Kier Starmer Announces New Strict UK Immigration Rules: Here’s What You Should Know

Kier Starmer Announces New Strict UK Immigration Rules: Here’s What You Should Know
Kier Starmer Announces New Strict UK Immigration Rules: Here’s What You Should Know

On May 12, 2025, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer outlined sweeping UK immigration rules intended to cut net migration by a substantial amount, having reached 728,000 in mid-2024. Delivering a statement at a press conference in London, Starmer cautioned that Britain could become an “island of strangers” if tough action was not taken. The new regulations are the cornerstone of Labour’s Immigration White Paper, with the aim of “taking back control of our borders” through more stringent work, study, and family visa channels.

Starmer says net migration will fall with 'controlled, selective and fair' system

Care Workers Blocked from Foreign Recruitment

The most controversial step is perhaps the suspension of the overseas care worker visa. The government insists rogue recruiters have artificially inflated care job vacancies by recruiting tens of thousands of foreign workers, pushing UK-based candidates to the sidelines. The Home Office insists more than 40,000 suitable domestic candidates are waiting to take their place.

But the care sector is by no means reassured. “This is a devastating blow to a vulnerable sector,” declared Professor Martin Green, CEO of Care England. Amy Clark, a director at a care home in Cornwall, called the move “short-sighted and heartless,” warning that it will make current staff shortages worse.

Ten Years for Citizenship and Improved English Standards

Under the new regime, migrants have to reside in the UK for a decade before they can be eligible for settlement or citizenship—twice the current requirement. While English language thresholds are being increased across all immigration routes, this is now being extended to adult dependents for the first time. These policies, Starmer maintained, are necessary for social cohesion and integration in the long term.

Skilled Visas Now Demand a Degree

Another major reform will restore the skills threshold for work visas to degree level, undoing a policy implemented in 2021 that opened up space for additional low-skilled migration. Work below this threshold will be available only on a short-term basis, and only in areas with proven labour shortages.

Political and Public Backlash

The reaction has been divisive. Conservatives criticised Labour for borrowing their immigration agenda without acknowledging previous reforms. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp criticised Starmer as “soft on illegal immigration,” with Reform UK’s Nigel Farage labelling the new plan as “unrealistic political theater.

The Prime Minister’s use of the term “island of strangers” also caused outrage. Care4Calais and other human rights groups’ critics warned that such rhetoric has the potential to fuel xenophobia and provoke far-right backlash.

A Gamble on Public Sentiment

Though Starmer maintains the actions are intended to “balance compassion with control,” most worry that they signal an abandonment of Labour’s progressive spirit. Whether they cut migration or merely fuel political conflagrations, the reforms are a turning point in Britain’s immigration debate. At least this much is certain: the stakes—are higher than ever—for policy, public cohesion, and party legitimacy.

Shoaib Malik Resigns from PCB Mentorship Role, Says ‘Grateful But it’s Time to Move On’

Even though he's leaving his official position, Shoaib Malik was adamant that he's still dedicated to Pakistan cricket.
Even though he's leaving his official position, Shoaib Malik was adamant that he's still dedicated to Pakistan cricket.

In a surprise action that left most cricket enthusiasts and insiders stunned, erstwhile Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik formally resigned from the position of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ‘s domestic cricket mentor. Although the revelation was sudden, Malik’s emotive note conveyed that it had been a thought-out choice. His sentiments carried the force of decades-long commitment, accompanied by the foresight of realising when to back away.

His Role in Domestic Cricket

Malik came to the PCB as a Domestic Cricket Mentor, where he was tasked with mentoring young players and building regional teams such as the Stallions. His work was central to closing the gap between natural ability and professional standard. He wasn’t only mentoring players for their game, he was teaching them discipline, confidence, and teamwork.

The Announcement that Shook the Cricketing Circle

On his official social media handles, Shoaib Malik spoke directly to his “Dear Pakistan Cricket Family” through a heartfelt letter. In that, he dropped a bomb that he had also apprised the PCB himself two weeks earlier about his plan to resign. His resignation wasn’t sudden but was well-prepared to guarantee a smooth switch.

A post shared by Shoaib Malik (@realshoaibmalik)

The caption stated: “Thankful to PCB for the experience but it’s time to move on from my position as a Mentor.” That single sentence encapsulated a carefully considered goodbye.

Why did Shoaib Malik Resign?

Malik said that the main motivation to resign was the growing difficulty in juggling various responsibilities. With obligations on both a personal and professional front, staying put as a mentor would have translated into compromising quality, a decision he wasn’t keen on making.

His choice displays professionalism and honesty. Instead of thinning himself out, he decided to take a dignified exit, so as not to compromise on either the players or the institution.

Gratitude in His Exit

One aspect that stood out in Malik’s farewell letter was his genuine appreciation. He expressed gratitude to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the executive staff, his former teammate Wahab Riaz, and the coaching staff. Above all, he thanked the players who had faith in his advice.

His farewell was not so much about departure as it was about paying respect to the time he spent with the team.

PCB’s Response and Implications

Even though the PCB has not yet released a detailed statement, Malik’s well-planned departure provides them with sufficient time to identify a good replacement. The board is now confronted with the task of filling the mentorship vacuum left by such an experienced individual. It’s a chance for PCB to reevaluate its strategy and maybe redefine the mentorship model entirely.

Shoaib Malik’s Future Plans

Even though he’s leaving his official position, Shoaib Malik was adamant that he’s still dedicated to Pakistan cricket. Whether as a commentator, franchise consultant, or cricket analyst, we haven’t seen the last of him yet. His love for the game still burns bright.

The Legacy Shoaib Leaves Behind

As a mentor, Shoaib Malik might have been there for a brief period, but his influence ran deep. He imparted a lot of knowledge, discipline, and humility to the position. He taught players to not only learn about cricket, but also about conducting themselves with dignity and professionalism.

Final Thoughts

Shoaib Malik’s departure from the mentorship position closes one chapter and opens another. He departs with his head held high and a message of thanks. His decision is an indication of maturity, respect for the game, and a need to contribute to cricket in a manner that suits his changing journey. And though he might no longer be in the dugout, his legacy will still have an impact on the cricketing minds he shaped.

Hina Rabbani Khar and Shehzad Ghias take on Ranveer Allahbadia and Barkha Dutt on the Piers Morgan Show

Hina Rabbani Khar and Shehzad Ghias take on Ranveer Allahbadia and Barkha Dutt on the Piers Morgan Show
Hina Rabbani Khar and Shehzad Ghias take on Ranveer Allahbadia and Barkha Dutt on the Piers Morgan Show

A journalist so unprofessional and full of theatre that a reputable foreign minister couldn’t even stand her. This is, unfortunately, the professionalism of India, and the latest Piers Morgan show proved it. Indian representatives can neither take accountability nor show respect to the opposing parties in a discussion room.

An Egyptian host, Bassem Yousuf, once said on the same Piers Morgan show that “discussion cannot be carried out in a room that has no space for disagreement.” Ironically, the journalist (apparently a reputable one), Barkha Dutt, seems to be one proving it right. Freedom of speech and the right to give a “counter argument” out the window as per convenience?

Anyway, despite the theatrics and the constant “shouting” and “yelling” like Indians do on their own television, there is no doubt that both our representatives — Hina Rabbani Khar (poised former Foreign Minister of Pakistan) and Shehzad Ghias Shaikh (razor sharp writer and host of ‘The Pakistan Experience’) left no stone unturned in exposing the hypocrisy and hollow narratives peddled by India’s self proclaimed duo — Ranveer Allahbadia and Barkha Dutt (whose presence underscored the contrast between rhetoric and reason).

Hina Khar on Uncensored: Piers Morgan’s Act of Neutrality

From the moment the conversation veered into politics, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a polite tea party. It was a clash of intellectual depth versus performative nationalism and it seemed like Piers Morgan decided that he would allow his bias to prevail over credibility and his journalistic duties.

Since the start of the interview, Hina Khar remained true to her values and representation and professionally dismantled India’s sanitised narrative on Kashmir with a stateswoman’s precision. This was interrupted constantly by Barkha Dutt, who seems to be stuck on one question: “Are Lashkar-e-taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist groups who have the freedom to exist in Pakistan?” Hina countered her claim and rebuffed her statement but seemed like Barkha only sought the answer that has been fed to her by her Fascist government.

The Jaffer Express Silence

What’s ironic here is that, when Hina Khar mentioned Jaffar Express and the terrorist killing that took place in Pakistan, the host Piers Morgan seemed to cut her off claiming that it’s “off topic.” Maybe to the host Pakistani lives lost and Hindus dying is not equal and must not be mentioned. Or maybe he already picked sides and decided pre hand which side has “sacrificial lambs” and which side has “innocents.”

Despite the bias prevailing openly, Hina stayed composed and took part in the debate in accordance to ethics. When the topic shifted to Kashmir, Khar offered a clear, historically grounded explanation of Pakistan’s position.

She firmly countered the Indian narrative that dismisses international concerns about Kashmir as “internal matters,” citing global human rights reports and the alarming curtailment of freedoms. Her arguments weren’t confrontational or well “deflective” — they were grounded, diplomatic, and frankly, difficult to refute. The silence on the mention of Modi’s ban and murder of Gujarat being on his hands, showcased it.

Shehzad Ghias: Comedy as a Weapon of Truth

Then came Shehzad Ghias, Pakistan’s unfiltered voice of youth. While Ranveer fumbled with moral equivalencies and polished yet hollow rhetoric, Ghias eviscerated the Indian establishment with biting humour and unrelenting honesty. He called out India’s jingoism, the silencing of critics and the dangerous Hindutva nationalism that even Dutt was a victim of at one point (Barkha Dutt has a history of running away from “BJP Mob” herself).

India-Pakistan Debate With Shehzad Ghias & Hina Khar
India-Pakistan Debate With Shehzad Ghias & Hina Khar

“Nothing has gone down faster than Rafael except Barkha Dutt’s credibility,” Ghias declared. The expression on Barkha Dutt’s face at this point proved that it hit a nerve. Ghias also sarcastically pointed out how Ranveer Allahbadia himself was jailed due to a humourous statement and yet he portrays that same government as saints. Shehzad’s dialogues and political humour was commendable and was the exact dose that these “respectful” representatives needed.

A Win for Honest Discourse

This was more than a panel discussion. It was a much-needed correction in the global media narrative that often defaults to India’s PR machinery. For once, Pakistani voices weren’t filtered through Western or Indian lenses — they spoke for themselves, with strength, dignity and clarity.

If this episode showed anything, it’s that Pakistan has intelligent, reasoned voices capable of challenging dominant narratives despite the double standard and bias prevailing on global stage. Perhaps next time the world can get actual professionals and not some howling lady and recently jailed comedian to counter national representatives. Genocide apologists won’t do no good unless of course the goal is to just capitalise on views and not solve the conflict at hand.

Modi Claims India has only ‘Paused’ Military Action Post India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement

Modi Claims India has only ‘Paused’ Military Action Post India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement
Modi Claims India has only ‘Paused’ Military Action Post India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement

In a recent statement, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India has only “paused” its military action against Pakistan. This statement came after the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement, which was widely celebrated by both nations. However, Modi’s remarks indicate that the pause is temporary, and India could resume military operations if provoked.

The India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement

The ceasefire treaty was signed in May 2025 after weeks of increased tensions along the Line of Control (LoC). The two nations committed to stopping military strikes under the deal. Modi’s statement, however, indicates that the ceasefire is not absolute and that India will resume the strikes if Pakistan is found to be supporting terrorism. Yes, the age-old narrative of blaming Pakistan for terrorism continues!

Modi’s Statement

Modi asserted that India had merely suspended its military operations, not given them up. He threatened that India would strike back if Pakistan continued to sponsor terrorism. The Indian Prime Minister dismissed Pakistan’s nuclear blackmail. He asserted that any future talks with Pakistan would be on terrorism and the return of Pakistan-held Kashmir alone. He asserted, “Terror and talks cannot go together.”

Pakistan’s Response

Pakistan greeted the ceasefire accord but kept its guard up. Pakistani authorities were hopeful that this would usher in an end to the Kashmir conflict. Yet Pakistan insists that India has to shift its approach towards Kashmir if there is to be any peace that will last. Both countries recognise that while the ceasefire is positive, many problems remain unresolved.

International Reactions

The global community generally viewed the ceasefire as a move toward easing tensions. The United States proposed to broker a permanent solution to the Kashmir conflict. India turned down third-party mediation, reiterating the fact that Kashmir is a domestic issue. Pakistan viewed international mediation favourably in the hope of obtaining an equitable end to the strife.

The Future of India-Pakistan Relations

Although the ceasefire has temporarily eased tensions, experts caution that it will not be sustainable. The fundamental issues, including the Kashmir conflict and cross-border terrorism, have not been addressed. Without sustainable solutions, the region is still susceptible to further conflict. The global community will continue to be involved in pressuring both sides to resolve their differences peacefully.

After all, India’s statement that it has merely “paused” military action underscores the tenuousness of the ceasefire. Although the accord may provide short-term comfort, true peace will depend on both nations reconciling their long-standing issues. Only through continuous dialogue and commitment can India and Pakistan aspire to prevent more violence.

Samsung Launches Slimmest Phone, Rivals Apple

Samsung Launches Slimmest Phone, Rivals Apple

Samsung has launched its thinnest flagship smartphone to date, the Galaxy S25 Edge, breaking new ground in smartphone design. The extremely thin phone is set to directly challenge Apple’s expected launch of a thinner iPhone later this year. With the battle between Samsung and Apple still driving the smartphone market, the S25 Edge hopes to outdo Apple with its slim design, high performance, and innovative technology.

A Long-Running Feud

The Samsung-Apple feud has been one of the most characteristic elements of the smartphone market for well over a decade. Both parties have made it their mission to innovate and experiment, each new release trying to trump the other.

From Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup to Apple’s iPhone, both companies have paved the way for intense competition. Apple’s own design philosophy has consistently favoured slimness and top-end materials, whereas Samsung has been a master of big and dynamic screens along with creative innovations. Samsung has again aimed to surpass Apple through the Galaxy S25 Edge as it released its thinnest flagship ever in its line history, something with which Apple also seems to be concerned amid buzz about an incredibly thin iPhone redesign.

Design and Build

The Galaxy S25 Edge is simply 5.8mm in thickness, but it remains the thinnest in the series of Galaxy S models in the Samsung Galaxy series lineup. Regardless of the low profile, however, the smartphone still has the premium look, weighing a light 163 grams. The handset has a screen size of 6.7 inches, sporting an LTPO AMOLED 2X display at 1440 x 3120 pixels for impressive colours and smoothened visuals. Its screen is tempered with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, making the phone even tougher while being lighter.

Performance and AI Integration

Gigging on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, the Galaxy S25 Edge comes with the best performance. The device comes with 12GB of RAM and a 256GB and 512GB storage option, depending on different user needs. Samsung has integrated high-end AI features, such as real-time multimodal camera and voice interaction, where users can talk to the device directly.

Camera System

Galaxy S25 Edge has a dual-lens camera system on the rear that includes a 200MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. This arrangement allows users to take high-definition images with great detail and clarity. The front camera is a 10MP sensor, ideal for quality selfies and video calls.

Battery and Charging

Despite the thin build, the Galaxy S25 Edge contains a 3900mAh battery, offering sufficient power for day-to-day activities. The smartphone features wired charging of 25W, enabling fast recharges to maintain the users’ constant connectivity throughout the day.

Market Positioning and Availability

Priced at $1,099, the Galaxy S25 Edge will be marketed as a high-end phone for customers looking for a balance of performance and compact size. The phone will be on sale in Titanium Silver, Titanium Icy Blue, and Titanium Jet Black hues. It will debut in South Korea on May 23 and in the United States on May 30, with distribution planned in about 30 countries, including markets in Asia and Europe.

It’s clear that with its slim build and high-end features, Samsung again demonstrates that it is poised to take the industry by storm and break new ground in smartphone technology. Let’s see what Apple has in store for us.

Mike Hesson Joins Pakistan Cricket Team as White-Ball Coach

mike-hesson-joins-pakistan-as-white-ball-coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Mike Hesson as the head coach of the Pakistan men’s white-ball team. Yes, the same Hesson, who helped turn New Zealand into a world-class white-ball force.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that after going through a pool of applications, the board had found their man.

“After evaluation of numerous applications received against the vacancy, I’m pleased to announce that former New Zealand cricketer and renowned coach, Mike Hesson, will join us as the new Whiteball Head Coach for the Pakistan National Team, effective May 26th,” Naqvi wrote.

Who is Mike Hesson?

If you’ve followed cricket over the past decade, Hesson’s name should ring a bell. He’s the man behind New Zealand’s rise in the 2010s — not just tactically sharp, but a calm presence who knew how to bring the best out of big-match players.

Under Mike Hesson, the Kiwis made it to the 2015 World Cup final, transformed their mindset, and earned a reputation for playing smart, fearless cricket.

More recently, he’s been serving as the head coach of Islamabad United, the defending PSL champions. So yes, he’s no stranger to Pakistan cricket either — a big plus.

Why the Appointment Makes Sense

Let’s be honest — Pakistan’s white-ball performance lately has been… patchy. Talented? Always. Consistent? Not so much.

With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the team needs structure, calm heads, and someone who understands modern white-ball dynamics. Hesson checks all those boxes.

Hesson is currently focused on Islamabad United’s PSL 10 campaign, which resumes from May 17. The final is scheduled to be played on May 25. So, he’ll officially take over as Pakistan’s white-ball head coach on May 26.

It’s also worth noting that the position became vacant after Aqib Javed’s interim stint ended following Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand last month.

AI Tools Like ChatGPT May Harm Your Work Reputation, Study Finds

AI Tools Like ChatGPT May Harm Your Work Reputation Study Finds
AI Tools Like ChatGPT May Harm Your Work Reputation, Study Finds

A new study from Duke University cautions that applying AI in the workplace—such as Chatgpt, Claude, or Gemini—can quietly harm your reputation. Even if AI increases productivity, colleagues and managers tend to view users as lazy, less competent, and less self-sufficient.

Released in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), the Jessica Reif, Richard Larrick, and Jack Soll study involved more than 4,400 respondents. It reported a definite “social evaluation penalty” associated with AI use.

“Even if AI can be used to make people more productive, its usage has social costs,” the researchers stated.

Read more: Chatgpt Went Down – The Internet Freaked Out

In one experiment, individuals who fantasised about using AI thought others would criticise them more. In another, assessors rated AI users as less employable and more dispensable—particularly when the assessor did not use AI. This bias manifests in every age, function, and gender.

Managers who were not AI-savvy were less likely to hire applicants who used AI. But if a profession specially needed AI, the adverse effect dissipated—asserting that context is everything.

Surprisingly, heavy users of AI were less critical of others, implying that familiarity breeds contempt. Nonetheless, most workers keep their AI use a secret and have earned the label “secret cyborgs,” a nickname coined by Wharton professor Ethan Mollick.

The research reveals a difficult trade-off: AI makes you do your job better, but may lead others to view you worse.

Shahid Afridi Pays Tribute To Virat Kohli After Test Retirement

shahid-afridi-praises-virat-kohli-willingness-to-visit-pakistan

There are some goodbyes that hit harder than others. And when Virat Kohli, the heartbeat of Indian Test cricket for over a decade, announced his retirement from the red-ball format, fans, players, and rivals alike felt the weight of the moment.

After 123 Tests, 9,230 runs, and 30 centuries, Kohli has decided to call time on his unforgettable Test journey. And as you’d expect, the cricketing world is pausing to salute the man who redefined passion in whites.

One of the most touching messages came from an unexpected yet familiar name — Shahid Afridi. The former Pakistan skipper, known for his aggressive brand of cricket and occasional fiery takes, dropped all rivalry to shower Kohli with praise.

Read More: End of an Era: Virat Kohli Bids an Emotional Goodbye to Test cricket

“Congratulations on a remarkable career, Virat Kohli. Your passion, intensity and professionalism set new standards in Test cricket. The purist format will miss your presence and competitive spirit,” Afridi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

And he’s not wrong. Whether you cheered for him or against him, there was never a dull moment when Kohli was in the middle — eyes blazing, heart on sleeve, chasing excellence like it owed him something.

A Legacy Etched in Red

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the numbers: 123 Tests, 9,230 runs, 30 tons, and a staggering average of over 48.

But numbers alone don’t do justice to Kohli’s Test career. His real impact? The revival of intensity and fitness culture, the aggression overseas, and the belief that India could win anywhere, not just at home.

As captain, Kohli led India in 68 Tests, winning 40 of them — a record for any Indian skipper. He didn’t just play; he changed the way Indian cricket approached the longest format.

Test Cricket ‘Shaped’ Virat Kohli

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Virat Kohli shared what Test cricket meant to him. And it wasn’t just another format — it was his classroom, his battlefield, and his greatest teacher.

“It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life.”

That raw emotion? That’s vintage Kohli. Never afraid to feel, never afraid to express.
The Sunset of a Generation?

Kohli’s retirement comes right after Rohit Sharma stepped away from Test cricket too, signalling the end of a golden chapter for Indian cricket.

With both giants moving on, the baton now passes to a younger generation — talented, yes, but untested in the harsh grind of red-ball cricket.

The PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced the much-awaited news — the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 is back on track, and the remaining matches are set to resume on May 17!

It’s been a rollercoaster for PSL 10. Just last week, an Indian drone strike at Rawalpindi Stadium sent shockwaves across the cricketing world.

In response, the PCB swiftly shifted the tournament to the UAE. But then came another twist — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to suspend the league altogether due to escalating regional tensions.

Fans were left in limbo, players were on standby, and the PSL caravan stood still. But as they say, the show must go on — and it finally will, starting May 17, with the grand finale set for May 25.

Naqvi’s Rallying Cry: “Let the Aura Take Over”

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Mohsin Naqvi reignited the flame of PSL spirit and announced the window for the remaining games of the PSL 10.

“HBL PSL X picks up from where it left off! 6 teams, 0 fear,” Naqvi posted. “Let the aura take over as we unite and celebrate the spirit of cricket.”

“Get ready for 8 thrilling matches starting 17th May, leading up to the Grand Final on 25th May. Best of luck to all the teams.”

Now that’s what we call a call to arms.

And let’s be honest — after everything the league has endured, this final stretch isn’t just about cricket. It’s about resilience, unity, and the love of the game.

The Table So Far: Tight Race to the Finish

With 27 matches already in the books, the playoff race is heating up. Here’s where things stand:

  • Quetta Gladiators
✅ Already through to the playoffs
    📊 6 wins | 2 losses | 1 no-result (13 points)
The Gladiators have been clinical. They’re not just winning — they’re dominating.
  • Karachi Kings
    📊 5 wins | 3 losses (10 points)
They’ve got momentum and a deep squad. Just one more win could seal their playoff spot.
  • Islamabad United
    📊 5 wins | 4 losses (10 points)
As defending champions, they’ve had their ups and downs but remain in the hunt.
  • Lahore Qalandars
    📊 4 wins | 4 losses | 1 no-result (9 points)
Inconsistency has hurt them, but they’re still very much in the race.
  • Peshawar Zalmi
    📊 4 wins | 5 losses (8 points)
They’ll need a flawless finish and a bit of luck to sneak into the playoffs.
  • Multan Sultans
    📉 1 win | 8 losses
Eliminated. A forgettable campaign for the 2021 champions.

Understanding and Addressing India’s Online Hate Ecosystem

Understanding and Addressing India’s Online Hate Ecosystem
Understanding and Addressing India’s Online Hate Ecosystem

In the past few days, something very disturbing has surfaced amidst the ongoing Pak-India tensions. The digital landscape has witnessed an alarming escalation in India’s online hate rhetoric and coordinated online harassment from Indians. Why? Just pure radical fascism.

Social media was once a platform for free expression, but India’s democratic discourse has increasingly morphed it into a space of bigotry and misinformation.

An Online Havoc

Pakistani influencers and online users (many of them women) have been doxxed, threatened with rape and murder, and subjected to relentless abuse in the past few days. All of this has happened simply for voicing an opinion or posting content for their country. Some were told they “deserved” violence. Others were told their entire cities would be “wiped off the map.”

This rise in online hate campaigns, threats to influencers and even incendiary remarks from prominent public figures signals a deeper rot in the country’s socio-political fabric.

The Current Surge: A Disturbing Trend

This isn’t random. It’s systemic. What makes this ecosystem so dangerous is that it’s not spontaneous; it’s strategic. These online trolls are backed, directly or indirectly, by individuals with massive influence, like celebrities, politicians and media personalities. These are the people who either incite or stay conveniently silent when their followers launch attacks. When leaders make subtle threats, when individuals use slurs on livestreams, and when bureaucrats like, share, or amplify hate speech, they are not just participating; they are signalling.

This isn’t “free speech.” It’s weaponised speech. And it’s cowardly.

The Current Surge: A Disturbing Trend
The Current Surge: A Disturbing Trend

When Power Fuels Hate

One of the most concerning aspects of India’s online hate ecosystem is the role played by those in positions of power. Political leaders have made veiled or overt threats against Pakistan and its citizens, almost dehumanising them and referring to them as mere “pigs”. When elected representatives or well-known personalities make inflammatory statements on public platforms, it legitimises hate speech and normalises violence.

This normalisation is reinforced by the inaction or selective action of law enforcement and platform moderators.

Social media platforms, despite having millions of Indian users, have consistently failed to act with the urgency or seriousness the situation demands. Reports get ignored. Threats stay up for days. Hate spreads faster than facts. Their so-called “community standards” have proven to be little more than PR statements when the real test comes.

Meanwhile, India’s legal machinery either drags its feet or selectively enforces the law depending on the political leanings of the person being targeted—or the one doing the targeting.

Let’s not kid ourselves. If the state wanted to crack down on digital hate, it could. It chooses not to.

If a politician publicly threatens a community, they should be disqualified. If a celebrity spreads hate, their endorsements should be pulled. If a bureaucrat fans violence, they should be removed from service. If a platform hosts abuse and refuses to act, it should be held legally and financially responsible.

Consequences in the Real World

The online hate ecosystem doesn’t operate in isolation; it spills over into the real world. Lynchings, mob violence, communal riots, and targeted assassinations have all found roots in digital provocations. The psychological toll on individuals targeted by online abuse is immense, with many facing anxiety, depression and in extreme cases, suicidal thoughts.

The threat is not just to individuals but to the democratic ideals of debate, dissent, and diversity. When fear dictates speech, democracy weakens.

Tackling this complex issue requires a multi-pronged approach:

  1. Stronger Regulation and Accountability: Social media platforms must be held to higher standards of content moderation, especially in high-risk regions like India. Government regulation should focus on protecting free speech while cracking down on incitement to violence and targeted harassment.
  2. Legal Reforms: India’s cyber laws need urgent updates to address the evolving nature of digital hate. Swift, transparent investigations and deterrent punishments are essential to curb abuse.
  3. Political Responsibility: Leaders and celebrities must be held accountable for their words. Political parties need to draw red lines on the use of hate for electoral gains.
  4. Civil Society and Media Vigilance: NGOs, fact-checkers, and responsible media must continue to expose coordinated hate campaigns and provide platforms for marginalised voices.
  5. Digital Literacy and Public Awareness: Educating users—especially the youth—about the consequences of online hate and the value of pluralism can foster more responsible digital citizenship.

Time to Act Before it’s Too Late

A Syrian writer once said, “Pakistan is the last line of defense against imperialist Hindutva ideology,” and the events of the last few days have proved it right.

This time, Pakistan succeeded in defending its people, but that doesn’t mean that the disturbing ideology of India’s masses should be ignored. We are safe today, but some Muslims in Gujarat or Bihar are probably paying the price for it as we speak.

We can no longer afford to watch from the sidelines. We need laws with teeth, platforms with principles, and leaders with spines. Until then, the hate will keep spreading—because we let it.

Chinese PL-15 Missile Used in Combat for the First Time During Pakistan India Conflict

Chinese PL-15 Missile Used in Combat for the First Time During Pakistan-India Conflict
Chinese PL-15 Missile Used in Combat for the First Time During Pakistan-India Conflict

In a recent military clash, Pakistan and India nearly went to war, with Pakistan shooting down Indian Rafale fighter jets—marking the first combat use of China’s PL-15 missiles. Unlike previous conflicts, Pakistan did not use any US-supplied weapons, highlighting a clear shift in both regional power balance and global military alignment.

Experts believe the Chinese-supplied PL-15 air-to-air missile gave Pakistan an edge. Images from the scene show missile parts with serial numbers and a seeker head using AESA radar. Built by AVIC, the PL-15 can strike targets over 200 km away. Its export version, the PL-15E—used by Pakistan’s JF-17 Block III and J-10CE jets—has a 145 km range. Around 70 Pakistani aircraft can deploy it.

Read more: China Rushes PL-15 Missile to Pakistan Amid Rising India Tensions: Hint at Escalation?

The missile includes inertial navigation, Beidou satellite guidance, a two-way datalink, and AESA radar terminal homing. It travels at speeds over Mach 5 and carries a 20–25 kg high-explosive warhead. Some reports claim the missiles came directly from China’s People’s Liberation Army, though this remains unconfirmed.

Strategic and Global Impact

India fields Rafales with Meteor missiles, Su-30MKIs with R-77s, and S-400 defence systems. However, the PL-15’s longer range allows Pakistani fighters to strike from beyond India’s engagement range. Pakistan confirmed using J-10C fighters to down Indian jets but did not disclose the munitions. Two U.S. officials told Reuters that a Chinese-built Pakistani jet shot down at least two Indian aircraft. A French intelligence source also told CNN that one Rafale had been downed. Neither Pakistan nor China has commented publicly on the missile’s use.

China is now using the event to promote the PL-15E’s export value. While the French Meteor is favoured for its no-escape zone and ramjet propulsion, the PL-15’s range and first-strike capability offer a clear operational edge.

India Faces Growing Diplomatic Isolation Following the Pahalgam Attack Narrative

India Faces Growing Diplomatic Isolation Following the Pahalgam Attack Narrative
India Faces Growing Diplomatic Isolation Following the Pahalgam Attack Narrative

India’s aspirations as a superpower are shattering as the region faces diplomatic isolation. The third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been punctuated by an increase in local extremism, the rise of Hindutva extremism, sinking regional relationships, and foreign policy characterised by aggressive confrontation instead of cooperation. Consequence: growing diplomatic isolation.

This decline has become evident after the recent aggression displayed by the Indian government and its forces following the Pahalgam attack. Acting on Prime Minister Modi’s orders, the Indian forces launched an attack on Pakistan during the night, resulting in the deaths of innocent civilians, including a child. This prompted widespread outrage in Pakistan and among the international community. Major global powers have rejected India’s narrative of aggression.

This recent aggression and rejection, however, did not just start. Modi’s moves over the years, be they political or religious, have sparked debate previously.

Hindutva and the Marginalisation of Minorities

Modi’s ascent began in Gujarat, where the 2002 anti-Muslim riots left a deep scar. His silence, being the Chief Minister of the state, during and after the violence, set the tone for his leadership. Under his rule, India has embraced Hindutva—an ideology that seeks to redefine India as a Hindu nation and consider minorities as second-class citizens.

Legislation such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and general violence in the name of “cow protection” have attracted global criticism. Muslim political representation has fallen drastically, and events such as the Delhi riots and the Babri Masjid judgment have only added to the discontent.

Regional Tensions Rise

India’s relations with neighbouring countries deteriorated. There was an undeclared blockade against Nepal and interference in Sri Lanka’s Tamil affairs, which elicited regional resentment. In the Maldives, there was a growing “India Out” movement. Even in Bangladesh, India’s long-time ally, anti-India feelings increased, particularly among the citizens and media.

The relationship with Pakistan bottomed out following the Uri and Pulwama attacks, and things have escalated after the recent Pahalgam attack and what followed.

China and the Global Stage

India’s relations with China continue to be strained. The fatal 2020 Galwan skirmish led to economic retribution by New Delhi, such as Chinese app bans and investment restrictions. At the same time, China consolidated its relationship with Pakistan via the CPEC—a project India actively resists.

India’s indecisive position on the conflict in Ukraine has also isolated Western allies, while Russia increasingly turns to China.

International Reputation at Risk

The murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, reportedly with the help of Indian agents, stunned the international community. Relations with Canada were strained, and India’s reputation as a responsible international player was tarnished.

A Nation at Odds with Itself

India’s dream of becoming a world leader now conflicts with its domestic policies and regional actions. Modi’s style—based on nationalism and confrontation—has isolated India from its neighbours and tested old friendships. The world observes, questioning the direction India is heading.

Hamas Agrees to Release Final US-Israeli Hostage: Is a Ceasefire on the Horizon?

The war between Israel and Hamas has brought immense suffering to Gaza over the past year, with the lives of thousands lost and numerous families broken. But there could now be a tiny but significant step towards peace. Hamas has agreed to release the final US-Israeli hostage being held in Gaza, hoping that a ceasefire could be achieved in exchange.

Edan Alexander, Hostage Released

Edan Alexander, the hostage, was raised in the United States and was removed from his military base during the alleged attack on October 7, 2023. Hamas claimed in a statement on Sunday that it was prepared to “immediately begin intensive negotiations” that would lead to Gaza’s independence and maybe result in a deal to halt the war.

According to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the United States informed Israel on Sunday that negotiations for the release of further prisoners will follow Hamas’s release of Alexander. However, Israel’s stance is unchanged: it wishes to hold talks under fire while maintaining a commitment to accomplishing all war goals.

Is a Ceasefire Close?

The release of the hostages has ignited fresh discussions of an impending ceasefire. Egypt and Qatar are currently labouring tirelessly to coax both sides into agreement. U.S. officials have indicated they think this is a “key moment” and are calling on Israel to exercise restraint in response.

Earlier on Sunday, two Hamas officials told the AFP news agency that talks were ongoing in the Qatari capital of Doha with the US and reported “progress” had been made.

Hamas has also expressed interest in a short-term ceasefire, but only when Israel ceases military attacks on Gaza. The Israeli government, however, has firmly stated that it would like to continue operations until they are certain that all threats from Hamas have been eliminated.

Global Reactions

The international community is watching the situation closely. As early as 2024, the United Nations called for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further civilian casualties. The release of Alexander marks a significant step toward the possibility of such a ceasefire. World leaders have widely welcomed the move and are urging both parties to build on this momentum by continuing negotiations.

What Happens Next?

The future remains undecided. Although the release of the last US-Israeli hostage is a good sign, fundamental distrust continues. Nevertheless, for a lot of individuals in Gaza, this little gesture is a hope after a lot of suffering.

A Brief Look at Pakistan’s Hero: Aurangzeb Ahmed PAF

A Brief Look at Pakistan’s Hero: Aurangzeb Ahmed PAF
A Brief Look at Pakistan’s Hero: Aurangzeb Ahmed PAF

Aurangzeb Ahmed PAF AVM, or may I say (AURA)ngzeb. Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Aurangzeb Ahmed of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has aura in his name and charisma in his body language. By this time, all of Pakistan has recognised this national hero due to his professionalism in the air and on the ground. Still oblivious to the name? Tragic.

He was the man who led the air operation in Bunyan Al Marsous (the official military operation in response to India’s aggression and “operation Sindoor”) and kept our heads high. It was under his operational excellence that the Pakistan Air Force was able to down the “ghost of the sky,” A Rafael.

A Distinguished Career in Service

Commissioned into the General Duties (Pilot) branch of the PAF in December 1992, AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed has dedicated over three decades to the defence of Pakistan. His illustrious career includes commanding both a fighter squadron and an operational air base. He has also served as the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Operational Requirements & Development) at Air Headquarters in Islamabad.

His academic credentials are equally impressive. The AVM holds a master’s degrees in Military Arts from China and in National Security & War Studies from the National Defence University in Islamabad. His international experience includes serving in Saudi Arabia as the Contingent Commander of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex team. In recognition of his exemplary service, he has also been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Leadership Amidst Conflict

During the recent escalation with India, AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed, as the Director General Public Relations (DGPR) of the PAF, played a pivotal role in communicating the Air Force’s stance and actions to the nation. His clear and confident briefings provided reassurance to the public and reinforced the PAF’s commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty.

In a joint press conference with Pakistan Army spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, senior Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officer Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb declared that PAF had achieved a decisive 6-0 victory (mic drop!) over the Indian Air Force during the recent conflict. “I will pick up from where I left off, the day before yesterday. PAF v/s IAF : 6 and Null,” said the national hero sarcastically.

Expressing gratitude to Allah, Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb praised the performance of the PAF in responding effectively to Indian aggression. He described the strategy employed, which focused on inflicting maximum damage on the enemy, noting the high stakes of the “if you don’t shoot, you get shot” environment during the battle. Ahmed also assured that the PAF has successfully jammed enemy drones, disrupted their data transmission by applying both soft and hard kill techniques.

He also emphasised that the “hard kill” approach was only used in areas where civilians were present to minimise collateral damage. This allowed the world to understand Pakistan’s stance on killing innocents and how, even in the state of war, the armed forces and air forces refuse to target them. On the other hand, the enemy nation started the war by targeting a child and hailed it with pride. Seems like the “two-nation theory” wasn’t wrong.

The Man Who Is Not Afraid to Call Out Cowards

The AVM also called out IAF for employing unmanned aircraft in civilian areas while PAF only sent manned aircraft to air bases and critical military areas. This showed who had the guts and who didn’t. He also praised JF-17 and Rafael for their potential as well as competency. “Rafael is a very potent aircraft if employed well,” said Aurangzeb Ahmed, while emphasising the importance of training and leadership that propels success with such advanced aircraft.

Concluding the briefing, Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb confirmed that PAF brought down six Indian aircraft while sustaining zero losses, affirming that all Pakistani jets remained safe and operational throughout the engagement. His articulate representation during this period not only informed the nation but also bolstered public morale, showcasing the professionalism and readiness of the PAF under his guidance.

The Man Who Is Not Afraid To Call Out Cowards
The Man Who Is Not Afraid To Call Out Cowards

The Nation’s Pride

AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed’s composed demeanour and transparent communication have resonated deeply with the Pakistani public. In an era where misinformation can spread rapidly, his factual and steady updates have been a source of truth and confidence.

The AVM didn’t hesitate in praising the IAF when there was a need and called them as equal professionals who are just performing their duty through the statement “My job is to defend my country, his job is to defend his and perform his duties.” This was very wise as it was an indirect response to the Indian forces’ statement, “Our job is to fire and their job is to collect bodies.” It helped separate the morale of both countries and the composure that the armed forces have on both sides of the border.

As Pakistan navigates through challenging times, figures like AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed remind us of the strength and resilience inherent in our armed forces. In AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed, Pakistan finds not just a military leader but a national hero whose service and leadership continue to inspire and unite the nation.

Lastly, the strategic and calculated responses serves us as a reminder of how important it is to not let anger get the best of us, especially in a state of war. Escalation management is very important as the Vice Marshal said, “Sanity must prevail, at least one side should practice it”.

The Vatican has revealed Pope Leo XIV’s first official portrait.

The Vatican has posted the first formal picture of Pope Leo XIV shortly after his election. The new pope, 69-year-old Robert Francis Prevost, at the time of his election, from Chicago, can be found wearing the papal regalia. He appears in the traditional red mozzetta, stole, rochet, and pectoral cross, as distinct from the dressier style that his predecessor, Pope Francis, wore. Pope Leo XIV’s signature also makes a return for the classical “P.P.” (Pastor Pastorum) label, one that fell into disuse with Francis.

The recently discovered coat of arms of Pope Leo XIV is extremely significant. There is a blue field featuring a fleur-de-lis on one side, representing the Holy Trinity as well as the Virgin Mary. There is an open book under a burning Sacred Heart in a closed cover on the other side, which is referring to St. Augustine’s dramatic conversion and to the Augustinian legacy of Pope Leo XIV.

Is Trump the Solution to Unblocking Kashmir Deadlock?

Is Trump the Solution to Unblocking Kashmir Deadlock?
“President Donald J. Trump for Time Magazine in 2019” by Pari Dukovic, inkjet print, June 17, 2019 (printed 2020). National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution. Copyright 2019 Pari Dukovic. President Donald J. Trump for Time Magazine in 2019

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has once again placed himself at the forefront of an international crisis—this time, India-Pakistan’s Kashmir conflict. During a recent press conference, Trump stated he would be “honoured” to mediate the conflict and asserted that the two countries have approached him. His remarks have brought about diverse responses. Trump’s experience and confident style might be able to crack the deadlock, some opine. Others think that his involvement may compound the issue.

The History of the Kashmir Conflict

Kashmir has been a contentious region since 1947, when India and Pakistan gained independence. Both nations claim the region, and they’ve engaged in several wars over it. The conflict has resulted in violence, fatalities, and tension that frequently undermines peace in South Asia. In the last few years, India abolished Article 370, which accorded special status to Kashmir. Pakistan was firmly against this decision. Ever since, the relations between the two countries have been strained.

What Did Trump Say?

During his conference, Trump declared, “I have good relationships with both Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Sharif. I think I could help make peace happen.” He further added that the U.S. could assist a third party if both parties agree. Surprisingly, he spoke of backchannel talks between Indian and Pakistani officials, although neither government confirmed this.

Can the U.S. Really Help?

India has always insisted that Kashmir is an internal issue and has shunned the interference of third parties. Pakistan, however, has frequently invited foreign intervention. This makes it challenging for anyone, even Trump, to play a mediating role.

Nevertheless, Trump’s brazen brand of diplomacy may just usher in some new options. He’s famous for sitting down with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un when least anticipated. Could he do the same here?

Final Thoughts

Although Trump’s proposal may not bring instant returns to the Kashmir deadlock, it has pushed Kashmir back into the international conversation. That, in itself, is a big thing. At the least, his remarks might push the two nations to consider peace more seriously. But for now, Trump is more wild card than a certain cure.
