Pakistan has named a concentrated five-member team for the Asian Athletics Championships, to be held from May 27 to 31 in Gumi, South Korea. While the team is small in size, it is filled with promise, featuring players like Arshad Nadeem, who couple top-level experience with upcoming talent.
Arshad Nadeem Leads the Way
At the core of the team is Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s crowned athletics hero. Famous for his javelin heroics at the world level, Arshad will lead the nation’s hopes once again. Accompanying him in the javelin throw is Yasir Sultan, an emerging name who has new life and robust domestic form to offer the competition.

Track Talent on Display
In the sprint events, Shajar Abbas and Mueed Baloch will both participate in the 400m. Shajar, who is considered Pakistan’s quickest man, has been setting personal bests all season. He is hoping for a breakthrough performance on the continental level. Baloch has also impressed with steady finishes in regional competitions.
On the women’s side, Tameen Khan will be the Pakistan representative in the 100m dash. She is included as proof of an increase in focus placed on women’s athletics development within the nation, and she’ll seek to establish her position among Asia’s quickest.

More than Just Participation
While Arshad is likely to bid for a podium spot, the other members of the team are set to make their own mark. For others, it is not merely a medal quest—it’s a springboard to long-term global recognition. The Pakistan Athletics Federation has stressed performance, not participation, as the criterion for selection in this year’s team.

Gumi Sets the Stage
With Asia’s best athletes converging in South Korea, the pressure is on. Pakistan’s track and field squad might be tiny, but it’s packed with fighters who will punch above their weight. Arshad will look to bag another medal for himself, while the sprinters will look to close the gap on Asia’s best.
With the countdown to the championships on, Pakistan’s athletes are gearing up to perform—fast, far, and fearless.
