US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel is “NOW IN EFFECT.” He wrote on his Truth Social platform, “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” Trump said the truce would begin in phases starting around 0400 GMT Tuesday.
He explained that Iran would stop its operations first, and Israel would follow 12 hours later. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed this and said Iran continued military actions until exactly 4 am. “The military operations of our powerful Armed Forces to punish Israel for its aggression continued until the very last minute, at 4 am,” Araghchi posted on X.
He thanked Iran’s forces for their efforts. “Together with all Iranians, I thank our brave Armed Forces who remain ready to defend our dear country until their last drop of blood, and who responded to any attack by the enemy until the very last minute,” he added.
On Monday, Trump announced a complete ceasefire and said it could end the 12-day war. He also praised both countries. “On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR’,” he wrote.
However, Israel has not confirmed the ceasefire. The Israeli military said Iran launched two volleys of missiles early Tuesday. Witnesses in Tel Aviv and Beersheba heard explosions shortly after the ceasefire deadline.
Israeli media reported that a missile hit a building in Beersheba, killing three people. This attack happened even after the ceasefire time had passed. The US and Israel had attacked Iran’s nuclear sites over the weekend.
Washington claimed Tehran was close to building a nuclear weapon. Iran and Israel exchanged missiles just before the truce deadline. The last strikes came moments before the agreed halt at 4 am, but Israel hasn’t said if it stopped firing.

Talha Anjum was caught in the crossfire of a recent controversy, yet again, that has evoked mixed responses on social media, with many coming out in support of him and others condemning his actions.
Last week, a fan reportedly threw a bottle at the Young Stunners’ star during a concert, prompting a stark response from the rapper. Anjum pointed out the offender, brought him on stage, and had security drag him out of sight. This, however, wasn’t the first time such a thing had happened to the singer.
In the past, the Young Stunner has been hit by bottles at his concerts and ended up leaving the stage or responding aggressively. Despite one’s like or dislike for an artist, throwing objects at them mid-concert is simply immoral and unjustified.
This needs to stop!
A Recurring Pattern
While physical violence is the most extreme form, celebrities in Pakistan are constantly subjected to judgment, ridicule, and harassment over the most trivial matters. Their smallest mistakes are often blown out of proportion and treated as grave offences.
Take actress Meera, for instance; she has been relentlessly mocked for years over her English mispronunciations. Similarly, star cricketer Muhammad Rizwan has been targeted by meme culture on social media for comparable reasons.
Celebrities who publicly express political views, such as Shahid Afridi, often face backlash from supporters of opposing parties. As public figures, their private lives are frequently exposed, misinterpreted, and harshly judged.
But perhaps the most cruel form of ridicule is when it happens in front of a live audience, while they’re performing. Talha Anjum has been subjected to this kind of public humiliation time and again.
Keyboard warriors are too keen to attack celebrities every chance they get. Some overzealous people take matters to the extreme by physically targeting artists or taking unwarranted personal shots.
Art and entertainment are essential components of a cultural system. First and foremost, it is important to distinguish the art from the artist and acknowledge the fact that all celebrities are humans, which entitles them to a set of basic rights that are accorded to every citizen.
Their right to privacy, their political opinions, and their personal lives should be respected. Most of all, when they are out in public, performing, one needs to be courteous or leave if they feel the need to throw objects at them.
A less judgmental public environment where celebrities are allowed to be themselves would cultivate growth in the entertainment industry. Unconventional artists who don’t fit traditional stereotypes will gain motivation to perform on a larger scale.
As a result, the industry will flourish, and Pakistan will become a more inclusive country for the cultivation of art.

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a total ceasefire, ending a 12-day conflict that displaced millions from Tehran and raised fears of a broader regional war.
However, by early Tuesday, Israel had not confirmed the ceasefire and instead reported fresh missile launches from Iran. Explosions were heard in Tel Aviv and Beersheba, where a building strike killed three people, according to Israeli media. The Israeli military, which has previously targeted Iranian nuclear sites, claimed Tehran was dangerously close to developing a nuclear weapon.
Trump posted on Truth Social: “On the assumption that all works as it should—as it will—I congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end what should be termed ‘THE 12 DAY WAR.'”
While an Iranian official acknowledged a ceasefire agreement, Iran’s Foreign Minister added that attacks would only stop if Israel ceased its “illegal aggression.”
Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said: “Iran had no intention of continuing its response, provided Israel halted its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 a.m. Tehran time (0030 GMT) on Tuesday.” He also noted on X (formerly Twitter) that the final decision on ending Iran’s military operations would be made later.
Abbas Araqchi on X.
Since then, there have been no confirmed new Israeli strikes on Iranian targets. A senior White House official said Trump personally negotiated the agreement in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel agreed to the ceasefire under the condition that Iran would stop its attacks. Trump stated that both countries would wrap up any ongoing military operations before the truce formally takes effect.
Qatar’s Prime Minister reportedly played a key role in mediating the agreement, engaging with Iranian officials following Iran’s missile strike on U.S. bases in Qatar the previous night. U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff also participated in talks with Tehran.
Neither Iran’s U.N. mission nor the Israeli embassy in Washington responded to Reuters’ requests for comment. Israeli officials reportedly relayed their conditions to the U.S., while Prime Minister Netanyahu advised cabinet members not to speak publicly on the matter.
Earlier, Trump dismissed Iran’s attack on the U.S. facility in Qatar, calling it a “very weak response”and claiming the U.S. had “very successfully counteracted” the 14 rockets launched.

On Monday, Iran said the United States’ recent attacks on its nuclear sites have expanded the range of legitimate targets for the Iranian armed forces. This statement came after former US President Donald Trump hinted at a regime change in Tehran.
Ebrahim Zolfaqari, the spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central military headquarters, said:
“Mr Trump, the gambler, you may start this war, but we will be the ones to end it.”
As global attention turned to Iran’s response to the US strikes, Iran and Israel exchanged air and missile attacks.
These developments followed the US bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites over the weekend. Trump suggested that this might result in the overthrow of the Iranian government.
Fordow Site Heavily Damaged
According to commercial satellite images, the US attack on the Fordow nuclear plant, located far underground, caused major damage or possibly destroyed the facility and the uranium-enriching centrifuges it contained.
However, experts said the full status of the site is still unconfirmed.
Trump made multiple posts on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he claimed the attacks caused major destruction.
“Monumental Damage was done to all Nuclear sites in Iran,” he stated.
He also wrote, “The biggest damage took place far below ground level. Bullseye!!!”
Earlier, he posted, “It’s not politically correct to use the term ‘regime change,’ but if the current Iranian regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a regime change??? MIGA!!!”
These comments suggest Trump may be adopting a more confrontational policy toward Iran.
Despite Trump’s statements, members of the current US administration, including Vice President JD Vance and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, publicly said the United States is not seeking to overthrow the Iranian government.
‘Operation Midnight’
The US entered the conflict early Sunday morning by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The attack was called Operation Midnight and involved the US Air Force’s B-2 Spirit stealth bombers.
”The US used 75 precision-guided munitions, including bunker-buster bombs, and launched more than two dozen Tomahawk missiles,” says General Dan Caine, chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
In response, Iran launched several missiles at Israeli targets. The attack injured civilians and caused serious damage in Tel Aviv.
Iran’s government condemned the US strikes and said it would defend itself using all available force.
Tehran insisted that its nuclear programme is peaceful and not aimed at developing weapons.
An unnamed Iranian official claimed that most of the country’s enriched uranium had been moved before the airstrikes. However, this claim has not been independently verified.

Images also showed substantial movement of trucks and bulldozers around Fordow in the days preceding the strikes, in what appeared to be an attempt by Iran to move out equipment and nuclear materials stored at the protected site in anticipation of US strikes.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said there was no increase in off-site radiation levels after the airstrikes.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told CNN that a full assessment of damage, especially underground, is still ongoing.
Pope Leo XIV Urges for Peace
Pope Leo XIV called for immediate peace in the Middle East. He warned that the US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites and Iran’s missile retaliation against Israeli cities could trigger uncontrollable escalation.
During his weekly address from the Apostolic Palace, the Pope said:
“We must halt the tragedy of war before it descends into an irreparable abyss.”
He described the situation as “alarming”and “dramatic,”and said the suffering of civilians, especially in Gaza and other conflict zones, must not be overlooked.
He added that the world’s call for peace must be met with “responsibility and reason,”and not drowned out by “the noise of weapons and rhetoric that fuel conflict.”
Israel Strikes Back at Iranian Airports
Israel confirmed it carried out airstrikes targeting at least six airports across Iran, in the west, east, and central regions.
According to a statement posted on Israel’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, remotely operated drones destroyed 15 Iranian military aircraft and helicopters.

The Israeli strikes also damaged runways, underground shelters, refuelling aircraft and various military jets, including F-14s, F-5s and AH-1 helicopters.
Israel said these attacks weakened Iran’s air force and disrupted its ability to launch aircraft from those bases.
Missile Sirens Across Israel
Following these attacks, Israeli media, including The Times of Israel, reported new missile launches from Iran. This triggered missile sirens across central and southern parts of the country.
In Jerusalem, air raid sirens interrupted parliament proceedings, and lawmakers were seen rushing to shelters.
These alerts followed an earlier wave of Iranian missile attacks that caused similar alerts in northern Israel.
Yemen Declares Entry Into War
The Yemeni Armed Forces announced they are officially entering the war following the US strikes on Iran.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, wrote on social media:
“Yemen is officially entering the war (against the United States and Israel). Keep your ships away from our territorial waters.”
Protests Erupt in Iran and the United States
In Iran, crowds gathered at the holy shrine of Hazrat Masumeh (SA) in Qom to protest the American and Israeli attacks.
In Tehran, a large building facade featured a banner with artwork representing different segments of Iranian society.

At the same time, protests broke out in the United States. Anti-war demonstrations were reported in several cities.

ICAN Condemns US Strikes
The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) condemned the US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, calling them illegal.
In a statement on Sunday, ICAN urged the US to halt what it called “illegal” military actions and return to diplomacy.
ICAN’s Executive Director Melissa Parke said, “Military action is not the solution to concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme.”
She added that US intelligence agencies have assessed that Iran is not actively pursuing nuclear weapons, which makes the strikes unnecessary and dangerous.
She also said the attack could harm global efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear arms.

At this point, almost everyone is aware that Careem has officially decided to shut down its operations in Pakistan. The decision to exit Pakistan was declared on July 18, 2025, and has shocked many loyal customers. And why wouldn’t it? Careem was the one that familiarised the people of Pakistan with ride-hailing services.
It’s the end of an era! But now the big question on everyone’s mind is: What are the best Careem alternatives in Pakistan that people can depend on?
What to Look for in a Careem Alternative
Before I go ramble about the alternatives left, it is important to understand why was Careem the household name in Pakistan and how it set the standard.
This will allow a better understanding of the features that matter the most in any app-based transport service and help chose a replacement in accordance to that.
Safety of Customers: Before Careem, many female travellers were travelling at the cost of their safety because no one was keeping a strict check and balance on the drivers. Then Careem gave women a faster, more trustworthy option.
Pricing and Affordability: When Careem came into being, the thing that attracted people the most was it’s affordability, especially given the fuel prices. That’s the whole point!
Simple User Interface: One thing about the Careem app that made it so successful was it’s easy to use interface. Customers and even the drivers are simple people in our country, they can’t work with a technical app just to travel or make a living from driving.
Commute and Coverage: The coverage of Careem was also a very big USP, especially the time it was launched. People want something that makes their commute easier in the city and inter-city as well.
Best Careem Alternatives in Pakistan
While we bid farewell to Careem, there are still a lot of solid players that will fill the void for it. Here are the top Careem alternatives you should consider in Pakistan:
1. Yango Pakistan
Compared to some, Yango is a relatively new name, but it’s gaining serious traction in Pakistan’s ride-hailing space. Backed by the tech giant Yandex, this Russian-origin app is currently a hit, to say the least.
Competitive pricing (even cheaper than Careem ever was). This has been the factor that is making Yango stand out amongst all its competitors
Clean, simple interface for both Yango customers as well as the driver.
Strong availability in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Yango has a responsive customer support service, and their women’s safety policies have really improved recently, which makes the driver fearful before doing anything compromising.
The best part? Many users report better vehicle quality and quicker arrival times in Yango. Oh and it also pre-calculates the fare for you before a ride so you don’t have to worry about paying more on the destination or due to traffic.
If you were a regular Careem user, Yango could very well be your next go-to.
2. inDrive
Formerly known as inDriver, inDrive has a unique business model: It allows the customer to negotiate the fare in advance. You offer the driver the fare you can pay, and the drivers agree on what they can accept, then a suitable price is picked so that no one gets compromised.
While it may sound chaotic, it actually works quite well for budget-savvy Pakistanis.
Major presence in multiple major cities
Flexibility in pricing and the negotiation model makes it unique and affordable, like that in real life.
For people who felt Careem had become too expensive in its final days, inDrive offers a refreshing change.
3. Bykea
Bykea toh samjho bhai kiya, is also another household name in Pakistan, especially the Bike service. Almost every young guy uses it in Pakistan for travelling, and many locals use it for sending stuff from one place to another, like a courier, but faster.
Even the bikers find it economical as they can to earn money while already going to a destination. Double money, same fuel and a buddy to talk to while travelling.
Super affordable, especially given the fuel rates. People can travel on a bike in lesser cost.
Efficient in traffic as there are fewer chances to get stuck in a motorbike compared with a car.
Perfect for solo commuters and young students who can’t drive.
Bykea’s biggest strength is how local it feels, built for Pakistanis by Pakistanis. If you’re commuting short distances or zipping through dense urban areas like Saddar, Bykea is a solid Careem alternative.
Careem Shuts Down in Pakistan – What You Need to Know
The official reason according to the CEO Mudassir Sheikha, is a combination of rising economic pressures, growing competition and a global slowdown in funding. But almost anyone can see right through this, it’s clearly about more than numbers.
Uber’s decision to pull back its operations a while ago was already a warning sign. It’s now obvious that the ride-hailing market in Pakistan is going through a big shift.
Pakistan’s economy has taken some big hits in recent years, from inflation to currency devaluation, making it harder for even big players like Careem to keep services running profitably.

After the USA struck three nuclear facilities in Iran, namely Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan, the Islamic Republic of Iran has officially decided to close the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation. At first, this seems like a low-impact retaliation, but only for those who don’t understand the severe impacts of this decision.
This closure can likely send the global economy into a recession due to its ability to increase oil and LPG prices. People are underestimating the economic fallout this can bring.
What is the Strait of Hormuz, and why is it Important?
Among the world’s most important oil chokepoints, the Strait of Hormuz is geo-strategically important to the United States, Asia and beyond, as the strength of the global economy is heavily dependent on the flow of oil.
The strait is located between Oman and Iran, connecting the Gulf to the north with the Gulf of Oman to the south and the Arabian Sea beyond.
It is 33km wide at its narrowest point, with the shipping lane just 3km wide.
About one-fifth of the world’s total oil consumption passes through the strait. Between the start of 2022 and last month, approximately 17.8 million to 20.8m barrels of crude, condensate, and fuels flowed through the strait daily, according to data from analytics firm Vortexa.
Members of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) – Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iraq – export most of their crude via the strait, mainly to Asia.
The Strait of Hormuz is a Lifeline for Global Energy
The Strait of Hormuz is the artery through which nearly a fifth of the world’s oil passes daily. We’re talking about 20 million barrels of crude oil and condensate, in addition to massive volumes of liquefied natural gas.
It’s not just oil, though. Europe specifically is highly dependent on the LNG gas from the middle east after it’s boycott of Russian oil and gas.
Apart from Europe, South East Asian countries like Bangladesh, India and Pakistan source atleast 70% of it’s LNG gas from Strait, and the current closure can have a massive impact on these already economically troubled nations.
That’s why any disruption here sends shockwaves far beyond the Middle East. Remember the 2019 tanker attacks? Or the U.S.-Iran standoff that brought the world to the brink of war after the assassination of Qassem Soleimani? The Strait of Hormuz has always been a pressure point.
An oil tanker passes through the Strait of Hormuz
When Iran Closes the Strait
Closing the Strait has the advantage of being a means to impose a direct cost on Trump, as it would trigger an oil price spike with a near-immediate inflationary effect in the US and across the globe.
This time, it’s also about retaliation on the basis of recent events and their twisted westernised rhetoric, like the Israel-Gaza war, Israeli strikes on Iranian officials, and Washington attacking the nuclear facilities of Iran illegally.
Surrounded by sanctions and regional rivals, Tehran leans on the Strait as its trump card. And it’s hard to argue with the logic: No country can afford the Strait going dark, not even for a few days.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called on China to help stop Iran from closing it, telling Fox News: “I encourage the Chinese government in Beijing to call them about that, because they heavily depend on the Strait of Hormuz for their oil.”
There are already reports that some supertankers have U-turned in the strategic waterway following the US strikes.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman
The Global Domino Effect
Global oil prices never take bad news well. Even a whisper of conflict in the Strait of Hormuz sends futures soaring. A full-blown closure would create an oil shock not seen since the 1970s.
Developing countries, already battling inflation and energy crises, would be hit hardest.
Europe, still reeling from its scramble to replace Russian gas, would face a new nightmare. Asia’s industrial giants like Japan, South Korea, China would have to rethink their energy calculus. The United States, despite being a major producer, isn’t immune either.
Then there’s the military cost. Securing the strait would likely take a multinational effort, risking skirmishes or a broader war. Can a war-weary world handle another Middle East conflict?

PAA voiced the industry’s collective concern over the recent increase in Withholding Tax (WHT) on specified services.
Karachi, June 23, 2025: A delegation from the Pakistan Advertisers Association (PAA) today represented the advertising and marketing communications sector at the Post-Budget Consultative Meeting on Tax Anomalies convened by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI).
At the forum, PAA voiced the industry’s collective concern over the recent increase in Withholding Tax (WHT) on specified services, including advertising, from 4% to 6%—a move they termed as economically punitive and unsustainable. The delegation presented a detailed case outlining the severe impact of the hike, describing it as equivalent to a 17% super tax when viewed in relation to average net profit margins of just 15%.
“In an environment already strained by rising HR costs, inflated utility bills, and reduced client spending, this additional tax burden threatens the viability of service-based businesses,” said Ahmed Kapadia, Chairman Pakistan Advertising Association. He further added, “We urge the government to immediately reverse the hike and rationalize the WHT to 3%, reflecting the true tax liability of compliant service firms.”
The PAA’s written appeal was submitted to FPCCI leadership, calling for immediate advocacy with the Federal Board of Revenue and Ministry of Finance.
This intervention underscores PAA’s commitment to protecting the interests of Pakistan’s advertising and media industry during a period of escalating financial pressure.
The wait is finally over! White Hill Studios has just released the exciting trailer for Sardaar Ji 3, and fans are buzzing with anticipation. Set to hit theatres overseas on June 27, 2025, this film boasts an impressive cast, featuring the national crush of Pakistan, Hania Aamir, in a key role.
The trailer is packed with everything from thrilling action scenes to laugh-out-loud comedy, striking a perfect balance between lightheartedness and energy. Audiences can look forward to a vibrant blend of drama, Punjabi flair, and standout performances.
The production quality is top-notch, with visually stunning scenes and catchy dialogue that have already racked up millions of views just hours after its release. The response from international fans has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly from audiences in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.
However, it’s worth noting that Sardar Ji 3 is skipping its release in India, due to political tension between Pakistan and India.
Indian Audiences React Sharply
Despite all the excitement surrounding it, the film has sparked considerable outrage in India, primarily due to the casting of Hania Aamir. With tensions between India and Pakistan flaring up earlier this year, many Indian netizens took to social media to voice their discontent. They were particularly vocal about having a Pakistani actress in a Punjabi film, which is usually celebrated across both countries.
The backlash grew stronger when it was confirmed that the film wouldn’t be shown in Indian cinemas. Initially, fans in India were thrilled, but the ongoing political turmoil has changed the conversation. Hania Aamir, who is well-respected for her talent, now finds herself in the middle of these diplomatic tensions.
Shortly after the trailer dropped, hashtags like #BoycottSardaarJi3 began trending on social media. Yet, there were also voices from both sides calling for peace, encouraging everyone to appreciate art rather than get caught up in politics. Nevertheless, the divide still lingers.
Global Release Goes Ahead
Sardar Ji 3 will be released worldwide, including regions like North America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. The official release date is locked in for June 27, 2025.
White Hill Studios took to social media to clarify their stance: “We respect all sentiments, but our focus remains on entertaining audiences globally. Unfortunately, the film won’t be available in India at this time.”
While the news has left some fans in India disappointed, international audiences are eagerly awaiting the chance to see the film on the big screen.
On another note, Hania Aamir has chosen to stay quiet amid the controversy.
With its international release confirmed and the trailer generating a buzz, Sardaar Ji 3 is poised to become one of the biggest Punjabi films of 2025, no matter which borders it can or cannot cross.

CEO CBD Punjab Imran Amin said, “CBD Route 47 is a landmark addition to Lahore’s urban landscape, ushering in a new era of smart, sustainable infrastructure. It sets a benchmark for future developments across Punjab.”
One of the route’s standout features is its dedicated cycle lane, encouraging eco-friendly and healthy commuting. Additionally, it boasts Pakistan’s first electricity-generating sidewalk, equipped with solar panels capable of producing up to 1 megawatt of clean energy. These solar panels not only supply power to the city but also provide shaded, environmentally friendly pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, reflecting CBD Punjab’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting green infrastructure.
Architectural highlights, including thoughtfully designed monuments and an artificial lake, enhance the route’s urban aesthetics, creating a space that is both functional and inspiring.
COO CBD Punjab Brigadier (Retd.) Mansoor Janjua congratulated the people of Lahore, stating, “CBD Route 47 is a unique project that fulfills our promise to the citizens. Under the Chief Minister’s leadership, CBD Punjab is steadily advancing toward building a progressive and prosperous province.”
CBD Route 47 is expected to dramatically reduce travel time between Gulberg and Walton, streamline daily commutes, and stimulate economic growth by improving connectivity.
Ashura 2025 is expected to be observed on Sunday, July 6, in Pakistan, based on astronomical predictions.
Experts suggest that the new Islamic year, 1447 Hijri, is likely to start on Friday, June 27. This is because astronomical forecasts show that the Muharram moon will not be visible on the evening of June 25.
Astronomers noted that the moon’s conjunction is expected at 3:31 pm on June 25. Due to this timing, it is unlikely the crescent will be visible that evening with the naked eye in South Asia or the Middle East.
However, there might be some chance of moon visibility using telescopes in select areas of the United States.
According to astronomers, the best chance of the moon being visible is on Wednesday evening, June 26. This supports the prediction that Muharram will begin on Friday, June 27, in Pakistan and most other countries.
Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is expected to meet on June 26 to confirm the moon sighting and officially announce the beginning of the Islamic year.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has announced the imposition of Section 144 across the province from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram ul Haram.
According to the home department’s spokesman, pillion riding will be banned on the 9th and 10th of Muharram to maintain law and order.

Last week, Field Marshal General Asim Munir was given the red-carpet treatment in the White House as the military leader had lunch with US President Donald Trump in the White House. This marks a pivot in the historically rocky ties between Pakistan and the US.
Previously seen as a poor democracy and a sponsor of state terrorism, Pakistan’s image is evolving as the country seeks stronger diplomatic ties with Washington.
While diplomatic ties with the US will bear fruit in economic terms, it also puts Pakistan’s long-standing friendship with China in the crossfire.
Field Marshal Asim Munir recently met Donald Trump
Eyeing US Investment in Cryptocurrency and Critical Minerals
The restoration of US-Pakistan diplomatic ties couldn’t come at a more volatile phase during the ongoing Iran-Israel war that could spiral into a massive regional conflict. During this conflict Pakistan can prove to be a valuable asset. The US could leverage Pakistan’s religious and political ties with Iran to negotiate a peace treaty or compromise with Tehran, helping Washington prevent a massive war.
Pakistan also has a lot to gain from these renewed ties with the US, with reported engagement in volatile and lucrative sectors, including cryptocurrency and critical minerals. There was also discussion on counterterrorism.
Michael Kugelman, a South Asian analyst, speaking on the Munir-Trump meeting, stated:
“There’s been US-Pakistan engagement on crypto, minerals and counter-terrorism, and Trump takes a deep personal interest in all of these.”
However, a shift of allegiances towards Washington could irk China, one of America’s strongest rivals, and a reliable ally to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Pakistan is heavily reliant on China for military and economic aid. Furthermore, long-term investments, such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), have spearheaded employment and infrastructure development.
Beijing’s productive ties with Islamabad serve as a bulwark against Indian influence in the region. Access to the Arabian Sea is another bonus. For the longest time, both parties have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship.
Pakistan Needs to Achieve a Delicate Equilibrium
Pakistan finds itself walking on a dangerous tight rope. It must maintain strong socioeconomic and political ties with China and foster a healthy diplomatic relationship with the US.
An effective solution would see issue-specific cooperation with the US, focused on digital technology and distant from the delicate matters of regional conflicts and military aid. Pakistan should continue its economic projects with China and encourage investment.
However, the end goal should be for the state to minimise over-reliance on the superpowers. Unquestionable subservience to either side is wrong, but productive friendships ought to do more good than harm.

On Friday, ARY Digital dropped the official teaser for its highly anticipated drama, Main Manto Nahi Hoon. The show features a stellar main cast, including Humayun Saeed, Sajal Aly, and Sanam Saeed, along with a strong supporting lineup of Asif Raza Mir, Salman Shahid, Saba Faisal, Hajra Yamin, Nameer Khan, and Azaan Sami Khan.
Written by the highly praised Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, known for his work on Meray Paas Tum Ho, and directed by the renowned Nadeem Baig, this drama has quickly grabbed the public’s attention, though it hasn’t been without its share of criticism.
While the teaser only offers brief glimpses into the plot, it hints at deep themes surrounding marriage, family strife, and emotional depth.
A few moments catch the eye:
Sajal Aly is seen in a gorgeous bridal outfit
Nameer Khan is depicted using a gun
Asif Raza Mir takes on the role of her father.
Even with the limited information available, these snippets have ignited both excitement and concern among viewers.
Mixed Reactions
While the production features stunning visuals and a top-notch cast, the initial buzz online consists of mixed reviews. A lot of fans have raised eyebrows over the age difference between the lead actors, Humayun and Sajal. Some even felt that their chemistry came off as forced.
Another hot topic was Humayun Saeed’s look. One viewer remarked that he resembled a “stressed-out teacher”more than a romantic hero, while another straightforwardly labelled his appearance as giving off “uncle vibes.”
These comments highlight a larger issue regarding the trend of casting older male leads alongside much younger actresses, which many viewers believe should end.
Social media reactionsSocial media reactions
However, not all the feedback was negative. Several viewers found the teaser intriguing and described the production as “larger-than-life.”Others applauded the strong performances, especially excited to see veteran actors like Salman Shahid and Saba Faisal making their return to television.

All Eyes on the Premiere Next Month
Despite the mixed reactions, Main Manto Nahi Houn is still one of the most talked-about upcoming dramas. With a strong pedigree, Qamar’s writing, combined with Baig’s direction, makes this drama is standout in the 2025 TV scene.
With its release just around the corner, the stakes are high. Whether it meets the expectations or falters, Main Manto Nahi Houn has already done well to ignite discussions. For now, the industry and its audience will be keeping a close eye on it.

The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has sent his foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, to Moscow to personally deliver a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He asked for more support following the most significant U.S. military attack on Iran since the 1979 revolution.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Israel have both publicly hinted at the possibility of killing Khamenei and pursuing regime change in Iran. This has raised alarm in Moscow, where officials believe such actions could push the Middle East into deeper chaos.
While President Putin has openly condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iran, he has not commented on the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Last week, however, he called for restraint and offered Moscow’s help to mediate the escalating nuclear crisis.
A senior source informed Reuters that Araqchi’s mission to Moscow includes handing over a letter from Khamenei and asking for more decisive backing from Russia.
Moreover, Iranian sources also told Reuters that Tehran is not satisfied with the current level of support. They want Moscow to do more, although they didn’t specify the kind of assistance expected.
Iran Asks Putin for Stronger Support
The Kremlin confirmed that Putin would meet with Araqchi, but didn’t provide details on the agenda.
Speaking to TASS, Araqchi said Iran and Russia are “coordinating their positions on the current escalation in the Middle East.” Putin has repeatedly offered to mediate between Iran and the U.S.
He stated that Russia had shared proposals with both countries and is committed to ensuring Iran’s continued access to peaceful nuclear energy.
Last week, Putin refused to discuss whether the U.S. or Israel would target Khamenei. He added that Israel had given security assurances for Russian personnel working on two new nuclear reactors at Iran’s Bushehr facility.
Russia remains a long-time ally of Iran and holds influence as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council and as a former signatory to the nuclear deal that Trump abandoned during his first term in 2018.
Despite this history, Russia’s current stance is cautious.
With the Ukraine war entering its fourth year, President Putin has shown no public interest in confronting the United States over Iran, especially as Trump appears to be working on restoring ties with Moscow.

A new language study has proved Americans to be the most profane online English users. The researchers scrutinised 1.7 billion words from blogs, news sites, and websites. Americans use more curse words than any other group of people.
The Surprising Online Tough Guy
The research didn’t look at Twitter and Facebook, but was limited to general internet content. Nonetheless, the results surprised many, including the Australian researchers themselves, who thought their nation would top the list.
Instead, Australians took the third place. The British ranked second. Americans cursed the most with 36 filthy words per 100,000. Brits were next with 25. Aussies were close behind at 22.
Why Americans Curse More
Anonymity is a big factor, says co-author Martin Schweinberger. “People tend to say things online they wouldn’t say face-to-face,”he said. Cultural tolerance for profanity is different, too. “Americans are more lenient online,” Schweinberger said.
He pointed out that in person, Americans swear less than many other English-speaking people. However, behind a keyboard, they open up and show their true colours.
The Dataset and Its Scope
The research took place across 20 English-speaking countries. Researchers constructed a database of 600 profanities. They consisted of popular curse words, acronyms such as “WTF,” and others.
They then counted how frequently these occurred throughout the dataset. Bangladesh proved to be the most courteous, with just 7 curses for every 100,000 words.
Americans tend to be the rudest people on the internet.
Social Media Tells a Different Story
While social media sites were not included in the primary study, researchers examined them in isolation. The biggest swearers on social media? New Zealanders, then the Irish, then Australians.
In everyday conversation, America places a low value on vulgarity, revealing a divide between online and offline conduct.
Swearing as a Cultural Indicator
Linguists indicate that deciphering swearing is more than a matter of tallying profanity. New Zealand linguist Andrea Calude said it’s a matter of local identity.
“Language indicates membership and non-membership,”she said. “Even in cyberspace, communities determine the use of English.”
Schweinberger concurred. He once cursed informally in front of Americans, and immediately noticed their expressions change. “It was like I’d done something horrible,” he remembered.
His lesson: Saying dirty words isn’t always a bad thing. It’s just when and where to say them.

The U.S. has officially joined the Israel-Iran war. The world is now waiting with bated breath for what follows. Missiles fly across the skies. Explosions shake cities. And millions of civilians worry their homes might be next.
Civilians Caught in the Crossfire
In Jordan, Rawan Muhaidat, 28, curls up with her children each time an Iranian rocket whizzes over their heads. Her village, Kafr Asad, isn’t even in the combat zone. But war doesn’t recognise borders. “Each time a rocket detonates, we say to ourselves, ‘This is the one,'”she says.
Muhaidat is one of the millions who are suffering because of the ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel. These people are not soldiers; they’re in the middle and hence affected.
Trump Orders Strikes on Iran
President Donald Trump made the public announcement late Saturday that U.S. forces had bombed three major nuclear facilities in Iran, including Fordo, a highly buried complex. Only American bunker-buster bombs could penetrate it. Trump described it as necessary. Iran described it as an act of war.
Experts caution that this may invite retaliation. Iran may strike at U.S. bases, attack allies, or, through proxies, such as Yemen’s Houthis, disrupt oil and commerce. The effects may spread throughout the global economy.
The Regional Shift in Power
This war is a watershed moment. Israel and Iran have fought from the shadows for decades. Now, it’s public knowledge. Israel claims to be keeping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran, however, claims it is a peaceful programme.
Arab nations look on anxiously. They don’t believe in Iran, but they also fault Israel. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE don’t seek war. Their people want peace, but do the governments too?
Source: Converse
Some leaders secretly back the strikes. Iran’s regional surrogates, in Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, have been a thorn in the side of Arab governments for years.
A Dangerous New Era
The conflict started with an Israeli surprise attack on June 13. Both sides have escalated since then. Scores have been killed. Civilians, hospitals, and infrastructure are targeted.
Israel seeks regime change in Iran. Iran threatens the U.S. with “irreparable harm.”
The United Nations seems helpless. Europe’s peace initiatives have collapsed. Trump scuttled talks categorically.
As missiles continue to fly, one question hangs in the air: How far will this go, and who will pay the price next?

Jasprit Bumrah took a fiery five-for at Headingley, which didn’t just help India gain a crucial edge over England, it also lit the fuse on a fierce debate, thanks to former India pacer Varun Aaron. His claim? Bumrah is better than Wasim Akram.
A Compliment or a Controversy?
Speaking on a podcast after Bumrah’s performance, Aaron didn’t hold back.
“Calling him a genius would be an understatement,” he said.
“He’s now gone past Wasim Akram in terms of wickets in SENA countries. That says it all for me.
“Wasim was arguably the best fast bowler to walk the face of the earth—and Bumrah is pretty much the same, if not better.”
And just like that, Aaron dropped a comparison bomb that split cricket fans into two camps: Bumrah’s new-age believers and Wasim’s old-school loyalists.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Let’s take a breath and look at the numbers.
Jasprit Bumrah now has 150 Test wickets in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) conditions, more than any other Asian bowler. And he did it in just 60 innings.
Compare that to:
Wasim Akram – 146 wickets
Anil Kumble – 141
Ishant Sharma – 130
Muttiah Muralitharan – 125
That alone is no small feat. But it gets better.
Bumrah also matched Kapil Dev’s long-standing Indian record of 12 five-wicket hauls in away Tests, needing just 34 matches to do so—Kapil did it in 66.
Here’s how India’s top overseas five-for list looks:
Jasprit Bumrah – 12 (in 34 matches)
Kapil Dev – 12 (in 66 matches)
Ishant Sharma – 9
Zaheer Khan – 8
Irfan Pathan – 7
Jasprit Bumrah’s Magic at Headingley
If you missed the Headingley Test, here’s a quick recap of Bumrah’s hit list:
Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Josh Tongue. Classic Bumrah—wrist-snap, seam movement, and pinpoint yorkers. He made a strong England batting lineup look pedestrian.
Now, here’s the thing. Comparing across eras is always tricky. Different pitches, different formats, different fitness standards. Wasim Akram operated with reverse swing wizardry in the ’90s, often with a semi-cooked ball and no luxury of reviews.
Bumrah, meanwhile, is a product of the modern game—fitness, data analysis, and biomechanics. But here’s what’s undeniable: Bumrah is doing things no Asian fast bowler has done before, and he’s doing it in style.
Whether or not he’s “better” than Wasim is subjective. But he’s certainly entering a league of his own.

Hasan Ali is back in the spotlight—and this time, it’s for a milestone that cements his place among Pakistan’s T20 greats.
Currently turning out for the Birmingham Bears in the ongoing Men’s Vitality Blast 2025, the fiery right-arm pacer has become the ninth Pakistani bowler to claim 300 wickets in T20 cricket.
He reached the landmark in just 210 matches, a feat that speaks volumes about his consistency and longevity in the shortest format.
A Growing Legacy
With this achievement, Hasan joins an exclusive group that includes household names like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. His current T20 wicket tally stands at 301, and he has now become the 39th cricketer globally to reach the 300-wicket mark in T20s.
Not bad for someone who’s had his share of ups and downs on the international stage.
Here’s a quick look at the top Pakistani bowlers in T20 history:
Wahab Riaz – 413 wickets
Sohail Tanvir – 389 wickets
Mohammad Amir – 384 wickets
Imad Wasim – 365 wickets
Shahid Afridi – 347 wickets
Shadab Khan – 345 wickets
Haris Rauf – 321 wickets
Shaheen Afridi – 310 wickets
Hasan Ali – 301 wickets
Globally, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan leads the pack with a jaw-dropping 643 wickets in 477 games.
Strong Start to Vitality Blast for Hasan Ali
Hasan’s milestone comes on the back of a solid run of form in the 2025 Vitality Blast. Representing the Bears, he has played six matches, picking up 12 wickets at an average of 17.33.
Sure, his economy rate of 9.38 suggests he’s leaking a few, but his knack for breakthroughs remains unmatched.
The Birmingham Bears, meanwhile, are fighting to stay in the playoff race. They currently sit sixth in the North Group, with four wins and four losses from their eight matches—good enough for 16 points.
