As Mother’s Day Nears, Let's Take a Look at the Iconic Mothers of Pakistani Entertainment
As Mother’s Day Nears, Let's Take a Look at the Iconic Mothers of Pakistani Entertainment

As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s hard not to reflect on the women who have shaped our lives with silent strength, unyielding love and boundless sacrifice.

In Pakistan, television dramas are more than just entertainment, but a way to represent the nation and its unsung heroes. These dramas have birthed some of the most unforgettable characters of motherhood, reflecting the struggles and emotions of real mothers across the country.

These on-screen mothers aren’t just fictional portrayals, they are reflections of the mothers in our society. Mothers who are sometimes idealised, sometimes flawed, but always deeply human.

So, here are all the iconic mothers of the Pakistani Entertainment industry that deserve our praise:

Sajida Bibi in Udaari: A Mother’s Courage in the Face of Evil

Samiya Mumtaz’s portrayal of Sajida Bibi in Udaari was truly one of the strongest characters shown in Pakistani dramas. Sajida was not just a mother; she was a warrior. When her daughter was raped by the very man she trusted, Sajida did what many mothers in our society are afraid to do: she stood up, spoke out, and fought back.

Her pain was palpable, but so was her strength. Through her, Udaari challenged deeply ingrained taboos and showed that a mother’s love can be revolutionary too. Sajida became a beacon of hope for countless women who have endured pain in silence.

She showed how simple women can turn the world upside down when their children are at stake. It was an open message to the mothers of our nation to be the strength of their daughters.

Bilqees in Bilqees Kaur: A Matriarchal Woman of Steel

Played with unforgettable grace by Bushra Ansari, Bilqees in Bilqees Kaur was a strict, religious matriarch living in New York. The character was the perfect example of the fear of identity and respect being lost in society. It is a concept very prevalent among adults in Pakistan.

Bilqees Kaur strongly believed in the ‘spare the rod, spoil the child’ mentality and tried desperately to preserve her cultural roots. Often at the cost of her children’s happiness. Although Bilquees cuts a domineering figure, her past explains her bitterness. Having eloped with Iqbal and converted to Islam in her youth, she is eaten up by the guilt of her decisions and thus becomes adamant to instill traditional values in her children.

Behind that rigid exterior was just a mother who was full of fear. Her journey is the literal representation of the mothers of our nation who want the best for their children and often overlook the need to be soft and present.

Saliha in Dastaan: A Mother Torn by Partition

Who can forget Samina Peerzada’s haunting portrayal of Saliha in Dastaan? Set against the backdrop of Partition, Dastaan gave us a mother who lived through history’s most painful fracture and tried to hold her family together in the midst of it. This mother sacrificed her and honour for her daughter and died in the process it.

Saliha’s portrayal wasn’t just personal — it was national. Saliha’s grief, dignity and longing spoke to all those women who’ve lost children to war, migration and time. She’s amazing example to all mothers this Mother’s Day.

Farida in Humsafar : The Mother Who Loved too Fiercely

Perhaps one of the most talked-about maternal characters is Farida, played by Atiqa Odho in Humsafar. The character of Farida wasn’t the archetypal nurturing mother; she was ambitious, controlling and desperate to keep her son to herself.

And yet, as much as viewers loved to hate her, Farida was a reflection of the types of mothers that exist in our society. These mothers love so deeply that it turns into fear and possessiveness. Her fiery delivery of dialogues like ‘Woh mere Ashar k qabil nahi hai!’ and ‘Main usko doodh me makhi ki tarhan nikal dongi’! matched her obsession with perfection for her son.

Her character sparked debate, but more than that, it sparked recognition. Just how willing mothers can be to get the best for their children, even if it makes them a villain.

Rafia in Zindagi Gulzar Hai – Quiet Strength and Unshakable Faith

Rafia, portrayed beautifully by Samina Peerzada in Zindagi Gulzar Hai, is the epitome of quiet strength. Abandoned by her husband and left to raise three daughters on her own, Rafia never once lets bitterness cloud her vision.

Instead, she empowered her daughters, especially Kashaf. She taught her to rise above their circumstances. She nurtured independence, confidence, and self-worth in her daughters.

Rafia’s quiet faith in her children and her unwavering dignity in the face of life’s injustices make her a character who continues to resonate deeply with viewers, especially, with real-life mothers who have suffered storms in silence.

Why These Mothers Matter

What makes these characters unforgettable isn’t just the performances — it’s how they speak to our collective experience. Pakistani mothers are often expected to be saints and martyrs, wise and selfless. But these dramas show us that mothers are also just humans with flaws, fears, dreams and heartbreaks.

The mothers of Pakistani television may be fictional, but their emotional truths are real. They taught us empathy. They made us cry. They helped us forgive. And maybe, just maybe, they helped us see our own mothers a little more clearly.

Happy Mother’s Day in Advance!

Meta Launches Llama API Aiming to Attract AI Development Talent

Meta Platforms has launched a new API for its Llama AI models, aiming to attract developers and companies seeking customisable AI tools. The company made this announcement during its first AI developer conference, underscoring its intent to compete with Openai, Google, and emerging players like China’s DeepSeek.

“You can now start using Llama with one line of code,” said Chris Cox, Meta’s Chief Product Officer. The Llama API is currently in limited preview, but Meta plans to expand access in the coming months.

Although Meta hasn’t revealed pricing details yet, it continues to offer Llama largely for free. This strategy supports Meta’s broader push to drive innovation and increase Llama’s integration into its ecosystem. During the event, Meta also introduced a standalone AI assistant app and confirmed plans to test a paid AI chatbot subscription in the second quarter of the year.

Executives emphasised the flexibility of their models. Manohar Paluri, Meta’s Vice President of AI, stated, “Whatever model you customise is yours to take wherever you want, not locked on our servers.” This allows users to build and move their models freely, without being confined to Meta’s infrastructure.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg also spoke at the event. He explained that Meta’s open model approach reduces the industry’s dependency on a few major AI players. “If another model, like DeepSeek, is better at something, you can now combine the best intelligence from multiple models,” he said.

Meta’s latest version of Llama boasts faster performance and lower costs. The company is positioning it as a more affordable and developer-friendly option in the increasingly competitive AI landscape.

With this API launch, Meta is betting that openness and flexibility will drive adoption, inspire innovation, and boost engagement across its platforms.

Pop powerhouse Charli XCX is diving into the world of horror cinema. Fresh off the success of her Grammy-winning album Brat, the singer-songwriter is set to both star in and co-produce the next film from legendary Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike. This unexpected collaboration promises a wild fusion of Charli’s edgy pop persona and Miike’s signature shock-horror aesthetic.

The Miike Factor: Master of the Macabre

Takashi Miike, widely acclaimed in cult film culture for off-putting classics such as Audition and Ichi the Killer, offers a high-level pedigree of provocative storytelling. With more than 100 films in a variety of genres—spanning horror and yakuza action, through dark comedies—Miike is synonymous with his refusal to shy away from violence and the surreal. Sham, his new film, is already slated to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.

This is the second film through Charli’s production company, Studio365. Her first, The Moment, is an A24 feature in which she also has a lead role. Her producing role indicates a greater creative investment than merely acting. With Brat reshaping her image and influence, Charli XCX is evidently broadening her artistic scope across media.

What We Know About the Film

Details remain tightly guarded, but the film’s script is being written by Ross Evans, known for How to Save a Marriage, currently in development with Robert Pattinson attached as producer. Given Miike’s track record, fans can expect a project that’s visceral, unpredictable, and far from mainstream.

This Miike collaboration is part of Charli’s expanding filmography. She’ll star in 100 Nights of Hero with Nicholas Galitzine and Emma Corrin, and in the horror remake Faces of Death. Other productions include Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, the thriller The Gallerist with Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega, and Erupcja, co-written with playwright Jeremy O. Harris.

A Summer of Shock and Stardom

With Takashi Miike’s visionary sensibilities and Charli XCX’s bold imagination, this new project has the potential to be the moment of 2025 cinema. Whether a cult classic in the works or a genre push gone rogue, one thing is for sure—Takashi Miike summer is arriving, and Charli XCX is not here to play.

Flops of the Season: The Most Disappointing Performances in PSL 10

Source: ESPN

PSL 10 was expected to be the milestone season commemorating a decade of T20 cricket in the country. However, it was tainted by disappointing performances of star players and teams, sparking widespread dismay across fans and observers.

Multan Sultans: A Season to Forget

Multan Sultans, under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan, went into PSL 10 with much expectation. Though they had a good team, the team struggled at the bottom of the points table, securing just one win in their first five games. Rizwan blamed the poor show for fielding errors and a lack of momentum. The team’s woes were further exacerbated by internal conflicts, such as a heated argument between Rizwan and teammate Iftikhar Ahmed during a game.

Mohammad Rizwan: Captaincy Under the Microscope

Rizwan’s captaincy was criticised as the Sultans were unable to give consistent performances. His decision to remove himself from wicketkeeping responsibilities was regarded by some as a tactical ploy to concentrate on captaincy , yet it did nothing to alter the fortune of the team. His tactics and ability to motivate the team under pressure were criticised by critics.

Babar Azam: A Star Fades

Peshawar Zalmi skipper Babar Azam also came in for criticism for his patchy performances. During a highly rated match, he was bowled out for a duck by Mohammad Amir, indicating how things had gone wrong for him in the competition. People were disappointed as much was expected from the run-scoring specialist.

Karachi Kings: Leadership Changes Fail to Inspire in PSL 10

Karachi Kings changed leadership prior to the tournament, naming David Warner captain. With the change, the team never gained momentum and ended up low in the standings. Warner’s captaincy didn’t translate to better performances, and fans became frustrated.

Pakistan Super League 10 was also hit by issues off the pitch. The overlap of the tournament schedule with the Indian Premier League (IPL) also resulted in many star players not able to commit like Kane Williamson. Although there were claims of higher digital viewership, the absence of live crowds killed the atmosphere of the tournament.

PSL 10, which was planned as a decadal celebration of cricket, became a season of letdowns. Underperforming sides, leadership issues, and extraneous factors led to a tournament that did not live up to the hype. With the league now looking towards the future, tackling these issues will be imperative in order to bring back its glory and provide the thrill the fans have grown accustomed to.

Babar Azam Silences the Noise Around His T20 Game

Babar Azam Silences the Noise Around His T20 Game
Babar Azam Silences the Noise Around His T20 Game

In the world of modern-day T20 cricket, where strike rates rule headlines and power-hitters dominate reels, Babar Azam often finds himself under fire due to his elegant, textbook style. But the former Pakistan captain and current Peshawar Zalmi skipper isn’t losing sleep over it.

In a refreshingly honest interview with a local news channel, Babar opened up about his T20 future, batting philosophy, and the pressure that comes with being Pakistan’s most talked-about cricketer. And let’s just say—he didn’t dodge any questions.

“Selection Isn’t in My Hands. Performance Is.”

When asked about his T20I future, especially after being rested from the recent series, Babar was calm and composed, almost philosophical.

“Only the selectors and coaches can answer what they’re thinking about my T20 career,” he said. “My job is to perform—whether it’s in T20s, ODIs, or Tests. Selection is not in my control. As long as Allah wills, I will continue to play.”

No drama, no pointed fingers. Just a cricketer trusting the process. In a cricket-obsessed nation where every squad announcement sparks a storm, that’s a rare quality.

“Yes, I Know the Strike Rate Talk Is Real.”

Babar knows the chatter. He hears the debates on YouTube, Twitter, and everywhere in between. But he’s also firm in his approach.

“I play according to my own game. I’m aware that nowadays there’s a lot of talk about strike rate and aggressive play. I know where cricket is heading,” he said.

There’s a quiet confidence in his words—a reminder that Babar’s career wasn’t built overnight. He’s had to adapt, evolve, and sometimes even step aside to let others shine. Yet he’s still here, scoring runs across formats.

“I’ve Never Said I Have to Open” – The Selfless Star

One of the more striking parts of the interview was Babar’s response to criticism around his batting position. While many fans believe he prefers to open, Babar flipped that narrative.

“No one has changed batting positions as much as I have,” he said. “Whenever someone new comes in, it’s Babar who changes his number.”

He’s batted at six, he’s opened in all formats, and he’s floated around the top order whenever the team needed. That’s not stubbornness—that’s selflessness.

“I’ve never had any personal goal that I must play as an opener,” he added. “I’m ready to play at any number according to the team’s requirements.”

In a rare moment of vulnerability, Babar admitted he hasn’t always met expectations, especially when it comes to playing long innings.

“People want to see me stay longer at the crease. Their expectations are high. I try to fix one mistake, but then a new one happens. That’s how it goes in cricket,” he said with a smile.

That honesty, that willingness to reflect without deflecting blame—that’s what sets Babar apart. Even in the age of highlight reels and viral moments, he stays grounded in his process.

Babar Azam may not fit the mold of your typical T20 firecracker. But in a world full of loud hitters and louder opinions, he’s the calm in the storm. He doesn’t shout back—he lets his bat do the talking, one elegant cover drive at a time.

Islamabad United Sign Local Power-Hitter Mohammad Faiq

Islamabad United Sign Local Power-Hitter Mohammad Faiq
Islamabad United Sign Local Power-Hitter Mohammad Faiq

Just when you thought Islamabad United couldn’t get any stronger, they go and sign Mohammad Faiq. The defending champions are already on a roll in PSL 10, and now they’ve added one of domestic cricket’s most explosive batters to their lineup. That’s not just depth—that’s a serious statement of intent.

Let’s dive into why Faiq’s arrival is such a big deal.

Mohammad Faiq: A Name You’re Going to Hear a Lot More

If you’ve been following Pakistan’s domestic T20 scene, chances are you’ve already heard about Mohammad Faiq. If not, let’s just say—you’re about to.

The 28-year-old powerhouse has made quite the impression with his consistent, fearless batting. He doesn’t just score runs—he dominates attacks.

Remember the National T20 Cup clash in Faisalabad last month? Faiq tore the bowling apart with a stunning 116 not out off just 56 balls for Lahore Whites. That knock featured 12 boundaries and six monster sixes, and it wasn’t even his first ton in the format.

He had already smashed an unbeaten 110 in the previous T20 season, and earlier this year, he set social media on fire with a 50-ball century. This guy doesn’t just turn heads—he makes them spin.

Why This Move Makes Sense for United?

Let’s be honest—Islamabad United are flying high. With five wins from five matches, they sit comfortably at the top of the table. But in a tournament as unpredictable as the PSL, you can never have too much firepower.

Enter Faiq. He’s the kind of player who can turn a match on its head in a few overs. Add that to a squad already stacked with the likes of Shadab Khan, Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Naseem Shah, and Colin Munro, and you’re looking at a serious title threat.

With the playoffs in sight, Faiq gives them an X-factor—a batter who can accelerate when needed or rescue the side from tricky situations. It’s a clever, calculated move from the franchise.

And there’s no better time to test the new recruit than tonight’s high-voltage clash against Lahore Qalandars. United thrashed them earlier this month with an eight-wicket win in Rawalpindi.

Will Mohammad Faiq debut tonight? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s safe to say United fans will be watching closely.

Islamabad United are not just building for the present—they’re planning for domination. Signing someone like Faiq, who’s hungry, in form, and oozing confidence, shows that they’re leaving no stone unturned in their hunt for a fourth PSL title.

Iqra Khalid, representing the Liberal Party, secured her fourth consecutive term in Mississauga. Her win not only represents a personal achievement, but the realisation of immigrant aspirations. Born in Pakistan and growing up in Canada since 1998, Khalid’s path has been one of academic distinction and public service. With law and criminology degrees, she has been an active participant in parliamentary committees and is most recognised for tabling Motion 103, which urges a national approach to combat systemic racism and religious discrimination.

Salma Zahid Continues Her Advocacy in Scarborough

Salma Zahid, another Liberal MP, was re-elected from the Scarborough Centre—Don Valley East riding with overwhelming support from her constituents. Elected for the first time in 2015, Zahid has been an advocate of minority rights and inclusive policies. Having academic qualifications from Quaid-e-Azam University and the University of London, she has infused Canadian politics with a global outlook. Her experience in civil service and grassroots mobilisation set the stage for her political life, particularly for advocating women and youth. In Parliament, she has spoken out on global human rights concerns and has been an ally to marginalised communities.

Their wins arrive during a time when political representation is not only a symbolic action—it’s a wake-up call. Both women reflect the values of empathy, equity, and persistence. They not only shattered glass ceilings but have also bridged gaps between their homeland and their new home.

A Win for the Pakistani Diaspora

For the Pakistani community in Canada, these re-elections are not just victories—they’re confirmations. They indicate that political engagement and representation are not only feasible but effective. Khalid and Zahid’s persistence in Canadian politics is a testament to how immigrant narratives can redefine national narratives, and how diversity isn’t merely celebrated, but genuinely effective when it gets its voice heard in public office.

Let’s break down what makes this series special and why fans should be marking their calendars right now.

Government Likely to Keep Oil Prices Unchanged from May 1st

Government Likely To Keep Oil Prices Unchanged From May 1
Government Likely to Keep Oil Prices Unchanged from May 1st

The government is expected to keep domestic oil prices unchanged starting May 1, 2025. This move comes as international oil markets show only minor changes.

For Premium Motor Gasoline (PMG), a very small price drop is expected. The price may go down by Rs 0.16 per litre, which is a 0.1% decrease. This change applies to both the ex-refinery and ex-depot levels.

High-Speed Diesel (HSD), which is widely used in transport and agriculture, will likely remain steady. It might see an increase of just Rs 0.01 per litre. Since diesel has a direct effect on inflation, keeping its price stable brings some relief.

On the other hand, prices of Kerosene and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) may go up. Kerosene is expected to rise by Rs1.30 per litre, which is a 0.9% increase. LDO might increase by Rs1.35 per litre, showing a 1.0% hike.

Read more:  India Planning Military Strike Within 24-36 Hours: Attaullah Tarar

These price changes are based on existing tax rates, the Inland Freight Equalisation Margin (IFEM), and there is no US dollar exchange rate adjustment added at the moment.

As of now, the PMG premium is recorded at $5.464 per barrel. This figure might change slightly as two more days of Platts data are still to be added to the calculation.

The government’s pricing decision is based on current oil pricing mechanisms and internal calculations. It aims to strike a balance between rising costs and public relief. Although the drop in PMG is very small, and HSD is nearly unchanged, the decision not to raise prices significantly comes as a stabilising measure. For diesel, particularly, the steady rate helps keep transportation and agriculture costs in check, which indirectly supports inflation control.

This pricing structure reflects current market trends and local factors influencing fuel costs. While Kerosene and LDO see slight increases, the overall strategy seems to focus on maintaining price stability for essential fuels like PMG and HSD.

Financial Literacy Month: Smart Money Moves Every Student Should Know

Financial Literacy Month: Smart Money Moves Every Student Should Know
Financial Literacy Month: Smart Money Moves Every Student Should Know

When you are young, you have plenty of time and good health, but not much money. In middle age, you may have money and still enjoy good health, but you often find you have little time. By the time you are old, you may have both money and time, but your health might be deteriorating. Unfortunately, many people realise they have enough money only when they no longer have time or health to enjoy it. Therefore, it’s important to be tactical about building wealth, especially during your youth.

April is Financial Literacy Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of managing money wisely. For students, this is a perfect opportunity to start building strong financial habits that can set the foundation for lifelong stability and success.

What is Financial Literacy?

Financial literacy is the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt. It’s about knowing how money works and how to make informed decisions about your finances. For students, becoming financially literate means gaining the tools to avoid debt traps, make smart spending choices, and prepare for a financially secure future.

Smart Money Moves Every Student Should Know

Here are some financial truths and tips that every student must know about:

1. Create a Budget and Stick to It

Budgeting is the cornerstone of financial literacy. Start by tracking your income, whether from a part-time job, allowances, or financial aid, and compare it to your expenses.

Break expenses down into categories like necessities and extra luxury expenses etc. Use budgeting apps or simple spreadsheets to stay on top of where your money is going.

2. Save as Much as You Can

Even if you’re only able to save a small amount each month, it adds up over time. Set up a savings account and aim to save at least 10% of your income.

Read More: Meta Reveals Simplest Way to Earn Money from Facebook

This habit prepares you for unexpected expenses and future goals, such as studying abroad, buying a laptop, or moving into your first apartment.

3. Use Credit Wisely

Credit cards can be useful tools when used responsibly. Start building your credit history with a student credit card, but be sure to pay off your balance in full every month to avoid interest and debt. Understanding interest rates, due dates, and credit limits is essential to keeping your finances healthy.

4. Limit Student Loan Debt

Student loans are sometimes necessary, but it’s important to borrow only what you need. Look for scholarships, grants, and work-study opportunities first. If you do take out loans, understand the terms, including interest rates and repayment options after graduation.

5. Learn the Basics of Investing

While it may seem premature, learning the basics of investing while you’re still a student can give you a huge advantage. Understanding concepts like compound interest, stocks, and retirement accounts (like Roth IRAs) can motivate you to start investing early, even with small amounts.

6. Distinguish Wants from Needs

Financial discipline often comes down to making smarter spending choices. Ask yourself whether a purchase is a necessity or a want. Making these distinctions can help you avoid impulse spending and prioritise your financial well-being.

7. Educate Yourself Continuously

Financial literacy is an ongoing journey. Take advantage of free resources—workshops, podcasts, YouTube channels, and articles to deepen your understanding. The more informed you are, the better decisions you’ll make.

By adopting smart money habits early, like budgeting, saving and responsible borrowing; you set yourself up for a more secure and confident future. Remember, the small steps you take now can lead to big financial wins later.

India Planning Military Strike Within 24-36 Hours: Attaullah Tarar

India Planning Military Strike Within 24-36 Hours: Attaullah Tarar
India Planning Military Strike Within 24-36 Hours: Attaullah Tarar

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has warned that India is planning a military attack against Pakistan within the next 24 to 36 hours. He said this in a video statement posted late Tuesday, citing credible and verified intelligence reports. Tarar explained that India is using the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as an excuse for possible military action. The Pahalgam incident left 26 people dead.

“There is verified intelligence indicating that India intends to carry out a military operation against Pakistan. India is using the Pahalgam incident as justification for aggression,” said the minister.

He clearly stated that if India carries out any form of aggression, Pakistan will respond decisively and strongly. “Pakistan will hold India fully responsible for the potentially disastrous consequences in the region,” he warned.

Tarar dismissed India’s accusations and rejected its narrative. He said Pakistan would not accept India’s self-assigned role as “plaintiff, judge and executioner” in regional issues. He reminded that Pakistan itself has suffered from terrorism for more than 20 years and continues to condemn terrorism in all forms across the world.

The minister pointed out that Pakistan had taken a responsible approach after the Pahalgam incident. He said Pakistan had offered an independent and neutral investigation to uncover the real facts and motives behind the attack. “Unfortunately, India chose the path of irrationality and confrontation,” Tarar stated.

He added that India’s refusal to agree to a neutral investigation shows its real intentions. “Using such attacks to pursue political objectives is both unfortunate and condemnable,” he said.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, Tarar concluded: “Any military adventurism from India will receive a certain and decisive response. The international community must recognise that responsibility for any catastrophic escalation will rest solely with India. The people of Pakistan will defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs.”

Modi Gives Army Full “Operational Freedom” After Pahalgam Attack

Modi Gives Army Full “Operational Freedom” After Pahalgam Attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given India’s military full freedom to respond to the deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), according to a senior Indian government official who spoke to AFP on Tuesday. The decision came after India blamed Pakistan for the attack, but no evidence was shared publicly. This has further increased tension between the two nuclear-armed countries.

Modi had a closed-door meeting with army and security officials on Tuesday. He instructed them to independently decide the “mode, targets and timing” of the response. The government later released a video showing Modi in a serious discussion with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and senior military leaders.

Tension at the LoC

Meanwhile, firing continued along the Line of Control (LoC), with India accusing Pakistan of “unprovoked” small arms fire for the fifth straight night. Pakistan’s army shot down two Indian drones that had violated its airspace. India did not respond publicly as of the time this report was written.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke on the phone with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and India’s Foreign Minister. He expressed “deep concern” about the rising tension. PM Shehbaz condemned terrorism in all forms but said India’s accusations were “baseless.” He asked for a transparent and neutral investigation into the Pahalgam attack and warned against India’s attempts to delegitimise the Kashmiri freedom struggle.

Shehbaz also said India’s use of water as a weapon was unacceptable and reminded that water is vital for 240 million people in Pakistan. He warned, “Pakistan will defend its sovereignty with full force against any Indian misadventure” and urged the UN chief to advise India to “act responsibly and exercise restraint.” Guterres praised Pakistan’s efforts for peace and said the world could not afford conflict between two nuclear states.

The April 22 attack in Pahalgam killed 26 civilians, making it one of the deadliest in years. India issued wanted posters for three suspects, including two Pakistanis and one Indian. A reward of two million rupees has been announced for each. Indian forces are arresting people across the region.

Pakistan’s military spokesperson, DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, held a press conference in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. He said Indian army officers were involved in cross-border terrorism and supplying explosives to attackers. “Seven days have passed since the Pahalgam incident, and so far, India has not presented any evidence for its baseless allegations,” he said. He added that India is running a terror network in Pakistan, giving militants IEDs, explosives and money. “This irrefutable evidence is just one small part of India’s state-sponsored terrorism,” he stated.

Gold Prices Surge in Pakistan Following Global Market Rally

Gold Prices Surge in Pakistan Following Global Market Rally

Gold prices in Pakistan saw a sharp increase on Tuesday, driven by a strong rally in the international market and further fueled by the continuous depreciation of the Pakistani rupee.

According to the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association, the price of 24-karat gold rose by Rs2,100 per tola, reaching Rs349,200 — a significant jump reflecting both global and local pressures. Similarly, the price for 10 grams climbed by Rs1,800, now sitting at Rs299,382.

This spike comes as global gold prices jumped by $21 per ounce, hitting $3,310, a fresh high. The surge highlights renewed interest in gold as a safe-haven asset amid global economic concerns, inflation fears, and geopolitical tensions.

Jewellers in local markets say the rally is largely influenced by two major factors: international demand and a weakening rupee. Since gold is imported and traded in dollars, any fall in the local currency translates into higher domestic prices.

“We’re seeing a strong reaction in prices, and it’s a mix of global cues and our rupee’s situation,” said a jeweller in Karachi. “While some buyers are hesitant due to the spike, long-term investors are still showing interest.”

Despite the bullish momentum, there was some cooling in the market during early trading. As of 0935 GMT, spot gold slipped 0.8% to $3,313.23 an ounce, while US gold futures dropped 0.7% to $3,323.80. Experts say price corrections like this are typical after steep climbs.

Other precious metals also saw movement. Silver rose 0.4% to $33.30 an ounce, platinum edged up 0.2% to $988.60, while palladium dipped 0.5% to $944.22.

With economic uncertainty looming and currency pressures unlikely to ease soon, analysts expect gold to remain in focus both globally and in Pakistan. For many, it’s not just about jewellery anymore — it’s about stability in unstable times.

Pakistan Shoots Downs an Indian Quadcopter for Airspace Violation Near LoC

Pakistan Shoots Downs an Indian Quadcopter for Airspace Violation Near LoC

Pakistani security forces shot down an Indian quadcopter on Tuesday for violating the country’s airspace near the Line of Control (LoC), according to state media. The incident took place in the Kotli sector of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan’s state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that the quadcopter was entering Pakistani territory from the Indian side when it was shot and brought down.

The APP cited unnamed security sources about the incident, reporting, “Pakistan Army troops shot down an Indian spying quadcopter in the Kotli sector.” According to these sources, the Indian drone violated Pakistan’s airspace and entered about 600 meters across the LoC before troops shot it down.

Pakistan has repeatedly highlighted previous incidents of Indian drones intruding into its airspace across the LoC. This latest event adds to the ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, who have a history of border conflicts in the disputed Kashmir region. According to APP, there was no official statement from India immediately after the incident.

History of Drone Violations and Tensions Near the Line of Control

  • Pakistan and India often accuse each other of violating airspace and ceasefire agreements along the heavily militarised LoC.
  • The LoC divides the Indian-administered portion of Jammu and Kashmir from the area controlled by Pakistan.
  • Both countries claim the Himalayan region in its entirety.

Media reports from previous years highlight that similar aerial violations have occurred in the past. Pakistani forces shot down multiple Indian drones in 2020 and 2021, which, according to Pakistani military statements, had crossed into Pakistani airspace for surveillance purposes.

No Immediate Response from Indian Authorities

According to the APP, Indian officials have not responded to this latest claim. Such incidents often trigger diplomatic protests between both sides, but rarely escalate further. Tensions remain high along the LoC, where sporadic clashes and ceasefire violations still take place despite past agreements.

Karachi University floods, resulting in an overflow of water on the premises and the surrounding area. This happened after a main pipeline, 83 inches wide, burst on the campus, flooding half of the neighbouring areas and the university campus alike. Water has infiltrated homes, causing a flood-like situation, causing great distress to people living in the area.

Failure to Take Action

Despite constant complaints and prior warnings by the residents, authorities have failed to take any action to fix the pipeline. Currently, the pipeline supplied water to various neigbourhoods in Karachi, which means that this incident would affect the lives of many for the upcoming weeks.

The IMF Executive Board will meet on May 9 to decide on the disbursement of a $1.1 billion loan tranche to Pakistan, following a staff-level agreement reached in March.

This development brought a mild recovery in Pakistan’s stock market, which bounced back 135 points after an earlier dip of 500 points. The PSX had opened weak, affected by rising Pakistan-India tensions following a deadly attack in Pahalgam, IIOJK.

Alongside the tranche, Pakistan is also set to receive $1.3 billion in climate financing under a new 28-month programme, bringing total support to $2.3 billion. The funds will target reforms in climate resilience and the energy sector.
