Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos Invest $537M in Africa’s Rare Metals

Billionaires Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos have invested a staggering $537 million into Africa’s rare metals sector via the US mining startup KoBold Metals. The move highlights the global race for critical resources like lithium, cobalt, platinum and copper, vital for electric vehicles, renewable energy, and advanced technologies.

KoBold Metals, which gained attention last year for its major copper discovery in Zambia, is now positioning itself as a key player in reshaping the global mineral supply chain. The company’s efforts not only aim to reduce reliance on China’s dominance in rare earth elements but also promise to bolster Africa’s role in the global market.

The investment will drive exploration, enhance research, and develop high-potential projects, creating opportunities for African nations. These initiatives are expected to generate significant revenue, contributing to socio-economic growth and poverty reduction goals.

As demand for rare metals skyrockets, Africa’s rich reserves position it as a crucial player in emerging technologies, with nations like Zambia poised to lead the way. This strategic investment could redefine the future of the rare metals industry while empowering African economies.

Decemberistan – Winter is Optional, Weddings Aren’t

Shadi Season - Decemberistan

Over the past few years, the term Decemberistan has become a cultural zeitgeist in Pakistan, weaving its way through Instagram captions, YouTube vlogs and magazine spreads. It’s not just a word; it’s a phenomenon. So, what exactly is this mystical Decemberistan?

In essence, Decemberistan captures the chaotic charm of Pakistan in winter—when the air is crisp (and polluted), the shaadi season – in full swing and family reunions are as inevitable as power outages in Karachi. It’s a time of nighttime weddings, daytime shopping marathons and power naps squeezed in between.

‘Tis the season when bazaars are bursting at the seams, hospital lobbies crowded with NRPs (non-resident Pakistanis) and shopping malls filled with too many heels but not enough balance. Wedding halls resemble Bollywood sets. The air smells distinctly of dulhans, guilt-free calories, and the occasional whiff of envy.

During these 4 months, the economy? Thriving. Traffic? Crawling—because every route takes a minimum of 40 minutes longer. Designers love it. Salon owners love it. Even florists and DJs are having the time of their lives. But, of course, it’s not all sunshine and sequins.

Shadi season is a state of mind. This isn’t just about love or union; it’s about flexing. Who wears the heaviest lehnga or books the grandest hall? Who hires a choreographer that makes your mehndi look like a Lux Style Awards production?
Oh, and let’s not forget the trend parade that changes every year. One year, it’s qawwalis, the next, elaborate game nights. And instead of replacing the old trends, Pakistanis just keep adding to the list like a toddler’s Christmas list. Next year, don’t be surprised if someone has a nikkah in a helicopter!

Shadi Season
Shadi Season

What used to be a humble Mehndi-Shadi-Valima trio has morphed into a wedding marathon:

  • Milads (because spirituality needs themed décor too)
  • Bridal Showers (imported concept; Pinterest-approved)
  • Game Nights (complete with FIFA tournaments and customised jerseys)
  • Dholkis (plural, because one just won’t cut it, at least 2)
  • Qawwalis (often featuring actual Coke Studio singers, because why not?)
  • Mehndi Lagai
  • Mehndi (because one wasn’t enough)
  • Nikkah
  • Shadi
  • Valima
  • Post-Shadi Dawats (Of course, we want to meet the couple after)

I once attended a wedding where they had an entire street food night. Stalls serving gol gappay and parathas—because nothing says “holy matrimony” like freshly fried calories. That’s it; that was the event.
Speaking of food, Pakistanis take wedding food very seriously. From sushi bars to whole roast goats, from waffles to live barbecue stations—there’s no culinary limit. The buffet isn’t just a spread; it’s an edible brag, who can get the most exclusive and expensive thing in the country. And don’t even get me started on the décor. Chandeliers the size of cars, flowers flown in from abroad and halls rented for sums that could clear half the national debt. Trust me, during the shaadi season, the sky isn’t just the limit—it’s the budget.

Hyper-Competitive Over-Hyped Weddings

Decemberistan isn’t just a vibe; it’s an industry. Pakistan’s wedding sector, according to unofficial estimates, rakes in PKR 2–3 trillion annually. That’s right, a country neck-deep in debt somehow manages to fund shaadis like Ambani. From PKR 1 million lehngas to floral arrangements flown in from Thailand, the average wedding budget is less a financial plan and more a cry for help. Here’s the thing about Pakistani weddings: they’re less about celebrating love and more about winning. Winning what, you ask? Who knows! Maybe a medal for having the most extravagant event in the history of events. But does it even matter?
This hyper-competitive, over-hyped spirit has pushed families to the brink, sometimes quite literally. Loans are taken, savings are drained, and all for what? For a few hours of oohs and aahs before your relatives inevitably criticise your ‘lack’ of hospitality.

For all its absurdity, Decemberistan is a testament to Pakistan’s indomitable spirit. We may be sleep-deprived, broke, and crushed under the weight of foreign debt, but we’re also celebrating life, love, and our ability to turn even the simplest of things into grand operas. So, here’s to Decemberistan—the land where winter isn’t just a season; it’s an Olympic sport. May your jhumkis be light (unlikely), your events on time (impossible), and your hair always perfect.

Who Will Coach Quetta Gladiators in PSL 10?

will-quetta-gladiators-replace-sarfaraz-ahmed-as-captain

The PSL buzz is real, and this time, it’s not just about the players. Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is on the brink of taking on a new role with Quetta Gladiators—not as a player, but as their head coach.

Yes, you read that right. Sarfaraz, who has been the heart and soul of the Gladiators since the league’s inception, is poised to return in a different avatar. This move comes amidst uncertainty surrounding Shane Watson’s availability as head coach for the upcoming PSL season.

Watson’s Exit Opens the Door for Sarfaraz

Shane Watson, the former Australian all-rounder, has been a crucial part of the Gladiators’ setup. His cricketing knowledge and leadership were instrumental in shaping the team’s strategies. However, the PSL’s revised schedule seems to have thrown a wrench in Watson’s plans.

Due to overlapping professional commitments, Watson has decided to step away from his coaching duties this season. His absence leaves a big gap, but it also presents an opportunity—an opportunity for Sarfaraz to step into the coaching spotlight.

Sarfaraz: The Gladiator Through and Through

For Gladiators fans, Sarfaraz Ahmed is more than just a player. He’s an icon. From the very first season, he’s been the backbone of the team. His leadership reached its peak in 2019 when he led Quetta to their maiden PSL title.

Let’s not forget his numbers. In 86 matches for the Gladiators, Sarfaraz scored 1525 runs at an average of 29.32, with seven half-centuries to his name. But stats only tell part of the story. His on-field presence and ability to rally the team were unmatched.

Even after he was replaced as captain in 2023 by South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw, Sarfaraz remained a fan favorite. And now, as reports suggest, he’s ready to give back to the team in a new way.

Why Sarfaraz Ahmed as Head Coach Makes Sense?

Sarfaraz Ahmed knows the Gladiators inside out. He’s been with the franchise through thick and thin. His deep understanding of the team’s dynamics and his experience in high-pressure situations make him a natural fit for the head coach role.

Moreover, his leadership style—calm yet commanding—resonates with the Gladiators’ ethos. He’s not just stepping into a coaching role; he’s stepping into a role that feels tailor-made for him.

Elon Musk Planning to Take Over Another Major Social Media Platform?

Source: XpressNZ

Recent reports have stirred the internet, stating that Chinese officials are holding talks to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations to billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. While ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has dismissed such claims as “pure fiction,” the speculation leaves many wondering what this could mean for the future of the app and what wider implications this may have.

The Dilemma of TikTok in the United States.

The short-form video-sharing platform has been at the receiving end of intense scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers and federal agencies because of national security concerns. Accusations that TikTok’s ownership by a Chinese company would compromise American user data led Congress to pass a bipartisan bill in April 2024 to ban the app unless it changed ownership. TikTok is now challenging the ban in the Supreme Court, saying it violates First Amendment rights.

Source: Reuters

As tensions continue to escalate, ByteDance’s options are only limited. A forced divestiture or a sale to a non-Chinese entity might be the only way in which it may not get a U.S. ban. Enter the speculative narrative of Elon Musk.

Musk’s role in the Rumors

It’s not too shocking that Elon Musk’s name is associated with TikTok. The owner of X (formerly Twitter) and a leader in the tech world, Musk’s acquisition of TikTok’s U.S. operations would further solidify his hold on social media. But that would likely draw regulatory pushback on grounds of monopolistic practices and whether Chinese officials would still have indirect control over the platform.

Read More: Elon Musk Awaits Govt Approval to Launch Starlink in Pakistan

Broader Implications

If Musk were to take over TikTok’s U.S. operations, it would certainly change the landscape of the platform in a lot of ways. On one hand, his involvement might assuage some U.S. national security concerns. On the other hand, critics argue that Musk’s existing ties to China, through ventures like Tesla’s extensive operations in the country, might complicate perceptions of independence from Chinese influence.

Additionally, a sale to Musk could disrupt TikTok’s sprawling creator economy. Content creators, small businesses, and influencers reliant on the platform might face an uncertain future as the app undergoes potential structural and policy changes.

A Developing Story

For now, ByteDance has flatly denied the reports of a possible sale. As the Supreme Court continues to deliberate over the fate of TikTok and geopolitical tensions remain high, the future of the app remains uncertain. Whether the rumours are fact or fiction, they underscore the growing complexities of balancing technological innovation, national security, and global economic interests.

What is the Pink Powder Being Used to Fight California Fires?

What is the Pink Powder Being Used to Fight California Fires?

A bright pink powder that covers rooftops, streets, and vehicles has become a common sight in Los Angeles as authorities intensify efforts to combat devastating wildfires. Known as Phos-Chek, this fire retardant has played a crucial role in containing fires and preventing further destruction. Here’s a closer look at what makes this substance effective and its implications.

What is Phos-Chek?

Developed by Perimeter Solutions, Phos-Chek has been the U.S. go-to fire retardant since the 1960s. The distinctive pink colour is not merely aesthetic; it allows pilots and ground crews to quickly identify areas treated with this chemical, thereby providing for very precise application. Time and exposure to sunlight will cause the colour to fade and become less distinguishable from the surrounding landscape.

What is the pink powder being used to fight fires in California? - BBC News
Source: BBC

Phos-Chek’s primary components include salts such as ammonium polyphosphate, which act by smothering the vegetation and other combustible materials. This retardant does not evaporate as water does and thus remains effective for longer periods. It forms a barrier that reduces the rate at which flames spread by suppressing the chemical reactions needed to sustain combustion.

How it Works

Phos-Chek does not lay on fires. It falls ahead of spreading flames, impacting vegetation to eliminate oxygen from a fire. Because of this, Phos-Chek is especially ideal for inaccessible places where ground troops cannot easily work.

However, its efficiency is limited to some extent because high winds break the aerial drops, scattering the substance and minimising its effectiveness. Despite these disadvantages, its hardness and efficiency have made it indispensable for wildfire management.

Environmental Issues

While Phos-Chek has proven effective against wildfires, environmental issues have also surfaced. Some of the chemicals contained in fire retardants have raised concerns for affecting wildlife and poisoning waterways as well as putting human health at risk. There are millions of gallons deployed annually.

Source: USA Today

In response, the U.S. Forest Service has switched to less toxic formulations and banned drops near sensitive ecological areas. Environmental advocates, however, are still pushing for more stringent regulations.

A Balancing Act

This trend towards fire retardants, such as Phos-Chek, indicates that it is time to take immediate action regarding the escalating rate of wildfires, primarily fueled by climate change. While these chemicals constitute a crucial barrier, their environmental implications highlight the need for developing sustainable firefighting strategies.

As Los Angeles and other wildfire-prone regions battle this challenge, Phos-Chek continues to be both a powerful ally and a subject of scrutiny in the fight against nature’s fury.

Pakistan Tightens Airport Travel Rules for UAE and Other GCC Countries

Pakistan Tightens Airport Travel Rules for UAE and Other GCC Countries

Pakistan has implemented stricter travel protocols at its airports to ensure compliance with international regulations, following a surge in deportations and travel violations. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport recently offloaded multiple passengers due to incomplete documentation, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing immigration issues.

Deportation Surge Raises Concerns

Recently, 52 Pakistanis were deported from different countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States, Sweden, and Oman. The deportations were due to various reasons, such as visa overstays, expired travel documents, and involvement in illegal activities like drug trafficking. Saudi Arabia alone accounted for 42 of these cases, reflecting stringent enforcement of immigration laws in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Source: Gulf News

Some of the deportees had administrative violations, while others were accused of more serious offences such as begging and presenting false documents. For instance, Sweden and the United States deported people for illegal stays and unauthorised entries, pointing to the need for increased travel compliance.

Airport Offloading Illustrates Gaps in Documentation

Karachi Airport has become a hub for travel enforcement as 13 passengers were offloaded recently for failing to meet the requirements of travel. Among those offloaded were Umrah pilgrims who could not produce hotel reservations or sufficient funds, and a worker going to Qatar without visa documents. Similar incidents included passengers trying to travel to Oman, Italy, Azerbaijan, and Tanzania without proper paperwork.

These measures aim to prevent passengers from encountering difficulties abroad, safeguarding Pakistan’s reputation and reducing the burden on host countries’ immigration systems.

Strengthening Regulations for Better Compliance

Among these measures for controlling unauthorised travel, the FIA has further enforced its controls. Authorities have focused on maintaining proper documentation, such as a valid visa, confirmation of accommodations, and proof of travel funds. Violations can lead to deportation or legal issues and should be avoided.

Deterring Violations

These developments act as a stark reminder for Pakistani travellers to follow the rules and regulations of travelling. Proper planning, documentation, and following visa conditions are a must to avoid any delay or denial at the airport.

In the process of Pakistan’s strengthening efforts to impose immigration rules, travellers are also advised to seek information about requirements at their destination. This would help them play a role in a hassle-free travel experience and in maintaining the country’s image abroad.

“I’m Done with PSL”: Ihsanullah’s Shocking Retirement Sparks Debate

mohammad-rizwan-favourite-cricketer-of-ihsanullah

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is no stranger to dramatic headlines, but this one feels different. Ihsanullah, the fiery pacer who dazzled fans in PSL 8, has announced his retirement from the league following his snub in the PSL 10 draft. And he didn’t hold back in voicing his frustration.

In a raw and emotional interview, the 22-year-old expressed his anger over being overlooked, vowing never to return to PSL. “I completely boycott it. I won’t be seen in the PSL again,” he declared.

From Rising Star to Overlooked

It’s hard to forget Ihsanullah’s electrifying performances in PSL 8. He took 22 wickets in just 12 matches, with an economy rate of 7.59. His fiery pace made him one of the most talked-about players of the season. But an elbow injury during an ODI series against New Zealand in 2023 derailed his momentum.

Read More: PSL 10 Draft Shockers: Big Names That Went Unpicked

Since then, his recovery has been a rocky road. Despite returning to competitive cricket in the Champions T20 Cup, his pace dropped significantly. It’s no secret that pace is his weapon, and bowling at 130-135 km/h instead of his usual 150+ hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The Controversy Over His Injury

Ihsanullah’s disappointment isn’t just about being snubbed—it’s deeply tied to how his injury was handled. Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Tareen, shed light on the issue, claiming that a botched surgery might have ended Ihsanullah’s chances of returning to his former self.

“It’s unfortunate. One person ruined a player’s career to hide his mistake,” Tareen revealed, adding that Ihsanullah’s arm might never be the same again.

Hearing this must’ve been devastating for the young pacer, who now faces a career crossroads.

“It’s a Selfish World”

Ihsanullah didn’t mince words when talking about the cricketing world. “It’s a selfish world with selfish people,” he said. He shared how no franchise reached out to him, not even Multan Sultans, the team he starred for in PSL 8.

His frustration is understandable. At just 22, he’s already experienced the highs of fame and the lows of being sidelined and forgotten.

“I just don’t want to play franchise cricket anymore. It’s over after today. I completely boycott it and retire from the PSL. I won’t be seen in the PSL again. I want to represent Pakistan by performing in domestic cricket, not by playing in the PSL,” he announced.

While fans were hoping for a comeback story, Ihsanullah has decided to walk away from the PSL altogether. He’s now setting his sights on representing Pakistan by excelling in domestic cricket.

“If you perform, they’ll come after you. I’ll bowl at 150-160 and show them I’m not the same bowler they doubted,” he vowed, clearly determined to prove his critics wrong.

A Debate for the Ages

Ihsanullah’s announcement has sparked a heated debate among fans and analysts. Should he have given PSL another shot? Or is his frustration justified?

One thing is clear: his story is far from over. Whether through domestic cricket or an international comeback, Ihsanullah has the drive to bounce back. And who knows? Maybe one day, he’ll make us all rethink what we believed about second chances.

Pakistan Earns a Spot in Financial Times’ 2025 Travel Picks

Pakistan Earns a Spot in Financial Times' 2025 Travel Picks

Pakistan has earned a place in the Financial Times list of “50 Holidays to Take in 2025.” The country’s stunning mountain landscapes and improved safety were key reasons for its inclusion.

Gilgit-Baltistan Takes Center Stage

Northern Pakistan, particularly Gilgit-Baltistan, has made it to the pages of the Financial Times with its spectacular sceneries and increasing tourist flow. The area boasts some of the tallest peaks in the world, attracting mountaineers, trekkers, and adventure seekers across the globe.

A visit to the Deosai National Park or the Sheosar Lake is enough to take anyone’s breath away.

Improved Access and Safety

The improved security situation has made northern Pakistan more appealing to travellers. Upgraded infrastructure and an increase in flights to Skardu and Gilgit have also boosted accessibility. These changes have encouraged more tourists to explore the area.

Easier Visas Attract International Travellers

In August 2024, Pakistan introduced free online visas for citizens of over 120 countries. This move has significantly simplified travel to the region, making it easier for international visitors to plan their trips.

Cultural Richness in Focus

Adventure isn’t all Gilgit-Baltistan is about; there is also culture, as the Financial Times has discovered. A guided 14-day tour run by Wild Frontiers promises to encourage travellers to learn more about the historical aspects of this area. To be precise, the tour includes 6 days of trekking into the adventurous and cultural heritage explorations.

Global Recognition on the Rise

This isn’t the first time Gilgit-Baltistan has been recognised. Earlier this year, CNN featured it in its “25 destinations to visit in 2025.” These titles and recognition are solidifying Pakistan’s blooming reputation as a must-visit location for global tourists.

Radio Pakistan has described this recognition as evidence of the country’s efforts to promote tourism. From developments of infrastructure to services, Pakistan is indeed on its path to becoming an absolute adventure and cultural tourism destination in the coming years.

PSL 10 Draft Shockers: Big Names That Went Unpicked

sarfaraz-ahmed-removed-as-quetta-gladiators-captain-psl-psl-10-draft-shockers-big-names-that-went-unpicked

The PSL 10 player draft was full of surprises, but perhaps the biggest shock came from the list of players who didn’t make the cut.

Some heavyweights of international cricket, along with local stars, were overlooked, leaving fans scratching their heads. Let’s dive into the unpicked players and what it means for them moving forward.

Sarfaraz Ahmed: The End of an Era?

For the first time since PSL’s inception, Sarfaraz Ahmed will not be a part of the league. The former Pakistan captain and Quetta Gladiators’ longest-serving player was released by the franchise earlier this month.

There was hope among fans that Quetta might bring him back during the PSL 10 player draft, but those hopes were dashed when Sarfaraz announced his departure a day earlier.

The buzz then shifted to Karachi Kings, his hometown team, but even they didn’t pick him. At 37, it seems like Sarfaraz’s PSL chapter might be closing. A tough pill to swallow for his loyal fans.

Tim Southee: A Platinum Snub

New Zealand’s seasoned pacer Tim Southee, who was placed in the platinum category, surprisingly found no takers.

Despite his vast experience and ability to bowl under pressure, none of the franchises showed interest in the veteran.

Maybe his high price tag was the reason, or perhaps teams prioritized younger options. Whatever the case, it’s a surprising miss for one of cricket’s most reliable bowlers.

Big Hitters Left Out in the Cold

England’s Jason Roy and Alex Hales, both known for their explosive batting, were also ignored. Roy, who holds the highest individual score in PSL history, and Hales, a consistent performer in T20 leagues, were glaring omissions.

Similarly, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman—both proven match-winners—were left unpicked.

The snubs didn’t stop there. South African spinners Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi, who could have brought variety to any team’s bowling attack, were also overlooked.

psl-10-draft-star-picks-surprises-and-the-final-squads

The wait is over! The PSL 10 draft took centre stage at the historic Huzoori Bagh in Lahore, where all six franchises finalized their squads for the upcoming season. With a mix of big names, wild cards, and some unexpected moves, the draft left fans buzzing with excitement. Let’s break it all down.

Lahore Qalandars

The two-time PSL champions stuck to their core, retaining Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman in the platinum category. Their only new addition at the top level was New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell. A safe, sensible choice, don’t you think?

Lahore also roped in Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera for some extra firepower at the top of the order, while Asif Ali has joined the franchise to bolster the lower order. With a mix of young guns and veterans, their squad looks balanced and ready for another title run.

Squad: Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and Daryl Mitchell (all platinum), Haris Rauf, Sikandar Raza and Kusal Perera (all diamond), Abdullah Shafique, Jahandad Khan and Zaman Khan (all gold), David Wiese, Asif Ali, Asif Afridi, Muhammad Akhlaq and Rishad Hossain (all silver), Momin Qamar and Momin Azab (both emerging), Muhammad Naeem, Salman Ali Mirza and Tom Curran (all supplementary).

Karachi Kings

Karachi Kings made a splash with Australia’s veteran opener David Warner as their marquee platinum pick. Adding New Zealand’s Adam Milne and Pakistan’s rising star Abbas Afridi completed their platinum trio.

But wait, there’s more. In the supplementary rounds, they snagged Kane Williamson and Mohammad Nabi—two seasoned campaigners who could be game-changers. With a mix of experienced internationals and local talent, Karachi is banking on their depth this season.

Squad: David Warner, Abbas Afridi and Adam Milne (all platinum), James Vince, Hasan Ali, Khushdil Shah (all diamond), Shan Masood, Muhammad Irfan Khan and Aamir Jamal (all gold), Arafat Minhas (brand ambassador), Tim Seifert, Zahid Mahmood, Litton Das and Mir Hamza (all silver), Fawad Ali and Riazullah (both emerging), Omair Bin Yousuf, Kane Williamson, Mohammad Nabi and Mirza Mamoon (all supplementary).

Quetta Gladiators

Quetta surprised many by picking Faheem Ashraf in their first pick of the Platinum category after using Wild Card. They bounced back in their next two picks by roping in New Zealand’s Mark Chapman and Finn Allen, adding a touch of explosiveness.

And just when you thought they were done, they picked up Shoaib Malik in the supplementary round. Talk about adding a veteran to steady the ship! Quetta’s lineup has a mix of fire and experience, making them a team to watch.

Squad: Finn Allen, Faheem Ashraf and Mark Chapman (all platinum), Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Amir and Rilee Rossouw (all diamond), Akeal Hossein, Mohammad Wasim Jr and Saud Shakeel (all gold), Khawaja Nafay, Usman Tariq, Haseebullah Khan and Khurram Shahzad (all silver), Kyle Jamieson and Hasan Nawaz (both emerging), Mohammad Zeeshan, Danish Aziz, Kusal Mendis and Sean Abbott (all supplementary).

Peshawar Zalmi

Zalmi kept it simple, focusing on quality over quantity as they used the right-to-match option to pick Tom Kohler-Cadmore, a proven match-winner, in the platinum category. With Babar Azam already in their ranks, this duo could light up PSL 10.

They added three exciting players, who can turn up the PSL 10 with their brilliance. Local power-hitter Abdul Samad was picked in gold alongside Bangladeshi speedster Nahid Rana.

Meanwhile, South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch was picked in Diamond. They may not have made flashy moves, but their lineup is quietly strong.

Squad: Babar Azam, Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (all platinum), Mohammad Haris, George Linde and Mohammad Ali (all diamond), Hussain Talat, Nahid Rana and Abdul Samad (all gold), Arif Yaqoob, Mehran Mumtaz, Sufiyan Muqeem and Najibullah Zadran (all silver), Ali Raza and Maaz Sadaqat (both emerging), Ahmed Daniyal and Alzarri Joseph (both supplementary).

Multan Sultans

The Sultans stayed true to their reputation of thinking outside the box. They picked New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell in platinum, followed by Mohammad Hasnain and Kamran Ghulam in the gold category. A perfect balance, isn’t it?

Their supplementary picks included Johnson Charles and Yasir Khan, giving them depth in both batting and bowling. With Mohammad Rizwan leading the charge, the Sultans are ready to chase another final spot.

Squad: Mohammad Rizwan, Usama Mir and Michael Bracewell (all platinum), David Willey, Iftikhar Ahmed and Usman Khan (all diamond), Chris Jordan, Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Hasnain (all gold), Faisal Akram, Akif Javed, Gudakesh Motie, Josh Little and Tayyab Tahir (all silver), Shahid Aziz and Ubaid Shah (both emerging), Muhammad Amir Barki, Johnson Charles and Yasir Khan (all supplementary).

Islamabad United

United made waves by picking Australia’s Matthew Short in platinum alongside their retained stars, Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah. The diamond category saw them snapping up West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder, joining Azam Khan and Imad Wasim in the category.

Rounding off their squad with experienced campaigners like Colin Munro, Rassie van der Dussen, and Sam Billings, Islamabad looks like a team that can go all the way.

Squad: Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah and Matthew Short (all platinum), Azam Khan, Imad Wasim and Jason Holder (all diamond), Haider Ali, Salman Ali Agha and Ben Dwarshuis (all gold), Colin Munro, Rumman Raees, Andries Gous, Mohammad Nawaz and Salman Irshad (all silver), Hunain Shah and Saad Masood (both emerging), Rassie van der Dussen, Alex Carey, Sahibzada Farhan, Riley Meredith and Sam Billings (all supplementary).

Fawad has come through the Karachi Kings’ player development program, “Khiladi Ki Khoj,” reflecting the franchise’s commitment to nurturing local talent. Riazullah, who impressed in the 2024 ACC U19 Asia Cup, was one of the tournament’s standout performers, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer with 227 runs at an average of 75.66.
