iPhone users who are still running their devices on iOS 8.0 will no longer be able to use WhatsApp from February 2020.

According to the latest update, “on iOS 8, you can no longer create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts,”

“For the best experience, we recommend you use the latest version of iOS available for your phone,” WhatsApp said.

This means WhatsApp will run on devices with iOS 9 and onward.

“We don’t explicitly restrict the use of jail-broken or unlocked devices. However, because these modifications might affect the functionality of your device, we can’t provide support for devices using modified versions of the iPhone’s operating system,” update further stated.

On the other hand, Android users who are on versions 2.3.7 and older will also be no long able to re-verify accounts or create new ones. The service will shut down for both iOS 8 and Android 2.3.7 on February 1, 2020.
