Wasim Akram, might be retired from professional cricket but he is still revered in different circles nationally and internationally. Earlier this week, the ‘Sultan of Swing’ received an honorary fellowship from the University of Central Lancashire for his contributions to the field of cricket.

“There are no shortcuts in life. Work hard, believe and become,” were his words to the crowd at the graduation ceremony.

Arsalan Hyder, the cricketer’s manager confirmed that the head of assessments and awards approached them from UCLAN and that it had been in discussion for quite some time.

The last Asian player who received this honorary fellowship was India’s Saurav Gangulay in 2009.
