A custody battle has taken a gruesome turn after former Why Don’t We singer Jack Avery revealed he was the target of an alleged murder-for-hire plot involving his ex-girlfriend, social media influencer Gabbie Gonzalez.

The chilling case surfaced after Los Angeles prosecutors charged Gabriela Gonzalez, her father Francisco Gonzalez, and surf instructor Kai Cordrey with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and solicitation of murder. Investigators claim the alleged plot was linked to a bitter custody dispute over Avery and Gonzalez’s seven-year-old daughter, Lavender.

Jack Avery Addresses the Case

After years of public speculation and legal drama, Jack Avery broke his silence through an emotional Instagram statement. The singer revealed that the past few years had been deeply painful for both him and his family.

“A few days ago, three individuals were arrested in connection with an alleged plot to kill me. One of those individuals is the mother of my daughter,” Avery wrote.

The former Why Don’t We member explained that he stayed quiet so that he could protect his daughter and respect the legal process. However, he clarified that his focus now remains on creating a stable life for Lavender.

“I’m thankful to have sole custody of my daughter, Lavender, who is safe, healthy, and deeply loved,” he added.

Prosecutors Detail the Alleged Plot

According to investigators, the alleged conspiracy began between 2020 and 2021. Prosecutors say Gabriela Gonzalez repeatedly discussed wanting Avery dead and allegedly explored hiring a hitman through the dark web.

Authorities claim Francisco Gonzalez financed the operation. Court documents allege he sent Kai Cordrey $10,000 in April 2021 as an upfront payment. Later, another $4,000 was reportedly transferred after the supposed hitman demanded additional funds.

The investigation intensified after an undercover law enforcement officer posed as a hired killer. Prosecutors say Cordrey discussed payment details, proof of death, and plans to stage the killing as a car accident in Los Angeles. If they end up being convicted, all three defendants could face 25 years to life in prison.

FBI Investigation and Legal Fallout

The Jack Avery case reportedly remained under investigation for years before arrests were finally made. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman credited the FBI for launching the lengthy probe.

“This is a case where the defendants are accused of going to great lengths to find someone to commit murder,” Hochman stated.

Meanwhile, Gabriela Gonzalez has been released on a $2 million bond. A judge ordered her to wear a GPS monitor and temporarily restricted her from discussing the case on social media. Francisco Gonzalez was arrested in Seminole County, Florida, and is currently awaiting extradition to California.

Fans Rally Around Jack Avery

The shocking revelations have sparked cutting reactions online, especially among longtime Why Don’t We fans. Many praised Jack Avery for staying silent during years of accusations and legal battles.

Last year, Avery hinted at the terrifying ordeal during an appearance on The Zach Sang Show. He admitted the experience left him traumatised and fearful for his safety.

“I stayed in my house for like a month straight. I didn’t leave,” he recalled. Now, with the case finally in the public eye, Jack Avery says he wants only one thing moving forward: peace for himself and his daughter.
