The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the coaching staff for the T20I series against New Zealand, with former fast bowler Azhar Mahmood leading the team as head coach.
The five-match series is scheduled to take place from April 18 to April 27, the matches will be held in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
Azhar Mahmood, a seasoned campaigner who represented Pakistan in 164 internationals, has previously served as the national team’s bowling coach from 2016 to 2019. His experience and expertise make him a valuable addition to the coaching setup.
The former allrounder has taken 162 wickets and scored 2,421 runs during his playing career. He has also served as the bowling coach of Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Islamabad United.
Notably, former South African batsman Gary Kirsten and ex-Australian paceman Jason Gillespie are reportedly close to finalizing their roles as white-ball and red-ball head coaches, respectively. However, until the formalities are completed, Mahmood will lead the coaching team.
Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the senior team manager, while Mohammad Yousuf will take on the role of batting coach. Both Riaz and Yousuf also serve on Pakistan’s selection committee.
Saeed Ajmal, renowned for his spin bowling prowess, will continue his role as the spin bowling coach, bringing his invaluable insights to the team.
The series against New Zealand will see three T20Is hosted at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on April 18, 20, and 21, followed by two matches in Lahore on April 25 and 27.
