The most awaited Netflix OTT, Nadaaniyan, premiered on “March 7, 2025” and let’s just say it didn’t go as planned. This “cringe fest” is directed by Shauna Gautam and produced by our very own Karan Johar under the banner of Dharma productions. People were anticipating this as a supposed “Gen-z Rom-Com” but instead it only disappointed the audience. And surprisingly, they are still in denial.

Another Nepotism Disaster

The movie marks the acting debut of Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan, alongside Khushi Kapoor, daughter of the legendary late Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor. Of course, this was just another nepo-baby film, after all, it’s a “KJO” film.

People already didn’t expect much from Khushi after her Archies and Loveyappa performance, but they were excited for Ibrahim Ali Khan as he was liked by many. The star kid had already made a name for himself due to the Indian paparazzi, with playful interactions that would go viral almost daily. People liked how he reminded them of young Saif and were rooting for him. However, when Nadaaniyan hit the screen, people were beyond disappointed.

It’s not like “Nepos” are always bad. We have Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Kareena Kapoor and many more being examples that some nepos know how to gracefully carry their parents’ legacy and live up to the opportunities they get. This is the main problem people have, Nadaaniyan’s star kids had such an opportunity, yet they didn’t try hard enough.

Typical “Student of The Year” Plot

The movie starts with Pia Jaisingh (Khushi Kapoor), who is a wealthy high-schooler and has severe daddy issues (are we even surprised?) Nobody takes her seriously in her old-money clan (turns out nobody did on screen too). Then we have Arjun Mehta (Ibrahim Ali Khan), the “IT nerdy, token boy.” He is a “brainy” student who got into Falcon High through a scholarship.

After a spat with her Insta-famous squad (Rhea and Sahira), Pia hires Arjun as her fake beau for ₹25k a week. Yes, love is just a paycheck. Overall, if you have seen the two “student of the year” movies, believe me you already know everything that is about to happen. And of course, the high school life shown is so different from reality. They have a history of giving us trust issues.

The movie is just forced flirty encounters, misused Gen-Z slangs and cinematography the same as your typical Instagram reels.

“AI-Generated” Dubbing

The main problem of this movie was not just nepotism but the “low quality” dubbing; it almost feels like it’s done by AI. It’s a sore to one’s ear. The visuals may have looked polished, but they certainly didn’t compensate for the underwhelming substance.

The camerawork? It will give you nausea. Just when the bad acting wasn’t enough. By now, you’re either numb or laughing at the glorious nonsense.

The Movie is Trending For “Hate-Watching”

One might assume that the movie is doing well due to it trending. Well, this is because, firstly, people were looking forward to it due to their crush on Ibrahim Ali Khan. Secondly, everyone disliked it so much that it got viral for all the bad reasons and now people are watching it just out of sheer curiosity or “hate-watching.’

The Veteran Side Cast: A Ray of Hope

Not everything is bad about the movie. The side cast of the movie has one of the most polished names of Bollywood: Suniel Shetty, Dia Mirza, Jugal Hansraj (yes our “Mohabbatein” chocolate boy) and Mahima Chaudhry. They gave the audience the perfect dose of nostalgia. A much needed one!

Honestly, they are the ones who carried the whole acting department on their back. The debutants only enjoyed the PR created hype and didn’t bring much to the table themselves.

Final Verdict: Ibrahim Ali Khan Better as a Concept

“Ibrahim Ali Khan was just better as a concept… in those pap vids,” said an X user. Maybe, people just expected too much from a newbie and the newbie definitely was unaware of that. It’s too harsh to already close the door of expectations for them. Khushi got 3 chances already, Ibrahim deserves some too and then we will consider his credibility as an actor. Hopefully, until then, they will make use of criticism and work on their acting skills.

As for Nadaaniyan, we would suggest to instead go re-watch Mean Girls or even Student of the Year to save your mood. It’s just 2 hours of disappointment.

As per US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the app provides illegal immigrants an opportunity to self-deport without closing the door on legal reentry in the future. She cautioned that not using the app could lead to being discovered, deported and prohibited from returning.

Elon Musk Claims X Was Hit by Major Cyberattack

Elon Musk said on X that the platform was hit by a major cyberattack and continues to face similar threats. Screenshots of his post reportedly read, “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and (or) a country is involved.”

According to Reuters, NY Post and the BBC, Musk said he was working to trace the source of the attack. He did not clarify what he meant by “a lot of resources” or provide evidence for his claim. In an interview with Fox Business, Musk alleged that computers involved in the attack had digital addresses in the Ukraine area. He added that X was still investigating the incident.

Reports of X’s outage began at 6 PM on Monday, peaking around 10 PM and 12 AM (SGT). According to Downdetector.com, 58% of complaints were about the app, while 31% were about the website. Users across Asia, Europe and North America faced issues. In the US alone, tens of thousands of users reported problems accessing the platform.

Several cybersecurity experts told foreign media that it is difficult to assess the attack without access to X’s internal data. Musk has frequently criticised Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky, with several recent posts targeting Zelensky. Last year, Musk claimed X was under massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which were never verified.

New Zealand Announces Squad for Pakistan T20I Series

New Zealand Cricket has announced a 15-member squad for the five-match T20I series against Pakistan, starting on Sunday in Christchurch. Carney’s Background

This next leader is kind of a newcomer in politics. For an introduction, he was born in Fort Smith, the Northwest Territories, and raised in Edmonton, Alberta.

As for his education, he has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and then later on pursued a master’s degree and doctorate in economics from Oxford University.

In his professional career, he spent 13 years working for Goldman Sachs, traveling between the firm’s offices in London, Tokyo, New York and Toronto. Then, by 2008, he was serving as governor of Canada’s central bank and stepped into the job during the Great Recession.

Carney did so well that he was later on selected by the Bank of England to be its governor — the first non-British person to hold the position. It is this banking experience that has made Carney an ideal candidate against the economic war with the USA’s imposed tariffs.

Climate Change Advocate

Carney not only has an economic and finance-based background but also has been an advocate for prominent global issues like climate change. This started after Carney became the UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance in 2019.

Carney has proposed shifting the financial burden of the carbon tax from consumers to big corporations and has said that under his leadership, the tax Canadian consumers and small businesses pay on fuel would be replaced with incentives to reduce carbon emissions.

Lack of Political Background

Despite his economic expertise, he has been criticised for his lack of experience in electoral politics. However, the liberals didn’t select him for no reason. He has been in the background of parliament procedures. He also advised Trudeau on Canada’s economic recovery from Covid-19.

However, the banker-turned-politician did not make his official entrance until Trudeau announced his resignation in January. It is debatable whether or not this will be enough as all of his competitors are sitting politicians. Carney’s situation is very unusual, if he becomes president, he will do it without holding a seat in Parliament.

Promise Against the Trump Tariffs

The main reason Carney is being considered good enough is because, currently, Canada is less concerned about domestic issues and is more focused on economic certainty and the Canada-US relationship. Some experts believe Carney’s background could make him uniquely suited. “He’s very competent in economics, so with these tariffs, this economic war, a lot of people are supporting him,” said Charles-Etienne Beaudy, political science professor at the University of Ottawa and author of ‘Radio Trump: How he won the first time.’

Carney has been an outspoken proponent of dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs post the tariff announcement. His first remarks after the vote, were regarding the Trump administration’s plans. “Trump is attacking Canadian families, workers and businesses, and we cannot let him succeed and we won’t,” he said.

How Different is He from Trudeau?

His stances seem to be very similar to that of Trudeau, and given that he was also involved in handling decision making while the former president was in charge, he must have learned a thing or two.

36 Killed, 1,402 Mobile Phones Snatched in Karachi in February

The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) reported that 36 people lost their lives in Karachi due to various incidents in February. During the same period, 1,402 mobile phones were snatched. The report also highlighted that 3,773 motorcycles and 195 cars were taken, including 36 snatched and 159 stolen four-wheelers. Additionally, 549 motorcycles were snatched, while 3,224 were stolen.

The city saw four cases of extortion and one kidnapping for ransom last month. However, no bank robberies or dacoities were recorded. Karachi experienced 1,503 crime incidents in 2024, affecting civilians, including women, children, and law enforcement personnel. Despite police efforts, robbers continued their activities, causing 106 fatalities, including military and police officials, engineers and security guards. Nearly 300 others were injured.

Police claim a 21% reduction in crime compared to the previous year, stating that crime-solving rates have reached international standards. However, Karachi continues to face a major street crime problem, with frequent cases of theft, robberies and violence.

Although law enforcement has taken strict measures, including the “half-fry” strategy, the city remains a hotspot for criminal activity. Authorities are working to address these issues, but citizens remain concerned about their safety.

If you’re a Harry Potter buff, I’m sure you know about the new series reboot set to come out in early 2027. This long-awaited series on HBO keeps heating up as two more legendary roles are said to be close to being cast.

After the confirmation of John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore, reports state that Janet McTeer and Paapa Essiedu are in talks to play Professor Minerva McGonagall and Professor Severus Snape, respectively.

McTeer as Professor McGonagall

McTeer, who has made memorable appearances in Tumbleweeds and Albert Nobbs, has decades of acting experience to her credit. Her repertoire includes both film and television, including hit shows such as Ozark and Jessica Jones. McTeer’s poised demeanor is well-suited for the wise and compassionate role of Professor McGonagall, previously portrayed by Maggie Smith.

Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape

On the contrary, Paapa Essiedu is an up-and-coming star whose role in I May Destroy You led to his Primetime Emmy nomination. His professional career in acting started with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Ever since, audeinces have noticed him for his work on Gangs of London and Black Mirror. HBO has refused to comment on the rumoured castings. “As we navigate pre-production, we will only announce details as we close deals.” The reboot series, which the makers unveiled in April 2023, will reimagine all seven Harry Potter books within ten years. This means one book will be covered in one season.

J.K. Rowling is the executive producer with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. Francesca Gardiner will write the first season based on The Philosopher’s Stone. With HBO reportedly looking for a late 2026 or early 2027 premiere, fans are excited to see how this new cast will bring new life to familiar characters.
