Authorities in Rawalpindi have ordered a complete blackout in all private housing societies due to rising security concerns. This decision comes after recent Indian airstrikes targeted multiple civilian areas across Pakistan.
An official notification from the city administration said the blackout will be enforced from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am every night, and it will stay in place until further notice.

Pakistan Military Authorised To Strike India ‘At Time, Place And Manner Of Own Choosing’
On Wednesday, the National Security Committee (NSC) authorised the Pakistan military to take appropriate action in response to Indian airstrikes that targeted multiple civilian areas.
The strikes, launched overnight on May 6-7, hit locations in Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muzaffarabad. The attack led to civilian deaths, including women and children and caused damage to civilian infrastructure such as mosques and the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project.
The NSC’s statement condemned the Indian attack, calling it “unprovoked, cowardly and unlawful.”It highlighted that India’s strikes were based on the false claim of targeting terrorist camps and resulted in civilian casualties. The NSC also emphasised that these attacks endangered commercial airlines, as 57 international flights were passing through Pakistani airspace at the time. Pakistan’s military has reserved the right to respond to this aggression, under Article 51 of the UN Charter, which allows for self-defence.
DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed 26 civilian deaths and 46 injuries caused by 24 airstrikes on six different locations. In Bahawalpur, 13 people, including two three-year-old girls, were martyred. Three fatalities occurred near Muzaffarabad after an attack on Bilal Mosque, while the Abbas Mosque in Kotli saw two teenagers killed. Additionally, the Indian army firing along the Line of Control resulted in five civilian deaths, including a five-year-old child.
The attack on Pakistan’s water infrastructure, including the Nauseri Dam, was condemned as a dangerous escalation. Lt Gen Chaudhry remarked that targeting water resources raises serious concerns about India’s compliance with international humanitarian law. He stressed that Pakistan’s aircraft did not cross into Indian airspace, and no Indian aircraft were allowed into Pakistani territory. Supreme Court Sets Aside Decision Opposing Civilian Trials by Military
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reinstated the Pakistan Army Act in its original form, reversing its earlier October 23, 2023, decision that had struck down some of its provisions as unconstitutional. In a 5-2 majority verdict, the top court accepted appeals submitted by the Ministry of Defence and others. The Court brought back Sections 2(1)(d)(i), 2(1)(d)(ii), and 59(4) of the Act.
Justices Aminuddin Khan, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Musarrat Hilali, Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Shahid Waheed supported the decision. Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Naeem Akhtar Afghan dissented. The court ordered Parliament to amend the law within 45 days to allow military court convicts to independently appeal in high courts. The court will issue a detailed written judgment later.
This ruling follows the court’s December 13, 2024, verdict, which conditionally allowed military courts to announce reserved verdicts. After that, military courts sentenced many civilians for their involvement in the May 9 riots.
On December 21, military courts sentenced 25 civilians to prison for attacking military installations during the May 9 unrest. Sentences ranged from two to ten years. In the days that followed, courts convicted 60 more civilians on similar charges and handed them comparable prison terms.
On January 2, 2025, the military granted mercy to 19 convicts by accepting their petitions on humanitarian grounds. This decision provided some relief to those individuals.

The research described a chilling exchange: Pakistan firing 10 tactical nukes on Day 1 and 15 additional ones on Day 2. India’s response, as expected, would be 20 strategic nuclear airbursts on Pakistani military bases and nuclear storage facilities, causing gigantic fires and smoke plumes akin to Hiroshima.

Twenty six people were killed and dozens were wounded according to latest updates. Those killed included teenagers and children – the youngest of whom was three years old. Ten civilians in Indian-administered Kashmir were also killed in shelling by Pakistani troops from across the border, according to the Indian Army.

The Indian military has dubbed its missile strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir as “Operation Sindoor.” Sindoor is the Hindi word for vermilion, a red pigment that married Hindu women often apply to their foreheads. The name of India’s military operation is an apparent reference to the manner in which the attackers shot their victims in Pahalgam on April 22. In the days following the attack, an image of a woman lying next to the lifeless body of her husband went viral, becoming a symbol of the pain and heartbreak endured by victims, specially women who lost their husbands and got widowed.
However, despite the emotional dubbing of the operation, it must also be noted that these same widowed wives were being harrassed on social media when they tried to voice their opinions for peace.

It started last week when she urged people not to target Muslims or Kashmiris as emotions ran high across the country. “People going against Muslims or Kashmiris – we don’t want this. We want peace and only peace,” Ms Narwal told reporters at a blood donation camp held by the family on what would have been her husband’s 27th birthday.
Her appeal for peace sparked a swift backlash. Within hours, many of the internet users who had earlier mourned her loss were posting abusive comments.

Confirmation of the fourth and fifth Indian jets being taken down came after 5am by Tarar and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. “We shot jets down in Akhnoor, Ambala, Barnala and in Jammu. We also shot down quadcopters and a big drone,” he stated. “It is an ongoing situation, we need to see what India does.”
Tarar further said that “several” posts of the Indian army across the border had been destroyed by the armed forces. He recalled that Pakistan had called for a probe into the Pahalgam attack but India “conducted this attack and then fled from it. It is a cause of shame for them that they targeted innocent labourers and citizens,” he added. According to the minister, Pakistan did not target any civilians in India in its retaliatory actions.
There was no word from India on the downing of the jets, which would be the most serious loss for the Indian military in decades and risked further escalation.

The two countries have regrettably become embroiled in a succession of wars ever since gaining freedom from British rule in 1947. Their conflicts have considerably defined their relations and, in extension, South Asia’s geopolitics. The very partition of British India itself resulted in gigantic violence and large-scale displacement, thus establishing a bitter tone from the very onset of their life as independent countries. The Major Wars: Wounds on the Subcontinent
First Kashmir War (1947-1948):
Soon after independence, the two nations waged war over the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Hindu Maharaja of Kashmir decided to accede to India, even though Kashmir was a Muslim-majority area. This immediately resulted in an armed conflict. A UN-sponsored ceasefire finally ended the war, but it also left Kashmir divided by a Line of Control (LoC), which remains one of the main flashpoints today.
The 1965 War:

Today’s moves on the part of India, with which many Pakistani citizens view them as an explicit act of warfare, might, in some way, perhaps unwittingly be giving that exact impetus toward unity. Politics, regional agendas, and societal differences often take a backseat when the country feels itself cornered and its back against the wall. Suddenly, the group’s attention turns from internal conflicts to the outside threat.
Social Media Unity
This unity has been most prominently visible on social media, where the youth is openly expressing their collective disdain for the current situation. While we may have differing opinions on various issues, when it comes to the safety and sovereignty of our nation, we stand united. Despite its flaws, the support for Pakistan and its army has been apparent, demonstrating that in times like these, all Pakistanis are united, and no enemy can undermine our country.
This is not the first time that Pakistan has been in such trying times. In fact, our past has numerous instances where outside pressures have created a more determined internal resolve. The image of our leadership conducting crisis meetings, the news of our military actively defending our borders, and the collective concern echoing in every home – these are indeed strong unifying forces. Therefore, the story tends to shift from “us versus us” to “us versus them.”

This coming together, the result of adversity, can thus be viewed as a silver lining, no matter how tenuous, on the dark clouds of war.

The way forward is uncertain. Tensions remain extremely high between the two countries. But, as Pakistan weathers this dangerous phase, the mettle of its people, their innate ability to unify when it counts most, will be its biggest strength. This crisis, to a large extent engendered by forces beyond our control, may well be the crisis that reminds all Pakistanis of the abiding power of national solidarity. This, in the end, is a power that our neighbours should not underrate.

Govt May Increase Taxes On Agri Inputs In Budget 2025-26
The government plans to reduce the super tax on company profits from 10% to 8%. Officials explained, “The government needs to identify new tax measures to offset the Rs28 billion loss in revenue caused by the super tax reduction.” It would necessitate that the Government generate some other source of revenue. Such tax changes are meant to help achieve the Rs14.3 trillion revenue target for the fiscal year 2025/26, established by the Pakistan Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The IMF has already requested new tax measures to support this target. Talks with the IMF will start on May 14.
The government has also agreed to raise taxes on agricultural inputs. It informed the IMF that its large-scale interventions in agricultural markets, including fertilisers, “no longer serve their purpose.” This move signals a policy shift to address inefficiencies.
The IMF argues that low taxes on fertilisers and pesticides hurt economic growth and the environment. According to the IMF, these low taxes “stifle private sector activity and innovations,” cause “price volatility and hoarding,” and “potentially undermine fiscal sustainability.” The IMF, therefore, supports raising these taxes.
Starting in January 2025, farmers will pay income tax, with rates above 45%. They face ongoing challenges from climate change, poor water storage, and the sudden removal of crop price support. As a result, their financial burden will increase.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the PPP called for more government support for agriculture. However, officials explained that the IMF deal limits major changes, even if the PPP disagrees.
The government also plans to reduce the tax-free period for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) from 10 years to 9 years, effective July. They have informed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that they will choose to discontinue certain tax breaks and subsidies for SEZs, which will have a significant impact on fiscal policies.
AT Kearney is preparing a report on the fiscal costs of SEZs, due by the end of June. Based on this, the government will phase out SEZ tax incentives by 2035, except for those protected by contracts.

Buddy Hield Steps Up in Warriors Win as Stephen Curry's Playoff Status Becomes Uncertain
The Golden State Warriors battled through a difficult night and won Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, 99-88. They did so without Stephen Curry, who left the game early in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. Curry had just knocked down a mid-range jumper when he grabbed the back of his left leg. The Warriors ruled him out for the rest of the game. They are now wondering what comes next in the playoffs without their star.
Despite Curry not being in the lineup, the Warriors found a way to step up. Buddy Hield was the leader, just days removed from a tremendous night in Game 7 against Houston. Hield scored 24 points and shot 5-for-8 from three. He played with a level of calm and confidence that we never saw from his game at Oklahoma, and he has shown he can play under duress. At one point, Hield even caused a stoppage for a humorous suggestion when he was wearing the incorrect shorts. Notice that he did not change them, making it a funny moment for everyone.
Draymond Green was impressive, scoring four three-pointers in the first half and finishing with 18 points. His scoring contribution was critical. Jimmy Butler had a fantastic all-around game, adding 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. The Warriors dressed all 12 of their players and played great defence. Their effort on defence limited Minnesota from getting into any rhythm, specifically from a distance.
The Timberwolves struggled horrendously from three-point range. They missed their first 16 three-point attempts. Naz Reid finally broke the ice with a three-pointer that was made with 8:32 left in the third quarter. By then, Minnesota was down by 20 points and was not able to recover from that deficit.
Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 23 points and a whopping 14 rebounds, though he started the game slowly. Reid and Julius Randle added 19 and 16 points, respectively. The Timberwolves made only five of their 29 attempts from three-point range and were down as much as 23 points at one time in the game.
Game 2 is on Thursday, and we will have to see if Curry can return. Based on what happened on Tuesday, Hield’s great game and the depth of the Warriors could help keep their championship hopes alive.

This was not an engagement between two armies — it was state-sponsored terrorism masquerading as strategy. The so-called world’s “largest democracy” has shown the world the true face of its militarised Hindutva regime: bloodthirsty, deceitful and morally bankrupt.
Civilians Slaughtered While the World Slept
While the world slept, Indian missiles ripped through the skies over border villages in Punjab and Azad Kashmir. These locations included sites like Kotli, Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh and Muzaffarabad. Homes and mosques were the sole targets in these areas.
Children screamed and mothers wept as the death toll included people who had no connection to any combat or conflict.
Civilians Slaughtered While the World Slept
Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said at least 26 people were killed and 46 injured. India’s government said in a statement early on Wednesday that its military had attacked “terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.”
The military structures in question? Mosques and houses. Remember a child went to sleep last night, coddled by his mother and didn’t know he wouldn’t see the morning sun because his poor family had become “terrorist targets” by a fascist government in the middle of the night.
Where is the outrage from the so-called champions of human rights? Where is the global condemnation? Or is Pakistani blood so cheap that it does not stir the conscience of the international community?
This attack is not an isolated incident. It is part of a dangerous, decades-long pattern of Indian aggression, misinformation and warmongering. From the false flag of the Pahalgam attack (that still has no proof of Pakistan’s involvement) to fabricated surgical strikes, India has mastered the art of lies while its media parrots government propaganda like obedient foot soldiers.
Their aim is clear: provoke Pakistan into a large-scale war, frame us as aggressors, and play victim to the world. It’s a page torn straight from the manipulator’s playbook.
Pakistan repeatedly called for de-escalation and offered support for an investigation into the Pahalgam attack. India responded by committing a war crime by killing civilians, including a little boy, in the middle of the night. We’ve pushed for dialogue, even when every effort was slapped away with hostility. But let it be clear: our patience is not our weakness. It is our moral superiority.
What honour is there in war when it’s waged against the defenceless? Where is the valour in launching stealth strikes against villages with no military presence? It takes no courage to murder civilians. It takes no bravery to burn homes. India’s latest actions are not those of a rising regional power but of a rogue state acting with impunity, backed by silence from global powers too afraid or too complicit to call it out.
Where is the United Nations? Where is the condemnation from the United States, the EU, or the so-called defenders of global peace? Their silence is not neutrality. It is complicity.
Had this been the other way around, the global media would have been bombarded with headlines. But because the victims are Pakistanis, the world turns its head. The West must answer: Do human rights only matter when they align with your foreign policy interests?
A Dangerous Turning Point
India’s midnight attack on Pakistani civilians marks a dangerous escalation in regional tensions. What unfolded was not a traditional military engagement; it was a strike against unarmed, sleeping innocents. The loss of life, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the disregard for international norms demand global attention and accountability.
This event reinforces long-standing concerns about India’s aggressive posture and its willingness to act unilaterally, without provocation or warning. While Pakistan has consistently advocated for peace, restraint, and dialogue, such actions test the limits of that patience.
