BBC Two-Newsnight, a television programme was to kick off Wednesday night with a footage of Imran Khan to commemorate his journey from a Cricket Hero to a Pakistani Politician.

Instead, the clip which was played was not of the former skipper and potential Prime Minister, but of his teammate Wasim Akram, who is also known as the ‘Sultan of Swing’!

Presenter Evan Davis had apologised at the end of the program for the mistake.

“We made a mistake in our opening tonight. The footage we showed was of the cricketer Wasim Akram not Imran Khan. Don’t know how that happened, sincere apologies for that,”

BBC Newsnight also posted an apology on Twitter, however, ended up being trolled by their followers who found the mistake unacceptable.

A BBC spokesperson, on Thursday, said;

“We’d like to reiterate the sincere apology we made on air last night for an error that occurred during the programme.

“We are looking into how this mistake happened and will be tightening our processes on Newsnight to prevent an incident like this happening again.”

Last year, the news channel had mistaken Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor as the late Shashi Kapoor when the news broke out about his passing.
