The Art of Creative Advertising with Bianca Fernandez

The Art of Creative Advertising with Bianca Fernandez
The Art of Creative Advertising with Bianca Fernandez

Ask any professional about the key to successful advertising, and you’ll likely hear the age-old mantra of Stephan Vogel, Chief Creative Officer at Ogilvy & Mather Germany: “Nothing is more efficient than creative advertising. Creative advertising is more memorable, longer-lasting, works with less media spending, and builds a fan community… faster.” However, not every advertiser possesses the rare skill of creativity in advertising; it’s a gift that develops over time.

Bianca Fernandez’s story mirrors this truth. Currently the Creative Director at DDB (Doyle Dane Bernbach) in the Philippines, a leading creative advertising agency, Fernandez is an award-winning creative who believes deeply in the power of advertising to change the world. A mother, an optimist, and a self-proclaimed meme supplier, her approach to creative advertising has taken her far in the industry.

A Life-Changing Moment

Bianca’s journey into advertising began in an unexpected way. While studying at university, she attended a series of talks, never anticipating how life-changing they would be. “I was initially set on a career in journalism, but while serving on the committee that organised advertising talks for my course, I fell in love with the industry,” Fernandez shared. From the outside, she was captivated by the passion, the freedom to find creative solutions, and the fun of the work. Needless to say, she was hooked.

A Lucky First Break

A crucial aspect of working in advertising is discovering your creative voice, which is often the very reason many people are drawn to the industry. However, finding that voice isn’t always easy. For Fernandez, it came early. Growing up in the Philippines, she noticed how many people were eager to master the English language while neglecting their native tongue. Determined to address this, she and her colleagues embarked on a project to create a reality web series. They learned everything from shooting and editing to scripting and securing locations. “Winning a bronze award for that was my first major achievement. When we stepped onto the stage to accept it, it felt as though we had won a Grand Prix. That experience truly honed my skills and shaped my creative perspective,” she recalled.

Since then, Fernandez has worked on campaigns for countless brands, each time crafting messages that resonate with audiences on a deeper level while meeting marketing objectives. She believes the key to striking that balance is truly understanding your audience. “You must get real insights into who your audience is, then create work that speaks to them in a memorable and relevant way,” she explained.

Creativity in Harmony with Brand Identity

Her ability to understand both the audience and the brands she works with has served her well, particularly as she has collaborated with larger, more established brands. Today, Fernandez works with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Gatorade, Sting, Lipton, and GAC. These are iconic brands with long histories, meaning their marketing must stay fresh while preserving the essence that has made them so successful. For Fernandez, this balance is crucial. “While the way we interact with media may evolve, the core of good advertising remains the same – it’s all about a good story. The platform may change, whether print or digital, but a compelling story will always resonate with the audience,” she noted.

She also believes that no advertising format is truly obsolete. “The gadgets we use to consume content may change, but print ads aren’t dead; they’re just on a screen now,” she said.

A Meme Supplier Turned Advertiser

Working in advertising often means facing rejection, sometimes in large doses. It can be disheartening, even discouraging. However, humour and positivity are invaluable traits in overcoming such setbacks. They allow you to remain resilient, keep evolving, and not take rejection too personally. As a “meme supplier” and optimist, Fernandez believes that without a positive outlook, it’s almost impossible to thrive in the industry. “How can you continue solving problems, evolving, and innovating if you can’t find the light in the darkness? I’m grateful for the people who make me laugh and find joy in the absurd. They keep me sane,” she shared.

The Importance of Recognition

With years of experience under her belt, Fernandez understands the importance of being recognised for your work, especially through awards. She is currently serving on the prestigious jury for the Spikes Asia Awards 2025, a role she sees as a fantastic opportunity for aspiring creatives. “Creative awards, such as those from Spikes Asia, show employers that you are exceptional. They highlight your ability to think outside the box, craft innovative ideas, and drive brand success through your creativity,” she said.

As she moves forward in her career, Fernandez remains excited about what lies ahead. “Every moment in advertising is a privilege. There are so many perks to this industry that you can’t find in other fields, and one of the best is the freedom to take creative risks and solve real-world problems while letting our ‘freak flags’ fly,” she said. However, harnessing creativity isn’t always easy; it requires time, experience, and mentorship. For Fernandez, it’s important to help the next generation of creatives unlock their full potential. “I hope I can teach young creatives how to tap into their endless creativity and become true problem-solvers,” she added.

In a world that is constantly changing, Bianca Fernandez continues to prove that creative advertising is not just about selling a product – it’s about telling a story, connecting with people, and making a lasting impact.

Saud Shakeel Comments on PCB’s Coaching Chaos

saud-shakeel-comments-on-pcb-coaching-chaos

Pakistan’s middle-order batter Saud Shakeel has made a bold statement about the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) revolving-door policy for head coaches.

If he were ever to become PCB chairman, he says, his first order of business would be to appoint a permanent head coach for three years—one who cannot be removed even if the chairman changes.

Now that’s a strong stance! And honestly, he makes a solid point.

Coaching Instability Hurts Players

Pakistan cricket has seen its fair share of coaching musical chairs. One day it’s Misbah-ul-Haq, the next it’s Saqlain Mushtaq, and before you know it, foreign coaches like Mickey Arthur or Grant Bradburn are in charge—only to be replaced again.

Saud believes that this constant change affects players’ performances. And he’s right!

“The change in the coaching setup definitely affects the environment of the dressing room. If I say that it does not affect us at all, I would be lying,” he said.

He explained that players and coaches need time to understand each other. A new coach comes in with his own mindset, preferences, and strategies, which takes time to adjust to. But if the coach is changed frequently, players are left confused.

And guess what? This uncertainty isn’t just in the coaching staff—it reflects in Pakistan’s inconsistent performances too.

A Strong Domestic System = A Stronger Pakistan Team

Saud Shakeel didn’t stop at coaching. He also addressed the financial struggles of Pakistan’s domestic cricketers.

“We need to uplift the standard of domestic cricket in terms of money,” he emphasized.

Many first-class cricketers in Pakistan earn less than top club cricketers in other countries. If we want our domestic structure to produce world-class talent, players must be given financial security. Otherwise, we risk losing talent to other careers or T20 leagues abroad.

Is Saud Shakeel Talking Sense? Absolutely!

Saud Shakeel’s comments highlight two major issues in Pakistan cricket—lack of coaching stability and poor financial support for domestic players.

If Pakistan truly wants to build a dominant cricket team, they need to fix these problems. A long-term head coach can bring consistency, clear planning, and better player development. And investing in domestic cricket means future stars will emerge better trained, more confident, and financially secure.

Sindh Cracks Down on Transporters Overcharging Passengers

The Sindh government has launched a strict crackdown on transporters overcharging passengers returning home after Eidul Fitr. Transport Authorities are taking immediate action to prevent fare exploitation and ensure fair pricing for travellers.

Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon emphasised that strong measures are in place to stop transporters overcharging passengers. He said the government prioritises protecting public rights and will not allow any bus, coach or any kind of transport service to increase fares unfairly above what is set.

District administrations, police, and the National Highway and Motorway Police are coordinating the crackdown. Transport officials will monitor fares closely and act swiftly against violators. Memon warned that transporters caught overcharging passengers will face legal consequences.

He explained that the campaign aims to relieve citizens from unnecessary financial burden and create a transparent, organised transport system. The government aims to make travel affordable and convenient for all citizens.

Earlier, the Sindh government cancelled the holidays of all officers and staff in the transport department. This decision ensured that transport officials stayed on duty during the festive period to prevent fare exploitation. Authorities deployed staff at major bus terminals and highways to monitor fares and ensure compliance.

Memon reiterated that the Sindh government will not tolerate any exploitation of citizens. He encouraged passengers to report overcharging incidents, so authorities can take swift action.

The Sindh government continues to improve transport regulations and provide relief to passengers. Ensuring fair fares and a smooth travel experience remains a key focus for the provincial administration, as it strengthens its efforts against transporters overcharging passengers.

President Asif Ali Zardari’s health is improving, and he may be discharged from the hospital in a few days, according to Dr Asim Hussain. Speaking to the media, Dr Asim said that the president is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Karachi. He is under the supervision of infectious disease specialists.

Dr Asim mentioned that the president’s latest blood test reports are positive. “Infectious diseases department experts examine President Asif Zardari three times a day,” he stated, adding that shifting him from Nawabshah to Karachi was the right decision.

Visits to the president have been restricted as a precaution because of COVID-19. Asim assured them that they are regularly informing the president’s family about his health.

President Zardari was moved to Karachi after experiencing health complications. Since then, he has been in isolation under close medical monitoring, with multiple diagnostic tests conducted.

Well Wishes

Several political leaders have expressed their concern and well wishes. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke to the president on the phone, offering prayers and noting that the nation was praying for his recovery. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq also called Zardari and wished him well. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori contacted Dr Asim to inquire about the president’s condition and extend his best wishes.

Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon denied rumours that Zardari would be moved to Dubai for treatment, stating that the president was recovering well.

Meanwhile, President Zardari has pledged to continue Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s mission to make Pakistan a developed and sovereign country. In a statement issued by the President House on the 46th death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Zardari reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and democracy. He described Bhutto as a great statesman and a true representative of the people.

“Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave the nation its first unanimous constitution, laid the foundation of Pakistan’s nuclear programme and established an independent and sovereign foreign policy,” Zardari stated. He also recalled how Bhutto’s leadership led to the Islamic Summit Conference, strengthening Muslim unity.

The president acknowledged Bhutto’s contributions to empowering workers, farmers, and the underprivileged, ensuring their rights. He emphasised that Bhutto’s efforts resulted in significant advancements in education, industry and defense.

Tinder’s AI Flirting Feature Sparks Mixed Reactions Online

Tinder’s AI Flirting Feature Sparks Mixed Reactions Online

Tinder’s AI flirting feature, a new AI-powered feature called The Game Game, has designed to help users practice flirting with a chatbot. Launched on April 1, this feature allows users to engage in flirty scenarios, like meeting someone at an airport baggage claim—and receive ratings based on their performance. The AI uses Tinder’s signature flame icons to score the interaction.

The feature is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-40 model and has drawn a mixed response from users. Some social media users were excited, while others were skeptical. One X user expressed frustration, saying, “AI needs to be stopped.” Another commented, “We’ve had enough with the AI, put it down!”

Others were intrigued by the concept. One user questioned, “So you’re telling me there’s an AI out there that rates how smooth I am? I’m intrigued.” Another asked, “So now it will be AI responses even when flirting?”

Some responses were humorous. A user joked, “Tinder’s ‘game’ just leveled up—time to unleash my inner Chad.” Another quipped, “It’s time to get that top score or delete the game and pretend I never tried.” A different user even compared it to spreadsheets, writing, “So, Tinder’s added an AI to rate my flirting? Guess I’ll need to create a VLOOKUP to find the perfect match. My dating life is now officially an Excel spreadsheet.”

Despite the memes and concerns, Tinder states that the goal is not to replace real-life dating. At the launch event, relationship expert Devyn Simone explained, “The Game Game is intentionally over the top—a low-stakes, playful experience that feels more like improv than a guide to perfect flirting.” She further added, “The AI rewards curiosity and warmth, listening, asking follow-up questions. It’s not about being slick or having the best line, it’s about being human.”

A Tinder spokesperson also clarified that the feature is not meant to be taken too seriously. The app has introduced time limits to ensure users engage in real conversations rather than getting stuck in AI interactions.

Tinder is not the only dating platform experimenting with AI. Other apps like Grindr and Hinge are also working on chatbot-based features. Third-party services like WingAI and Rizz offer AI-generated flirtation advice for users looking to improve their dating game.

Still, some users remain critical of AI’s growing presence in dating. One user summarized the concern by saying, “Practice flirting with AI bots to get you in the mood for flirting with the AI bots on the app. Everybody on the app is already a bot.

As AI continues to shape how people connect online, The Game Game might become a new trend in digital dating or fade away like many app features before it.

$2,300 iPhone? Trump Tariffs Trigger Economic Concerns

$2,300 iPhone? Trump Tariffs Trigger Economic Concerns
$2,300 iPhone? Trump Tariffs Trigger Economic Concerns

Countries around the world are preparing to increase trade tensions with the United States as Donald Trump’s tariffs trigger economic concerns. The decision raised concerns about rising prices in the U.S., the world’s largest consumer market.

On Wednesday, Trump introduced tariffs that led to a sharp decline in global financial markets on Thursday. Other world leaders criticised the move, seeing it as the end of decades of trade liberalisation. There were mixed messages from the White House regarding whether these tariffs were a permanent measure or a negotiation tactic. Trump said, “The tariffs give us great power to negotiate.”

The new U.S. tariffs include a 10% baseline tariff on all imports, with even higher duties on major trading partners. This could lead to increased prices on several consumer goods, including electronics. According to Rosenblatt Securities, if Apple passes on the added costs, a high-end iPhone could cost nearly $2,300.

Businesses are adjusting to the changes. Automaker Stellantis announced temporary layoffs in the U.S. and plant closures in Canada and Mexico. General Motors stated it would boost domestic production.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney criticised the U.S. for moving away from its role as a leader in international economic cooperation. He said, “The global economy is fundamentally different today than it was yesterday.” Canada announced limited countermeasures in response.

The Global Impact

China and the European Union pledged to retaliate. China faces a 54% tariff, while the EU is subject to a 20% duty. French President Emmanuel Macron called for European countries to stop investing in the U.S. Meanwhile, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and India are delaying any response while seeking negotiations. Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba called the tariffs a “national crisis.”

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned, “It is important to avoid steps that could further harm the world economy.” She urged all parties to resolve trade tensions.

U.S. officials gave conflicting statements. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and trade adviser Peter Navarro insisted the tariffs were not up for negotiation, but Trump later said, “The tariffs give us great power to negotiate.”

Markets suffered significant losses. The Dow fell nearly 4%, the S&P 500 dropped almost 5%, and the Nasdaq declined 6%, marking the worst trading day since March 2020. Companies with overseas production, including Nike and Apple, saw their stocks fall by 14% and 9%, respectively.

Asian markets also struggled, with Japan’s Nikkei down 1.85%. Chinese markets were closed for a holiday. Trump defended the tariffs as a response to trade barriers against U.S. goods. Vice President JD Vance said, “That’s fundamentally what this is about, the national security of manufacturing.”

Some experts believe the tariffs could increase inflation, raise recession risks, and cost American families thousands of dollars. Trump’s move also strains U.S. alliances in Asia. Japan and South Korea, which host U.S. military bases, face 24% and 25% tariffs, while Taiwan faces a 32% tariff.

Canada and Mexico were not targeted in the latest tariffs but already face 25% duties on several goods. The new tariffs on auto imports further strain their trade relationship with the U.S.

Asian Cricket Council Welcomes Mohsin Naqvi as New President

Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), officially took charge as the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on April 3. His appointment marks a new leadership phase for Asian cricket, as announced in a press release by the council.

Indian media had previously reported that the board expected Naqvi to assume the role due to the ACC’s rotation policy. However, in December, Shammi Silva, the head of Sri Lanka Cricket, was appointed as the ACC chairman after Jay Shah transitioned to the ICC presidency on December 1.

A PCB official told in December that the ACC chairmanship would transition to PCB in January 2025. This happened following an agreement made during an ACC meeting in Malaysia.

He said, “I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council.” He highlighted Asia’s central role in world cricket and emphasised working closely with all member boards to expand the game’s reach. “Together, we will unlock new opportunities, foster greater collaboration and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights,” he added. Naqvi also thanked the outgoing president for his contributions to the ACC.

Shammi Silva, in his farewell statement, said, “It has been a privilege to serve as president of the Asian Cricket Council.” He appreciated the teamwork of the member boards in strengthening the ACC and acknowledged Jay Shah’s leadership. “As I step down, I have full confidence that under Naqvi’s capable leadership, the ACC will continue its remarkable journey and thrive,” he stated.

The press release highlighted that Naqvi aims to focus on unity, innovation and strategic growth to maintain Asia’s cricket dominance. The ACC expressed optimism about the future. They are looking forward to enhanced development programmes, youth engagement and an increased global presence of Asian cricket under his leadership.

New Trailer Shows Fawad Khan and Vani Kapoor in Abir Gulaal Amid Threats

Fawad Khan's "Abir Gulaal" Released Amid Threats
New Trailer Shows Fawad Khan and Vani Kapoor in Abir Gulaal Amid Threats

Fawad Khan just gave us the best gift of Eid. The actor is making a comeback after 8 years in an upcoming film “Abir Gulaal” alongside Vani Kapoor. It’s safe to say that the fans couldn’t be happier as they have waited eagerly since his last appearance in “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.” Perhaps, Fawad Khan’s “Abir Gulaal” will heal Bollywood once again!

The romantic film was announced last year and the filmmakers have provided a glimpse of Fawad and Vaani in it as they dropped a teaser on April 1. It showed both Vaani Kapoor and Fawad Khan vibing to the iconic song “Kuch Na Kaho.” The movie is scheduled for release on May 9, 2025.

However, it seems like it wasn’t the ideal time to release the film as now it is facing severe backlash from political parties due to the strained relationship between India and Pakistan.

Read More: Jack Black is Returning for Jumanji 4

Such good news is now overshadowed by dark clouds of political threats. It is tragic to say the least.

Political Threats to Fawad Khan’s “Abir Gulaal”

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a regional political party in India, has voiced strong opposition to the screening of Abir Gulaal in Maharashtra. Ameya Khopkar, head of the MNS’s film wing, stated, “We have been protesting against this film, against Pakistani artists and Pakistani films. And we will continue to do so. No film will be released here featuring Pakistani artists.”

In the same report, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam claimed that Pakistani artists are not in demand in India.

When a film is released from Pakistan, Indian people do not like to watch it. It is a different thing to watch one or two films for a minute, but the films of Pakistani artists do not become very popular among the Indian audience. That is why Pakistani stars have never been able to succeed in India. I would advise Pakistanis that instead of exploring the Indian market, it is better to work in their own country.”

Fawad was absent from the Indian cinema due to an unofficial ban on Pakistani artists in India following the 2016 Uri attack. Collaborations with Pakistani artists were discouraged by the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) as it passed a resolution.

However, in 2023, the official ban was dismissed by the Bombay High Court after it received a petition seeking an official ban on Pakistani artists. Looks like, despite the ban being lifted, the political parties can’t seem to keep the hate aside.

Previous Ban on Fawad Khan

Contrary to Nirupam’s claims, Khan enjoys heartthrob status in India, having played the lead in Bollywood hits Khoobsurat (2014) and Kapoor & Sons (2016).

Despite his popularity, the Indian release of his film, The Legend of Maula Jatt, was paused after a right-wing fringe group objected to it. Now, in addition to political resistance, Abir Gulaal is also facing opposition from film bodies. Some have even indicated intentions to issue non-cooperation directives concerning Abir Gulaal, further complicating its release prospects

Ashoke Pandit, a producer and president of the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association stated that the industry federations have maintained a non-cooperation stance against Pakistani artists since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

The 2019 Pulwama Attack

The 2019 Pulwama attack was a terrorist attack that took place on February 14, 2019, in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, India.

A suicide bomber from the Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

As a consequence, several diplomatic and economic measures were taken against Pakistan which included revoking its Most Favoured Nation (MFN) trade status and the All Indian Cine Workers Association’s ban on Pakistani actors and artists in the Indian film industry. It was also stated that strong action would be taken on any organisation violating it.

The Film Still Set to Release

Despite these challenges, the film’s teaser has garnered positive reactions from audiences, with many expressing excitement over Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood after nearly a decade. The on-screen chemistry between Khan and Kapoor has been particularly praised, heightening anticipation for the film’s release.

As the release date approaches, it remains uncertain how these political and industry dynamics will influence the film’s distribution and reception in India. Will art be sacrificed at the hands of politics this time too or Fawad Khan’s magic will survive through it? This only time will tell.

The MONDO Controversy: Are We Running Out of Fresh Ideas?
The MONDO Controversy: Are We Running Out of Fresh Ideas?

As a coffee lover, one of my favourite hobbies is to try new coffee places in the city. With a new café opening every other day in Karachi, I’m always in luck. Recently, I came across this very lush, exquisite-looking coffee and tea bar in Phase 8, DHA, called MONDO. While I didn’t get a chance to visit it, from the looks of it, the place screamed high-end luxury. With a beautiful interior, coffee cups unlike any other and an ambiance to die for, MONDO looked like everything you look for in a coffee place.

Imitation or Inspiration?

Little did I know that’s not where the story ends. Recently, MONDO, Phuket, Thailand, took to social media, stating that they only have one branch, which is located in Phuket Old Town. Any other new cafes with the same name abroad or in Pakistan, with the same logo or design, have no association with the original café. Thus, it’s nothing but plagiarism and unethical business practice.

For the coffee community in Pakistan, especially in Karachi, this came as a shock. Knowing that the interior and design that many were swooning over was far from an original idea made people furious. On top of that, the  mention of Pakistan in MONDO’s post was more embarrassing as it damaged the reputation of the entire business sector in Pakistan, portraying them as con artists.

The MONDO Controversy: Are We Running Out of Fresh Ideas?
The MONDO Controversy: Are We Running Out of Fresh Ideas?

An Ongoing Trend

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time such a thing has happened. When, recently June, another coffee place opened in Karachi, many claimed that it was inspired by September Coffee on the East Coast. From the place’s vibes to the coffee blends and even aesthetics, June looks quite similar to September Coffee, yet not copied.

In MONDO’s case, the logo to the design and the aesthetic were entirely the same as the café of the same name in Phuket. It was hardly a case of inspiration.

Despite plagiarism being a common practice in Pakistan, the fact still remains: actions like these only show a lack of creativity and confidence, especially when done on such a wide scale.

Is it okay to make a profit out of it? Is it really fair?

Nintendo Switch 2 is Set to Release After 8 Years

Nintendo Switch 2 is Set to Release After 8 Years

The gaming world has big news! Nintendo has officially made the announcement to launch the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Yes, you read that right. The long awaited successor to one of the best-selling consoles is being released on 5 June. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa called the new console “a leap forward,” eight years after the release of the original Switch.

The Switch 2 will go on sale for $450 in the US, or $500 with a download code for Mario Kart World included. In the UK it will be priced at £395 for the base console or £429 for the bundle, while Canadians can expect to pay $630 or $700 CAD, and Australians will be paying $699 or $769 AUD. For Pakistani fans, Nintendo Switch price in Pakistan will be from PKR 120,000 to PKR 150,000.

Upgraded Specs in Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumoured to come with significant hardware upgrades to improve gameplay performance and graphics. The company said the new device would have better graphics and audio than its predecessor, as well as a chat button allowing players to speak to each other while playing. But this is unlikely to be the feature that makes the users want to buy the device.

The new Nintendo Switch 2 OLED model also has a comparatively larger display of 7 inches that is supposed to upgrade the hand held gaming experience. The resolution has also been upgraded from 1080p to 720p, with HDR support and a frame rate of 120fps.

Audio is not left behind either. The device now has improved speakers for clearer audio and a sturdier, adjustable kickstand for tabletop mode. This will offer a 3D audio experience via headphones and a microphone that is built into the top of the console.

Additionally, the Switch has a big storage upgrade with 256GB of internal storage. This is a historic moment for Nintendo fans as the company is usually really stingy in this matter.

While playing the game, players will pop up at the bottom of the screen; appearing almost like Zoom or Teams. This is probably the most unique feature as of now!

There are other marginal changes too, such as larger buttons and control sticks. The C button on the Switch controller is the new bit of hardware for the Switch 2. It appears to help control a voice chat feature that is built into the system.

Fire in Korangi Creek Continues to Burn for the Sixth Day

Fire in Korangi Creek Continues to Burn for Sixth Day
Fire in Korangi Creek Continues to Burn for the Sixth Day

A fire in Korangi Creek that started during the drilling of a 1,200-foot borehole has been burning for six days. The intense heat and continuous gas emissions have made firefighting efforts extremely difficult. On Saturday, authorities had to suspend operations due to unsafe conditions caused by high temperatures.

Officials have collected water and sand samples from the site for chemical analysis. The results will help determine the nature and quantity of gas present in the underground reservoir, which could provide insight into the cause of the fire.

Geologist Dr. Adnan Khan from the University of Karachi suggested that large underground gas reserves might exist in Korangi Creek. He referred to 56 years of data from oil and gas exploration in the region, indicating the possible presence of methane gas and coal deposits.

He explained that the fire in Korangi Creek started due to rising temperatures during drilling, which released trapped methane gas. Since methane is highly flammable, it ignited upon exposure to air. Experts have warned that the gas emissions at the site exceed 15%, which is extremely dangerous and requires immediate safety precautions.

Dr. Khan highlighted that Korangi Creek’s 25-million-year-old rock formations contain natural water reserves and methane. The geological characteristics of the area suggest the potential presence of valuable hydrocarbon deposits.

A 2020 Chinese study also identified gas and coal layers in Korangi Creek, supporting these findings. However, natural structural faults and fractures in the area have allowed the gas to escape, leading to the persistent fire.

He warned that the fire could continue for several weeks, releasing harmful gases like carbon dioxide. The ongoing emissions pose health risks to nearby residents, making it crucial for authorities to manage the fire in Korangi effectively.

Wedding in the Upper Region

According to the synoptic situation issued Thursday morning, a trough of a westerly wave is present over western Pakistan and may impact the upper regions over the next 24 hours.

For Thursday, mainly dry weather is expected across most of the country. However, isolated rain-wind or thunderstorms are likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and the Potohar region. Gusty winds are expected in Punjab and Sindh.

Friday is expected to bring similar conditions—hot and dry weather across plain areas, with chances of isolated showers in the upper parts.

Over the past 24 hours, light rain was recorded at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, including Cherat (3mm), Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu (1mm), and a trace in Rawalpindi. Dry weather persisted in most other areas.

Authorities have advised residents to take precautions, stay indoors during peak hours and remain hydrated as the hot and dry spell continues.

Donald Trump’s Tariffs Spare No Country: Global Economic Impact

Donald Trump’s Tariffs Spare No Country: Global Economic Impact
Donald Trump’s Tariffs Spare No Country: Global Economic Impact

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced sweeping reciprocal tariffs. This includes a 10% flat tax on all US imports and has spared no country, especially those in Asia. These Trump tariffs provoked dismay from leaders worldwide and have hinted at a possible trade war with the world’s biggest economy.

Many other nations with higher trade imbalances would take a much bigger hit even when Trump said he had “sweetened the deal” and had only imposed half of what other countries charge him.

The Scope of Trump’s Tariffs: Why is He Doing This?

Donald Trump has consistently talked about the large US trade deficits with countries like China, Japan and the European Union as a sign of economic imbalance. According to statistics, the US has the largest trade deficit with China, making China the main target of these tariffs.

These Trump tariffs aim to narrow the trade deficit, which he believes will help American businesses grow and create more jobs in the country. Trump said the import taxes, ranging from 10% to 49%, would do to U.S. trading partners what they have long done to the U.S.

Higher tariffs will ultimately lead American consumers to buy the same goods locally, as the increased cost of imports makes domestic products more competitive. This, in turn, is expected to support U.S. manufacturers and strengthen local industries.

No Country was Spared

It’s not just China that has taken a hit. It has also impacted allies and major trade partners such as Canada, Mexico, the European Union and Japan. Despite strong opposition from allied nations, the tariffs were justified as a measure to reduce reliance on foreign production and boost domestic manufacturing. But many experts argue that the move disrupted supply chains and increased costs for American businesses and consumers.

With this news, financial markets were jolted. U.S. stocks were down by as much as 3% early Thursday and a 2.8% drop in Tokyo’s benchmark led losses in Asia. Oil prices sank more than $2 a barrel. Moreover, the burden falls heaviest on Asia-Pacific nations, with the highest tariffs for impoverished, financially precarious countries like Laos at a 48% tariff, Cambodia at 49% and Myanmar at 44%.

The Nations Are Reacting

Asian countries that are among the biggest exporters to the U.S. pledged to act quickly to support automakers and other businesses. South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo told officials to work with business groups to analyse the impact of the new 25% tariff to “minimise damage,” the trade ministry said.

China’s commerce ministry said Beijing would “resolutely take countermeasures to safeguard its own rights and interests,” without saying exactly what it might do. With earlier rounds of tariffs, China has reacted by imposing higher duties on U.S. exports of farm products, while limiting exports of minerals used in high-tech industries such as electric vehicles.

Even the Canadian Prime Minister has taken the oath to fight these tariffs with “counter measures.”

Possible Implications of these Tariffs

While Trump is living up to his slogan of “making America great again,” the consumers and business corporations are viewing them in a different light. They believe these tariffs could hurt their budgets, slow down businesses and impact interest rate decisions.

Analysts have also warned that US tariffs could lead to a major global trade war that could push the US economy into a recession zone. If import prices go up, companies will not cut their profit margins to absorb the cost; instead, they pass the extra cost on to consumers, tightening household budgets. If tariffs remain high for an extended period, they could impact corporate expansion plans, new hiring and, in an effort to protect profits, lead to employee cost-cutting.

And let’s not just forget the countermeasures that have already been imposed.

A Possible Trade War Is About to Start
A Possible Trade War Is About to Start

The Future of U.S. Trade Policy

With Trump considering another run for office, questions remain about whether he would reinstate or expand his tariff policies. Whether seen as a necessary protectionist strategy or a disruptive force, their impact continues to reverberate worldwide. Will these Trump tariffs boost the domestic trade or just make the U.S trade policy worse?

Karachi’s Conviction Rate in Street Crime Cases Falls to 6.13%

Karachi’s Conviction Rate in Street Crime Cases Falls to 6.13%
Karachi’s Conviction Rate in Street Crime Cases Falls to 6.13%

In 2024, Karachi recorded the disposal of 1,355 street crime cases, but convictions were secured in only 83 cases. This means the conviction rate was just 6.13%, raising serious concerns about the justice system’s ability to handle increasing street crimes, The News reported.

Official records show that 1,272 cases ended in acquittals, which accounts for 93.87% of all disposed of cases. By the end of December, the backlog of pending street crime cases in Karachi courts stood at 2,921.

Comparing the situation with the previous year, things have worsened. In 2023, 2,583 cases were disposed of, with 283 convictions, resulting in a conviction rate of 10.96%. The number of acquittals in 2023 was 2,300, making up 89.04% of total cases.

A district-wise breakdown of the 2024 statistics shows variations across Karachi. District East recorded 444 disposed cases, with 42 convictions, making the conviction rate 9.46%. Malir district saw 398 cases disposed of, but only nine convictions, which is an extremely low conviction rate of 2.26%.

In District West, 219 cases were decided, with only seven convictions (3.20%) and 212 acquittals. District Central disposed of 159 cases, convicting only nine accused (5.66%) and acquitting 150 individuals. District South decided 135 cases, with 16 convictions (11.85%) and 119 acquittals.

Legal experts say the low conviction rate is due to flawed investigations, weak prosecution, and lack of strong evidence. Senior lawyer Shaukat Hayat pointed out that the three key pillars of the criminal justice system—the police, prosecution, and courts—fail to fulfill their duties.

He explained that poor investigation and improper evidence collection are major causes of acquittals. “If the investigation is conducted properly and evidence is collected, the question of acquittal does not arise,” he said.

According to him, the prosecution also fails to scrutinise charge sheets properly, which allows defense lawyers to find loopholes. He further noted that repeated court summons lead complainants to lose interest in their cases, which often results in acquittals. He also mentioned that in some cases, innocent people are wrongly implicated, weakening the case further.

Meanwhile, Karachi’s rising crime rates continue to be a concern, with incidents like the Karsaz Road accident adding to public safety worries. The Karsaz Road accident is another example of the city’s growing security and law enforcement challenges. As authorities investigate, the Karsaz Road accident highlights the need for improved legal and safety measures in Karachi.

Jack Black has formally announced his comeback for Jumanji 4, contrary to previous claims. Only recently, while promoting A Minecraft Movie, Black cast some doubt on the production of the sequel, saying he would not believe it until he set foot on set. But in a twist of fate, the actor has now disclosed that the movie is actually on, and he’s part of it.

A Playful Misdirection

During an appearance on the TODAY show, Black participated in a rapid-fire game where he addressed the status of several of his past films. When asked about School of Rock, he dismissed the idea of a sequel but left the door slightly open by saying, “Never say never.” However, when Jumanji came up, he responded with a confident “Highly likely,” before adding, “It’s in the works… Spoiler alert, I’m in it!”

This announcement flew directly in the face of his earlier statements, confirming that his initial pessimism was merely a good show. Prone to using his timing for comedic effect, Black even poked fun at the release date, announcing Jumanji 4 would be coming out in “Christmas 2030” before almost immediately affirming the real date: December 11, 2026.

What to Expect from Jumanji 4

Sony Pictures has gone ahead with the much-awaited sequel, which will be directed by Jake Kasdan once again. The movie will be the third in the rebooted series of Jumanji, which started with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and followed up with Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). With the franchise doing well, there are big hopes for another action-adventure comedy packed with crazy obstacles and surprise game-changers.

Plot details are kept secret, but fans will be happy to know that Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan will be joining Black once again. With the series’ unique blend of comedy and adventure, Jumanji 4 is looking to become a huge holiday hit.

Jack Black’s Busy Schedule

Even with the occasional retirement wisecrack, Black is one of Hollywood’s most working actors. He has A Minecraft Movie, out April 4, 2025, starring opposite Jason Momoa. He is also shooting a reimagining of Anaconda, where he is wedding photographer Doug McCallister.

With Jumanji 4 officially in the works, further news is imminent. The fans can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing Black’s favorite character, Professor Shelly Oberon, is coming back for another thrilling jungle ride.

Australia, West Indies to Face Off in Landmark Day-Night Test in Jamaica

Australia, West Indies to Face Off in Landmark Day-Night Test in Jamaica

Cricket fans in the Caribbean could be in for a treat this July as Sabina Park in Jamaica looks to host its first-ever day-night Test when Australia tours the West Indies. But there’s a catch—the historic pink-ball clash hinges on one key factor: floodlight upgrades.

A First for Sabina Park—If the Lights Are Ready

The third Test of the Australia-West Indies series is scheduled as a day-night match, with a 1:30 PM local time start. But since Sabina Park has never hosted a pink-ball international, everything depends on whether the stadium’s new lighting system is ready in time.

Cricket Australia has already given the green light for a day-night game, but their officials will visit Jamaica this month for a final inspection.

Must Read: PSL 10 Anthem Sparks Controversy: Is It Time for a New Voice?

“The Australians have agreed for it to be a day-night Test,” said Chris Dehring in a press conference. “It is, of course, subject to the new lighting system being finished in time and meeting the required specifications.”

Why the Delay? A Battle with the Lights

The upgrade hasn’t been smooth sailing. Originally, the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) planned to have the lights installed by January. But technical challenges caused delays.

JCA President Dr. Donovan Bennett explained the situation:

“We could have gotten cheaper lights from China, but they were too heavy for the existing stands. The wind forces on the pylons would have been a major issue.”

So, instead, they opted for lights from a manufacturer in England—but that choice led to delays. Now, with the clock ticking, Sabina Park is in a race against time.

A Lucky Omen for the Windies?

For the West Indies, playing Australia in a day-night Test might actually be a good sign.

Their last pink-ball Test against Australia ended in a stunning victory. At the Gabba in 2024, Shamar Joseph’s heroics led the Windies to their first-ever day-night Test win—and Australia’s first-ever loss in such a match.

Dehring was quick to point it out: “If memory serves me right, the last time we beat Australia, it was a day-night Test. Maybe it’s a good omen!”

Australia’s Rare Visit to the Caribbean

This series will kick off the 2025-2027 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Australia will arrive in the West Indies fresh from their WTC final against South Africa at Lord’s in June.

It will also be Australia’s first Test tour of the Caribbean since 2015. That series saw Steve Smith fall agonizingly short of a double century at Sabina Park, dismissed for 199 in a 277-run win.

Final Thoughts—Will It Happen?

A day-night Test at Sabina Park would be a historic moment for West Indies cricket. But with time running out, it all comes down to the floodlights.

If the upgrades are completed, fans could witness history in the making. If not, it’s back to traditional red-ball cricket under the Caribbean sun.

What do you think? Will Sabina Park be ready in time, or is this dream fading fast?
