Fake Document Travellers to Thailand Face Blacklisting

Fake Document Travelers to Thailand Face Blacklisting

The Thai Consulate in Karachi has announced strict action against travellers submitting fake documents, including blacklisting violators. The guidelines emphasise the submission of authentic and verifiable documents, such as genuine airline tickets and hotel bookings, as part of the e-visa application process.

This comes after increasing instances of travellers using forged visas to travel abroad. Last October, the FIA Immigration team arrested two passengers at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport for attempting to travel with fake documents. One passenger was carrying a counterfeit Iraqi visa, while another had a fraudulent Cuban visa.

Thai authorities have warned both applicants and travel agents, who submit forged documents, of severe consequences, reinforcing the importance of adhering to legal travel protocols. The consulate’s measures aim to ensure safer and more secure travel while deterring individuals from violating immigration rules.

Deepak Perwani Says Neighbours Have ‘It Better,’ But Do They?

Deepak Perwani Says Neighbours Have 'It Better,’ But do They?

Pakistani fashion designer and actor Deepak Perwani recently made headlines for his remarks about life in India compared to Pakistan. In an interview on Haute Talk with Aamna Haider, Perwani shared his thoughts after visiting India. His comments garnered mixed reactions online, with some supporting him and others criticising him.

What Did Deepak Perwani Say?

Perwani praised India’s infrastructure and the freedom its citizens enjoy. He said women in India move freely and feel safe. He also noted how rickshaw drivers and cabbies use digital payment systems like UPI. On the other hand, he described Pakistani cities like Karachi as overcrowded, calling them “concrete jungles.” He also pointed out the lack of pedestrian-friendly spaces in Pakistan.

The Online Reaction

Who Is Deepak Perwani?

Deepak Perwani is a big name in Pakistan’s fashion industry. He started his fashion label in 1996, specialising in bridal and formal wear. Over the years, he has won six Lux Style Awards and received international recognition. He also holds a Guinness World Record for creating the largest kurta.

Apart from fashion, Perwani has acted in Pakistani dramas like “Mere Paas Paas” and “Kadoorat.” He has also served as Pakistan’s cultural ambassador in countries like China and Malaysia.

Is Perwani Right?

Perwani’s comments shed light on real issues Pakistan faces, like poor infrastructure and lack of safety for women. His observations highlight the need for self-reflection and improvement instead of taking offence. Criticism should lead to constructive conversations rather than personal attacks. After all, no country can grow without acknowledging its flaws.

On the other hand, critics argue that they unfairly glorify India while ignoring Pakistan’s strengths. Every country has its challenges, but comparing them without considering cultural, historical and economic contexts can seem oversimplified. Many feel his statements undermine the progress Pakistan has made and come across as dismissive of local efforts. Instead of highlighting only the negatives, he could have offered solutions or a more balanced perspective.

Deepak Perwani’s comments opened a conversation about the differences between India and Pakistan. While his observations sparked controversy, they also highlighted some critical issues. This debate shows the power of open dialogue and how important it is to reflect on national progress.

Winter in Pakistan feels like a festival of food. The chilly wind calls you to the markets, where fresh, colourful vegetables are piled high on every stall. These veggies don’t just taste great, they star in some of the best homemade dishes you’ll ever eat. From curries rich with flavour to crispy parathas that melt in your mouth, winter vegetables turn simple meals into pure joy. Let’s talk about five of the best seasonal veggies and the desi recipes that make them shine. These dishes are all about comfort, tradition and family time rolled into one.

1. Spinach (Palak)

Spinach is a winter staple in Pakistani households. It’s rich in iron, vitamins, and minerals, making it great for your health. One classic recipe to try is Palak Gosht. This dish combines tender meat with pureed spinach, cooked with garlic, onions, and spices. It pairs perfectly with chapati or naan, making it a wholesome meal. For a simpler option, sauté spinach with garlic and green chillies for a quick and flavourful side dish. Additionally, spinach is packed with iron and vitamins, making it great for boosting energy and supporting healthy blood circulation.

Social Media Shakeup: Meta Under Fire

Social Media Shakeup: Meta Under Fire

Facebook and Instagram users recently found themselves automatically following accounts linked to President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and even Melania Trump after the inauguration. The sudden appearance of posts like Trump’s “promises made, promises kept” and a photo of Vance swearing in Marco Rubio sparked confusion and frustration. Many Meta users have reported they hadn’t voluntarily followed these accounts but were nonetheless subscribed to them. This ongoing controversy questions transparency and user control over their digital experiences.

Adding fuel to the fire, pop star Demi Lovato voiced her concerns, sharing that her account repeatedly refollowed Vance despite her attempts to unfollow him. Since then other users have joined in. They have raised their voice, sharing very similar concerns. These incidents come at a time when Meta faces growing scrutiny for its policies and alleged political leanings. Critics argue the platform’s recent actions suggest a bias toward the current administration, a claim Meta has denied.

Policy Changes of Meta and Public Reactions

Meta has recently made several controversial changes, further intensifying backlash. For instance, the company ended its fact-checking programme and replaced it with a user-driven system akin to X’s Community Notes. CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended this shift, claiming the previous system was too politically biased. However, many users see it as a step backwards, potentially allowing misinformation to spread unchecked.

Additionally, Meta disbanded its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team, and ended its diverse slate approach to hiring. This policy has raised further concerns about the company’s priorities. The platform also updated its hateful conduct policy, permitting posts that label LGBTQ+ individuals as mentally ill. Zuckerberg argued these changes aimed to simplify guidelines. However, critics worry they open the door to harmful content such as hateful comments.

Adding to the controversy, Instagram temporarily blocked search results for hashtags like #Democrat, citing it as sensitive content. Meta claimed this issue affected hashtags across the board, including Republican ones, but many users found the timing suspicious. Social media expert Matt Navarra called the situation embarrassing. He has warned that such mistakes fuel conspiracy theories and erode trust in Meta’s platforms.

Growing Concerns About Platform Bias

These developments coincide with Zuckerberg’s apparent closeness to the Trump administration. He attended Trump’s inauguration and donated $1 million to the event, moves that critics interpret as aligning Meta with Republican leadership. Trump, who once criticised Meta for censoring right-wing voices, has since praised the company’s recent policy shifts.

For users, these incidents underscore growing concerns about the influence of tech giants on their online experiences. Many feel uneasy about what they perceive as manipulation and political bias. While Meta insists its actions are procedural and nonpartisan, public trust in the platform continues to erode.

Kite Flying, One-Wheeling and Aerial Firing Declared as Un-Islamic

Kite Flying, One-Wheeling and Aerial Firing Declared As Un-Islamic

Religious scholars in the country have issued a fatwa declaring one-wheeling, kite flying and aerial firing as un-Islamic. The fatwa emphasises that these life-threatening activities contradict Islamic teachings that prioritise the sanctity of human life. Scholars described these activities as highly dangerous and equated them to acts of self-harm.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran highlighted the fatalities linked to these practices, stressing that Islam forbids actions that lead to self-destruction. According to police records, 151 individuals have been arrested for one-wheeling and 150 cases registered for kite flying in just 20 days.

Additionally, 118 offenders involved in aerial firing have been jailed. The police vowed to continue strict action to curb these unlawful and life-threatening activities. Parents were urged to discourage their children from engaging in such harmful behaviours.

Kite flying and aerial firing, in particular, have caused numerous injuries and deaths due to sharp kite strings and stray bullets. Authorities and religious leaders called for community cooperation to uphold public safety and Islamic values.

Punjab Introduces New Subject Groups for Matric Students

Punjab Introduces New Subject Groups for Matric Students

Starting next academic year, the Punjab School Education Department (SED) will offer matriculation students new subject choices. These will go beyond the traditional science and arts streams, providing diverse and career-oriented options.

New Subject Groups for Students

The SED is introducing four new subject groups for ninth-grade students. These include health sciences, agriculture, information technology (IT) and entrepreneurship. Students can choose one group at the start of ninth grade and continue with it throughout matriculation. The goal is to align the curriculum with international standards and offer practical, career-focused education.

SED Secretary Khalid Naeem Wattoo shared in an interview, “We have introduced four new groups: agriculture, IT, fashion designing and health sciences. Students will also be imparted practical education, with 35 marks allocated for theory and 40 for practicals.”

Training Existing Teachers

The department will not hire new teachers for these subjects. Instead, existing teachers will receive training for the new curriculum. Mr. Wattoo explained, “We will train our current staff to meet the demands of these new subjects.” He added that the department already employs engineers and computer teachers, making this transition feasible.

Maintaining the Current Examination Framework

The total marks for matriculation exams will remain at 1,100, as confirmed by the SED. The new subjects will be integrated into the current framework without altering the overall structure.

Expert Opinions on the Change

Educationist Rana Liaqat expressed his support for these changes. He believes the new groups will bring much-needed diversity to the curriculum. However, he emphasised the importance of upgrading science and IT labs in schools.

“The government should also provide facilities for upgrading the science and IT laboratories in schools to benefit the students,” he said. He also mentioned that many existing labs are non-operational, depriving students of practical learning opportunities.

Mr. Liaqat further suggested appointing specialised teachers for agriculture, fashion design and textile groups. He advised the government to review the previous administration’s ‘Tech groups’ policy and ensure the new strategy delivers results.

Punjab’s initiative to introduce new subject groups for matric students marks a step toward a more practical and globally aligned education system. With proper teacher training and upgraded school facilities, this change could open new opportunities for students across the province.

Trump Pardons Ross Ulbricht, Creator of Dark Web Marketplace Silk Road

Trump Pardons Ross Ulbricht, Creator of Dark Web Marketplace Silk Road

In a most shocking move, former President Donald Trump has offered a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, known for creating one of the darkest corners of the web. Specifically Silk Road – the notorious marketplace which operated in the dark web from 2011 to 2013. Authorities charged him in 2015 with running narcotics trafficking operations, money laundering and hacking computers. This resulted in a double life sentence with no parole possibility.

Trump announced the pardon via his Truth Social platform, describing the case as a miscarriage of justice. “The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics weaponising government against me,” Trump claimed. He reportedly called Ulbricht’s mother to personally inform her of the decision.

The Story Behind Silk Road

Silk Road came to prominence as a secretive platform that could only be reached through the Tor network and supported anonymous Bitcoin-based transactions. Through this, buyers could access drugs, hacking tools and even forged documents. Prosecutors reported that before it was brought down by the FBI in 2013, Silk Road supported $200 million worth of illegal drug sales.

Operating under the alias “Dread Pirate Roberts,” Ulbricht was accused of making millions in Bitcoin while maintaining the site. Prosecutors also alleged that he solicited six murders-for-hire, although no evidence surfaced that these acts were carried out.

During his trial, District Judge Katherine Forrest described Silk Road as Ulbricht’s “carefully planned life’s work,” emphasising the significant consequences of his actions. She issued a harsh sentence to deter others from following in his footsteps.

A Divided Response

President Trump’s move reignited debate over Ulbricht’s case. Libertarian groups and some lawmakers, like Representative Thomas Massie, have long said that the punishment was excessive and reflective of government overreach. Massie praised Trump for fulfilling his promise to address the issue.

On the other hand, critics point to the scale of criminal activity enabled by Silk Road, arguing that Ulbricht’s actions had severe societal repercussions. The case has become a flashpoint in discussions about privacy, technology, and the limits of government authority.

What’s Next for Ulbricht?

With that pardon, Ulbricht can rebuild his life, which he has not seen in nearly a decade. The broader legal and political implications of the decision are likely to continue to prompt heated debate for years to come.

Rockstar’s GTA 6 May Cost $80-$100: Epyllion CEO Matthew Ball

Rockstar’s GTA 6 May Cost $80-$100_ Epyllion CEO Matthew Ball

Industry analysts suggest that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), the much-anticipated sequel to 2013’s GTA 5, may break price norms for video games by costing between $80 and $100. This prediction, made by Epyllion CEO Matthew Ball, highlights the potential for the game to set new pricing standards amid increasing development costs.

In a recent report on gaming trends for 2025, Ball indicated that Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster could “re-establish packed video game prices” after decades of price stagnation. He noted that video game prices, when adjusted for inflation, are historically low. A $70 price point for GTA 6, he argued, would, in real terms, make it the cheapest title in the franchise, with $91 being the inflation-adjusted average price. Ball attributed this stagnation to a combination of rising budgets and slower player growth, suggesting GTA 6 could be a turning point for the industry.

Read more: GTA 6: Rockstar Games Officially Reaffirms 2025 Release Date

High Price Justified?

Scheduled for release in fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, GTA 6 is expected to be the largest entertainment launch in history, with projected first-year revenue of $3 billion, including $1 billion in pre-orders. Its sheer scale and popularity could justify a higher price point, according to analysts.

However, this speculation has sparked debate. Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios, reacted on social media, emphasising the disparity between stagnant game prices and inflation-adjusted costs. He argued that while higher prices might address inflation, developers bear a responsibility to ensure that their games live up to player expectations and justify the investment.

As video game budgets soar and industry growth slows, GTA 6 could set a precedent for higher prices. Whether Rockstar will push past the $70 standard remains an open question, fueling further discussion about the value of modern gaming.

Bangladeshi Children Held in Secret Jails

Bangladeshi Children Held in Secret Jails

An inquiry in Bangladesh has uncovered shocking details about enforced disappearances under Sheikh Hasina’s government. The report revealed that children were among those held in secret detention centres, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

Children Held in Secret Jails

The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances revealed disturbing cases involving children. At least six children spent months in black site jails alongside their mothers. The report stated that babies were used as leverage during interrogations. For example, some infants were denied milk to pressure their mothers.

Pregnant Women and Families Targeted

The report also highlighted cases of pregnant women detained with their children. One pregnant woman, held with two young children, was beaten in custody. According to the commission, “This was not an isolated case.”

In another case, a family, including a baby, was detained. The baby was starved of its mother’s milk as a form of psychological torture to pressure the father during questioning.

Witness Accounts of Detention

The commission shared a testimony from a woman who was detained as a child. She showed investigators the detention room where she was held with her mother. The detention site was run by the paramilitary Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Sadly, her mother never returned.

Widespread Enforced Disappearances

The commission confirmed hundreds of cases of enforced disappearances, with around 200 people still missing. Women and children were often detained alongside male victims. These actions caused immense trauma for families.

The government at the time denied these allegations. Officials claimed many missing people had drowned in the Mediterranean while trying to reach Europe.

Holding Authorities Accountable

The commission said they will hold security forces accountable. Committee member Sazzad Hossain explained their approach: “In such cases, we will recommend holding the commander accountable.” He added that families of victims face ongoing challenges, such as psychological trauma and financial hardships.

The findings highlight the brutal actions of Sheikh Hasina’s government. The inquiry’s work brings hope for justice and accountability in Bangladesh.

The latest blow came when star pacer Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a back injury. Gerald Coetzee, another key fast bowler, has been ruled out of the SA20 league due to a hamstring injury and his availability for the Champions Trophy is uncertain.

Albie Morkel, assistant coach of the Joburg Super Kings, revealed the extent of the injuries. He revealed that nine South African fast bowlers are currently injured across all teams. “We are trying to find reasons why, maybe it’s the lack of cricket, I don’t know,” Morkel said.

Other injured fast bowlers include Nandre Burger, Lizaad Williams, Beuran Hendricks and Wiaan Mulder. Lungi Ngidi, who recently returned from an injury, missed the Pearl Royals’ match against the Joburg Super Kings on Monday, adding to the concern.

In a breathtaking celestial event, six planets – Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus, are likely to grace the night sky at the end of January, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

Is Babar Azam Pakistan’s Most Popular Star Since Shahid Afridi?

babar-azam-rewrites-history-books-in-third-ireland-t20i

In a cricket-obsessed nation like Pakistan, fans are passionate and vocal about their heroes. Over the years, many stars have emerged, each leaving their mark. But when it comes to raw fan appeal, Babar Azam is now being hailed as Pakistan’s most popular cricketer since Shahid Afridi, and none other than former captain Azhar Ali thinks so.

During a recent interview, Azhar didn’t hold back when discussing Babar’s impact on the game and his immense popularity. Despite often being critical of Babar’s captaincy, Azhar had nothing but praise for his batting.

A Balanced Critique

Azhar made it clear that while he has questioned Babar’s captaincy, his admiration for the batter’s skills remains unshaken. “I’ve criticised Babar a lot on his captaincy. He’s captained for so long, he should have built another team by now,” Azhar said candidly.

However, when the conversation shifted to Babar’s batting, Azhar’s tone changed. “But when it comes to batting, I say, please stop. He’s the only player from Pakistan who has given the country a name through his batting,” he added.

A Crowd-Puller Like No Other

Drawing comparisons with the iconic Shahid Afridi, Azhar highlighted Babar’s ability to captivate fans globally. “A normal, conventional batsman is getting cheered by the crowd. I’ve seen the first person after Shahid bhai,” Azhar noted, emphasizing that Babar’s classical batting style resonates with fans in a way that few conventional players have managed before.

For a player often compared to the explosive Afridi, Babar Azam stands out for a different reason. While Afridi’s power-hitting made him a global sensation, Babar’s elegant strokes and consistent performances have earned him respect and admiration across all formats.

The Critics and the Contributions

Azhar didn’t shy away from addressing the criticism Babar faces. Many argue that he hasn’t delivered in certain tournaments or as a captain. But Azhar urged everyone to look at the bigger picture.

Read More: Will Saim Ayub Be Ready for the Champions Trophy?

“Just see what he has done. You are focusing on what he hasn’t done. You are always looking for that,” he said passionately. He added, “The runs he’s scoring in all three formats… I should think he’s just too good. Just think about it.”

The Afridi Parallels

Shahid Afridi was a phenomenon. His aggressive batting style and larger-than-life persona made him a household name, not just in Pakistan but worldwide. For Azhar to compare Babar’s popularity to Afridi’s is a huge statement.

And it’s not hard to see why. Babar’s consistency with the bat, his calm demeanor, and his ability to shine under pressure have earned him a special place in the hearts of fans. Whether it’s his cover drives that leave commentators in awe or his ability to build innings in all formats, Babar is the complete package.

As Azhar Ali pointed out, it’s time we focus on celebrating Babar’s contributions instead of nitpicking his shortcomings. After all, players like him don’t come around often. So, what do you think? Is Babar Azam truly Pakistan’s most popular star since Afridi?

Shan Masood in the Mix: Will He Make Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Squad?

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner, and Pakistan’s selectors are busy finalizing their squad. With injuries, form slumps, and last-minute decisions looming large, one name is making headlines — Test captain Shan Masood.

Could Shan be the answer to Pakistan’s top-order woes in the Champions Trophy? Let’s dive into the buzz around his potential inclusion.

Why Shan Masood?

The talented left-hander has entered the conversation as a possible replacement for the injured Saim Ayub. Saim, who suffered an ankle injury during the Test series against South Africa, is currently in England under medical supervision. While he’s expected to return in early February, the management is cautious about rushing him back.

This leaves selectors exploring other options, and Shan Masood has emerged as a strong candidate. Though his ODI record isn’t extraordinary—163 runs in nine matches at an average of 18—his wealth of experience in one-day cricket, both domestically and in English county cricket, adds to his appeal.

Shan’s ODI Form and the Bigger Picture

Shan’s last ODI outing was against New Zealand in 2023, where he struggled to leave a mark. However, his ability to anchor an innings and adapt to different conditions could bring much-needed stability to Pakistan’s batting lineup.

Still, there’s a catch: Shan’s inclusion depends heavily on his performance in the ongoing Test series against the West Indies. If he delivers, his case for an ODI spot could become even stronger.

Another option for the top order is Imam-ul-Haq, who has been a reliable performer in ODIs. However, his recent inconsistency has kept selectors on the fence. Alongside Imam, emerging talent Haseebullah is also in the mix, making the battle for the opener’s slot even more competitive.

Who’s Locked In?

While there’s uncertainty around Shan and Imam, some names are already set in stone. Pakistan’s core group includes star players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Salman Ali Agha, Tayyab Tahir, and Irfan Khan.

In the bowling department, the pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf is expected to lead the charge. They’ll be backed by Mohammad Hasnain, Kamran Ghulam, leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed, and young spinner Sufiyan Muqeem.

Pakistan’s selectors have their work cut out. The final squad for the Champions Trophy must be submitted to the ICC by February 11, leaving little room for error.
