India, Pakistan, and the Path Toward Nuclear Disarmament

India, Pakistan, and the Path Toward Nuclear Disarmament
India, Pakistan, and the Path Toward Nuclear Disarmament

In 1945, when the US dropped a uranium bomb on Hiroshima during World War II, and simultaneously a larger plutonium bomb over Nagasaki three days later, the world shook. Estimated deaths of 140,000 and 74,000, respectively, were reported along with an increased rate of cancer and chronic illness among survivors. It’s not like the world had never seen wars or conflicts, but it had never seen something so drastic.

Thus, the United Nations proposed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and promote peaceful nuclear energy use.

What is the Treaty of Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)?

Signed in 1968, the Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is one of the most important international agreements in modern history. It was enforced in 1970 as a result of the Cold War to stop the spread of nuclear weapons and ensure that nuclear technology is used only for peaceful purposes. The main objectives of the treaty include:

  • Stop countries that don’t have nukes from building or buying them.
  • Stop countries that already have them from helping others get them.
  • Allow the nation to only use nuclear technology for energy, health, and research.
  • Inspect regular inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to ensure that no one is secretly building weapons.
  • Ensuring that nuclear-armed countries work toward reducing and eventually eliminating their nuclear arsenals.

  • In the long term, create a world free of nuclear weapons.

191 nations throughout the world signed the treaty, including some of the biggest nuclear-armed nations in the world, like the United Stated, the United Kingdom, France, China and Russia. However some nuclear powers refused to sign it, including Israel, South Korea and two very familiar names: Pakistan and India.

Why did Pakistan and India refuse to sign the NPT?

Pakistan didn’t always want to refuse the treaty; in fact, for the longest time, it was enthusiastic about arms control and disarmament. But things changed quickly, and it changed its strategy and refused to sign the NPT. The main reason behind this shift was security. During the Sino-Indian War in 1962, USA’s aid to India despite the country’s non-alignment with the western bloc, created distrust and disappointment. Pakistan began to realise that the US might be a greater support to India than it was Pakistan.

This distrust was further solidified when India and the US signed a treaty under which the US supplied uranium to India’s Power Station, thus helping India in becoming a nuclear power. And when India tested its nuclear weapons, Pakistan viewed it as a subsequent rejection of proposals for a nuclear-weapon-free zone in South Asia.

On May 18, 1974, India claimed that it has successfully tested a nuclear device, codenamed “Smiling Buddha
On May 18, 1974, India claimed that it had successfully tested a nuclear device, codenamed “Smiling Buddha.

On the other hand, India viewed the treaty as biased, dividing the world into ‘nuclear haves’ and ‘nuclear have-nots.’ Thus, the refusal of one country, either Pakistan or India, naturally put the other in a complicated position. Given the history of the two countries, neither could risk it.

Current Tensions and the Constant Nuclear Scare

As of 2025, India and Pakistan are once again on the brink of war. It’s not the first time the two nations are at a crossroads, threatening each other, promising a destruction the world would see. Considering that both nations are nuclear-armed, this threat becomes a lot more serious and rather scary for those who reside within the borders.

What if it comes down to it?

India and Pakistan have always been head-to-head when it came to nuclear weapons. They both became nuclear powers in 1998, and currently hold almost the same amount of nuclear arsenal.

Pakistan: Approximately 170 nuclear warheads

India: Approximately 175 nuclear warheads

While flaunting nuclear power might seem like a show of strength, history reminds us that the adrenaline rush is fleeting, and the consequences can last far longer. It took 30 years for Hiroshima and Nagasaki to fully recover because the radiation from the bombs contaminated the environment for decades.

Now, imagine for a second that India and Pakistan, in their rage, choose to take the nuclear path. What’s at stake? Densely populated cities like Delhi and Karachi might be the first target, and over 1 million people could be killed instantly. A Princeton simulation in 2020 predicted that if India and Pakistan used 100 nuclear weapons, there would be over 100 million deaths. Yes, let that sink in. Cities would be erased, be it Mumbai or Islamabad, significant rivers like the Indus and Ganga will be forever contaminated, fallout clouds will travel hundreds of kilometres a nuclear winter could even follow. Soot and smoke will block the sunlight, and crops worldwide will be affected, causing famine and food shortages.

It will no longer be a war between two nations; the entire world will be affected if it chooses to stay silent.

Is Nuclear Disarmament the Answer?

Yes. Nuclear weapons are built to scare enemies, but who is to guarantee that one will not use them? In World War II, the United States used it against Japan, and the world saw what followed. Robert J. Oppenheimer, the father of the nuclear bomb, stated, after seeing the horrifying consequences of his doing,

“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

The quote highlights the destruction of the bomb and the profound realisation that followed, a little too late.

Before India and Pakistan suffer the same realisation, it’s about time the two sign the Treaty of the Non- Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and follow suit.

Lux Style Awards Cancelled Over Security Fears

Lux Style Awards Cancelled Over Security Fears
Lux Style Awards Cancelled Over Security Fears

The glitz, the glamour, the red carpet moments; you’ll see none of it this year. Just hours before the Lux Style Awards 2025 had to illuminate Lahore, the plug was pulled. In a devastating announcement, the sudden cancellation of one of Pakistan’s most highly anticipated entertainment evenings was announced.

What Happened on May 7, 2025?

Already waiting at the scene were guests as the announcement took place around lunchtime. A brief but urgent notice was given by the organisers claiming “unavoidable security risks.” Shock, disappointment, and confusion. Guests, consisting of top stars and media men, were shocked. Some were even on the red carpet when it happened.

Rising Tensions Between Pakistan and India

The conflict between Pakistan and India worsened after India accused Pakistan of causing the Pahalgam attack. Following the baseless accusations, Indian forces conducted airstrikes on the morning of May 7, which claimed the lives of 31 civilians, including children. The sad event further fueled regional instability.

The very real threat of further escalation meant that having a public event like LSA became a serious safety risk. Organisers realised they couldn’t risk gambling with lives.

Why was the Event Cancelled Last Minute?

While the setting was ripe for celebration, the focus turned to making sure everyone involved, celebrities and crew members alike, was safe. The local authorities sounded an alarm that resulted in the cancellation of the event, insiders say. There were several intelligence warnings of potential disruptions.

From bomb threats to fears of targeted violence, the threat was just too great. Even strict security couldn’t promise complete safety.

Impact on Artists, Nominees, and the Industry

For others, particularly new nominees, this was a gut-wrenching defeat. Months of build-up, preparation, and emotional investment down the drain.

Stars, producers, and designers took to social media to show solidarity. The majority were in agreement that safety is more important than celebration, but the despair could not be helped.

Will the Event Be Rescheduled?

Until now, the team has not yet confirmed a new date. In their announcement, they only mentioned the cancellation “until further notice.”

Dubai or Karachi are also rumoured to host the rescheduled event, but there is no definite plan announced.

As there is increasing instability in the region, the organisers of events may have to rethink how and where such events are to be organised in the future.

The cancellation of the Lux Style Awards 2025 is more than a lost show; it’s an indication of the tumultuous times we live in. As much as glitz and celebration were anticipated, the decision by organisers to prioritise safety is a sobering reminder that peace is the ultimate prize we all need to work towards. Let’s look forward to better, safer times ahead—for art, for artists, and for all.

Pakistan Ministry, KPT X Accounts Hacked Amid Pak-India Political Tensions

Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) have confirmed that their official accounts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) were hacked overnight. In an official statement, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Economic Affairs clarified that any posts made during the breach were unauthorised and do not reflect the ministry’s official stance or policies.

A tweet was posted from the hacked account, which was not aligned with any official communication. No further details were provided about the content of the post.

Increasing Cyber Threats Amid Pak-India Tensions

This cyber incident occurred just two days after Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team issued a red alert regarding increasing cyber threats. The alert was issued in response to the growing military tensions between Pakistan and India. It warned that hackers might attempt to disrupt national networks and spread disinformation through fake messages, phishing and fabricated news stories.

The ministry confirmed that efforts are in progress to recover the compromised accounts and investigate the breach further.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after a deadly attack took place on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), resulting in the deaths of 26 individuals. India blamed Pakistani elements without presenting any proof, a claim Pakistan rejected.

India then initiated “Operation Sindoor,” targeting several sites in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), leading to the death of 31 civilians, including women and children and injuries to 71 others.

In retaliation, the Pakistan Army launched an operation that downed five Indian fighter jets—three Rafales, one MiG-29, one SU-series aircraft and one Israeli-made Heron drone over Bhatinda, Jammu, Akhnoor, Srinagar, and Avantipur.

Following this, India deployed drones into Pakistani airspace. The Pakistan Army reported intercepting and shooting down 77 Israeli-made Herop drones aimed at both civilian and military targets.

Is Bill Gates Giving $200 Billion of His Fortune to the Poor?

Is Bill Gates Giving $200 Billion of His Fortune to the Poor?
Is Bill Gates Giving $200 Billion of His Fortune to the Poor?

In the world of philanthropy, few names are as influential and frequently cited as Bill Gates. As the co-founder of Microsoft and one of the wealthiest individuals on the planet, Gates has long attracted attention for his charitable giving through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. However, persistent rumours claim that Bill Gates is giving $200 billion of his fortune directly to the poor. Is this claim true? To an extent.

Bill Gates Giving $200bn of His Fortune

It is true that Bill Gates did indeed pledge on Thursday to give away $200 billion. But this will be done via his charitable foundation by 2045. In simpler words, Gates is not handing out cash to individuals, but he is dedicating an extraordinary portion of his wealth to solving the world’s most pressing problems through long-term, high-impact philanthropy.

Mr Gates said his eponymous foundation has already given $100bn (£75bn) towards health and development projects, and that he expects it will spend another $200bn, depending on markets and inflation, over the next two decades. Gates said he believed that this money will help achieve several of his goals, such as eradicating diseases like polio and malaria, ending preventable deaths among women and children and reducing global poverty.
“People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that ‘he died rich’ will not be one of them,” he wrote in a blog post on Thursday.

He said he has been inspired to give away money by investor Warren Buffett and other philanthropists, however critics of his foundation say Mr Gates uses its charitable status to avoid tax and that it has undue influence over the global health system.

A Smarter Way to Give

Some critics argue that because Gates is not handing out money directly to the poor, he isn’t truly redistributing wealth. But this view ignores the power of systemic giving. Instead of providing temporary relief, Gates focuses on long-term solutions to root causes of poverty, disease, and inequality. The foundation has poured tens of billions into global health initiatives, such as eradicating polio, fighting malaria, and improving vaccine access. It also supports education reform, agricultural development, and clean sanitation efforts in some of the poorest regions on Earth.

This kind of philanthropy does more than help individuals—it transforms entire systems. By funding scientific research, building healthcare infrastructure, and supporting innovations that governments and markets overlook, Gates’ approach aims to make enduring changes that benefit millions.

Bill Gates Criticised Elon Musk and Trump

It seems like this pledge wasn’t any short of criticism either. The latest pledge is a sharp response to what Gates views as a global retreat from foreign aid, citing cuts by major donors including the U.S., U.K., and France.

Without naming him directly, Gates criticised former U.S. President Donald Trump’s withdrawal of international health funding, calling into question whether wealthy nations will continue to support vulnerable populations. The U.S. cuts have been overseen by Musk, who has publicly bragged about feeding the U.S. Agency for International Development “into the wood chipper,” and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Around 80% of USAID programmess are set to be cut; the agency spent $44 billion worldwide in fiscal 2023.

“The picture of the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one,” Gates told the Financial Times. In this same interview with the Financial Times, Mr Gates raised the issue of cancelled grants to a hospital in Gaza Province, Mozambique, which Donald Trump erroneously claimed was funding condoms “for Hamas” in the Gaza Strip. Mr Musk later acknowledged the claim was wrong and said “we will make mistakes,” however the cost-cutting continued.

At least Someone Cares About the Poor

Yes, Bill Gates is not giving $200 billion directly to the poor. But it must also be noted that this doesn’t make his cause any less significant. Bill gates is one of the most prominent philanthropists in history, and his foundation plays a significant role in addressing global issues.

That said, we should be cautious about romanticising the billionaire saviour narrative. While philanthropy can supplement efforts to reduce poverty and promote health, it cannot and should not replace the responsibility of governments and societies to build just and equitable systems.

US won’t Intervene in India-Pakistan Conflict, Says JD Vance

Vice President JD Vance firmly stated that the United States will not get involved in the rising conflict between Pakistan and India. In an interview with Fox News, he said, “We’re not going to get involved in the middle of a war that has nothing to do with America’s ability to handle it.” He also added, “It is fundamentally none of our business,” and noted that the US is only asking both sides to calm tensions.

His comments came after a sharp escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations. On the night of May 6–7, Indian forces carried out missile, air, and drone attacks. The strikes hit several locations in Pakistan’s Punjab Province and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. These included Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.

According to the Pakistani military, the attacks killed at least 31 civilians, including women and children. They warned the actual number may be higher. Additionally, the strikes damaged several mosques and a hydropower plant.

In response, the Pakistan Army launched a counterattack. It shot down five Indian fighter jets and one combat drone. A military spokesperson confirmed the targets included three Rafale jets, one MiG-29, one SU-series aircraft, and an Israeli-made Heron drone.

After the attacks, Pakistan’s National Security Committee authorised military retaliation. Officials called India’s actions “unprovoked aggression” and accused it of deliberately targeting civilians.

Moreover, Pakistan’s military reported that it destroyed 30 Israeli-made Herop drones sent by India on Thursday. The Indian military targeted both civilian and military sites with the drones.

ISPR stated that Pakistani forces intercepted and brought them down over multiple cities. These included Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Attock, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Ghotki, and the Malir district of Karachi.

Leo XIV Becomes the New Pope: Here’s What We Know About Him

Leo XIC Becomes the New Pope_ Here’s What We Know About Him
Leo XIC Becomes the New Pope_ Here’s What We Know About Him

With a puff of white smoke, the Vatican announced a new pope of the Catholic church, US-Peruvian citizen Cardinal Robert Prevost. Thousands of people in St Peter’s Square chanted in chorus the name adopted by Robert Prevost as he ascended to the papacy as the new leader for the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.

In his first words as pope, Leo XIV spoke fondly of his predecessor Francis. “We still hear in our ears the weak but always courageous voice of Pope Francis, who blessed us,” he said. “United and hand in hand with God, let us advance together,” he told cheering crowds. It was a closely watched moment, with red-hatted cardinals poking out of nearby windows to catch their first glimpse of the newly minted pontiff.

Experts say Pope Leo is likely to carry forward the legacy of his predecessor, Francis, while forging his own path.

A Life of Service Across Continents

Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Robert Prevost embarked on a life of religious dedication early on. After joining the Order of Saint Augustine, he pursued theological studies at Villanova University and the Catholic Theological Union. He later earned advanced degrees in canon law from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. His missionary work took him to Peru, where he served extensively from the mid-1980s through the late 1990s, eventually becoming the Bishop of Chiclayo. In recognition of his deep ties to the region, he acquired Peruvian citizenship in 2015.

Although he moved to Peru three years later, he returned regularly to the US to serve as a pastor and a priest in his home city. He spent 10 years as a local parish pastor and as a teacher at a seminary in Trujillo in north-western Peru. He became archbishop in January 2023 and within a few months Pope Francis made him a cardinal.

The new pope is well known to cardinals because of his high-profile role as the Dicastery for Bishops in Latin America. In this role he had the task of selecting and supervising bishops.

Phil Pullella (a Vatican expert who has covered the papacy for more than four decades) said that the background of Robert offers a degree of continuity with Francis. “He knows about poverty in Latin America,” Pullella said of Leo XIV. “So, he’s not the same thing as if they had elected some cardinal of New York, for example.”

A Life of Service Across Continents
A Life of Service Across Continents

A Bridge-Builder in a Divided Church

Pope Leo XIV is widely regarded as a centrist and unifying figure within the Church. His leadership style reflects a blend of progressive values and measured dialogue aimed at unifying a fractured global Church.

He is expected to continue many of Pope Francis’s reformist initiatives, particularly those emphasising outreach to the poor and environmental stewardship. However, his reserved public stance on divisive issues, such as women’s roles and traditional liturgies, leaves some uncertainty about his direction.

Pope Leo XIV’s election was met with widespread acclaim, reflecting his reputation for humility, pastoral focus and efforts to build bridges within the Church during challenging times. His life story of growing up in a modest Chicago suburb to working in remote Peruvian villages underscores his connection to both the American and broader Catholic communities.

What are Pope Leo’s views?

Early attention will focus on Leo XIV’s pronouncements to see whether he will continue his predecessor’s reforms in the Roman Catholic Church. Prevost is believed to have shared Francis’ views on migrants, the poor and the environment.

A former roommate of his, Reverend John Lydon, described Prevost to the BBC as “outgoing,” “down to earth”, and “very concerned with the poor.” On his personal background, Prevost told Italian network Rai before his election that he grew up in a family of immigrants.

“I was born in the United States… But my grandparents were all immigrants, French, Spanish… I was raised in a very Catholic family, both of my parents were very engaged in the parish,” he said.

Sexual Abuse Scandals

Although Prevost was born in the US, the Vatican described him as the second pope from the Americas (Francis was from Argentina). During his time in Peru, he was unable to escape the sexual abuse scandals that have clouded the Church, even though his diocese has fervently denied he has been involved in any attempted cover-up.

LGBT Views

The new Pope’s LGBT views are unclear, but some groups, including the conservative College of Cardinals, believe he may be less supportive than Francis. Leo XIV has shown support for a declaration from Francis to permit blessings for same-sex couples and others in “irregular situations.” He also added that bishops must interpret such directives in accordance with local contexts and cultures.

Views on Climate Change

Speaking last year about climate change, Cardinal Prevost said that it was time to move “from words to action”. He called on mankind to build a “relationship of reciprocity” with the environment.

Let’s See What the Era of the New Pope Holds

When Pope Leo XIV will begin his papacy, he will likely face significant challenges. These include internal Church divisions, the continuing abuse scandal and declining church attendance in the West. However, his extensive experience, cultural sensitivity and commitment to unity position him well to navigate these complexities.

In his first public appearance, Pope Leo XIV offered a prayer at the altar and later knelt in private reflection, embodying the humility and dedication that many hope will define his papacy.

Pakistani Cricketers Unite in Voice Amid Rising Tensions with India

As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, prominent voices from the world of Pakistani cricket have stepped forward—not with bats and balls, but with messages of unity, strength, and resilience.

At a time when the nation grapples with security concerns and diplomatic strain, cricketers have reminded us that patriotism isn’t limited to uniforms or borders. Sometimes, a heartfelt word carries just as much power.

Rizwan’s Roar: “We’ve Grown Up with Bullets and Blasts”

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan delivered a statement that felt more like a war cry, grounded not in hate, but in painful truth.

“Pakistan has been the victim of terrorism for a long time. Our generations grew up hearing the sounds of bullets and blasts. A nation like this cannot be defeated,” he posted on X.

Rizwan’s words struck a chord. For a generation raised amid conflict, his message wasn’t just patriotic—it was deeply personal.

“Every war imposed on them makes them more united, vigilant, and strong,” he added. It’s a reminder that resilience isn’t just a trait; it’s Pakistan’s reality.

Shahid Afridi Fires Back: “Let the World Bear Witness”

You could always count on Shahid Afridi to call it like it is. Lala didn’t hold back, labelling India’s recent move as calculated aggression.

“One side chose to violate the territorial sovereignty of its neighbour under the cover of darkness—deliberately targeting civilians, including women and children,” he posted.

He applauded Pakistan’s response, calling it “measured and resolute”—a show of professionalism and moral clarity, not retaliation. In a time when misinformation floods social feeds, Afridi’s directness hit hard—and hit home.

Rumman Raees: “Pakistan Zindabad, InshAllah”

Former fast bowler Rumman Raees wore his emotions on his sleeve, saluting the Pakistan Air Force and the armed forces for standing tall against India.

“Super proud of resilient people of my Country, the Armed forces, specially the rulers of the skies, the Pakistan Air Force,” he posted.

“The whole nation backs you for your responses and defense against the evil of tyrants. Pakistan kal, aaj, aur kal, hamesha Zindabad InshAllah.”

It wasn’t just a tweet. It was a prayer, a promise, and a proud declaration all rolled into one.

Unity Beyond the Field

In the face of tension, cricket has once again proven it’s more than a sport in Pakistan. It’s a mirror of the nation’s spirit. These players, who once rallied fans in stadiums, are now rallying hearts across the country.

This isn’t about runs or wickets. It’s about belonging, defending, and believing in your people, your flag, and your truth.

IPL 2025 Suspended Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

ipl-2025-suspended-amid-india-pakistan-tensions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended IPL 2025 with immediate effect. The announcement follows mounting cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, which escalated dramatically over the last 48 hours.

While the IPL has seen its share of controversies, postponements, and even a full season in the UAE, this sudden halt, right in the middle of the action, has thrown everyone off balance.

A Match Abandoned, A Stadium Evacuated

The real chaos began in Dharamsala, where the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals clash was underway on Thursday. Midway through the first innings, one of the floodlights mysteriously shut down at the scenic Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium.

Before fans could figure out what was happening, security forces ordered a full evacuation of the venue. That’s not something you see every day in cricket.

With panic spreading and no clear answers, it became evident that this wasn’t a technical glitch or a random power failure. Something bigger was brewing.

Following the Dharamsala scare, flight operations in the region were suspended. Both Punjab and Delhi squads — along with their staff — were evacuated by a special train to Delhi the next morning. Yes, a train in the middle of an IPL season.

By that point, BCCI had seen enough. Safety concerns were real. Tensions were rising. And with more matches lined up in high-profile venues like Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Jaipur, the board made the tough call.

What’s Left Hanging?

As it stands, 58 matches have been played, including the Dharamsala game that was abandoned.

12 league-stage games remain across venues like Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoffs were scheduled in Hyderabad and Kolkata, but for now, that’s all up in the air.

The BCCI has confirmed that they’ll consult with franchises, broadcasters, and security agencies before deciding on the next steps.

PSL 10 Shifts to UAE Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

PSL 10 Shifts to UAE Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

What was supposed to be a thrilling wrap-up to PSL 10 in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Lahore will now unfold under the lights of the United Arab Emirates. Yes, you read that right — the final eight matches, including the playoffs and the all-important final, are officially relocated to the UAE.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision on Friday, citing rising tensions between Pakistan and India as the key reason.

Why the Sudden Change?

According to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the shift was unavoidable after what he called an “extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act” targeting the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium — an incident that understandably sparked major concerns over player safety.

“The PCB has always stood by the position that politics and sports need to be kept apart,” Naqvi stated.

“However, in view of the extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act… we have decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE so that our domestic and foreign players — our precious guests — are safe.”

In a world where cricket often becomes collateral damage in larger political games, the board’s priority was crystal clear: protect the players, protect the game.

Safety First: A Call for Mental and Physical Well-being

Mohsin Naqvi didn’t stop there. He also addressed something we often forget — the mental toll such events can take on athletes.

“As a responsible organisation… it was important for us to ensure the mental well-being of all players participating in the HBL PSL.”

That’s a refreshing and much-needed perspective. Cricket is more than bat and ball — it’s families watching, players under pressure, and professionals trying to perform in high-stakes environments. Throw in political threats, and it’s too much to ask anyone to just “focus on the game.”

What’s Next? Dates, Venues & Playoff Buzz

The PCB has confirmed that the new schedule and UAE venues will be announced soon. But here’s what we do know: the following matches are left in the PSL 10:

  • Karachi Kings v Peshawar Zalmi
  • Peshawar Zalmi v Lahore Qalandars
  • Islamabad United v Karachi Kings
  • Multan Sultans v Quetta Gladiators
  • Qualifier
  • Eliminator 1
  • Eliminator 2
  • Final

That’s eight games, including four do-or-die knockout clashes, which now come with an added layer of intrigue. Will the shift to UAE conditions favour spin-heavy teams? Will travel impact rhythm? We’ll soon find out.

Glutathione Cream: All You Need to Know

Glutathione Cream: All You Need to Know
Glutathione Cream: All You Need to Know

In Pakistan’s increasingly beauty-conscious society, the demand for “fairer” and “glowing” skin has led to a surge in whitening and brightening products. Among them, glutathione cream has quickly climbed the ranks. But this one is more than just a trend; it has become a staple in many skincare routines due to its powerful and proven results. Dubbed the ‘master antioxidant’ all over social media, the ingredient is said to be the core reason for transforming the skin colour of some of the biggest celebrities.

While some hype feels exaggerated, there’s no denying that glutathione is a “clinically backed” antioxidant and offers real skin benefits beyond mere complexion lightening. Glutathione cream can indeed work wonders, but only when used wisely and with realistic expectations.

What is Glutathione?

Before we see how beneficial Glutathione cream is, it is important to first understand the ingredient itself. Glutathione is the master antioxidant found inside the human body. In its natural state, it’s a water-soluble tri-peptide that helps with bodily processes and functions. It is made up of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine and is naturally created in our body’s liver. It plays a key role in many bodily functions, from strengthening our immune system and building tissues to creating protein and shielding cells from oxidative stress.

In skincare, it’s most recognised for its melanin-inhibiting properties, which contribute to a brighter and more even complexion.

As a potent, non-enzymatic antioxidant, it defends against environmental damage by blocking the enzyme that triggers melanin production to restore the skin’s surface and brighten complexions. Research even shows that glutathione in skin can interrupt an enzyme within the skin’s surface layers that triggers hyperpigmentation. It’s also believed that the slow depletion of glutathione within our skin (which unfortunately, speeds up rapidly during menopause) is a leading cause of visible signs of ageing.

The fact that our bodies produce it naturally is a good starting point. This is an affirmation that it’s not some foreign chemical being forced onto your skin. But that solely doesn’t make it a “miracle” cure, as some brands may suggest.

Is Glutathione Cream Healthy for Skin?

In short, yes. The ingredient is a natural component of skin and is healthy when applied topically (through your skin care regimen). Plus, it can also be consumed orally to target uneven skin tone.

Studies have also shown that oral application is much more successful at assisting uneven skin tone. Glutathione cream’s oral application has received the designation “generally recognised as safe” from the United States Food and Drug Administration.

Even dermatologists praise it for ‘injection-like results, without the injection’.

Benefits of Glutathione Cream

With consistent usage, Glutathione cream can have several skin benefits.

  1. Brightens Skin and Fades Pigmentation: Glutathione’s primary appeal lies in its skin-brightening effects. And yes, it is no lie, especially for those battling hyperpigmentation, melasma, or dull skin caused by pollution and sun exposure (very common issues in Pakistan). Glutathione cream inhibits melanin synthesis capabilities that can help tackle such issues.
  2. Antioxidant Shield: With urban pollution levels rising in cities like Lahore and Karachi, the antioxidant power of glutathione helps combat pollution damage by enhancing the skin’s protective functions. This not only helps prevent Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) but also enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture, potentially reducing premature ageing signs. That’s a serious bonus we often overlook in the chase for lighter skin.
  3. Enhances Skin Firmness: Studies suggest that glutathione cream supports collagen production and prevents the activity of an enzyme called tyrosinase to reduce melanin production and helps lighten dark spots to promote a more even tone. It won’t replace your dermatologist’s laser, but consistent use can visibly improve texture.
  4. Boosts Hydration: Most glutathione creams include ingredients like vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, or botanical extracts, which add moisture and improve the overall glow. This makes it a multitasker, not just a fairness product.

Top Glutathione Creams Available in Pakistan

The demand for glutathione creams in Pakistan has led to a variety of products available both online and in physical stores. Some notable options include:

All these can be found on reputable platforms like Daraz, Dvago and official brand websites. However, always check for product authenticity before buying.

Some Drawbacks and Considerations

Despite the benefits and the clinically proven results, there is no doubt that every cream or beauty product will come with certain drawbacks and safety considerations. Here are some for the Glutathione cream.

  • Skin Reactions: Though generally safe, skin irritation or allergic reactions are possible. Avoid if you have sensitive skin or use it with harsh actives like retinol. A patch test is non-negotiable regardless.
  • Chances of Inconsistent Results: Let’s be honest: not everyone will get glass skin. Glutathione creams don’t work the same for everyone, and their efficacy depends on factors like skin type, sun exposure and even diet.
  • Unrealistic Expectations: There’s a fine line between brightening and bleaching. Sadly, the Pakistani market often markets glutathione as a “fairness cream,” which reinforces damaging beauty standards. While we support using products to feel confident in your skin, we should move past the outdated notion that lighter is always better.
  • Not a Standalone Solution: If you’re looking for a miracle product, then you are being lazy. Glutathione cream works best as part of a holistic skincare routine, not a shortcut to perfect skin.

Glutathione Cream Is Indeed Promising

Glutathione cream is not a scam. It does have real, clinically-backed benefits, but it’s also not a magic wand. If you’re struggling with pigmentation, dullness, or early signs of ageing, it’s definitely worth a try. But use it smartly, with realistic goals and an understanding of your skin’s unique needs.

In Pakistan, where the beauty industry often blurs the line between skincare and skin-lightening, glutathione creams should be used as skincare, not fairness tools. Choose quality products, stay consistent, and most importantly, focus on healthy skin, not just fair skin.

Climate and Water Crisis Threaten 50% Drop in Sindh’s Mango Harvest

Climate and Water Crisis Threaten 50% Drop in Sindh’s Mango Harvest
Climate and Water Crisis Threaten 50% Drop in Sindh’s Mango Harvest

Climate change and ongoing water shortages may reduce mango production in Sindh by up to fifty per cent this year. Farmers, contractors, and traders expect major financial losses due to delays in mango ripening and severe damage to orchards across the province.

Unpredictable and extreme weather has caused most of the damage. Storms and sudden temperature changes have hit mango orchards hard in Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Shahdadpur, Tando Adam, Nawabshah, Sukkur, and Jamshoro.

March began with mild weather, but nighttime temperatures suddenly dropped. This early cold caused mango blossoms to dry up. Then came heatwaves and long dry spells. These conditions stunted the fruit’s growth, leading to smaller mangoes. Recent storms and strong winds have made things worse. Many orchards now lie in near-ruin.

Agriculture experts say unpredictable weather and a lack of water will likely cut mango production in Sindh by half. They also warn that ripening could be delayed by 20 to 25 days. This delay may affect the supply chain and disrupt export plans.

Contractors are among the hardest hit. Many leased orchards are expecting a profitable season. Now, they’re backing out of agreements, losing both money and advance payments. This trend could impact the local economy. As the mango supply falls, local market prices are expected to rise.

Experts also believe mango exports will drop. If exports fall, Pakistan’s position in the global mango trade may suffer.

How to Support the Pakistani Army: All We Can Do As Responsible Citizens

How to Support Pakistan Army
How to Support Pakistan Army

In times of peace, they stand vigilant. In moments of war, they become our shield. The Pakistan Army: our pride, our protectors, our brothers and sisters in uniform — now face yet another test as tensions escalate between India and Pakistan. Their courage isn’t just forged in weapons alone but also powered by the spirit, prayers and unity of Pakistani citizens and their support for the Pakistani Army.

This is not just a call for support; it is a call for solidarity- to become one and show the enemy that we are stronger together. It’s time for us to stand with every soldier who marches to the border, for there lies the heart of a mother, the pride of a father, and the hope of a nation.

Stand United in Spirit and Voice

Wars are not fought by soldiers alone. Behind every soldier stands a nation. Let your voice be loud in support. Share messages of solidarity on social media, speak with pride about our armed forces, and counter disinformation with facts. The enemy thrives on division—let them see unity instead.

Raise the Flag with Honour

Raise your flags high, light your homes in green, and wear your patriotism with pride. Visible support matters, not just to the enemy, but to yourself as a constant reminder of your love and commitment to your nation. Every act of solidarity is also a reminder to our soldiers that their sacrifice is honoured, and their struggle is not forgotten.

Pray with Purpose

Our faith is our strength. Pray for the safety of our jawans, for peace to return, and for victory to be just. Every dua echoes louder in times of trial. In mosques, in homes, and in hearts—let us collectively send our strength heavenward.

Support the Families Left Behind

As soldiers stand at the border, their families wait back home—nervous, proud, and anxious. Reach out to the families of martyrs and those deployed. Offer support, listen to their stories, and let them know the nation stands with them, not just in slogans but in action.

Contribute to Welfare Initiatives

Donate to registered funds and organisations that support the welfare of army families, wounded soldiers, and the children of martyrs. Whether through financial help or volunteering, let us ensure no soldier’s family ever feels forgotten.

Tell their Stories

Celebrate our heroes. From the peaks of Siachen to the plains of Punjab, every soldier has a story worth telling. Share these stories in schools, media, and community events. Let the next generation grow up knowing who safeguarded their tomorrow; let the know who the real heroes are.

7. Protect Operations Security (OPSEC)

Lastly and most importantly, it must be understood that we need to protect the armed forces by being mindful of operational security (OPSEC). This can be done by refraining from sharing sensitive information or images that could compromise their efforts. It is critically important, as any information about military movements shared online can be detected by AI, and potentially used to target military personnel.”

A Nation that Rises Together

The Pakistan Army does not fight for itself — it fights for us. For our homes, our cities, our dreams. It fights for the children playing in the streets of Lahore, for the call to prayer echoing in the valleys of Swat, for the flag fluttering over rooftops in Karachi.

This war, like every trial in our history, shall pass. But the courage we show today in our unity, in our voices and in our unwavering support; will be remembered forever.

Let the world see: we are not just a country with an army. We are a nation that stands with it, bleeds for it and prays for it.

Forever and always: Pakistan Zindabad!

Meta Blocks Access to Muslim News Page on Instagram in India

Meta Blocks Access To Muslim News Page On Instagram In India
Meta Blocks Access To Muslim News Page On Instagram In India (1)

Meta has restricted a popular Muslim news page on Instagram in India after a request from the Indian government. The page’s owner strongly criticised the move, calling it “censorship” during a time of growing tension between India and Pakistan.

The page, @Muslim, has 6.7 million followers. But users in India now see the following message when they try to access it: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

The Indian government hasn’t made any public comment about the ban. This block follows earlier actions where social media accounts of several Pakistani actors and cricketers were also taken down.

Ameer Al-Khatahtbeh, who founded and runs the @Muslim page, shared a statement. He said, “I received hundreds of messages, emails and comments from our followers in India that they cannot access our account.” He added, “Meta has blocked the @Muslim account by legal request of the Indian government. This is censorship.”

Meta hasn’t made a direct statement on this case. But a spokesperson pointed AFP to a public page on their website. That page explains how the company restricts content when governments say posts break local laws.

AFP reported the story and shared Meta’s response.

This incident has led to concerns over digital freedom. Many users online expressed anger, saying the government is trying to silences Muslim voices. They worry this limits access to important news and opinions during a politically sensitive time.

The ban has sparked a larger debate. People are questioning how much control governments have over social media. They are also asking how often platforms remove content without explaining it to the public. The situation highlights growing pressure on tech companies to follow government demands, even when it affects free speech.

Punjab Closes All Educational Institutions For Two Days Due To Security Threats

Punjab Closes All Educational Institutions For Two Days Due To Security Threats

The Punjab government has ordered a two-day closure of all educational institutions — Friday and Saturday — due to rising security threats. This includes both public and private schools, colleges, and universities.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the decision. He said, “The closure is for all public and private sector schools, colleges and universities all over the province.” He added, “This is a two-day closure; therefore, there will be academic activities as normal on Monday, May 12.”

The government took this step to protect students, teachers, and school staff given the current situation.

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) also postponed ongoing matric and intermediate exams for the same reason. However, Despite the school closures, examinations conducted by or on behalf of international examining bodies, including O-Level and A-Level exams, will proceed as scheduled. Students appearing for these important assessments are advised to attend their exams without disruption.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s armed forces reported that India sent 25 Israeli-made Harop drones into Pakistani airspace last night. This was confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

On Wednesday morning, India also carried out air strikes on several areas in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Islamabad called this a “blatant act of war” against India, especially since tensions have simmered between the two nuclear nations. Escalation followed a deeply tragic attack on tourists in India Illegally Occupied Jammu and and Kashmir last month.

Pakistani officials accused India of attacking six targets, including mosques and hydropower projects. The strikes killed at least 31 civilians, including children, and injured 57 others. Pakistan described the assault as “treacherous” and unprovoked.

In response, Pakistan claimed it shot down five Indian Air Force (IAF) jets and seven drones. It also destroyed a brigade headquarters and several checkposts along the Line of Control (LoC).

Given the current situation the government is prioritizing public safety by a temporary suspension in education activities.

Karachi Kings vs Peshawar Zalmi PSL Match Cancelled Amid Rising Tensions Between Pakistan and India

Karachi Kings vs Peshawar Zalmi PSL Match Cancelled Amid Rising Tensions Between Pakistan and India

The PSL match cancelled between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings due to rising tensions between Pakistan and India, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Wednesday. The decision follows drone attacks by India in several Pakistani cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Attock, Bahawalpur, and Karachi.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board, in consultation with all the stakeholders, has decided to reschedule tonight’s HBL PSL X match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings,” the PCB stated. The match was originally scheduled to take place later today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. A revised date for the 27th match of PSL 10 will be announced later.

The PCB also provided ticket refund details. “VIP Gallery and enclosures ticket holders can obtain refunds from TCS Express Centers for tonight’s match, while tickets bought online for tonight’s encounter will be automatically reimbursed in the accounts used at the time of booking,” the statement added.

This comes shortly after Director General ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed in a press briefing that India carried out acts of aggression on the night of May 7-8. He said the drone attacks targeted civilian locations and even mosques, violating Pakistan’s airspace. According to the ISPR, one civilian was martyred and four soldiers were injured during the attacks.

These escalations have triggered wider concerns over public safety, affecting scheduled events, including the PSL. The PCB’s decision to cancel the match is a precautionary move to ensure security for teams and spectators.

Pakistan Downs 25 Israeli-Made Harop Drones Used by India: ISPR

Pakistan Downs 25 Israeli-Made Harop Drones Used by India: ISPR

Pakistan’s military announced the successful downing of 25 Israeli-made Harop drones launched by India over various cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Karachi. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the drones were intercepted using both electronic countermeasures (soft-kill techniques) and conventional weaponry (hard-kill systems). Debris from these drones has been recovered from multiple locations across Pakistan.

ISPR termed these drone incursions as a “desperate and panicked response” by India following Pakistan’s retaliatory operations on May 6 and 7, during which five Indian fighter jets were downed, and several military posts were struck. The military’s media wing emphasised that India has suffered substantial losses along the Line of Control (LoC) in recent days.

In a press briefing, Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that the drones were successfully neutralised in multiple cities. He added that a 13th drone partially struck a military target near Lahore, causing minimal damage to equipment. Four Pakistan Army personnel were injured in a drone attack in Lahore, while one civilian was martyred in Miano, Sindh.

The military spokesperson highlighted that these attempts are part of a continued pattern of aggression and affirmed that Pakistan’s forces remain on high alert to defend the country’s airspace and territorial integrity. Referring to the destruction of five Indian aircraft by the Pakistan Air Force, DG ISPR stated that India “apparently lost the plot” and suffered heavy casualties along the LoC.

He emphasised that the international community can clearly witness the dangerous trajectory India is following through these provocative military actions, which are threatening not just regional stability but also broader global security.

NSAs of Pakistan and India Establish Contact

Meanwhile, National Security Advisers of Pakistan and India have established contact following India’s missile strikes inside Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan’s NSA, Lieutenant General Asim Malik, who also serves as DG ISI, spoke to his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval, in efforts to seek de-escalation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the contact but did not provide further details. It is believed that international and regional diplomatic efforts facilitated this communication. Additionally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also holds the position of NSA, spoke to both Pakistani and Indian NSAs following the missile strikes and Pakistan’s response.

World Ovarian Cancer Day: Simple Lifestyle Changes that Can Prevent Ovarian Cancer

May 8th is Ovarian Cancer Day, the day set apart to make more people aware of one of the deadliest forms of cancer found among women. This is the reason it has been nicknamed a “silent killer” because it presents symptoms difficult to detect until its advanced stage. Yet some minimal changes in lifestyles can reduce the risk of falling prey to the disease.

Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet

A nutritious diet is one of the easiest methods to enhance your health and decrease the risk of most diseases, including ovarian cancer. Increasing consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats may help keep your body healthy. Restrict processed foods, red meat, and sweetened beverages. These types of foods tend to cause inflammation and increase the risk of some cancers.

Including antioxidant-rich foods — such as berries, greens, and nuts — can boost your immune system. Adequate hydration and keeping a healthy weight are also part of cancer prevention.

What to Eat and What to Avoid to Prevent Ovarian Cancer
What to Eat and What to Avoid to Prevent Ovarian Cancer

Stay Physically Active

Regular exercise is another big ammunition for staying healthy. Research suggest that exercise can reduce the risk of ovarian and other cancers. It doesn’t have to be fanatical — a mere 30 minutes of brisk walking five times a week can work wonders. Exercise benefits hormone balance, weight regulation, and enhances immune function.

Pay Attention to Family History

If there’s a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, it’s crucial to discuss with your doctor. You might be at greater risk and would profit from genetic testing or early screening. It’s not just about knowing your risk but about understanding your risk so that it provides you with the opportunity to take early action, and that saves lives.

Listen to Your Body

Symptoms of ovarian cancer may be misleading. Bloating, the need to urinate often, stomach discomfort, and feeling fullness after eating small amounts may feel routine, but if they persist for weeks, do not brush them off. Detection at an early stage makes treatment more possible.

Stop Smoking and Drink in Moderation

Smoking and excessive drinking have been associated with numerous cancers. Stopping smoking and moderate drinking are actions you can take to preserve long-term health.

Though there’s no surefire means to avoid ovarian cancer, these easy lifestyle changes can lower your risk. Awareness, prompt action, and healthy living mean a lot. On this World Ovarian Cancer Day, let’s make more women aware of their health and motivate them to look after themselves.

This International Thalassemia Day, Meet Talha Ahmed: Pakistan’s Youngest Content Creator Spreading Joy While Fighting the Disease

This International Thalassemia Day, Meet Talha Ahmed: Pakistan's Youngest Content Creator Spreading Joy While Fighting the Disease
This International Thalassemia Day, Meet Talha Ahmed: Pakistan's Youngest Content Creator Spreading Joy While Fighting the Disease

Every year on May 8, the world observes International Thalassemia Day to raise awareness about this inherited blood disorder and to celebrate the strength and resilience of those living with it. Among the countless stories of courage, one name shines brightly in Pakistan. Talha Ahmed, a young boy with a big smile, a bigger heart and an unshakable passion for spreading joy through digital content.

At just 16 years old, Talha Ahmed has become one of Pakistan’s youngest and most inspiring content creators. While most kids his age are still discovering their interests, Talha is already building a loyal following on social media platforms where he posts entertaining videos, skits, and motivational messages—all while battling thalassemia major, a serious condition that requires regular blood transfusions and lifelong medical care.

Talha’s Story with Content Creation and Thalassemia

Talha was diagnosed with thalassemia major shortly after birth. His condition requires him to undergo regular blood transfusions and constant medical supervision. Despite the hardships, Talha’s family made it their mission to provide him with a life full of joy, love and encouragement.

Talha began his journey as a digital creator in July 2024. Playing multiple characters himself, he writes, shoots, and edits all his content independently. His videos often offer a critique of shallow online trends, wrapped in subtle humour and strong messages.

“I have had Thalassemia since childhood, but I never let it dominate my life,” Talha said. He added that he continued his studies and actively participated in daily activities despite his health challenges. “My work is my identity now, not my illness,” he affirmed.

Despite his illness, he brings smiles with pure, clean comedy, showing that strength lies in spreading joy, not in hardship. This has earned him over 549,000 followers on Instagram in less than a year.

Behind Talha’s brave face is a network of unwavering support. His family, particularly his mother, plays a pivotal role in nurturing his dreams while managing his healthcare needs. The local thalassemia community and medical teams have also championed his journey, turning his online presence into a platform for positive change.

World Thalassemia Day (WTD)

Thalassaemia is an inherited (genetically transmitted) autosomal recessive disorder acquired from parents (either or both). It affects red blood cells due to a genetic mutation, leading to the depletion of haemoglobin’s alpha and/or beta-globin chains. This results in low production of red blood cells and a lack of oxygenated blood supply to the body parts (anaemia).

The first World Thalassemia Day, or International Thalassemia Day, was declared on May 8, 1994, by Panos Englezos, the president and founder of the Thalassemia International Federation (TIF). In honour of his (Panos Englezos) son George and the numerous thalassemia patients who battled this disease, Panos Englezos established this day.

Talha is an Inspiration for All Thalassemia Patients

Talha’s influence extends beyond the digital world. Through his work, he has become not just a content creator but also a young ambassador of hope and resilience.

As the world comes together this International Thalassemia Day, Talha Ahmed reminds us that strength can come from the most unexpected places. His life is a testament to the power of joy, creativity, and community support in overcoming adversity. In his own words: “I might have thalassemia, but thalassemia doesn’t have me.”
