After a hiatus of 12 years, international tennis will return to the soil of Pakistan with Davis Cup tie! A 7-member Iranian squad will be playing in Islamabad for the Asia/Oceania Group II from February 3 to 5.

Both, the Iranian players and Pakistani team are gearing up to lock horns in the capital. The Pakistani team comprises of Aqeel Khan, Aisam-Ul-Haq, Abid Ali Akbar Abid Mushtaq and Rashid Malik as the captain.

Khalid Rehmani, Secretary, Pakistan Tennis Federation said:

“It will be important for Pakistan tennis which has suffered a lot due to no Davis Cup tie or international tennis being held in Pakistan in the last 12-years,”

Leading tennis player, Aisam-ul-Haq is quite ecstatic about Pakistan hosting one of the biggest events of tennis!

Already on day 1 today on Friday, he and Aqeel Khan have taken a 2-0 lead against Iran. Playing the opening singles, Aqeel defeated his rival Shahin Khaledan 7-6, 6-4, 6-2. Aisam won against Anoosha Shahgholi 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
