Karachi, December 27, 2024: The shareholders of Bank Makramah Limited (BML) have overwhelmingly approved the Scheme of Arrangement for the restructuring of the bank in their Extraordinary General Meeting held on December 26, 2024. The scheme, filed before the Islamabad High Court, received an extraordinary 99.99% of votes in favor.
This pivotal initiative, undertaken under Sections 279 to 283 and 285(8) of the Companies Act, 2017, aims to align BML with the State Bank of Pakistan’s regulatory capital requirements while enhancing its financial position. The implementation of the restructuring scheme is projected to strengthen BML’s net assets by approximately Rs. 29.39 billion, reinforcing its foundation and positioning it as a resilient financial institution capable of effectively serving its stakeholders.
The Restructuring Scheme comprises four key stages: (i) the amalgamation of GHDL’s undertaking into BML; (ii) the issuance and allotment of fully paid ordinary shares of BML to GHDL shareholders; (iii) the settlement of the TFC Redemption Amount through the issuance and allotment of fully paid ordinary shares of BML to TFC Holders; and (iv) the reduction of BML’s share capital by canceling the Share Capital Unrepresented by Available Assets.
This restructuring initiative signifies a significant milestone in BML’s journey towards financial stability and growth.

Cities will have to be designed to withstand heatwaves and thunderstorms; agriculture must also change to cope with different weather patterns.
Is it too late to reverse global warming? The answer is more nuanced than a simple “yes” or “no.” It’s not too late to avoid the worst impacts, but we must act urgently. The choices we make in the next decade will determine the future of our planet.

Authorities in Makkah have introduced free luggage storage services for Umrah pilgrims, providing added convenience during their spiritual journey. According to the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, these storage facilities are located to the east of the Grand Mosque near the Makkah Library and to the west near Gate 64.
Pilgrims can access the service by presenting their permits via the Nusuk app, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The facilities allow storage of bags weighing up to 7kg for a maximum of four hours. Loose items, valuables, prohibited goods, food and medicine are not accepted. Pilgrims must provide a claim ticket to retrieve their belongings. The authority has announced plans to expand this service to all areas surrounding the Grand Mosque to further enhance visitor convenience.

For New Year’s Eve, Commissioner Karachi has imposed Section 144 Karachi-wide for two days, December 31 and January 1, banning aerial firing, the use of firecrackers and carrying firearms.
“I do hereby impose a complete ban on carrying/ display of arms, aerial firing and use of firecrackers on New Year’s Eve 2025 within the limits of Karachi Division for a period of two days, with effect from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025,” said Commissioner Karachi, Naqvi.
The ban has been imposed at the request of the deputy inspector general (DIG) of the police, South Zone. The DIG said a slew of youngsters will go to the Seaview area on motorcycles and cars for the celebrations of New Year. This creates traffic jams and inconvenience to the residents of the area.
“It has been further observed that on New Year’s Eve, some individuals get involved in aerial firing that may cause untoward incidents or even loss of human lives,” the official added. Hence, he requested, that a ban may be imposed to safeguard the precious lives of the citizens.
