Pakistan Downs 25 Israeli-Made Harop Drones Used by India: ISPR
Pakistan’s military announced the successful downing of 25 Israeli-made Harop drones launched by India over various cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Karachi. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the drones were intercepted using both electronic countermeasures (soft-kill techniques) and conventional weaponry (hard-kill systems).Debris from these drones has been recovered from multiple locations across Pakistan.
ISPR termed these drone incursions as a “desperate and panicked response” by India following Pakistan’s retaliatory operations on May 6 and 7, during which five Indian fighter jets were downed, and several military posts were struck. The military’s media wing emphasised that India has suffered substantial losses along the Line of Control (LoC) in recent days.
In a press briefing, Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that the drones were successfully neutralised in multiple cities. He added that a 13th drone partially struck a military target near Lahore, causing minimal damage to equipment.Four Pakistan Army personnel were injured in a drone attack in Lahore, while one civilian was martyred in Miano, Sindh.
The military spokesperson highlighted that these attempts are part of a continued pattern of aggression and affirmed that Pakistan’s forces remain on high alert to defend the country’s airspace and territorial integrity.Referring to the destruction of five Indian aircraft by the Pakistan Air Force, DG ISPR stated that India “apparently lost the plot”and suffered heavy casualties along the LoC.
He emphasised that the international community can clearly witness the dangerous trajectory India is following through these provocative military actions, which are threatening not just regional stability but also broader global security.
NSAs of Pakistan and India Establish Contact
Meanwhile, National Security Advisers of Pakistan and India have established contact following India’s missile strikes inside Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.Pakistan’s NSA, Lieutenant General Asim Malik, who also serves as DG ISI, spoke to his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval, in efforts to seek de-escalation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the contact but did not provide further details. It is believed that international and regional diplomatic efforts facilitated this communication.Additionally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also holds the position of NSA, spoke to both Pakistani and Indian NSAs following the missile strikes and Pakistan’s response.

May 8th is Ovarian Cancer Day, the day set apart to make more people aware of one of the deadliest forms of cancer found among women. This is the reason it has been nicknamed a “silent killer” because it presents symptoms difficult to detect until its advanced stage. Yet some minimal changes in lifestyles can reduce the risk of falling prey to the disease.
Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet
A nutritious diet is one of the easiest methods to enhance your health and decrease the risk of most diseases, including ovarian cancer. Increasing consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats may help keep your body healthy. Restrict processed foods, red meat, and sweetened beverages. These types of foods tend to cause inflammation and increase the risk of some cancers.
Including antioxidant-rich foods — such as berries, greens, and nuts — can boost your immune system. Adequate hydration and keeping a healthy weight are also part of cancer prevention.
What to Eat and What to Avoid to Prevent Ovarian Cancer
Stay Physically Active
Regular exercise is another big ammunition for staying healthy. Research suggest that exercise can reduce the risk of ovarian and other cancers. It doesn’t have to be fanatical — a mere 30 minutes of brisk walking five times a week can work wonders. Exercise benefits hormone balance, weight regulation, and enhances immune function.
If there’s a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, it’s crucial to discuss with your doctor. You might be at greater risk and would profit from genetic testing or early screening. It’s not just about knowing your risk but about understanding your risk so that it provides you with the opportunity to take early action, and that saves lives.
Listen to Your Body
Symptoms of ovarian cancer may be misleading. Bloating, the need to urinate often, stomach discomfort, and feeling fullness after eating small amounts may feel routine, but if they persist for weeks, do not brush them off. Detection at an early stage makes treatment more possible.
Stop Smoking and Drink in Moderation
Smoking and excessive drinking have been associated with numerous cancers. Stopping smoking and moderate drinking are actions you can take to preserve long-term health.
Though there’s no surefire means to avoid ovarian cancer, these easy lifestyle changes can lower your risk. Awareness, prompt action, and healthy living mean a lot. On this World Ovarian Cancer Day, let’s make more women aware of their health and motivate them to look after themselves.

This International Thalassemia Day, Meet Talha Ahmed: Pakistan's Youngest Content Creator Spreading Joy While Fighting the Disease
Every year on May 8, the world observes International Thalassemia Day to raise awareness about this inherited blood disorder and to celebrate the strength and resilience of those living with it. Among the countless stories of courage, one name shines brightly in Pakistan. Talha Ahmed, a young boy with a big smile, a bigger heart and an unshakable passion for spreading joy through digital content.
At just 16 years old, Talha Ahmed has become one of Pakistan’s youngest and most inspiring content creators. While most kids his age are still discovering their interests, Talha is already building a loyal following on social media platforms where he posts entertaining videos, skits, and motivational messages—all while battling thalassemia major, a serious condition that requires regular blood transfusions and lifelong medical care.
Talha’s Story with Content Creation and Thalassemia
Talha was diagnosed with thalassemia major shortly after birth. His condition requires him to undergo regular blood transfusions and constant medical supervision. Despite the hardships, Talha’s family made it their mission to provide him with a life full of joy, love and encouragement.
Talha began his journey as a digital creator in July 2024. Playing multiple characters himself, he writes, shoots, and edits all his content independently. His videos often offer a critique of shallow online trends, wrapped in subtle humour and strong messages.
“I have had Thalassemia since childhood, but I never let it dominate my life,” Talha said. He added that he continued his studies and actively participated in daily activities despite his health challenges. “My work is my identity now, not my illness,” he affirmed.
Despite his illness, he brings smiles with pure, clean comedy, showing that strength lies in spreading joy, not in hardship. This has earned him over 549,000 followers on Instagram in less than a year.
Behind Talha’s brave face is a network of unwavering support. His family, particularly his mother, plays a pivotal role in nurturing his dreams while managing his healthcare needs. The local thalassemia community and medical teams have also championed his journey, turning his online presence into a platform for positive change.
Thalassaemia is an inherited (genetically transmitted) autosomal recessive disorder acquired from parents (either or both). It affects red blood cells due to a genetic mutation, leading to the depletion of haemoglobin’s alpha and/or beta-globin chains. This results in low production of red blood cells and a lack of oxygenated blood supply to the body parts (anaemia).
The first World Thalassemia Day, or International Thalassemia Day, was declared on May 8, 1994, by Panos Englezos, the president and founder of the Thalassemia International Federation (TIF). In honour of his (Panos Englezos) son George and the numerous thalassemia patients who battled this disease, Panos Englezos established this day.
Talha is an Inspiration for All Thalassemia Patients
Talha’s influence extends beyond the digital world. Through his work, he has become not just a content creator but also a young ambassador of hope and resilience.
As the world comes together this International Thalassemia Day, Talha Ahmed reminds us that strength can come from the most unexpected places. His life is a testament to the power of joy, creativity, and community support in overcoming adversity. In his own words: “I might have thalassemia, but thalassemia doesn’t have me.”

Good starts have come from Tim Seifert and David Warner, while good support in the middle order has been provided by Irfan Khan.
Pitch and Conditions
The game will be held at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Theoretically, this ground supports chasing sides, and all six matches played here so far in the season have been won by the second batting team. The average score for the first innings is 131, and for the second innings, it is 148.
In their last match this season, Karachi Kings defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 2 wickets in a close-fought game.

Match Prediction
Considering the recent performance and past head-to-head experiences, Karachi Kings seem to be marginally better. But recent performances by Peshawar Zalmi suggest that they are also likely to pull off an upset. Fans can look for an intense match as both teams fight for a big win to add momentum to their playoff hopes.
Note: The match schedule and venue are prone to change following security evaluations and PCB decisions.

The Struggle Continues: Dozens of Pro-Palestinian Students Protest at Columbia University
On Wednesday, several dozen pro-Palestinian students occupied the Butler Library of Columbia University, converting the Lawrence A. Wein Reading Room into the epicentre of a budding protest movement. Protesters stood on tables, drummed, and held up signs that read “Strike for Gaza” and “Liberated Zone.” The protest aimed at targeting the university’s financial relationships with Israel and weapons manufacturers.
Most protesters had their faces masked. When more students attempted to gain access to the library, Columbia public safety officials closed the doors, causing pushing and physical clashes. Students were threatened by university officials that they would be disciplined and possibly arrested if they refused to leave.
The demonstration was led by Columbia University Apartheid Divest, a coalition of student organisations. They called on the university to divest its investments linked to its $14.8 billion endowment in companies that provide weapons or are backing Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands.
Protest leaders insisted that their grievances are human rights-related, not hate. They decried the attempt to associate their activism with antisemitism. In fact, numerous Jewish students were participating in the protest, demonstrating solidarity with Palestinian causes and refuting what they described as a political leadership-induced false narrative.

Columbia and the Trump Administration Clash Over Protests
Strains between Columbia and the Trump administration have mounted. In March, the White House withdrew hundreds of millions of dollars in federal research funding from the university. President Trump has consistently referred to pro-Palestinian campus demonstrations as “anti-American” and “antisemitic.”
He also vowed to deport foreign students involved in these demonstrations, citing they are a danger to U.S. foreign policy. Protesters decried these moves as an assault on student rights and academic freedom.
Mayor Eric Adams reported Columbia called in the NYPD for help, and officers were sent to watch the campus. Protesters showed no signs of relenting, holding their sit-in even amid increasing police deployment.
Activists Demand Release of Mahmoud Khalil
In addition to their divestment demands, students also called for the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian Columbia graduate student. Police arrested Khalil last spring at a protest and housed him in an immigration detention centre in Louisiana. Protesters termed Khalil a political prisoner and vowed to campaign for his return.
The Columbia protest opens a new page in an ongoing movement that doesn’t appear to be letting up. Demonstrators vow to continue agitating until the university accedes to their demands.

No New Pope Elected on First Day, Black Smoke from Sistine Chapel Signals
The first day of voting ended with no new pope. As night fell, black smoke poured from the Sistine Chapel chimney. The message was unmistakable: the cardinals had not achieved the two-thirds majority needed to elect a new pope. Hundreds of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square, silently scanning the sky with their eyes. When the dark cloud appeared, a subdued wave of reaction washed over the crowds. The conclave will resume.
St. Peter’s Square
How the Smoke Gets its Colour
Although the ritual looks old-fashioned, the coloured smoke is a result of chemistry. Officials burn ballots after every vote in a dedicated stove. In order to produce black smoke, they mix potassium nitrate, anthracene, and sulfur. The combination creates heavy dark clouds.
White smoke, an indication of a successful vote, results from the burning of potassium chlorate, lactose, and pine resin. That combination produces a light white puff that rises.
Even in the age of technology, the Vatican remains true to this tradition. No warning or press announcements. Just smoke. It is a powerful reminder that some choices require time, prayer, and contemplation.
Cardinals vote secretly inside the chapel. They have no way of leaving, communicating with outsiders, or using any devices. Their mission: to select a leader who can shepherd more than a billion Catholics through contemporary challenges.
What Happens Next
Voting resumes tomorrow. The cardinals will vote as much as four times daily. Until white smoke emerges and bells ring out from the basilica, the world will continue to gaze skyward, holding its breath in anticipation.

Indian Drones Strike Nine Pakistani Cities on Thursday Morning, Reports DG ISPR
Pakistan’s military reported a major rise in tensions with India after Indian drones struck nine cities early Thursday. The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) said the attacks hit both urban centres and strategic sites.
Pakistani forces detected and intercepted the drones. While they neutralised several, some drones struck targets before being stopped. The attacks caused injuries and damaged property in multiple areas.
The strikes hit cities like Karachi and Lahore, along with locations in Punjab and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Officials said nearly half the drones were Israeli-made Harop models, known for precise targeting. One drone hit Sindh, injuring several civilians.
Pakistan claimed it shot down 12 drones that entered its airspace without clearance. The DG ISPR called the attacks “naked aggression” and warned of strong retaliation.
These drone strikes came just a day after India launched missile attacks on May 7, under Operation Sindoor. India said the strikes targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in Bahawalpur and Muridke. However, Pakistan reported that the strikes also destroyed two mosques and a school. The attack killed 31 civilians and injured 46 others.
India described its operation as retaliation. It linked the action to a militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 Hindu tourists. Indian officials blamed Pakistan-based militants. Pakistan denied any involvement.
The military actions have raised fears of a wider conflict between the nuclear-armed nations. Both sides have raised military readiness to the highest level.
In response, Pakistan cancelled all flights, increased border patrols, and activated hospital emergency plans.
The United Nations and other global organisations have urged both nations to show restraint. They have called for dialogue to prevent further escalation.

Just 10% of the World’s Richest Cause Two-Thirds of Global Warming, Study Shows
A new worldwide study has uncovered a startling fact: only 10% of the world’s richest individuals are accountable for approximately 66% of global carbon emissions. That is to say, the world’s richest individuals are contributing much more to climate change than the other 90% put together. The study indicates how disproportionate and unjust the climate crisis actually is.
How the Rich are Causing More Harm
The wealthy live in bigger homes, fly more frequently by air, particularly on private planes, and have more cars. They also use more electricity and luxury items. Everything contributes to a much greater carbon footprint per individual. For instance, one round-trip on a private plane can produce as much carbon dioxide as the average individual might in an entire year.
Even indulgent consumption patterns — such as owning yachts, first-class air travel, or the importation of expensive goods — can generate a great deal of emissions. In the meantime, most of the population lead far simpler lives with much less environmental footprint.
Ironically, the least contributors to global warming are the ones that are bearing its brunt the hardest. Low-income nations are already experiencing floods, heatwaves, famine, and subpar healthcare systems. The communities lack even the means to rebound from climate catastrophes and are thus more exposed than ever.
Just 10% of the World’s Richest Cause Two-Thirds of Global Warming, Study Shows
What Can be Done?
To address this issue, analysts feel that governments need to address the emissions of the affluent. That may involve imposing higher taxes on carbon-intensive luxury goods, implementing restrictions on personal air travel, and focusing more on sustainable production practices. All individuals must live an environmentally friendly lifestyle, but it is certain that the rich will have to change more.
Public transport, renewable energy, and climate education need to be increased worldwide. If we desire a greener and more equitable world, the biggest polluters must be made more accountable.
A Fairer Future is Possible
Climate justice means recognising that some people are causing more damage than others. The fight against climate change can’t succeed unless the people with the most resources lead the way in reducing emissions. This study is a reminder that climate action must also be about fairness, not just science.

"The Butcher of Gujarat Lives and He is the Prime Minister of India": A Look at Modi and RSS History
“The butcher of Gujarat lives, and he is the prime minister of India”
These were the words of the foreign minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto, as he addressed the UN Security Council back in 2022. This response was about the Gujarat massacre of 2002 and Modi’s association with the Indian RSS.
Back in the day, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s claims were overlooked. But today, as we face the horrific consequences of Modi’s fascist regime — we can’t help but wonder if perhaps our foreign minister was trying to warn us.
Bilawal Bhutto Called Modi the “Butcher of Gujarat”
“The butcher of Gujarat lives, and he is the prime minister of India,” Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari told a UN briefing room minutes after his Indian counterpart accused Pakistan of perpetuating terrorism and sheltering Osama bin Laden. “I would like to remind Mr Jaishankar that Osama bin Laden is dead, but the butcher of Gujarat lives, and he is the prime minister (of India),”said the Pakistani foreign minister while responding to Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs S. Jaishankar’s remarks.
“He (Narendra Modi) was banned from entering this country (the United States). These are the prime minister and foreign minister of RSS, which draws inspiration from Hitler’s SS,”he added.
The irony of it all is that Modi has always been portrayed as just a normal “tea seller” and almost no one knows his actual reality. His association with the RSS and how he has strategically forged all these lies to keep himself in power has always been hidden.
This brings up one question: Did Modi have some association with the Pahalgam attack? Possible. The breach of security and orchestration of all the events that followed, including almost immediately pointing the finger at Pakistan. Without any impartial investigation being carried out.
Why the ‘Butcher of Gujarat?’ The Gujarat Massacre
The phrase “Butcher of Gujarat” is not mere hyperbole. It is a moral indictment that continues to shadow Prime Minister Narendra Modi more than two decades after the 2002 Gujarat riots. In the wake of the Godhra train fire that killed 59 Hindu pilgrims, a genocidal wave of communal violence engulfed Gujarat under Modi’s watch as Chief Minister. Over 1,000 Muslims people were massacred, women raped.
Reports from Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International revealed shocking details, including that the police and government officials did little to stop the violence. Modi, who was the minister of the state, was accused of ignoring the cries for help, or worse, silently supporting the mob attacks. Desperate victims called the police, but many were turned away or ignored. These were not random riots. They were organised attacks, allowed to continue by a government that had already picked its targets.
Though India’s Supreme Court eventually absolved Modi of personal involvement, the question of moral and administrative responsibility remains unresolved in the eyes of many observers, especially outside India.
The Western World Retaliated
After the riots, some Western countries did take a stand. The United States refused to give Modi a visa in 2005 because of his role in the violence. The United Kingdom also cut off all diplomatic contact. These moves showed the world had not forgotten about Gujarat, but that changed quickly. When Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, economic and strategic interests became more important than justice. The US and UK welcomed him warmly, rolled out red carpets, and praised him for his economic ideas. No one talked about the bloodshed in Gujarat. The voices of the victims were silenced by the sound of applause in foreign capitals.
A democratically elected leader may have been legally exonerated, but the ethical stain lingers. That stain is only deepened by the ideological roots from which he emerged.
The RSS: The Ideological Cradle of Modi
To understand Narendra Modi is to understand the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). It is a hardline Hindu nationalist organisation that has functioned as the ideological mother ship for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and many of its leaders. Founded in 1925 by K.B. Hedgewar, the RSS champions the concept of “Hindutva”; an exclusivist vision of Indian identity rooted in Hindu culture and tradition.
From its early days, the RSS has been accused of drawing inspiration from fascist ideologies. Historical writings by key RSS figures praised Hitler’s methods of “national rejuvenation,” despite the obvious racial and religious atrocities attached to that history. The organisation’s goal has never been hidden: to establish a Hindu Rashtra (Hindu Nation), in which minorities (especially Muslims and Christians) would live as subordinate citizens.
Modi joined the RSS at the age of 8. He grew up steeped in its militant discipline, ideological rigidity and combative nationalism. He never attended college in the traditional sense and instead spent his formative years training in RSS shakhas (branches). Eventually, Modi became a full-time pracharak (campaigner) before transitioning into politics under the BJP’s umbrella.
A Regional Voice Against Modi’s Nationalism
Bhutto’s comments were more than rhetorical provocation. It was a stark reminder that Modi’s past is still a live issue in South Asia’s diplomatic theatre. The phrase “Butcher of Gujarat” was a piercing return of international focus on the 2002 riots—an event that India’s ruling party has long attempted to put behind it.
The confrontation didn’t end there. In early 2024, following Indian strikes allegedly targeting terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan, Bhutto again lashed out during an interview with Pakistani media. Without mincing words, he accused the Indian government of acting recklessly to shore up domestic political capital before elections, saying:
“India wants to create a war hysteria. Every time an election nears, they resort to aggression or jingoism to distract their own population from issues of inflation, joblessness, and intolerance.”
He further warned that India’s actions could destabilise the region and urged international powers to intervene diplomatically to prevent escalation.
Bhutto’s comments reflect a broader concern among India’s neighbours and global observers: that Modi’s aggressive nationalism and authoritarian tendencies are not merely domestic matters but pose wider geopolitical risks. For critics, India under Modi is not just a challenge to secularism at home—but to peace in the region.
Modi’s Regime: A Cult
Modi’s political persona is not just the product of careful PR: it’s an extension of the RSS ideal of masculine Hindu strength. He projects authority, austerity and an almost extremist perspective to the nation of India. The media portrayal of Modi often borders on mythmaking: he is portrayed as incorruptible, tireless and above criticism.
This deification serves a purpose. It is a model strikingly familiar to authoritarian regimes — strongman politics cloaked in democratic legitimacy.
India’s Secular Soul on the Brink
Narendra Modi’s RSS-backed rule represents a fundamental reimagining of India. It is not the secular, pluralistic nation envisioned by the framers of the Constitution, but as a Hindu-first policy where minorities exist by sufferance, not by right. The consequences are already visible especially amid the current India-Pak war situation. Extremist nationalism is boasted to an extent where the Indian masses no longer think that killing an innocent three year old is a war crime.
However, they must also remember that history, unlike politics, is less forgiving. And the world will remember. The nation of Pakistan will remember. And as said by our foreign minister, we will not kneel.

Quetta Gladiators mystery spinner Usman Tariq has been officially cleared of his suspect bowling action — and that’s a massive boost for the playoff-bound side.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dropped a welcome announcement on Wednesday: Usman Tariq is in the clear. The 27-year-old spinner, who had been under scrutiny for a suspect action, has passed his bowling assessment at the PCB-accredited biomechanics lab in Lahore.
This means he’s now eligible to bowl without restrictions, just as Quetta heads into the business end of PSL 10.
Let’s rewind a bit. Tariq was reported last month by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown during Quetta’s clash against Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi.
Although PSL rules allowed him to continue bowling after the report, Quetta management made a smart move. They voluntarily took him out of action and asked the PCB to fast-track his testing. Instead of risking further controversy or suspension, they chose caution. And now, it’s paid off.
According to the PCB’s official statement:
“Usman was reported for a suspect bowling action on 13 April during an HBL PSL X match against Lahore Qalandars. Following this, the Quetta Gladiators management requested the PCB to allow the bowler to undergo testing, consequent to which he has cleared the bowling assessment.”
Not The First Time
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Tariq’s action has come under the microscope. He was also reported during PSL 9 in a match against Karachi Kings.
For a spinner who thrives on mystery and variations, it’s not uncommon to attract attention. But getting cleared twice now should give both the player and his team confidence moving forward.
PSL 10: Islamabad United to Face Quetta Gladiators Today- What to Expect
Just when the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 was heating up on the field, a serious off-field development has started to take centre stage — and it’s got fans on edge.
According to credible reports from Geo Super, the ongoing PSL 10 could face a sudden and indefinite postponement. The reason? Escalating tensions between India and Pakistan have now raised major security concerns across the country, especially around PSL venues.
A crucial high-level meeting between the Ministry of Interior and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is scheduled to assess the security threat and decide whether the tournament can safely continue.
The outcome of this meeting could determine the fate of PSL 10, and honestly, things aren’t looking too bright right now.
Spy Drone Near Pindi Stadium
What’s really spooked everyone is a serious breach in security. Reports suggest that a spy drone was spotted — and taken down — near Rawalpindi’s Food Street, alarmingly close to the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
🚨 An Indian drone crashed near the food street adjacent to #Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium after colliding with a tree. The crash caused a fire at the site. On one hand, we are attacking India through social media; on the other hand, all of this is being watched . What’s going on? pic.twitter.com/tKs10Nikd1
The stadium, mind you, is currently one of the central hubs for PSL 10 matches. In fact, it’s set to host a big clash between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings at 8 PM tonight. But with this drone incident, that match—and possibly the rest of the schedule—could be hanging by a thread.
Airspace Issues and Logistics Headaches
Beyond the drone incident, the closure of airspace amid growing regional unrest is another massive red flag. With teams, broadcasters, support staff, and even fans needing to travel between cities, restricted air travel could seriously derail PSL logistics.
Sources say that unless there’s a drastic de-escalation in the current situation, postponements or cancellations seem increasingly likely.
The PCB now finds itself at a crossroads. On one hand, they have a tournament that’s not just a sporting event, but a celebration of cricket that unites fans from all over Pakistan.
On the other, there’s the undeniable priority of player and public safety. Postponing the league isn’t just about rescheduling matches—it’s about reshuffling team availability, broadcaster commitments, sponsorship contracts, and so much more. The ripple effect could last months.
The Bigger Picture: Cricket in a Geopolitical Crossfire
This isn’t the first time cricket has felt the tremors of geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan—and sadly, it may not be the last.
But this time, it’s not a bilateral series or a diplomatic deadlock. It’s a domestic T20 league, in Pakistan, at home, and yet, outside forces are threatening its continuity.
For now, nothing is official. But the mood is tense, and the uncertainty is real. As fans, all we can do is hope for cooler heads to prevail and for cricket to continue doing what it does best—bringing joy, unity, and a bit of much-needed distraction from everything else happening in the world.
Let’s hope tonight’s game goes ahead. But even more importantly, let’s hope everyone involved—players, fans, staff—stays safe.

Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot Airports Shut Down Temporarily Amid Security Threats
The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) suspended all flights at Lahore, Sialkot, and Karachi airports on Thursday. Some sources also mentioned Islamabad Airport, suggesting its closure might be final. The PAA stated operations would remain halted until noon due to growing regional tensions and operational challenges.
Flights at Lahore and Sialkot were stopped because of “the current security situation” tied to rising tensions between Pakistan and India. While Islamabad’s airport remains open, the PAA cited “operational reasons” for its status.
Over 18 flights have been affected so far. The PAA urged passengers to check with their airlines for updates on flight changes and schedules.
Airport authorities linked the suspension to national security concerns. They emphasised the need to protect passengers and ensure flight safety during this tense period.
Just a day before, the PAA had announced that all airports had returned to normal operations after a short closure of national airspace. But now, flight activity has again been disrupted, especially in major hubs.
The disruptions followed Indian military strikes late Tuesday into early Wednesday. These missile attacks hit several parts of Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and densely populated areas in Punjab.
In response, Pakistan’s military said it shot down four Indian Air Force (IAF) jets and a combat drone. They also claimed to have destroyed an Indian brigade headquarters in retaliation.
The PAA has not confirmed if the suspension will continue after noon. Authorities asked travellers to stay alert and follow updates from airlines and airport officials.
No further details have been released about future airspace usage or flight schedules. The situation remains tense, and more developments are expected.

Pakistan Shoots Down 12 Indian Drones in Multiple Areas
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, head of Inter-Services Public Relations, announced on Thursday that Pakistan’s armed forces intercepted and destroyed 12 Indian drones that attempted to enter the country.
At a news conference, he explained that Indian drones crossed into Pakistani territory on May 7 and 8. “India last night did another egregious act of military aggression towards Pakistan by sending Herap drones to proliferate locations,”he told reporters.
The military shot down the drones in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Karachi, Chor, Miano, and Attock.
A 13th drone struck near a military site close to Lahore and damaged some equipment. “Four personnel from the Pakistan Army were injured in a drone strike in Lahore, whereas one civilian was martyred in Miano, Sindh,” he said.
He said these intrusions reflect a clear pattern of Indian aggression. He added that Pakistan’s forces are fully alert and ready to defend the nation’s airspace and territory.
Referring to a recent air battle, he said the Pakistan Air Force shot down five Indian aircraft. “India has evidently lost the plot,” he stated, pointing out the heavy Indian casualties along the Line of Control.
This drone episode followed an Indian missile attack that killed 31 people and injured 57 in different parts of Pakistan. India claimed the missile strike was in retaliation for an April 22 attack that killed 26 Indian tourists.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and India’s National Security Advisers (NSAs) have started communication. Lt General Asim Malik, who serves as both Pakistan’s NSA and DG ISI, spoke with Indian NSA Ajit Doval. Officials believe the conversation is part of efforts to de-escalate tensions.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the contact. “Yes, Pakistan and Indian National Security Advisers are in touch,” he told The Express Tribune, though he didn’t share more details.
Sources said international and regional diplomatic pressure helped open this communication. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also holds the NSA role, spoke with both NSAs following the missile strikes and Pakistan’s military response.

If you didn’t know the name Hasan Nawaz before this week, you certainly do now.
The young Quetta Gladiators batter just pulled off something truly special—something only one other Pakistani player has ever achieved. With a blazing century in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and another earlier this year on international debut, Hasan Nawaz has joined the elite club of players with T20I and PSL hundreds in the same calendar year.
And yes, the only other member of that club? None other than Babar Azam.
A Night to Remember in Rawalpindi
It all happened under the floodlights at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Quetta Gladiators were up against Islamabad United in a high-stakes PSL 10 clash. And what unfolded was nothing short of a run-fest masterclass.
Hasan Nawaz smashed his maiden PSL century—a whirlwind 100 not out off just 45 balls. The innings was a mix of raw power and clean timing, as he cleared the ropes nine times and pierced the field for four boundaries.
The knock wasn’t just personal glory—it powered Quetta to 263/3, the highest-ever total in PSL history. Yes, you read that right—history was made.
A Consistent Match-Winner
But here’s the kicker—this wasn’t a one-off. Earlier this year, Hasan Nawaz announced himself on the international stage in style.
In a T20I series against New Zealand, he scored an unbeaten 105 off 45 balls, hitting 10 fours and 7 sixes. Much like his PSL ton, it was a knock that not only entertained but also sealed the win for Pakistan.
Two match-winning centuries in two high-pressure games. Both in the same year. Both against solid opposition. This isn’t hype. It’s reality.
In the Footsteps of Babar Azam
To truly understand the magnitude of Hasan’s achievement, we need to rewind to 2023, when Babar Azam hit a majestic 115 in the PSL for Peshawar Zalmi and followed it up with a T20I century against New Zealand later that year.
The difference? Babar’s PSL hundred came in a losing cause.
Hasan Nawaz, on the other hand, has turned both of his hundreds into team victories, showing not just individual brilliance, but an ability to deliver under pressure when it matters most.
Rossouw Joins the Party, United Face the Heat
Let’s not forget—Hasan wasn’t alone in turning up the heat. Rilee Rossouw also blasted a century, and the two combined to set a total that felt more like a mountain than a target.
Islamabad United never looked in control during the chase and were eventually bowled out 109 runs short, suffering one of the most crushing defeats in PSL history.
The result didn’t just dent morale—it damaged their Net Run Rate, dropping them to third on the table with a negative 0.044 NRR. Quetta, meanwhile, now sits comfortably on top with 13 points from 9 matches.

Pakistan,India NSAs Make Contact After Missile Strikes
After India launched missile strikes in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, the National Security Advisers (NSAs) of both countries made direct contact. Pakistan’s NSA, Lt General Asim Malik, who also heads the ISI, reached out to Indian NSA Ajit Doval.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated,“Yes, Pakistan and Indian National Security Advisers are in touch,” but shared no further details. A Pakistani official said these backchannel talks help manage crises effectively.
Several countries worked urgently to de-escalate the situation. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also serves as NSA, contacted both Pakistani and Indian NSAs soon after the strikes and the Pakistani response.
The National Security Committee warned that Pakistan would retaliate “at a place, time and manner of its choosing.” However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a National Assembly speech, hinted Pakistan may not respond further on the battlefield.
Sources said a third country had tipped off Pakistan about the Indian strikes. The same source also conveyed India’s message that it wanted to avoid escalation.
In 2019, India surprised Pakistan with airstrikes in Balakot after the Pulwama attack. Indian jets crossed the Line of Control for the first time since 1971. Pakistani leaders didn’t expect such a bold move from the Modi government. It took them a full day to decide how to respond.
This time, Pakistani forces were fully prepared. Officials said top leadership gave clear orders to strike back immediately if India attacked. When explosions occurred from Muzaffarabad to Bahawalpur, Pakistan confirmed the strike and launched a counterattack within an hour. The response came by both land and air.
DG ISPR Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan shot down five Indian fighter jets, including advanced Rafale jets from France. “Pakistan could have shot down 10 Indian fighter jets,” he stated during a press briefing. He added that Pakistan chose to show restraint.
Indian media avoided reporting on the losses. The Hindu initially confirmed three downed jets but later removed the story. A US commentator told CNN that losing Rafale jets would be a serious blow to India. India had been boasting about its air power since acquiring the French aircraft.
Experts noted that the incident tested both Chinese and Western military technology. Pakistan used J-10C fighter jets from China, bought after India added Rafales to its fleet.
A French intelligence officer confirmed to CNN that Pakistan had downed one Indian Rafale. This marked the first time a Rafale jet was lost in combat. The US commentator said this shows that China now possesses advanced military technology.

Three Explosions Cause Panic on Walton Road, Lahore
On Thursday, panic spread through Walton Road and nearby areas in Lahore when three loud explosions were heard one after another. The explosions happened within seconds of each other. Lahore Police confirmed that people several kilometres away could hear the blasts. They rushed out of their houses in a panic, and crowds started to form outside, not understanding the situation.
There were emergency response teams, including rescue units and firefighters, that arrived on scene. Police also arrived in large numbers and sealed off the area for investigation.
Police said they are actively investigating the source and cause of the explosions. The blasts took place near Gulberg, a high-security and upscale area in the city.
A Notice to Airmen (Notam) stated, “Several air routes within Lahore and Sialkot are closed for commercial flights.” Airport officials confirmed they had closed the routes earlier in the morning due to regional tensions. They expected the closure to continue until noon..
Authorities have blocked all unrelated individuals from entering the site. Bomb disposal squads and intelligence teams began their initial inspections shortly after the blasts.
Police and emergency services are working together at the scene. “The explosions happened within moments,” police stated. Investigations will reveal more details about the source of the blasts.
These explosions have caused concern among locals, especially because Gulberg is considered a sensitive and important part of Lahore. This incident happened just hours after air travel was affected in Lahore and Sialkot, raising more questions.
This is a developing story; more details will be shared as they become available.

School Holidays Extension News Is Fake: Punjab Govt
The Punjab government has clarified that a viral notification spreading on social media about school holidays being extended is fake. The claim suggested that due to rising tensions between Pakistan and India, school holidays are to be prolonged.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari gave a clear statement on Wednesday. She said, “The notification being shared online is completely fake.” She added that no decision has been made about extending school holidays.
Bukhari also requested the public to stop sharing or believing in fake notifications during such a sensitive situation. “Any decision regarding school closures will be made based on ground realities and through official channels only,” she said.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat also confirmed that no such order has been issued by the education department. He said, “Academic activities will continue as usual from tomorrow,” and added that the circulating notification has no official value and is baseless.
At the same time, Rawalpindi remains under a complete blackout due to ongoing security concerns. Authorities have asked people to only rely on official sources of the government for updates about schools and other important matters, especially during the current national security situation.
The government is focusing on avoiding panic and controlling the spread of false information. Officials are urging citizens to trust only what comes through official statements and to refrain from acting on unverified information.

Authorities Order Complete Blackout in Rawalpindi Amid India-Pakistan Conflict
Authorities in Rawalpindi have ordered a complete blackout in all private housing societies due to rising security concerns. This decision comes after recent Indian airstrikes targeted multiple civilian areas across Pakistan.
An official notification from the city administration said the blackout will be enforced from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am every night, and it will stay in place until further notice.
“All street lights must remain switched off during the night,” the notification clearly stated. It also instructed residents to switch off all outside lights, including those in porches and driveways.
The administration added that residents should cover all windows, reduce indoor lighting as much as possible, and avoid going out unless necessary during the blackout hours.
These steps aim to lower visibility from the air and protect people by making it harder for enemy aircrafts or drones to spot targets during the night. With tensions rising in the region, officials believe these precautions are important to keep the public safe.
City officials asked residents to cooperate fully with these safety instructions. They explained that everyone must take responsibility to support national security during this tense period.
The blackout is seen as a way to prepare for any further threats or attacks, by ensuring that important areas are not visible from the sky. It is a precaution many cities take during times of conflict to reduce the chances of more damage or casualties.

Pakistan Military Authorised To Strike India ‘At Time, Place And Manner Of Own Choosing’
On Wednesday, the National Security Committee (NSC) authorised the Pakistan military to take appropriate action in response to Indian airstrikes that targeted multiple civilian areas.
The strikes, launched overnight on May 6-7, hit locations in Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muzaffarabad. The attack led to civilian deaths, including women and children and caused damage to civilian infrastructure such as mosques and the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project.
The NSC’s statement condemned the Indian attack, calling it “unprovoked, cowardly and unlawful.”It highlighted that India’s strikes were based on the false claim of targeting terrorist camps and resulted in civilian casualties. The NSC also emphasised that these attacks endangered commercial airlines, as 57 international flights were passing through Pakistani airspace at the time. Pakistan’s military has reserved the right to respond to this aggression, under Article 51 of the UN Charter, which allows for self-defence.
DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed 26 civilian deaths and 46 injuries caused by 24 airstrikes on six different locations. In Bahawalpur, 13 people, including two three-year-old girls, were martyred. Three fatalities occurred near Muzaffarabad after an attack on Bilal Mosque, while the Abbas Mosque in Kotli saw two teenagers killed. Additionally, the Indian army firing along the Line of Control resulted in five civilian deaths, including a five-year-old child.
The attack on Pakistan’s water infrastructure, including the Nauseri Dam, was condemned as a dangerous escalation. Lt Gen Chaudhry remarked that targeting water resources raises serious concerns about India’s compliance with international humanitarian law. He stressed that Pakistan’s aircraft did not cross into Indian airspace, and no Indian aircraft were allowed into Pakistani territory. The armed forces remain committed to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and will respond to future provocations at their discretion.
