Netanyahu Says Hamas Gaza Chief Has Been Killed

netanyahu-says-hamas-gaza-chief-mohammad-sinwar-has-been-killed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that Hamas’ Gaza head, Mohammad Sinwar, younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, had been killed. Yahya, head of Hamas, organised the assault in October 2023. Hamas still under finds not Mohammad Sinwar’s death.

Earlier this month, an Israeli strike on a hospital in southern Gaza targeted Mohammad Sinwar. Netanyahu stated on May 21 that Sinwar probably perished in that assault.

Netanyahu claimed in his speech to the Israeli parliament, “Sinwar has been eliminated.” He also noted other Hamas leaders Israel had murdered over the last 20 months. Among those was Mohammad’s brother, Yahya Sinwar.

Netanyahu remarked, “In the last two days, we have been in a spectacular turnaround toward a total defeat of Hamas.” He said Israel is now “taking control of food distribution,” alluding to a revamped aid distribution mechanism in Gaza. A group supported by the US oversees this system.

Recently, the Israeli military has stepped up its Gaza attacks. This intensification followed the collapse of a truce with Hamas in March. Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir remarked on May 26 that Hamas had lost a lot of its crucial assets. Among these is its command and control centre.

Last year, Mohammad Sinwar climbed the ranks of Hamas following his brother Yahya’s death in fighting Israeli troops. Later, he became Hamas’s general leader. His appointment followed an Israeli operation in Iran resulting in the death of his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh.

Netanyahu’s most recent comments indicate that Israel maintains military pressure on Hamas. His assertion on Mohammad Sinwar’s death builds on a series of top-tier Hamas officials who were targeted and killed during this conflict.

Hamas has not publicly responded to Netanyahu’s statement, and no sources have independently verified Sinwar’s death.

Invisible and Ignored: The Plight of Minimum Wage Workers

invisible-and-ignored-the-plight-of-minimum-wage-workers

On 21 May 2025, a suicide was reported by many local newspapers. The individual who committed the act was a private security guard. Although the case was shrugged off as a family dispute, any sane person would know that a man who stands in the heat of the sun, the rain, day and night, for 8 hours a day, 26 days a month and earns the bare minimum of 38,000 is very likely to commit suicide.

This is an extremely vulnerable man who is pushed to the margins of society, but because he has no other choice, he accepts his fate.

He works despite being deprived of his dignity, basic rights, EOBI, social security, weekly holidays and most importantly, a legal minimum wage.

Let’s Look at Facts

Security guard suicides are not new; over the past decade, they have become increasingly common.

  • Oct 17. 2017: A sixty-year-old security guard took his own life at work, in Rawalpindi, by hanging himself from the ceiling. The case drew attention to the meagre salaries given to guards, at times only Rs10,000 to Rs15,00 a month. (reported by Express Tribune)
  • Nov 11, 2021: A security guard posted at Rim Jhim Villas in Gulshan-e-Usman was killed in a mysterious firing incident. Police investigation later opined that it may be a suicide. (reported by Express Tribune)
  • Dec 16, 2022: A security guard allegedly committed suicide in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area by shooting himself. (reported by Dunya News)
  • Dec 2, 2024: An on-duty security guard shot himself with a pistol in Jhelum city. The SHO later stated that the guard was suffering from the financial crisis. (reported by Dawn)
  • Dec 31, 2024: A 26-year-old security guard shot himself in Karachi near Sharafi Goth. (reported by The Nation)

These are some of the reported suicide cases of security guards all over Pakistan. In the past years, due to the increasing inflation and wages that have yet to meet the bare minimum, many guards and security workers have found no other way out.

Minimum Wage: Legal vs. Lived Reality

Approximately one million security guards are working across Pakistan today. On paper, the minimum wage for guards in 2025 is as follows:

  • Sindh: Rs38,280 for an 8-hour daily shift and RS76,560 for a 12-hour shift

  • Punjab: Rs39,088 for an 8-hour shift and Rs78,176 for a 12-hour shift

These wages are set by provincial governments under labour laws. However, the enforcement of them remains a fantasy. Many guards continue to be paid below minimum wage, especially by private contractors and security firms who exploit their vulnerability. This ultimately results in these poor people taking their own lives.

Security guards in Pakistan are denied the most basic things:

  • Job security
  • EOBI or pension
  • Social security
  • Guaranteed weekly holidays
  • Often, even the legal minimum wage

What Needs to be Done

The ongoing crisis among Pakistan’s security guards is not just a labour issue—it’s a human rights issue. Security guards are individuals tasked with protecting us, yet they are left unprotected by the government, their employers, and society at large.

It’s about time things change.

Enforce Existing Minimum Wage Laws

Despite having legal minimum wages set by the government, many private employers do not abide by them. This needs to change. Regular inspections need to be conducted to make sure that employers are following the minimum wage law.

Strict action should be taken against those who are not.

Introduce Mental Health Support

In the past few years, the growing suicide cases among security guard points towards their deteriorating mental health. Mental health counselling and support should be made mandatory for every minimum wage worker to help them during crises.

Implement Legal Working Hours and Paid Leave

The legal working hours for security guards is eight hours. Anything after that is overtime and should be paid likewise. Of employers are not paying overtime for extra hours, it is illegal.

It is important that employers maintain the designated work hours and implement paid leaves for when the employee is sick or needs an off.

Above all, we must consider security guards as essential service providers. They are there in times of need and crises to protect us from external threats. It is because of them that we sleep peacefully at night, assured that someone is out there, guarding our safety while we rest.

They must be treated with the same dignity and respect we give to each other. After all, the lives of Pakistan’s security guards cannot continue to be treated as expendable. Change is not only overdue—it is morally imperative.

Chelsea Make History with Grand Slam of European Titles

chelsea-make-history-with-grand-slam-of-european-titles

From heartbreak to history — Chelsea have pulled off something no club in European football has ever done before.

With a 4-1 comeback win over Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final, the Blues have now won every major UEFA trophy. That’s right — all five:
✅ Champions League
✅ Europa League
✅ UEFA Super Cup
✅ Cup Winners’ Cup (defunct)
✅ Conference League

It’s official: Chelsea are now royalty in Europe.

The Final That Became a Fairytale

On paper, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Chelsea under new boss Enzo Maresca. But on Wednesday night at the Wroclaw Stadium, it became something much more — a legacy-defining moment.

The night didn’t start well. In fact, it looked like another Chelsea false dawn.

chelsea-make-history-with-grand-slam-of-european-titles

Just nine minutes in, Real Betis’ Abde Ezzalzouli pounced on a sloppy mistake by Malo Gusto, curling in a stunning left-footer past Filip Jorgensen.

Betis were hungry, and their early aggression nearly paid off again with close efforts from Marc Bartra and Johnny Cardoso.

Chelsea had the ball, sure. But Betis had the bite. At halftime, the Blues looked rattled.

Enter Palmer. Exit Betis.

Whatever Maresca said at the break — it worked. But what really turned the tide? The substitutions.

He brought on captain Reece James to settle the defence and Cole Palmer to spark the attack. And Palmer? He turned the whole game on its head, in just five minutes.

In the 65th minute, the ex-Man City man whipped in a delicious cross for Enzo Fernandez, who headed home with finesse. Then, just moments later, Palmer fed Nicolas Jackson, who made it 2-1 with a cool close-range finish.

Just like that, Chelsea had taken control.

Finishing in Style

Real Betis, playing in their first-ever European final, began to unravel. Their early intensity faded. Chelsea, smelling blood, didn’t let up.

In the 83rd minute, Jadon Sancho — another impact sub — cut in from the right and finished from a tight angle, putting the game to bed. But they weren’t done.

chelsea-make-history-with-grand-slam-of-european-titles

Just before the final whistle, Moises Caicedo put the cherry on top with a sharp finish, making it 4-1 and turning a tense final into a statement victory.

Breaking the Spanish Spell

Let’s pause here for a second, because Chelsea didn’t just win a final. They broke a pattern.

Spanish clubs had owned European finals for over a decade. Before this match, La Liga sides had never lost a major European men’s final unless it was against another Spanish club.

Chelsea just changed that. For Chelsea fans, it’s been a rollercoaster few years. Since Todd Boehly’s consortium took over in 2022, there have been spending, sackings, and stumbles. But, this is a turning point.

Maresca’s men not only lifted a European trophy, but they also secured Champions League football for next season with a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

Government Announces Early Salaries And Pension Before Eid

government-announces-early-salary-and-pension-release-ahead-of-eid-ul-adha

Salaries and pensions for all provincial government employees will be paid by May 30, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government reported. This early payment is scheduled before the Eid-ul-Adha observances are anticipated.

All provincial departments and institutions were told by the Finance Department’s formal notice to ensure payments are made by the end of the working month. The department noted that June 1 is a Sunday, a non-working day.

Payments to be distributed before that.

This measure was implemented pending the formal announcement of the Eid-ul-Adha date, which depends on the sighting of the Zul-Hijjah moon.

On May 27 in Islamabad, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has planned a conference of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee’s chairman, will oversee the session. Scheduled to confirm when Zul-Hijjah—the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar—begins is this meeting

Simultaneously, the Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will assemble at their provincial base. Their responsibility is to assist in compiling moon sighting testimonies.

“Eid-ul-Adha will be commemorated on June 6,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, if the moon is seen on May 27.” The festival will be on June 7 if the crescent is not seen.

Moreover, an astronomer forecasts that May 28 will see the moon most readily visible. Most areas of the nation could observe Eid on June 7.

These changes enable government workers as well as the general public to get ready in time for the next religious festival.

SpaceX’s Starship Fails Mid-Flight in Ninth Test Mission

spacexs-starship-explodes-again-in-ninth-test-flight

SpaceX’s ninth test flight of the Starship rocket ended in failure on Wednesday. The rocket lost control and broke apart about 30 minutes into its uncrewed mission, according to US media reports.

The launch took place at SpaceX’s test site in Boca Chica, Texas. Reuters reported the spacecraft suffered a fuel leak in orbit. This caused it to spin out of control before re-entering Earth’s atmosphere, where it disintegrated.

SpaceX posted on social media, confirming the event as a “rapid unscheduled disassembly,” the company’s term for unexpected break-ups during flight.

“With a test like this, success comes from what we learn,” the post read. “Today’s test will help us improve Starship’s reliability as we seek to make life multiplanetary.”

Before losing control, the 123-meter rocket reached a higher altitude than in previous tests. This marked some progress toward SpaceX’s goal of building a reusable vehicle to transport people and cargo to the Moon and Mars.

This was the ninth integrated flight of Starship and its Super Heavy booster. Out of the previous eight launches, four had already ended in destruction. The last failure occurred on March 6, when the rocket exploded shortly after liftoff.

SpaceX’s Strategy to Colonise Mars

SpaceX’s strategy, described as “fail fast, learn fast,” is part of Elon Musk’s broader vision to colonise Mars. However, repeated failures have raised safety concerns. Debris has been reported across southern US states and parts of the Caribbean.

On the day of the launch, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed it had diverted commercial flights and paused departures at four major Florida airports, including Miami, due to falling debris. The FAA had doubled the airspace closure zone to 1,600 nautical miles. It coordinated with aviation bodies in Mexico, Cuba, the UK, the Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos.

Despite safety objections from conservation groups, the FAA increased SpaceX’s annual launch limit from 5 to 25. At the same time, ethics concerns surfaced. In March, the Campaign Legal Center filed a complaint over possible conflicts between the FAA and Musk’s Starlink company.

SpaceX is also partnered with NASA on its Artemis mission. If successful, Starship could become the most powerful rocket in history.

Sadia Iqbal Regains No.1 Spot In T20I Bowling Rankings

sadia-iqbal-tops-icc-womens-t20i-bowling-rankings

Pakistan spinner Sadia Iqbal has returned to the No.1 position in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings, according to the latest update by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday.

Iqbal moved up one place to reclaim the top ranking, which she held briefly during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup last year. Her rise comes after England’s top spinner Sophie Ecclestone missed the recent T20I series against the West Indies. Because of her absence, Ecclestone dropped to fourth place, and Iqbal moved to the top.

England’s fast bowler Lauren Bell made a big jump in the rankings. After taking seven wickets in the series, she moved up 13 places and is now ranked sixth.

Other English bowlers also improved their positions. Linsey Smith went up 37 places to reach 41st, and Issy Wong climbed 32 spots to joint-62nd.

In batting, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews was in great form. She scored 177 runs at an average of 88.50 across three matches in the England series and was named Player of the Series and moved up two places to become the second-best batter in T20Is. She is now just behind Australia’s Beth Mooney, who remains in first place.

Australia’s Tahlia McGrath moved down to third place because of Matthews’ strong performance.

England batters also made progress. Nat Sciver-Brunt moved up five places to 9th, Heather Knight went up seven places to joint-17th, and Sophia Dunkley climbed eight places to joint-29th.

Hayley Matthews also strengthened her position as the No.1 all-rounder in T20Is. Along with her batting, she also took three wickets in the series.

After Losing Rafales, India begins work on Stealth Fighter Jet Programme

india-begins-work-on-stealth-fighter-jet-programme

India has announced the development of its most advanced stealth fighter jet programme after losing six warplanes, including Rafale jets. The warplane were reportedly shot down by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) using Chinese-imported J-10C aircraft during intense hostilities on May 8.

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed this new initiative. A framework has been approved to build a next-generation fighter jet with stealth capabilities that can evade radar detection.

The state-run Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) has started inviting expressions of interest from defence firms to take part in the prototype development phase. Singh stated the aircraft would be a twin-engine, fifth-generation stealth jet.

IAF Needs New Jets As Fleet Shrinks

This new fighter is a crucial addition for the Indian Air Force (IAF). IAF is currently operating with 31 squadrons, significantly below its sanctioned strength of 42. Most of the IAF’s fleet includes Russian and ex-Soviet aircraft.

Meanwhile, China continues to expand its air force and Pakistan has inducted the advanced Chinese J-10C into its fleet.

Earlier in May, both Pakistan and India were involved in four days of intense military engagement involving fighter jets, drones, missiles and artillery. A ceasefire was later brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Reuters, this was the first time both nations used drones at such a large scale. Security officials and analysts suggested that it marked the start of a drone arms race in South Asia.

Private Sector Involvement in Defence Manufacturing

India plans to partner with a domestic firm for the stealth project. The Defence Ministry stated that the bidding process is open to both private and public sector companies, individually or as joint ventures.

In March, a defence panel suggested increasing private sector involvement in aircraft production to strengthen IAF capabilities and reduce dependency on state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).

Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh had earlier criticised HAL for delays in delivering the Tejas aircraft. HAL blamed global supply chain issues and delayed engine deliveries from U.S.-based GE.

“I will not surrender”: Imran Khan

even-if-they-keep-me-in-jail-for-life-i-will-not-surrender-imran-khan

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has categorically rejected any compromise, declaring he would rather “rot in jail for life” than bow to what he called “a system of Pharaohs and Yazidiyat.”

The powerful message, conveyed from Adiala Jail through his sister Aleema Khan, underscores the ex-premier’s continued resistance and calls for a nationwide movement beyond Islamabad-centric efforts.

“No Slavery, No Compromise”: Imran Khan

Addressing reporters outside the prison, Aleema Khan said Imran stood on his stance despite alleged harsh treatment in custody. “Whatever torture they inflict, I will never accept slavery,” he told her. “Even if they keep me in jail for life, I will not surrender.”

Aleema relayed that Imran Khan had only been allowed to speak to his children once in eight months, while routine privileges like book access and family meetings were being denied. “His personal doctors have been barred from seeing him, and court orders are being blatantly ignored,” she added.

She also dismissed rumours of a deal, calling such narratives “planted stories” meant to pacify public sentiment. “They say Americans have arrived and a deal is done. All of it is just to manage expectations,” she said.

PTI Chairman Hints at Possible Release Before Eid

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, speaking to journalists outside the Islamabad High Court alongside Senator Shibli Faraz, expressed optimism about Imran’s release before Eid-ul-Azha.

“We are exhausting all legal avenues,” Gohar said. “We’ve protested, raised the issue in Parliament, and approached the courts. The party is calm but determined.”

He acknowledged the frustration among supporters. “Our people are tired, even judges are tired of writing judgments. But we’re hopeful the judiciary will deliver justice.”

Faraz added that the acting Chief Justice of the IHC had personally assured that Imran Khan’s petitions would be taken up this week. “Blocking access to justice will only destabilise the country,” he warned.

In a related development, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore granted permission to the police to conduct polygraph and photogrammetric tests on Imran Khan again.

Police had requested the court’s intervention after Khan reportedly refused the tests on two occasions in writing and once verbally. The court ordered results to be submitted by June 9.

PTI is an Ideological Movement

Imran also sent a stern message to his party through Aleema, asserting that PTI is an ideological movement, not one reliant on “electables.” He warned against those “playing on both sides of the wicket,” stating they have no place in the party.

“Young people, not just the founder, are in jail. We got votes for our ideology, not personalities,” Aleema quoted him as saying.

Mansehra: Woman and 3-year-old Killed for ‘Honour’

mansehra-woman-and-3-year-old-killed-for-honour

On Tuesday, a woman and her three-year-old daughter were murdered in Mansehra district. Authorities described it as an “honour killing” because the woman had married by choice in 2021, defying her family’s wishes.

The attack happened in Mansehra Phulra. Police said the woman killed her daughter inside their home and then took her own life. She had married Roshan from the Bagal tribe through a court marriage. That decision caused a long-standing feud between the two families.

District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur confirmed the murder. He said police teams were already on the ground, actively searching for the suspects. Officers moved the bodies to a nearby hospital for autopsy.

The victim’s mother filed the complaint, and police registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on it.

Later, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nasir Mahmood Sati stated that the Regional Police Officer’s office. He said, “A heart-wrenching incident happened today due to old rancour in village Nallah, under Phulra police station’s jurisdiction. Someone brutally murdered a woman and her teenage daughter.”

Following this, DIG Sati ordered DPO Gandapur to arrest the suspects without delay. As a result, special squads with a large police force began search operations across the area.

DPO Gandapur is leading the efforts, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Oghi Nazir Khan, DSPs, SHOs, and other officials. Moreover, police have launched intelligence-based operations to catch the suspects quickly.

“Honour” killings usually involve relatives killing women or girls they believe have brought shame to the family.

Throughout 2024, these crimes remained a serious issue in Pakistan. Most stemmed from deeply rooted beliefs about family honour and control.

According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), 346 people were killed in the name of honour between January and November 2024. In 2023, the number reached 490. In 2022, it was even higher, with 590 cases reported.

Pakistanis Asked to Change All Social Media Passwords after Data Theft

global-data-breach-exposes-over-180-million-user-accounts

Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has asked all citizens to change their social media and online service passwords after a major global data breach exposed 184 million unique account credentials.

In an advisory released Monday, NCERT said usernames, passwords, emails and URLs linked to major platforms like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat were leaked. Accounts from the government, banking and healthcare sectors were also affected.

Infostealer Malware Behind the Leak

The leaked information was reportedly collected through “infostealer malware,” a type of harmful software that collects private data from infected devices. NCERT warned that this data was stored in plain text, without encryption. Moreover, it was made publicly available online without any authentication.

NCERT emphasised quick action to reduce risks and secure any affected accounts. They warned that the stolen data could be used in several harmful ways, including credential stuffing account takeovers, identity theft and ransomware attacks.

They also said this breach affects government portals, critical sectors and financial institutions. Patient data and internal business systems are also at risk.

Since the leak requires no special access, it is classified as “Data Breach, Credential Theft and Malware Dump” with a high threat level.

Action Steps and Cyber Safety Measures

NCERT stated, “Immediate action is recommended to mitigate associated risks and to secure systems potentially impacted by this breach.”

The agency urged everyone to change passwords and enable multi-factor authentication. Moreover, avoid storing passwords in emails or unprotected files.

They also suggested using password managers and tools to check if your data has been leaked. Organisations are advised to rotate passwords regularly. Also, follow the least privilege rule and train staff on phishing and secure practices.

To monitor threats, logging suspicious login attempts and using SIEM tools is encouraged. While there is no patch to fix the leak, protection must come from better password practices and security hygiene.

Pakistan Slams Modi’s Recent “Hate-Filled” Remarks

pakistan-slams-modis-hate-filled-remarks

Pakistan has strongly condemned recent comments made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling them “hate-filled and violent.”

The Foreign Office spokesperson said Modi’s remarks reflect a “reckless and provocative mindset,” warning that such statements violate diplomatic norms and go against the principles of the United Nations.

The spokesperson described the comments as a “deliberate attempt to stoke regional tensions.”

The Ministry reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to protect its borders and interests. “Pakistan is fully capable of countering any aggression,” the spokesperson said, adding that the country will continue to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any threats.

The spokesperson also urged the international community to take notice of India’s rhetoric, stressing that such language from a sitting head of government poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

“The purpose of Modi’s statement is to divert attention from India’s attempts at territorial changes and the grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement noted.

Despite the tense language from the Indian leadership, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to peace and cooperation. “Pakistan remains a leading partner in global peacekeeping under the United Nations and continues its active role in counter-terrorism efforts,” the spokesperson said.

Calling on New Delhi to reflect on rising extremism within India, Pakistan emphasised that peace in the region can only be achieved through mutual respect and adherence to international law.

Modi, during his speech in Gujarat, reportedly made direct threats to the people of Pakistan, further escalating concerns from Islamabad.

Iran’s Leader Khamenei Praises Pakistan’s Palestine Stance

Iran Leader Khamenei Praises Pakistan’s Palestine Stance

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, praised Pakistan for its firm and consistent stance on the Palestinian issue and called for deeper cooperation between the two countries.

He made these remarks on Monday in Tehran during a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation. Speaking on Pakistan’s role in the Muslim world, Khamenei stressed the need for joint action to stop the Zionist regime’s actions in Gaza.

In a statement shared on social media after the meeting, the Supreme Leader said, “Pakistan’s position on Palestine is admirable.” He acknowledged Pakistan’s strength in resisting repeated offers made to Muslim countries to normalise relations with Israel.

Despite these pressures, he said, Pakistan remained committed to its principles.

Khamenei shared his optimism about the future of the Muslim world, saying that recent global events had renewed this hope. He also welcomed the recent easing of tensions between Pakistan and India, expressing hope that both sides could find peaceful solutions to their issues.

He pointed out that while some global powers continue to spread war and division, unity among Muslim nations is vital. According to him, this unity is necessary for achieving peace and security in the region.

The Iran’s Supreme Leader also encouraged greater cooperation between Iran and Pakistan through the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). He called for efforts to revive and strengthen the organisation.

He reminded the delegation that Iran and Pakistan have long shared warm and brotherly ties. Even during difficult periods like the Iran-Iraq war, he noted, Pakistan stood by Iran and offered support.

Khamenei’s remarks reflected both appreciation and a call for action, reinforcing the idea that solidarity between Iran and Pakistan could play a major role in shaping the future of the region.

Rain and Thunderstorms Across Pakistan From Today

pmd-predicts-rain-and-thunderstorms-across-pakistan-from-today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts windstorms and rain-thunderstorms in the upper and central regions from the night of May 27 to May 31. Wet currents often reach these areas, and a westerly wave will enter the upper parts on May 28, causing heavy weather activity.

This pattern will bring windstorms, rain-thunderstorms, isolated heavy downpours, and hailstorms. Rawalpindi, Murree, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan will face these conditions.

In Punjab, the affected districts include Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sheikhupura.

Parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, and Waziristan, will also experience the weather.

Balochistan and South Punjab, including Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Vehari, and Dera Ismail Khan, may see windstorms with light to moderate rain-thunder activity.

This will go on from the evening of May 27 to May 30. Rain and thunder may not be continuous.

The PMD warns that windstorms, dust storms, hailstorms, and lightning may damage loose structures in northern and central areas, including Islamabad. People should secure electric poles, trees, cars, solar panels, and other vulnerable items.

Farmers should adjust their crop activities according to this forecast. Tourists and the public must exercise caution during this period.

Authorities must stay alert and act quickly to prevent any accidents or damage.

Is Saudi Arabia Really Lifting Its 73-Year-Old Alcohol Ban?

is-saudi-arabia-really-lifting-its-73-year-old-alcohol-ban

Last week, a report was picked up by international news platforms when a wine blog posted that Saudi Arabia has prepared to lift the 73-year-old alcohol ban in 600 tourist settings as the country prepares to host the 2034 soccer World Cup.

The blog, however, did not give a source for the information.

The news spread like fire in both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and outside, encouraging debate. People began questioning how far will Saudi Arabia go to please its international guests, particularly in light of the country’s religious significance.

The news has, however, been denied by officials.

The Alleged Claims

The report claimed that alcohol will be made available in five-star hotels, resorts, and designated zones within large-scale tourism projects such as NEOM, the Red Sea Project, and Sindalah Island.

Permitted alcoholic drinks included wine, beer and cider, with a maximum alcohol content of 20%. Spirits and other high-alcohol beverages will remain banned.

The lifting of the 73-year-old alcohol ban came as part of Vision 2030, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s wide-reaching plan to diversify the Saudi economy and reduce reliance on oil revenues.

The plan aimed to position the country as a major destination for international tourism and investment.

The Liberal King of the Ultra-Conservative Land

A few years ago if such a news had gone viral, no one would have believed it. The Holy Land, the land of God, His Prophet (PBUP) is considered sacred in Islam but in the recent years, many relaxations and developments have been made which were once unthinkable.

Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, in recent years, has pushed some reforms like ending a prohibition on allowing women to drive in 2017, easing some rules on sex segregation in public spaces and reducing the power of the religious police.

While some of these reforms are positive, many have resulted in outrageous debates throughout the world. In recent times, KSA hosted raves, fashion shows and even red carpets. Post this, the alleged news of the lifting of the alcohol ban seemed plausible.

However, a senior Saudi official has completely denied the authenticity of the news.

The only legit development in this matter came last year when an alcohol store opened in Riyadh to serve the non-Muslim diplomats. Prior to that, alcohol was only available through diplomatic channels or the black market.

‘Money Can Do Things For You’: Imad Wasim On Sikandar Raza’s Comeback

Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim had plenty to say about Sikandar Raza, who made a thrilling comeback to the Lahore Qalandars’ dressing room for the PSL 10 final against Quetta Gladiators.

Moments after the toss in the grand finale at Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium, Raza walked back into the Lahore Qalandars squad — fresh off a Test match in England — ready to play the biggest match of the tournament.

Money Can Make Things Happen: Imad Wasim

In a recent interview, when Imad Wasim was asked to describe Sikandar Raza in one word, the former Pakistan all-rounder didn’t play along with the game.

Instead, he dropped a reality check. “Like Shoaib Akhtar said — money can do things for you,” he stated.

‘Money Can Do Things For You’: Imad Wasim On Sikandar Raza’s Comeback

Imad, never one to shy away from brutal honesty, elaborated on the physical and financial demands that come with the territory of modern franchise cricket.

“If you’re getting paid, you’ll go. I travel a lot too. Sometimes, one match ends, and the next day you’re playing another. I’ve travelled 24 hours straight and gone directly into a match.”

Raza’s Return: From Nottingham to Gaddafi

Let’s break it down: Sikandar Raza had taken partial leave from the Qalandars to play in Zimbabwe’s historic Test match against England in Nottingham. That game ended late Saturday night (Pakistan time).

The PSL 10 final? Sunday evening in Lahore. The odds of making it in time were slim.

But somehow, Raza made the impossible possible, rejoining the Qalandars squad just minutes after the toss. No warm-up. No downtime. Just sheer commitment. And that’s not all. He wasn’t just there to show up — he was there to win.

Imad Wasim Praises Sikandar Raza

Despite pointing out the commercial reality of modern cricket, Imad was all praise when it came to Raza’s attitude and performances.

“Sikandar Raza is a great player — he’s been performing consistently around the world for the last couple of years. He even won the ILT20 final for his team.”

“He’s a wonderful human being and a proper team player. I’ve played both with and against him… you can definitely call him a match-winner,” Imad added.

Now that’s respect. And it’s well earned. Raza has quietly carved out a reputation as one of the most dependable all-rounders in world cricket, playing clutch roles in various leagues.

Mickey Arthur Reveals Why Pakistan Cricket is in Turmoil

mickey-arthur-reveals-reason-behind-pakistan-cricket-turmoil

The former Pakistan head coach, Mickey Arthur, who was at the helm during some of the team’s most thrilling recent moments, isn’t holding back anymore. In a heartfelt and honest chat with a local sports platform, Arthur has voiced deep concern over the constant chopping and changing within Pakistan cricket — and how it’s damaging the team’s growth.

“Instability is What Brings Things Down”

Straight to the point, Arthur didn’t sugarcoat his words.

“It’s a fact. I certainly believe that this instability is what brings things down. Instability in any organisation is not ideal—an unstable environment does not produce high performance,” he said.

Pakistan cricket has been through a coaching merry-go-round in recent months, with resignations, reshuffles, and sudden U-turns making headlines more often than actual cricket.

Gillespie, Kirsten, Nielsen — And the Fallout

One of the biggest shockwaves came with the unexpected resignations of Jason Gillespie, Gary Kirsten, and Tim Nielsen. These are heavyweight names in world cricket, and their swift exits left fans and insiders equally stunned.

Mickey Arthur himself couldn’t believe it.

“I was very disappointed because I had spoken to them about coaching Pakistan. They had all reached out to me, and I told them it’s an exhilarating experience—you’d love it,” he said.

“So yes, I was really disappointed. I couldn’t believe things changed so quickly. I won’t get into the ins and outs of what happened, but Pakistan at that point had some very, very good coaches. Those guys are excellent professionals,” he added.

The Coaching Carousel Continues

In case you’ve lost track (and we wouldn’t blame you), here’s the recent coaching rollercoaster in a nutshell:

  • Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie both exit.
  • Aqib Javed takes over in an interim capacity.
  • Now, Mike Hesson steps in as the new white-ball head coach.

Love for Babar & Rizwan Persists

Despite all the noise, Mickey Arthur still holds firm faith in some of Pakistan’s biggest names. Babar Azam? He’s a no-brainer in Arthur’s XI.

“I would always have Babar Azam in the team. I think he’s a wonderful player. The Babar I know is absolute class,” he stated.

It’s a timely vote of confidence, especially after Babar’s form and leadership have been under intense scrutiny in recent months.

As for Mohammad Rizwan, Arthur sees him as the adaptable team man.

“If Rizwan is your best wicketkeeper, then he has a role to play. He can adapt his game to fit wherever the team needs him,” he added.

Mike Hesson Reaffirms His Faith in Babar and Rizwan

changes-in-pakistan-cricket-after-t20-world-cup-2024-salman-butt-backs-babar-azam-and-rizwan-amid-tough-times-mike-hesson

A new chapter has officially begun in Pakistan cricket, and Mike Hesson is at the heart of it. Appointed as Pakistan’s new head coach, the experienced Kiwi hasn’t wasted any time laying down his vision.

In his first major media interaction in Lahore, Hesson made it clear: Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan remain vital cogs in the white-ball setup, despite recent shake-ups.

Backing the Big Guns

Let’s be honest — when Babar and Rizwan were dropped for the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year, fans were left scratching their heads. Was it a permanent shift? Or just part of a bigger experiment?

Mike Hesson cleared the air.

“Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are top-class players and integral to our white-ball plans,” he said confidently. “There are areas where they can improve, and they’re actively working on those.”

That’s the kind of backing senior players need — firm, fair, and forward-thinking. While both batters have faced criticism at times for strike rates and conservatism in T20s, their experience and quality remain undeniable.

The New Captaincy Shuffle

Another headline-grabber earlier this year was the captaincy switch. Mohammad Rizwan, who had only led Pakistan in two T20I series, was replaced by Salman Ali Agha.

A bold call? Maybe.

But it’s clear that the PCB is setting the tone for a more aggressive, dynamic future — and Hesson is aligned with that.

“We want to play aggressive cricket, but also smart cricket,” he said. “We’re very clear about the brand of cricket we want to play.”

Eyes on Bangladesh

Hesson’s first assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, kicking off on May 28 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. And while Pakistan might be favourites on paper, the new coach is not underestimating the opposition.

“They’re a strong side and play good cricket. We will not take them lightly,” he warned.

Mike Hesson

That’s the kind of mindset you want from your head coach — respectful, but hungry.

With the T20 World Cup looming next year, Hesson isn’t just thinking short-term. He’s already focused on building momentum, finding the right combinations, and developing a squad that can challenge the world’s best.

“We’re fully focused on preparing well for the World Cup and optimistic about delivering a strong performance,” he said with conviction.

Final Word

Mike Hesson brings with him a wealth of experience and a reputation for tactical sharpness. His early comments show clarity, honesty, and belief — in both the process and the players.

As the Babar-Rizwan era gets a second wind under new guidance, fans have every reason to be excited. If Hesson can blend aggression with control, and back youth while respecting experience, Pakistan might just become a serious force heading into the World Cup.
