The Boys may have ended its long run, but the final episode is still causing major debate online, especially after Elon Musk appeared to mock the finale with a one word reaction.

The last episode of the hit superhero series aired earlier this week. It quickly got its fans buzzing all over the social media. Some viewers praised the ending for staying bold and chaotic until the very end. Others felt disappointed with the direction of the story.

Character that sparked comparisons

One moment from the finale grabbed attention. It was the arrival of a new character Gunter Van Ellis. The show described him as the “world’s richest man.” Fans took not time in noticing similarities between the character and Elon Musk. They pointed out his clothing style and references to having many children.

Soon after the episode aired, Musk reacted online, saying “pathetic” to a meme featuring Homelander. He did not directly mention the show or the parody character, still, many viewers believed the comment targeted the finale.

Instead of getting upset, The Boys creator Eric Kripke reacted with humour. He shared Musk’s comment on Instagram, joking, “OMG I’ll never have a better review ever.”

 Changing tone of The Boys

The controversy sparked some new discussion about how the show changed over time. Early seasons earned praise for a darker and more shocking superhero story than typical comic book shows.

As the series finally ended, its political humour became stronger and more direct than ever. Homelander, which was played by Antony Starr, turned from a dangerous superhero into a darker political figure and this sudden shift left viewers stunned.

Critics continued to praise the show across all five seasons. Audience scores, however, slowly dropped on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb. The final two episodes even received some of the lowest ratings of the entire series.

Even with this response, The Boys has once again proven that it knows how to keep people talking long after the credits roll.
