Pakistan-West Indies ODIs Set to Be Scrapped for More T20Is

pakistan-west-indies-odis-set-to-be-scrapped-for-more-t20is

Cricket is at a crossroads once again—and this time, it’s the 50-over format that seems to be quietly getting pushed aside. According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) are in early talks to scrap the three-match ODI series originally scheduled for August this year.

Instead, they’re considering replacing it with more T20Is, citing preparation for the Asia Cup 2025 (to be played in T20 format) and the T20 World Cup 2026 as the reason.

What’s on the Table?

As per the original schedule, Pakistan were set to play three T20Is and three ODIs against the West Indies. The T20Is are set for July 31, August 2, and August 3, followed by ODIs on August 8, 10, and 12 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

But now, that ODI leg may not happen at all. Sources suggest that both boards are exploring this idea to maximize T20 preparation time, build combinations, and fine-tune squads ahead of T20 World Cup.

T20s Make Sense—But at What Cost?

Let’s be honest—T20 is the king of modern cricket. It brings in the crowds, drives media rights, and gives boards a financial boost. Preparing for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup by playing more T20Is makes perfect sense in the context of immediate goals.

But here’s the problem: this short-term planning comes at the long-term expense of ODI cricket.

ODIs are the perfect balance between Test patience and T20 explosiveness. They build temperament, test technique, and allow players to grow into their roles. Sacrificing them purely based on upcoming tournaments undermines the development of players and disrupts the calendar’s balance across formats.

Is ODI Cricket Slowly Dying?

This isn’t the first time this has happened. Earlier this year, PCB and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreed to drop their ODI series in favor of extra T20Is. It raises a critical question: Are we becoming too tournament-focused and neglecting format development?

If every year is planned solely around the next big event, teams will become reactive instead of strategic. Young cricketers will lack experience in 50-over cricket, and fans could lose interest in the format altogether.

One Format Shouldn’t Come at the Cost of Another

International cricket is already under pressure from franchise leagues. The last thing the sport needs is internal cannibalism between formats. Boards, including Pakistan and the West Indies, must find a balance where T20Is are prioritized when needed, but not at the complete expense of ODIs.

Because here’s the truth—all three formats matter. ODIs still produce great cricket, dramatic finishes, and compelling narratives. Dropping ODIs to make room for T20Is might sound logical in the short run, but it’s a slippery slope.

Initial schedule of West Indies-Pakistan series

  • July 31, 2025 – First T20I – Broward County, Florida
  • August 2, 2025 – Second T20I – Broward County, Florida
  • August 3, 2025 – Third T20I – Broward County, Florida
  • August 8, 2025 – First ODI – Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad
  • August 10, 2025 – Second ODI – Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad
  • August 12, 2025 – Third ODI – Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad

How Franchise Cricket Is Killing International Dreams!

how-franchise-cricket-is-killing-international-dreams

Franchise cricket is booming like never before—and with it, international cricket is quietly bleeding. From the IPL to the BBL, T20 leagues are offering not just fame but fat paychecks, tempting top-tier players to choose money over national pride.

The alarming part? We’re seeing more and more international stars calling time on their national careers in their early 30s—or in some cases, like Nicholas Pooran, even before hitting 30.

With less than a year to go for the next T20 World Cup, one has to ask: Is the lure of franchise cricket slowly killing the dream of representing your country?

Franchise Over Flag?

We’ve already seen this trend creeping in. Mohammad Amir is another prime example. The left-arm pacer had the world at his feet. Yes, he retired once citing differences with the PCB. Then made a comeback. Then quit again.

And guess what? He’s been globe-trotting, playing franchise cricket ever since. And it’s not just about one or two players. A disturbing pattern is forming.

Players, especially T20 specialists from around the world (barring Pakistan), are earning millions every year from the IPL alone — and still manage to squeeze in a couple more leagues. That’s $2–3 million annually, minimum. And yet, walking away from the national side, is somehow becoming normal.

“Want to Spend Time with Family” – Really?

Let’s talk about the most commonly served excuse for early retirements: “I want to spend more time with family.”

Don’t get me wrong — family should come first. No arguments there. But how does that align with travelling non-stop from one T20 league to another?

If being home is the top priority, then shouldn’t franchise cricket be the first thing to go? After all, it keeps you away from home most of the year.

But what’s actually happening is the complete opposite: Players are ditching international cricket, the very platform that gave them recognition, and opting for year-round franchise commitments. No off-season. No breaks. Just cricket, cash, and contracts.

How Much Money Is Too Much?

Look, I get it — careers are short, injuries happen, and money talks. But there has to be a line somewhere. How much is enough? When does it stop being about securing your future and start being about hoarding wealth at the cost of national pride?

Cricket fans invest emotionally. They dream with the team. And when a player who was once their hero walks away just because he can earn more elsewhere, it hurts. It’s a betrayal.

If this continues, international cricket risks becoming irrelevant. Are we heading toward a future where international cricket becomes a second-tier platform, a stepping stone to franchise leagues?

Because if that’s the direction we’re heading, then we need to pause and ask: What’s left of the game we all grew up loving?

Did Rajab Butt Kidnap and Assault a Social Media Activist?

did-rajab-butt-kidnap-and-assault-a-social-media-activist

At Nawab Town police station, a criminal case has been filed by a female social media activist against YouTuber Rajab Butt and others. Charges of rape, blackmail, and unlawful incarceration appear in the FIR.

She said that everything started when she became friends with Salman Haider, who is related to Butt.

The woman claimed Salman Haider raped her, drugged her, and recorded videos of the act. She said he blackmailed and threatened her with those videos later on. After giving her drugs and filming videos, he hit her and blackmailed her into using them against her.

She also stated that Rajab Butt “forcibly confined her in Salman Butt’s residence.” The woman, also named Maan Dogar, another YouTuber, was involved in her unlawful detention.

According to Lahore police, an FIR has been filed under the Pakistan Penal Code section 376. Officials have opened an inquiry to verify the woman’s allegations and find each individual’s involvement. The inquiry is still in progress.

Earlier in the news, Rajab Butt faced a blasphemy case for another controversy about a scent called “295.” Although religious organisations objected, he disclaimed disparagement of religion.

He remarked, “It was a misconception. I admire Islamic principles.”

Is the American Dream Shattering? Immigration Chaos Says So

is-the-american-dream-shattering-immigration-chaos-says-so

Oprah Winfrey, riddled with poverty and physical abuse, faced hardship after hardship. Yet, she accomplished more than many could dream, becoming an icon in the showbiz by revolutionising talk shows.

Similarly, Arnold Schwarzenegger came from very humble beginnings in a small Austrian town. Today, he is recognised as one of the most successful bodybuilders and actors.

Winfrey and Schwarzenegger personified “The American Dream,” the notion that anyone, regardless of social background or systemic obstacle, could achieve success and upward social mobility.  All it needs is resilience and initiative in the US because America is “The Land of Opportunity.”

However, there is reason to believe that “The American Dream” could be shattering, even more so under the tumultuous administration of current US President, Donald Trump, whose ideology and policies have undermined America’s image of progress for all.

The Los Angeles Chaos

The recent string of immigration protests in LA and the Trump Administration’s authoritarian response to the resistance show that the American Dream is under severe stress.

As part of his recent crackdown on immigrants, federal US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers stormed LA’s garment district for workers, who were suspected of being illegal immigrants. This caused a huge public outcry, sparking massive protests in the city, which quickly took an ugly turn.

thousand-of-anti-ice-protestors-gather-outside-the-federal-building-during-la-protests
Thousands of anti-ICE protesters are gathering outside the Federal Building in Los Angeles.

Protestors chanted and threw eggs, only to be met with severe opposition by law enforcement agencies. The anti-ICE protests were mostly peaceful, but some grew violent in different parts of the city.

Demonstrations continued in working-class suburbs, leading to law enforcement officers making arrests and using tear gas to disperse protestors. Trump’s decision to double down on law enforcement and deploy 2000 National Guard members to LA deepened the divide between the disgruntled public and the state.

Declining Democracy?

The Trump administration’s stance on crushing the opposition in the streets of LA can be seen as a symptom of the decline of democracy and freedom in the US, as hinted by renowned human rights lawyer Philippe Sands.

According to Sands, such strict measures were typical of authoritarian regimes.

Normalisation of force in settling domestic disputes puts civil rights under pressure. Citizens have the right to voice their opinion, often in peaceful demonstrations, which was the initial stage of protests in LA over the weekend.

For the average Muslim living in America, the dream of rising from the social hierarchy and class system is almost impossible. Systemic pressures, which include institutionalised racism, will inevitably impede their progress.

Islamophobia and the perpetuation of racial stereotypes are further obstacles in their course.

If the brutal crackdown on immigrants continues, America will cease to become the “melting pot” and the leader of democracy. If foreigners are not free to practice their religion and improve their life chances, America is no longer a haven.

The Trump administration’s policies have cast a shadow of fear and uncertainty over America’s diverse population, which is a threat to all except a few radical extremist nationalists.

The American Dream is under threat as cultural and economic divides deepen against the backdrop of growing hostility between the state and the public.

Fahad Mustafa Set to Shake the Industry with Two Films

Fahad Mustafa has officially jumped into the film production scene, and the buzz in Pakistani cinema is palpable! With his well-known banner, Big Bang Entertainment, he’s gearing up to produce two major films set to hit theatres in 2026 and 2027.

After making waves in the TV drama world, Fahad is now pouring that same creative spark into storytelling for the big screen.

This move is an exciting new chapter in his already impressive career. What makes this announcement even more intriguing is that he’s not just behind the scenes; he’s also taking on a leading role in both of the films!

That’s right, Fahad is stepping into the spotlight as the hero in one of his productions.

Casting Himself as the Hero: Fahad Makes No Apologies

In a recent interview, Fahad Mustafa tackled the big question head-on. When asked why he decided to take on the lead role himself instead of bringing in a fresh face, his answer was refreshingly honest.

“If you think someone else should be in the role, then go ahead, make your own movie,” he said with a grin. “It’s all about the effort.”

Watch here:

That single remark sparked quite a buzz online, but Fahad isn’t backing down. He firmly believes that anyone willing to put in the hard work deserves the creative freedom to share their stories and to star in them if they want.

After all, he’s built his career on hard work, resilience, and daring choices. So why would he stop now?

What this Means for Pakistani Cinema

This moment is a game-changer, not just for Fahad but for the entire local film scene. By choosing to self-produce and take the lead on a project, he’s tapping into a growing trend where actors are seizing control of their creative journeys.

It’s a clear sign that we’re moving towards storytelling that’s more personal and driven by passion.

Fahad’s hands-on approach, being involved in everything from production to performance,, really highlights his commitment to raising the bar for Pakistani cinema. With Big Bang Entertainment supporting these upcoming ventures, the anticipation is through the roof.

And as the Pakistani film industry booms with some great films, fans can hardly wait to see what Fahad brings to the big screen in 2026 and 2027.

Whether you’re a devoted Fahad Mustafa fan or simply cheering for the advancement of local cinema, this news is thrilling. One thing’s for sure: the stage is set, the cameras are ready to roll, and everyone will be watching to see what unfolds next.

Neil Patrick Harris as Deadpool? Ryan Reynolds Isn’t Happy

neil-patrick-harris-as-deadpool-ryan-reynolds-isnt-happy

Meta Quest 2 has dropped the trailer for Marvel’s Deadpool VR, starring Neil Patrick Harris as the new voice of Deadpool! And Ryan Reynolds isn’t taking the loss of his crown lightly—he’s making sure everyone knows it.

Just hours after the trailer was dropped, Reynolds clapped back with a parody video, making it evident that he’s not thrilled about the decision.

Reynolds Goes Full Doogie

In the video, Reynolds appears in full nerd mode—glasses, lab coat, and an old-school computer—clearly spoofing Harris’ breakout role in Doogie Howser, M.D.

“Today, I learned a lesson about buttholes they don’t teach you in medical school. People who steal your signature role are the biggest buttholes of all.”

Channelling Doogie, he types a “journal entry” lamenting his loss. He admits Harris is talented—“the nurturing voice of an angel”—but insists he still feels “totally screwed.”

Enter Robyn Lively (And Pure Chaos)

Robyn Lively, who once played Harris’s love interest on Doogie Howser, makes a surprise appearance. Reynolds calls her “my girlfriend” in character, but she quickly shuts it down:

“You’re a 48-year-old man.”

Reynolds refuses to break.

“I’m a 14-year-old medical prodigy going through the change,” he says.

When he leans in for a kiss, he backs off with a reality check:

“I don’t think we should do that because you’re my sister-in-law.”

Her deadpan reply?

“You’re so dumb.”

Neil Patrick Harris as Deadpool?

Neil Patrick Harris Has the Last Laugh… For Now

While Reynolds clowns around, Harris is suiting up for the real deal. Deadpool VR promises a brutal, expletive-filled experience that’s “not for the faint of heart.” It’s set to launch later this year on Meta Quest 3 and 3S.

Will Reynolds let this slide? Not a chance. But for now, Harris is the man behind the red mask—at least in virtual reality. Watch the full spoof online, and get ready for what might be the pettiest (and funniest) Deadpool rivalry yet.

Sarfaraz Ahmed Takes Role in PCB’s Reshuffled Selection Panel: Reports

sarfaraz-ahmed-joins-pcb-reshuffled-selection-committee

Big news is making the rounds in Pakistani cricket circles, and while there’s no official announcement just yet, sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suggest that former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has joined the national selection committee.

If these reports are to be believed, former Test cricketers Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq have been relieved of their selection duties quietly. In their place, 2017 Champions Trophy-winning skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and outspoken cricket analyst Sikandar Bakht have been included.

But this sudden reshuffle hasn’t come without questions. In fact, some fans are scratching their heads—especially over Sarfaraz’s inclusion, given that he hasn’t officially retired from international cricket.

New Faces, Familiar Names

According to multiple insider reports, the PCB recently held a high-profile selection meeting in Lahore. Head coach Mike Hesson, captain Salman Ali Agha, and selectors Aaqib Javed, Aleem Dar and Sikandar Bakht present at the meeting. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz attended the selection committee meeting via video conference while currently in England

Though the official announcements are yet to come, this revamp signals a new chapter for the PCB, and cricket fans will be watching closely to see how it impacts the national team. The sources further revealed that the committee has finalised squads for Pakistan’s upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh as well as the West Indies.

A Changing of the Guard

While Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sikandar Bakht make their way in, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq have been left out. It’s a significant change, especially considering their long-standing roles in Pakistan cricket.

Azhar Ali, who has been a stalwart for Pakistan over the years, is now focusing on youth development programs. His extensive experience as a player could still serve Pakistan cricket in a different capacity.

Similarly, Asad Shafiq has been reassigned to work at the Karachi High-Performance Centre and contribute to the Women’s Selection Committee. While it may seem like a demotion for these two, it’s actually a shift in focus.

Nicholas Pooran Bids Farewell to International Cricket at 29

Nicholas-Pooran-Bids-Farewell-International-Cricket

Nicholas Pooran, one of the West Indies’ most exciting white-ball cricketers of the modern era, has announced his retirement from international cricket at just 29 years old.

Pooran Drops the Bombshell

In a heartfelt post on social media, Pooran opened up about his decision:

“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from international cricket… Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field… it’s hard to put into words what that truly means to me.”

Just last year, he played his 100th T20I and spoke about dreaming of playing “100 more.” So, when a player with that kind of commitment and passion suddenly calls it quits, it naturally raises eyebrows.

The Franchise Effect?

Let’s be honest: Pooran’s retirement isn’t happening in isolation. It’s part of a growing trend where players are prioritizing franchise cricket over international commitments, often for financial security and longer playing careers.

Just recently, we saw Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa’s middle-order rock, retire at 33. Prior to him, Marcus Stoinis, the Aussie all-rounder, also called time on his international journey at 35.

And now, it’s Pooran. These players were still performing at their best and had alot to offer, but they quit early to play more franchise cricket.

A Career That Burned Bright

Nicholas Pooran made his T20I debut in 2016 against Pakistan and later earned his ODI cap in 2019. His rise was rapid, his talent unquestionable. He was handed the white-ball captaincy in 2022, but following a forgettable T20 World Cup campaign in Australia, he stepped down.

Still, he remained a core part of the West Indies’ setup — especially in T20s. In fact, he’s the most-capped T20I player in West Indies history with 106 matches under his belt.

Let’s look at the numbers:

  • T20Is: 106 matches, 2275 runs, Avg. 26.14, SR 136.39
  • ODIs: 61 matches, 1983 runs, Avg. 39.66, SR 99.15

Why Now?

Pooran hadn’t officially announced a retirement from either format prior to this. But in hindsight, signs were there — he opted out of the England T20Is and hadn’t played an ODI since the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers, where West Indies’ early exit was a low point.

Still, it felt like he had more to give. So, this announcement caught most fans — and perhaps even teammates — off guard.

Get to Know the 12 Heroes of the Gaza Aid Vessel – Madleen

get-to-know-the-12-heroes-of-the-gaza-aid-vessel-madleen

Monday morning began on a dreadful note as netizens woke up to the news of an Israeli Navy interception of a Gaza aid vessel, Madleen.

The ship, operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), set out to deliver “symbolic aid” (rice, baby formula and medical supplies) to Gaza and break the blockade of the Palestinian enclave.

Israeli naval commandos boarded Madleen in international waters, an estimated 185-200 km off the Gaza coast, in the early hours of June 9. The interception has been subject to much international debate, with extensive discourse about the legitimacy of the Israeli navy’s actions.

Who was on the Aid Vessel?

12 prominent activists from seven countries were aboard the Gaza aid vessel. Israeli officials have labelled them as terrorist supporters and discredited their mission. However, these brave men and women have been universally recognised and praised as heroes for their courageous endeavours.

Here are the names of the 12 activists on-board people:

Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg, a 22-year-old Swedish activist, was the most high-profile name aboard the Gaza aid vessel. Thunberg has made headlines in the past due to her vocal stance on climate change and an infamous Twitter war with controversial influencer Andrew Tate.

Rima Hassan

Thunberg was accompanied by Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament. Hassan made history by becoming the first French Palestinian to become a European MP. In the past, she has publicly denounced the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza.

Yasemin Acar

Yasemin Acar from Germany was also on board the Gaza aid Flotilla. Acar called on everyone to pressure their governments to stop military support for Israel, citing this as a major reason for the continuation of the illegal blockade on Gaza.

Omar Faiad

Omar Faiad, a dedicated French journalist, was Al Jazeera Mubasher’s correspondent for the voyage.

Thiago Avila

Thiago Avila is a Brazilian, Latin American FFC coordinator who has supported the Palestinian cause for nearly two decades.

Suayb Ordu

Suayb Ordu is a peaceful Turkish volunteer who has publicly declared non-retaliation, ensuring that the voyage remained nonviolent.

In a message posted on his Instagram, as the ship neared Gaza, “If any harm comes to me, if they kill me, and they cannot prove it with visual evidence, let it be known that I took no action.”

Sergio Toribio

Sergio Toribio is a Spanish activist and a member of the marine conservation group, Sea Shepherd.

Baptiste Andre

Baptiste Andre is a doctor who sailed to provide medical assistance

Yanis Mhamdi

Yanis Mhamdi is a filmmaker who was documenting the voyage. In a video recorded before the interception, Mhamdi urged the “French authorities to expedite his release if he is detained” when they see the video, which was to be released in case of an attack.

Pascal Maurieras

Pascal Maurieras is an FFC veteran previously detained in a 2018 mission to Gaza. Following his fellow detainees’ calls, he urged the French government to intervene.

Reva Viard

Reva Viard from France was also aboard the Madleen. s an activist who has echoed many of his fellow detainees’ beliefs in ending the violence in Gaza.

Mark van Rennes

Dutch citizen and member of the Dutch Boat to Gaza, Mark Van Rennes, is also among the 12 on the ship. He called on the Dutch government to secure the release of those detained.

The FFC claimed that the 12 unarmed activists were “kidnapped,” and Madleen’s interception was a breach of international law. The French Government has urged Israel to return the French nationals as soon as possible.

Although it may not have delivered humanitarian aid with its intended motives, the mission could be labelled as a success because it has raised global awareness about the blockade on Gaza, and Israel’s barbarian and illegal actions, even against unarmed civilians.

Shaheen, Rizwan Among Pakistan Players To Enter BBL 15 Draft

shaheen-afridi-rizwan-among-pakistan-players-to-enter-bbl-15-draft

The Big Bash League (BBL) season 15 Draft is just around the corner, and guess what? Pakistan’s stars are ready to light it up Down Under.

Pace ace Shaheen Shah Afridi and the ever-reliable Mohammad Rizwan are among the big names from Pakistan who’ve thrown their hats into the ring for BBL Season 15’s player draft, which is set for June 19.

Pakistan’s Power Pack

Joining Shaheen and Rizwan in the draft pool are Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan, giving the draft a strong Pakistani flavor. These four aren’t just crowd favorites — they’re game-changers, and their presence in the draft signals some serious intent.

What makes it even better for the Aussie T20 league? The gap in Pakistan’s international schedule from November to February opens the door for these players to be fully available. That’s a golden ticket for BBL franchises looking to secure reliable, top-tier overseas stars.

600+ Players, One Goal: Make the Cut

This year’s BBL draft promises to be the most competitive yet, with over 600 overseas players registering. It’s a blockbuster list, and the competition is fierce.

Brisbane Heat, who hold the No. 1 pick, will get the first shot at snapping up a superstar. And with names like England’s Sam Curran and Alex Hales, New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera, and West Indies quick Shamar Joseph also in the mix, teams have some serious thinking to do.

WBBL Draft: Fatima Sana Joins Elite Company

Let’s not forget the women’s side of the action! The WBBL 11 draft is running alongside the men’s, and Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana is flying the flag.

She’ll be rubbing shoulders in the draft with the likes of Heather Knight, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge from England; Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey from India; South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail and Chloe Tryon; and West Indies powerhouse Deandra Dottin.

What’s Next?

The full draft list and player availability for the BBL 15 are expected to be revealed in the coming days. But one thing’s for sure — the anticipation is already buzzing.

Will Shaheen find a new BBL home? Can Rizwan slot in as a game-changer? Will Fatima Sana make history in the WBBL? We’ll have to wait until June 19 to find out. But until then, buckle up — Big Bash fever is officially ON.

Sana Mir made history as the first Pakistani woman inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. The International Cricket Council honoured her along with six other cricketers, MS Dhoni, Matthew Hayden, Daniel Vettori, Sarah Taylor, Hashim Amla, and Graeme Smith.

This marks a major milestone for women’s cricket and Pakistan’s sporting journey.

“I am incredibly grateful for this honour and hope to give back to the sport in any way I can. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my teammates, coaches and family for all their support over the years.”

Sana became captain in 2009 and led the team for eight years. In 2018, she reached the top of the ICC ODI Player Rankings.

The Only Person Demanding India-Pakistan War is Modi”: Bilawal Bhutto

the-only-person-demanding-india-pakistan-war-at-all-costs-is-modi-bilawal-bhutto

Former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the India-Pakistan war has “never been lower” in history.

In an interview with Sky News from London on Monday, Bilawal expressed serious concern about the current tension levels between the two countries, especially after the recent military standoff.

“At the moment, the threshold for conflict between India and Pakistan is lower than it’s ever been in our history,” Bilawal said. “We’ve achieved the ceasefire, but we have not achieved peace as it stands today.”

The crisis was triggered by a terrorist attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where 26 tourists were killed.

India blamed the incident on Pakistan-based groups. Islamabad, however, denied any involvement and called for a fair and impartial international investigation.

Over four days, both nations exchanged missile and drone strikes and engaged in air combat, increasing the risk of full-scale war between the nuclear-armed states.

International actors, including the United States, stepped in to de-escalate the situation. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire on May 10.

Despite the ceasefire, Bilawal said the potential for conflict remains high. “If there’s a terrorist attack anywhere in India or IIOJK, proof or no proof, that means war,” he warned. “That’s not a tenable situation.”

He emphasised the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve long-standing issues like terrorism, the Kashmir dispute and water-sharing conflicts.

Bilawal also criticised India for its handling of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), saying delayed water releases could severely damage Pakistan’s agriculture. “Even a week’s delay in water supply can destroy crops,” he said.

“That would be war,” he added.

He stated that any infrastructure project built by India on rivers allocated to Pakistan would be considered aggression.

Rejection of Indian Allegations

Responding to Indian claims that Pakistan was behind the Kashmir attack, Bilawal said there was no credible evidence. “They went to war with a nuclear power and still cannot name a single terrorist involved,” he stated.

He defended Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, pointing to the country’s removal from the FATF grey list during his tenure as proof of commitment to global norms.

Bilawal is currently leading a diplomatic tour to share Pakistan’s stance globally in the aftermath of the conflict.

His delegation has already met with representatives from the United Nations, various member states, and US officials. The mission is now continuing in London.

Bilawal Criticised India’s Current Political Stance

Speaking to the media following his meeting at the British Parliament, the 36-year-old politician said that wherever he has travelled, people have supported peace, not war.

“Wherever I’ve travelled, no one has said they want war. Everyone wants peace. The only person demanding India-Pakistan war at all costs is Modi,” Bilawal added.

The politician also criticised India’s current political stance, accusing its leadership of promoting a narrative based on conflict and division.

“Our case for peace is strong. India’s case for war is based on lies and division,” he said. “They want to divide not just their own people but the entire region.”

The former foreign minister said that British lawmaker:s had attentively heard Pakistan’s position on key issues, expressing hope that the MPs he met would play their part in supporting peace efforts in South Asia.

“Pakistan’s message is clear, we want to establish peace through dialogue and diplomacy,” Bilawal remarked.

“Peace in our region is in everyone’s best interest,” he added.

Opportunities for Britain for Trade

Bilawal stressed that the large Pakistani community in Britain strongly desires peace in the region.

He argued that sustained peace in the region would unlock opportunities for Britain for economic cooperation and trade, including the revival of key transit routes across South Asia.

“If the UK wishes to benefit from the region’s trade potential, peace is a necessary condition,” he said.

“Transit routes, if activated, will bring advantages of all sorts,” he added.

How Long Will the Heatwave Grip Punjab?

how-long-will-the-heatwave-grip-punjab

On Monday, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that the heatwave will continue in Punjab till June 12. Currently, temperatures 4 to 7 degrees higher than average, are regarded as life-threatening in some areas.

With 47 degrees Celsius, Sargodha recorded the highest temperature in the province. Cities like Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, and Jhang reached 40–42 degrees Celsius. Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad saw approximately 45 degrees Celsius.

Southern Punjab’s conditions are the worst, namely, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has told all agencies to prepare for heatwave. Steps include stocking medications for heat-related diseases, installing heatstroke counters in hospitals, and providing clean drinking water.

A similar condition was issued for Gilgit-Baltistan, where temperatures are rising by 5–7°C. According to the Met Office, this may speed up glacier-melting and suggested prudent actions.

Authorities used social media to warn the public of the dangers of extreme heat. PDMA also issued an advisory encouraging individuals to protect marginalised populations including youngsters, seniors, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

Between 10 am and 4 pm, people should avoid outdoor activity. PDMA suggested remaining hydrated and dressing in thin cotton clothing. They advise that the effects of heat might be instant and major.

Call the PDMA helpline at 1129 for help if you’re dizzy, fainted, or nausea. For emergencies, hospitals have predetermined thermal therapy programs.

According to the Economic Survey 2024–25, Pakistan experienced its ninth warmest year in 2024. The mean temperature, 23.52 degrees Celsius, was 0.71 degrees Celsius above normal.

At 1.26 degrees Celsius rise, July 2024 was the second hottest July in 64 years; October 2024 set records as the warmest October at 2.48 degrees Celsius above average.

Will the Rs17.8 Trillion Budget Bring Relief or Burden?

will-the-rs17-8-trillion-budget-bring-relief-or-burden

With a total budget of Rs17.8 trillion, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will unveil the federal budget 2025-26 in the National Assembly today. He will present the Senate Finance Bill 2025, which has the Annual Budget Statement.

Salaried workers get some relief from the budget. It suggests a 10% pay raise for government workers. Pension for retired civil servants may increase by 5% to 7.5%.

Employees in Grades 1 through 16 will receive a 30% specific grant. Their fundamental pay will incorporate this and will replace earlier ad hoc help.

The administration aims to lower tax evasion and expand the tax base. Though providing little relief to salaried individuals, it hopes to raise revenue collection.

Pressured by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the government is considering a new tax on farm income. Freelancers and others earning digitally, particularly from abroad, will also be taxed for the first time.

Shares and property’s capital gains tax is likely to rise. The government might also levy taxes on confectionery, fertilisers, and insecticides.

Simultaneously, taxes on tobacco and cigarettes may decrease. This is a change from prior budget plans that levied these more.

Once given tax breaks, the old FATA region could now have a 12% tax rate. This reform seeks to harmonise the tax system throughout the nation.

The budget plan draws both favourable and unfavourable reactions. One PPP head has proposed significantly greater increases—50% in salaries and 100% in pensions. The final decision will, however, be made during budget discussions in parliament.

The budget captures IMF criteria as well as local demands. It points in the direction of raising income while controlling rising costs.

economic-survey-2024-25-pakistans-gdp-grows-by-2-7-inflation-falls-to-4-6

Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, while presenting the Economic Survey 2024–25 on Monday, announced that the country’s GDP grew by 2.7% and inflation dropped to 4.6% during the outgoing fiscal year.

The Economic Survey 2024–25 comes just a day before the federal budget for the next fiscal year is to be tabled in the National Assembly.

The economic survey highlights the country’s overall socio-economic performance in FY2024–25. It includes data related to GDP growth, tax revenue, public debt, employment, climate change, inflation, trade, population growth and balance of payments.

According to the finance minister, “This document aims to guide policy planning and inform public discussions ahead of the new fiscal year.”

Key Indicators

Aurangzeb mentioned a major reduction in the policy rate from 22% to 11%, describing it as a “record cut.” He noted record recoveries in the power sector due to ongoing reforms.

The finance minister shared that Pakistan’s exports rose by 7% while IT exports reached $2.8 billion, with freelancers earning $400 million.

He added that imports increased by 11.7%, yet the current account showed a surplus of $1.9 billion from July to April, mainly due to a 26% increase in revenue collection.

Aurangzeb said, “Remittances increased by around $10 billion in two years,” calling it a significant contribution to foreign exchange.

He further shared that the number of individual tax filers doubled, calling it a positive result of the government’s tax net expansion.

Speaking on economic recovery, he said, “Islamabad has recovered in terms of GDP growth compared to global growth.”

He also noted that global inflation dropped from 6.8% to 0.3%, while Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves improved significantly.

“We now have to move towards GDP stabilisation,” he added, stating that the country is moving in a “better direction.”

He projected that Pakistan’s GDP will grow by 5.7% over the medium term.

Revenue and Remittances

The survey noted that total revenue grew by 36.7% to Rs13,367 billion between July and March.

Tax revenue rose by 26.3% to Rs9,300.2 billion, while non-tax revenue increased by 68% to Rs4,229.7 billion. FBR matched the overall tax collection figure at Rs9,300.2 billion.

The fiscal deficit narrowed to 2.6% of GDP, and the primary balance showed a surplus of Rs3,468.7 billion, equivalent to 3.0% of GDP.

From July 2024 to April 2025, remittances totaled $31.2 billion, marking a 31% year-on-year rise from $23.8 billion in FY2024.

Aurangzeb said this “was instrumental in supporting the $1.9 billion current account surplus.”

Inflation

On the monetary front, CPI inflation averaged 4.7% during July–April FY2025, with April 2025 inflation dipping to 0.3%, marking a multi-decade low.

While core inflation figures were not explicitly stated, the State Bank of Pakistan reduced the policy rate by 1,100 basis points since June 2024 in response to easing price pressures. The KIBOR also declined to 11.3%.

The exchange rate stabilised at Rs278.72 per dollar, and foreign reserves reached $16.64 billion.
