How to Check Filer Status on FBR

how-to-check-your-filer-status-on-fbr

Listen! Everything these days has gotten digitalised and you know what this means? Stricter check and balance and surveillance by the government. Gone are the days when people used to do tax evasion due to outdated systems.

Today, it’s the bare minimum to stay informed about your filer status with the FBR (Federal Board of Revenue). But how to check filer status, though?

How to Check Filer Status with Different Methods

Well, the FBR offers several convenient methods to check if you’re a registered filer with no jargon or confusion. Let’s walk you through each one of them.

Method # 01: Online Verification via FBR Website

This is probably the most direct and reliable way on how to check filer status online.

Here is how you can do it:

  1. Visit the New FBR IRIS website: Go to the new FBR IRIS website with this link: https://iris.fbr.gov.pk/#verifications. Even from the official website of FBR, you will be directed to this.
  2. Access the Online Verification Service: Scroll until you find the option “Online Verification Services“.
  3. Enter your information: Here, you will be required to fill in the following information:
    • Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number (for individuals and locals), then enter the current date
    • National Tax Number (NTN) (for businesses or Associations of Persons (AOP))
    • Passport number (for non-residents)
  4. Select the appropriate parameter type: Choose the correct option for Parameter Type (NTN, CNIC, or Passport No.) from the dropdown menu. After this, enter the correct Captcha and click verify.
  5. Review the results: The system will display your filer status, showing whether you are an active taxpayer or not.

Here is what needs to be done:

  1. Open your messaging app.
  2. Type: ATL <space> your 13 digit CNIC number (no dashes).
  3. Send it to 9966.
  4. You’ll get a reply with your current filer status.

See! It’s so fast and simple, and this one will work on any phone!

Method # 03: FBR Tax Asaan Mobile App

The Tax Asaan App is FBR’s official mobile app, designed for everything tax-related (including checking your filer status).

How to check via the app:

  1. Download the Tax Asaan App (from the google play store and app store)

  2. Open the app and tap on “Active Taxpayer List.”

  3. Enter your CNIC, NTN, or Passport number to check your filer status.

Method # 04: Downloadable Excel List

FBR also releases a downloadable Excel sheet (active taxpayer list) of all active taxpayers on their website. This list is updated every Monday and published annually on March 1st for the previous tax year.

How to use it:

  1. Visit FBR’s ATL section.
  2. Select on the “check active taxpayer status” option from the content section.
  3. From there, you will need to scroll until you reach the heading: “check active taxpayer status” by downloading ATL.
  4. This will have the downloadable excel file
  5. Download the file and then use the search function (Ctrl+F) to find your CNIC.

Note: This method will not be the fastest as the website is a little confusing in the start but it’s still an option if you need offline access.

Why is Filer Status Important?

I know that while people have normalised avoiding tax filing, it’s pretty difficult to stay true to your duty and stay informed. But it is all worth it! Here is why:

1. Lower Tax Rates For You

If you’re a filer, you’ll enjoy significantly lower tax rates on and you know what this means? More money share left for yourself. These include:

  • Bank transactions
  • Property purchases
  • Vehicle registration
  • Dividend income
  • Cash withdrawals

2. Better Access to Financial Services

Filers can avail of various government incentives and schemes designed to benefit compliant taxpayers.

Planning to:

  • Apply for a loan or credit card?

  • Register a business?

  • Open a corporate bank account?

Most banks and financial institutions also prefer (or even require) you to be an active taxpayer.

3. Legal Compliance and Peace of Mind

Pakistan’s tax system is becoming increasingly digitised and integrated. That means the FBR is watching more closely than ever, and being a non-filer might raise a few eyebrows.

Advantages of being a filer:

  • You stay on the right side of the law, and there are fewer legal hurdles.

  • You avoid potential penalties or audits.

4. Participation in the Documented Economy

Being a filer also means you’re contributing to the country’s economic development. Every tax return filed helps build a better infrastructure, healthcare, education and public services.

Plus, it allows you to be eligible for government tenders, business licenses and other perks that only compliant citizens can enjoy.

Not on Active Taxpayer List (ATL)? What to Do

Well, there are two conditions for this situation. First one can be that you did file your taxes and there is just a technical error or the information is yet to be updated (I have elaborated on this below) so it’s not a big deal.

The other one can be that you didn’t file your taxes to start with and have a non-filer status.

For this, you will need to become a filer as urgently as you can. Otherwise, embrace yourself for the following issues:

  • Higher tax rates.
  • Restricted investment opportunities.
  • Trouble registering vehicles or property.

Common Issues and their Solutions

Many people often get confused when they face certain problems. Here are the most common issues along with their solutions to make the process easier.

Incorrect CNIC Entry

Many people always get stuck in a stand still due to incorrect CNIC entry and they often don’t understand what they did wrong. CNIC is the most important in any tax related or legal compliance procedure so even the slightest of mistake will give you and error.

Solution

Enter your CNIC number correctly without any dashes, and before moving forward always re-check it thrice. This way you won’t be frustrated in the end.

Website Downtime

The FBR website might experience downtime during peak hours. This is very common and no you don’t need to get annoyed at it as any website can lag of get down when there is too much traffic on it.

Solution

Always try checking your status during off-peak hours; the time periods where you might think people aren’t necessarily using the website. Doesn’t work? Well just use the SMS option instead.

Outdated Information

Recently updated your tax return but it still shows outdated information or doesn’t show your CNIC on the Active Taxpayer List? Well it’s nothing to be panick about as things require some time to get updated, especially formal processing as everything needs to be accurate in it.

Solution

If you just filed your return, wait for 1-2 weeks for your name to appear in the ATL.

Final Verdict

Checking your filer status isn’t rocket science anymore. It just requires some time and diligence, that’s it. Hopefully, all the methods provided above helped you understand how to check filer status and now you will stay updated. For more information and updates, always refer to the official FBR website.

Heinrich Klaasen Bids Farewell to International Cricket

heinrich-klaasen-bids-farewell-to-international-cricket

Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa’s explosive middle-order batter and dependable wicketkeeper, has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.

Yep, it’s official. No farewell match. No grand exit. Just a heartfelt Instagram post from a man who’s always let his bat do most of the talking.

“A Sad Day” — But One of Peace

In his emotional message, the 33-year-old called it a “sad day” but shared that he made the decision with a sense of peace.

“It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future,” Klaasen wrote. “It was truly a very difficult decision, but also one that I have absolute peace with.”

And you can feel that this wasn’t a decision made lightly. After all, Klaasen wasn’t just another name on the team sheet. He was someone who fought hard for his place, earned every cap, and made every opportunity count.

The Road Less Travelled — And Fully Owned

Klaasen’s journey wasn’t your typical Proteas fairytale. He debuted in 2018, relatively late at 26, during a tough ODI series against India. From there, he clawed his way into all three formats — something many can only dream of.

And even though his Test career was brief (just four matches), his impact in ODIs and T20Is was hard to miss.

A post shared by Heinrich Klaasen (@heinie45)

The ODI Maestro South Africa Needed

Let’s talk numbers — because Heinrich Klaasen delivered them with both flair and ferocity.

In 60 ODIs, he smashed 2,141 runs at an average of 43.69 and a strike rate of 117.05. That’s elite-level stuff. Add to that four centuries and 11 fifties, and you get a player who consistently turned games on their head.

But no knock captured his magic better than the 174 off 83 balls against Australia at Centurion in 2023.

Let that sink in.
174 runs.
Just 83 balls.
The highest score ever at No. 5 in ODI history.

It was pure carnage, and anyone who witnessed it will tell you: that was Klaasen at his peak — destructive, calm, and completely in the zone.

The T20Is Accelerator

Klaasen might not have been the most consistent in T20Is, but when he got going, bowlers had no place to hide.

In 58 T20 internationals, he racked up 1,000 runs at a strike rate of 141.84, often playing the enforcer role in the middle overs. His average of 23.25 doesn’t tell the whole story — because Klaasen’s role was never about building innings. It was about breaking games open.

A Career Built on Grit and Gratitude

In his retirement post, Heinrich Klaasen didn’t shy away from thanking those who believed in him, especially coaches who saw potential when others didn’t.

“My road to wearing the Proteas shirt was different than most… there were certain coaches in my career that kept believing in me – to them I will always be grateful.”

And perhaps what stood out the most was his sincerity. He called playing for the Proteas “the biggest privilege” and something he “dreamed about as a young boy.”

There’s something beautifully old-school about that kind of love for the badge.

Heinrich Klaasen may not have had the star power of an AB de Villiers or the global following of a Quinton de Kock, but he had something just as valuable — authenticity.

He played with heart. He stepped up when it mattered. And he gave fans countless reasons to cheer. So, here’s to Klaasen — the man who carved his own path, hit like a beast, and walked away with grace.

Jake Paul Vows to Humiliate Cesar Chavez Jr. in the Biggest Fight of His Life

Source: Sporty

Jake Paul is getting ready for what he terms the “biggest fight” of his professional career—a big-dollar bout against former WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr.

To be held on June 28 in Southern California, the fight guarantees fireworks, and Paul is already bragging.

“Someone’s Getting Embarrassed”

In an interview earlier on TMZ Sports, the 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer promised to “humiliate” Chávez Jr., saying this fight will be his coming-out party.

“It’s going to be a tough fight. Someone’s going to get embarrassed, and it’s not going to be me,” Paul told us. While conceding that Chávez Jr. has experience, Paul underscored that he feels he’s better prepared, more focused, and more lethal than ever.

Jake Paul Vows to Humiliate Cesar Chavez

Chávez Jr., 39, is no stranger to the ring. The son of Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez Sr., he brings with him a record of 64 professional fights. While he’s had a career filled with ups and downs, including criticism about his work ethic, Paul is not underestimating himself.

“I’ve heard he’s taking this fight more seriously than any in his career,” he noted.

More Than Just One Fight

The June 28 show, promoted by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), will also host the highly anticipated comeback of former UFC queen Holly Holm to the boxing ring.

Holm, most famous for her memorable knockout victory against Ronda Rousey in 2015, will battle Yolanda Vega in a 10-round pro fight—her first since 2013.

Holm’s comeback is just one element of Paul’s wider effort to develop women’s boxing via MVP, which has already promoted top-level events with Amanda Serrano. When asked if he would sign other top female fighters, like Claressa Shields, Paul teased that he’s willing—despite earlier jabs from Shields herself.

Eyes on the Title

For Paul, bragging rights are not everything. He feels beating an experienced fighter like Chávez Jr. will ultimately prove to the boxing purists and critics alike that he deserves their respect.

“This is my hardest opponent to date,” he said. “But it’s also my opportunity to show that I’m title-worthy.”

With both men psyched and much buzz around the undercard, June 28 is on track to be a career-defining night for Jake Paul—and maybe a turning point for his polarising yet developing boxing career.

Bilawal-Led Delegation Meets UNSC Leaders Today

bilawal-led-delegation-meets-unsc-leaders-today

A delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is starting its official meetings at the United Nations today (June 2).

The group is set to meet ambassadors from all 14 member states of the UN Security Council, including the five permanent members. Bilawal and Senator Sherry Rehman have already reached New York, with others expected to join on later flights.

The delegation also includes Hina Rabbani Khar, Dr Musadik Malik, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Bushra Anjum Butt, Tehmina Janjua and Jalil Abbas Jilani.

Another team, led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, will visit Moscow from June 2, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The main aim of these delegations is to present Pakistan’s position on the recent military confrontation with India and counter New Delhi’s version of events.

The group will also meet the UN Secretary-General, the President of the UN General Assembly and Chinese and Russian ambassadors.

Other planned meetings include those with ambassadors from OIC and Non-Aligned Movement countries.

Focus on Narrative and Global Outreach

The delegation will speak at the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) and also meet Pakistani journalists.

However, there is no information yet on any meetings with American media, human rights groups or media accuracy organisations regarding disinformation from Indian media.

Some observers have raised concerns that most meetings are with countries already sympathetic to Pakistan’s stance. Despite President Trump’s remarks, it’s still unclear if anyone from his administration will meet the delegation.

There are reports of a think tank meeting on June 5.

Meanwhile, Indian leader Shashi Tharoor is set to visit Washington after a Latin America tour, and India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is already in Washington.

The recent confrontation began after a terror attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir that killed 26 tourists.

India blamed Pakistan without evidence. Pakistan responded with “Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos”, downing six IAF jets and ending the conflict with a US-brokered ceasefire on May 10.

ISPR confirmed 53 Pakistani deaths, including 13 military personnel and 40 civilians.

‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell Announces Retirement From ODI cricket

glenn-maxwell-announces-retirement-from-odi-cricket

In a move that tugs at both nostalgia and logic, Glenn Maxwell has officially announced his retirement from one-day international (ODI) cricket. The Australian match-winner, entertainer, and often-underestimated all-rounder says it’s time to move on — but on his own terms.

From Wild Card to World Cup Hero

Maxwell’s ODI journey was anything but linear. He burst onto the scene back in 2012 — selected, in his own words, “ahead of my time and out of the blue.”

Few could have predicted back then that this energetic Victorian would go on to carve out one of the most unique and explosive ODI careers in Australian cricket history.

Over 149 ODIs, Maxwell delivered chaos and calm in equal measure. He scored 3,907 runs at a strike rate of 126, second only to West Indies’ Andre Russell, and claimed 77 wickets with his often-overlooked off-spin.

But if there’s one match that will forever define his legacy, it’s the 2023 World Cup clash against Afghanistan in Mumbai.

The Cramp-Filled Miracle.

Picture this: Australia 91 for 7 chasing 293—the World Cup campaign hanging by a thread. Glenn Maxwell walks in, battles scorching heat, full-body cramps, and a relentless Afghan bowling attack. What followed was the stuff of legends.

A 201-run stand with Pat Cummins, who contributed a modest 12. A staggering 201 not out off 128 balls. The first double hundred by an Australian in ODIs. And arguably, the greatest ODI innings ever played.

That knock didn’t just save a match — it reignited Australia’s World Cup run, which eventually culminated in a stunning title win over India in Ahmedabad.

Why Now?

Speaking on The Final Word Podcast, Maxwell gave a candid insight into why he’s stepping away now, and not two years later at the 2027 World Cup.

“I felt like I was letting the team down a little bit with how the body was reacting to the conditions,” he admitted, referencing his struggles during the Champions Trophy and the lingering effects of a serious leg injury.

“I didn’t want to just hold on for a couple of series and almost play for selfish reasons.”

Instead of clinging on, Maxwell is choosing to make space for the next generation, allowing selectors the runway to groom a successor well in time for the next ODI World Cup.

That kind of self-awareness is rare in modern sport. And refreshing.

Glenn Maxwell Isn’t Done Yet

While the 50-over chapter is closed, the story is far from over. Maxwell will now focus on Australia’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, along with his Big Bash League duties and other global T20 gigs.

That means fans still get to see the Big Show in full flight — just in shorter bursts. And if history tells us anything, it’s that Glenn Maxwell doesn’t need much time to change a game.

As Maxwell looked back on his ODI journey, his words were tinged with both gratitude and humility.

“I was just proud to be playing a couple of games for Australia. I thought I was just going to have that.”

Salman Ali Agha Comments On Rumours of Unfollowing Babar Azam

truth-behind-social-media-attack-on-salman-ali-agha-salman-ali-agha-to-lead-pakistan-t20i-squad-against-new-zealand-babar-azam

Social media has a knack for blowing things out of proportion — and this week, it nearly turned a friendship into a feud. After a few eagle-eyed fans noticed that Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha doesn’t follow Babar Azam on Instagram, rumours started flying.

Some speculated that the new skipper had unfollowed his childhood friend after taking over the reins and that Babar’s absence from the T20I squad was somehow personal.

But Salman didn’t let the buzz go unchecked for long.

Salman Ali Agha Sets the Record Straight

Speaking to reporters after Pakistan’s 3-0 T20I whitewash of Bangladesh, Salman Ali Agha addressed the rumour head-on — and with a smile.

“Babar and I go way back — we’ve been friends since 2008, from our school days,” Salman clarified during the post-match press conference in Lahore.

“There was no social media back then, and to be honest, I never followed him online. So the talk about unfollowing doesn’t even make sense.”

That’s as straightforward as it gets. No drama, no hidden agendas — just another case of social media spinning stories out of thin air.

On the Field: Pakistan’s Fresh Energy Pays Off

While the internet was busy speculating about off-field relationships, Salman’s young team was doing all the talking on the pitch.

Pakistan dominated the series against Bangladesh, winning 3-0 with a bold, aggressive brand of cricket that fans haven’t seen in a while. And the new skipper couldn’t be prouder.

“I’m really pleased with how the youngsters have stepped up. Our goal is simple — we want to play cricket that entertains the fans and puts the opposition under pressure,” he said.

Eyes on the Road Ahead

The captain was quick to shift focus toward upcoming challenges. Pakistan now heads to Bangladesh again, followed by a tour of the West Indies. With spin-friendly pitches expected in both regions, Salman Ali Agha hinted at some tactical flexibility.

“We’ll be heading to Bangladesh next, then to the West Indies. The pitches there could demand more spin options,” he noted.

And while the Asia Cup is still up in the air, Dubai seems like a likely host — a venue Salman believes suits Pakistan well.

Final Word: No Drama, Just Cricket

So, to everyone refreshing Instagram feeds and chasing rumours — Salman Ali Agha has spoken. There’s no rift with Babar Azam. Just two longtime friends going through different phases in their careers.

And more importantly, under Salman’s leadership, Pakistan’s T20I team is starting to look exciting again. Young guns, bold cricket, and a clear message: we’re here to entertain and win.

PM Shehbaz, Army Chief to Crush Indian-Backed Terror in Balochistan

pm-shehbaz-army-chief-to-crush-indian-backed-terror-in-balochistan

At Zehri Auditorium in Quetta, PM Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir addressed a grand jirga of tribal elders. They vowed to eliminate terrorism and dismantle Indian-sponsored proxy networks in Balochistan.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the jirga aimed to deepen engagement with tribal leadership while addressing current security challenges. Attention centred on Indian-funded groups that attempt to disrupt peace and halt progress in the region.

Blaming India directly, PM Shehbaz said terrorist organisations were exploiting local issues to gain public support. He named one such group as “Fitna Al-Hindustan.”

“The enemies of peace will find no room to operate inside Pakistan,” he declared. With total public backing, the government, armed forces, law enforcement, and administration would finish this fight and defeat terrorism completely.

He also commended tribal elders for supporting national unity. Maintaining close ties with communities, he noted, was key to isolating terrorist elements and denying them influence.

“We have to make sure every citizen benefits from the trickle-down impact of government development programs,” he said.

“Historically, the people of Balochistan have helped to preserve Pakistan’s integrity; we expect their ongoing alertness against foreign-backed subversion.”

Army’s Response to Proxy Warfare

Field Marshal Munir, while addressing the jirga, warned of India’s direct involvement in a proxy war. “This Indian-sponsored proxy war is no more covert; it is an open and wicked act of terrorism targeting our people, our development, and our peace,” he said.

According to him, the army holds solid proof of Indian support for terrorist groups in Balochistan.

He assured, “The Pakistan Army, with the unflagging support of the country and the bold Baloch people, will face and destroy every opponent, foreign or domestic, that dares to challenge our sovereignty.”

Both leaders saluted the courage of law enforcement and security personnel. PM Shehbaz promised full state support for the families of martyrs. He vowed that terrorists, along with their facilitators, would face justice.

The jirga concluded with tribal elders pledging their full support to the government and military for peace and development.

Earlier that day, PM Shehbaz visited the Command and Staff College Quetta. He interacted with faculty and student officers and highlighted the need for defence excellence.

He stressed strategic readiness, especially in areas like Balochistan, where Indian proxies continue efforts to destabilize the country.

Nawaz Sharif Arrives in London for Medical Check-Up

Nawaz Sharif Arrives in London for Medical Check-Up

Former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif reached London after flying in from Minsk, Belarus. He landed at Luton Airport on a chartered flight. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Faisal, received him upon arrival.

After landing, Nawaz Sharif travelled to the Avenfield Apartments with his son Hassan Nawaz. According to party sources, he plans to undergo medical checkups and celebrate Eid in the UK. Additionally, he will attend political meetings during this two-week visit.

While speaking to the media in London, he responded to reports about his health. “My health is absolutely good; false news has been spread,” Nawaz said. He made it clear that the rumours had no truth.

He also took the opportunity to praise Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is doing a great job and has gotten the wobbling economy back on its feet,” he said.

Nawaz emphasised that Pakistan is moving in the right direction under Shehbaz’s leadership.

Moreover, he encouraged citizens to support national progress. He added that every decision by the government is being made “on merit,” which ensures transparency and fairness.

He further praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her performance. “Maryam is not doing anything in Punjab that goes against merit,” he noted. Nawaz stated that she has introduced fresh development benchmarks in the province.

Turning to Lahore’s development, he said several projects are underway to restore its original charm. “We will restore Lahore to its natural condition,” he promised. These efforts reflect the party’s focus on urban renewal.

When asked about Pakistan International Airlines, Nawaz called for strict action. He demanded accountability for those responsible for the national airline’s decline. During his visit, he will meet his personal doctor, Dr. Adnan, for regular tests.

Imran Khan’s Release Before Eid al-Adha Ruled Out

imran-khans-release-before-eid-ul-adha-ruled-out-no-deal-offered

NAB and government sources have denied rumours about releasing PTI founding chairman Imran Khan before Eid al-Adha. The News reported on Sunday that PTI officials also don’t expect his release.

Media and political circles have been buzzing with talk of a possible deal or court decision that could free Imran Khan early. But authorities have shut down those claims.

A NAB source confirmed, “No notice has been sent to NAB in any issue which might affect his bail or release before Eid.” He also said the court must hear the prosecution before granting relief, and that hasn’t happened yet.

Government officials repeated the denial. One senior official clearly said, “On the table, nothing is known, negotiated, or offered.”

Outside the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, Khan’s lawyer Naeem Haider Panjotha told reporters the release rumours are baseless. He said, “There is no offer, either in deals or in leniency. Rumours have no foundation.”

Despite clear statements, some PTI leaders and media analysts still believe Khan could get bail before Eid. They are hoping the Islamabad High Court hearing on June 5 will help.

Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have asked the court to suspend their sentence in the Toshakhana case.

However, NAB sources said the court hasn’t issued a notice yet. Legal experts also pointed out that these cases usually take time and go through multiple hearings.

The larger legal situation also blocks any quick relief for Khan. The Islamabad High Court recently stated it won’t likely hear Khan’s appeal in 2025. He’s challenging a 14-year sentence in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case.

The IHC registrar’s office reported that Khan’s January 2025 appeal is still in the motion stage. The court is following a policy that prioritises older appeals.

Right now, the IHC is handling 279 convict appeals. These include 63 death penalty cases and 73 life sentences. Because of this backlog and NJPMC’s directive to handle older cases first, the court won’t hear Khan’s appeal this year.

Modi Govt. Misled Public on Air Clash, Says Congress

modi-govt-misled-public-on-air-clash-says-congress

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration with having “misled the country” about the loss of Indian planes during the recent war with Pakistan.

This statement came after India’s top general admitted Pakistan shot down Indian fighter jets, but did not give exact numbers.

Kharge tweeted on X, “The Modi government has misled the country. The fog of battle is clearing now.”

He said India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, admitted this during an interview in Singapore. Kharge added that these events raise serious questions that need answers.

In the wake of the remarks made by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in Singapore in an interview, there are some very important questions which need to be asked.

These can only be asked if a Special Session of the Parliament is immediately convened.

He demanded that Parliament hold a Special Session immediately. Furthermore, he urged “a thorough examination of defence readiness by an autonomous expert committee,” similar to the Kargil review committee.

Uttam Reddy, Telangana’s Minister and Congress leader, also called for transparency. According to Deccan Herald, Reddy said, “The government must stop denying that the fighter planes were downed. The CDS himself noted that.”

Reddy, a former air force pilot, noted Air Marshal Bharti had also hinted at this in a briefing with the DGMO.

On May 6-7, the Pakistan Air Force shot down Indian jets. This happened after India launched missile strikes at six Pakistani sites: Subhan Mosque in Bahawalpur’s Ahmedpur East, Bilal Mosque in Muzaffarabad, Abbas Mosque in Kotli, Umalkura Mosque in Muridke, the village of Kotki Lohara in Sialkot district, and Shakargarh.

Within 40 minutes, Pakistan downed six Indian jets—three Rafale fighters, one Su-30MKI, one Mirage 2000, and one MiG-29. Importantly, none of Pakistan’s planes crossed the border or engaged in direct combat.

Then, on May 8, India sent drones that Pakistan intercepted. On May 9-10, both countries struck each other’s airbases. However, after the U.S. stepped in and brokered a ceasefire on May 10, the fighting stopped.

This ceasefire came after a week of rising tension. India had continued strikes even though Pakistan requested a neutral probe into the Pahalgam attack.

Explosion Hits Rescue 1122 Building in Bannu

explosion-hits-rescue-1122-building-in-bannu

An explosion hit a Rescue 1122 building under construction in the Nekam Kaki area of Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Local police said terrorists planted an explosion inside the structure, causing significant damage. However, no casualties have been reported so far. Authorities are investigating to uncover details and the motive behind the attack.

In a separate string of attacks over 24 hours in Bannu, armed assailants killed at least seven people, including police officers. According to the police spokesperson, five others, including civilians and policemen, sustained injuries in the firing incidents.

Back in April, terrorists attacked the Saddar Police Station in Bannu. The assault injured Station House Officer (SHO) Waseem Sajjad and Constable Hayatullah. Officials shifted both to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medical treatment.

In response, police forces returned fire and killed one attacker, though another managed to escape. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sajjad Khan and District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kulachi visited the hospital to support the injured officers.

On April 22, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police foiled a major terrorist attack on the Dharey Pul police post in Bannu. The Central Police Office (CPO) said police on duty acted swiftly and stopped the attempt.

The CPO reported that a group of 18 to 19 terrorists tried a coordinated attack. Some came on eight motorcycles, while others crawled toward the post. They opened fire from different directions.

The attackers, linked to Fitna al-Khawarijs, aimed to destroy an IT camera during the strike. However, a strong police response forced them to retreat without completing their objective.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Cannot be Called a ‘Hero’: Rana Sanaullah

dr-abdul-qadeer-khan-cannot-be-called-a-hero-rana-sanaullah

PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan played an important part in developing Pakistan’s atomic bomb, but said he should not be called a “hero.”

In a recent interview, Sanaullah stated, “The credit for initiating Pakistan’s nuclear programme goes to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. However, starting a programme and developing it are not as significant as reaching the moment when a state declares itself a nuclear power through a successful test.”

He explained that the most important moment for Pakistan’s nuclear power came on May 28, 1998, when nuclear tests were carried out under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Had that moment not come then, it might still have been delayed to this day,” he stated.

In response to some claims that Nawaz Sharif did not want to conduct the nuclear tests, he denied them. “How could the Prime Minister of the country oppose it? These claims are made out of jealousy,” he said.

Sanaullah said Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan received the credit he deserved. He added, “He will always be remembered for his role. However, he cannot be given the title of a leader or called a hero. If anyone deserves to be called the hero of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, it is Nawaz Sharif.”

India Confirms Loss of Fighter Jets in May 2025 Conflict with Pakistan

india-confirms-loss-of-fighter-jets-in-recent-confict-with-pakistan

In a significant development, India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has acknowledged that Pakistan downed Indian fighter jets during the recent conflict.

Speaking to Bloomberg TV at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, General Chauhan admitted, “We made mistakes during the air battle, which we have since realised and corrected.”

He emphasised the importance of understanding the reasons behind the losses rather than focusing on the number of jets downed, stating, “What is important is that, not the jet being down, but why they were being down.”

General Chauhan dismissed Pakistan’s claim of downing six Indian jets, including three Rafales, as “absolutely incorrect.” However, he did not provide an alternative figure.

He highlighted that after initial setbacks, India revised its tactics and conducted precision strikes deep into Pakistan between May 7 and May 10, successfully penetrating air defenses and hitting key air bases.

He asserted that these operations were carried out without any consideration of nuclear escalation, stating, “There’s a lot of space before that nuclear threshold is crossed.”

Adding to the discourse, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy admitted in a podcast interview that Pakistan shot down five Indian Air Force jets during the conflict.

He attributed the losses to the superior performance of Chinese-made fighter jets used by Pakistan, stating, “Pakistan shot down five of our aircraft using Chinese fighter jets.”

Swamy criticised the performance of the French-made Rafale jets and alleged corruption in their procurement, asserting that an investigation is unlikely under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

French Military Addressed the Incident

During a routine press briefing in Paris, a French military spokesman also addressed the incident. He said that the available details remain unclear and that many aspects still require confirmation.

He explained that France is closely monitoring Rafale’s performance in this conflict and remains in direct contact with its partner India to gather accurate information.

Reports indicate that hundreds of aircraft engaged in the battle, and France aims to extract as many lessons as possible from this experience.

A terrorist attack triggered the conflict known as Operation Sindoor, was triggered by a terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 people.

India attributed the attack to Pakistan-backed terrorists and launched airstrikes on May 7 targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure across the border. Pakistan claimed to have downed six Indian jets in response.

Both nations declared a ceasefire on May 10 after intense fighting involving fighter jets, missiles, drones, and artillery.

Yale Hosts First Pakistan Conference; Ali Jehangir Siddiqui Highlights Diaspora’s Role in U.S. Policy

The event featured addresses by prominent speakers, including former Pakistan Ambassador Ali Jehangir Siddiqui.

The inaugural Ivy Future of Pakistan Conference at Yale University brought together students from Ivy League institutions, including Harvard, Cornell, and Princeton, with academics, policymakers, and diplomats to showcase Pakistan’s pivotal role in global diplomacy and the Pakistani diaspora’s contributions to U.S. society.

The event featured addresses by prominent speakers, including former Pakistan Ambassador Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, alongside a panel of foreign policy experts exploring international partnerships.

In the context of Pakistan, Siddiqui stressed that the country must frame its diplomatic engagement around tangible contributions, including supply-chain partnerships and continued cooperation in counterterrorism, which remain essential to the broader bilateral equation. He stated that Pakistan has to strengthen its global standing by forging mutually beneficial ties with major powers, reinforcing its position as a key player in diplomacy.

Addressing the audience, Ambassador Siddiqui called for greater representation of Pakistani Americans in U.S. public institutions. He acknowledged significant progress, citing the election of Pakistani Americans as mayors and state senators in recent years, but stressed that sustained engagement is critical. “It’s about American citizens of Pakistani heritage securing a voice in the decisions that shape their lives,” Siddiqui said.

The conference served as a platform to advance dialogue on governance and diplomacy, strengthening U.S.-Pakistan ties through collaboration and the diaspora’s shared contributions.
