PCB Clears the Air on Missing Indian Flag at Champions Trophy 2025 Venues

pcb-on-missing-indian-flag-at-champions-trophy-2025

There’s been quite a buzz surrounding the absence of the Indian flag at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Rumors and speculations started flying after a video surfaced, showing flags of all participating teams being hoisted at the venue—except for India’s.

Naturally, people began to wonder: was this a deliberate snub by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in response to India’s decision to play their Champions Trophy matches in the UAE instead of Pakistan?

The Clarification

Well, the PCB has now stepped in to put those rumors to rest. According to official reports, it turns out the omission of the Indian flag was not intentional at all. Instead, it’s a directive from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Read More: India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Jersey Unveiled Featuring Pakistan’s Name

A PCB spokesperson explained the situation, saying, “The ICC has advised that only four flags will be hoisted on Champions Trophy 2025 match days: ICC, PCB, and the two competing teams.” That’s it—no hidden agendas or political motives behind the decision.

Since India won’t be playing any of their matches in Pakistan, their flag won’t be displayed at any of the three venues—Karachi, Lahore, or Rawalpindi. It’s as simple as that.

The Big Picture

While this explanation clears up the confusion, the larger picture is still exciting. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is just days away from kicking off, and the tournament is set to be an epic spectacle.

Pakistan, the host and defending champions, will take on New Zealand in the opening match on February 19 at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.

This year’s tournament will feature 15 matches over 19 days, spread across Pakistan and Dubai. In Pakistan, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore will host the games, with Lahore also playing home to the second semi-final and the grand final on March 9.

But here’s the twist—if India qualifies for the final, the game will be moved to Dubai.

Lockie Ferguson Ruled Out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

lockie-ferguson-ruled-out-of-icc-champions-trophy-2025

New Zealand’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign has hit a major roadblock before it even started. Speedster Lockie Ferguson is out due to a foot injury. And with the tournament starting tomorrow, the timing couldn’t be worse.

The Injury Blow

Ferguson’s injury happened during the warm-up match against Afghanistan in Karachi. After bowling a spell, he felt pain in his right foot. The initial medical check confirmed the bad news—he won’t recover in time for the tournament.

With the Champions Trophy being a short tournament, there was no choice but to send him back home for rehab. For New Zealand fans, this is tough to swallow. Ferguson’s express pace and ability to rattle batters in crucial moments made him a key part of the Blackcaps’ bowling attack.

Enter Kyle Jamieson

But every cloud has a silver lining, right? Kyle Jamieson is stepping in to fill the big shoes left by Ferguson. Jamieson will fly out to Pakistan tonight, bringing some hope to the Kiwis.

The tall pacer recently made a strong comeback to domestic cricket after a long 10-month break due to a back stress fracture. Now, he’s ready to make his mark on the international stage again.

Coach Stead’s Take

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead didn’t hide his disappointment. “We’re really disappointed for Lockie,” he admitted. “He’s a key part of our bowling attack and brings valuable experience in major tournaments.”

But Stead is optimistic about Jamieson’s inclusion. “Kyle brings extra pace and bounce, which will be effective in these conditions,” he said. “He’s been bowling with great energy since his return and has shown his ability in the shorter formats.”

The Blackcaps will kick off their Champions Trophy journey against Pakistan tomorrow at the newly renovated National Bank Stadium in Karachi. This match is already a high-stakes battle, and without Ferguson, New Zealand’s bowling attack will be tested.

After Pakistan, they face Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 24. Then, it’s the big one against India in Dubai on March 2.

Losing Ferguson is a blow, no doubt. But cricket is unpredictable, and New Zealand has always been a team that fights till the end. With Jamieson’s raw pace and the experience of players like Williamson and Santner, they still have a strong shot at the trophy.

India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Jersey Unveiled Featuring Pakistan’s Name

india-champions-trophy-2025-jersey-pakistan-name

The BCCI has finally unveiled the jersey of Team India for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and yes—it features the host country’s name, Pakistan, after all the buzz and drama.

The Big Reveal

The new jersey, revealed through Team India’s official Instagram page, shows captain Rohit Sharma, along with Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh, proudly sporting the fresh kit. And there it is—‘Pakistan’ printed with the tournament’s logo on the right side of the jersey. It’s official, and it’s here.

The Controversy That Had Everyone Talking

For weeks, the cricket world was buzzing with rumors. Indian media reports suggested that the BCCI planned to omit Pakistan’s name from the team’s jersey. This sparked debates, tweets, and heated discussions across both nations.

After all, a Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan and the UAE without the host nation’s name on India’s kit? It sounded too controversial to be true.

Thankfully, the ICC stepped in to clear the air. They reminded everyone that it’s mandatory for all participating teams to display the tournament’s official logo—which includes the host country’s name. No exceptions.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia soon confirmed that Team India would comply with ICC guidelines and will sport the name of Pakistan on their Champions Trophy jersey. And they did.

India’s Champions Trophy 2025 Journey

Now that the jersey saga is over, let’s focus on the action ahead. India kicks off its Champions Trophy campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh. But let’s be honest—the match everyone is waiting for is on February 23. India vs Pakistan. Arch-rivals. Hosts vs neighbors. It doesn’t get bigger than this.

After facing Pakistan, India will take on New Zealand on March 2 to wrap up the group stage. With a strong squad and high stakes, every game will be crucial.

According to xAI researchers, Grok 3 surpasses other AI models in terms of performance. Even its smaller variant, Grok 3 Mini, is proving to be highly competitive at the top level. “At xAI, we believe that having the best pre-training model is not enough to create the best AI. The best AI needs to think like a human. If you’re using Grok 3, you may notice improvements almost every day because we are constantly working on enhancing the model. In fact, you might even see changes within 24 hours,” they said.

The xAI team emphasised the importance of considering multiple solutions, self-criticism, verification, backtracking and applying first-principles thinking in AI development. “You need to consider all possible solutions, self-critique, verify them, backtrack and think from first principles. This is a crucial skill. We believe that by taking the best pre-trained model and further training it with reinforcement learning, we can enhance its reasoning abilities. This allows the model to improve significantly and scale, not just during training but also during testing,” the xAI team said.

FDA Recognizes Zyn’s Role in Public Health by Helping Smokers Switch

FDA ensures that authorized products meet stringent safety and quality standards, providing consumers with better alternatives.

The world is witnessing a transformation in tobacco control strategies, with harm reduction emerging as a key approach. The recent authorization of Zyn nicotine pouches by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reflects a growing recognition that offering better alternatives to smokers can significantly reduce the public health burden. However, Pakistan, a country grappling with one of the highest smoking rates in the world, has yet to adapt to this global shift.

With over 25 million tobacco users and more than 160,000 deaths annually linked to smoking-related diseases, Pakistan faces a severe health crisis. The financial impact is equally alarming. Despite these figures, harm reduction remains largely absent from Pakistan’s tobacco control policies, leaving smokers with few viable alternatives.

Nicotine pouches such as Zyn and Velo are already present in Pakistan, but their status remains ambiguous due to a lack of regulatory oversight. In contrast, the U.S. FDA ensures that authorized products meet stringent safety and quality standards, providing consumers with better alternatives. Without a regulatory framework, Pakistan risks exposing consumers to unregulated products while missing an opportunity to integrate harm reduction into its public health policies

Some European countries offer a successful model of harm reduction in action, by promoting better nicotine alternatives, reducing its smoking rates to just 4.5%. The FDA’s authorization of Zyn aligns with this global movement, reinforcing the importance of regulation in providing smokers with better options.

For Pakistan, the question is not whether harm reduction works, but whether it is willing to implement policies that support it. Introducing a regulatory framework for nicotine pouches could help millions of smokers transition away from traditional cigarettes, ultimately reducing the country’s health and economic burden.

As other nations move ahead with progressive tobacco control strategies, Pakistan’s hesitation keeps it lagging behind. The global shift towards harm reduction is evident—now, it remains to be seen whether Pakistan will embrace this change or continue relying on outdated approaches.

Shakira Hospitalised, Cancells Peru Concert

Shakira Hospitalized, Cancels Peru Concert

Shakira has been hospitalised due to an abdominal issue, forcing her to cancel her highly anticipated concert in Peru. The pop star shared the news with her fans on Instagram, expressing her regret over the situation. She wrote in an Instagram story, “I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalised.” Her doctors advised her against performing at the National Stadium in Peru. Her health was not in a condition to take the stage that evening.

“I am very sad not to be able to take the stage today,” Shakira continued. She emphasised how much she had been looking forward to performing for her fans in Peru. While she expressed her disappointment, she also hoped to recover soon and return to perform at her second Lima show.

Shakira reassured her fans that her team and the concert promoters were working on rescheduling the event. “They are already working on a new date to communicate to you,” she said. She ended the statement with love for her followers and signed off simply as “Shak.”

Tour in Rio de Janeiro

Although Shakira did not provide further details about her health condition, the news comes just days after she kicked off her tour in Rio de Janeiro on February 11. The ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ album, which she is promoting on the tour, earned her a Grammy Award earlier this month. At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Shakira won Best Latin Pop Album, marking her first album in seven years.

During her acceptance speech, she dedicated the award to “all my immigrant brothers and sisters” and to “all of those women who work really hard every day to provide for their families.”

Big Bollywood Music Labels Seek to Challenge OpenAI in India Copyright Lawsuit

Big Bollywood Music Labels Seek to Challenge OpenAI in India Copyright Lawsuit

Where OpenAI is a major resource to many, for the creative industry, it’s posing a threat that has not been seen in years. Recently, India’s leading Bollywood music companies, T-Series, Saregama and Sony, filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in New Delhi. The lawsuit posed serious questions about the use of copyrighted material by AI and will determine the future of intellectual property rights under AI. It reflects concerns about training AI models on humongous amounts of publicly available material without requisite permission.

A Growing Legal Battle

The lawsuit, filed by the Indian Music Industry (IMI) group and leading music labels, argues that OpenAI’s AI models unlawfully use sound recordings, lyrics and compositions to train their algorithms. This case follows a similar lawsuit from Indian news agency ANI, which accused OpenAI of utilising its copyrighted content without permission.

OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, has faced mounting legal scrutiny worldwide, with book publishers, media houses, and copyright organisations pushing back against the company’s data usage practices. The lawsuit in India, OpenAI’s second-largest market, adds another layer of complexity to the global debate surrounding AI and copyright law.

The Stakes for Bollywood’s Music Industry

Hindi pop music and Bollywood are a multibillion-dollar business in India, with companies such as T-Series churning out approximately 2,000 songs a year. Saregama established a hundred years ago, has a vast library of iconic Indian music, including the works of Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar.

Music labels fear that AI systems like ChatGPT can extract lyrics, melodies and sound recordings from the internet, potentially reducing licensing revenue and diminishing creative control over original works. IMI, which also represents international labels like Sony Music and Warner Music, sees this lawsuit as a crucial battle for copyright holders worldwide.

OpenAI’s Defence and the Future of AI Regulation

OpenAI argues that its AI models draw on publicly accessible content and uphold fair-use rules. However, OpenAI has also fought the ANI lawsuit because Indian courts are not competent, as OpenAI is headquartered in the U.S. with global servers.

There is increasing opposition worldwide to the way AI uses copyrighted material. Germany’s songwriters’ union GEMA, for example, sued OpenAI last year on the grounds of reproducing lyrics to songs without permission.

With the next court hearing set to take place on February 21, the results of this case may have broader implications for regulation of AI, copyright protection and the larger relationship between creative industries and artificial intelligence.

BAFTA Awards 2025: Best Red Carpet Looks

BAFTA Awards 2025: Best Red Carpet Looks

The annual British Academy of Film and Television Awards are back in all their opulent glory. Now in its 78th year, BAFTA has once again brought forth a masterclass of stunning looks and A-listers who have set out to impress.

Much like the movies, this year’s looks turned heads and didn’t fail to create a lasting impression. From bold couture to timeless cuts, here are some of the best 2025 BAFTA red-carpet looks.

Selena Gomez in Custom Schiaparelli

Miss Selena Gomez was here to steal the show in her custom Schiaparelli couture dress that dripped with crystal to match her sparkler (and even more diamonds from Tiffany & Co.) With a bare neckline, stylish Erin Walsh left it on the dress to make the entire statement. Gomez paired the dress with clean girl makeup and a sleek bun.

Saoirse Ronan in Custom Louis Vuitton

Saoirse’s look was a rather refreshing one. It was perhaps the biggest nod she made to her character in The Outrun, referencing her dip-dyed hair in the film. Ronan graced the red carpet with an icy blue Louis Vuitton gown that had a sculpted neckline paired with a glossy wrap. The bold red lips and subtle makeup enhanced the look.

Mickey Madison in Prada

The Anora star Mickey Madison established herself as the fashion girlie in the vintage Prada strapless ivory gown at the BAFTA 2025. She carried a matching stole to go with the dress, nodding to the classic red carpet gowns of the 50s. Madison went for diamond studs and a vintage diamond studded collar paired with black winged eyeliner, coral blush and a nude lip liner.

Demi Moore in Custom McQueen

Demi Moore went all out on glitter in her custom McQueen gown that shimmered like stained glass. Moore paired with a coordinating clutch and De Beers jewellery. Her dress paid homage to Moore’s performance as Elizabeth Sparkle in The Substance, with bold splashes of yellow, blue and red.

Mohammad Yousuf Picks His Favorites for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

why-did-mohammad-yousuf-resign-as-pakistan-selector-mohammad-yousuf-picks-icc-champions-trophy-2025-favorites

Legendary Pakistani batter Mohammad Yousuf has thrown his weight behind New Zealand and India as the most balanced sides for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But don’t worry, Pakistan fans—he still believes the home advantage could tilt the scales in our favor.

New Zealand and India: The Teams to Beat?

In a recent interview, Yousuf didn’t shy away from praising the Kiwis. “For me, New Zealand looks like the most balanced side,” he said. And let’s be honest—they do.

With three top-notch pacers, reliable spinners, and a batting order that runs deep, the Black Caps seem ready for any challenge the subcontinent pitches might throw at them.

India, too, earned a nod from Yousuf. “They also have a balanced squad,” he noted. We’ve seen how lethal India can be, especially in high-pressure ICC tournaments. Balanced, experienced, and hungry—India will be a force to reckon with.

Home Turf Advantage for Pakistan

While Yousuf acknowledged the strengths of New Zealand and India, his faith in Pakistan remained unshaken.

“Pakistan has the edge because they are familiar with the conditions,” he pointed out. And he’s not wrong. Playing at home isn’t just about knowing the pitches—it’s about feeling the crowd’s energy, embracing the familiar surroundings, and soaking in the love from fans.

But Yousuf had a word of caution too. “They must play calculated cricket throughout the tournament,” he added. So, no reckless shots, no unnecessary risks—just smart, steady cricket.

Yousuf’s Game Plan for Pakistan

Mohammad Yousuf didn’t just stop at predictions and praises. He had some solid advice for the Pakistani team. “We need to find the gaps against spinners, rotate the strike, and minimize dot balls,” he suggested.

Sounds simple, but anyone who watched the tri-series final against New Zealand knows how challenging this can be. Their spinners had us on the back foot, and that’s a problem Pakistan needs to fix—fast.

Pitch conditions will play a huge role in determining match outcomes. Yousuf believes that if the pitch is double-paced, a score of 300 would be competitive. But if it’s a flat track? “Teams should aim for scores between 350 and 400,” he predicted. High-scoring thrillers, anyone?
