Neelum Valley Faces Blackout Amid Pak-India Border Tensions

A complete blackout occurred in Azad Kashmir’s Neelum Valley on Sunday night due to possible escalation on the Pakistan-India border. Officials said electricity was intentionally cut from the Nausori grid station, which also powers the Jagran and Sargan stations. The Electricity Department said this was a precautionary step due to rising border tensions.

At the same time, Indian media reported that the Ferozepur Cantonment in India also carried out a blackout drill. “The blackout was from 9 PM to 9:30 PM. As per the orders of the senior officers, lights were fully switched off. If any vehicle was found with its light turned on, it was turned off…Police are fully alert. Deployment has been made at all intersections,” Indian media quoted Gurjant Singh, SHO, Ferozepur Cantt Police Station.

On Monday, a group of local and foreign journalists visited the Line of Control (LoC) along with Minister for Information Ataullah Tarar. The purpose of the visit was to counter India’s claims about alleged militant hideouts in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The delegation visited specific sites India had identified and met local residents to see the ground reality for themselves.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have increased since the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian-occupied Kashmir, where 26 tourists died. Following this, Indian authorities accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism. In response, Pakistan denied the allegations and organised the LoC visit for the media.

Pakistan also suspended its adherence to the 1972 Simla Agreement after India withdrew from the Indus Waters Treaty and took other hostile steps such as banning visas, denying Pakistani entry, and expelling diplomatic staff.

Political experts have expressed concern over the possibility of further escalation along the LoC. The United States and China have urged both countries to remain calm and resolve the crisis peacefully.

Sindh Government Bans All Plastic Bags From June 15

In a major move to fight environmental pollution, the Sindh government has banned all kinds of plastic shopping bags throughout the province. The decision will take effect from June 15, 2025, as stated in a formal notification issued by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development.

The ban includes all types of plastic bags, such as non-degradable, oxo-degradable, black-coloured and recycled plastic bags. This step updates and strengthens the “Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products Rules” from 2014, which have now been amended to implement a complete ban.

The Sindh cabinet approved the decision in a meeting held on April 15, 2025. The Environment Department had recommended this step, and the cabinet gave unanimous approval.

Earlier in 2019, the provincial government had introduced a partial ban. It allowed plastic bags of a specific size and weight, but that exception has now been removed completely.

Sindh’s Environment Secretary Agha Shahnawaz Khan said, “Plastic bags are enemies of the environment. This historic step is in the public interest. We aim to ensure a clean, green, and safe future for the coming generations. The time has come to get rid of plastic permanently.”

He also warned that anyone violating the ban would face legal action. “No leniency will be shown,” he said.

The decision received wide support from environmentalists, civil society, and citizens. Many described it as “historic.” The Environment Department has also urged district administrations, industrialists, business owners and the general public to take part in this important national effort.

Iran invited Araqchi for two meetings in Islamabad to talk about “how to reduce tensions in the subcontinent,” according to Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam, who spoke to TASS.

This immediately caught the attention of the masses as it seemed like Babil was calling these celebrities out on something. The immediate impression was that these celebrities led to this state of the actor.

Almost immediately, the actor deleted the video and has now deleted his account too, adding more to the speculation.

Babil Khan’s Family Releases Statement

However, soon after the incident happened, Babil’s family immediately rushed to clear the mass. As of now, the family has issued an official statement regarding this matter. The statement clarified Babil Khan’s stance and acknowledged that the actor is going through “difficult days.” It also reassured fans that he is “safe and will be feeling better soon.” Regarding the names mentioned, according to the statement, Babil has been misunderstood and he was just acknowledging his peers.

The statement read: “Over the past few years, Babil Khan has earned immense love and appreciation for his work, as well as for his openness about his mental health journey. Like anyone else, Babil is allowed to have difficult days — and this was one of them. We want to reassure all his well-wishers that he is safe and will be feeling better soon.

Was Babil Really Appreciating His Peers? Didn’t Seem Like it

It seems like the family has given an absolute diplomatic statement to save the actor’s career. Perhaps to save him from the wrath that is to come.

If it was true and Babil was truly appreciating his peers, then why did he do it while crying and cursing out the industry (right after mentioning the names of the actors). And most importantly, why did he delete his account then? Many have compared Babil’s situation to that of the late Sushant Singh Rajput and hence they are not buying anything the PR team and the family is trying to say.

Pakistan Successfully Test Launches Fatah Series Missile

Pakistan carried out a successful training launch of a surface-to-surface missile from the Fatah series, with a 120-kilometre range, during the ongoing military exercise Indus. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) shared this update on Monday.

This marked the second missile test by the Pakistan Army following rising tensions with India, which have intensified since New Delhi accused Islamabad of backing the deadly Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The incident led to serious fallout between the two countries.

According to ISPR, the launch aimed to ensure the operational readiness of troops and to validate technical features of the missile. These included the advanced navigation system and improved accuracy.

Top army officials, scientists, and engineers from Pakistan’s strategic organisations were present at the launch. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir praised the troops, scientists and engineers involved in the drill. They said they have full confidence in the Pakistan Army’s preparation and technical capabilities to counter any threat to national sovereignty.

Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise as Pakistan warned that India might be planning a military incursion following Modi’s aggressive statements. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that those behind the Pahalgam attack would be punished “beyond their imagination.”

In contrast, Pakistan has maintained a composed response and proposed a neutral investigation into the attack. Indian leaders and media, however, keep pushing aggressive narratives.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar addressed an event in Islamabad, assuring the international community of Pakistan’s commitment to peace. “You have to work on the other side, don’t worry about us. I have given you my word. We will exercise restraint,” Dar said.

In a blog post, Microsoft said, “To better meet customer needs, we are retiring Skype and shifting focus to Microsoft Teams (free).” This move is part of the company’s effort to simplify its services.

For current Skype users, moving to Teams should be straightforward. You can log in using your Skype ID, and your contacts and chat history will transfer over. Microsoft began informing users early, giving everyone time to adjust. The company also promises to provide support during the transition.

Apple is set to take a $900 million loss in this quarter because of growing tariffs. During Apple’s Q2 2025 earnings call, CEO Tim Cook said the future is uncertain. “It’s very difficult to predict beyond June,” he said, as the company faces the long-term effects of tariffs introduced during the Trump era, which are still in place and may become even stricter.

So far, most of Apple’s products have not been directly affected by these tariffs. But the cost pressures are starting to show. To reduce the impact, Apple has increased production outside China. The company now makes many U.S.-bound products like iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and AirPods in India and Vietnam.

According to the Financial Times and Reuters, Apple has also asked its suppliers to get iPhone 16 batteries from India. This step is part of their effort to avoid the high tariffs.

However, these changes might not be enough. Tariffs set to rise in July could hurt Apple more, especially when it comes to AppleCare accessories. Some of these accessories still face tariffs up to 145% if brought in from China.

Tim Cook gave credit to Apple’s supply chain team for handling the tough situation well. “I think the operations team has done a phenomenal job,” he said. But he also made it clear that things are still risky.

Right now, there is no sign that customers are changing how they shop or stocking up before prices possibly go up. Cook said, “We haven’t seen any evidence of customers changing buying patterns or stockpiling ahead of expected price increases.”

Besides the tariff trouble, Apple is also facing a legal issue with Epic Games. A federal judge recently ruled that Apple has to stop charging commissions on purchases made outside its App Store. The judge also referred Apple to the U.S. Department of Justice for possible criminal contempt. This comes after claims that Apple didn’t follow a previous court order.

Apple said it will appeal the decision.

Snapchat Outage: What Happened?

Reports of problems began to surface early in the day, with users in major cities like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar experiencing difficulties. The disruption was not limited to Pakistan; users in the UK, France, and other countries also reported similar issues. According to Downdetector, a website that monitors online service outages, thousands of people worldwide were affected. About 57% of affected users said they were unexpectedly logged out, while 24% faced problems sharing content, and 18% had difficulty uploading media.

In Pakistan, Downdetector’s data showed that 53% of users reported being unable to access the app. Over 28% had problems sharing and 19% could not upload anything as of 6pm on Sunday.

No Official Statement from Snapchat

What made matters worse was the radio silence from Snapchat itself. For hours, there was no official acknowledgment from the company. No tweets. No press release. No in-app notice. When a platform millions rely on goes down, users deserve transparency. A simple status update would have gone a long way.

However, tech analysts suggest that a server-side disruption or an update-related glitch could be the reason behind the global service failure.

Interestingly, some users have reported that Snapchat works when accessed through a Virtual Private Network (VPN), raising further questions about whether the issue could be region-specific or tied to server access restrictions.

A heat map from Downdetector highlighted trouble spots around the world, confirming that the outage was not isolated to one country. The platform only flags outages when the number of problem reports far exceeds the usual daily average, which was clearly the case during this incident.

Gone for Good?

Some users came to X to share their opinions that the app being down is not a significant issue. Perhaps it’s gone for good (if it is banned). Some people think it was not widely used, nonetheless and serves no good purpose, so the panic is baseless. Others who depended on the app stated concerns and kept on asking for updates. The streaks are too important to lose.

An Indian court under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has declared Altaf Ahmed Bhat a Proclaimed Offender. Bhat is a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM). He has lived in Pakistan since the 1990s. The court filed a charge sheet against him in Srinagar and accused him of involvement in several cases.

Bhat strongly rejected the court’s decision. He described it as a deliberate attempt to silence the Kashmiri movement. In his words, “Kashmiris will not be intimidated by India’s nefarious tactics. No amount of oppression or arrests will deter us.”

He also criticised the Indian government for using the Pahalgam incident as a pretext to carry out violent crackdowns in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He said these actions mirror Israeli operations in Palestine. According to him, Indian forces have demolished homes, displaced families, and expelled Kashmiri students from educational institutions across India.

Bhat highlighted the scale of the repression. He said authorities have arrested over 4,000 innocent Kashmiris. Families remain devastated, with “mothers separated from sons, wives from husbands, and children from parents.” He called the situation a “heartbreaking humanitarian tragedy unparalleled in the modern world.”

He also warned about the risks of continued silence. Bhat stated that Kashmir has become a nuclear flashpoint. Rising tensions, he said, could pull both India and Pakistan—two nuclear-armed countries—closer to war.

He urged international bodies and the United Nations to act immediately. In his final remark, Bhat warned, “Delaying a just resolution to the Kashmir issue could lead to catastrophic consequences for the entire region.”

Pakistan Army Responds to Unprovoked Indian Firing on LoC

Indian forces have violated the ceasefire agreement by firing without provocation on Pakistani posts along the Line of Control (LoC). The Pakistan Army gave a strong and immediate response, silencing Indian guns.

Security officials said the Indian army opened fire on several LoC posts during the night. In response, the Pakistan Army took firm action. The firing targeted Nakyal, Khuiratta, Sharda, Kel, Neelum and Haji Pir sectors. Sources confirmed that the Pakistan Army remains fully ready to respond to any aggression by India.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting arranged a visit for local and international media to the LoC. The goal was to show the truth about India’s false claims of terrorist camps in Pakistan. A statement released on Saturday said, “The purpose of this visit was to expose India’s baseless and fabricated propaganda regarding so-called and imaginary ‘terrorist camps’ in Pakistan.”

India has often accused Pakistan of having terror camps near the LoC. During the media visit, journalists were taken to the exact locations where India had claimed such camps existed. Officials presented on-ground facts that clearly rejected these allegations.

“Pakistan reaffirms its steadfast commitment to peace and categorically rejects any form of terrorism or terrorist activities anywhere in the world,” the official statement added. It further stated, “The nation remains resolute in defending its sovereignty, and any aggression by India will be met with a swift and befitting response.”

Meanwhile, the federal government of Pakistan has imposed a complete ban on the import of goods from India by land, sea and air. The decision was made due to concerns over national security and public interest. As per official details, all Indian goods are now declared prohibited.

The government stated that no cargo will be allowed to move through Pakistani territory to India under any condition including sea, land and air routes.
