Be Aware! A Stranger Might be Peeking at your AI Chats!

be-aware-a-stranger-might-be-peeking-at-your-ai-chats

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Chatbots are revolutionary. It offers personalised learning and communication experiences, fueling an unprecedented range of individual applications.

Students can get their school assignments done, teachers can set questions, and corporate employees can draft emails. In short, it can do everything more efficiently than a human could.

However, there were always concerns about privacy and security. Theoretically, even the most complex and sophisticated chatbots could fail because of the potential failure of underlying software.

On March 20, 2023, these concerns became an unfortunate reality as a bug on ChatGPT led to a major privacy breach, with personal AI chats of many users revealed to someone else.

A Cache Mix-up Resulted in Strangers Peeking at Personal AI Chats

In an incident that was publicly acknowledged by OpenAI itself, a bug was discovered in the open-source Redis client library, which led to a cache mix-up, where some logged-in users saw the AI chat history of other users.

OpenAI reported that only 1.2% of ChatGPT Plus subscribers were online at the time of the cache mix-up. However, confidential information such as credit card details could have unintentionally been disclosed, raising major security dilemmas.

Fortunately, the response was swift. ChatGPT went offline temporarily. OpenAI immediately reached out to the Redis maintainers to resolve the issue. All affected users were notified that their payment details may have been leaked.,

A full review of the system’s architecture was conducted with extensive tests of the fixes to the bug. The American AI company was transparent about the data breach and publicly apologised to all users who may have been affected by the incident.

Users Must Be Careful on All AI Platforms

In the arena of AI chatbots, ChatGPT, especially its premium version, has stood above its competitors with sophisticated architecture and a user-friendly interface. However, GPT is not infallible.

The cache mix-up in March 2023 was proof that even the most sophisticated and secure AI platforms can fail, especially if the underlying software architecture has been compromised. Nonetheless, the incident gave users an important lesson, too.

Your AI chatbot may be able to answer anything, but don’t put any sensitive information into a chat that you don’t want others to see.

Did Buzz Aldrin Once Say the Moon Landing Didn’t Happen?

Did Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin really set foot on the moon?

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to land on the moon. Millions around the world watched the historic feat unfold before their eyes.

The Apollo 11 mission brought great fame to NASA, with many calling it a monumental triumph in science and engineering. It was undoubtedly one of man’s greatest achievements.

Despite its legacy, the Apollo 11 mission has been a constant target of conspiracy theories. One famous rumour claims that Buzz Aldrin, who accompanied Armstrong, himself admitted the moon landing was a hoax.

Buzz Aldrin Never Denied the Moon Landing Happened

A few years ago, an online video combining short clips from three Buzz Aldrin interviews went viral. Many viewers erroneously interpreted that Aldrin admitted that the moon landing was fake.

One clip was taken from the 2015 National Book Festival, which showed a young girl asking Aldrin why no one had been to the moon in a long time. The former American astronaut replied:

“Because we didn’t go there, and that’s the way it happened.”

The version of the video circulating on social media edited out Aldrin’s subsequent explanation. In reality, he was explaining why man hasn’t returned to the moon as opposed to denying the initial moon landing in 1969.

This wasn’t the first time Aldrin became incidentally newsworthy as the legendary astronaut was involved in an altercation with Bart Sibrel, a conspiracy theorist, in 2002.

Sibrel had confronted Aldrin outside a hotel in Beverly Hills, demanding that he swear on a Bible that the moon landing was real. The harassment led to Aldrin punching the conspiracy theorist in an act of self-defence.

Credible Evidence Suggests that the Moon Landing was Legitimate

Irrespective of Buzz Aldrin’s testimony, there is a plethora of credible evidence to suggest that Apollo 11 happened and man walked on the moon.

Satellite images show human footprints on the lunar surface. Moon rocks brought by the missions have been verified. Retroreflectors placed during the mission still emit light.

The Apollo 11 mission was among mankind’s greatest accomplishments. Instead of being victimised by conspiracy theorists, it should be celebrated wholeheartedly and universally.

A massive fire destroyed Tomorrowland’s main stage in Belgium on Wednesday evening, only two days before the event. Despite the damage, organisers confirmed the festival will continue as planned.

Tomorrowland shared on Instagram, ‘A serious incident and fire severely damaged our beloved Mainstage.’’ They also confirmed that no injuries or deaths occurred.

The electronic music festival begins Friday and expects 400,000 visitors over two weekends, reported the BBC. Tomorrowland will open the DreamVille campsite on Thursday for performances and activities. Events in Brussels and Antwerp will also continue “as planned,” organisers added.

For the main event from July 18 to 20, organisers said, “We are focused on finding solutions for the festival weekend. Organisers will share more updates and detailed information as soon as possible.

Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen told Rolling Stone, “Years of love and passion have gone into building that stage. Those teams are devastated.” She added, “Tomorrow, 38,000 festival-goers will arrive. We’re really looking forward to that, and we’re going to give them a warm welcome. We’re going to make it a wonderful festival.”

Wilmsen confirmed other stages remain “intact.” She said, “The intention is for the festival to go ahead. But we can’t do magic, so it will be without the main stage. Our production team will now do everything they can to make it truly special.”

Hundreds of artists will still perform. The lineup includes David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Swedish House Mafia, and Charlotte De Witte. The 2025 list also features Steve Aoki, Dillon Francis, Deadmau5, and Eric Prydz.

The fire’s cause remains unknown. Sources told Gazet van Antwerpen that fireworks testing might have gone wrong. Local firefighter François van den Eynde said, “The blaze spread very quickly, likely because of the materials used to build the stage. Despite all our resources, it was impossible to stop something like that.”

A post shared by edmtrain (@edmtrain)

He added, We tried to extinguish the fire, but as soon as you realise you’re not succeeding, you have to limit the damage to the rest of the festival site. That’s what we did. Everything is under control.”

Tomorrowland started 20 years ago and is now the world’s biggest EDM festival. Last year, 400,000 people attended. This year promises another huge crowd despite the setback.

Would You Pay PKR 1.19 Crore for a Louis Vuitton Bag that Looks Like a Rickshaw?

would-you-pay-pkr-1-19-crore-for-a-louis-vuitton-bag-that-looks-like-a-rickshaw

Luxury labels perpetually search for daring concepts to drive buzz and establish their next style. Louis Vuitton’s newest innovation fits that bill: an auto-rickshaw–designed handbag available at a staggering PKR 1.19 crore (approximately US $42,000).

This radical release falls where high fashion, cultural intrigue, and meme-driven outrage meet. People are curious to know if this is creativity, boldness, or just plain ridiculous.

Let’s break down why this unprecedented handbag has taken place.

would-you-pay-pkr-1-19-crore-for-a-bag-that-looks-like-a-rickshaw-louis-vuitton-thinks-you-might
Louis Vuitton Rickshaw Bag

Design that Commands Attention

Louis Vuitton molded the bag in the form of a miniature auto-rickshaw. Its three wheels, handlebar, and signature yellow canopy turn a utilitarian ride into fashion art for wear.

The outside is LV monogram canvas blended with holographic finish. blending street reality with runway glamour. This precise work calls for intense scrutiny by fashion insiders as well as critics. This kind of avant-garde fashion gives LV room to dictate creativity instead of copying trends.

Whopping $42,000?

At $42,000 or PKR 1.19 crore, the bag is worth more than most luxury homes’ entire seasonal collections. Online observers swiftly highlighted that you could purchase dozens of real auto-rickshaws in Pakistan, or support small businesses in several communities, for that kind of money.

This harsh contrast speaks to inequality and perception of value. Nevertheless, for affluent clients, the price makes it rise from accessory to investment. Some view it as exaggerated swagger, while others see it as symbolic exclusivity.

Fashion or Commercialising Working Class?

The auto-rickshaw is an emblem of South Asian mobility, resilience, and daily life. Converting it into a luxury product sparks controversy. Some commend Louis Vuitton for honouring cultural symbols, while others view it as commercialising working-class culture.

This conflict drives much of the discourse on social media. The public’s ambivalent responses, ranging from playful memes to caustic critiques, demonstrate how culture and commerce intersect at the global luxury periphery.

Marketing Brilliance in the Meme Era

Even when individual units move gradually, the mania surrounding the rickshaw bag generates huge PR value. Rumours and memes break on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, providing gratis publicity on a scale that no conventional campaign could hope to achieve.

Fashion brands look to gauge success in terms of effect rather than quantity, and this fearless gambit satisfies. Louis Vuitton leverages the web’s cultural conduits to present itself as experimental and conversation-starting.

What this Reveals About the Future of Luxury

This rickshaw bag illustrates a number of the new directions for luxury.

For one, exclusivity now means cultural references; brands are playing with identity and heritage. For example the recent Kolhapuri slipper scandal.

Two, shock value and controversy drive desirability.

Three, luxury is becoming conceptual art, rather than craftsmanship.

LV is sending a message that high fashion in the future will not only provide quality, but it will provide statements and cultural discussions.

Prada’s Kolhapuri

Would you spend PKR 1.19 crore on a rickshaw-shaped bag? Louis Vuitton obviously thinks some will, and it’s not merely about fashion. It’s an illustration of marketing success layered with cultural irritation.

The design breaks rules, invites laughter and disdain, and secures LV on the creative frontier of fashion. As icon of style or satire, it brings to mind: in this era of luxury, how far will you go to own a narrative?

Who Exactly are the Druze, and What’s Going on in Syria Right Now?

who-exactly-are-the-druze-and-whats-going-on-in-syria-right-now

The Druze form a monotheistic, Abrahamic religious community rooted in an 11th-century offshoot of Isma’ili Islam. They follow esoteric beliefs, fictitious figures shared with Islam and Christianity, and practice strict endogamy.

Conversion is forbidden. Their religious practices remain private, and only a select group, the uqqāl, access sacred texts. The juhhāl, or uninitiated faithful, focus on life milestones like birth, marriage, and death without public ritual.

They teach loyalty to their society as they integrate harmoniously into wider society.

who-exactly-are-the-druze-and-whats-going-on-in-syria-right-now
What is going on in Syria right now?

Demographics & Geography

Approximately 800,000 to one million Druze reside throughout the Levant, with 45–50% in Syria, 35–40% in Lebanon, and 6–7% in Israel.

A Druze population of around 3% of the whole, some 700,000, lives mainly in the mountainous Jabal al-Druze region and the As-Suwayda Governorate, in which the Druze make up the majority.

Others can also be found in the suburbs of Damascus. Outside the region, there are diaspora communities in Latin America, North America, and Europe.

Historical Position & Political Role

Historically, the Druze were persecuted under various Muslim empires. They responded by cultivating autonomous mountain enclaves and forming militia-based protection. They hardly identify strictly as Muslim today, but politically, they side with the ruling powers.

After the fall of Assad’s regime in December 2024, Druze leadership negotiated local integration with the new government, yet they remain wary of regimes tied to extremist ideology.

The Druze people organised the Suwayda Military Council (SMC) in February 2025 to protect the As-Suwayda area. Comprising defected military officers and supported by local sheikhs, the SMC protects Druze towns and advocates secularism, decentralisation, and democracy.

They are against extremist factions and reject merging with the new regime’s Islamist-oriented army. The council enjoys military influence at the local level and allies with Kurdish-led groups, strengthening its semi-autonomous status.

Sweida Current Conflict & Government Clashes

Violence erupted in southern Syria’s Sweida province in April–May 2025 when Syrian government troops and Bedouin militias carried out sectarian assaults on Druze civilians, killing about 100 in extrajudicial killings.

Druze militias retaliated, resulting in escalated clashes close to Jaramana in February–March and resumed hostilities in July. More than 250 to 350 individuals have been killed amidst fluctuating ceasefires, disputed truce negotiations, and government counterinsurgency campaigns.

Israel’s Intervention & Regional Tensions

Israel has acted through airstrikes against Syrian military sites in Sweida and Damascus. Israeli authorities referred to an obligation to guard their co-religionist Druze, many of whom are related across the frontier.

They shot down tanks, rocket launchers, and convoys of troops, pledging repeated action until the withdrawal of the Syrian forces from the Druze-majority regions. The attacks represented Israel’s first explicit confrontations with the post-Assad regime headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Ceasefires & Uncertain Outlook

A Druze-Syrian government ceasefire went into effect in mid-July, leading to government troop withdrawals from Sweida. Divisions in the leadership of Druze, with some in favour of the truce and others opposed, however, make the agreement tenuous.

President al-Sharaa made a statement of state determination to safeguard Druze and entrust some security tasks to local troops. Anonymously, observers warn that previous ceasefires fell apart hastily, and tensions are still high.

The Druze are at a precarious juncture. Long committed to communal unity and local self-rule, they are now threatened with extinction by sectarian war, government retaliation, and divided internal leadership.

Ceasefires offer short-term peace, but lasting stability requires a political deal that ensures Druze autonomy, safety, and regional cooperation, including Israel’s complex involvement. As Syria moves beyond Assad, the world watches closely while this resilient minority faces new struggles.

From Action to Cash: Punjab’s Game-Changing Green Credit Program

from-action-to-cash-punjabs-game-changing-green-credit-program

Story from Our Correspondents: Hira Bajwa and Rehman Ali

What if planting a tree, recycling plastic, or even posting about the environment could earn you real money? In Punjab, that idea is no longer fiction. With the launch of the CM Punjab Green Credit Program (CMPGCP), citizens are being paid to take climate-positive actions, turning small environmental steps into real cash rewards.

The initiative, introduced in December 2024 by the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EP&CCD), is pioneering a new era of community-driven, incentive-based environmental responsibility, and it’s starting right here in Lahore.

The program is currently running as a pilot in Lahore, but due to its early success, it is now set to expand across the entire province of Punjab. Citizens can engage in 32 climate-positive activities, such as planting trees, adopting electric vehicles, promoting eco-awareness, cycling for clean air, and sharing verified content, all linked to a reward system.

How Does the Process Work?

Each verified activity earns citizens a Green Credit, a cash reward of PKR 10,000. Participants can earn up to 10 Green Credits (worth PKR 100,000) by completing approved activities. The process is simple and transparent:

  1. Register on the official CMPGCP portal.
  2. Submit activity details via the MRV (Measurement, Reporting & Verification) form.
  3. The activity is then reviewed and physically verified.
  4. The supervisory committee approves the activity.
  5. Green Credits are issued directly to the citizen.

So far, more than 500 people have received Green Credits, with over 200 more in the pipeline. What’s especially encouraging is the diversity of participation: 66% are youth and 40% are women, signalling broad-based ownership of environmental change.

One of the standout initiatives within the Lahore pilot is the installation of a plastic recycling reward machine. By depositing 10 used plastic bottles, citizens receive a cash reward of PKR 1,000. It’s a simple but powerful example of how climate action can be turned into everyday habits and real incentives.

Incentivising Sustainability

To boost reach and awareness, the CMPGCP is also engaging social media influencers. Any influencer with 1,000 or more followers who posts verified environmental content can earn 1 Green Credit. Those with over 1 million followers are placed in a Gold Category, recognising their broader impact.

The government is also preparing to launch a Green Credit Trading Mechanism, which would allow participants to sell or exchange their credits, potentially connecting Punjab’s local climate actions to global carbon markets, a major step forward in environmental financing.

The momentum is building with two major public events: a Cyclathon on 6th September (Defence Day) and another on 14th August (Independence Day). These rides are more than symbolic; they’re an invitation to citizens to link patriotism with environmental action.

Aligned with the Punjab Growth Strategy, the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this initiative is more than a policy; it’s a climate action model for the rest of the country.

From plastic bottles to tree planting, from social media reels to real-life change, Punjab is proving that the future of climate leadership is local, youth-led, and rewarding.

Because here, doing good for the planet doesn’t just feel good, it pays.

The CM Punjab Green Credit Program is currently expanding from its successful Lahore pilot to all districts across Punjab. For more information and to register, visit the official CMPGCP portal.

Lamine Yamal Takes on Barcelona’s Legendary No. 10 Shirt

lamine-yamal-takes-on-barcelona-no-10-shirt

Lamine Yamal, the teenage sensation of who’s lit up both La Liga and the international stage, has officially inherited Barcelona’s iconic No. 10 shirt, once worn by Lionel Messi.

It’s not just a change of kit, it’s a statement of belief from the club. But with great numbers come great expectations. Is Yamal ready to handle the pressure that weighed down Ansu Fati?

A New Era Begins at Camp Nou

Barcelona confirmed that Yamal will wear the No. 10 shirt for the 2025–26 season. This move comes as Ansu Fati, the previous holder of the number, heads to AS Monaco on loan.

Yamal now becomes the youngest player in club history to sport the iconic number, and the message is clear: Barcelona sees him as their future.

At just 17, Yamal’s rise has been rapid. He broke into the first team as a 15-year-old and has already made over 100 appearances, scoring 25 goals.

What Went Wrong for Ansu Fati?

When Messi left, Fati was supposed to be the heir. Handed the legendary shirt in 2021, he had the talent, the flair, and the backing of the fans. But fate had other plans.

Recurring injuries robbed Fati of momentum. During the 2024–25 season, he played just 291 minutes across 11 matches and failed to score a single goal.

According to Transfermarkt, he missed over 84 days due to injury. It was a frustrating stretch for a player once billed as the next big thing.

Barcelona’s decision to loan him to Monaco, with an €11 million purchase option, reflects a mix of sporting pragmatism and financial need.

Fati, still under contract until 2028, now hopes to find his spark in Ligue 1. “I am fighting to get back to my best level,” he said in a press conference. “And I am here to try to do that.”

Why the No. 10 Shirt Still Matters?

This isn’t just a squad number. At Barcelona, the No. 10 carries a legacy. Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Messi all wore it, and each left an unforgettable mark on the club. It’s more than fabric; it’s identity.

But it’s also a heavy load. Ansu Fati learned that the hard way. The pressure, the comparisons, and the expectations can be stifling, especially for young players.

Yamal’s Meteoric Rise

Unlike many of his peers, Yamal’s progress has been consistent and clear. In 2023, he became the youngest-ever scorer for both Barcelona and Spain. His composure, sharp dribbling, and ability to read the game make him a unique attacking threat.

Throughout the 2024–25 season, he became one of the key figures in Barcelona’s attacking play, helping the team secure a domestic treble.

His performances drew praise from across Europe, and in May 2025, he signed a new contract that keeps him at the club until 2031, making him one of the best-paid players in the squad.

One Last Ride into the Upside Down: Stranger Things Teases an Epic Ending!

one-last-ride-into-the-upside-down-stranger-things-teases-an-epic-ending

It is time to go back to the eerie world of Stranger Things as the season is returning by the end of the year! Netflix has officially released the first teaser of season 5, and it’s safe to say, it’s chaotic, it’s wild, and it’s everything fans have been waiting for.

Netflix has divided Season 5 into three action-packed segments: Volume 1 comes out November 26 (four episodes), Volume 2 arrives December 25 (three episodes), and the season finale airs December 31, a year-end sendoff with fireworks.

Framed as “The Rightside Up,” the finale echoes the show’s introduction. The Duffer Brothers vow speeded-up action sequences and answers to many questions, a real finale for the times.

Stranger Things is Back in November 2025

Time Jump & Upside Down Apocalypse

The teaser begins in autumn 1987, over a year since the Season 4 mayhem. Hawkins is under military quarantine, battered by unsteady dimensional tears. The Demodogs are back, and there are sinister new beasts lurking around every corner.

Moments depict Eleven sitting blindfolded in meditation in a van, Hopper and crew navigating monstrous irregular landscapes, and the walls of the Upside Down dripping with organic tendrils. Hawkins’ darkest timeline yet appears to be this.

At its essence, Season 5 is about a single mission: discover and destroy Vecna. The teaser hints at an all-out war between Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Will, Robin, Nancy, Jonathan, Hopper, Joyce, Erica, and newcomers such as Dr. Kay (Linda Hamilton) joining forces for the final battle.

Resonance of the first season’s gang joining forces sounds loud. Mike’s voiceover declares, “Soon, we burn it down,” while Hopper begs, “fight one last time,” setting the stage for a high-stakes finale.

Emotional Stakes & Character Journeys

The teaser doesn’t simply tease battles, it teases heartbreak. Max lies unconscious in the hospital, Lucas weeps by her bedside, Dustin grieves the loss of Eddie, and Nancy grapples with emotional stress. Jonathan comforts crying Will. Erica takes action as Karen Wheeler shields young Holly.

This season leans into heavy emotional payoff; deaths will occur, bonds will be shaken, and characters will grapple with personal demons.

Giant 1970s heavy metal powers the teaser’s heroic atmosphere, perpetuating the show’s heritage of music as mood. New additions to the cast are Linda Hamilton as Dr. Kay and Mike’s sister Holly (Nell Fisher).

Off screen, Maya Hawke referred to Season 5 as “essentially eight movies” with extended run times. And even if Hawkins’ story comes to a close, Netflix teases more life with spin-offs, such as Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, keeping the universe alive.

Why it Matters: A Cultural Moment

Stranger Things revolutionised streaming by combining 1980s nostalgia, science fiction, horror, and sentimental coming-of-age drama. The last season doesn’t end a show; it ends a cultural phenomenon.

By tying up character paths, supernatural horrors, and the destiny of Hawkins, it provides closure for viewers. By releasing Season 5 in a multi-part rollout around key holidays, Netflix makes the season an international shared experience, both closing an era and launching the next chapter of the storytelling universe.

So, as Hawkins prepares for one final wild ride into the Upside Down, devotees can anticipate spectacle, heartbreak, and closure aplenty.

So, are you ready for a crazy ride?

West Indies Cricket Says No to Scrapping ODIs Against Pakistan

pakistan-west-indies-odis-set-to-be-scrapped-for-more-t20is

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying to switch gears ahead of next year’s big tournaments, but the West Indies aren’t quite ready to play along, not just yet, anyway.

As things stand, Pakistan are scheduled to play a six-match white-ball series in the Caribbean, three T20Is in Florida, followed by three ODIs in Trinidad.

However, PCB has formally proposed changing the ODI leg into T20Is to better prepare for the ACC Asia Cup 2025 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Why are West Indies Saying No?

According to sources close to the matter, Cricket West Indies (CWI) isn’t on board with scrapping the ODIs. And there’s a pretty good reason for that.

After missing out on a place at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, the West Indies are focused on rebuilding their 50-over unit. Dropping ODIs now, just as they’re trying to steady the ship, doesn’t make much sense to them.

CWI CEO Chris Dehring confirmed the ongoing discussions but didn’t leave much room for doubt when he said, “The schedule remains as it is, and we continue to engage with the PCB on the matter.”

Decision Time in Singapore

The final verdict is expected at the ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore. That’s when the cricket boards of Pakistan and the West Indies will have a chance to sit down, lay all the cards on the table, and (hopefully) find common ground.

Until then, it’s a bit of a waiting game. Interestingly, CWI has already started ticket sales for both the T20Is and ODIs, suggesting they’re not expecting a major change to the schedule.

What’s On the Calendar?

Here’s how the West Indies-Pakistan white-ball series currently looks:

T20Is in Florida

  • 1st T20I: July 31
  • 2nd T20I: August 2
  • 3rd T20I: August 3

ODIs in Trinidad

  • 1st ODI: August 8
  • 2nd ODI: August 10
  • 3rd ODI: August 12

A Clash of Priorities?

It’s clear both boards have valid points. Pakistan want more T20I cricket under their belt with two major T20 tournaments looming large.

Meanwhile, the West Indies, still licking their wounds from a forgettable ODI chapter, want to build something sustainable in the longer white-ball format.

Apple Strikes $500 Million Deal With MP to Boost U.S. Rare Earth Magnets Supply

apple-strikes-500-million-deal-with-mp-to-boost-u-s-rare-earth-supply

Apple signed a $500 million deal with MP Materials to secure rare earth magnets, strengthening its U.S. supply chain after China curbed exports this year.

The deal follows MP’s multibillion-dollar agreement with the U.S. Department of Defence, making the Pentagon its largest shareholder. MP, based in Las Vegas, runs the only rare earth mine in the U.S.

MP’s stock nearly doubled after the government deal. Previously, the company struggled with falling profits and even considered merging with an Australian rival. CEO Jim Litinsky called that period a “very frustrating” pricing environment.

This new agreement ensures Apple gets magnets free from China, the world’s top producer. Consequently, analysts say supporting U.S. production costs less than losing access. Therefore, Apple invested heavily to secure its supply.

Moreover, experts view this as part of a broader shift in corporate priorities. In fact, “Executives now pay a premium for reliable supply chains,” said Gracelin Baskaran, director at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies. As a result, stability outweighs cost-cutting.

Previously, China restricted rare earth exports in April after U.S. tariffs. However, despite a June trade deal, risks remain. For this reason, Apple seeks non-Chinese sources to avoid future disruptions.

Apple will prepay $200 million under the deal, with magnet deliveries starting in 2027. MP will make magnets from recycled material at its Texas plant, using supplies from its California site. This aligns with Apple’s goal to end mining dependency.

“Rare earth materials are vital for advanced tech, and this partnership strengthens U.S. supply,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. Bob O’Donnell of TECHnalysis Research added, “This move makes sense since Apple needs huge amounts of magnets. Plus, working with a U.S. supplier helps Apple in Washington.”

Finally, Apple confirmed the deal is part of its $500 billion U.S. investment plan over four years, addressing criticism about overseas iPhone production.

Arshad Nadeem Undergoes Successful Surgery in the UK

arshad-nadeem-makes-forbes-30-under-30

Pakistan’s javelin superstar, Arshad Nadeem, has taken a vital step towards full recovery after undergoing successful muscle surgery in the United Kingdom (UK) earlier this week.

The 28-year-old Olympic gold medallist had been struggling with a persistent calf muscle issue, which recently forced him to pull out of an international event in Switzerland. That decision, though disappointing for fans, turned out to be a wise one.

Medical scans revealed partial damage in his calf muscle, damage that couldn’t be ignored any longer. Thankfully, under the watchful eye of Dr Ali Bajwa in Cambridge, the issue was addressed surgically.

A Team Effort Behind the Scenes

His long-time coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, along with the dedicated medical team, remains hopeful about his comeback. Their message is clear that Arshad is in safe hands, and while the rehab process will be demanding, his fighting spirit remains unshaken.

“He’s shown time and again that setbacks don’t hold him back,” one insider said. “This is just another hurdle he’ll leap over.”

Arshad’s Golden Journey So Far

Arshad Nadeem rose to popularity when he stunned the world last year by smashing the Olympic javelin record with a phenomenal throw of 92.97 metres at the Paris Olympics, clinching gold in unforgettable fashion.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Arshad followed it up by winning gold at the Asian Athletics Championship just last month, throwing 86.40 metres to assert his regional dominance.

But it didn’t all begin there. His breakthrough moment came at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where he bagged his first major gold medal.

He backed that up with a silver at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, showing the world that his talent is no one-hit wonder.

In total, Arshad has racked up an impressive four golds, one silver and four bronze medals across some of the most prestigious events in athletics, including the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and more.

While there’s no official timeline for his return to competition just yet, the early signs post-surgery are promising. If all goes well, he could be back in training sooner than expected, perhaps even eyeing a return before the end of the year.

114-Year-Old Marathon Icon, Fauja Singh, Passes Away in Tragic Crash

114-year-old-marathon-icon-fauja-singh-passes-away-in-tragic-crash

The world’s oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh, died in a hit-and-run on Monday at the age of 114, according to Indian police. Singh, who started marathon running at 89, became a global icon for endurance and determination. He continued to compete for years after his 100th birthday.

Born in rural India in 1911, Singh later moved to London. He earned the nickname “Turbaned Tornado” after taking up marathon running in his late 80s. He completed nine marathons, inspiring millions worldwide. Though considered the world’s oldest marathon runner, he never received a Guinness World Record because he had no birth certificate.

Police said an unknown vehicle hit Singh while he was walking near his native village of Beas in Punjab. Police official Harvinder Singh Virk confirmed that he died from head and rib injuries at Shrimann Hospital in Jalandhar.

Authorities arrested a suspect on Tuesday after checking CCTV footage. Virk said,We have registered a case under negligent driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.”

Inspector Hardev Preet Singh told CNN that the accused is 26 years old, lives overseas, and police has informed his family in Canada about the incident. Authorities brought the accused to Jalandhar district court on Wednesday.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led tributes, calling Singh “an exceptional athlete with incredible determination.” Singh began marathon running after his wife and son died, saying, “Running showed me kindness and brought me back to life by making me forget all my traumas and sorrows,” in an interview, he was 102.

He ran his first marathon after only a few months of training and recorded his best time of five hours and 40 minutes at the 2003 Toronto Waterfront Marathon. In 2011, Singh became the first centenarian to finish a marathon in eight hours, 11 minutes, and six seconds.

His journey was remarkable because, as a child, he could not walk until the age of five due to weak legs. His last race was in Hong Kong in 2013, a year after carrying the torch for the 2012 London Olympics. Though Guinness did not recognise his feats, he received a congratulatory letter from Queen Elizabeth on his 100th birthday.

Singh once said, “I am very fond of my running shoes, absolutely love them. I wear them for pleasure. I can’t imagine my life without them.”

Celebrating Sonya Hussain: Every Time She Was an Absolute Queen on Screen

celebrating-sonya-hussain-every-time-she-was-an-absolute-queen-on-screen

Sonya Hussain is that actress who never phones it in. Whether she’s playing a heartbroken heroine or a bold rebel, she owns the screen every single time. She’s not just acting, she’s living the role.

Here’s a quick walk down memory lane to celebrate every time Sonya was an absolute queen on screen.

Aisi Hai Tanhai

In Aisi Hai Tanhai, Sonya tackled one of the most socially relevant and emotionally exhausting roles in Pakistani television.

As Pakeeza, a young woman whose life turns upside down after a private video goes viral, Sonya delivered a performance that was equal parts gut-wrenching and brave. She portrayed trauma, isolation, and resilience with a rawness that made the story unforgettable.

Ishq Zahe Naseeb

While Zahid Ahmed’s dual personality role grabbed headlines, Sonya’s subtle and emotionally layered portrayal of Gohar was the anchor that kept the drama grounded. Her expressions did more talking than the script at times.

She brought a quiet strength to her character, making us root for Gohar through every twist and turn. It was one of her most nuanced performances and easily among the finest in recent memory.

Nazo

Sonya’s role in Nazo remains one of the most underappreciated performances in her career. Playing a mentally challenged girl could have easily been reduced to a caricature, but Sonya played it with such dignity and empathy that it shattered stereotypes.

She proved that sensitivity and skill can coexist beautifully when a role is handled with care, and that she isn’t afraid to challenge herself.

Her Film Presence

Though her filmography is relatively small compared to her TV career, Sonya’s roles in Azaadi, Tich Button and the recent main role in Deemak show her range. For Deemak, the actress even recieved a much deserved award.

Whether she’s playing a patriot caught in love or a headstrong woman facing heartbreak, she brings an emotional authenticity that commands the camera. And with upcoming projects in the pipeline, it’s clear Sonya is just getting started in cinema.

Off-Screen? Still a Queen.

Sonya isn’t just about killer performances. She’s real, outspoken, and unafraid to speak up about mental health and body image issues in real life too.

We saw this recently too when Sonya was the first woman from showbiz that stepped out in the recent Humaira Asghar case and owned her dead body while the world was refusing to. She also went one-on-one with investigators to unleash the truth behind Humairas’s death, something only few people do in their “wokeness.”

UK Introduces E-Visa for Pakistani Nationals: What You Need to Know

UK Introduces E-Visa for Pakistani Nationals: What You Need to Know

At a time of unprecedented brain drain, Pakistanis have had to face strict visa control measures for long-term entry into the Middle East and the United States.

Fortunately, the United Kingdom has given Pakistanis a much-needed breather amid growing nationalistic ideologies globally. The UK government has introduced a digital system, its Electronic Visas for Pakistani Nationals, that promises to streamline the immigration process for young visa applicants.

Beginning from 15th July, the British High Commission (BHC) will begin rolling out E-visas for Pakistani students and workers, replacing physical immigration documents with digital evidence of immigration status.

This new measure is part of an enhanced border and immigration system that will improve security measures and streamline the process for students and workers. The British High Commissioner, Jane Marriot, said:

“These changes to the UK visa system will make it much simpler for students and workers to prove their identity and visa status. It also means applicants can hold onto their passports, saving them time.”

According to the official notice, E-visas will be rolled out for students (including short-term study for 11 months), global talent, global business mobility routes, international sportspersons, skilled workers (including healthcare), temporary work routes, and the Youth Mobility Scheme.

The transition from a physical visa to a digital one will have no effect on a person’s immigration status. Holders can link their passports, i.e., travel documents, to their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account to facilitate international travel.

However, dependents and general visitor visas would still require physical proof. Furthermore, this new system will not affect those with existing valid physical visa documents.

There is no need for physical UK visas for Pakistani students and workers.

E-visas Benefit Both Travellers and Immigration Authorities

The introduction of the UK e‑Visa system for Pakistani students and workers marks a major step toward a modernised, secure, and user-friendly immigration process. By replacing physical visa stickers with a fully digital status linked to an online account, the UK is reducing administrative burdens and enhancing convenience for applicants.

For Pakistanis seeking to study or work in the UK, this means faster processing, no need to submit passports for visa stamping, and easier verification of status at the border and with UK institutions.

In summary, this is a forward step that simplifies, streamlines, and modernises the tedious immigration process for travellers and immigration authorities.

Techno-Oligarchy: Tech Billionaires Quietly Building a New Ruling Class

techno-oligarchy-are-tech-billionaires-quietly-building-a-new-ruling-class

The Silicon Valley’s tech elites, with their anti-democratic ideologies, are aiming to develop a new ruling class in the government. Writers now refer to them as “techno-oligarchs”—a new class of mega-rich individuals who wield “immense power through the control of digital infrastructure, data and technological innovation”.

In practice, this means men like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg can sway markets, shape public discourse and even influence governments in ways almost unheard of a generation ago. Yes, this is no conspiracy theory, and it is unfolding in front of our very eyes.

The Techno-Oligarchs

The term “techno-oligarchy” describes these billionaires who sit at the helm of Apple, Google, Amazon, Meta and other giants and use that position to shape policy, often beyond the reach of elected officials.

In short, technology no longer only serves innovation; it is power, and these titans are, by virtue of data and wealth, the new kings of it.

For decades, America’s richest donors pulled strings quietly by funnelling money into campaigns and lobbying behind the scenes. Today’s tech moguls are doing something far bolder.

Elon Musk, for example, has openly staked out a political role that dwarfs anything we’ve seen from corporate moguls in U.S. history. In 2024, he gave over $130 million to support Donald Trump’s campaign, then strolled into the White House halls not as a hidden backer but as co-chair of a new “Department of Government Efficiency” alongside fellow billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy.

As a Times analyst put it, Musk’s moves amount to “an extraordinary flexing of power by a private individual.”

Northwestern professor Jason Seawright concurs: “We’ve never really seen anyone be that directly connected with a campaign unless they were the candidate.”

Meanwhile, other tech billionaires quietly deploy their influence. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, owner of The Washington Post and aeronautics firm Blue Origin, quietly donates to political causes and funds global projects.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg funnelled hundreds of millions into “Election Day” grants nationwide.

As Vox’s Sigal Samuel reports, today’s tech titans (Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos, Peter Thiel, Marc Andreessen and the like) operate on an ideology that casts them as untouchable supermen. They embrace MAGA’s lawless ethos because it promises exactly what they crave: “unchecked power to the powerful.”

Trump’s victory only reinforced their conviction.

Their Techno-Fascism is Not Subtle Anymore

This is not a subtle influence; it’s an “in-your-face oligarchy,” as Northwestern professor Jeffrey Winters terms it.

This brazenness is spreading: crypto bros, hedge fund titans and Silicon Valley barons now openly host MAGA events, tweet conspiracies, and proclaim contempt for democracy.

Gone are the days when moguls quietly bought ambassadorships or sweet government contracts. Now they post on social media, command devoted followings (Musk has 200 million followers himself) and legislate from behind the scenes.

elon-musk-nazi-salute
Elon Musk was witnessed doing the Nazi Salute.

This alignment of Silicon Valley with anti-democratic forces has a bitter irony. The tech industry was built on open knowledge, immigration, and scientific progress, and yet many of its leaders now finance a movement that undermines those very foundations.

These are the same billionaires “who owe their fortunes to open borders, public universities and basic research,”  and yet they now cheer on a regime dismantling universities, healthcare, and climate science. Rather than addressing problems like hate speech or privacy abuse, tech CEOs deflect with rhetoric.

The upshot is a political system imperilled by concentrated tech power, “digital kill chains”, and apartheid becoming “economically sound.”

Will we be able to acquiesce to this private plutocracy, or reassert democratic control? The answer will determine whether the next chapter is one of shared progress or corporate domination.

indrive-launches-premium-rides-to-meet-growing-demand-for-high-end-travel

inDrive, the country’s largest mobility platform, has launched Premium-category Rides in major cities across Pakistan, offering passengers top-rated drivers and newer vehicles.

The move signals the company’s push to capture a growing market segment seeking high-end travel options.

Now available in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, inDrive Premium promises a higher standard of service, featuring newer-model sedans and drivers with ratings of 4.8 or higher.

Each vehicle enrolled in the Premium category undergoes additional inspections beyond the standard approval process to ensure a consistently smooth and safe ride.

“inDrive is founded on the belief that everyone deserves the freedom to choose how they move, work, and earn. This principle guides every aspect of our platform,” said Awais Saeed, Country Head of inDrive Pakistan.

“With inDrive Premium, we are elevating the standard for travel while maintaining our commitment to fairness and freedom.”

The launch comes as Pakistan’s urban centres witness rising demand for flexible mobility options that don’t compromise on safety or service quality.

Saeed added that inDrive sees the premium segment as a natural evolution for a platform built on fairness, trust, and user empowerment.

While inDrive Premium caters to higher-end needs, the company emphasised that the core offering of flexibility in pricing remains unchanged.

Passengers can negotiate their price and book premium vehicles on demand. This makes the category ideal for busy professionals, families, or anyone seeking extra comfort and convenience.

Safety is one of the core pillars of inDrive’s platform.

The company continues to innovate and invest in robust safety features to protect both passengers and driver-partners, while maintaining industry-low commissions that support its growing community.

Passengers have the ability to choose their driver based on verified profiles, ratings, and ride history.

Every driver is thoroughly vetted before joining the platform to ensure they meet inDrive’s standards for professionalism and reliability. inDrive also uses machine learning to monitor for inappropriate behaviour.

Throughout each ride, passengers have access to safety tools, ensuring they stay connected and protected at every step.

UK Removes Pakistan From Air Safety List

uk-removes-pakistan-from-air-safety-list

The United Kingdom has officially removed Pakistan from its Air Safety List, allowing Pakistani airlines to apply for flight operations to the UK again.

This was confirmed by the British High Commission in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The move follows a security inspection by a UK Department for Transport team at Islamabad International Airport, which found Pakistan’s aviation security to be “satisfactory and in line with international standards.”

The ban had been in place since June 2020 after a PIA Airbus A-320 crashed in Karachi, killing nearly 100 people.

Although the ban on European operations was lifted in November 2023, restrictions on UK flights remained.

A statement from the British High Commission read, “Following air safety improvements, the UK’s Air Safety Committee has lifted UK restrictions on Pakistani carriers.”

However, airlines must still apply individually to the UK Civil Aviation Authority for permits.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott appreciated the teamwork between UK and Pakistani experts: “I’m grateful to aviation experts in the UK and Pakistan for their collaborative work to drive improvements to meet international safety standards. While it will take time for flights to resume, once the logistics are in place, I look forward to using a Pakistani carrier when visiting family and friends.”

The statement explained that the UK’s Air Safety Committee, through an independent process, had been working with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority for years.

It concluded that Pakistan had made the necessary safety improvements since 2021 and decided to remove Pakistan and its carriers from the list.

Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif called the development “another milestone” and credited his party’s government for the effort. He posted on X: “Three years of continuous hard work have borne fruit.”

He also criticised former PM Imran Khan and ex-aviation minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, who, in 2020, had claimed that 40% of pilots in Pakistan held fake licenses. “But today, the green crescent flag is once again soaring proudly in the skies,” Asif added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also celebrated the decision, calling it a step that would ease travel and boost trade between the UK and Pakistan.

He wrote on X, “With over 1.6 million people of Pakistani heritage living in the UK and thousands of British nationals in Pakistan, today’s announcement brings long-awaited relief and new opportunities for families and friends to reunite.”

He added, “As Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, this ease in travel between the UK and Pakistan will help this vital trade relationship grow manifold.”

The decision comes just a day after the UK launched e-visas for Pakistani students and workers.

A day before that, both countries signed the Trade Dialogue Mechanism Agreement and agreed to set up the UK-Pakistan Business Advisory Council to deepen economic ties.

What’s Behind the 5G Delay in Pakistan?

What's Behind the 5G Delay in Pakistan?

Pakistan’s 5G launch has been delayed, notwithstanding repeated assurances since 2021. The setback angers consumers, businesses, and investors seeking high-speed internet and digital growth.

The successful launch of 5G would add to GDP, allow for smart services, and bring Pakistan on par with regional peers. However, the timing is still unclear.

Let us review the major reasons 5G remains elusive in Pakistan.

Pakistan's 5G Launch Gets Delayed Once Again
What is causing the delay in launching 5G in Pakistan?

Legal Issues Regarding Spectrum & Regulatory Hurdles

Courts have suspended portions of the 5G auction of the spectrum, freezing around 146 MHz of the originally planned 196 MHz. Ongoing legal hurdles against bands at 2600 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 1800 MHz remain on the way. The Spectrum Advisory Committee hasn’t met yet since pricing and allocations are still legally held up.

Ufone and Telenor Merger is Stalled

The planned Ufone (PTCL) and Telenor Pakistan merger is stalled at the review stage at the Competition Commission because of incomplete filings. Uncertainty has been the fate of this deal, deterring investments and delaying auctions. Regulators will not advance until the merger is sorted out, causing a cascading delay throughout the process.

High Taxes & Poor Business Climate

Pakistan is amongst the lowest globally in average revenue per user (ARPU). Telecom operators point to heavy taxation, 15% withholding and as much as 19.5% sales tax, and low smartphone penetration (more than 40% are still using non-smartphones) as the reasons they cannot afford 5G infrastructure commercially.

Low Active Spectrum

Pakistan has only 274 MHz of active spectrum, well below the ITU-recommended 840 MHz for mobile broadband. Besides, poor power, regular blackouts and high commercial tariffs, and the absence of strong fibre backhaul networks provide no support for keeping 5G networks financially and technologically viable.

Policy Inconsistency & Weak Government Plan

Since 2021, governments have consistently made 5G auction announcements and then failed to meet deadlines. The Spectrum Auction Committee has not met since June 2025. Telecom policy changes, conflicting orders, and a lack of a clear digital roadmap instil operators with no faith in a clear, stable direction.

Pakistan eyes launch of 5G in 2023 - Business - DAWN.COM
FDI in Telecom

Pakistan is at a turning point. Delayed 5G not only holds citizens back from faster internet, but it erodes economic digitalisation and dilutes tech competitiveness in South Asia.

The government needs to pull back quickly from legal cases, close telecom mergers, revamp tax and energy policy, auction spectrum smartly, and provide a clear, consistent rollout plan. Without the above, 5G can remain a promise, not a reality.
