any discussions or casting. Marvel officially reveals significant casting decisions via formal avenues such as press releases or large industry gatherings (e.g., San Diego Comic-Con, D23 Expo). No such release about SRK has taken place. While hidden negotiations might exist, the total lack of serious reports in prominent trade journals proves the rumours highly speculative.

Possible Roles and Fan Casting

If SRK were to enter the MCU, what character would he play? There are many fan theories, ranging from wise mentors to cosmic powerful beings or even intelligent villains. His range permits a lot of scope. Unfortunately, without official grounds, these remain fan fantasies only. Marvel tends to prefer casting actors capable of signing for multi-picture deals, which could be a factor while casting a global superstar with a packed schedule like Khan.

The Verdict: Probably Just Rumours (For Now)

While the prospect of Shah Rukh Khan’s star power in the MCU excites fans globally, the situation currently is that it’s merely speculation and wishful thinking. There are no reliable sources to support his casting. Fans must not take these rumours seriously until Marvel Studios makes a public announcement. It remains a cool “what if” scenario rather than an announced plan.

India-Pakistan Tensions Reach a Boiling Point: What’s Actually at Stake?

India-Pakistan Tensions Reach a Boiling Point: What's Actually at Stake?
India-Pakistan Tensions Reach a Boiling Point: What's Actually at Stake?

The relationship between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan continues to be tense. Developments in late April 2025 represented a major escalation, and concerns regarding regional stability were raised. Understanding the key issues and potential outcomes is crucial.

Recent Flashpoints

In response to a deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India made several unprecedented moves. New Delhi blamed the attack on cross-border Pakistani elements. India countered by suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with immediate effect. The treaty, which regulated the sharing of waters for more than six decades, had weathered earlier wars. The treaty, India said, would be “in abeyance” until Pakistan took measures against terrorism. At the same time, India closed the vital Atari-Wagah border point to all traffic. It also sent some Pakistani defence attaches packing and issued cuts in diplomatic personnel at the respective High Commissions.

India-Pakistan Tensions Reach a Boiling Point
India-Pakistan Tensions Reach a Boiling Point

The Immediate Stakes: Water, Trade, Diplomacy

The suspension of IWT generates instant uncertainty about water resources. Although India cannot halt western river flows physically overnight, suspending treaty commitments such as data exchange creates long-term apprehension about water-reliant Pakistan. Closing Atari borders interrupts direct land exchange and drastically curtails people-to-people contact. Downgrading diplomatic relations decreases avenues of communication and conflict resolution even further for the two countries. All these steps individually and collectively convey a drastic decline in relations, beyond earlier diplomatic demonstrations.

Greater Regional Stability

The basic issue remains the long-standing Kashmir conflict and charges of cross-border terrorism. These latest tensions threaten to raise further instability in an already unstable region. Miscalculation or future aggressive actions might have perilous implications, as both nations are nuclear-capable. The failure of formal treaties and diplomatic conventions creates a disturbing precedent. It has the potential to engage other regional actors or outside international bodies that are interested in peace and security in South Asia.

Economic and Human Costs

Increased tensions necessarily affect economies. Lowered trade, possible investment chill, and heightened military preparedness draw resources away from development. The human cost is also considerable. Cut-off travel connections harm families separated by the border. A climate of hostility affects citizens on both sides. Finally, the present escalation emphasises the tenuous nature of peace in the area. Identifying avenues back to dialogue and de-escalation is imperative to prevent further conflict and instability. The stakes are not merely bilateral relations, but South Asian peace and prosperity.

Modi Removes Lt Gen Kumar After Refusal to Launch Strike on Pakistan

Modi Removes Lt Gen Kumar After Refusal to Launch Strike on Pakistan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi removes Lt Gen Kumar from his post after he allegedly declined to initiate a military operation against Pakistan. Serving as the Northern Commander at the time, Kumar was said to have received orders to respond militarily following a suspected false flag operation. His refusal to act allegedly led to his dismissal.

The Indian government has strongly rejected these allegations. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) dismissed the narrative as misinformation. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), PIB stated,

“Several pro-Pakistan social media accounts falsely claim that Northern Commander Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar has been removed from his post after the Pahalgam incident.”

Official Reason

According to PIB’s fact-check, Kumar had reached the age of retirement, and his exit had been scheduled for April 30. The military had already planned to appoint a successor. Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma was named as his replacement and was scheduled to assume command on May 1.

Sharma Faces Scrutiny

After the appointment notice was issued, Lt Gen Sharma held a meeting with army personnel. During the session, several officers questioned him about recent security failures, particularly the deadly Pahalgam attack. Sources say Sharma struggled to provide satisfactory responses, which added to concerns within the ranks.

Tensions Mount After Pahalgam Attack

The April 22 attack in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 individuals, most of them tourists. It stands as one of the deadliest incidents in the region in recent years. India has hinted at cross-border links but hasn’t produced concrete evidence. Meanwhile, Pakistan has firmly denied involvement and urged for an independent investigation.

Pakistan May Hit 50°C Again Amid Severe April Heatwave

Pakistan May Hit 50°C Again Amid Severe April Heatwave
Pakistan May Hit 50°C Again Amid Severe April Heatwave

A strong heatwave is sweeping across South Asia, and forecasts suggest that Pakistan might hit 50 degrees Celsius again — a record previously set in April 2018 by Nawabshah. The Washington Post reported that temperatures in central and southern Pakistan touched 47°C last weekend, showing signs of even higher temperatures this week.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave warning for April 26 to 30, urging people to take precautions. A strong high-pressure system is causing the heat, acting like a lid and trapping hot air across a wide region from the Middle East to South Asia.

Weather historian Maximiliano Herrera confirmed that Nawabshah’s 2018 temperature remains the highest April reading in Asia. He also noted a 51°C reading in Santa Rosa, Mexico, in 2001, but said that it might not be reliable.

This extreme heat is consistent with climate change, as April temperatures have risen sharply in recent years across this region. According to forecasts, the heat in Pakistan will peak on Wednesday and Thursday. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), known for its accuracy, predicts around 48°C in central Pakistan. It had slightly underestimated last weekend’s heat, so real temperatures could be higher, possibly nearing the 50°C mark again.

This heatwave isn’t limited to Pakistan. Temperatures are expected to cross 43°C in 21 countries this week, including Iran, India, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Sudan, Qatar, Mauritania, South Sudan, Oman, Bahrain, Mali, Senegal, Chad, Ethiopia, Niger, Nigeria, Eritrea and Burkina Faso.

The hot air mass will shift eastward towards China later in the week. A new wave of heat is also expected to rise in Central Asia, especially in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, where temperatures may reach over 37°C.

Pakistan’s current temperatures are already more than four degrees above the April average. Iraq recently recorded 46°C, its highest ever for April. The UAE matched this record, while Niger saw a national record of 45°C. Turkmenistan experienced temperatures more than seven degrees above normal.

Globally, 63% of the planet saw above-average temperatures this April, while only 37% were cooler. A total of 116 countries recorded warmer-than-usual weather. Although a strong El Niño ended earlier this year, the expected cooling from La Niña hasn’t appeared. The first three months of 2025 have been the second-warmest globally, after 2024.

As Mother’s Day Nears, Let’s Take a Look at the Iconic Mothers of Pakistani Entertainment

As Mother’s Day Nears, Let's Take a Look at the Iconic Mothers of Pakistani Entertainment
As Mother’s Day Nears, Let's Take a Look at the Iconic Mothers of Pakistani Entertainment

As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s hard not to reflect on the women who have shaped our lives with silent strength, unyielding love and boundless sacrifice.

In Pakistan, television dramas are more than just entertainment, but a way to represent the nation and its unsung heroes. These dramas have birthed some of the most unforgettable characters of motherhood, reflecting the struggles and emotions of real mothers across the country.

These on-screen mothers aren’t just fictional portrayals, they are reflections of the mothers in our society. Mothers who are sometimes idealised, sometimes flawed, but always deeply human.

So, here are all the iconic mothers of the Pakistani Entertainment industry that deserve our praise:

Sajida Bibi in Udaari: A Mother’s Courage in the Face of Evil

Samiya Mumtaz’s portrayal of Sajida Bibi in Udaari was truly one of the strongest characters shown in Pakistani dramas. Sajida was not just a mother; she was a warrior. When her daughter was raped by the very man she trusted, Sajida did what many mothers in our society are afraid to do: she stood up, spoke out, and fought back.

Her pain was palpable, but so was her strength. Through her, Udaari challenged deeply ingrained taboos and showed that a mother’s love can be revolutionary too. Sajida became a beacon of hope for countless women who have endured pain in silence.

She showed how simple women can turn the world upside down when their children are at stake. It was an open message to the mothers of our nation to be the strength of their daughters.

Bilqees in Bilqees Kaur: A Matriarchal Woman of Steel

Played with unforgettable grace by Bushra Ansari, Bilqees in Bilqees Kaur was a strict, religious matriarch living in New York. The character was the perfect example of the fear of identity and respect being lost in society. It is a concept very prevalent among adults in Pakistan.

Bilqees Kaur strongly believed in the ‘spare the rod, spoil the child’ mentality and tried desperately to preserve her cultural roots. Often at the cost of her children’s happiness. Although Bilquees cuts a domineering figure, her past explains her bitterness. Having eloped with Iqbal and converted to Islam in her youth, she is eaten up by the guilt of her decisions and thus becomes adamant to instill traditional values in her children.

Behind that rigid exterior was just a mother who was full of fear. Her journey is the literal representation of the mothers of our nation who want the best for their children and often overlook the need to be soft and present.

Saliha in Dastaan: A Mother Torn by Partition

Who can forget Samina Peerzada’s haunting portrayal of Saliha in Dastaan? Set against the backdrop of Partition, Dastaan gave us a mother who lived through history’s most painful fracture and tried to hold her family together in the midst of it. This mother sacrificed her and honour for her daughter and died in the process it.

Saliha’s portrayal wasn’t just personal — it was national. Saliha’s grief, dignity and longing spoke to all those women who’ve lost children to war, migration and time. She’s amazing example to all mothers this Mother’s Day.

Farida in Humsafar : The Mother Who Loved too Fiercely

Perhaps one of the most talked-about maternal characters is Farida, played by Atiqa Odho in Humsafar. The character of Farida wasn’t the archetypal nurturing mother; she was ambitious, controlling and desperate to keep her son to herself.

And yet, as much as viewers loved to hate her, Farida was a reflection of the types of mothers that exist in our society. These mothers love so deeply that it turns into fear and possessiveness. Her fiery delivery of dialogues like ‘Woh mere Ashar k qabil nahi hai!’ and ‘Main usko doodh me makhi ki tarhan nikal dongi’! matched her obsession with perfection for her son.

Her character sparked debate, but more than that, it sparked recognition. Just how willing mothers can be to get the best for their children, even if it makes them a villain.

Rafia in Zindagi Gulzar Hai – Quiet Strength and Unshakable Faith

Rafia, portrayed beautifully by Samina Peerzada in Zindagi Gulzar Hai, is the epitome of quiet strength. Abandoned by her husband and left to raise three daughters on her own, Rafia never once lets bitterness cloud her vision.

Instead, she empowered her daughters, especially Kashaf. She taught her to rise above their circumstances. She nurtured independence, confidence, and self-worth in her daughters.

Rafia’s quiet faith in her children and her unwavering dignity in the face of life’s injustices make her a character who continues to resonate deeply with viewers, especially, with real-life mothers who have suffered storms in silence.

Why These Mothers Matter

What makes these characters unforgettable isn’t just the performances — it’s how they speak to our collective experience. Pakistani mothers are often expected to be saints and martyrs, wise and selfless. But these dramas show us that mothers are also just humans with flaws, fears, dreams and heartbreaks.

The mothers of Pakistani television may be fictional, but their emotional truths are real. They taught us empathy. They made us cry. They helped us forgive. And maybe, just maybe, they helped us see our own mothers a little more clearly.

Happy Mother’s Day in Advance!

Meta Launches Llama API Aiming to Attract AI Development Talent

Meta Platforms has launched a new API for its Llama AI models, aiming to attract developers and companies seeking customisable AI tools. The company made this announcement during its first AI developer conference, underscoring its intent to compete with Openai, Google, and emerging players like China’s DeepSeek.

“You can now start using Llama with one line of code,” said Chris Cox, Meta’s Chief Product Officer. The Llama API is currently in limited preview, but Meta plans to expand access in the coming months.

Although Meta hasn’t revealed pricing details yet, it continues to offer Llama largely for free. This strategy supports Meta’s broader push to drive innovation and increase Llama’s integration into its ecosystem. During the event, Meta also introduced a standalone AI assistant app and confirmed plans to test a paid AI chatbot subscription in the second quarter of the year.

Executives emphasised the flexibility of their models. Manohar Paluri, Meta’s Vice President of AI, stated, “Whatever model you customise is yours to take wherever you want, not locked on our servers.” This allows users to build and move their models freely, without being confined to Meta’s infrastructure.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg also spoke at the event. He explained that Meta’s open model approach reduces the industry’s dependency on a few major AI players. “If another model, like DeepSeek, is better at something, you can now combine the best intelligence from multiple models,” he said.

Meta’s latest version of Llama boasts faster performance and lower costs. The company is positioning it as a more affordable and developer-friendly option in the increasingly competitive AI landscape.

With this API launch, Meta is betting that openness and flexibility will drive adoption, inspire innovation, and boost engagement across its platforms.

The Miike Factor: Master of the Macabre

Takashi Miike, widely acclaimed in cult film culture for off-putting classics such as Audition and Ichi the Killer, offers a high-level pedigree of provocative storytelling. With more than 100 films in a variety of genres—spanning horror and yakuza action, through dark comedies—Miike is synonymous with his refusal to shy away from violence and the surreal. Sham, his new film, is already slated to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.

This is the second film through Charli’s production company, Studio365. Her first, The Moment, is an A24 feature in which she also has a lead role. Her producing role indicates a greater creative investment than merely acting. With Brat reshaping her image and influence, Charli XCX is evidently broadening her artistic scope across media.

What We Know About the Film

Details remain tightly guarded, but the film’s script is being written by Ross Evans, known for How to Save a Marriage, currently in development with Robert Pattinson attached as producer. Given Miike’s track record, fans can expect a project that’s visceral, unpredictable, and far from mainstream.

A Summer of Shock and Stardom

With Takashi Miike’s visionary sensibilities and Charli XCX’s bold imagination, this new project has the potential to be the moment of 2025 cinema. Whether a cult classic in the works or a genre push gone rogue, one thing is for sure—Takashi Miike summer is arriving, and Charli XCX is not here to play.

Flops of the Season: The Most Disappointing Performances in PSL 10

Source: ESPN

PSL 10 was expected to be the milestone season commemorating a decade of T20 cricket in the country. However, it was tainted by disappointing performances of star players and teams, sparking widespread dismay across fans and observers.

Multan Sultans: A Season to Forget

Multan Sultans, under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan, went into PSL 10 with much expectation. Though they had a good team, the team struggled at the bottom of the points table, securing just one win in their first five games. Rizwan blamed the poor show for fielding errors and a lack of momentum. The team’s woes were further exacerbated by internal conflicts, such as a heated argument between Rizwan and teammate Iftikhar Ahmed during a game.

Mohammad Rizwan: Captaincy Under the Microscope

Rizwan’s captaincy was criticised as the Sultans were unable to give consistent performances. His decision to remove himself from wicketkeeping responsibilities was regarded by some as a tactical ploy to concentrate on captaincy , yet it did nothing to alter the fortune of the team. His tactics and ability to motivate the team under pressure were criticised by critics.

Babar Azam: A Star Fades

Peshawar Zalmi skipper Babar Azam also came in for criticism for his patchy performances. During a highly rated match, he was bowled out for a duck by Mohammad Amir, indicating how things had gone wrong for him in the competition. People were disappointed as much was expected from the run-scoring specialist.

Karachi Kings: Leadership Changes Fail to Inspire in PSL 10

Karachi Kings changed leadership prior to the tournament, naming David Warner captain. With the change, the team never gained momentum and ended up low in the standings. Warner’s captaincy didn’t translate to better performances, and fans became frustrated.

Pakistan Super League 10 was also hit by issues off the pitch. The overlap of the tournament schedule with the Indian Premier League (IPL) also resulted in many star players not able to commit like Kane Williamson. Although there were claims of higher digital viewership, the absence of live crowds killed the atmosphere of the tournament.

PSL 10, which was planned as a decadal celebration of cricket, became a season of letdowns. Underperforming sides, leadership issues, and extraneous factors led to a tournament that did not live up to the hype. With the league now looking towards the future, tackling these issues will be imperative in order to bring back its glory and provide the thrill the fans have grown accustomed to.
