Padel: The New Trending Sport in Pakistan

Padel: The New Trending Sport in Pakistan

Padel. a mix of tennis and squash, is among the fastest-growing sports around the globe. Given its simple rules and rapid format, it is not a surprise that Padel stands to the interests of sports enthusiasts as well as sports players of all kinds.

From the bustling streets of Madrid to the courts of Lahore, this game is making a name for itself worldwide.

A Brief Overview of Padel

While many people have described Padel as a garage version of tennis and squash, they’re only partially right. It is played inside a court which is enclosed with walls and is set at half the length of a Tennis Court. Players utilise solid rackets without any strings attached to them. Their aim is to hit tough rubber balls over the nets, as well as off the walls for an added challenge. This unique style of playing paired with the simplicity of the rules allows all ages to enjoy the game immensely.

The International Expansion of Padel

Padel’s most staggering expansion happened in Spain despite bearing Mexican roots that trace back to the 1960s. According to current statistics, Spain boasts over eleven thousand courts specifically for Padel. The sport attracts eminent athletes globally as there are many tournaments hosted worldwide. Although physically it is less demanding than tennis, it is still just as fun.

Padel’s Arrival in Pakistan

In recent years, Padel has begun to make its mark in Pakistan, a country that has long been passionate about cricket and squash. As an increasing number of Pakistanis are looking for new ways to stay active and healthy, Padel offers a perfect balance of fitness and fun. Now, cities including as Karachi, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi are following suit, building cutting-edge Padel facilities.

Why Padel is Gaining Popularity in Pakistan

Padel’s popularity in Pakistan can be linked to a variety of factors. First and foremost, it is a sport that does not require a strong background in tennis or squash. The game’s straightforward rules make it easy to learn. It is a good choice for those who have never played racquet sports before. Furthermore, Padel is played in pairs, which adds to its appeal in a society where group activities are highly valued.

Another aspect is that Pakistanis are becoming more active about their health. As more people look for alternatives to everyday gym routines, Padel provides a different and exciting method to stay active. The game’s fast pace stimulates various muscle groups, helping to improve coordination, reflexes, and cardiovascular fitness.

The sport appears to have a bright future in Pakistan as more Padel clubs form and training programs develop. There is a lot of potential for the sport to grow, and there are already various programs in place to nurture young talent. In fact, a lot of Pakistani sports fans are hopeful that Padel will be played internationally in the future, just like squash was at its prime. With more young people getting exposed to the game and a flourishing player base, Padel is set to establish itself as a staple of Pakistani sports culture.

Kohli Penalised 20% Match Fee After On-Field Clash With Konstas

Kohli Penalized 20% Match Fee After On-Field Clash With Konstas

On Thursday Viral Kohli was fined 20% of his match fee and handed one demerit point. This happened following an on-field incident involving Australian debutant Sam Konstas during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Cricbuzz reported.

The Boxing Day Test took an entertaining turn when debutant Sam Konstas found himself embroiled in a fiery exchange with Virat Kohli. During the second session, the two players walked into each other, sparking a heated verbal argument. Australian opener Usman Khawaja and umpire Michael Gough quickly stepped in to calm the tension.

Code of Conduct

As per the ICC’s Code of Conduct (CoC), Article 2.12 prohibits “any form of inappropriate physical contact in cricket.”

The clause states: “Players will breach this regulation if they deliberately, recklessly and/or negligently walk or run into or shoulder another player or umpire.”

Factors such as the intent, force of contact and any resulting injury are considered when determining the seriousness of a breach. The shoulder bump, witnessed by a 90,000-strong MCG crowd, led to a heated exchange between the players. Kohli’s act drew sharp criticism from cricketing circles, including former players Ricky Ponting and Ravi Shastri.

Speaking on Channel Seven, Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, firmly stated, “Virat walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.”

Former India coach Ravi Shastri also weighed in, calling the act unnecessary. “There is a line, and you don’t want to overstep that line,” Shastri said. Reflecting on the moment, Konstas admitted: “The emotions got to both of us. I didn’t quite realise what happened as I was fixing my gloves, then there was a little shoulder charge—but it happens in cricket.”

Former umpire Simon Taufel also weighed in, suggesting that Kohli’s as “inappropriate physical contact” under the ICC’s Code of Conduct. He explained, “Virat Kohli actually changed his line to get into the personal space of Sam Konstas. This is a clause within the ICC Code of Conduct, and the umpires and the referee will be looking at it seriously after play today.”

Indian Shark Tank Judge Anupam Mittal Comments on Shark Tank Pakistan

Indian Judge Anupam Mittal comments on Shark Tank Pakistan

In a recent podcast with Sharan Hegde, Anupam Mittal from Shark Tank India shared his thoughts on Shark Tank Pakistan. He couldn’t help but laugh at some of the pitches he had seen, saying, “Bhai, ho raha kya wahan pe?” He found some of the pitches amusing, admitting that a few things were “fundamentally, technically wrong.”

The Importance of Economic Growth

While he found the show entertaining, Mittal also highlighted a more serious point. He stressed the need for economic growth in neighbouring countries for regional stability. “If we as a country want to progress and become a real superpower, then it is very important that our neighbouring countries also have economic growth,” he said. He added that without growth, it could lead to trouble, affecting both countries’ futures. “If Pakistan is not productive, it will create trouble, and that trouble we have to live with, which will slow us down.”

Hope for Positive Change

Despite the humour, Mittal expressed hope that Shark Tank Pakistan could inspire the country to grow economically. “It is in our best interest that Shark Tank Pakistan inspires their entire country and puts them to work in the right direction so their economy also grows,” he stated.

Aman Gupta’s Humorous Take

Aman Gupta, another Shark Tank India judge, also joined in the fun. “I have seen some reels, and some people have tagged me. That 300 crore rupay someone was giving was interesting. Arey, 300 crores Pakistan leke aaye hum, hum toh aisi companies pe invest kar dete hai,” he joked, blending humour with his own investment strategies.

While both Anupam Mittal and Aman Gupta laughed at some of the moments from Shark Tank Pakistan, they also recognised the importance of economic growth in the region. Their comments reflect a mix of humour and optimism, hoping that the show could encourage positive change in Pakistan’s economy.

Bumrah Reacted in Disbelief as his Worst Ball Dismissed Khawaja

jasprit Bumrah Reacted in Disbelief as his Worst Ball Dismissed Khawaja champions trophy

Jasprit Bumrah had a strange morning on the first day of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. However, he finally had some joy as he dismissed Usman Khawaja, for the fifth time in this series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Khawaja’s dismissal was also odd, as he managed to toe-end a pull shot off the first delivery of Bumrah’s latest spell in the middle session, following a catch to KL Rahul at short mid-wicket. Khawaja, well set on 57 having registered his first half-century of the series, was beaten perhaps by a little sudden slowness in the pitch, as he completely mistimed his stroke.

Bumrah, who was still searching for the first wicket of his match, couldn’t believe his luck as one of his more non-threatening deliveries of the day managed to earn him the important wicket of the opener.

Yoon Faces Criticism for Ignoring Summons in Martial Law Case

Yoon Faces Criticism for Ignoring Summons in Martial Law Case

South Korea’s suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol missed a second summons from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials on Wednesday. Authorities are investigating his controversial martial law declaration earlier this month. Yoon had also skipped the first summons last week, deepening concerns about his legal stance.

An agency official confirmed they would wait for Yoon’s appearance and further review the case before deciding on an arrest warrant, Yonhap News Agency reported. Prosecutors and anti-corruption authorities are pursuing charges, including insurrection, one of the rare offences for which a president lacks immunity in South Korea.

On Dec. 15, Yoon ignored another summons from prosecutors probing the martial law case. His defiance has sparked criticism and opposition demands for his arrest, with fears of potential evidence destruction growing. In a televised address on Dec. 7, Yoon stated, “I will not evade legal and political responsibility for my actions.”

Yoon’s impeachment by parliament on Dec 14 has left him awaiting a Constitutional Court trial that will determine whether he will face removal from office or reinstatement. Legal proceedings have intensified, with authorities targeting Yoon and other officials for possible charges, including insurrection and abuse of power.

PM Sharif, President Zardari Honour Quaid on Birth Anniversary

PM Sharif, President Zardari Honor Quaid on Birth Anniversary

25th December, 2024, marks the 148th birthday of the great Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Tributes from across the country by residents, military personnel, and politicians were plentiful on this very important day. It was a chance to reflect on the inspirational leadership and long-lasting influence he had on the foundation of Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Tribute

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude towards Quaid-e-Azam and termed him as a leader of exceptional vision, courage, and determination. He emphasised that the virtues of justice, equality, and togetherness formed the bedrock of Jinnah’s leadership. He also reminded the nation of the dreams of Quaid-e-Azam for a Pakistan, where all citizens, Muslim or non-Muslim, should be able to lead an equal, free life of dignity.

The prime minister also greeted the Christian community in Pakistan on Christmas. He reiterated that Hazrat Isa (AS) taught everyone to love, be compassionate and peaceful. He said the government is committed to protecting the rights of all religious communities and hailed the role of the Christian community in health, education, and nation-building.

President Asif Ali Zardari’s Message

In the statement from President Asif Ali Zardari in his tribute to Quaid-e-Azam, he presented before the nation what was most crucial to achieving Jinnah’s vision: social justice, economic equity, and the rule of law. He appealed to the Pakistani nation to invest in education and work for bettering underdeveloped regions. While appealing for harmony within the country and across its borders, President Zardari called for reflection on Jinnah’s famous August 11, 1947 speech. In that speech, he envisioned a peaceful, moderate, and inclusive Pakistan, but that would not be possible without the people’s reaffirmation of their commitment to Jinnah’s principles to create a democratic and wealthy country.

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s lasting legacy was celebrated on December 25. The President and Prime Minister both stressed how crucial it is to uphold Jinnah’s values of equality, justice, and unity. These guiding principles are still essential in determining Pakistan’s future as it develops. The nation reaffirmed its dedication to a peaceful, inclusive culture and celebrated its diversity on this day.

Psychic Baba Vanga’s Predictions for the Year 2025 Will Leave You Speechless

Source: Times

As the curtains close on 2024, global interest in what 2025 will be like is on the rise. All heads turn to the cryptic prophecies of Baba Vanga, the Bulgarian blind mystic. Eerily accurate in her predictions, from warning of the 9/11 attacks to the ISIS catastrophe, Baba Vanga’s visions have inspired wonder and scepticism alike. What does she have in store for 2025?

A World on the Brink

One of the most frightening prophecies Baba Vanga made regarding 2025 is that there will be a third world war. She even says that the disagreement between China and the United States would eventually turn into global conflict. Europe would be caught in the crossfire. The result, she says, might be catastrophic, with severe destruction and a sharp decrease in the global population. Though this sounds like something from a science fiction movie, it’s a matter of worry given the increasing geopolitical tension between these powers.

In what reads like science fiction, Baba Vanga foretells that humanity will finally meet extraterrestrial beings during a major sporting event. The nature of such “contact” is left amorphous—whether it will come in the form of peaceful conversation or something more ominous remains to be seen. Such a prediction plays into humankind’s long-standing if not insatiable, interest in the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligent life.

Medical Miracles on the Horizon

Amid these grim visions, Baba Vanga also predicts groundbreaking medical advancements. Lab-grown organs could revolutionise transplant procedures, and significant strides in cancer treatment—perhaps even a cure—are expected. While these forecasts align with current research trajectories, the realisation of such breakthroughs would mark a monumental shift in healthcare.

Read More: Baba Vanga’s 2024 Predictions Proven True

Looking back, Baba Vanga’s predictions for 2024 were a mixed bag. She had expected severe weather events and cyberattacks, which indeed materialised. However, the other forecasts, such as the assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin and the extensive use of biological weapons, have not been verified or are yet to be realised.

Speculation and Reality

While sceptics argue that many of Baba Vanga’s prophecies are vague or too broad, they are still fascinating to the imagination of people all over the world. As 2025 unfolds, these prophecies may be points of reflection on world issues, technological progress, and humanity’s future.

Celebrating Christmas in Pakistan

Christmas in Pakistan

As the end of December approaches, comes a time of festivities and celebrations worldwide, and Pakistan is no exception. In a country where diverse cultures, traditions, and religions prevail, every festival is celebrated like its own. Christmas is one of them.

The Onset of Celebration

If you were in London right now, you’d witness lavishly decorated fir trees under twinkling Christmas lights, creating an oh-so-merry atmosphere. Much like the rest of the world, Christmas preparations in Pakistan often begin weeks before the actual day. Locals refer it to as Bara Din or Wadda Din, meaning Big Day in Urdu and Punjabi, respectively. It is also an official holiday countrywide, conceding with the birth of the nation’s father, allowing the Christian community to celebrate their most important holiday freely.

How Do the Locals Celebrate

Across the country, streets and churches are decorated with Christmas lights and trees. Markets like Saddar and Tariq Road can be seen displaying Christmas outfits, creating a welcoming holiday vibe.

“Christmas is special. We decorate our house with lights and host a grand dinner for family and friends every year,” shared a local. “Spending time with family has become rare these days but Christmas is that time of year when we all sit together and spend valuable time with each other and God. These moments of thankfulness and relaxation are really important to me,” he added.

Every year, across the country, worshippers of the Christian faith don festive attires and gather in churches to pray. Traditional meals like chicken and beef curry with rice, and biryani are a must while celebrating. These are paired with Gajrela, Kheer or cakes,  specially made for the occasion.

In the more posh areas of the country, 5 star hotels and cafes decorate their lobbies and interior with Christmas trees and lights, welcoming guest from all around the world to a wholesome vibe.

“We always go to the midnight mass; it’s such a wonderful feeling,” shared Sidrak, a practising community member living in Karachi. “And of course, we decorate our house with festive lights and give presents to children,” he continued.

Freedom to Celebrate?

Pakistan has more than 5 million Christians living in it. This means that celebrations such as Christmas and Easter cannot be erased from the country despite the differences.

Having celebrated Christmas in two countries, one being England, Sidrak emphasised how both experiences are completely different. “While the aura and vibe of the holiday season is incomparable in England, nothing beats Pakistan,” Sidrak highlighted. “In Pakistan, there is closeness and warmth of family; you can never go wrong with that. I can’t say the same for London.”

Despite the holly jolly vibe of Christmas in London, with every street decorated, stores offering extensive sales, and choirs on every corner, Sidrak confessed that he would gladly give all of that up for some time with family. He, however, couldn’t deny the fact that for ‘obvious reasons’ the holiday vibe in Pakistan isn’t quite the same. Despite it all, he remarked that Christmas is much better in Pakistan.

As Christmas approaches, let’s take a moment to understand the importance of this holiday for our fellow Christians in Pakistan. Despite our differences, it’s time we make an effort to be inclusive, considerate and accepting, remembering those who are unable to celebrate openly.

Spacecraft Attempts Closest-Ever Approach to Sun

Spacecraft Attempts Closest-Ever Approach to Sun

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe is on a daring mission, diving into the Sun’s outer atmosphere—its corona—for a record-breaking close approach. This spacecraft is braving scorching temperatures and intense radiation, going closer to the Sun than any mission in history.

For now, communication with the probe is out. Scientists anxiously await a signal, expected on December 27, to confirm if it has survived this fly-by.

Why is Risk Flying Into the Sun?

Dr Nicola Fox, head of science at NASA, puts it best: “For centuries, people have studied the Sun, but you don’t experience the atmosphere of a place until you actually go visit it. And so we can’t really experience the atmosphere of our star unless we fly through it.”

The Sun’s outer atmosphere, or corona, is millions of degrees hotter than its surface—something scientists have long struggled to understand. By flying through this mysterious layer, the Parker Solar Probe could finally help explain why the corona is so blisteringly hot.

What Makes This Mission Special?

Launched in 2018, the Parker Solar Probe has already flown past the Sun 21 times, gradually getting closer. But its latest approach on Christmas Eve is groundbreaking. At just 3.8 million miles (6.2 million km) from the Sun, it’s like standing only four centimetres away from a blazing fire if Earth and the Sun were one meter apart.

To endure this extreme environment, the spacecraft is shielded by a carbon-composite layer 4.5 inches (11.5 cm) thick. Even so, it faces temperatures of 1,400°C and will travel at an incredible speed of 430,000 mph. That’s like flying from London to New York in less than 30 seconds!

Why Does This Matter to Us?

The mission isn’t just about solving mysteries—it could have real benefits for life on Earth. By studying solar wind (streams of charged particles from the Sun), scientists hope to better understand “space weather.” This phenomenon can create stunning auroras, but it also has a darker side. It can disrupt power grids, electronics, and communication systems.

Dr. Jenifer Millard, an astronomer at Fifth Star Labs, explains: “Understanding the Sun, its activity, space weather, the solar wind, is so important to our everyday lives on Earth.”

A Nerve-Wracking Christmas for NASA

While the Parker Solar Probe races through the Sun’s corona, NASA scientists are on edge. They’ve done everything to prepare the spacecraft for these brutal conditions, but now they can only wait. Dr Nicola Fox shares that as soon as the probe sends a signal, her team will text her a green heart emoji to confirm its survival.

“I will worry about the spacecraft,” she admits. “But we really have designed it to withstand all of these brutal, brutal conditions. It’s a tough, tough little spacecraft.”

As the Parker Solar Probe inches closer to unlocking the Sun’s secrets, the world waits to hear if it has triumphed over this daring mission. If successful, it could change how we understand and live with our closest star.
