JS Bank Reports PKR 2.74 Billion Profit Before Tax for Q1 2025

JS Bank, one of the fastest growing banks in Pakistan, has announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025. The Bank reported an unconsolidated Profit Before Tax of PKR 2.74 billion profit, while Profit After Tax stood at PKR 1.29 billion. Earnings per share for the period were PKR 0.63, compared to PKR 0.84 in the same quarter last year.

Despite a significant reduction in the regulatory policy rate year-on-year, the Bank delivered steady growth in its core earnings. Net interest income increased by 5% year-on-year to PKR 7.43 billion, while total revenue for the quarter reached PKR 10.61 billion. Core fee income also showed strong momentum, rising 19% year-on-year to PKR 1.31 billion. The growth in core earnings was primarily driven by an improvement in average non-remunerative deposits and volumetric expansion across the balance sheet.

Operating expenses remained well-managed with a modest 13% year-on-year increase. The Bank’s coverage ratio improved to 72.4%, compared to 70.7% at year-end December 31, 2024.

On a year-on-year basis, the Bank’s average non-remunerative deposits grew by PKR 22 billion. As of March 31, 2025, period-end non-remunerative deposits stood at PKR 179.95 billion, representing 34% of the deposit mix. The Bank’s total assets increased to PKR 670 billion, up from PKR 636 billion at year-end 2024. The net investment portfolio grew by 19% to PKR 361 billion, while customer deposits rose to PKR 534 billion. Net advances stood at PKR 193 billion, reflecting a prudent lending approach.

On a consolidated basis, the Bank posted a Profit Before Tax of PKR 7.49 billion and a Profit After Tax of PKR 3.10 billion. Consolidated earnings per share were reported at PKR 1.18.

Basir Shamsie, President & CEO of JS Bank, said “Our performance this quarter reflects the strength of our strategy and our continued focus on delivering value to our customers. As we move forward, we’re focused on scaling our impact through innovation, expanding access to financial services, and supporting the country’s economic progress.”

Standard Chartered Pakistan Delivers Profit Before Tax Of PKR 17 Billion

Standard Chartered Pakistan’s results reflect a resilient start to the year underpinned by prudent risk management.

Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan Limited (SCBPL) delivered a resilient financial performance with profit before tax of PKR 17.0bn compared to PKR 24.7bn in Q1’24.

The Bank posted revenue of PKR 23.1 bn, lower by PKR 6.4bn primarily due to a sharp reduction in interest rates. This was partially offset by an increase in non-funded income and a decrease in cost of funds. While expenses increased 11% on the back of inflation, investment in infrastructure and people, bank continues to lead the industry with lowest cost to income ratio of 25%.  A prudent risk approach and recoveries of bad debts led to a benign charge of PKR 0.3bn during the year.

On the liabilities side, the Bank’s total deposits stood at PKR 726bn; down by 13% from start of the year. The Bank’s deposit mix improved with current accounts now constituting 54% of the deposit book, compared to 48% last year. On the assets side, net advances recorded a strong growth of PKR 54bn or 31% during Q1’25, reflecting pick-up in economic momentum.

With a healthy Return on Equity (ROE) of 28.9% for the period and a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 19.0%, the Bank remains well positioned for future growth.

The Bank continues to monitor the economic landscape and is well placed to cater to the needs of its clients and will continue its strategy to build a profitable, efficient, and sustainable portfolio bringing best-in-class services and solutions; focusing on its differentiated cross-border capabilities, wealth management expertise and digital transformation.

Through our global Future makers initiative the Bank serves the communities it operates in by running programmes that directly work on addressing gender disparity, building economic inclusion and creating pathways to employability for disadvantaged groups. The SC Women in Tech Programme has been hugely successful in building economic inclusion and ensuring women entrepreneurs receive access to funding with over 145 women-led businesses supported since 2019. Through the Goal Programme the Bank works to create concrete pathways for underprivileged girls and young women to become economically resilient. Since its launch in 2016, the Bank has impacted more than 90,000 adolescent girls in Pakistan by providing financial literacy, life skills and employability training. The Bank also partners with Karachi United and launched the Seventh Youth League – Football Tournament to promote sports amongst children for the seventh year in a row.

Commenting on the results, Rehan Shaikh, Chief Executive Officer & Head of Coverage, Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan said, “Standard Chartered Pakistan’s results reflect a resilient start to the year underpinned by prudent risk management, disciplined execution and continued trust from our clients. The current lower interest rate environment has supported a healthy uptick in lending which bodes well for business expansion. We have seen encouraging momentum across key segments and remain focused on delivering sustainable growth and contributing meaningfully to Pakistan’s economy.”

China Rushes PL-15 Missile to Pakistan Amid Rising India Tensions Hint at Escalation

By now, we all know about the India-Pak situation and how, one after another, India continues to pull the strings to make matters worse. Now what choice does a country 7 times smaller than it’s neighbour has? Fight back. This is exactly what Pakistan is doing now. I mean, you can’t just expect it to sit back and watch.

You threaten to cut off our water, send our patients back and openly massacre Muslims in the name of revenge and then expect us to stay complacent?

Recent reports confirm that China has delivered its cutting-edge PL-15 missiles to Pakistan. And as expected, it has been met with hand-wringing in the Indian and Western media. However, all these media platforms must know that this is not an act of provocation; it is just a long overdue reply to balance the scales.

PL-15: A Game-Changer in Air Combat

The PL-15 is a formidable weapon; a beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM). The missile is said to have a range of over 200 kilometers, powered by advanced AESA radar technology. In simpler terms, it gives our pilots the ability to strike first and strike accurately, even before other aircraft come close enough to pose a serious threat.

For years, Pakistan’s Air Force has been quietly modernising, often overshadowed by India’s massive defense budget. Yet despite New Delhi’s PR machinery touting its “superiority,” Pakistan has consistently maintained credible deterrence. This was shown during the 2019 post-Balakot fight where our pilots downed an Indian aircraft and captured one of their pilots alive (the “tea is fantastic” reference).

The arrival of the PL-15 missiles, particularly when integrated into our JF-17 Block III fleet, gives Pakistan a much-needed technological edge; one that cannot be dismissed so easily.

Strategic Timing: Why Pakistan Needs this Now

China’s expedited delivery of the PL-15 is not about “offense.” It is about credible deterrence. A strong Pakistan Air Force equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry like the PL-15 ensures that any future misadventures will be met with swift and decisive retaliation. It also sends a clear signal to the world: Pakistan is not isolated, nor is it defenseless.

The Hypocrisy of Western Narratives

The double standards in international commentary are glaring. When India acquires cutting-edge missiles like the Meteor for its Rafales, it’s hailed as “modernisation” and “self-defense.” When Pakistan acquires similar capabilities like PL-15, it’s labelled “destabilisation.” Pakistan has repeatedly called for dialogue, for peace and for de-escalation. Yet we are left with little choice but to prepare for the worst. Strategic parity is not optional for us but it is essential for our survival.

Moreover, critics conveniently forget that Pakistan’s nuclear doctrine is defensive. If India feels threatened by Pakistan acquiring defensive capabilities, perhaps it should introspect on why its neighbours feel the need to arm themselves in the first place.

Jhelum River, Pakistan, Stabilise Following Mangla Discharge

Jhelum River, Pakistan, Stabilise Following Mangla Discharge
Jhelum River, Pakistan, Stabilise Following Mangla Discharge

The Jhelum River, Pakistan, is an important source of water for Punjab and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK). Its flow varies with seasons and the management of upstream dams. Recent events raised concerns, but flows are now stabilising.

The River System and Mangla Dam

The Jhelum river originates in the Himalayas. It runs through Indian-administered Kashmir before it enters Pakistan. The river is important for agriculture and hydropower. Mangla Dam is located on the river in AJK. It is a giant earth-filled dam that retains water during wet seasons, such as monsoons or spring snowmelt. The authorities release this water in dry seasons, primarily for irrigation canals of Punjab. The dam also produces considerable electricity.

Recent Water Level Surge

Late April 2025 saw water levels in the Jhelum suddenly increase close to Muzaffarabad. The rise created alarm among local communities. This occurred at the time of heightened political tensions following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). People were concerned about unannounced water releases by Indian upstream projects, such as the Kishanganga dam. There were reports that this had happened.

Official Explanations and Data

But Pakistan flood forecasting authorities presented a different picture. They explained that flows are usually higher from April to June. Snowmelt in the catchment of the river results in increased flows. Officials explained that the water levels recorded, although higher, were still below the official “low flood” level of the Jhelum at Mangla.

Managed Flows and Normalisation

The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) monitors water inflow and outflow at Mangla Dam on a daily basis. After the phase of increased inflow (about 47,100 cusecs in late April), IRSA regulated the outflows. Controlled releases (e.g., 32,000 cusecs) from Mangla were reported. This regulation balances downstream irrigation requirements, dam safety, and flood control. Although surges upstream of the dam can concern local communities, the operation of the dam tends to normalise flows further downstream. This keeps river levels in line with seasonal requirements. Proper management by WAPDA and IRSA remains essential for the region.

Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye

Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye
Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye

Science has the knack of disclosing marvels that lie beyond our immediate sight. Just recently, researchers uncovered an interesting one regarding colour perception. They discovered a colour, “Olo,” which lies outside the range of colors humans typically perceive.

Unveiling the Invisible

A group of scientists in America reported this finding. Olo is not a laboratory-created colour; it always existed. Yet it is outside the spectrum of wavelengths of light the human eye usually perceives. Our eyes hold cone cells responsive to red, green, and blue light. These enable us to see the familiar spectrum of colours. Olo exists outside these parameters.

Read More: According To Science, Here Are 10 Physical Traits That Reveal Your Personality

Viewing Olo with Technology

Olo can’t be directly viewed by the human eye. The researchers created a custom method, dubbed Oz, which makes it observable. The procedure involves the careful targeting of laser pulses into the eye. Such pulses excite the cone cells in a selective manner. Practically, the procedure “misleads” the brain into recognising a colour stimulus it wouldn’t otherwise receive in the environment.

What Does Olo Look Like?

How do you define a colour that no one has ever seen? Five volunteers experienced Olo with the Oz technique. They tried to translate their perception into language. Descriptions were slightly different but tended towards a teal-like shade. Some called it an extremely bright or saturated blue-green colour, unlike anything they had ever seen before. It illustrates the distinction between the physical reality of light wavelengths and our biological capacity to see them.

Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye

Beyond the Visible Spectrum

This finding raises interesting questions regarding human perception. It is a reminder that our senses offer only a partial view of the physical world. Technologies such as the Oz technique may permit us further glimpses beyond our natural limits of sensing. Although Olo itself may not revolutionise our everyday lives, knowing how we can see previously unseen things advances the limits of neuroscience and optics.

Just think about it: Olo is just one colour that we can’t perceive; what else is out there?

Euphoria Season 3 Buzz: What About Cassie?

Euphoria Season 3 Buzz: What About Cassie?
Euphoria Season 3 Buzz: What About Cassie?

Fans are eagerly waiting for Euphoria Season 3. Season 2 concluded with huge cliffhangers. A long wait, potentially due to production delays and script revisions, has heightened anticipation. People guess far and wide online, particularly about Cassie Howard (played by Sydney Sweeney). Are recent photos genuine? Is Cassie getting married?

Cassie’s Season 2 Ending

Season 2 left Cassie in disarray. Her toxic, secret relationship with Nate Jacobs came to an end dramatically during Lexi’s play. This revelation resulted in a confrontation with her best friend, Maddy. Cassie appeared alone and devastated. She had lost friendships and her relationship with Nate. We last saw her upset as police took Nate away. Her future was very uncertain.

The Marriage Rumours

Fans are concerned about how Cassie will heal. She frequently finds validation in romance, particularly unhealthy relationships. This situation is the basis of rumours, such as her getting married. Unverified pictures or fan edits on the web have also perpetuated the rumours. HBO, however, did not confirm this plot. There are no promotional photos issued officially to validate the notion. Be cautious in taking online “leaks” seriously; they are mostly untrue.

Likely Focus for Season 3

Euphoria Season 3 must deal with Cassie’s mental health and way forward. Will she look for another self-destructive relationship for approval? Or will she embark on a path of self-recovery? Maybe she will attempt to repair her friendships with Lexi or Maddy. Sydney Sweeney’s acting made Cassie multidimensional and polarising. Her character’s evolution is one of the most interesting aspects about the new season.

Intense Fan Speculation

Wedding bells don’t look likely given present news. However, the talk proves how concerned fans are with Cassie’s destiny. Absence of confirmed reports and speculation over delays serve only to spur further theories. Until HBO presents formal news, Cassie’s fate is still a big, euphoric question. Will she gain stability, turmoil, or acceptance?

Mohammad Amir Strikes Babar Azam Again in PSL X

Mohammad Amir Strikes Babar Azam Again in PSL X
Mohammad Amir Strikes Babar Azam Again in PSL X

In the other blazing episode of their increased rivalry, Mohammad Amir again defeated Babar Azam in PSL X. Playing with the Quetta Gladiators, Amir struck early to depose the captain of Peshawar Zalmi and triggered chaotic celebration with none other than Gladiators’ advisor Sir Vivian Richards.

The Key Moment in Lahore

The moment unfolded during Zalmi’s chase of a stiff 179-run target at a buzzing Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Babar, opening the innings as usual, looked sharp early on but could only manage 12 runs off 7 deliveries before Amir produced a brilliant piece of bowling. Delivering a good-length ball that jagged back sharply, Amir trapped Babar right in front. As the finger of the umpire went up, Amir set off running, bellowing with joy and exchanging a wild high-five with the great Sir Viv on the sidelines.

Amir’s Dominance Over Babar

Amir has now sent Babar packing twice in this PSL season, including a previous dismissal for a duck in Rawalpindi. In their numerous encounters in T20s, Amir has had the evident upper hand — sending Babar packing three times in seven matches and restricting him to a humble strike rate of only 87.9.

While fans and commentators like to talk about the respectful off-field friendship between the two superstars, the on-field contests have been anything but friendly. Every match is played with ferocity, and Sunday’s contest only added more flavour to their tale. Amir’s control over the ball and Babar’s inability to assert himself against the left-arm paceman have been a subplot that PSL enthusiasts eagerly follow each season.

A Statement for Quetta Gladiators

For Quetta Gladiators, Amir’s early blow was pivotal in setting the tone for a robust defence of their score. And for Sir Vivian Richards, whose love for the Gladiators has been apparent for years, joining Amir’s jubilation was a reflection of how much he’s emotionally invested in every second of the team’s journey.

As PSL 2025 gathers steam, one thing’s certain: when Babar Azam confronts Mohammad Amir, fireworks are just around the corner.

Kane Williamson Showers High Praise on Babar Azam

Kane Williamson Picks the Next Fab Five – And He’s Got an Eye for Talent!

Kane Williamson may have only just arrived for his stint with Karachi Kings, but he’s already made headlines — and for all the right reasons.

In a refreshing and heartfelt interview with a local sports platform, the former New Zealand captain opened up about the Pakistani cricketers who have impressed him over the years. And no surprise here — at the top of his list stands the ever-elegant Babar Azam.

“A Beautiful Player to Watch”

You could almost see the admiration on Williamson’s face when he spoke about Babar.

“I’ve always enjoyed watching Babar bat. He’s an amazing player, and a beautiful player to watch,” he shared warmly. “He’s one that I’ve always enjoyed.”

High praise, especially coming from someone who’s widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted batters of his generation.

Though he mentioned he’s only been in Pakistan for a couple of days, Williamson’s words made it clear: Babar Azam’s class isn’t something you need weeks to notice — it’s evident from the first ball.

On the Strike Rate Debate: A Voice of Reason

Of course, no discussion about Pakistan cricket these days is complete without touching on the hot-button topic — strike rates.

Both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been under the microscope for their so-called “low strike rates” in T20 cricket. But Kane Williamson, with the calmness and wisdom he’s known for, offered a different, much-needed perspective.

“It’s all about what the team requires and trying to win games for your team,” he said.
In other words, context matters. Big time.

Pointing to the PSL’s variety of scores — from high-scoring thrillers touching 230 to low-grind matches around 130 — he emphasized the need for adaptability.

“Whether it’s scoring quickly on some days or playing more conservatively, as long as it’s geared towards winning games for your side, that’s what’s important,” Williamson explained.

Fast Bowlers: Pakistan’s Timeless Strength

Kane Williamson didn’t just stop at Babar and Rizwan. The conversation naturally shifted to Pakistan’s rich legacy of fast bowling — a tradition that continues to thrive today.

“Pakistan has always had great depth in fast bowlers, which has been a strength of their cricket,” he pointed out, nodding to an endless line of quicks who have terrified batters across generations.

When asked to name standouts, Kane had two names ready without missing a beat — Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf.

“Shaheen has been incredible, especially with the new ball,” he said, highlighting the left-arm pacer’s ability to swing the ball dangerously early on.

As for Haris, Williamson was just as complimentary: “He’s been a fantastic performer for Pakistan for a long time.”

In a world where competitive cricket often gets wrapped up in mind games and trash talk, it’s genuinely refreshing to see one world-class player speaking so openly and respectfully about his peers.

Liverpool Crowned Premier League Champions in Style!

Liverpool Crowned Premier League Champions in Style!
Liverpool Crowned Premier League Champions in Style!

It finally happened — and it happened spectacularly! Liverpool demolished Tottenham 5-1 on a magical Sunday at Anfield to clinch their 20th English top-flight title, tying bitter rivals Manchester United for the most in history.

An Early Shock, A Swift Response

The match didn’t start the way Liverpool fans might have dreamt the night before.
Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke silenced the 60,000-strong Anfield crowd early on, sneaking in an unexpected opener. But if Spurs thought they were about to spoil the party, they were in for a rude awakening.

Within minutes, Luis Díaz tapped in the equaliser and Alexis Mac Allister unleashed a thunderbolt to turn the game on its head. From that point on, it felt like Liverpool were writing their coronation speech — and they were writing it in capital letters.

Feeding Off the Anfield Roar

Anfield wasn’t just a stadium on Sunday; it was a living, breathing beast. The fans sang their hearts out, scarves aloft under the warm spring sunshine.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone” echoed across the ground — and honestly, it gave everyone goosebumps. Fueled by that passion, Cody Gakpo hammered home Liverpool’s third, leaving Spurs shell-shocked.

Mohamed Salah, ever the talisman, then delivered the goal every red heart was waiting for, cutting in brilliantly and smashing it into the bottom corner. To cap it off, Destiny Udogie’s own goal made it five. At that point, it wasn’t just a match — it was a party.

A New Era Under Arne Slot

Winning a Premier League title is always special. But winning it in your manager’s debut season? That’s storybook stuff.

Arne Slot, stepping into the massive shoes left behind by Jurgen Klopp, has done more than just steady the ship — he’s steered it to glory.

After the match, Slot paid tribute to the foundation Klopp built, saying:
“The work Jurgen and Pep (Lijnders) left, the culture, work-rate, and quality, was outstanding. We started really well, and maybe it helped that City had a difficult spell they haven’t had in five years.”

Humble words from a man who has delivered silverware in his very first season.

For Liverpool fans, this title is about more than just numbers. Yes, it’s their second Premier League title. Yes, it ties them with Manchester United on 20 top-flight crowns.

But more than anything, it’s the first time since 1990 they’ve been able to celebrate a league win inside a packed Anfield. (Their 2020 triumph came during those eerie, empty Covid-era matches.)

With four games still left, Liverpool has an eye-watering 15-point lead over second-placed Arsenal. Tottenham, meanwhile, are left licking their wounds, languishing in 16th place and facing serious questions about Ange Postecoglou’s future.

Big names like Salah and Van Dijk have already committed their futures to the club.
However, rumours are swirling that Trent Alexander-Arnold might be Madrid-bound this summer. Time will tell.

PSL 10 Fixtures Shuffled: PCB Moves Matches Amid Logistical Woes

PSL 10 Fixtures Shuffled: PCB Moves Matches Amid Logistical Woes

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has just shuffled a few matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10!

In an announcement on Sunday, the PCB confirmed that two upcoming fixtures have been rescheduled. The reasons? A mix of operational challenges and the blazing heat that’s been sweeping parts of Pakistan lately.

Let’s get into the details.

First up, the highly anticipated afternoon match between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings, originally set for May 1 at Multan Cricket Stadium, is on the move.

Instead, the game will now take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Interestingly, that same evening, Lahore Qalandars are scheduled to host Quetta Gladiators at Gaddafi Stadium as well.

That’s not the only tweak. The final match that was supposed to wrap up the Multan leg of the PSL 10 — Multan Sultans versus Quetta Gladiators — has also been rescheduled.

Instead of an earlier date, it will now be played on May 11 in the evening.

A smart move, honestly. Evening matches will definitely help players and fans avoid the punishing midday heat.

While the PCB’s official statement emphasised ‘operational ease’ and ‘heat waves’ as reasons for the changes, sources had a bit more to add.

Apparently, tournament broadcasters were facing logistical challenges, which played a key role in nudging the PCB toward rescheduling. It makes sense — TV production crews have tight timelines, and moving between cities in Pakistan’s heat can’t be easy.

In case you missed it, the defending champions Islamabad United are absolutely flying high in PSL 10! They’ve won all five of their matches so far and are sitting pretty at the top of the table with 10 points.

Mohammad Amir Comments on Dismissing Babar Azam in PSL 10

Quetta Gladiators’ pacer Mohammad Amir comments on the on-field fight after dismissing Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam for the second time in the ongoing PSL 10.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Amir dismissed the idea of any personal rivalry with Babar. He said such rivalries entertain fans and are a key part of T20 cricket. “This is not a fight,” Amir said. “If you follow social media or even watch the match on the ground, you’ll see people enjoying these moments. At the end of the day, our job is to entertain the fans.”

Amir added that aggression is natural in fast bowling, and the crowd loves it. He said, “As a bowler, my job is to challenge the batter and show aggression, while the batter’s job is to score runs and dominate the bowler. I believe this should happen, but within limits. My fans post my videos, and Babar’s fans post his. It’s all great for the tournament.”

He further added, “Aggression is the beauty of fast bowling, and the crowd enjoys it when a bowler shows intensity on the field. While I do show aggression, my main focus is always on my bowling: how to adapt to the wicket, which increases my chances of success.”

Amir explained that he doesn’t focus only on the batter, even during PSL 10. “I don’t focus solely on the batter but always observe the wicket and its conditions. That’s where my attention lies,” he said.

The pacer also praised Babar Azam, calling him a top player. He stressed the need for strategic bowling against top-class batters. Amir shared that he had a specific plan for Babar, aiming to use a swing with the new ball. “Babar Azam is a big player, there’s no doubt about that. My plan is always to utilise the swing with the new ball. Whether it’s Saim or Babar, my focus was to bring the ball back in, as I thought Babar would be prepared for the outswinger,” he added.

Neeraj Chopra Slams Hate and Abuse Over Arshad Nadeem’s Invitation to Compete in India

Neeraj Chopra Slams Hate and Abuse Over Arshad Nadeem’s Invitation to Compete in India
Neeraj Chopra Slams Hate and Abuse Over Arshad Nadeem’s Invitation to Compete in India

Indian javelin icon Neeraj Chopra weighed in on the recent “hate and abuse” he faced for inviting his Pakistani counterpart, Arshad Nadeem, to the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic in India. Chopra shared his sentiments in a social media post on Friday after his offer caused controversy over strained diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan.

Invitation to Arshad Nadeem for Neeraj Chopra Classic

Earlier this week, Neeraj Chopra invited Arshad Nadeem to the Neeraj Chopra Classic, which will take place on May 24 in India. The event, being held under the World Athletics Gold category, will feature other high-level athletes, such as former world champions Anderson Peters, Julius Yego, and 2016 Olympic champion Thomas Roehler.

At a press briefing, Chopra said, “Like other top throwers, Arshad has received an invitation, too. It will involve government approval. Once all of this is firm up, we will see the final list.”

Even as the invitation came, tensions between India and Pakistan increased after an attack in Indian-held Kashmir left people dead, prompting retaliatory actions. Pakistan suspended trade and shut airspaces with India, which made things complicated for Chopra’s gesture.

Neeraj Chopra Speaks Out Against Hate and Abuse

Neeraj Chopra, who won a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but had to be content with silver behind Nadeem in Paris last year, reacted to the hate and abuse on social media directed towards him. “I am not a man of many words, but that doesn’t mean I won’t speak up against what I believe is wrong,” Chopra said. “Especially when it is questioning my affection for our country, and the respect and honour of my family.”

Chopra made sure to stress that his invite to Nadeem was “from one athlete to another, nothing more, nothing less.” The reason behind the Neeraj Chopra Classic was to have the finest sports persons come to India, promote India as a sporting hub with global-standard events.

National Interest Comes First for Neeraj Chopra

With the latest diplomatic strains in mind, Neeraj Chopra attested that Arshad Nadeem’s presence at the NC Classic was “completely out of the question” in light of current events. “My nation and its interests first always,” Chopra insisted, while stating his thoughts and prayers were with all the people touched by the situation.

Chopra articulated his pain and irritation at the tirades made about him and his family. “I have brought my country pride for all these years now, and therefore it pains to see my integrity questioned,” he said. He also regretted how untruths had been spun around him, insisting that just because he didn’t utter a word, it did not mean that was true.

Defending His Family and Values

Chopra also addressed the unjustified criticism against his family, especially his mother, Saroj Devi, whose innocent remarks had earlier been hailed but were now being targeted. “When my mother had said something innocent a year ago, there was a flood of praise for her opinion. Today, the same individuals haven’t spared her from criticising her for that very same remark,” Chopra said.

His mother had been delighted with both her son’s silver medal and Nadeem’s gold, saying that “it was ‘my child’ Arshad who had bagged gold.” Nadeem’s mother, Raziah Parveen, also expressed her admiration for Chopra, referring to him as “like a son” and wishing him her prayers.

Looking Ahead: Neeraj Chopra’s Commitment to India

Neeraj Chopra reaffirmed his loyalty to his nation and his resolve to work even more diligently. “I will work even harder so that the world never forgets India and gazes at it with envy and respect for all the right reasons,” he announced.

Notwithstanding the competition, Chopra and Nadeem are close friends. Nadeem had earlier mentioned their camaraderie, “We have to work hard for our countries when we are playing against each other. I wish our friendship endures for a long time.”

Chopra’s words are a stirring reminder of the individual sacrifices sportspersons make when they are representing their nation globally, dealing with both friendly competitions and pressures from society.

Explosion at an Iranian Port Kills 28, Over 800 Injured

Explosion at an Iranian Port Kills 28, Over 800 Injured

At least 28 people have died and 800 others are injured after a huge explosion at the port of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, according to state media reports. Videos show a massive plume of thick, grey smoke rising from the Shahid Rajaee part of the port. Officials say the blast is likely linked to chemicals stored there.

Iran’s Minister of the Interior, Eskandar Momeni, said six people are still missing. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire but are facing difficulties due to high winds, Iranian media reported.

The government has not yet provided a confirmed cause for the explosion. Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said, “It would take some time to establish the cause, but so far what has been determined is that containers were stored in a corner of the port that likely contained chemicals which exploded.” She added, “But until the fire is extinguished, it’s hard to ascertain the cause.”

Iran’s National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said the explosion was not linked to the nearby refineries, fuel tanks or oil pipelines. Earlier, Iranian official media had suggested that a fuel tanker explosion might have caused the blast, but this remains unconfirmed.

Authorities Declare State of Emergency

Authorities declared a state of emergency in Bandar Abbas due to a “significant rise in air pollution.” The Ministry of Health has mobilised health teams and put emergency measures in place to protect public health. Citizens are advised to stay indoors, avoid going out and keep windows closed, according to official Iranian media.

Mehr News Agency released surveillance footage showing the moment of the explosion at an Iranian port, which appeared to occur in a warehouse. Other videos showed helicopters dropping water over the fire. State media reported that debris had spread across a wide area, with many port buildings badly damaged. Windows were shattered several kilometres away. Some reports mentioned that people were trapped under rubble.

The region’s governor, Mohammad Ashouri Taziani, said the injured are being moved to medical centres in Bandar Abbas. The port is closed and maritime operations have been suspended.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has ordered an investigation into the incident. He wrote on X that the Interior Minister had been sent to the region to “examine the dimensions of the accident.” He emphasised the need for “a comprehensive assessment of the causes of the incident” to prevent future accidents.

State broadcaster IRIB said the explosion at an Iranian port occurred in the chemical and sulphur area of the port.

Press TV showed many people lining up to donate blood for the injured. Shahid Rajaee Port handles about 70 million tonnes of cargo annually. It has 500,000 square metres of warehouses and 35 shipping berths, making it a major hub for oil and shipping in the region.

Pahalgam Attack Sparks Outrage: Celebrities Demand Justice and Peace

Pahalgam Attack Sparks Outrage: Celebrities Demand Justice and Peace
All of your celebrities are here to talk about Pahalgam but nobody was there to talk about Palestine. What kind of humanity is this?

In a world already reeling from division and tragedy, the latest attack in Pahalgam, a scenic town in the Indian-administered Kashmir region, has hit a raw emotional nerve. The attack, which took innocent lives and left many more in mourning, has sent shockwaves on social media. Celebrities, influencers, and the general public are calling for accountability, empathy, and peace.

What Happened in Pahalgam?

Pahalgam, usually famous for its serene and stunning beauty, was converted into a horror scene and a place of chaos. A spate of violence broke out unexpectedly, leaving loss, bloodshed, and unanswered questions behind. Innocent civilians were killed in a tragedy that still haunts the area. Survivors are struggling with trauma, and families are trying to understand what occurred.

Celebrities Use their Voices for Peace and Justice

At such times, public opinion wields enormous power. Most celebrities have gone online, not to self-promote, but to express outrage, solidarity, and grief. Their responses are an echo of what most people feel: anguish, bewilderment, and a desperate yearning for peace.

Azfar Rehman’s Heartfelt Message

Actor Azfar Rehman, who belongs to Kashmiri roots, was full of anguish and said,

“Being a Kashmiri myself… my heart bleeds for all the innocent souls who lost their lives & loved ones in Pahalgam… May Allah protect all mankind, be it anywhere in the world. #Kashmir”

His emotional involvement makes his message all the more profound. Azfar’s tweet was not sympathy but personal sorrow and a call for world peace.

Sabeen Farooq’s Emotional Plea

Actress Sabeen Farooq was brutally honest in her message. She pointed out that pain does not discriminate: “Khudara chahe wo Palestine hai ya Pahalgam. har jagah ghar ujray hain. pyaroon ke samne pyare datal ho gaye.”

She not only spoke about Pahalgam; she linked the dots to Palestine as well, appealing to Pakistani as well as Indian media to act responsibly and refrain from misusing human agony for agendas. Her words also make us recall that empathy isn’t selective, it’s universal.

Farhan Saeed Blasts Irresponsible Journalism

Her words did not let us forget that violence in any place is a tragedy to all. She was calling for compassion, for empathy, for peace as the only true answers.

Mishi Khan’s Contrasting View

Though most defended the celebrities’ stance, Mishi Khan posed a provocative question: “All of your celebrities are here to talk about Pahalgam, but nobody was there to talk about Palestine. What kind of humanity is this?” Her question echoed a sentiment gaining traction online about the disparity in celebrity activism. She wondered if empathy is being selected based on trends or geography.

The Role of Social Media in Times of Tragedy

Social media can be a two-edged sword. While it facilitates awareness, it also intensifies biases, misinformation, and outrage. At times of crises such as Pahalgam, users are under an obligation to verify, empathise, and share with caution, not react.

Pakistan Suspends Simla Agreement in Retaliation to India: What Happens Now?

Pakistan Suspends Simla Agreement in Retaliation to India
Pakistan Suspends Simla Agreement in Retaliation to India

In a dramatic turn of events, Pakistan has announced the suspension of the historic Simla Agreement due to the recent actions taken by India after the Kashmir attack. This decision has sparked widespread concern over the stability of South Asia, a region historically fraught with tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. But what exactly is the Simla Agreement, why is this move significant, and what could happen next?

What is the Simla Agreement? A Brief Historical Overview

The Simla Agreement, signed on July 2, 1972, was a landmark peace accord between India and Pakistan following the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. The agreement was signed in Simla (now Shimla), India, by Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Pakistani President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Simla Accord
Simla Accord

The key objectives of the Simla Agreement were:

  • Peaceful resolution of disputes: Both countries agreed to resolve their differences, including the Kashmir issue, through peaceful bilateral negotiations.
  • Line of Control (LoC): It formalised the ceasefire line in Kashmir as the Line of Control, not to be altered unilaterally.
  • Non-intervention: Both sides pledged not to interfere in each other’s internal affairs.

Read More: India Suspends Indus Water Treaty? What Does This Mean for Pakistan?

The agreement has served as the bedrock of India-Pakistan diplomatic engagement for over five decades. It reinforced the idea that all disputes should be resolved bilaterally, keeping third-party involvement at bay.

Why Pakistan Suspended the Agreement Now

The Simla Agreement anchor has now been cast aside. Pakistan’s foreign ministry, in a sharply worded statement, declared the suspension of the agreement, citing India’s “repeated violations” and “unilateral actions” that have eroded the spirit of the accord.

Beyond Kashmir, Pakistan’s decision seems influenced by a broader dissatisfaction with India’s refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue. It is fueled by the lack of bilateral talks, ongoing cross-border skirmishes, and India’s deepening strategic partnerships with other countries.

Pakistan’s suspension of the Simla Agreement can thus be seen as both a protest and a pivot—signalling that it no longer feels constrained by a bilateral approach.

Why Pakistan Suspended the Agreement Now
Why Pakistan Suspended the Agreement Now

A New Chapter or Dangerous Drift?

So, what does this mean for the region and for the future of India-Pakistan relations? Firstly, the abandonment of bilateralism opens the door for internationalisation of the Kashmir dispute (a move India has always resisted). With the Simla Agreement no longer in play, Pakistan could more assertively push the issue in forums such as the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, or even seek mediation from allies like China and Turkey.

Secondly, the breakdown of the agreement removes an important mechanism for de-escalation. In the past, even during crises like the Kargil War or the Pulwama-Balakot standoff, the existence of a bilateral framework allowed both sides to pull back from the brink. Without this framework, the potential for miscalculation or unintended escalation increases dramatically, particularly in a region where both countries maintain sizeable conventional forces and nuclear arsenals.

Diplomatic relations could deteriorate further. With no formal agreement guiding engagement, future interactions may be shaped more by reactive posturing than by structured dialogue. This could lead to a prolonged diplomatic freeze, with both nations hardening their stances and reducing avenues for resolution.

That said, it is also possible that this dramatic move by Pakistan is intended as a pressure tactic to shake India and reignite engagement. Only the future response will reveal the purpose.
