Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Sindh government will introduce an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service in the province through a public-private partnership. He shared that EV taxi services already operate in many countries, and now Sindh will start its eco-friendly version.
In the first phase, the government will launch 100 EV taxis. Sharjeel Memon explained that this project will not only support the environment but also create jobs. “Each taxi will be operated by at least two drivers,” he said, highlighting the employment potential.
He added, “Eco-friendly EV taxis will contribute to addressing environmental challenges.” This shows the government’s goal to fight pollution and promote cleaner transportation.
Sharjeel Memon also announced a special initiative for women. The Sindh government plans to start an EV Pink Taxi service for female passengers. Only women will drive and ride in these taxis. “This is aimed at promoting the concept of women’s empowerment,” he said.

This move supports women’s safety and independence while creating job opportunities for female drivers. It also gives women a comfortable and secure way to travel. By introducing this service, the government wants to create a more inclusive transport system.
The EV taxi project uses a partnership model between the public and private sectors. This model helps the government move forward without managing every detail alone. It also allows private companies to invest in clean and efficient transport solutions.
The government chose to begin with 100 taxis to test the service before expanding. Since each vehicle will need two drivers, this first phase will open at least 200 job opportunities. The focus on clean energy and employment makes this initiative an important step for the province.
