Pakistan’s star opener Fakhar Zaman suffered a knee injury during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against New Zealand in Karachi. The incident occurred in the first over. Zaman, fielding at mid-off, chased a drive from New Zealand’s Will Young. He slid to prevent a boundary and hurt his knee in the dive.
Zaman was seen clutching his waist and foot, looking uncomfortable. He went off the field and was attended to by the team physio. Kamran Ghulam replaced him as a substitute fielder. A video of the incident was shared on Twitter by user @kuchbhi12341416.
The PCB quickly shared an update on the batter’s injury. They stated that they are monitoring the injury after he suffered a stretch on the field. Fakhar came back on the field but returned quickly.
It is important to mention here that Saim Ayub was ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025. He sustained a right ankle fracture while fielding on the opening day of the second Test against South Africa at Newlands in January.

The combination of luxury, intrigue and social satire in the show has hooked viewers across the globe, and with Thailand under the limelight, the nation is already witnessing a travel boom.
Since the Season 3 premiere, queries for Koh Samui have jumped by 40%, while bookings for Phuket have grown by 44%.Even Bangkok has registered a 17% increase in interest. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is welcoming the new focus, looking forward to receiving 39-40 million overseas travellers in 2025, up from 35 million in 2024.
European tourists, particularly from Germany and the UK, are spearheading the boom. Figures show a 53% increase in searches by UK residents for Thai destinations, while Germany recorded a 50% increase. France, Italy and Denmark are also on the boom bandwagon, with the French tourism taking the lead.
Hotels and Airlines Cash In
Hotels and airlines are not leaving any chance to cash in on The White Lotus Effect. Finnair has increased flights to Thailand and high-end resorts such as the Four Seasons Koh Samui are launching themed vacations. Weddings can now to be booked in destinations where famous scenes were shot, or one can join private Full Moon parties modelled after the series.

The Lisa Factor
Adding to the buzz, The White Lotus Season 3 also features the acting debut of K-pop star Lisa from Blackpink. Her addition has further boosted the show’s international popularity, particularly among her huge fanbase.
A Lasting Impact?
While Thailand soaks up the brightness of the show, entrepreneurs and government leaders see this wave of tourism cement Thailand’s position as a top international travel destination. If past behaviour is any benchmark, The White Lotus Effect can be the inspiration Thailand needs to reach its bold tourism targets.

India’s media landscape has been shaken to its core with the amalgamation of Star India and Reliance Jio, forming a titan that will reshape entertainment. Priced at $8.5 billion, the deal heralds the start of a complicated but revolutionary period, bringing TV, sports and streaming under one roof.
A New TV and Sports Powerhouse
Perhaps the biggest transformation under JioStar is the remaking of sports broadcasting. The 24-channel portfolio of Star Sports now incorporates Viacom18’s Sports18 channels, providing complete regional language coverage. This unification simplifies sports broadcasting, allowing audiences to track their preferred leagues without platform-hopping. The restructuring does come at the cost of some popular channels, though, with VH1, MTV Beats and Comedy Central being among those that will no longer exist as JioStar seeks to remove duplication and minimize costs.
For the viewers who subscribe to television, this shift might introduce modest relief in rates. With less unnecessary channels, cable and DTH companies might provide cheaper packages, a step that is in line with Jio’s approach of affordability and mass reach.
Streaming Gets a Jolt
The consolidation of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into JioHotstar is another game changer. With more than 300,000 hours of content and exclusive streaming rights for IPL, Premier League, ICC events and major Hollywood studios such as Warner Bros. and NBCUniversal, JioHotstar is now on par with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Nevertheless, the greatest change is the removal of a free option, compelling millions of users to pay for premium content.
This move puts pressure on competitors, especially Netflix, which is likely to ramp up regional content production. Amazon Prime Video, already experimenting with content rentals, may need to rethink its pricing strategy to stay relevant.
Tech-Driven Future
JioStar isn’t merely content—it’s transforming the way we watch media. The firm is heavily investing in AI-driven insights, live sports analytics in real time, multi-angle viewing and ultra-HD 4K streaming. With improvements in streaming technology, such as live sports with greater frame rates, the experience of watching will be more immersive.
Source: Jio
What Lies Ahead?
As JioStar consolidates its grip, watch for fierce bids on future digital sports rights, continued penetration into regional languages and even a return of IPTV. With a leadership team that is a powerhouse in charge, India’s entertainment scene is ready to usher in a new era of bravery— one where television and streaming coexist in never-before-seen harmonies.

A severe winter storm is set to wreak havoc across the central and eastern United States. Over 110 million people are threatened with snow, ice and perilous travel conditions. The latest storm in a series of winters is expected to cause widespread chaos and hazardous situations from the Plains to the Mid-Atlantic.
“Slippery and hazardous conditions could shut down highways, delay or cancel thousands of flights, close schools and disrupt business and supply chain operations.” Some regions may be blanketed with up to a foot of snow. A large area covering parts of the Dakotas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky may experience 6-12 inches of snow. As the storm moves east, southern Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland prepare for 3-6 inches of snowfall.
AccuWeather forecasts that heavier snowfall, reaching 6-12 inches, could hit central and eastern Virginia, northeastern North Carolina and southern Maryland and Delaware. The likelihood of travel disruptions, treacherous roadways, potential flight delays and cancellations is high. AccuWeather projects over 1,100 flight cancellations on Wednesday and 650 on Thursday, reports Express US.
Along with snow, the storm is expected to bring a substantial risk of freezing rain and ice. This risk is especially high in southern regions such as parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and the Carolinas. These icy conditions could lead to dangerous travel situations, power outages and tree damage.

Pakistan’s fast bowlers have been under the microscope for a while now. Fans love them. Experts analyze them. Critics tear them apart. But according to former captain Azhar Ali, the biggest reason for their recent struggles might just be… a hashtag.
Yes, you read that right.
Remember the ‘Can’t Play Them’ trend from 2023? It was everywhere. The idea was simple—Pakistan’s pace attack, led by Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah, was supposedly too good for the opposition. The hype was massive. But since then, things haven’t exactly gone as planned.
And Azhar Ali believes that’s where everything started going wrong.
Speaking on a podcast, Azhar pointed out that social media hype can sometimes backfire.
“Remember the hashtag ‘Can’t Play Them’? Everything went bad from there,” he said. “I think managers should not create a fuss about everything on social media.”
His point? It’s great to celebrate victories. But overhyping players can create unrealistic expectations. When results don’t match the hype, criticism hits harder. And in Pakistan, that criticism can be brutal.
The Injury Factor
Azhar also highlighted another issue—rushing bowlers back from injury.
Pakistan’s pace attack has dealt with injuries frequently. But instead of giving them proper recovery time, the management often brings them back too soon.
“The Pakistan team management rushes bowlers back after an injury; their rehabilitation is not done as it should be,” Azhar explained.
He compared it to how India handled Jasprit Bumrah’s injury. The star pacer was out for a year. He could have returned earlier, but India prioritized his long-term fitness over a quick comeback. And now? Bumrah is back to his best.
One common argument is that players rush their comebacks because they fear losing their place. But Azhar dismissed this idea when asked about Pakistan’s main fast bowlers.
“All these three or four bowlers which you are talking about—Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah—how will they lose their place? They are proper bowlers,” he said.
It’s a fair point. Pakistan’s pace attack is still one of the best in the world. But to stay at the top, they need better injury management and a mindset shift. Hype is fun, but consistency wins tournaments.

The countdown is over. Pakistan are set to take on New Zealand in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and there’s good news for the home side—Haris Rauf is back!
The fast bowler, who suffered a chest strain earlier this month, is expected to be fully fit for the big clash. Captain Mohammad Rizwan confirmed the positive update, saying Rauf had been bowling with full rhythm in the nets and feeling no discomfort.
“He bowled 6-8 overs a couple of days ago and bowled a fair bit yesterday too,” Rizwan shared at the pre-tournament press conference. “He’s also putting in the work in the gym and isn’t complaining of any pains. We think he’s fully fit.”
That’s a huge relief for Pakistan, who can now unleash their best bowling attack—Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf—against the Blackcaps.
A Tough Start Awaits
While Rauf’s return is a boost, there’s no denying that Pakistan have a mountain to climb. New Zealand dominated them twice in the recent tri-series, winning the tournament without breaking a sweat. They defended a total in one game and chased with ease in another, exposing Pakistan’s inconsistencies.
Plus, they’ve dealt with injuries better than most teams. Lockie Ferguson and Ben Sears are sidelined, but the Kiwis still have plenty of firepower. Their fast bowlers can rattle any batting lineup, and their spinners keep things tight in the middle overs.
So, are Pakistan underdogs in this opener? Maybe. But Rizwan doesn’t see it that way.
Rizwan’s Quiet Hunger
“We suffered for 10 years when no side came here,” Rizwan reminded everyone, referring to Pakistan’s long cricketing exile. “But we still produced solid results. So we have no doubts about our ability.”
Yet, beneath his usual optimism, there was something different. Rizwan is known for his faith-driven, calm approach. He often talks about “the will of Allah” and keeping pressure off. But this time, there was an edge to his words—a hunger for an ICC title, a desperation to win at home.
“We’ve come so close a few times,” he admitted. “We need to find that extra one per cent to win those big matches. Every player is desperate for this title.”
For a team that has seen heartbreak in knockout games, this tournament is about more than just cricket. It’s about proving they can cross the final hurdle. It’s about winning in front of their own crowd. It’s about redemption.
A Title to Defend, A Statement to Make
Pakistan are not just another team in this tournament—they are the defending champions. They know what it takes to lift this trophy. But they also know the challenge ahead.
The opening game is more than just a match. It’s a test of character. A statement of intent. A chance to show the world that Pakistan cricket, playing an ICC event at home after nearly three decades, is here to fight.
The road to glory starts now. And for Rizwan and his men, the only way forward is through.

Netflix has released a teaser for Squid Game season 3, and it reveals a major change to one of the show’s most recognisable games. Squid Game season 2 broke records with more than 68 million viewers in the first four days after it launched on Netflix on Boxing Day. Its viewership in premiere week beat Jenna Ortega’s thriller Wednesday’s 50.1 million views when it was released in 2022.
The show follows hundreds of cash-strapped individuals as they compete in deadly games for a life-changing sum of money and their lives. It welcomes the return of Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun/Player 456, who seeks to infiltrate the games and put an end to them once and for all.
One of those games is “Red Light, Green Light,” which sees an unusually large doll placed at one end of a field. The doll, Young-hee, dressed in a yellow t-shirt and orange dress, has become a symbol of the show. Jung Ho-yeon, who played Sae-byeok in the first season, confirmed the doll was inspired by a character in Korean school textbooks on Tonight with Jimmy Fallon in 2021.
The show’s official “X“ account handle posted, “Prepare for the final game. Here’s your first look at Squid Game Season 3, premiering June 27.”
Squid Game season 3, Netflix,
Hinting at Korean Education Texts
In a teaser for season three released on Wednesday (1 January), the doll appears, looking slightly concerned, opposite a brand new male doll. As new players enter behind her, she is seen facing the male doll in a green shirt with stripes. “Everyone say hi to Chul-su,”wrote Netflix alongside the teaser. “Squid Game 3 coming 2025.” In one of Netflix’s YouTube channels, Still Watching Netflix, the history behind the dolls is revealed. Both Young-hee and Chul-su are regularly recurring fictional children in Korean education texts that are “similar to the American versions Dick and Jane or Jack and Jill”.
The dolls, it is explained, “were used to teach Korean kids about morals, good behaviours, and to learn how to read and write.” Although they aren’t featured as much anymore, they are said to be prominent reminders of childhood for many adults.
Squid Game creators had confirmed a third season was in development even before the official release of season two. While an official release date has not been announced, the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyu, told Variety: “At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious. But what I can say is, after season two launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for season three soon. I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall.”

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan has confirmed that Babar Azam will open the innings in the upcoming match against New Zealand. He dismissed speculations regarding any change in the batting order. At a press conference in Karachi, Rizwan said, “We have not received any information that Babar Azam will not open. The board is satisfied with Babar, and he will continue to open in the future.” The captain also provided an update on fast bowler Haris Rauf. He stated that he is fully fit and bowling with rhythm. “Inshallah, he will play tomorrow’s match,”Rizwan assured.
Expressing confidence in the team’s preparations for the ICC event, Rizwan said the players are determined to perform strongly in the Champions Trophy.“Whenever we are considered weak, we win. We are in a learning phase and have worked on our weaknesses after the series against New Zealand. Hopefully, those issues will not arise in tomorrow’s game,” he said. Addressing concerns about Pakistan’s inconsistency in close matches, Rizwan acknowledged that the team has struggled to close out games but is working to rectify this issue. “The match sometimes slips away in the final moments, and we are focusing on overcoming this weakness,”he said.
The Pakistan skipper emphasised the role of experienced players in crucial matches. “The burden should be more on the senior players. They should take responsibility and perform accordingly,” Rizwan stated, adding that Pakistan has often won matches due to individual brilliance. He dismissed doubts about the team’s capability, asserting that Pakistan has consistently delivered strong performances at home. “Whenever a team has toured Pakistan, we have produced good results. There should be no doubt about our players’ ability. We are working hard to rectify our mistakes,” he added.
Rizwan also underscored that the team’s ambition extends beyond individual aspirations. “It is not just me or Babar who want to win a trophy—every player shares this dream and is putting in the hard work,”he said. Concluding on an optimistic note, Rizwan lauded the resilience and dedication of the Pakistani nation. “Our nation is the most hardworking in the world. I have seen other nations, and I firmly believe this. We have hard work at our disposal, and if we continue to put in the effort, success will come, Inshallah,” he remarked.

The Sindh High Court has approved the physical remand of Armaghan Qureshi, the key suspect in the murder of Mustafa Amir. The high court directed authorities to present him before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) for further proceedings. Justice Zafar Rajput of the Sindh High Court presided over the hearing, during which the suspect, Armaghan, was also present in court. The court has ordered the formation of a medical board to conduct a post-mortem and collect DNA samples from Mustafa’s remains.
Further revelations have come from Armaghan’s friend, Shiraz, who claimed that Mustafa and Armaghan had a dispute over a girl during New Year’s Eve. The disagreement led to Armaghan calling Mustafa to his house on January 6, where he violently killed him. The suspects then transported his body in the car’s trunk to Hub in Balochistan, where they set the vehicle on fire. Initial investigations indicate that Armaghan and Shiraz were responsible for burning the car and disposing of the body.
Meanwhile, police recovered modern weapons from the suspect’s residence, and the Counter-Terrorism Department has been assigned to trace their origin. The AVCC police have also requested FIA assistance in analysing data from a laptop seized from Armaghan’s bungalow.
Additionally, a disturbing audio recording has surfaced, reportedly Mustafa’s last, in which he tells a friend that he is heading to Armaghan’s house and suggests that his friend should join him after finishing his work. This recording has raised significant questions about the police investigation, as it suggests that Mustafa’s friend may have known about his last whereabouts yet failed to inform the authorities for over a month.

In a culture where marriages typically end on the pretext of “Ghar walay nahi maanay,” Muzz has taken a step ahead. Their newest campaign, #NiyyatSaafHai, addresses the problem of unserious commitment head-on. Muzz does so with a dose of humour, drawing attention to the reality experienced by many women in Pakistan— being strung along for years only to be dumped the moment the topic of marriage is raised.
A Relatable Yet Effective Advertisement
The commercial boasts a talented ensemble of female protagonists—Rabiya Kulsum, Zoha Tauqeer, Laiba Butt and Hina Ashfaque—who give dramatic yet humorous performances. With over-the-top expressions and witty dialogues, the campaign reflects real-life situations where women spend time and emotions on relationships, only to be greeted with evasive excuses by their partners.
Though its humorous approach makes the campaign super interactive, the message conveyed is serious. With a culture that tends to remain unclear when it comes to marriage and societal pressure causing heartbreaks, Muzz offers a solution in the form of the Marriage Intentions feature.
This tool allows users to indicate when they plan to involve their families and how soon they want to get married. By checking a match’s profile, individuals can filter out those who aren’t serious about long-term commitment.
Over the years, Muzz has made a name for itself by addressing ingrained social norms with effective marketing. Their 2024 viral campaign challenged conventional Rishta culture and the objectification of women in the process. Now, with #NiyyatSaafHai, they are turning their attention to another critical issue: uncertainty in relationships.
Promoting Transparency in Relationships
The initiative strikes a deep chord among current Pakistani singles who are looking increasingly for openness on the dating front. By allowing people to engage in marriage agendas early on through normalised dialogue, Muzz isn’t merely arranging compatible partners but also challenging society to recast outdated norms.

With its humour and social commentary, #NiyyatSaafHai has raised the bar for innovative advertising in Pakistan. It encourages young people to be honest about their future intentions, ensuring relationships are built on transparency and shared expectations.
In an era of swiping right and left, Muzz’s campaign reminds us that occasionally, all it takes to spare yourself heartbreak is a little bit of clarity.

The Success of Burka Avenger

A Much-Awaited Comeback
Although he concentrates on animation, Haroon has come back to music periodically, performing the Burka Avenger theme song Baba Bandook with Ali Azmat and releasing Dhundoonga in 2020. He also performed with Azmat, Arif Loha and Asim Azhar for the Pakistan Super League anthem Tayyar Hain the same year.
