Two students from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mardan have developed a prototype of an electroencephalogram (EEG)-based wheelchair that can be controlled through brain signals. This groundbreaking invention aims to significantly improve the quality of life for quadriplegic patients.

Mohammad Dawood and Mohammad Faizan Akhtar, under the supervision of Dr. Jawad Ali, have designed and built this advanced wheelchair prototype. The wheelchair system comprises an EEG headset and a battery-powered wheelchair capable of carrying loads up to 250 kilograms. The headset detects the brain’s electrical activity when the user thinks about moving in a particular direction. These signals are then transmitted to an Arduino microcontroller, which processes the commands and activates the motors accordingly. The wheelchair also features a physical joystick and a Bluetooth gadget for additional control options.

Mohammad Dawood highlighted the everyday challenges faced by wheelchair users, especially the elderly and partially disabled, in operating conventional electric and mechanical wheelchairs. “Our goal is to design a system that receives signals from the brain and moves accordingly. By the system, we mean accumulator sensors. The sensor converts the raw form of a signal into an electrical signal. We can control the wheelchair through different brain waves such as alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and theta,” Dawood explained.

Mohammad Faizan Akhtar emphasized the potential impact of their innovation on the lives of patients. “This wheelchair will make life easier for patients by providing a more intuitive and effortless way to move around. It can be used by any person with an active brain,” Akhtar noted. The design aims to provide greater independence to individuals who rely on wheelchairs, reducing their dependency on others for mobility.

A person suffering from a heat stroke should be rushed to the hospital immediately. To diagnose, here are some of the identifiers displayed by someone suffering from a heat stroke.

  • A dry and swollen tongue

Ways to Prevent Heatstroke

  1. Make sure you dress yourself and your kids in “minimal, loose-fitting and lightweight clothing.”
  2. Drink plenty of fluids
  3. Take regular showers more than once a day
  4. Keep the environment as cool as possible – keep curtains were drawn and minimal light
  5. Be extra careful while administering any medicines since they may have certain harmful side effects (including causing dehydration)
  6. Never stay in a parked car or any confined space without proper ventilation
  7. Replace fatty foods with low-fat alternatives
  8. Keep out of the sun
  9. Avoid using any heat radiating devices such as hair straighteners and hair dryers
  10. Limit your physical exhaustion by limiting physical activity
  11. Try to stay away from kitchens and laundry rooms

However, if someone is already suffering from a heat stroke, make sure you follow the following steps while waiting for an ambulance:

Emergency Steps for Heatstroke Patients

  1. Wet their skin with water or wrap it in wet cloth after removing as much clothing from their body as possible or give them an ice bath
  2. Fan continuously
  3. Do not give the person fluids to drink
  4. Position an unconscious person on their side and clear their airway
  5. Apply ice packs to the patient’s armpits, groin, neck, and back (These areas are rich with blood vessels and close to the skin so cooling them may reduce body temperature)
  6. Monitor their body temperature and continue cooling efforts until the body temperature drops below 38C.

(Note: poorly ventilated or confined areas, or engaging in vigorous physical activity in hot weather increases the risk of dehydration and heat strokes)

Police on Monday registered a case against a Lahore beauty parlour owner and staff for secretly filming female customers in Faisal Town. The case was filed against the beauty parlour owner, Aroosa. Also her employees, Kinza, Sana, and Mubashira, following a complaint from a female client who discovered she had been secretly filmed.

The client noticed the employees acting suspiciously. Soon after some more observation, she noticed she was being recorded. The matter was then recorded by the cleint as evidence. Currently, the appropriate authorities are investigating the incident and those guilty.

Secret Filming Scandal in Lahore Beauty Parlour and Girls’ Hostel

Earlier this Sunday, another disturbing incident came to light. Hidden cameras were discovered in a private girls’ hostel in Lahore. This incident took place in Johar Town. Over here, the cameras were found installed inside the hostel’s washroom. Soon after, a case was registered against the hostel owner. Moreover, against his wife, and seven other suspects too. All happened after a student’s uncle lodged a complaint.

Later, according to police officials, the accused fled the scene. This has led to the hostel being vacated and out of business. The investigative team has recorded statements from over 40 students who were residing in the hostel. These students have confirmed the presence of hidden cameras in the washroom. Plus helped the police locate them as evidence.

Both of these incidents have shown a horrible invasion of privacy violations. More than that they have affected the safety of women in such establishments. The police are actively pursuing the investigation to bring the culprits to justice, by trying to locate those who have fled. Currently at this point, it is critical to ensure such breaches of privacy are prevented in the near future.

 

In Nawab Town, a beauty salon owner is in serious trouble after being accused of secretly recording her customers. Police registered a case on Wednesday against Rukhsana Amjad, the salon owner, following a complaint from two women, Esha and Areeba.

The two women took Rukhsana’s phone and checked it. To their shock, they discovered that not only had Rukhsana recorded their video, but she had also shared it with several people via WhatsApp. This invasion of privacy prompted Esha and Areeba to report the incident to the police.

The police have taken the complaint seriously and are investigating the matter. They are looking into the allegations to gather evidence and ensure justice for the victims.
