Punjab Announces Work from Home Policy

Source: PakAffairs

The Punjab government has taken significant steps to address the alarming air quality crisis affecting millions, particularly in Lahore and surrounding cities. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a work-from-home policy in smog-affected areas to reduce exposure and alleviate transportation-related pollution, which is a primary contributor to the region’s hazardous smog levels.

Reducing Office Presence to Combat Pollution

This new policy mandates a 50% in-office staff limit for both public and private workplaces across the hardest-hit divisions, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan. The directive is expected to reduce traffic emissions and help protect public health from the thick haze that has enveloped these areas.

In addition to the work-from-home directive, the provincial government had earlier closed schools in high-smog districts, with classes shifting online until November 17. The compulsory use of masks in affected districts is also part of the government’s efforts to protect the population from the harmful air. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb highlighted that smog levels have worsened due to transboundary winds carrying pollutants from neighbouring regions.

“Green Lockdown” Targets High-Pollution Areas

In a proactive move, Punjab has implemented a “green lockdown” in parts of Lahore, restricting construction activities, and commercial generator use, and limiting restaurant operations after 8 p.m. in heavily impacted areas. This targeted lockdown affects locations such as Davis Road, Kashmir Road, and Allama Iqbal Road, where pollution is particularly dense.

Chief Minister Nawaz has even suggested “smog diplomacy” with India to collaboratively address the cross-border pollution problem. This proposed diplomatic effort reflects the understanding that effective smog control requires cooperation from both sides of the Punjab border, as air pollution knows no political boundaries.

As Punjab battles some of the world’s highest air pollution levels, these policies aim to provide immediate relief and signal a long-term commitment to addressing the air quality crisis.

Australia Shuts Down Social Media for Teens Under 16

Source: South Times

Australia’s proposed ban on social media for kids under 16, announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, has sparked intense debate and raised important questions about its practicality and broader implications. The new legislation aims to curb the impact of social media on youth mental health, yet its sweeping approach could have unintended consequences, including significant disruptions for young users and their families.

Protecting Mental Health

The proposal mandates that children under 16 will no longer be allowed on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, even with parental consent. This blanket restriction underscores the government’s firm stance on social media’s potentially negative influence on adolescents, particularly on mental well-being. However, critics argue the age limit is arbitrary, especially given the global lack of consensus on the appropriate age for social media usage. For example, France recently introduced parental consent requirements for users under 15, while Texas mandates parental consent for users under 18.

When should kids start using social media? Australia's government proposes age limit of 16 - Victoria Times Colonist
Source: Times Colorist

For many young people, social media is not just a platform for entertainment but a vital space for identity exploration, education, and networking. Teenagers increasingly rely on these platforms for employment, connecting with mentors, and accessing support networks for issues they may not be comfortable discussing at home. Additionally, with 40% of young Americans citing TikTok as a primary news source, the ban could limit young Australians’ access to timely, relevant information.

Challenges in Enforcing the Ban

Enforcing the ban poses another challenge, requiring tech companies to verify the ages of all users—a task that could disrupt platform functionality and lead to frustrations among adult users as well. Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland’s inclusion of LinkedIn and Messenger Kids in the ban’s scope raises questions about how Australia defines “social media” and could inadvertently exclude teens from professional and educational content that helps them prepare for their futures.

While the government’s intent is to protect young people, there is a risk that many will find ways around the restrictions through VPNs or by using others’ accounts, as suggested by the eSafety Commissioner. Instead of banning access entirely, some experts recommend creating safer online spaces by addressing harmful content directly, an approach that empowers youth and parents alike to make informed choices about online interactions.

Ultimately, Australia’s proposed social media ban highlights the delicate balance between protecting youth and recognizing their need for autonomy, social support, and access to information in an increasingly digital world.

Forget US Elections, You Need To Follow This Adorable Contest

adorable contest

This adorable contest is the perfect distraction from the stressful political elections. The true showdown isn’t between US candidates but is between two tiny pygmy hippos: Haggis from Edinburgh Zoo and Moo Deng from Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo. These baby hippos have captured hearts worldwide over how cute they are. Each brings its charm to a battle of cuteness for their fans. These two are currently more loved by people worldwide than any celebrity.

The Adorable Tale of Two Hippos

Haggis has been named after Scotland’s famous national dish. It was introduced by the Edinburgh Zoo, which playfully teased, “Moo Deng? Who deng?” as it launched her on social media. They’re trying to get a piece of Moo-Deng’s popularity. This mini-hippo has fans buzzing about her adorably wrinkled face and her playful nature. Born on October 30, Haggis is the zoo’s star. Visitors can even buy tickets for a chance to meet her once she’s ready for visitors.

Haggis is even being called the new Moo-Deng.

haggis adorable contest with moo deng

Meanwhile, Moo Deng – meaning “bouncy pork” in Thai – had an earlier start. Since her July debut, Moo Deng’s chubby cheeks and sweet pinkish skin have catapulted her to viral fame, and she’s been the star of countless memes. The Khao Kheow Zoo is now trademarking her name and even plans to release merchandise with her likeness to fund zoo projects. Moo Deng - adorable contest with haggis

What makes this contest more than just a cuteness overload and unique is its cause. Both zoos are leveraging the popularity of their tiny hippos to draw attention to the cause of pygmy hippos. They are an endangered species with only about 2,500 left in the wild. By creating this online rivalry, lighthearted in nature, they’re helping raise funds and awareness about habitat loss and poaching challenges faced by these animals.

However, after the online buzz took off, the Edinburgh Zoo ended up issuing a friendly apology. They acknowledged that there’s room for both Haggis and Moo Deng in the spotlight. Posting that they’re apologetic for pitting the two against one another.

Whether you’re Team Haggis or Team Moo Deng, this contest is an adorable reminder of the power animals have to bring joy and awareness to important causes

“Lock The Kit Bag Away,” Ricky Ponting’s Advice For Babar Azam

babar-azam-lock-the-kit-bag-away-ricky-ponting

Ricky Ponting has shared some seasoned advice for Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam, who’s been struggling lately in Test cricket. The former Australian captain thinks that Babar could benefit from a short break to refresh himself—a move that worked wonders for Virat Kohli.

Kohli, after all, took some time away from cricket, sorted things out, and came back blazing, scoring 765 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup and being crowned Player of the Tournament. Ponting believes that a similar pause could help Babar regain his top form and confidence.

Ponting didn’t hold back when discussing Pakistan’s revolving leadership setup either. He acknowledged the recent appointment of Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan’s white-ball captain, saying that while Rizwan’s fiery passion is great to see, it’ll take a few games to fully gauge his effectiveness as a leader.

Could a Break Be Good For Babar Azam?

Since 2023, Babar’s Test average has taken a dip, sitting at just 20.7, which is miles away from the numbers we’re used to seeing from him. Pakistan’s selectors decided to rest him for a while, and now, with him back in the limited-overs squad, Ponting thinks a short break might actually be exactly what Babar needs.

basit-ali-batter-slams-babar-azam-for-slow-batting

Ponting explained it simply: sometimes, stepping away from the game allows players to reset. “Lock the kit bag away for a while, and think about something else,” he said. When players return from these mental breaks, they often come back recharged and more focused. It’s what happened with Kohli, and Ponting hopes Babar can experience the same revival.

The New Captain on the Block

As for Pakistan’s leadership, Ricky Ponting had some interesting insights on the new captain, Mohammad Rizwan. The wicket-keeper batter is known for his energy and commitment, and Ponting, like many fans, loves that he “wears his heart on his sleeve.”

Ponting thinks this emotional involvement could make Rizwan an impactful leader. However, he emphasized that a few more games are needed to judge Rizwan’s effectiveness fully. “They obviously feel he’s the right man for here and now,” Ponting noted.

Will Stability in Leadership Work for Pakistan?

Ricky Ponting acknowledged the downside of constant changes in Pakistan’s leadership, saying that stability is crucial to long-term success. “They’re willing to make changes until they find something that works,” he added. Pakistan is giving Rizwan a chance to settle into the role, and if things go well, he could bring much-needed stability to the team.

The former Aussie captain admitted that it’s hard to judge Rizwan right now, but he’s optimistic about what the wicketkeeper-batter could bring to the table. Rizwan’s aggressive approach to the game, combined with his emotional investment, could just be the spark Pakistan needs to perform consistently on the world stage.

Who Is Allah Ghazanfar? Meet Afghanistan’s New Spin Sensation

who-is-allah-ghazanfar-afghanistan-spin-talent

Afghanistan is quickly becoming the land of mystery spinners. The country seems to unearth spinning prodigies every year, and now they have a new sensation: 18-year-old Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar.

The young spinner just made a massive impact, taking six wickets to help Afghanistan secure a commanding 92-run victory over Bangladesh in the first ODI in Sharjah. His standout performance – 6 for 26 in 6.3 overs – turned the game around in the blink of an eye, leaving cricket fans and experts buzzing about this new star.

Breakthrough Performance

Bangladesh looked comfortable at 120-2 while chasing 236. Then came Ghazanfar, and in a matter of overs, he flipped the match on its head. He took three wickets in a single over, sending Bangladesh from a position of strength to the verge of defeat.

The visitors went from 132/3 to being bowled out for just 143, all thanks to Ghazanfar’s magical spell. His figures of 6-26 are now the best by any bowler in an Afghanistan-Bangladesh ODI, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan’s 5-29 at Southampton in 2019.

Who is Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar?

The story of Allah Ghazanfar’s rise is as unique as his talent. Interestingly, he didn’t start as a spinner. Ghazanfar initially trained as a fast bowler, but it was former Afghan skipper Dawlat Ahmadzai who saw his potential as a mystery spinner. And since then, Ghazanfar has never looked back.

He first caught everyone’s attention during the 2024 U-19 World Cup, where he took eight wickets in four games. Those impressive performances opened doors for him, leading to his ODI debut against Ireland in March 2024, at the young age of just 16.

A Rising Star in High-Pressure Matches

Ghazanfar’s skill has already shone through in high-stakes games. He earned the Player of the Match award in the Emerging Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka A, where his two crucial wickets guided Afghanistan to their maiden title.

In fact, he even found himself on an IPL team this year, joining the Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Mujeeb ur Rahman. Although he didn’t get a chance to play for KKR, the experience was invaluable, and it’s only a matter of time before he makes a mark in franchise leagues too.

who-is-allah-ghazanfar-afghanistan-spin-talent

A Key Player in Afghanistan’s Success

Allah Ghazanfar has now played six ODIs for Afghanistan, picking up ten wickets and proving he’s more than just a one-hit wonder. He played a crucial role in Afghanistan’s historic series win over South Africa, taking four wickets in three games.

He might not have picked up a large haul of wickets, but he was a master of containment. His tight lines and ability to stay unreadable put immense pressure on the South African batsmen, allowing bowlers like Rashid Khan to attack and take wickets.

Afghanistan’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, is clearly pleased with Ghazanfar’s talent, even joking with him about his habit of bowling the occasional no-ball. “He is a special talent and has a good future for Afghanistan. I am very happy with the options we have on the bench,” Shahidi shared, showing his confidence in the young spinner’s potential.

What’s Next for Allah Ghazanfar?

Allah Ghazanfar’s rise is just beginning. With Afghanistan’s reputation for producing quality spinners, his journey will likely be one to watch. It’s exciting to think about what he could accomplish as he gains more experience and exposure on the international stage.

For now, cricket fans are simply thrilled to see the new talent bringing his own brand of mystery spin into the game. In a team already rich with spinning talent, Ghazanfar adds a new layer of intrigue.

sajid-khan-reveals-origin-of-his-viral-celebration-ms-dhoni

Sajid Khan has been the talk of the town, ever since his comeback to the Pakistan Test team, which has inspired many young cricketers. However, many people wonder who was Sajid’s inspiration?

The off-spinner recently shared some insights that might surprise you. In a candid interview, Sajid opened up about his admiration for none other than India’s iconic captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Learning from the Cool Captain

When asked about his own approach to captaincy, the 31-year-old Sajid didn’t hesitate to give credit to Dhoni. “The best captain is MS Dhoni. He is very cool, calm, and successful,” he said, summing up his admiration for Dhoni’s style.

Dhoni’s legacy, built on level-headedness and sharp tactics, seems to have resonated with Sajid, who appreciates the value of staying calm under pressure. Unlike some who prefer an aggressive leadership style, Sajid believes it’s not about how loud or intense you are as a captain.

“The strategy of the captain matters more than being a captain or not,” he shared. This thoughtful perspective aligns well with the traits he admires in Dhoni – focus, clear strategy, and a calm demeanor.

A Journey through Captaincy

Sajid’s captaincy experience is actually more varied than you might expect. He’s captained teams at multiple levels, from Under-13 squads to club and first-class sides. Through these experiences, he’s developed his own approach but clearly keeps Dhoni’s legacy in mind.

Known for his steady presence on the field, Sajid brings his own brand of calmness, showing that he’s taken a few pages from Dhoni’s playbook.

Making a Strong Comeback

Sajid’s journey with the Pakistan national team hasn’t been all smooth sailing. He made his Test debut in 2021 but has had limited opportunities since then. However, he certainly made his mark in his most recent series.

Sajid took an impressive 19 wickets across two Test matches on his comeback, steering Pakistan to a series victory over England. This performance was a sweet comeback for him personally and a satisfying payback for Pakistan after England’s 3-0 series sweep two years prior.

With such a strong comeback, Sajid seems to be embracing the same resilience that Dhoni showed throughout his career. For Sajid, Dhoni isn’t just an inspiration – he’s a model of how to stay cool and focus on the bigger picture, no matter how tough the situation gets.

9 Foods you Might Think are High in Protein, but Actually aren’t

not high in protein foods

The myth of high-protein foods often comes from assumptions or outdated beliefs. For example, people might assume that foods like broccoli or peanut butter contain much protein because they’re promoted as superfoods. However, while these foods are nutritious, their protein content isn’t as high as many believe. On top of that, some foods gain a reputation for protein simply because they are plant-based or nutritious in other ways. Here are 9 examples of such foods:

1. Almond Milk

Almond milk- not high in protien

Almond milk is a popular dairy-free alternative, but it’s not as packed with protein as people think. One cup typically has only around 1 gram of protein. Whereas a cup of almonds has 20 grams. If you’re looking for plant-based milk with more protein, try soy milk, which has around 7 grams per cup.

2. Peanut Butter

peanut butter - not high in protien

Peanut butter has a bit of protein (about 7 grams in two tablespoons), but it’s mostly known for its high-fat content. While it’s a tasty way to add protein to snacks, peanut butter is also calorie-dense, so it’s best to use it in moderation rather than counting on it as a primary protein source. Consuming it extensively will only up your calorie count.

3. QuinoaHow to Make Popped Quinoa

Quinoa is celebrated as a superfood because it contains all nine essential amino acids. However, it only has about 8 grams of protein per cup cooked. This is relatively low compared to other protein-rich grains. Quinoa is a great part of a balanced diet, but don’t expect it to cover your protein needs entirely.

4. BroccoliMagic Broccoli (Best roasted broccoli recipe ever!)

Broccoli is a nutrient-dense vegetable and does contain some protein, but only 3 grams per cup. It’s great for fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants. Adding other high-protein veggies like peas or leafy greens can help boost your intake without relying too heavily on broccoli.

5.  Avocado

Despite popular belief, avocado is also not as much a superfood as we think it is. Avocado is creamy, versatile, and full of healthy fats, but protein? Not so much. A whole avocado only contains around 3 grams of protein. It’s wonderful for heart health and delicious in sandwiches, but it won’t help you reach your protein goals.

6. Hummus

Since hummus is made from chickpeas, which are high in protein, so is hummus itself. A serving of hummus typically has only about 2 grams of protein. It’s tasty and satisfying, but for more protein, consider eating whole chickpeas instead.

7. Spinach

Spinach is often advertised as a protein-rich leafy green, and while it has some protein, you need to eat a lot to get a meaningful amount. It is better for iron intake than it is for protein. One cup of raw spinach contains only about 1 gram of protein, so try pairing it with higher-protein foods in salads, like nuts or seeds.

8. PotatoesIncredibly Easy Oven Baked Russet Potatoes

Potatoes have a small amount of protein, around 3 grams in a medium potato, but are mostly made up of carbs. They’re filling and nutrient-rich, but if you’re seeking protein, consider having them on the side with a source like beans or lean meat.

9. Kalenot high in protein - spinach

Kale has a reputation as a superfood with everything you need. However, its protein content is modest at about 2.9 grams per cup. While it’s packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and fibre, kale alone isn’t going to provide the protein boost you may be looking for.

These foods are perfect for your fitness goals. They’re packed with antioxidants and nutrients. However, if you’re looking to meet your protein goals daily, you should consider alternatives.

Google Pixel 9 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro: Price

Source: Phone Arena

A recent report from Nikkei reveals the bill of materials (BOM) for Google’s Pixel 9 Pro and Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro, presenting the cost of raw components needed to build each device. Both smartphones retail for around $1,000, but the Pixel 9 Pro’s BOM is roughly $406—significantly lower than the iPhone 16 Pro’s $568 BOM. This disparity reflects each company’s approach to its hardware design, production, and pricing.

Breaking Down the Pixel 9 Pro: BOM

The Pixel 9 Pro’s BOM cost of $406 is driven by key components like Google’s in-house Tensor G4 chipset, which costs $80, and the Samsung-made M14 display, priced at $75. Additionally, the Pixel’s high-quality camera components contribute $61, a critical investment for Google as it continues to prioritise photography. Interestingly, the Pixel 9 Pro’s BOM is about 11% lower than its predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro, highlighting Google’s efforts to streamline costs with each new model.

This year, Google launched the Pixel 9 series earlier, aligning its release more closely with Apple’s iPhone 16 series. This strategy appears successful, with strong Pixel 9 sales indicating that the Pixel is becoming a formidable competitor in the premium smartphone market.

Apple’s Hardware Investment

The iPhone 16 Pro’s BOM sits higher at $568, with Apple’s A18 Pro chip costing around $135, nearly double the price of Google’s Tensor G4. This substantial chip cost reflects Apple’s commitment to high-performance processing power, a key differentiator between the iPhone and other flagship smartphones. The M14 display on the iPhone 16 Pro costs $110, while its advanced camera components add about $91, underscoring Apple’s focus on high-quality visuals and smooth user experiences.

Compared to the Pixel 9 Pro, Apple’s BOM suggests a higher overall investment in premium materials and performance-oriented components. This approach aligns with Apple’s brand of offering top-tier hardware and user experience, justifying the higher production cost.

The Full Cost of Bringing Smartphones to Market

While the BOM provides insight into the core hardware costs, it represents just a fraction of what goes into a smartphone’s retail price. Factors such as research and development, marketing, shipping, and distribution significantly impact the final price tag. Apple and Google invest heavily in these areas to maintain their competitive edges. However, the BOM still serves as a useful snapshot, revealing each company’s strategic priorities and cost structures for their flagship devices. As smartphone technology advances, understanding these components offers a glimpse into the future of pricing in the high-end mobile market.

Nvidia Rides AI Wave to Pass Apple As a Global Leader

Source: Seattle Times

In a monumental shift on Wall Street, Nvidia Corporation has surpassed Apple Inc., claiming the title of the world’s most valuable company with a market cap of $3.43 trillion. This milestone highlights the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) in reshaping corporate valuations and driving unprecedented growth. Nvidia’s stock, which closed at 2.9% at $139.93, has soared more than 850% since 2022, emphasising the massive investor confidence in AI and its future impact.

How Nvidia came into the Limelight

Founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem. Nvidia started as a graphics processing unit (GPU) company with a focus on gaming. The company revolutionised the gaming industry in 1999 by introducing the GeForce 256, the world’s first GPU, which could handle complex calculations, rendering realistic graphics and enabling immersive gaming experiences. Over the years, Nvidia’s GPUs found applications beyond gaming, expanding into data centres, scientific research, and autonomous driving.

Nvidia rides AI wave to pass Apple as world's largest company | The Seattle Times
Source: Bloomberg

The company’s strategic pivot to AI began in the 2010s, as its GPUs proved uniquely suited to power the heavy computations required for machine learning. This foresight positioned Nvidia as a leader in the AI revolution, culminating in today’s dominance as the essential supplier of chips that power everything from deep learning models to AI-driven business solutions. This history of innovation and adaptability has laid the foundation for Nvidia’s meteoric rise, propelling it to the very top of the tech industry.

AI at the Core of Wall Street’s Heavyweights

The most valuable companies on Wall Street are now, all heavily involved in AI, either through dedicated AI technologies or by embedding AI features across their products. Apple has introduced AI-focused iPhones, while Microsoft, Amazon, and Google parent Alphabet leverage AI in their cloud computing and customer services. Meta Platforms is also building AI-driven ad targetting, solidifying a trend where AI isn’t just an add-on but an essential part of big tech’s DNA. Nvidia’s chip technology powers many of these AI efforts, making it a key enabler of the AI ecosystem.

While Nvidia’s Blackwell chip experienced initial engineering delays, recent developments have reassured investors about its growth potential. Nvidia’s revenue is expected to more than double this fiscal year, with Wall Street projecting another 44% increase the following year. The company’s dominance in AI hardware has made it a cornerstone for major tech firms looking to deepen their AI capabilities. Nvidia alone accounts for about 7% of the weight of the S&P 500 Index and has contributed to nearly a quarter of its 21% gain in 2024, underscoring its market influence.

Investors’ Faith in AI’s Long-Term Promise

AI’s potential has fuelled an investor frenzy, making Nvidia’s 183% stock gain the third-largest in the S&P 500 this year, only behind Vistra Corp. and Palantir Technologies. While Apple’s recent performance raised questions about its revenue growth, Nvidia’s upward trajectory reflects the widespread expectation that AI’s influence on tech will only deepen. OpenAI’s recent $157 billion valuation and the ongoing development of advanced AI models by companies like Alphabet reinforce this confidence.

With tech giants investing hundreds of billions into AI, Nvidia’s position as the premier provider of AI hardware makes it uniquely poised to benefit. As Fall Ainina of James Investment Research put it, “Nvidia overtaking Apple…suggests people expect the AI boom will continue.”

Mozilla Lays Off 30% of its Workforce

Source: Times

In late October 2024, the Mozilla Foundation made a bold and somewhat unexpected move, laying off 30 per cent of its workforce and dismantling its advocacy and global programmes divisions. Known primarily for its Firefox browser, Mozilla has long positioned itself as a defender of internet health and freedom, advocating for a transparent, accessible web and fighting against issues such as data privacy abuses and internet censorship. This latest decision has sparked conversations on how Mozilla’s mission might evolve in the absence of these divisions.

A Legacy of Digital Rights Advocacy

Mozilla’s advocacy work has historically set it apart from other tech organisations. Unlike corporate giants primarily focussed on profits, Mozilla’s efforts to protect user privacy and combat monopolistic practices in the tech industry resonated with individuals and advocacy groups alike. Mozilla’s global programmes division, for instance, aimed to bridge digital divides worldwide, advocating for accessible internet resources in underserved regions. The sudden end of these divisions is concerning to supporters who fear the void left in digital rights advocacy.

However, Mozilla claims that advocacy remains essential to its mission. According to Brandon Borrman, Mozilla’s communications chief, “Fighting for a free and open internet will always be core to our mission, and advocacy continues to be a critical tool in that work.” Borrman emphasises that, while the organisation’s methods are shifting, its core values remain the same. The changes, according to Mozilla, are part of a strategic refocusing amid a rapidly evolving internet landscape.

Refocusing on Products and AI

The layoffs are part of a broader restructuring aimed at making Mozilla more competitive and financially sustainable. Earlier this year, the Mozilla Corporation also reduced staff and shifted focus from experimental projects like its Mastodon instance and virtual 3D platform to concentrate on its flagship product, Firefox, and artificial intelligence initiatives. These moves, though necessary to navigate market realities, signal a shift from Mozilla’s historical emphasis on broader internet rights to a more streamlined, product-centered approach.

As the internet continues to grow in complexity and challenges to digital rights become more urgent, Mozilla’s decision marks a significant moment in the tech advocacy sphere. Without the Mozilla Foundation’s advocacy programs, it remains uncertain who will step up to fill this gap. For now, Mozilla is betting on a narrower focus, but whether this strategy will sustain its mission to protect a free and open web is a question only time will answer.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has kicked off a major renovation project, bringing the stadium up to international standards. And the first big update? Brand new LED floodlights on all six of the stadium’s towers.

So far, the old lights on three towers have already been removed, and the plan is to replace them all with energy-efficient LEDs. This new lighting upgrade will ensure that players and fans alike can enjoy top-notch visibility. With brighter, eco-friendly lights, night games at Gaddafi are going to look better than ever!

With these improvements, Gaddafi Stadium will not just be a sports venue but an experience in itself, adding to Lahore’s historic charm. Naqvi’s commitment to completing these upgrades on time shows just how seriously the PCB is taking its role as host for the Champions Trophy.

Will Naseem Shah Be Fit For Second ODI Against Australia?

will-naseem-shah-play-in-second-odi-against-australia

Naseem Shah showed a gutsy performance for Pakistan with both bat and ball in the first ODI against Australia. However, his injury cast a cloud over his participation in the second match. Well, those doubts were put to rest today as sources confirmed that Naseem has fully recovered from the cramps that sidelined him in the first game.

The young fast bowler joined the team’s practice session today in Adelaide, and he’s all set for action on November 8. This gives Pakistan a real boost as they look to bounce back after a challenging first game.

Naseem Shah’s Recovery

In the opening ODI, Naseem Shah had to leave the field due to cramps—a tough break for both him and the team. But now that he’s back to full fitness, hopes are high for a stronger showing in the second ODI.

Although there’s talk of a potential change in the playing XI, nothing is set in stone yet. Final decisions on the squad will be made after the team’s second practice session tomorrow.

Selector Asad Shafiq, along with selectors Aqib Javed, Azhar Ali, Aleem Dar, and Hassan Cheema, will consult with the captain and head coach to finalize the lineup. With Adelaide’s pitch in mind, they’ll weigh all options to create the most balanced squad possible.

Notably, the Pakistan team hasn’t had much success in Adelaide over the years. Out of eight matches played here, they’ve only managed one victory, and that was back in 1996. Since then, Adelaide has remained an elusive venue for Pakistan, with tough matches and narrow defeats marking their record here.

Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq Set For Comeback On South Africa Tour

It looks like Pakistan fans may soon see the familiar faces of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq back in action. Reports suggest the PCB is considering recalling these left-handed openers to the white-ball squad for Pakistan’s tour of South Africa in December.

Pakistan’s December tour is packed, starting with a three-match T20I series, followed by a three-game ODI series, and concluding with two crucial Test matches as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

The duo’s possible return brings a spark of anticipation as they are considered as Pakistan’s most exciting opening pair since the iconic Saeed Anwar and Aamir Sohail.

For the unversed, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq holds the record for the highest partnership for any wicket for Pakistan in ODIs and the second-highest opening partnership in ODI cricket across the globe.

Back in 2018, they put together a colossal 304-run opening stand against Zimbabwe. Only West Indies’ John Campbell and Shai Hope, with 365 runs, have managed a better opening stand in ODIs, achieved against Ireland in 2019.

The Need for Change

Interestingly, Pakistan has been experimenting with a young opening pair, Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique. While they showed flashes of promise, their recent dip in form has left the team seeking stability at the top.

And that’s where Fakhar and Imam come into the picture. Both were left out of the ongoing series against Australia and the Zimbabwe tour, which raised eyebrows among fans and analysts. Moreover, they were excluded from the PCB’s central contract list, adding another layer to their absence from the squad.

The timing of their expected comeback couldn’t be better. Pakistan’s lineup needs that spark and reliability Fakhar and Imam bring, especially with the demanding South African conditions ahead. Having both experienced lefties back could bring a much-needed balance and depth to Pakistan’s white-ball strategy.

What Could This Mean for Pakistan?

With Fakhar and Imam potentially opening, Pakistan has a better shot at strong starts in ODIs. Their chemistry, forged over years of playing together, is hard to replicate.

And while Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique have bright futures ahead, a solid partnership between Fakhar and Imam might just be what Pakistan needs to dominate South Africa in their backyard.

This isn’t just about skill but about experience, adaptability, and knowing how to handle the pressures of international cricket. As we wait for official confirmation, fans can start getting excited about the possibility of seeing this dynamic duo in action once again.

How Gen-Z Broke The Marketing Funnel

The traditional marketing funnel, which once steadily guided customers from awareness to ‘marketing’ and finally to the purchase, no longer fits Gen-Z’s way of shopping.
Growing up immersed in the digital realm, this young generation views shopping as a transaction. For them, it’s part of the social media experience. The funnel is no longer a straight line. It’s a blend of social media, trends, and influencer opinions, where product discovery can happen at any given moment. Social media is no longer just a socialising platform; it’s a major marketplace, entertainment centre, news source, and learning platform, blending all these functions into one powerful experience. One that you get to use every day.

The Shift from the Traditional Marketing Funnel

For Generation Z, the shopping journey starts with social inspiration. Around 30% of this generation uses social media to discover new products. They rely on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. 77% of Gen-Z look for style inspiration constantly on these sites. Influencers play a big role here, with 51% of Gen Z viewing them as the true trendsetters. Hailey Bieber’s brand, Rhode, is a perfect example. By launching micro-trends like “strawberry girl summer,” she aligns her brand closely with social media trends, driving huge engagement. This set up a market for her lip tints before they were even launched. How Gen Z Fashion & Shopping Habits Will Change the Future of Retail

While social media often sparks interest, it doesn’t always lead to instant purchases. Products are usually researched thoroughly before buying. Many use TikTok as a search engine to check reviews, see real-life demos, and confirm packaging quality. When it comes to purchasing, though, most Gen-Z consumers still prefer physical stores. They enjoy the ability to test products in person, with 68% preferring to try before they buy. This love for in-store shopping has led brands to create immersive experiences that match the online inspiration the youngsters see.12,900+ Gen Z Shopping Stock Photos, Pictures & Royalty-Free Images - iStock | Gen z shopping online, Gen z shopping mask

For these shoppers, it’s all about the journey. This is why brands have to ensure that the captivating content they’re putting out there on social media, needs to match the in-person shopping experience.

The campaign’s subtle details make it relatable, fun and hence engaging with the audience. As the misfortunes illustrated could happen to anyone.

3. Pepsi’s Halloween Twist

This advert has gone viral all over the world. For Halloween, Pepsi continues its rivalry with Coca-Cola by dressing a Pepsi can in a “scary” costume. The costume was a red cape that had the Coca-Cola logo designed on it. This ad playfully nods to the competition between the two brands, requiring a second glance to catch the joke. This subtle Halloween reference shows the power of simple visuals to make a lasting impression

Pakistani Passport Continues to Rank Among The Worst in the World

Source: : Truth International

The latest Henley Passport Index ranks Pakistan’s passport as the fourth worst globally, positioned at 102nd out of 199 passports. With visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to only 40 destinations, Pakistanis face significant limitations in international travel, reflecting broader diplomatic and political challenges.

Pakistan passport ranking

Singapore’s Passport Number One in the World

In contrast, Singapore has once again claimed the top spot on the index, with its citizens enjoying visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 195 destinations. This achievement underscores Singapore’s robust diplomatic strategies and sustained commitment to enhancing global mobility for its citizens. The Singaporean government’s efforts to foster positive international relationships make travel an accessible privilege, empowering its citizens with unparalleled freedom across the globe.

Following Singapore; France and Germany have risen to share the second position, providing their citizens with visa-free access to 194 destinations. This high rank reflects the effectiveness of these countries’ foreign policies and international collaborations. These nations understand that strengthened global partnerships not only foster trade and tourism but also significantly enhance the quality of life for their citizens by facilitating easy travel for them.

Malaysia’s Impressive Climb in Southeast Asia

Malaysia, meanwhile, has made impressive progress, securing 11th place. Malaysian passport holders now enjoy access to 183 destinations without the need for a visa. This milestone positions Malaysia as the second most powerful passport in Southeast Asia, trailing behind only Singapore. The Malaysian government’s strategic focus on international agreements has created enhanced mobility for its people and is a testament to the country’s growing influence in the global landscape.

The Henley Passport Index, published quarterly, relies on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to rank global passports by the number of destinations accessible without prior visas. Each ranking reflects changes in international agreements and the shifting landscape of global mobility.

As the world increasingly values accessible travel for economic and cultural exchange, Pakistan’s restrictive ranking highlights the need for greater diplomatic outreach and improved global relations. While countries like Singapore and Malaysia continue to benefit from strong international ties and progressive travel policies, Pakistan’s limited passport access emphasises the diplomatic work needed to unlock greater global mobility for its citizens. The Henley Passport Index thus serves as a reminder of how deeply international diplomacy affects everyday freedoms, shaping citizens’ ability to explore, connect, and contribute globally.
