The Fashion Evolution of Sydney Sweeney
The Fashion Evolution of Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney’s meteoric rise from indie darling to global fashion muse is probably one of the best things to happen to Hollywood. With a chameleonic style that oscillates between Old Hollywood glamour and contemporary edge, Sweeney has not only graced our screens but also redefined red carpet elegance while becoming one of social media’s most adored fashion icons in the process.

The Euphoria Effect

Emerging from roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, Sydney Sweeney’s on-screen presence quickly translated into fashion influence.

Her portrayal of Cassie Howard introduced viewers to a character whose style was as emotionally nuanced as her storyline. Collaborating with costume designer Heidi Bivens, Sydney Sweeney donned a wardrobe filled with soft pastels, delicate fabrics, and vintage silhouettes that mirrored Howard’s inner world. In interviews, Sweeney revealed she kept many of Cassie’s jeans, noting they were perfectly tailored to her frame. This blend of character and personal style laid the foundation for Sweeney’s fashion journey.

Red Carpet Renaissance

The red carpet journey of Sydney Sweeney is a masterclass in versatility. At the 2022 Met Gala, she donned a white Tory Burch gown with a detachable skirt that had a mini dress underneath. It was a playful nod to the event’s “Gilded Glamour” theme. Fast forward to 2024, and she embraced a gothic aesthetic with a light blue Miu Miu gown, black gloves and a jet-black bob, channeling a modern-day Morticia Addams.

Her 2025 Met Gala appearance further showcased her fashion evolution. Sweeney graced the red carpet in a custom black tasselled Miu Miu gown, complemented by a dramatic slicked-back bun and double-winged eyeliner, exuding 1920s sophistication.

Oh, and how can we forget the pink crystal-embroidered gown at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party? Seems like Miu Miu and Sydney is a good combination; both for the actress and the brand.

Sweeney’s red carpet appearances often pay homage to Old Hollywood glamour, reflecting her appreciation for classic aesthetics with a modern twist.

The Billion-Dollar Toy: How the Labubu Doll Became a Luxury Phenomenon in China

The Billion-Dollar Toy: How the Labubu Doll Became a Luxury Phenomenon in China
The Billion-Dollar Toy: How the Labubu Doll Became a Luxury Phenomenon in China

At first glance, the Labubu doll looks like something that escaped from a Halloween decoration aisle; a fluffy creature with jagged teeth, bugged-out eyes and a devilish grin. But in China, this creepy-cute character has become the face of a luxury movement that’s turning the toy industry on its head. Labubu doll isn’t just a toy, it’s a billion-yuan phenomenon, a cultural statement and perhaps the clearest sign yet that the definition of luxury is evolving faster than we can keep up.

How ironic, though! For years, Chinese products stamped with a “Made in China” label were associated with cheap and poor quality. And today, a toy from China is a global sensation that is even defying the tariffs. If this doesn’t show you how fast global trends and perspectives can make a shift, then I don’t know what will.

The Genesis of Labubu Doll

Labubu was conceived by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, who was inspired by Nordic folklore and mythology. Initially introduced in 2015, Labubu gained significant traction in 2019 after a collaboration with Chinese toy company Pop Mart. Pop Mart’s innovative “blind box” sales strategy (consumers purchase sealed boxes without knowing which character variant they contain) added an element of surprise and collectability that fueled consumer interest. The blind-box economy thrives on FOMO, and on addiction.

Through a combination of surprise packaging and designer collaborations, Pop Mart does not merely sell toys; it offers anticipation, exclusivity, and social capital. In 2024 alone, Pop Mart’s revenue surged 107% to 13.04 billion yuan (around $1.8 billion). As of December 2024, the company’s mainland and non-mainland store revenue grew by 375% to 5 billion yuan (about $700 million), according to the company’s 2024 annual report.

China’s designer toy industry is projected to reach more than 110 billion yuan (US$15 billion) in retail sales in 2026 as reported by Time’s Magazine. This is more than a 1500% increase from 2015, when retail sales were just US$890 million. This isn’t child’s play; this is luxury business.

But here’s the twist: Labubu’s appeal isn’t rooted in scarcity or traditional craftsmanship. It’s a mass-produced item made with plastic and polyester. Yet, Labubu sells out faster than a Chanel drop, with fans lining up in the rain and spending small fortunes on resale. Why?

Celebrity Endorsements and Emotional Impact

Labubu is a paradox—grotesque yet adorable. That “ugly-cute” aesthetic is exactly what makes it desirable. The toy offers something honest, offbeat and rebellious. Sounds familiar? Yes, this is the perfect description of Gen-z too and hence this generation seems to be even more infatuated with this toy. Indeed, making toys relatable was a genius tactic from the company’s end.

That emotional pull is amplified by Labubu’s growing celebrity fan base. The Labubu craze received a significant boost when Lisa of K-pop group Blackpink was spotted with a Labubu keychain in 2024 and referred to the toy as her “baby.” This “organic” endorsement resonated deeply with fans, leading to a surge in popularity across Asia. Other celebrities, including Rihanna and Dua Lipa, have also been seen with Labubu dolls. So, of course, the demands will spike.

A Reflection on Modern Consumerism

Labubu’s rise to luxury status challenges traditional notions of what constitutes a luxury item. Unlike luxury brands that rely on exclusivity and high price points, Labubu’s allure lies in its accessibility and relatability with the community it fosters. This shift signifies a broader change in consumer values, where personal connection and cultural relevance take precedence over mere status symbols.

But here is a downside that no one is talking about: When luxury is defined by emotional resonance and peer influence, how do we separate authentic joy from manufactured desire?

The phenomenon also raises questions about consumer behaviour and the sustainability of such trends. The blind box model can lead to excessive consumption and financial strain for collectors seeking rare variants. Moreover, the reliance on celebrity endorsements and social media virality suggests that Labubu’s popularity may be susceptible to the fickle nature of online trends. How long can a brand stay hot on the fumes of virality and influencer moments? The line between collectable and clutter is thin — and fickle.

Labubu Craze: A Reflection

Labubu’s transformation from a quirky designer toy to a luxury cultural icon underscores the evolving landscape of consumerism in China and beyond. It reflects a generation’s desire for products that offer emotional fulfilment, community and a sense of identity, and literally no other purpose.

Authorities have arrested five people for allegedly leading a hate campaign on social media targeting Pakistan’s state institutions.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) booked Adil Raja, Moeed Pirzada, Muhammad Umar, Nazir Butt, and Ahmad Noorani. Officials charged them with spreading false and misleading content and a hate Campaign on social media.

The FIR says these individuals posted provocative and fake content during a period of high tension between Pakistan and India. The NCCIA stated that they continued sharing harmful material online, aiming to disturb public peace.

According to the agency, their posts aimed to “instigate hatred and cause fear and panic among the public.” Officials believe they tried to create confusion, unrest, and mistrust among citizens. The NCCIA confirmed that legal action has already started.

In a similar case in 2023, authorities booked overseas Pakistanis Shaheen Sehbai, Adil Raja, and others in Islamabad. Police accused them of urging people to rebel against the state and attack defence institutions.

Muhammad Aslam, a resident of G-11, filed the complaint at Ramana police station. The FIR listed Shaheen Sehbai, Haider Raza Mehdi, Wajahat Saeed Khan, and Adil Farooq Raja. Police charged them with terrorism and sedition.

The FIR also mentioned that Sehbai, Mehdi, and others living abroad “incited people against defence institutions and attempted to establish anarchy in Pakistan.”

PSL 10 Update: Returning Foreign Players and Absentees

PSL 10 Update: Returning Foreign Players and Absentees
PSL 10 Update: Returning Foreign Players and Absentees

With only days remaining before PSL 10 gets back underway on May 17, franchises are frantically making changes to a foreign player withdrawal wave. The most significant blow fell on Lahore Qalandars, who were deprived of star all-rounder Sikandar Raza owing to international obligations with Zimbabwe.

Raza’s absence will hit hard. He was a key pillar for the Qalandars this season, scoring 228 runs at a strike rate of 162.85 and taking 8 wickets in 9 matches. His departure, driven by Zimbabwe’s upcoming Test series starting May 22, leaves a massive hole in both the batting and bowling departments.

More Stars Exit the League

The problem is not specific to Lahore Qalandars. Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, and Kyle Jamieson have also withdrawn, mentioning scheduling issues. Allen was important for Quetta Gladiators, and Seifert had only started performing with the Karachi Kings. Although Jamieson’s contribution was minimal this season, his withdrawal is another concern in the growing list.

Uncertainty also surrounds the return of other foreign names. Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, and Sam Billings are question marks, leaving pressure on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to come up with quick fixes. The board is in discussions with international boards and agents, but national obligations and player choice have made solutions difficult to find.

Silver Lining for Karachi Kings

As opposed to the misfortune of other squads, Karachi Kings have had good news. David Warner, Mohammad Nabi, and James Vince have all confirmed that they will be available, bringing stability as Karachi looks at finishing top two.

Franchises Brace for a Tight Finish

With the league’s adjusted schedule now condensed into a nine-day dash (May 17–25), teams will be playing do-or-die matches in Rawalpindi and Lahore. The foreign player crisis should prompt teams to look into local talent bases or send scouts for short-term international cover. In this scenario, adaptability will be the game of choice.

For teams such as Lahore Qalandars, who relied heavily on veteran overseas players, it’s back to the drawing board. As the PSL enters its most critical phase, reshuffles in the squad may prove to be the determining factor between championship glory and an early departure.

Bangladesh’s Pakistan Tour Hangs in the Balance Amid Government Clearance

Pakistan-Bangladesh Series Likely to go Ahead as Planne

As cricket fans gear up for another exciting white-ball showdown, there’s a cloud of uncertainty looming over the Bangladesh cricket team’s scheduled tour of Pakistan.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made it clear — the final green signal for this tour isn’t in their hands just yet. It all hinges on one crucial thing: government clearance.

First, Off to the UAE

Before we get into the Pakistan leg, here’s what’s confirmed: The Bangladesh team has flown out to the UAE, where they’re set to face off in two T20Is in Sharjah on May 17 and 19.

These matches serve as a warm-up and perhaps a buffer, giving the board a bit more time to sort things out regarding the bigger tour that follows.

Bangladesh-Pakistan Series in Limbo

The much-talked-about five-match T20I series between Pakistan and Bangladesh was originally set to begin on May 25 and run through June 3.

However, the BCB has yet to officially confirm their participation. Why? Because they’re waiting for clearance from the government of Bangladesh before taking any further steps, including talking to the players.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed offered some insights:

“We’ve already written to the National Sports Council (NSC) to take it to the Ministry. I’ve even spoken directly to the sports advisor multiple times in recent days.”

He further emphasized that security concerns among some players have also been noted, but no discussions will happen with the squad until a formal go-ahead comes from the top.

Let’s be honest — touring Pakistan still brings up security conversations, even though several teams have recently visited without incident.

Faruque admitted the situation is “very sensitive” and said: “We can’t take this decision alone. Once we get the government’s decision, we’ll speak to the players and all stakeholders involved. There are also logistical details like venues to finalize.”

His remarks reflect the board’s cautious approach, especially when player safety is on the line.

PSL Clashes and Schedule Tweaks

To add another twist, there’s a scheduling clash as well. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 is now set to conclude on May 25, the same day the Bangladesh series was originally supposed to begin.

In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has stepped in with a revised itinerary, sent to the BCB on May 13.

Here’s what’s proposed:

  • Faisalabad will host the first three T20Is on May 27, 29, and June 1
  • The final two matches will shift to Lahore, scheduled for June 3 and 5

ICC Reveals Record Prize Pool For WTC Final

wtc-final-2025-to-offer-record-prize-pool

The historic Lord’s Cricket Ground will witness a clash that promises not just prestige, but record-breaking riches. The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 Final will feature two modern-day powerhouses — South Africa and Australia, fighting not only for glory but a record-breaking prize pool.

A $5.76 Million Showdown

In a major announcement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed a jaw-dropping USD $5.76 million prize pool for this year’s WTC Final — more than double what was on offer in the previous two editions.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • 🏆 Winners will walk away with USD $3.6 million
  • 🥈 Runners-up will take home USD $2.16 million

To put things in perspective, Australia and New Zealand played for a prize pool of just $1.6 million back in WTC Final 2021. The same amount was awarded again in 2023. Clearly, the stakes — and the rewards — have gone through the roof.

South Africa’s Date with Destiny

South Africa were the first to book their ticket to Lord’s, and boy, they’ve earned it.

Their path to the final has been nothing short of clinical:

  • Series wins against Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka
  • A gritty drawn home series against India

Led by the calm and composed Temba Bavuma, backed by pace machine Kagiso Rabada, and the elegant Aiden Markram, this Proteas squad has blended discipline with flair. And now, they stand just one win away from something historic — their first-ever ICC trophy.

That’s right. In all their cricketing history, South Africa has never lifted an ICC title. If that doesn’t fuel them, nothing will.

Australia: Eyeing History of Their Own

On the flip side, Australia are no strangers to finals — or titles.

They booked their spot with a 3-1 series win over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and followed that up with:

  • A 3-0 clean sweep of Pakistan at home
  • Away series wins in New Zealand and Sri Lanka

Already the most decorated cricket nation, Australia now have a shot at becoming the first team ever to win the World Test Championship twice.

With the likes of Steve Smith and Travis Head in form, and their deadly bowling unit always ready to pounce, the Aussies will be hungry for another piece of silverware.

Star Power on Display

To mark the 30-day countdown, the ICC released a promo video that got fans buzzing. Featuring stars from both squads — Smith, Head, Bavuma, Rabada, Markram — the video also celebrated legends like Pollock, Steyn, Hayden, Mel Jones, Nasser Hussain, Shoaib Akhtar, and Ravi Shastri.

The message? This isn’t just a match — it’s a celebration of Test cricket at its finest.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah summed it up perfectly: “We have witnessed a very interesting third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, where the finalists were decided only towards the end of the competition. This is a true celebration of cricket.”

With both teams deserving their place and carrying powerful narratives, this final isn’t just about winning — it’s about legacy.

At Last, Hollywood Raises its Voice for Gaza at Cannes Film Festival

At Last, Hollywood Raises its Voice for Gaza at Cannes

A stern open letter signed by more than 350 industry personalities has brought Gaza into the limelight at the Cannes Film Festival. Hollywood celebrities such as Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon have joined filmmakers and actors across the globe to denounce the “genocide” in Gaza.

A Letter with a Purpose

The letter, published in Libération and Variety, calls on the international community to cease turning a blind eye to the violence. It cites photojournalist Fatima Hassouna, who died in an Israeli airstrike that took 10 relatives with her. She is also the subject of a documentary that will debut at Cannes.

The movie, Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, is by Iranian director Sepideh Farsi. She stated that the festival cannot claim to be politically neutral. “Saying ‘the festival isn’t political’ doesn’t make sense,” she explained to AFP.

Big Names Join the Call

Other panel members who have signed include Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodóvar, Spain; Oscar-winning director Jonathan Glazer; actors Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo. Initial reports said Cannes jury president Juliette Binoche had also signed up, but she has since clarified she hadn’t.

Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon are among those taking a stand.

Palestinian filmmakers, Arab and Tarzan Nasser, will also show a 2007 Gaza-set film, offering another perspective to the Palestinian voice.

Cannes Spins Elsewhere

As the Gaza war hangs over Cannes, the festival has no formal programming for it. Instead, it has a “Ukraine Day” with three Ukraine-focused films on Russia’s war. Two of these involve Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The festival stated that this is part of its role in standing with artists during times of war. Critics argue, however, that it fails to give comparable attention to Palestine.

Opening Night and Controversy

The festival opened up on Tuesday, with Leave One Day from newcomer Amélie Bonnin. Political firebrand Robert De Niro will be given an honorary Palme d’Or.

A Red Carpet With Resistance

The Cannes Film Festival may glamorise cinema, but this year’s red carpet carries tension. Farsi’s film and the open letter show that filmmakers aren’t staying silent. Whether Cannes takes a stance or not, Gaza has already made its presence felt.

Islamabad United Boosts Squad with Star Trio for PSL 10 Resumption

islamabad-united-boosts-squad-with-trio-for-psl-10

Just when Islamabad United fans thought things couldn’t get more exciting, the defending champions have pulled off a triple treat. With the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 resuming on May 17, the franchise is bringing back some familiar faces to beef up their squad for the crucial final stretch.

Rassie van der Dussen, Alex Hales, and Ben Dwarshuis are all set to rejoin Islamabad United as they aim to retain their title and finish strong. Let’s break down what this means for the team and the tournament.

Rassie Returns with Purpose

South African top-order batter Rassie van der Dussen is making his comeback after initially missing out on PSL 10 due to personal reasons. But now, he’s back — and Islamabad United couldn’t be happier.

“A world-class player with a stellar record across formats… his professionalism, consistency and global stature make him one of the most respected batters in the modern game,” the franchise said in a statement.

With his calm demeanor and ability to anchor innings under pressure, Rassie adds much-needed stability to a batting lineup that’s already packed with firepower.

Hales is Home Again

England’s Alex Hales is another returning name that’s got fans buzzing. The explosive opener has long been associated with Islamabad United and shares a special bond with both the franchise and its supporters.

“Islamabad United has always been very close to my heart,” Hales said. “They were the first PSL team I played for in Pakistan, and the support I’ve received has been incredible.”

Originally unpicked in the PSL 10 draft, Hales was signed in April for the latter stages. With the league’s dates shifting due to political tensions, he had to adjust his schedule, but he’s made it happen.

Dwarshuis Deepens the Attack

From the Gold category draft pick to being a handy left-arm pacer, Ben Dwarshuis is back in red as well. The Australian has already picked up four wickets in five matches this season, showing signs of his potential with the ball.

Read More: Mitchell Owen Chooses IPL Over PSL as Peshawar Zalmi Face Setback

Islamabad United welcomed him with open arms, calling him a “familiar face in red” whose return adds “depth and balance” to the squad.

In a tournament where death overs can decide titles, Dwarshuis’ calm under pressure and ability to swing the ball both ways could prove vital.

A Timely Boost Before the Final Push

With the PSL 10 resuming on May 17 — starting with a clash between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi in Rawalpindi — the return of these three players couldn’t have come at a better time for Islamabad United.

Cross-border tensions might’ve caused a temporary pause, but now that the league is back on track, the defending champions look more settled and dangerous than ever.

Add in the experience, firepower, and chemistry these three bring, and Islamabad United just might be ready to script another fairytale finish.

Petrol, Diesel Costs Set To Go Down in Pakistan

Petrol, Diesel Costs Set To Go Down in Pakistan

The federal government plans to decrease petrol prices for the next 15 days because of changes in global oil prices.

Petrol prices might drop by Rs 2 to Rs 3.5 per litre. If that happens, petrol could cost around Rs 249.30 per litre. Diesel prices may fall by Rs 7 per litre, bringing the new diesel rate to nearly Rs 250 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) hasn’t made any official announcements yet. However, the Ministry of Finance will decide after discussing it with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. OGRA will send a summary of the price change to the Prime Minister for approval. Once he approves it, the Ministry of Finance will issue a formal notification.

Over the last 15 days, international petrol and diesel prices dropped by $1.5 to $3 per barrel. This decline in global prices is the reason behind the expected reduction in Pakistan.

Read more: Petrol Prices are Expected to Drop by Rs12 from April 16

On April 30, the government had already cut fuel prices by Rs 2 per litre. At that time, petrol cost Rs 252.63 per litre and diesel was Rs 256.64 per litre.

New updates now suggest that petrol may go down by Rs 3.5 per litre and diesel by Rs 7 per litre. This expected cut aims to lower the financial burden on people across the country.

Earlier, the government had announced a petrol price cut of Rs 2 per litre, reducing it to Rs 252.63. High-speed diesel also got a Rs 2 reduction, bringing the price to Rs 256.64 per litre.

These changes aim to pass on the benefit of cheaper global oil rates to the public and make fuel more affordable.

Karachi Bakery Vandalised in India, but did the Brand have any Links to Pakistan?

Karachi Bakery Vandalised in India, but did the Brand have any Links to Pakistan?
Karachi Bakery Vandalised in India, but did the Brand have any Links to Pakistan?

Following the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, members of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vandalised the Karachi Bakery branch in Shamshabad, Hyderabad, on May 10, 2025. It is an example of escalating nationalist sentiments and tensions between India and Pakistan, part of a larger pattern of political and cultural sensitivity in the region.

Background of Karachi Bakery

Karachi Bakery, which was founded by the Lala family in 1953, is a well-known Indian brand for many items. Although named after the city of Karachi in Pakistan, the bakery has no affiliation with Pakistan whatsoever and is purely an Indian-owned enterprise. The name was adopted to pay tribute to the Sindhi heritage of the family prior to the India-Pakistan partition in 1947. Although the bakery is cherished for its baked items, the name has at times incited controversy during times of political tension.

The Vandalism Incident

The protest took place at 3 p.m. on May 10 when a contingent of BJP workers assembled outside the bakery, shouting anti-Pakistan slogans. The protesters, draped in saffron shawls, vandalised the signboard of the bakery, employing sticks to profane the signage and tread on Pakistani flags. The police soon responded, arresting the protesters, but they were released after the owner of the bakery refused to lodge a complaint. No staff were injured, and the destruction was limited to the signboard.

A post shared by Kolachi Times (@kolachitime)

This act of vandalism indicates the nationalist enthusiasm in India, particularly among BJP-aligned elements. It illustrates how even companies with no political motive can fall victim because they are viewed as being sympathetic to Pakistan. Unfortunately, it shows that in today’s day, names, symbols, or historical links to Pakistan can fuel public hate.

Underlying Causes

The attack is attributed to India-Pakistan tensions, fueled by the attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir. On April 22, 2025, 26 Kashmiri civilians were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, for which India later blamed Pakistan. This triggered missile battles between the two nations, further increasing tensions. During these moments, companies with any linkage to Pakistan, even if merely a name, become subjects of political demonstrations in India.

Although the direct damage was limited to a signboard, the impact on the community runs deeper. Karachi Bakery has been part of Hyderabad for decades. It is a family business and a symbol of cultural exchange between India and Pakistan. The attack sends a message that businesses, even those with no political ties, can be affected by larger geopolitical tensions.

The incident has sparked debates about nationalism and cultural identity. Some nationalists argue that businesses with ties to Pakistan should be shut down. Others see the attack as an overreaction that harms India’s image of tolerance. Pakistan’s example in the same case should be noted as Bombay Bakery in Hyderabad, Pakistan, is a Bakery named after an Indian city, but is still safe and sound.

Now the question is: Is India becoming too intolerant, was it always like that?

Karachi Set to Face Intense Heatwave for the Next Five Days

Karachi Set To Face Intense Heatwave For The Next Five Days
Karachi Set to Face Intense Heatwave for the Next Five Days

Karachi will be affected by a heatwave in the next five days from Thursday, as reported by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Meteorologists have signalled that humidity will be 70% to 80%. This is very high moisture in the atmosphere, and this will also make the weather hotter than the true temperature. Due to this, the temperature will be 4 to 6 degrees higher than the true reading.

PMD also adds that day temperatures will remain 35°C. But with humidity, the ‘feels-like’ temperature will be as high as 40°C in Karachi. For youngsters, the elderly, and workers who operate outside, this heat presents dangers.

Authorities advise against taking a risk given the expected heat and humidity. People should hydrate much, remain inside when it’s hottest, and avoid the outdoors if at all, they advise. This could help to stop heat sickness.

The report advises staying cool by positioning oneself in front of a fan or an air conditioner as well. Dressing in loose, light clothing and relaxing by sprinkling water, spritsing with a wet sponge, or taking a cold shower is wonderful.

If you are doing outdoor work or a hard job, drink water occasionally, even if you are not thirsty, to help keep yourself hydrated.

Ben & Jerry’s Co-Founder Detained at U.S. Senate Protest Over Gaza Conflict

Ben & Jerry’s Cofounder Taken Into Custody While Protesting Gaza War at US Senate

Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, joined six others who were arrested after disrupting a U.S. Senate hearing to protest America’s support for Israel’s war in Gaza. The protest occurred during testimony by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was addressing changes to federal health agencies.

As police escorted Cohen out of the Capitol, he said, “Congress kills poor children in Gaza by buying bombs and pays for it by kicking kids off of Medicaid in the US.” U.S. Capitol Police said the group faced charges for “crowding, obstructing or incommoding.” Some also faced charges for assaulting an officer or resisting arrest.

Cohen and his co-founder Jerry Greenfield have a long history of activism. Both have strongly criticised Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Earlier this month, Cohen spoke with Tucker Carlson in an interview where he shared more of his views. Cohen, who is Jewish, called the U.S.-Israel relationship “strange” and accused the U.S. of supplying weapons for “its genocide.”

He added, “Today being American means we are the world’s largest arms merchant, we have the world’s largest military, and we fund the killing of people in Gaza. We arrest anyone who speaks out against the killing. What about our nation?”

In 2021, Ben & Jerry announced it would stop allowing its Israeli licensee to sell ice cream in Gaza and the West Bank, saying those sales clashed with company values. A U.S. judge later denied their request to block the sales, saying the company failed to show it would face serious harm. Ben & Jerry’s later settled the matter with Unilever, its parent company, though details weren’t made public.

In March, the company sued Unilever, claiming it fired CEO David Stever because he supported the brand’s social mission.

Since Israel launched its war in Gaza after Hamas attacked on October 7, 2023, more than 51,000 people have died.

Ceasefire Support from Azerbaijan shows it was an Ally all Along

Ceasefire Support from Azerbaijan shows it was an Ally all Along
Ceasefire Support from Azerbaijan shows it was an Ally all Along

In a major diplomatic move, Azerbaijan has officially embraced the ceasefire deal announced between India and Pakistan. The announcement was made by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 10, 2025, and indicates the nation’s support for regional and global peace initiatives. “We hope this ceasefire will help de-escalate tensions in the region,” the statement said. “We also urge the parties to enter productive dialogue aimed at resolving current issues and establishing mutual trust.”

Regional Stability at Stake

India and Pakistan, the two nuclear-armed neighbours, have been embroiled in a long history of violence, notably over the disputed Kashmir region. Clashes along the Line of Control (LoC) have erupted time and again down the years. However, recent attempts on both sides to reduce tensions have been warily greeted by the global community.

Azerbaijan’s backing highlights the increasing role of third-party players in fostering peace in conflict-prone areas. With its status as a Non-Aligned Movement and increasingly prominent diplomatic player, Baku’s support marks its alignment with ideals of peaceful negotiation and regional solidarity.

Azerbaijan as a Peace Advocate

This is not the first instance that Azerbaijan intends to show concern regarding tensions in South Asia. Azerbaijan has had neutral and constructive relations with India and Pakistan over the years. By supporting the ceasefire, Azerbaijan intends to not only support the international calls for peace but also reinforce its image as an active and responsible member of the international community.

With continued conflicts across the globe, such diplomatic support is important in generating momentum towards long-term solutions. Baku’s statement urges both sides to go beyond short-term ceasefires and invest in substantive, organised dialogue.

The Bigger Picture

This ceasefire falls at a moment when South Asia is confronted by several challenges, ranging from economic instability to spreading extremism. Cooperation and confidence-building are necessary if peace is to be sustainable in the region. Azerbaijan’s message is straightforward yet unambiguous: peace has to be more than the absence of war—it must be constructed upon trust, conversation, and common respect.

As the ceasefire holds, all eyes continue to be on what happens next. Will India and Pakistan seize this moment to address underlying issues? Baku’s message is clear: the world is watching, and the time for peace is now.

All the Best Red Carpet Looks from Cannes Film Festival 2025

All the Best Red Carpet Looks from Cannes Film Festival 2025
All the Best Red Carpet Looks from Cannes Film Festival 2025

Lights, Camera, Action! All eyes on the Cannes Film Festival 2025!

The famous film festival and its iconic red carpet have officially kicked off in France, and for the next 2 weeks, the 78th annual film festival will be witnessing a star-studded line-up of A-listers.

Background on Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival is the most prestigious in the world. Held in Cannes, France, it previews new films of all genres. This includes documentaries and films from all around the world. In fact, this prestigious festival is home to the industry’s most highly anticipated pictures, and also where unexpected gems are discovered.

The 78th annual Cannes Film Festival will take place from 13 to 24 May 2025.

Yesterday, the Grand Théâtre Lumière hosted the official opening ceremony. The eagerly-awaited evening was marked by the presence of Robert De Niro, who received the honorary Palme d’Or from Leonardo DiCaprio. Stars such as Julia Garner, Eva Longoria, Bella Hadid, and more all hit the red carpet to kick off the affair—donning their most glamorous fashions. After all, Cannes is one of the most elegant and glitzy film festivals in the world.

But wait, there is a twist this time? “No skin show” was set as the dress code. Oh, and disruptive trains were not allowed on the red carpet either.

“For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival,” reads the dress code on the Cannes website. “Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre, are not permitted. The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”

It seemed like this twist would leave the celebrities appalled, especially for a fashion forward red carpet. Fortunately though that wasn’t the case — many celebrities still ATE without compromising the guidelines.

Are the Menendez Brothers Finally Being Released?

Are the Menendez Brothers Finally Being Released?
Are the Menendez Brothers Finally Being Released?

Erik and Lyle Menendez, convicted in 1996 for the 1989 murders of their parents, have finally been resentenced, making them eligible for parole after serving over 35 years in prison. A California judge reduced the life sentences of the Menendez brothers from “without the possibility of parole” to “50 years to life,” aligning with California’s youthful offender law, which applies to crimes committed before the age of 26.

Background of the Case

In August 1989, the Menendez brothers shot and killed their parents, Jose, the owner of RCA Records and the CEO of Live Entertainment, and Kitty Menendez, a socialite, in their Beverly Hills home. The brothers claimed the murders were committed in self-defence due to years of alleged sexual and physical abuse by their father. However, prosecutors argued that the motive was financial gain, as the brothers were set to inherit their father’s wealth. While there has been significant evidence supporting the brothers, they ended up losing the case.

In May 2025, Judge Michael Jesic resentenced the Menendez brothers, recognising their rehabilitation, educational achievements, and good behaviour in prison. However, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman opposed the resentencing, arguing the brothers have not fully taken responsibility for their actions.

Lyle and Eric Menendez During their Trial

After the resentencing, the Menendez brothers are set for a parole hearing on June 13, 2025. Governor Gavin Newsom will decide whether to grant clemency, which could lead to their release.

Public and Legal Reactions

The case has drawn widespread attention. Supporters highlight the brothers’ rehabilitation and remorse. Critics, however, believe their actions were premeditated, and they haven’t fully accepted responsibility. The parole hearing and the governor’s decision will shape the next steps in the Menendez brothers’ legal journey.

There’s no doubt that the Menendez brothers’ case has been one of history’s most nail-bitingly interesting ones. It sparked controversy over justice, accountability, and rehabilitation. Supporters now argue they’ve served their time and deserve freedom, pointing to their prison reform. Critics, however, emphasise the brutality of their crime. The upcoming parole hearing and Governor Newsom’s decision will determine their future, raising important questions about long-term incarceration and second chances for violent criminals.
