Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed returned with bowling figures of 7-19 to break the record of Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match at Shere Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.
The 29-year-old pacer, who is playing for Durbar Rajshahi, took three wickets in the final over against Dhaka Capital to record the best bowling figures in the history of BPL. His record spell restricted Dhaka Capital to 174-9 in the first innings. In response, Durbar Rajshahi successfully chased the target in 18.1 overs at the loss of three wickets, thanks to skipper Anamul Haque’s unbeaten 73.
Prior to Taskin Ahmed, the record for best bowling figures in BPL was held by Mohammad Amir. The Pakistan pacer recorded the figures of 6-17 while playing for the Khulna Tigers against Sylhet Royals, in the 2020 edition of the league.
It’s worth noting that Taskin’s bowling figures are the third-best figures in T20 cricket across the globe. The record for the best bowling figures in T20 cricket is currently held by Malaysia’s talented Syazrul Idrus. He astoundingly took 7 wickets after conceding only 8 runs in a T20I match against China in 2023. Meanwhile, Netherlands’ Colin Ackermann is in second position with his figures of 7-18 while playing for Leicestershire in England’s Vitality Blast against the Birmingham Bears.

At least 20 drowned after a small migrant boat capsised on its precarious journey from Libya to Italy. Only seven managed to survive and landed on Lampedusa, a small Italian island. Among those missing are five women and three children, showing us how desperate conditions have become the source of such dangerous routes.
A Dangerous Route with Deadly Consequences
The ill-fated vessel left port at Zuwara, Libya, late Monday, capsising into the early Tuesday morning. A body has been reported recovered without much success despite all rescue endeavours so far conducted. This comes after the stark figures of central Mediterranean deaths numbering close to 24,500 since the year 2014, statistics published by IOM.
Source: Deccan Herald
It has been described that the central Mediterranean route, from North Africa to southern Europe, is the deadliest migration route globally. For most people, it is the only hope for a life free of poverty, war, and persecution. Libya and Tunisia are considered departure points; however, political chaos in those countries heightens the risks taken by migrants.
Italy has been trying to balance humanitarian concerns with national policy in its complex dynamics of migration. The Italian government recently introduced measures to curb migrant departures, claiming that such steps are necessary to prevent deaths at sea. In 2024, migrant landings in Italy declined to 66,320, a sharp drop from the 157,651 recorded the previous year.
However, this statistics only hides the worst side of this scenario. With stricter controls along the border, migrants find themselves stuck in risky situations in places like Libya and Tunisia. More often, a move to migrate across the dangerous crossing between Libya or Tunisia is one driven by need, not by choice.

The Urgency for a Global Solution
This tragedy makes it a time of crying urgency that there be international coordination on matters that affect this root cause. Authorities should prioritise safe pathways and legal entry as well as keeping the dignity intact of those with hope to escape despair.
So long as it is so, the Mediterranean Sea will both serve as a grave and symbol for those who risk everything for hope. As the world marks another year, the voices of the lost echo across the waves, urging us to confront the human cost of inaction

A Tesla Cybertruck carrying fuel canisters and firework mortars exploded outside the Trump Hotel’s glass entrance in Las Vegas. The incident killed the driver and injured seven others. Police have not released the names of the individuals involved but confirmed all injuries were minor. The truck, rented in Colorado, arrived in Las Vegas less than two hours before the explosion.
Dramatic footage showed the truck parked before exploding, sending bursts of colourful fireworks in all directions. Sheriff Kevin McMahill shared images of the aftermath, revealing charred remains, fuel canisters and firework mortars. Officials are investigating potential connections to a deadly truck attack in New Orleans earlier the same day.
President Joe Biden stated that the White House is tracking the Las Vegas explosion and its possible connection to New Orleans. “Law enforcement and the intelligence community are investigating this as well, including whether there’s any possible connection with the attack in New Orleans,” he said during an evening address.
The FBI has not confirmed whether the incident was an act of terrorism or linked to the Islamic State group. A Turo spokesperson confirmed both vehicles involved in the incidents were rented through their app and noted that the renters had no known criminal backgrounds. Sheriff McMahill reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the Las Vegas community.
Emergency responders quickly extinguished the fire, and guests were evacuated to other locations. Eric Trump, President-elect Donald Trump’s son, thanked first responders for their professionalism, stating, “The safety and well-being of our guests and staff remain our top priority.”

In 2024, Pakistan earned a distinction in internet shutdowns, ranking second in the world. With 1,861 hours of disruptions, only Myanmar surpassed Pakistan in this troubling metric. These shutdowns were not only problematic during everyday life, but also impacted Pakistan’s digital economy. While the global demand for the Internet is growing, Pakistan seems to be ageing backwards. The frequent blackouts suggest a critical issue that requires urgent attention.
A Major Setback for Pakistan’s Digital Economy
The Top10VPN report revealed that Pakistan’s internet shutdowns cost the economy an estimated $351 million in 2024. The disruptions caused by the blackouts affected nearly 83 million users. These numbers account for over 40% of the top 15 most vulnerable nations. What’s even more concerning is the duration of these shutdowns. They rapidly increased by a horrifying 619% from 259 hours in 2023. These statistics pushed Pakistan from seventh to second place globally.
Each hour of these shutdowns cost Pakistan a rough $1 million, according to the Pakistan Software House Association (P@SHA). This is a staggering number for an economy that is already victim to increasing inflation and numerous other crises. The information and communication technology (ICT) sector, brought in $3.3 billion in 2024, trailing only textiles and food. They are a key contributor to Pakistan’s economy. However, these disruptions raised operational costs for tech companies and discouraged them from bringing in additional foreign exchange.
The industry has also estimated that undocumented exports are nearly the same as the documented figures. This suggests that while the government works on improving exports, the frequent shutdowns are causing unmeasurable losses.
Pakistan Ranks Second Globally in Internet Shutdowns in 2024
Declining Internet Access and Quality
Internet usage in Pakistan has also seen a steady decline. Sources suggest that the web traffic in the country dropped throughout most of 2024, with only 30 days in the first 11 months showing positive growth. Unfortunately, this contrasts sharply with the global average of 17% growth.
Adding to the problem, Pakistan’s internet speed remains extremely slow. The average download speed in Pakistan stands at 22MBps. This is far behind regional peers like the Philippines (97MBps), Bangladesh (37MBps), and Indonesia (31MBps). This poor quality of the internet further disadvantages the tech sector.
These increasing rates of internet shutdowns position Pakistan as the second-highest country in the category. The internet disruptions not only cost the economy millions but also remove confidence in the country. It gives the impression that services are unreliable. As a nation with significant potential in the IT sector, this issue needs to be addressed. If not, Pakistan risks falling behind in the global digital race.

January 2nd is World Introvert Day, a day to celebrate the often-underestimated power of introversion, especially in leadership. While nearly 57% of the world’s population prefers introversion, most leadership positions are skewed toward extroverts. Societal norms and unconscious biases often perpetuate the idea that effective leaders must be outgoing and charismatic, but introverted leaders bring unique strengths that can transform workplaces.
The Bias Towards Extraversion in Leadership
Common leadership traits such as assertiveness, visibility, and drama or flamboyance are associated in most cultures with extraversion, especially in countries like the U.S. A recent UK survey also showed that 9 out of 10 individuals reported being pressured to be more extraverted than they would otherwise naturally be. However, national culture itself can overcome the stereotypes linking extraversion to successful leadership. For instance, countries like Singapore and Zambia, respectively, have demonstrated how introverted leaders can make significant contributions.
Source: Inseptia
It is unconscious biases that have become significant in leadership selection. Humans have the tendency to promote people who think and behave like them, leaving aside those who are quieter and contemplative. However, this bias forgets the creative and novel natures that introverts bring forth in leadership positions.
Introverts are excellent at activities that include deep thinking careful decision-making and creating meaningful one-on-one connections. Their tendencies to listen and think before communicating can lead to more thoughtful approaches and the devising of more inclusive decisions. Such novelties hold space to let different ideas germinate by favouring reflection above reaction.
Source: Qrius
Some Tips for Expressing Introversion in Leadership
Let time to think: Introverts feel most themselves when they are allowed to reflect. A manager can allow space for brainstorming or schedule uninterrupted time to focus on certain tasks.
Listen actively: When introverts speak, their words have weight, for they have considered them carefully. An environment in which their voices are heard builds better team dynamics.
Select Your Communication Channels: In most cases, written communication or one-to-one communication works best for introverted team members. Managers need to be aware of these needs and enhance teamwork through them.
Give Them Time to Recharge: Introverts gain energy from being alone. By being aware of this need and allowing quiet time, they are more productive and creative.
As we celebrate World Introvert Day, let us recognise the quiet strength of introverted leaders. Their unique approach enriches teams, fosters innovation, and reminds us that leadership is not about volume but vision.

Meghan Markle marked the beginning of 2025 by joining Instagram once more after a five-year hiatus. The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram with serene beach moments in white, one where she drew “2025” on the sand. The account @meghan, which managed to collect over 200,000 followers within hours, indicated her enduring influence.
Meghan’s social media break started in 2020 when Meghan and Prince Harry stepped down from their roles as senior royals. Her earlier Sussex Royal account, created in 2019, served as a venue for announcements such as the birth of her son, Archie, and the decision to step down from royal duties, famously known as “Megxit.”
The Duchess’s social media presence is even older than her royal journey. As an actress on the popular TV series Suits, Meghan had a very popular Instagram account where she shared glimpses of her life. However, before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, she deactivated all her accounts because of royal protocols and personal reasons.
A Thoughtful Comeback
In an interview with The Cut in 2022, Meghan continued to dangle the prospect of returning to Instagram but addressed some concerns, mentioning the problem of online harassment. For years, both Meghan and Harry have spoken out about the dangers of social media, especially its effects on mental health and young users. In 2023, they demanded greater content control across the platforms.
Her New Year’s post appears to be thoughtfully constructed return, representing themes of renewal and optimism. Selecting the simple handle @meghan emphasises her personal relationship with the platform and distances herself from the formality of royal life.
More Than a Social Media Post
Meghan’s return to Instagram is more than a personal milestone; it’s a statement of her evolving public image. Known for using her platform to champion causes, promote philanthropy, and share authentic glimpses of her life, her re-emergence suggests she may once again blend personal expression with advocacy.

As 2025 begins, the Duchess’s return to social media invites curiosity about her future endeavours. Whether sharing snippets of family life, promoting charitable initiatives, or addressing societal issues, Meghan’s Instagram comeback signals a fresh chapter in her journey.

Pakistan, with its bold initiative, is making strides in the aviation industry. It is planning to train pilots and later export them to international airlines. The Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Nadir Shafi Dar, announced the plan during a recent press briefing. The initiative aims to control the preexisting regional shortage of cockpit crew. Moreover, it also positions Pakistan as a hub for skilled aviation professionals.
Addressing Regional Pilot Shortages
The CAA aims to supply the increasing demand for cockpit pilots in the Asia-Pacific region. Nadir Shafi Dar has emphasised that while Pakistan produces enough pilots for its local airlines, the surplus will now be offered to foreign names. This innovative initiative has already garnered interest from two international organisations, which has resulted in the beginning of Phase 1 of the project.
In Phase 1, 12 Pakistani candidates underwent ground training locally and flight training at an academy in Sharjah. Consequently, eight of these pilots have secured jobs with domestic airlines. The specialised training course includes everything from initial cockpit lessons to full commercial pilot certification. These courses are designed to ensure that pilots are well-prepared for global aviation markets.
Civil Aviation Authority
Pakistan Enters a New Era for Aviation
To improve the legitimacy of this initiative, the CAA finalised agreements with international organisations. These agreements ensure that global airlines cover the cost of pilot training, typically ranging from PKR 10 to 15 million. The programme guarantees employment to those who enrol, making it a cost-effective and career-secure opportunity for aspiring pilots.
What’s even more exciting is that the CAA is establishing training academies in Pakistan. It also encourages local flying clubs to expand facilities to meet the rising demand for pilot training. CAA highlights that these developments will enhance Pakistan’s aviation industry and create promising careers for young talents.
The CAA’s initiative to train and export pilots is a win-win for both Pakistan and beyond. This training programme aims to address the regional shortage of skilled cockpit crew while also creating lucrative opportunities for Pakistan. International companies are already on board and plan to establish local academies and flying clubs. If Pakistanis continue to prioritise training and guarantee job placements then there is no doubt in the success of this country.

The fight against inflation in Pakistan FY 2024 reflects an economy struggling with uncertainty despite recent glimmers of hope. Inflation was averaging 26% between July and April, which, although a slight decline from the previous year’s 28.2%, has seen a dramatic decrease in year-on-year inflation from 36.4% in April 2023 to 17.3% in April 2024. Yet, these statistics hide a tale of woe, as lived by the ordinary Pakistani.
Root Causes of Rising Prices
The root causes of this crisis are multi-faceted. Supply-demand imbalances, soaring energy prices, and currency depreciation are the top culprits. However, global factors, like the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which disrupted supply chains, added to the domestic challenges, such as the devastating 2022 floods. These forces combined to push basic necessities, from food to fuel, out of reach for many. Wheat flour and rice, among other basic items, saw alarming price hikes, which were quite skewed toward the lower-income class.
Source: Times
Food and energy price hikes increased by 28.4% because of steep tariffs and a weakened rupee. It’s devastating for families stretched at the seams. Even some comfort is found in better crop yields and falling global commodity prices; food inflation in Pakistan remains unrelenting with fresh food rising by 18.5% in FY 2024.
Government Interference: A Step Forward but Not Enough
Government measures, such as the more substantial Ramadan Relief Package and an intensified crackdown on hoarding and smuggling, provide some relief but hardly tackle systemic issues. Since stabilising, the exchange rate has already eased inflationary pressure. It is more or less akin to applying a bandage on a wound that needs surgery.
Pakistan needs bold, long-term economic reforms. Structural inefficiencies, dependence on imports, and underperforming agriculture need to be addressed aggressively. Energy policies need an overhaul for sustainable and affordable supply. Domestic production investment, especially in agriculture, can reduce dependency on volatile global markets.
Source: Daily Destination
Based over the official document for the year 2024 on Finance.gov.pk, here is a detailed analysis of Pakistan’s inflation during FY 2024, focusing on the trends, causes, and government actions to manage rising prices.
1. Overall Inflation Trends in Pakistan:
CPI Inflation: During the period from July-April FY 2024, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation was recorded at 26.0%, which marks a slight improvement from 28.2% during the same period last year.
Year-on-Year Changes: Year-on-year (YoY) inflation dropped to 17.3% in April 2024 from 36.4% in April 2023, representing a significant reduction. In March 2024, inflation stood at 20.7%, so the April numbers reflect a marked month-on-month decline. Similarly, month-on-month (MoM) inflation dropped from an increase of 1.7% in March 2024 to just 0.4% in April 2024.
Inflation Peaked in 2023: Pakistan saw a peak in inflation at 38% in May 2023, which was one of the highest levels recorded.
2. Causes of Inflation in Pakistan:
Supply-Demand Imbalance: The primary driver of inflation in Pakistan was the imbalance between demand and supply. Excessive demand for goods and services, combined with supply-side constraints, led to higher prices.
Energy Prices: Rising energy prices, largely due to currency depreciation and global oil price fluctuations, played a significant role. Energy costs for households (including electricity and gas) increased by 28.4% in FY 2024, compared to 13.6% in FY 2023.
Import Costs: The exchange rate depreciation worsened inflation by increasing the costs of imported goods and services. Non-perishable food items, for example, saw a 26.7% price increase during July-April FY 2024 compared to 36.4% the previous year.
Global Factors: The global disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict exacerbated food and energy supply chain issues. Additionally, inflation was driven by domestic economic conditions such as currency depreciation and 2022 floods, which severely impacted agricultural output.
3. Sector-specific Impact:
Food Inflation: Food inflation remained high, though it saw some relief due to improved domestic crop yields and declining global commodity prices. Non-perishable food items increased by 26.7%, while perishable items saw an increase of 18.5% compared to a 47.0% rise last year. Essential food items like tomatoes, onions, and potatoes saw significant price hikes.
Housing and Energy: Inflation in the Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels category surged by 28.4% in FY 2024, a substantial rise from 13.6% in the previous year. This increase is attributed to higher energy tariffs and the depreciation of the Pakistani Rupee.
4. Government Measures to Curb Inflation in Pakistan:
Ramadan Relief Package: The government enhanced the Ramadan Relief Package from PKR 7.5 billion to PKR 12.5 billion, providing essential items at subsidized rates.
Price Control Efforts: Federal and provincial governments intensified administrative measures, including crackdowns on illegal foreign exchange operations, hoarding, and smuggling. These measures contributed to stabilizing exchange rates and ensuring smoother supply chains.
Exchange Rate Stability: Actions taken to control illegal foreign exchange activities helped stabilize the exchange rate, further easing inflationary pressures.
5. Core Inflation:
Urban Core Inflation: During the period July-April FY 2024, core inflation (which excludes volatile food and energy prices) in urban areas was recorded at 16.9%, while rural core inflation was higher at 24.0%. This was a slight increase from the previous year’s urban core inflation of 15.6% and rural core inflation of 19.4%.
6. Wholesale Price Index (WPI):
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) saw a decline from 27.3% in December 2023 to 13.9% in April 2024. Overall, WPI inflation rose by 22.4% during July-April FY 2024, compared to 34.1% during the same period last year. This reduction in wholesale inflation is attributed to reduced pressures on food and energy prices.
7. Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI):
The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), which tracks the prices of essential commodities weekly, showed a YoY increase of 30.2% during July-April FY 2024, compared to 31.7% last year.
Major food items like wheat flour, rice, and sugar contributed significantly to the increase in SPI.
8. Global Context:
Global commodity prices also played a role in shaping domestic inflation in Pakistan. While prices of items like palm oil and soybean oil decreased by 6.9% year-on-year in April 2024, items like crude oil and rice saw price increases of 7.1% and 19.7%, respectively.
9. Future Outlook:
The report forecasts a further decline in inflation for FY 2024, expecting it to fall within the 23-24% range. The decline is attributed to a combination of fiscal consolidation, better global commodity prices, and stable food supplies. Political stability and steady exchange rates are also expected to contribute to this trend.
In the medium term (FY 2025 and FY 2026), inflation is expected to normalize further as the agriculture sector improves and global and domestic conditions stabilize.
If you want to learn more about last year’s financial report then feel free to download the complete document here.
Human Cost of Inflation
Inflation is not just an economic burden but a deep social one. It eats away at trust in institutions, fuels inequality, and destabilises communities. While inflation forecasts point to a gradual decline to 23-24% in FY 2024, complacency is not an option. Policymakers must seize this moment to implement transformative policies that prioritise the welfare of the most vulnerable while building resilience against future shocks.
The fight against inflation is not a fight of numbers; it is a fight for the dignity and survival of millions. Pakistan cannot afford half-measures but requires a bold vision and unwavering commitment to secure a stable and prosperous future.

Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh once again finds himself in the middle of a legal storm. A Ludhiana concert organised on December 31, 2024, at Punjab Agricultural University, created controversy after a Chandigarh-based assistant professor, Punditrao Dharennavar, filed a formal complaint.
Diljit’s repeated performances of songs that reportedly promote alcoholism have been a source of concern for Dharennavar. Tracks such as Patiala Pegg and 5 Tara Theke, even with modified lyrics, have been criticised for their influence on the younger generation.
In view of the complaint, the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Department, Punjab, moved a request to Ludhiana’s District Commissioner to stop Diljit from singing these tracks in the concert. In this regard, the notice focused only on the tracks she said promoted alcohol consumption and asserted their harm to innocent minds, especially children.
The petition referenced Dharennavar to a 2019 Punjab and Haryana High Court order, which ruled that songs with alcohol, drug, or violence-related support should not be played at public events. The court emphasised that the lyrics have long-term damaging effects on children.
Cultural Criticism
Dharennavar added another layer to the controversy when he criticised Diljit for performing such songs while wearing a pagadi, a symbol of Punjabi culture.
Despite these ongoing challenges, Diljit’s Dil-Luminati India Tour has remained a commercial success, with packed venues nationwide. However, the Ludhiana concert highlighted the ongoing debate over the social responsibility of artists in shaping public perceptions.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez ur Rehman clarified that sharks cannot damage the submarine cables. He was responding to the queries about internet disruption in Pakistan during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan.
During the meeting, committee members raised concerns about the internet speed and functionality of applications. One member mentioned that while the download speed was fine, applications were not functioning properly, and voice notes were not being sent.
In response, the PTA chairman assured that Pakistan currently has seven submarine cables, with four to five additional ones expected to be added soon. Two cables of these cables are scheduled to be completed within the year. He also shared that Pakistan ranks 97th in the world in terms of internet speed and clarified that submarine cables are impervious to sharks. This alluded to concerns about damage to the cables.
The PTA chairman explained that the body receives around 500 complaints daily regarding social media content, and the authority requests platforms to block certain material. While 80% of the content is blocked, 20% remains accessible. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Interior can direct PTA to take such actions as per the rules.

Karachi is expected to experience a deeper cold spell starting January 4 due to westerly winds entering the region, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). A brief respite from the chill is likely today and Friday, but icy winds following rains in Balochistan will lower temperatures further. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 13.5°C on Thursday, with a humidity level of 58% and six-kilometer-per-hour winds from the north. Cold and dry weather is expected to persist in the coming days.
In December 2024, Karachi’s temperatures fell to as low as 9.1°C and 9.5°C, highlighting the harshness of this winter season. Adding to the city’s challenges, Karachi is grappling with deteriorating air quality. On December 31, the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 237, a level considered “very unhealthy” by IQAir. PM2.5 pollutant levels were measured at 162 µg/m³, over 32 times higher than the WHO guidelines. Citizens have been advised to take precautions against the cold and limit exposure to polluted air.
Karachi and Lahore have ranked among the top 10 most polluted cities in the world, with Karachi in sixth place (AQI 208) and Lahore in ninth (AQI 191). Air pollution in Karachi has been worsened by rapid urbanisation, unchecked industrial emissions and growing vehicular traffic. Vulnerable groups like children and the elderly face severe health risks due to high levels of particulate matter (PM2.5).
Lahore faces an annual smog crisis due to emissions from brick kilns, crop burning and vehicular exhaust. Despite measures like introducing zigzag technology in brick kilns and vehicular inspection programmes, progress remains slow. The PMD continues to monitor the situation, urging residents to stay safe during the ongoing winter and pollution challenges.

The ICC Champions Trophy, often called the “Mini World Cup,” is just around the corner, kicking off on February 19, 2025 in Pakistan. As teams scramble to finalize their squads, Pakistan is reportedly gearing up to make some exciting recalls to defend their title.
A Balanced Squad in the Making
Reports suggest the Champions Trophy squad of Pakistan will include seven batters, four pacers, three spinners, and a lone wicket-keeper. It’s a well-thought-out balance, aiming to tackle the challenges posed by diverse conditions in Pakistan and the UAE.
Skipper Mohammad Rizwan is expected to handle wicket-keeping duties solo, leaving no room for a backup. This likely rules out Usman Khan, who was included as a reserve keeper during the South Africa series.
Pakistan’s pace attack is shaping up to be fierce, as always. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf are the mainstays, with Mohammad Hasnain vying for the fourth spot. These pacers will undoubtedly be key in exploiting the conditions, especially on UAE’s pace-friendly pitches.
On the spinning front, Shadab Khan is set to make a return to the team, with Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Maqeem expected to join him.
After a brief stint on the sidelines post-T20 World Cup 2024, Shadab’s stellar domestic performance has made a strong case for his inclusion. Scoring 120 runs and grabbing five wickets in the Champions One-Day Cup, he’s shown he’s ready to shine again.
In the batting department, the likely comebacks of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman bring both stability and aggression.
Imam’s ODI record speaks for itself, with an impressive career average of 48.27. He’s been in fine form domestically, piling up 212 runs at an average of 53.00 in the Champions One-Day Cup. His performance for the Lions in the Champions T20 tournament further cements his case.
On the other hand, Fakhar Zaman’s return adds a spark of aggression to the lineup. Despite missing recent tours, he made his mark in the Champions T20 tournament, scoring 303 runs, including two half-centuries. At 34, fitness remains a key factor for Fakhar, but his experience and firepower make him a valuable asset.
With the likely return of stars like Shadab Khan, Imam-ul-Haq, and Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan’s squad seems to be blending experience with current form. As the defending champions, they’ll be under pressure, but this balanced lineup gives fans plenty to look forward to.

As the cricketing world gears up for the decisive fifth Test between India and Australia, all eyes are on one question: Will Rohit Sharma take the field in Sydney?
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has chosen to stay tight-lipped, adding fuel to the fire of speculation surrounding the skipper’s inclusion.
Rohit, who has endured a nightmare series so far, was notably absent from the pre-match press conference. His streak of single-digit scores across five innings in Australia has raised serious concerns about his form—and even his role as captain.
When pressed about Rohit’s availability, Gambhir didn’t offer much clarity. “Everything is fine with Rohit, and I don’t think it’s anything traditional,” he said, brushing off concerns about the skipper’s absence from media duties.
When the same question popped up again, Gambhir stuck to his guns. “The answer is still the same,” he replied, leaving fans and experts guessing.
One thing Gambhir did confirm is that India’s playing XI will only be finalised after assessing the pitch on the eve of the match.
Changes Are Coming, but How Big?
India is already dealing with at least one forced change. Pace bowler Akash Deep has been ruled out due to a back injury, and his replacement will likely be Harshit Rana or Prasidh Krishna.
But with Rohit Sharma and even Virat Kohli under intense scrutiny, could we see bigger changes? Rohit’s struggles have been well-documented, but Kohli hasn’t escaped criticism either.
Despite a century in Perth, Kohli hasn’t been able to string together consistent performances. For a player of his caliber, the expectations are sky-high, and anything less than brilliance invites questions.
On the flip side, youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy have turned heads with their impressive performances. Gambhir, however, was quick to dismiss any talk of phasing out senior players in favour of fresh talent.
“It’s not about phasing out senior players or getting the youngsters in. Ultimately, the only thing that can keep you in that dressing room is performance,” Gambhir said.
With the series currently 2-1 in Australia’s favour, the pressure on India is immense. A win in Sydney is non-negotiable if they want to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The clock is ticking, and Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium is getting ready for its big moment. With the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy just around the corner, the stadium’s renovation is in full swing. Pakistan is all set to welcome cricket’s elite, and Gaddafi Stadium is making sure it’s dressed to impress.
Final Touches Are in Progress
According to PCB’s Director of Infrastructure, Qazi Jawad Ahmed, the construction is on track. The first-floor finishing touches are almost done, while other pavilion floors are taking shape.
One of the key updates involves the Far End Building. Though structurally sound, it’s getting a complete facelift to match the stadium’s new vibe. Ahmed assured fans that this section will be ready in just two weeks.
The floodlights are also getting some love. One screen stand is already up, and the second is just a few steps away from completion.
Seating That Represents Pakistan
The stadium’s seating upgrade is another highlight. Brand-new white and green chairs—representing Pakistan’s national colours—will soon add a fresh, vibrant look to the stands. These imported chairs are expected to arrive and be installed soon.
With these upgrades, Gaddafi Stadium is shaping up to be a world-class venue, ready to host cricket’s biggest names.
Champions Trophy 2025: What’s at Stake?
The excitement doesn’t stop at renovations. The ICC has officially announced the schedule for the much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament runs from February 19 to March 9 and features eight teams battling it out in 15 thrilling matches.
Pakistan will host 10 of these matches across three cities: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Dubai will also play a key role, hosting four games, including all three of India’s group-stage matches and the first semi-final.
The grand finale? That’s set for Lahore—unless India makes it to the final, in which case the action will shift to Dubai.
As the finishing touches are added to Gaddafi Stadium, the countdown to February 19 has officially begun. Whether you’re a fan in the stands or watching from home, one thing is certain: this is going to be cricket at its finest.
