The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has completed the design process for the country’s new currency notes, SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad announced during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Governor Ahmad revealed that the new designs, created by an international expert, aim to modernize Pakistan’s currency system. “We’ve completed the design selection process, and the next phase will begin once we receive final approval from the Cabinet,” he said.
After the Cabinet gives the green light, the SBP will start printing the new notes. While the official release date remains undisclosed, the central bank assured that all details, including the final designs and release schedule, will be shared with the public after approval.
For now, some images circulating online come from a previous SBP art competition and do not represent the actual designs.
Purpose of the New Notes
The introduction of the new series aims to:
-
Strengthen anti-counterfeiting measures
-
Enhance security features
-
Refresh the look and feel of Pakistani currency.
-
Boost public trust in the financial system.
Until the official release, people should continue using the current notes, as they remain fully valid.
