Where else but the internet can a desi auntie, a Gen Z teenager, and your overly tech-savvy granddad all laugh at the same meme? Nowhere!

So, here’s to the memes of 2024: for the laughs, the debates, and the moments of “OMG that’s SO me.” As we scroll into 2025, let’s keep the energy alive. Because if memes have taught us anything, it’s that no matter how wild life gets, there’s always something hilarious to screenshot and share.

ASWJ Plans Protests at 60 Locations Across Karachi

Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat Protest in Karachi

Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat’s Karachi division has announced a plan for protests at 60 locations across the metropolis, including sensitive red zones, following growing tensions with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM).

The protests, to be held by Allama Muhammad Ahmed Ludhianvi and General Allama Aurangzaib Farooqi, will span all seven districts of Karachi. Key demonstration sites include major commercial areas such as Liaquatabad Super Market, Star Gate, Defense Morr, and Teen Talwar.

The announcement comes after the Sunni Ulema Council of Pakistan issued a 24-hour ultimatum to MWM to end their ongoing protests. The Council has threatened to expand demonstrations nationwide if their demands are not met.

During a press conference at Jamia Masjid Rahmani in Islamabad, council leaders expressed support for the Apex Committee’s decisions. They called for strict military operations in Kurram Agency’s Parachinar. They demanded immediate removal of weapons and indiscriminate arrests of criminals in the region.

The Council also alleged Iranian and Indian involvement in violence in Parachinar, claiming Iranian-made weapons were being used in attacks on Sunni civilians, their homes, and markets. The protests, if materialised, could significantly impact traffic flow and daily life across Pakistan’s largest city, with demonstration points planned at crucial intersections and commercial hubs.

Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has issued an ultimatum to clear ongoing protests before Maghrib prayer today, warning of legal action against those who refuse to disperse.

“The citizens of Karachi have endured enough over the past three days,” Odho stated during a high-level security meeting with Sindh officials. He confirmed protesters had agreed to end demonstrations that have paralysed Pakistan’s largest city.

The Majlis-e-Wahdatul-Muslimeen (MWM) protests have blocked major arteries including M.A. Jinnah Road and Numaish Chowrangi, causing severe traffic disruptions across more than dozen key locations.

Odho also reported improved security metrics, citing a 13 percent reduction in violent crime and a 30 percent decrease in mobile phone snatching during 2024. Ahead of New Year celebrations, he warned of zero tolerance for aerial firing, with violators facing attempted murder charges.

Cummins Defends Jaiswal’s Dismissal Controversy in Fourth Test

Cummins Defends Jaiswal's Dismissal Controversy in Fourth Test

Australian captain Pat Cummins has defended the contentious dismissal of Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal during the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where Australia secured a commanding 184-run victory over India.

Jaiswal, who top-scored with 84 runs in India’s second innings chase of 340, was dismissed in a pivotal moment during the 41st over. The left-hander attempted to hook a Cummins bouncer but was given out caught behind after a DRS review overturned the on-field decision.

“I think it was clear that he hit it. I heard a noise [and] saw deviation,” Cummins stated in the post-match press conference. “As soon as we referred it, you could see him drop his head and basically acknowledge that he hit it,” Pat Cummins stated.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma, while acknowledging the team’s tendency to “fall on the wrong side of such decisions,” concurred with the ruling. “It didn’t show in Snicko, but with the naked eye, there was a clear deflection,” Sharma remarked.

Controversy over Jaiswal dismissal

The dismissal proved to be a turning point in the match, as India collapsed from a promising position to be bundled out for 155. The wicket triggered a rapid decline in India’s batting line-up, leading to Australia’s eventual triumph in the Boxing Day Test.

Prior to Jaiswal’s dismissal, India had already lost key wickets, including Virat Kohli for just five runs. Rishabh Pant’s contribution of 30 runs provided brief resistance before the batting order crumbled under Australian pressure.

The controversial decision by third umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat has sparked debate among cricket enthusiasts, with opinions divided over the sufficiency of evidence for the dismissal.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman Sequel to Release in 2027

Source: Variety

The Dark Knight fans have to wait even longer for the gritty return of Robert Pattinson as the character. Matt Reeves’s long-awaited sequel, The Batman 2, has again been postponed to the fall of 2027 when it will finally hit the screens on October 1. This announcement marks another delay in the long series of delays that the film has endured since it was first announced in 2022.

The Reason Behind the Delay

DC Studios co-executive James Gunn disclosed that the delay results from a still-being-developed script. Reeves, famous for being extremely particular in his storytelling, is reluctant to compromise on the quality of the story. “The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script,” he explained. “Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can.” With the complexity of a project this big, pre-production, filming, and post-production all take practically two years after the script is locked in.

The approach might infuriate awaiting fans, but it makes good sense as a method in Reeves’ quest to make a sequel that justifies the high bar set by the original.

What’s Next for Gotham?

The first part left Gotham in shambles. Paul Dano’s Riddler was behind bars in Arkham and the city dealt with the aftermath of a catastrophic flood. Reeves has teased that The Batman 2 will explore the cracks in the city further, delving into political unrest, societal division, and the lines between heroism and villainy.

“There’s a lot more grey,” Reeves said in a recent interview. “People are at odds and not communicating, reflecting the turmoil we see in our world today.” This layered approach promises a film rich in thematic depth and moral complexity.

What About Pattinson?

Although The Batman 2 is still in the distant future, moviegoers will not have to wait until 2027 to see Robert Pattinson on screen. The actor currently stars in Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi thriller Mickey 17, set to hit theatres on March 7, 2026.

The Bigger Picture

Delays are a double-edged sword in the film industry. While they test the audience’s patience, they also signal a commitment to quality. If Reeves and his team succeed in crafting a sequel as compelling as the first, the wait may be well worth it. For now, fans can only hope that Gotham’s next chapter justifies the anticipation.

Second Jeju Air Flight Suffers Landing Gear Problem

Second Jeju Air Flight Suffers Landing Gear Problem

Authorities forced a Jeju Air flight from Seoul on Monday to return after encountering a landing gear problem. This happened a day after South Korea’s most deadly plane crash. The Boeing 737-800 involved in the latest incident was the same model as the Jeju Air plane that crashed on Sunday killing 179 people.

Jeju Air Flight 7C101, which departed Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport for Jeju island “at around 6:37 am, returned to Gimpo at 7:25 am” was detected shortly after takeoff due to a landing gear issue.

“Shortly after takeoff, a signal indicating a landing gear issue was detected on the aircraft’s monitoring system,” Song Kyung-hoon, head of the management support office at Jeju Air, told a news conference.

“At 6:57 am, the captain communicated with ground control and after taking additional measures, the landing gear returned to normal operation. However, the decision was made to return to the airport for a thorough inspection of the aircraft.”

Local media reported that 21 passengers chose not to board an alternate flight to Jeju, citing concerns over safety. Jeju Air’s 41-plane fleet includes 39 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Special Inspection

Seoul said on Monday it would conduct a special inspection of all 101 Boeing 737-800 planes in operation in the country.

“We are reviewing plans to conduct a special inspection on B737-800 aircraft,” said Joo Jong-wan, head of the aviation policy bureau at the South Korean transport ministry.

Joo added that the government plans to “implement rigorous aviation safety inspections in response to the (landing gear) incidents.” In Sunday’s crash at Muan, the Boeing 737 800 carrying 181 people from Thailand to South Korea made a mayday call and belly-landed before crashing into a barrier and bursting into flames. The explosion killed everyone on board except two flight attendants who were pulled from the wreckage.

Why Sangeeta Bijlani and Salman Khan’s Marriage Never Happened

The Salman Khan-Sangeeta Bijlani love story is nothing short of a testament of complexities of relationships in light.
.

Bollywood’s glamorous world has always been the treasure trove of iconic relationships and the bond between Salman Khan and Sangeeta Bijlani was no exception. Their love story took the headlines in the late 80s and early 90s, with fans awaiting a union that never came to pass. Recently, Sangeeta spoke about their past in Indian Idol 15, thus renewing curiosity as to why their wedding was called off.

A Love Story that Captivated Bollywood

Salman Khan, Bollywood’s heartthrob, and Sangeeta Bijlani, a model and actress, met on the sets of a TV commercial. The chemistry between them soon turned into a real-life romance that lasted almost a decade. During this time, the couple became one of the most talked-about pairs in Bollywood. They symbolised glamour, love, and promise.

The couple’s relationship came to a point where rumours emerged that wedding preparations were underway, and invitations are said to have been printed. Fans and media alike became convinced that the grand wedding was at hand but were left stunned when plans were cancelled abruptly.

Sangeeta’s Revelation on Indian Idol 15

Sangeeta Bijlani on Indian Idol 15 revealed the truth behind rumours about her wedding cards printed before she cancelled the ceremony, courtesy of contestant Manasi Ghosh. The actress went ahead and stated: “Jhoot toh nahi tha.” (It wasn’t a lie.)

Watch here:

The audience, including the judges Shreya Ghoshal and Vishal Dadlani, had no words. While Vishal was demanding additional information, Sangeeta diplomatically stopped himself there. Her statement left fans in awe.

Speculations Surrounding the Cancelled Wedding

While neither Salman nor Sangeeta has come out with the whole story behind their separation, there have been many speculations in the past. One of the most common is that their priorities and personal lives might have drifted them apart. Salman was then at the top of his career, and Sangeeta was finding her footing in the film industry.

Another rumour that seems to have caught wind of things is that of the infidelity case. People widely speculate that an affair might have had a large role to play in their parting ways. However, both Salman and Sangeeta have taken the mature route of not speaking down about each other and haven’t publicly confirmed or denied these rumours.

Life After Their Relationship

After her split with Salman, Sangeeta Bijlani got married to cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin in 1996. Their marital life lasted for more than a decade before it was dissolved through divorce in 2019. Sangeeta had always been graceful and resilient in the face of her personal life‘s ups and downs, emerging as a strong and independent woman.

Salman Khan, on the other hand, went on to create an unparalleled legacy in Bollywood. He remains one of the industrys most eligible bachelors. Over the years, he has been linked with several high-profile names. Howevernone of his relationships have culminated in marriage.

A Bond That Endures

One of the most amazing things about Salman and Sangeeta’s story is that they have maintained mutual respect and a cordial relationship. Sangeeta often attends Salman’s family events and celebrates milestones with the Khan clan. In an earlier interview, Sangeeta beautifully summed up her enduring bond with Salman, stating, “Connections don’t break. The love between your partners and even school friends never goes away. Life is full of experiences.” This highlights the maturity the two have shown despite their relationship not working out in marriage.

A Glimpse Into Their Legacy

The Salman Khan-Sangeeta Bijlani love story is nothing short of a testament to the complexities of relationships in light. The journey of love, challenges, separation, and so on fills many decades later with the same emotions in fans.

Sangeeta’s recent comments have reignited discussions around what could have been had this couple stayed together, yet also showed the grace with which two such people have navigated personal lives. While the two have moved on, that chapter of love remains, an integral and cherished tale in Bollywood’s history that tells the beauty and unpredictability of love.

Taliban Ban Windows Overlooking Areas Used by Women in Afghanistan

Taliban Ban Windows Overlooking Areas Used by Women in Afghanistan

In another move to tighten its control over women’s visibility and agency, Afghanistan’s Taliban government has ordered a ban on residential windows overlooking areas commonly used by women. According to the decree announced by government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on social media, new buildings will be constructed without such windows and existing ones will be obstructed to block the view.

The Taliban says this action is to avoid “obscene acts.” The edict mentions courtyards, kitchens, and wells among areas to be shielded from view. Enforcing these rules is supposed to be the responsibility of the local authorities, who will reportedly inspect construction sites and existing buildings.

A New Chapter in Gender Apartheid

Since taking power in 2021, the Taliban has systematically rolled back women’s rights under the pretext of strict Islamic law. No girl is allowed to enrol in secondary and higher studies and most types of jobs for them are barred. Access to parks and other public spaces is denied and this latest order has further carried it into homes. Afghan women have undoubtedly been further isolated.

The international community has frequently labelled the Taliban’s administration as “gender apartheid,” referring to the deliberate and institutionalised segregation of women. The United Nations and other human rights groups have deemed these policies flagrant violations of basic human rights.

Effect on Afghan Women and Society

This window ban marks the new frontier of shrinking physical and social space available to Afghan women. Even everyday activities such as working in kitchens or fetching water are now deemed inappropriate for public observation, thus reinforcing a culture of invisibility.

The restrictions also affect urban planning and housing design, probably raising construction costs and complicating living conditions for Afghan families. The decree’s ambiguous wording leaves room for subjective enforcement, which may lead to disputes and further hardship for residents.

Cultural and Global Implications

Even as the Taliban claim their actions are in line with Sharia, these policies are seen to misunderstand religious teachings with the aim of patriarchal dominance. The voices of Afghan women have already been muted in so many areas—their voices go unheard on media stations and they’re prohibited from public singing and poetry.

The Taliban’s continued tightening of gender restrictions makes it important to focus international attention and take action. For Afghan women, even the simple act of standing by a window has become a political statement—one that, for now, remains out of view.

Australia Goes up 2-1 as India Collapses in Final Session

Australia Go Up 2-1 As India Collapse in Final Session

Australia secured a commanding 184-run victory over India in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. India, chasing 340 on the final day, was bowled out for just 155 runs. Pat Cummins and Scott Boland starred for the hosts, claiming three wickets each to destroy the Indian batting lineup.

Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out for India, scoring a resilient 84 runs. His efforts briefly raised hopes of a draw, but his dismissal to a Pat Cummins bouncer proved important. The bouncer sparked controversy as Jaiswal fell just when India appeared to stabilise. Rishabh Pant also contributed with a calm 30, showcasing a controlled approach that contrasted his usual aggression. However, no other Indian batsman managed to reach double figures, which left the team struggling.

India began the final day on a positive note, adding 79 runs without losing a wicket in the morning session. Jaiswal and Pant displayed determination, weathering Australia’s early attack. By lunch, India seemed assured to push for a draw, needing 228 runs from 38 overs with seven wickets in hand. However, Australia regained control in the afternoon session with disciplined bowling from Cummins and Boland.

This match also saw a historic attendance record at the MCG, with over 87,000 fans on the opening day alone. Across the five days, the stadium witnessed the highest attendance figures, reflecting the excitement of this tightly contested series. The final Test begins in Sydney on Friday, with India needing a win to level the series at 2-2.

Amir Slams Pakistan Coaches, Management After Abbas’ Comeback

When Mohammad Abbas ran through South Africa’s batting lineup at SuperSport Park, cricket fans around the world couldn’t stop talking about his brilliance. With match figures of 7/133, including a jaw-dropping 6/54 in the second innings, Abbas reminded everyone of his class. But as the applause poured in, the spotlight also shifted to a lingering question: Why did it take three long years for him to return to the national team?

Amir’s Sharp Critique

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir didn’t hold back. He took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration with the coaching staff that sidelined Abbas.

“Bring those coaches forward who dropped Abbas because of his pace,” Amir wrote. “It took Abbas three years to make a comeback—a slap in their faces.”

The tweet resonated with many fans who’ve long questioned the team’s selection policies. Abbas’ exclusion, despite his consistent performances in domestic and county cricket, baffled critics and supporters alike.

A Performance for the Ages

In the first Test against South Africa, Abbas was the standout performer for Pakistan. He set the tone early, dismissing Aiden Markram with a peach of a delivery. His spell on the final day dismantled South Africa’s middle order, sending David Bedingham and debutant Corbin Bosch back to the pavilion in consecutive deliveries.

By the time he finished his spell, South Africa were teetering at 99/8. While a late partnership from Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen snatched victory for the hosts, Abbas’ efforts had given Pakistan a fighting chance.

Shehzad Joins the Praise

Opening batter Ahmed Shehzad also lauded Abbas on X, acknowledging his incredible fight. “Pakistan lost the 1st Test despite a great fight from Mohammad Abbas,” he shared.

It’s hard to argue with Shehzad. Abbas wasn’t just Pakistan’s best bowler—he was their biggest hope in a tense contest.

Numbers That Speak Volumes

At 34, Mohammad Abbas remains a force to be reckoned with in Test cricket. His record—97 wickets in just 26 matches at an average of 22.73—places him among the best in the game. And in first-class cricket? A staggering 748 wickets underline his dominance in the longer format.

But the question remains: Why was someone with such talent and consistency kept out of the team?

Abbas’ performance is a reminder of what Pakistan missed during his absence. For years, the team’s selectors have been criticized for prioritizing raw pace over skill and precision. Abbas’ success—built on accuracy, control, and the ability to move the ball—proves that there’s more to fast bowling than sheer speed.

Planet 9: Hypothetical or an Undiscovered World?

Planet 9: Hypothetical or an Undiscovered World?

The idea that a ninth planet exists in the far reaches of our solar system has fascinated astronomers for decades. While Pluto once held the title of the ninth planet, it was demoted to “dwarf planet” in 2006. Pluto’s demotion left a gap in our cosmic lineup. However, recent discoveries suggest that a mysterious Planet 9, otherwise known as Planet X, might be waiting to be found. Here is everything known about planet X and why this potential discovery could change our understanding of the solar system.

The Clues in the Outer Solar System

Astronomers began noticing something strange about the orbits of distant objects beyond Neptune, in a region called the Kuiper Belt. Some of these objects, like Sedna and 2012 VP113, follow highly unusual paths around the Sun. They orbit in a really elongated and tilted manner. Scientists assume they’re influenced by a massive, unseen gravitational force.

This odd behaviour led researchers to hypothesise the existence of a large planet that might be shaping these orbits. Scientists estimate that this hidden world could be several times the size of Earth but smaller than Neptune. Its incredible distance from the Sun, potentially hundreds of times farther than Earth, makes it extremely hard to detect with current technology.

A Race to Find Planet 9

Mike Brown, an astronomer at Caltech, is one of the leading figures in the search for Planet 9. Ironically, he is also known for helping demote Pluto from its planetary status. Along with his colleague Konstantin Batygin, Brown has used mathematical models and observations of distant objects to build a case for Planet 9’s existence.

Despite these efforts, no one has directly observed the planet yet. Its immense distance means it reflects very little sunlight, making it almost invisible to traditional telescopes. However, hope is on the horizon. The Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile is set to begin operations soon. They are expected to scan vast areas of the sky with unprecedented precision. If it is out there, this powerful telescope might finally spot it or provide indirect evidence of its presence.

Discovering this would be a groundbreaking moment in astronomy. Moreover, it could help explain the formation and evolution of our solar system. The discovery could shed light on how planets and smaller objects interact in the outer reaches of space. A new discovery like this would also inspire further exploration and deepen our curiosity about the universe.

Moreover, such a discovery would mark the beginning of a new chapter in planetary science. It would validate years of research and speculation, proving that our solar system still holds secrets waiting to be uncovered. Whether or not it’s ever found, the search reminds us that the universe is vast and full of surprises.

Mohammad Abbas Etches His Name In History Books

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas made a dream comeback to the Test arena on Sunday, delivering a spell for the ages at SuperSport Park. His stunning 6/54 in South Africa’s second innings wasn’t just a personal milestone—it etched his name in history books as the best-ever Test bowling performance by a Pakistani against the Proteas.

For Abbas, this was a statement. After nearly three years away from the national team, he reminded everyone why he’s considered one of the finest red-ball bowlers. His fiery spell dismantled South Africa’s middle order, surpassing Mushtaq Ahmed’s 6/78 in Durban (1998) as Pakistan’s best figures against South Africa.

Mohammad Abbas Joins the Elite Club

Here’s a look at the top Test bowling performances by Pakistani players against South Africa:

  1. Mohammad Abbas – Centurion, 2024: 6/54
  2. Mushtaq Ahmed – Durban, 1998: 6/78
  3. Waqar Younis – Gqeberha, 1998: 6/78
  4. Saeed Ajmal – Cape Town, 2013: 6/96
  5. Tanveer Ahmed – Abu Dhabi, 2010: 6/120

Breaking into a list that features legends like Waqar Younis and Mushtaq Ahmed is no small feat. Abbas’s return has certainly reignited Pakistan’s pace attack, and his performance will be remembered for years to come.

The Drama at Centurion

But cricket isn’t just about individual brilliance—it’s about how those moments shape the game. Chasing a modest 148, South Africa found themselves in deep trouble at 99/6. Abbas had done most of the damage, but cricket is a game of comebacks.

Enter Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen. The duo turned the tide with a gritty 51-run partnership. Rabada’s unbeaten 33 and Jansen’s valuable 20 sealed the deal for South Africa, giving them a nerve-wracking two-wicket win.

Earlier in the innings, Aiden Markram (37) and Temba Bavuma (40) steadily maintained the ship with a 43-run partnership after South Africa resumed at 27/3.

What’s Next?

With this win, South Africa climbed to the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a points percentage of 66.67%. The victory also secured their spot in the WTC final, showcasing why they remain a dominant force in red-ball cricket.

As for Pakistan, the heartbreak in Centurion will sting. They were on the brink of victory, thanks to Abbas’s brilliance, but couldn’t cross the finish line. The team will now turn their focus to the second and final Test in Cape Town, scheduled from January 3-7, 2025.

A Spell to Remember

While the result didn’t go Pakistan’s way, Mohammad Abbas’s performance deserves all the applause. His precision, control, and ability to swing the ball on any surface make him a nightmare for batters. For Abbas, this match was more than just numbers—it was a declaration that he’s back, and he’s here to stay.

The second Test promises more drama, but one thing is certain: Abbas will be the bowler to watch. Can he weave more magic in Cape Town? Only time will tell.

Muan International Airport Becomes Center of Grief and Chaos

Muan International Airport Becomes Center of Grief and Chaos

The crash of Jeju Air flight 7C 2216 on Sunday has left South Korea mourning its deadliest aviation disaster in nearly 30 years. The Boeing 737-800 plane, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, crashed at Muan International Airport. Only two crew members survived. Medics have identified 141 victims so far, while DNA tests are being conducted for the remaining 28 bodies. Families gathered at the airport to mourn as the names of the dead were announced. Rows of yellow tents were erected for relatives who stayed overnight.

Footage of the crash showed the plane sliding on its belly before hitting a wall and erupting in flames. Experts suspect that the undercarriage failed to deploy. Authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Boeing, are investigating. Two black boxes have been recovered, but one suffered damage and has been sent to Seoul for analysis. The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported that the pilot attempted to land in the opposite direction after being warned about a bird strike.

Relatives of victims of the deadly Jeju Air crash gather at a makeshift shelter at Muan International Airport on December 30.

The victims of Sunday’s crash include 84 males, 85 females and 10 people whose gender could not be determined, according to the South Jeolla Fire Service. Both of the survivors were crew members, one man and one woman, according to the rescue team. Two Thai nationals were among those on board, according to the South Korean transport ministry. All the other passengers were South Koreans.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok declared seven days of national mourning and promised, “We will transparently disclose the progress of the investigation into the accident, even before the final results are released, and keep the bereaved families informed.” Choi is leading a centralised disaster response team. More than 700 police, military and coast guard personnel are assisting in response efforts. A memorial altar has been set up in Muan for the victims.

A father of one of the Thai victims, Boonchuay Duangmanee, told the Associated Press he “never thought that this would be the last time we would see each other forever. His daughter, Jongluk, had been working in a factory in South Korea for several years, he told the AP. She had been in Thailand visiting family before departing on the flight from Bangkok to Muan. “I heard that the plane exploded in Korea this morning. But I did not expect at all that my daughter would be on this flight,” he said.

Another man, who lost his daughter, told Reuters he had not heard from her before the crash. “She was almost home so she didn’t feel the need to make a call,” 71-year-old Jeon Je-Young said of his daughter Jeon Mi-Sook. Another grieving parent, Jeon Je-Young, said, “She thought she was coming home. I figure in those last moments when she did try to reach out, the damage had already been done.”
