Harry Brook Pulls Out of IPL 2025 to Focus on England Duty

harry-brook-pulls-out-of-ipl-2025-to-focus-on-england-duty

In a surprising but understandable move, England’s rising star, Harry Brook, has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, citing the need to “recharge” and focus on his international commitments.

This decision comes at a time when Brook is being hailed as one of the frontrunners to replace Jos Buttler as England’s white-ball captain—a huge responsibility that requires full dedication.

A Tough Decision

At just 26, Brook has already made a name for himself as one of the most promising young talents in world cricket. Despite being signed by Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL season, he posted an emotional message on his social media on Monday announcing his withdrawal.

“I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL,” he wrote. “I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters.” It’s clear this wasn’t an easy choice for him, but one he feels is necessary.

A Prioritization of International Cricket

Harry Brook explained that the decision comes at a critical time in his career, with England set for a busy schedule, including a five-Test series against India in June and the highly anticipated Ashes tour to Australia later in the year.

There are also a number of white-ball series against West Indies, South Africa, and Ireland, plus a one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May.

“This is a really important time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series,” Brook said. “In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date.”

While his withdrawal could be disappointing for fans of the Delhi Capitals, especially given his potential to shine in the IPL, Brook is clear about his priorities. He’s not only thinking about his performance but also the long-term impact on his career with England.

The IPL Experience and His Growth

This isn’t the first time Brook has pulled out of the IPL. Last year, he stepped away from his contract with the Delhi franchise due to the death of his grandmother. However, in his brief IPL career so far, he’s already proven his worth.

In the 2023 IPL, while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Brook scored a blistering 55-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders—a knock that made the cricketing world sit up and take notice of him.

Despite this, Brook understands that there are bigger fish to fry for England in the coming months, and he’s prepared to give his all for the national team.

Respecting the Demands of International Cricket

“It is a really important time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series,” Brook said, acknowledging the heavy schedule ahead.

He’s making a conscious decision to ensure his fitness, focus, and energy are all in the right place for what’s to come, particularly with the Ashes looming large later this year.

While some fans may feel disappointed by Brook’s decision to miss out on the IPL, his focus on England’s national commitments is something cricket fans can certainly respect.

He’s making sure he’s at his best when the stakes are highest, not only for his career but for the success of the national team.

Sarfaraz Ahmed Comes Out in Support of Pakistan Cricket Team

Sarfaraz Ahmed Comes Out in Support of Pakistan Cricket Team

Ex-Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed stepped up in the support of the national team after their lackluster early elimination from the Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan, hosting the tournament as well as reigning champions, fell short with its premature elimination due to defeats to New Zealand and India, evoking harsh attacks from supporters as well as former players.

A Call for Balanced Criticism

Responding to the backlash, Sarfaraz Ahmed appealed to the cricket fraternity to be more sympathetic and encouraging. While talking to the media in Karachi, he said, “It is always said that the team didn’t perform well. Previous cricketers, management and coaches realise that no team plays to lose.” His message was a gentle reminder that there should be balance and constructive criticism, particularly from those who had gone through the same in their playing careers.

Hope for the Future

Sarfaraz hoped for the young Pakistan team travelling to New Zealand, realising the challenge of playing under unknown conditions. The New Zealand tour squad of the Pakistan cricket team comprises young players. I hope we will get positive results, but New Zealand’s conditions have always been tough,” he said.

In spite of the scathing reaction after the Champions Trophy, Sarfaraz hopes for the potential and development of the team.

A Message to the Fans

Sarfaraz also requested the country’s cricket-loving population to keep supporting the team, particularly in difficult times. “I would like to inform the nation that you have always supported the team. We request you to support the team once again. I hope good things will come for Pakistan cricket,” he added.

Mark Carney Wins Liberal Leadership, Becomes Canada’s PM

Mark Carney Wins Liberal Leadership, Becomes Canada's PM

Former central banker Mark Carney has won the race to lead Canada’s ruling Liberal Party and will succeed Justin Trudeau as prime minister, official results showed on Sunday. Carney, 59, secured 86% of votes to defeat former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland in a contest where nearly 152,000 party members participated.

Carney takes office at a challenging time as Canada faces a trade war with the US under President Donald Trump. “There’s someone who’s trying to weaken our economy,” Carney said about Trump, drawing loud boos at the party gathering. “He’s attacking Canadian workers, families and businesses. We can’t let him succeed.” He added, “This won’t be business as usual. We will have to do things that we haven’t imagined before, at speeds we didn’t think possible.”

Trudeau announced in January that he would step down after more than nine years in power. “Make no mistake, this is a nation-defining moment. Democracy is not a given. Freedom is not a given. Even Canada is not a given,” Trudeau said. Carney, with no prior political experience, argued that his background as a central banker in Canada and England made him the best choice to lead trade negotiations with Trump. He also stated, “My government will keep our tariffs on until the Americans show us respect.”

Polls show that neither the Liberals nor the Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, would win a majority government. However, Carney’s leadership has improved the party’s position. Two Liberal sources said he might call an election soon. Although he can serve as prime minister without a seat in the House of Commons, tradition suggests he should secure one quickly. Meanwhile, Poilievre has intensified his attacks, as Liberals compare him to Trump in a new campaign ad.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Responds to Sunil Gavaskar’s Comments on Pakistan’s Struggles

why-did-pakistan-chief-selector-inzamam-ul-haq-resign

Tensions and rivalries in cricket are nothing new, especially when it comes to the intense competition between India and Pakistan. But sometimes, the words spoken by cricketing legends themselves add fuel to the fire.

This time, it was Sunil Gavaskar, the iconic former Indian cricketer, whose comments about Pakistan’s cricket team following their disappointing performance in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 sparked a response from Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s own cricket legend.

Gavaskar’s Bold Remarks

During a recent interview, Gavaskar shared his thoughts on Pakistan’s struggles and their lack of bench strength. He boldly claimed, “A B team from India can certainly give Pakistan a tough fight.”

He went on to say that even India’s second-string side would be very difficult for Pakistan to beat in their current form. He also questioned Pakistan’s ability to produce top batters, specifically mentioning Inzamam-ul-Haq as an example.

For a country that has seen generations of world-class cricketing talent, these comments hit hard. Gavaskar didn’t stop there, implying that despite having talented players, Pakistan hasn’t built a strong backup, which has led to their inconsistency on the field.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Hits Back

As expected, the words didn’t sit well with Inzamam-ul-Haq, who recently responded during a TV show. He didn’t hold back and fired back at Gavaskar’s statements.

“India has performed well, but Gavaskar should also review the stats,” said Inzamam, reminding everyone of the history between the two nations.

He took a subtle jab at India, recalling the time when the Indian team pulled out of playing Pakistan in Sharjah—a period that left fans and pundits scratching their heads.

Inzamam also made it clear that while Gavaskar is a revered figure in cricket, some lines shouldn’t be crossed. “You have the right to praise your team, but it’s not right to say about another team like this,” he added, pointing out the importance of respect in the game.

Respect and Dignity in Cricket

What stood out the most in Inzamam’s response was his call for Gavaskar to maintain dignity when speaking about other nations. While he respects Gavaskar as a cricketing great, Inzamam urged him to be more mindful of his words when discussing another country.

“Gavaskar is a big and respectful cricketer, but I urge him not to undermine his own dignity with such statements,” said Inzamam, making it clear that a more thoughtful approach to commentary is necessary.

China to Boost AI, Big Data Use in Elderly and Social Care

China to Boost AI, Big Data Use in Elderly and Social Care

China is resorting to artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to combat its increasing aging population problem. While the population of the country fell for the third year running in 2024, with more than 310 million aged 60 years and older, the government is advocating for technological interventions to ensure sustainable development.

Improving Elderly and Social Care Services

Civil affairs minister Lu Zhiyuan recently unveiled the plan at China’s annual “Two Sessions” political convention, stressing that new technologies are needed to upgrade social services, elderly care and services for the handicapped. The aim is to make the services “more convenient, more accessible and more standardised.”

Robot Caregivers: China's Solution for Aging Population
Robot Caregivers: China’s Solution for Aging Population

This strategic pivot toward AI and big data is not solely a reaction to China’s low birth rate and dwindling workforce. It also represents China’s commitment to maintaining economic momentum despite a declining working-age population. DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, is playing a significant role in this transformation. Its latest AI model, DeepSeek-R1, has rapidly gained popularity, even surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT as the most-downloaded free app on the iOS App Store in the United States.

Overcoming Barriers with Homegrown Technology

Chinese local authorities have already incorporated DeepSeek’s AI model into their service offerings, an action that attests to the country’s desperation in responding to the social and economic implications of its aged population. This achievement occurs as much as there is continued U.S. prohibition on the sale of highly advanced AI chips to Chinese entities, proving China’s commitment to becoming an AI leader.

President Xi Jinping’s recent summit with technology executives, such as DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng, further emphasises China’s official support of the AI industry. The summit also had representatives from technology giants Tencent, Huawei and Xiaomi, with the President encouraging them to “show their talents.”

China to use AI in elder care as population ages
China to use AI in elder care as population ages

As China speeds up its push to incorporate AI and big data into old-age and social care, the world is observing how well this approach will cushion the effects of its population crisis. If it works, it may provide a template for other aging populations with similar problems.

Future Outlook

Over the next several years, AI-based solutions could become indispensable instruments in coping with the intricacies of care for the elderly so that China can stay on the trajectory of technological development even as its population ages.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Shut Down Retirement Rumors After Champions Trophy Win

virat-kohli-rohit-sharma-shut-down-retirement-rumors

The ICC Champions Trophy final in Dubai had fans buzzing with excitement, not just because of the high-stakes match, but also due to rumors swirling around two of India’s cricketing legends—Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Speculation had been mounting that the two might consider retiring from One Day International (ODI) cricket, regardless of the outcome. But following India’s thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand, those rumors were swiftly put to rest.

Celebration Over Retirement Talks

As soon as India lifted the Champions Trophy, the celebrations began, and it didn’t take long for the viral video of Virat and Rohit dancing to dandiya beats to take social media by storm.

Fans and critics couldn’t help but notice the joyful pictures and lively mood of the duo, putting any talk of retirement firmly on the back burner.

Kohli and Rohit, who had already retired from T20I cricket after their victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, had also been under scrutiny regarding their futures in ODIs.

Their performances leading up to the tournament had been somewhat underwhelming, which only added fuel to the retirement rumors. But the Champions Trophy win, and their clear words afterward, put all doubts to rest.

However, after the dance, Rohit Sharma, in his signature calm style, said, “Abhi hum koi retire nehi ho rahe (We are not retiring now…)”.

The sound of Kohli laughing in the background as he made the statement clearly showed that the two were on the same page. No retirement plans here—just celebrations and more cricket ahead.

Kohli’s Commitment to Continue

It was Virat Kohli, however, who went a step further, addressing the retirement rumors directly with a light-hearted yet firm message. The 36-year-old opened up, assuring fans that he wasn’t leaving the game anytime soon.

In fact, he made it clear that he was already thinking about the future of Indian cricket.

“Oh, for sure. I mean, you know, I, as Shubman (Gill) said, I try to speak to these guys as much as possible, try to share my experience, how I’ve been able to play for so long, try to step in wherever I can to help improve their games,” he stated.

“And yeah, it’s only, as they rightly say, when you leave, you want to leave the place in a better position.”

Kohli’s comments reflect a deep commitment to his career and a desire to contribute to the next generation of cricketers. His leadership and experience remain invaluable to Team India, especially as the team looks forward to future challenges.

While the rumors have been cleared up for now, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma seemed focused on the road ahead. With India’s sights firmly set on the 2027 ODI World Cup, it’s clear that these two cricketing giants aren’t going anywhere just yet.

US Deports Eight More Pakistanis Amid Strict Immigration Rules

A second flight carrying undocumented Pakistani immigrants deported from the United States will arrive in Pakistan next week, according to sources in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The Pakistani Embassy in the US confirmed that eight individuals, including Rehman, Saleem, Nawaz, Salman, Azeem, Khan and Khalid Masih, will be repatriated aboard a special American aircraft.

Among the deportees, six are being sent back for immigration violations, while two have criminal records. An FIA source stated, “Two individuals on the deportation list were found guilty of serious crimes, including rape and drug-related offences.” The aircraft will land at Noor Khan Airbase in Islamabad, where FIA officials and security personnel will handle the reception and verification process.

Authorities also confirmed the recent deportation of 56-year-old Syed Rizvi, a Pakistani national who had been residing illegally in Dallas, Texas. Rizvi entered the US in 2017 but violated immigration laws. The FBI arrested him on 31 January and he was officially deported on 25 February. US authorities provided his photograph and details to Pakistan for record-keeping.

An FIA official said, “We are closely monitoring all deportees to distinguish between those involved in criminal activities and those deported solely due to residency violations.” Upon arrival, the deportees will undergo legal screening, be questioned about their stay in the US and receive assistance for reintegration if they have no criminal background.

North Korean Hackers Cash Out $300M from $1.5bn ByBit Hack

North Korean Hackers Cash Out $300M from $1.5bn ByBit Hack

Hackers thought to be working for the North Korean regime have successfully cashed out at least $300m (£232m) of their record-breaking $1.5bn crypto heist. The criminals, known as Lazarus Group, swiped the huge haul of digital tokens in a hack on crypto exchange ByBit two weeks ago.

Experts tracking the stolen funds say the hackers are working nearly 24 hours a day, likely channeling the money into the regime’s military programmes. Dr. Tom Robinson, co-founder of Elliptic, stated, “Every minute matters for the hackers who are trying to confuse the money trail and they are extremely sophisticated in what they’re doing.”

ByBit lost 401,000 Ethereum coins after hackers secretly altered a wallet address during a transfer. The stolen funds were meant for ByBit’s digital wallet but were instead redirected to the hackers. ByBit CEO Ben Zhou assured customers that their funds were safe, as the firm replenished losses using investor loans.

“I imagine they have an entire room of people doing this using automated tools and years of experience. We can also see from their activity that they only take a few hours break each day, possibly working in shifts to get the crypto turned into cash.”

20% Funds Gone Dark

Elliptic’s analysis tallies with ByBit, which says that 20% of the funds have now “gone dark,” meaning it is unlikely to ever be recovered. He also launched the Lazarus Bounty programme, urging people to help trace and freeze stolen funds. More than $40 million has been identified, with participants earning over $4 million in rewards.

Despite these efforts, experts remain doubtful about recovering all the stolen funds. Elliptic’s analysis and ByBit’s reports indicate that 20% of the stolen crypto has “gone dark,” meaning it may never be recovered. Dr. Dorit Dor from cyber security firm Check Point said, “North Korea is a very closed system and closed economy, so they created a successful industry for hacking and laundering and they don’t care about the negative impression of cyber crime.”

ByBit and other firms have also accused crypto exchange eXch of helping hackers cash out over $90 million. eXch’s owner, Johann Roberts, admitted they initially failed to block the transfers due to a dispute with ByBit. However, he now claims to be cooperating. North Korea has never acknowledged the Lazarus Group, but the U.S. has accused them of funding the country’s military through cybercrime. The FBI has listed some Lazarus members on its Cyber Most Wanted list, though their chances of being arrested remain slim.

No PCB Official at Trophy Ceremony Despite Pakistan Being Host

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has raised concerns about the absence of a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official at the Champions Trophy 2025 presentation ceremony in Dubai, despite Pakistan being the official host of the tournament. Akhtar, in a video on X (formerly Twitter), questioned why no PCB representative was present when India lifted the trophy after defeating New Zealand in the final.

“India has won the ICC Champions Trophy. But one odd thing stood out—no one from the Pakistan Cricket Board was present during the presentation. Pakistan was the official host of the tournament, yet no representative was there to present the trophy. It is beyond me. The tournament was hosted by us, but there was nobody from Pakistan at the stage,” Akhtar said.

The trophy was handed over to Indian captain Rohit Sharma by ICC chairman Jay Shah, while BCCI president Roger Binny presented white blazers to the winners. Other dignitaries on stage included former Australia captain Aaron Finch and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. Notably, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not attend the ceremony, raising questions about Pakistan’s role in the event. Meanwhile, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla attended the second semi-final in Lahore, where South Africa played New Zealand.

Pakistan was unable to host the Champions Trophy final due to India’s qualification. Under a hybrid model, Lahore would have hosted the final only if India had not reached it. The Pakistan team played just one match at home, a group-stage fixture against New Zealand in Karachi, which they lost.

Their match against India took place in Dubai, where they faced a heavy defeat. Their final group game in Rawalpindi was abandoned due to rain. India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, with Rohit Sharma scoring 76 in the final to help his team chase New Zealand’s target of 252. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy played key roles in restricting New Zealand and securing the title.

Here’s Where the Famous ‘Tab Tabi’ Ramadan Song Came From

Here's Where the Famous 'Tab Tabi' Ramadan Song Came From

We all have an audio stuck in our heads this Ramadan season- the “Tab Tabi Tab” song. I’m sure you have also come across this viral meme sensation that has taken over the social media and is being featured in numerous reels and hilarious relatable content.

But little do many people know that this audio goes beyond the meme culture and has an insane 1200-year-old back story to it. Yes, the meme has a connection to the ancient history!

The Origin of the “Tab Tabi Tab” Audio

It is stated in the historical folklore that the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mansur of the 8th century had an exceptional memory and was able to memorise an entire poem just by hearing it once. Talk about a good memory!

The Caliph then competed with the poets of his time and called them in his court to recite their literary poems, listen to their recitals and tease them by saying that this isn’t their original piece and that he had heard it before. He would then repeat it word by word to prove his point and then make their art his own. Poor poets didn’t know they were getting played.

The Poem that Outwitted the Ancient Caliph

However, then a poet named Al-Asma’i recognised the Caliph’s trick. He then devised a brilliant trick and recited a very strange poem with a weird rhyme scheme. The poem had very complex verses and odd repetitions that were almost impossible to memorise.

The verses of this confusing poem were:

“Fi wasat bustan halī, bazhar wal-surur lī

Wa laudu dandan danālī, at-tabl tabtab tabālī

Tab tabi tab tab tabālī, tab tabi tab tab tabālī”

This trick left the mighty Caliph speechless; he couldn’t recall a word and poet Al-Asma’i won the round. This allowed the poet to protect his poem.

However, this is still at the end of the day just a folklore and has the purpose of keeping people intrigued with a good ending. Just like the sound, the story is for entertainment too and both are playing their role even after 1,200 years.

The Punjab Zakat Department started a project to help prisoners who finished their sentences but stay in jail because they can’t pay their fines. The government allocated Rs50 million for this initiative.

The department raised the monthly Zakat allowance for low-income families from Rs1,500 to Rs2,000. It also increased the marriage grant from Rs25,000 to Rs100,000.

Financial aid for over 300,000 Zakat beneficiary families will restart before Eidul Fitr. This support had stopped for 13 months. The government will release funds collected from banks during Ramadan to make this possible.

Women’s Day Goes Unnoticed In Faisalabad

Women’s Day Goes Unnoticed In Faisalabad

International Women’s Day went by quietly in Faisalabad, with no major government events, rallies, or awareness programmes.

The only official recognition came from Commissioner Mariam Khan, who shared a statement through the information department to show support for Pakistani women. She spent the day in an official meeting about the Ramadan pay order distribution package.

Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Nadeem Nasir also had limited involvement, focusing on chairing a District Design and Planning Committee meeting. The committee approved commercial projects like plazas and petrol pumps in the city.

Despite Faisalabad’s large female population, the lack of official events at women’s day stood out compared to previous years. However, the private sector stepped up. Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) and the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) held an event. The event focused on gender equality and the struggles of marginalized women.

Held under the UN theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment,” the event brought together women from different backgrounds to discuss discrimination and the need for collective action. The discussions highlighted gender equality as a key element in achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

HRFP President Naveed Walter stressed that gender equality is a fundamental human right. Yet, he noted that deep-rooted discrimination still limits opportunities for women. Wage gaps and workplace segregation remain major issues.

Walter also pointed out the unique challenges faced by women from religious minority communities, especially Christian and Hindu women. He explained that they face a higher risk of physical, sexual and psychological abuse, along with forced conversions and marriages.

While official recognition was lacking, the private event served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and the need for continued efforts to protect and uplift all women.

India vs New Zealand: Clash for Champions Trophy Glory Today

India vs New Zealand: Clash for Champions Trophy Glory Today

India will face New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final today in Dubai. This match could be the last match for veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in ODIs. Kohli, 36, and Rohit, 37, have been key players of India for over 15 years. After retiring from T20 internationals last year, this final might be their last ODI appearance, with the next 50-over World Cup set for 2027.

“I’m sure Rohit will lead India to another title,” said former bowler Praveen Kumar. “Virat and Rohit, give us one more ICC trophy before you retire.”

India entered the final as favorites, having won all four of their matches in the tournament. They defeated New Zealand by 44 runs in the group stage, though both teams had already secured semi-final spots. India played all their games in Dubai, avoiding travel to host nation Pakistan due to political tensions.

Kohli silenced critics with an unbeaten 100 against Pakistan and a match-winning 84 against Australia in the semi-final. While Rohit’s highest score has been 41, he provided quick starts, helping India build competitive totals in the played matches.

India aims to win the Champions Trophy for a record third time. Their powerful spin attack has been crucial, as they stuck with the same spin-heavy lineup against Australia, and it paid off again.

New Zealand, hoping for their second title after winning in 2000, reached the final by beating South Africa by 50 runs in Lahore.

Rachin Ravindra, who has Indian roots, has scored 226 runs in the three matches despite an earlier head injury. “We’re not sure how the Dubai pitch will play,” Ravindra said. “We focus on adapting to the conditions and will see what happens on the day.”

While India might have crowd support in the 25,000-seat stadium, New Zealand have recent history on their side. They stunned India with a 3-0 Test whitewash last year and lead their head-to-head record in global white-ball tournaments with nine wins, six losses, and one no-result.

The stage is set for a thrilling final, with cricket fans eager to see whether India lifts another trophy or the Black Caps pull off another upset.

Google Pakistan Empowers Women Through Digital Skills Initiatives

Pakistan is not just bridging the gender gap in technology—we are redefining the future of women in the digital economy.

Karachi, Pakistan – March 8, 2025: In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), Google Pakistan hosted “HERstory: Google IWD 2025”, a webinar highlighting the achievements of women in Pakistan’s digital economy. Graced by Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the event was attended by over 550 people who actively engaged in discussions on advancing women in technology.

Aligned with IWD’s 2025 theme, “Accelerate Action,” the discussion focused on empowering women in the digital economy through education, mentorship, and access to tech tools. The session also featured a panel of three inspiring women who have either benefitted from Google’s digital skilling initiatives and in turn actively driving programs to foster career advancement for Pakistani women, or using their platform to amplify female voices in the country.

“Pakistan is not just bridging the gender gap in technology—we are redefining the future of women in the digital economy. Our young women have consistently excelled on merit, ranking among the top achievers in education and emerging as leaders in tech. Through initiatives like the laptop scheme, we have empowered thousands of female students with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world. From AI to cybersecurity, women are not just participants but pioneers, breaking barriers and driving the next wave of innovation. Our commitment is clear: no woman should be left behind in the tech revolution. Together, with industry leaders like Google, we are building a future where women don’t just participate in technology—they lead it,” said Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication.

Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan, added, ”At Google, we believe in the power of technology to transform lives, and we’re committed to building a “Future Forward Pakistan’ where everyone can reach their full potential in the digital economy. With Pakistan being the third-largest freelance economy in the world and a rapidly growing digital talent pool, we are encouraged by the enthusiasm in digital skills, especially through the active participation of women across our programs. Through initiatives like Digital Safar, Google Career Certificates, and our Google Developer Groups, we will continue to equip all Pakistanis with the skills, opportunities, and networks to succeed in the global economy.”

How Google is committed to empowering Pakistan’s digital economy
According to the “Agay Barho: Empowering Pakistan’s Digital Economy” report, narrowing the digital skills gap can add PKR 2.8 trillion to the country’s annual GDP in 2030.

To drive this digital transformation, Google has launched initiatives focused on elevating Pakistani tech talent and developers with digital and AI skills, and getting the Pakistani workforce ready to seize new opportunities in the digital economy:

● Bridging the skills gap through Google Career Certificates (GCC) by offering industry-recognised training in fields such as cybersecurity, digital marketing, UI/UX, and data analytics. Since its launch in 2022, over 100,000 scholarships have been awarded with nearly 50% going to women. Last year, Google also introduced an AI Essentials skilling program to make the most out of AI within just a few hours, and launched Career Kamyabi, an initiative designed to close the employment gap for female GCC graduates,

● Elevating Pakistani tech talent and developers through Google Developer Groups. With 47 GDGs across Pakistan, Google is advancing the developer ecosystem through community-led learning, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing. There has been strong participation from female developers, with over 1,300 women enrolling in the #AISeekho program, gaining hands-on experience with AI, machine learning (ML), and cloud-based technologies.

● Supporting the growth of YouTube creators and the digital ecosystem. In Pakistan, there are now 600 creators with over 1 million subscribers and more than 8,500 creators with over 100,000 subscribers, including Pakistani female creators like Iqra Kanwal, and Kanwal Ahmed. Google remains committed to supporting creators on their economic opportunities: the number of YouTube channels making 10M PKR or more in their annual revenue is up over 25%, year over year.
Building on this momentum, Google will continue to support women in tech through mentorship programs, skills training, and industry networking events.
