President Zardari, PM Shehbaz Mourn Death of Pope Francis

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed profound sorrow over the death of Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the Pope’s death, which came just a day after the pontiff made a rare extended public appearance following a 38-day hospital stay due to pneumonia. Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, passed away at the age of 88. He was elected pope on March 13, 2013.

In their official messages, both Pakistani leaders paid tribute to Pope Francis’ global influence and his enduring efforts to promote peace, interfaith harmony and human dignity.

President Zardari praised the Pope for his lifelong dedication to fostering interreligious dialogue, compassion, and peaceful coexistence. He also acknowledged the Pope’s deep commitment to social justice and his strong advocacy for marginalised communities. The president said Pope Francis would be remembered for bridging divides and nurturing mutual understanding across faiths.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, offering heartfelt condolences and recognizing the Pope as a global symbol of peace, love and mutual respect. He said the Pope’s teachings resonated not only with Christians but also with people of all faiths. The prime minister particularly noted Pope Francis’ recent appeals for a ceasefire in the Middle East as an example of his moral leadership.

Describing the Pope’s death as a significant loss for the world and especially the Christian community, the prime minister extended condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to the Vatican, Christians worldwide and all who were inspired by his message.

John Cena Makes History with 17th World Title at WrestleMania 41

John Cena Makes History with 17th World Title at WrestleMania 41

John Cena has achieved what most thought was impossible — becoming the first-ever 17-time world champion in WWE history. In a dramatic, emotionally charged battle at WrestleMania 41, Cena defeated Cody Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, shattering Ric Flair’s record of 16 world title reigns.

The bout, promoted as the “Showcase of the Immortals,” did not disappoint. Thirty minutes into a vicious back-and-forth, Cena, with an unexpected assist from rapper Travis Scott, was able to pin Rhodes and win the title. The crowd went wild as Cena stood tall, rewriting the WWE record books on what he says will be his last WrestleMania appearance.

Cena’s Last Ride?

This win wasn’t gold — it was about legacy. Cena has made repeated assertions that 2025 is his year of retirement, having informed the fans on SmackDown that Sunday would be “the last time I will ever compete in a WrestleMania ring.” In true Cena style, he went on to say, “No one has ever had the courage to end their career the way I have.”

However, even in retirement, Cena couldn’t help but make snide remarks about wrestling’s revolving door of returns: “There’s no such thing as a wrestling retirement,” he told us. “Every other wrestler is a scared, insecure loser.”

The Travis Scott Factor

Perhaps the most unexpected moment of the night was the entrance of Travis Scott, who not only hyped the crowd but also directly helped Cena secure the win. WWE fans were stunned as Scott, clad in Cena merch, distracted Rhodes just long enough for the 17-time champ to deliver the final blow.

Their backstage post-match celebration — shared far and wide on social media — created immediate buzz. It wasn’t merely a wrestling victory; it was a crossover cultural phenomenon.

End of an Era

If this really is Cena’s last match, he exits the ring not only as a champion, but as a legend who also rose above wrestling. From Tinseltown to charity work to the squared circle, John Cena has been a constant in showing us what it means to transcend.

And if this is goodbye, he ensured one thing: he didn’t merely exit on top — he exited by re-writing history.

Islamabad Beats Karachi Kings in PSL 10 to Remain Unbeaten

Islamabad United have asserted their dominance over the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 with a comprehensive six-wicket win against Karachi Kings, extending their record to four victories from as many games. While chasing a paltry 129, the team again demonstrated their strength in depth, with skipper Shadab Khan taking the lead with bat and ball.

After early wickets threatened to unsettle their chase, a composed 45-run stand between Azam Khan (31) and Shadab (47) steadied Islamabad. Despite Azam falling to veteran spinner Mohammad Nabi, and Shadab being bowled by Abbas Afridi with the scores level, Mohammad Nawaz ensured a smooth finish, nudging the winning single on the very next delivery.

Karachi’s Batting Falters Under Pressure

Karachi Kings, asked to bat first, suffered a horror start. Their top order, including big names David Warner (3) and James Vince (4), failed to fire. Tim Seifert offered a brief resistance with 30, but the middle order collapsed spectacularly, with four batters departing in single digits. Karachi were reeling at 102-7 before Abbas Afridi’s explosive cameo of 24 off just nine balls lifted them to 128 by the end of the innings. It was a total that never seemed up to standard against a buoyant Islamabad side.

Shadab Khan: Leading from the Front

Shadab Khan keeps demonstrating why he’s one of the league’s most valuable players. Not only did he lead the chase with a smartly paced 47 off 40 balls, but his captaincy and poise under pressure were on show throughout the match. With the ball, he assisted in putting the squeeze on early and made key fielding adjustments that strangled Karachi’s momentum.

Islamabad Firm at the Top

The victory takes Islamabad United to the top of the table for the first time, four points clear of second-placed Lahore Qalandars, albeit having played one game more. Meanwhile, Karachi Kings stay third but will be concerned about their fragile batting line-up as the season unfolds

Rank Team Matches Wins Losses Points Net Run Rate
1 Islamabad United 4 4 0 8 +2.947
2 Lahore Qalandars 3 2 1 4 +2.051
3 Karachi Kings 4 2 2 4 -0.014
4 Peshawar Zalmi 3 1 2 2 -1.033
5 Quetta Gladiators 3 1 2 2 -0.917
6 Multan Sultans 3 0 3 0 -2.941

With four games, four victories, and a confident dressing room, Islamabad appears to be genuine title challengers. If they continue like this, it could be their year.

PCB on the Look for New Head Coach as Aqib Javed Eyes New Role

PCB on the Look for New Head Coach as Aqib Javed Eyes New Role

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially opened the application process for a new head coach, signalling yet another shake-up in its coaching structure. The move follows as Aqib Javed end his tenure across formats, after a series of abrupt exits had previously left the role in limbo.

In a surprising turn of events, Javed, once considered the favourite for a permanent appointment, has now set his sights on a different, yet more strategic, position: Director of the High-Performance Centre. This development comes in the wake of the PCB’s internal reshuffle, particularly following Nadeem Khan’s departure, which left the role vacant.

New Coach Criteria: Experience Over Fame

The PCB is inviting applications from Level III qualified coaches with over a decade of experience coaching national or top-tier domestic teams. In contrast to previous pursuits of high-profile international names like Mickey Arthur and Gary Kirsten, insiders suggest the board may now lean towards a local candidate or a lesser-known international option. Budget constraints and a desire for grounded, long-term leadership could be influencing this shift.

A Restless Interim Period Comes to a Close

Javed’s interim spell, though temporary, spanned a critical period — from a challenging tour of Australia to a white-ball tour of New Zealand. He inherited a shaky setup but managed to keep it operational. His reluctance to continue as head coach, however, hints at deeper systemic frustrations — a recurring theme in Pakistan cricket.

What’s at Stake: More Than Just a Coach

With the ICC Champions Trophy on the horizon and a new T20 World Cup cycle underway, the timing of this vacancy is crucial. The new coach won’t just be managing talent — they’ll be tasked with rebuilding team morale, handling intense media scrutiny, and engaging a demanding fanbase weary of constant upheaval.

A Crucial Choice for Pakistan Cricket

The future of Pakistan cricket hangs in the balance as Aqib Javed leaved his position. Will the board finally adopt a long-term vision? Or will this be yet another fleeting chapter in its revolving-door coaching saga? Only time — and perhaps the next appointment — will tell.

Shadab Khan Hits Back at Critics, Backs PSL as Pakistan’s Top Talent Hub

salman-butt-questions-shadab-khan-selection

After Islamabad United’s dominant six-wicket win over Karachi Kings at the National Bank Cricket Stadium, Shadab Khan wasn’t just leading with the bat — he was leading with words too.

In the post-match press conference, the Islamabad United skipper didn’t hold back when asked about the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) role in shaping national team players — especially since some PSL stars often underperform on the international stage.

Shadab Khan, who played a match-winning knock of 47 off 40 balls, was quick to defend the league. And he did so with logic and calm confidence.

“Your best local talent plays in the PSL. That means those who don’t perform or aren’t even part of PSL are considered even lower in standard. So how can you judge fairly?”

In simpler terms, Shadab was saying: If the top-tier local talent is already in the PSL, then anyone outside of it is playing at a lower level. So why expect them to perform better internationally?

He also highlighted something a lot of fans can relate to: “As a nation, we’re too judgmental; this is something we need to overcome.”

The PSL is often blamed whenever the national team falters. But as Shadab Khan pointed out, the league is where Pakistan’s finest domestic players showcase their skills, often under high pressure and against world-class opponents.

If they’re struggling internationally, maybe it’s not about the league’s standard. Maybe it’s about how we manage player development, expectations, or even mental conditioning.

Let’s not forget the game itself. Chasing just 129 runs, Islamabad United made light work of it, wrapping up the chase in 17.1 overs.

It wasn’t a flashy knock from Shadab, but it was a captain’s innings — steady, mature, and timely. His 47-run knock guided his team home and showed once again why Islamabad is one of the most consistent franchises in PSL history.

Pope Francis Dies at Age 88

Pope Francis Dies
Pope Francis Dies at Age 88

Pope Francis, the first Latin American head of the Roman Catholic Church, has died at the age of 88, the Vatican confirmed on Monday. His death ends a 12-year papacy marked by reform efforts, health struggles and internal challenges within the Church.

In recent years, Pope Francis dealt with several health problems. He underwent surgeries and faced recurring medical issues, which often limited his ability to fully perform his duties. The Vatican has not yet released details about his funeral or how the next pope will be chosen.

On Sunday, just a day before his death, Pope Francis addressed the conflict in Gaza. He urged for an immediate ceasefire and spoke out against the worsening humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s military operations. During his Easter Sunday Mass in Vatican City, he called for peace, the release of hostages, and unity between Israelis and Palestinians. Thousands had gathered to hear his message.

Pope Francis became the 266th pope on March 13, 2013, after Pope Benedict XVI resigned. This was the first time in modern history that two popes lived within the Vatican at the same time. From the start, Francis took a different approach. He chose to live in a shared residence instead of the traditional Apostolic Palace, saying it helped his mental well-being.

His leadership focused on reforming the Church. He tried to address long-standing issues like child sex abuse and problems within the Vatican’s administration. He also promoted interfaith dialogue, social justice, and care for the environment. Many admired his humble lifestyle and his support for migrants, the poor, and other vulnerable communities.

However, his time as pope was not without criticism. Some conservative members of the Church felt he went too far in changing traditions, while some progressives believed he did not push reform far enough. Even so, Pope Francis remained one of the most influential religious leaders of the modern era.

He travelled widely, often using his visits to promote peace and unity. With his death, the focus now shifts to the College of Cardinals, who will begin the process of choosing his successor. Nearly 80% of the cardinals eligible to vote were appointed by Francis himself.

Top 10 Best Jobs in Pakistan: Careers Worth Chasing

The job market in Pakistan is anything but easy. With the unemployment rate soaring and inflation making matters worse, survival is becoming more difficult with each passing day. Gone are the times when people could pick and choose—and occasionally flunk—their way to success, purely on luck.

In this day and age, making a calculated career decision is essential. Whether you’re a fresh graduate or someone stuck in a dead-end job, here’s an honest list of the top 10 best jobs in Pakistan right now.

Best Jobs in Pakistan Currently

What was once considered a “top” career a decade ago might not even make the list today. Today, the nation is being shaped by these careers:

With demand across sectors—banking, auditing, corporate, and startups—this career is both stable and rewarding. Their demand is constant, and the salary reflects that.

Why it’s worth it: Exceptionally high return on investment. Companies compete for top-tier CAs.

That said, it’s not an easy path. Every good thing comes at a price. The career entails intense study, examinations, and long hours—mostly in the early years. If you can get through ICAP, you’re set for life.

Whether or not that’s fair is another debate, but there’s no denying the profession’s social respect. And if specialisation is chosen wisely, it pays extremely well too.

Why it’s worth it: Prestige, stability, and high income in private practice.

Still, there are no shortcuts. Years of demanding study and punishing shifts are part of the package. This career isn’t for those who give up easily or avoid risk.

Choose Smart, Not Safe

Choosing a career in Pakistan today isn’t about clinging to “traditional” paths. The most successful individuals aren’t just playing it safe—they’re playing it smart. They double down on what they’re good at and keep upskilling.

Ultimately, the best jobs are those that allow you to grow—not just financially, but professionally and personally. And just a bit of advice: start learning skills, not just collecting degrees. Pakistan’s job market is now favouring those who can do, not just those who know.

Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Northern Pakistan

Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Northern Pakistan
Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Northern Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms for Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan today. According to the latest update, these areas will receive scattered rainfall, offering some short-term relief from the ongoing heat. The rain will come with gusty winds and thunder, especially in the higher regions.

However, most of the country will stay hot and dry. Large parts of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan are already experiencing intense heat, and this trend is expected to continue. In the past 24 hours, Jacobabad recorded the highest temperature in the country at 43°C. Other cities also saw temperatures crossing the 40°C mark, increasing discomfort for residents.

Karachi, the country’s largest city, remains under a severe heatwave. The Met Office says this heatwave will last until April 23. With temperatures expected to stay above 40°C, Karachi residents will continue to face harsh weather with no signs of immediate relief. Authorities have advised people to avoid going out during peak hours and to stay hydrated.

While the northern regions might enjoy a break from the heat due to rain, the rest of the country will deal with dry and extremely warm conditions. The PMD has warned that the hot weather pattern will stay the same over the coming days. They also mentioned that the rainfall in northern areas will only be scattered and won’t significantly change the overall weather pattern.

This forecast highlights the contrast in weather conditions across Pakistan. Some areas may experience thunder and rain, while others continue to bake under extreme heat. The public is advised to take necessary precautions, especially in areas facing persistent heat waves.

Scorching Days Ahead: Karachi to Remain Hot and Humid

Scorching Days Ahead: Karachi to Remain Hot and Humid

Karachi Weather: Karachi is still witnessing severe heat and humidity as a heatwave tightens its grip on the city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning that this abnormal weather pattern will continue for the next 24 hours. The high temperature is predicted between 39°C and 41°C, with the minimum falling to 25°C.

The humidity level is at 46%, with northwesterly winds at 4 kilometres per hour. The hot weather will continue until April 23.

Heatwave Warnings Issued by PMD

On Sunday, PMD warned citizens of a heatwave-like condition. The lack of sea breeze and shifting directions of winds have led to a rise in temperature by 4°C to 6°C above normal.

The Deputy Director of PMD, Anjum Zaigham, said, “Hot to very hot and dry conditions are likely to prevail this time.” He added that northwesterly winds would temporarily stop the cooling sea breeze, worsening the heat.

Precautionary Measures Advised by Medical Experts

Due to the prevailing weather conditions, health experts strongly recommend that the public take precautions. Individuals are advised to remain indoors, particularly between 11 AM and 4 PM, the peak heat time.

It’s important to stay hydrated and out of direct sunlight. The vulnerable population, such as children and the elderly, is most at risk during this prolonged heatwave.

Dry Conditions Prevail Across Pakistan

Apart from Karachi, most plains across the country are facing dry and hot weather. The highest temperature recorded during the last 24 hours was 43°C in Jacobabad.

Meanwhile, a refreshing change occurred in Swat, Mingora, and surrounding areas, where heavy rain with thunder brought a pleasant shift in the atmosphere.

Rain and Wind Forecast in Northern Areas

Based on the latest reports from the Meteorological Department, thundershowers and strong winds can be expected over some areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Temporary respite from heat is possible there, but the southern plains and Karachi in general do not have any respite in sight till mid-week.

Stay Alert and Stay Safe

The authorities remain on the lookout for the weather. The citizens are encouraged to adhere to official advisories, stay hydrated, and avoid stepping out during the peak hours.

Karachi is still in a state of high alert, with the temperatures still breaching seasonal levels, prompting all to behave responsibly amid this difficult heatwave season.

A Saudi Arabia bus accident claimed the lives of five Pakistani Umrah pilgrims, including three women. The pilgrims were returning from a visit to the historic site of Badr and were on their way to Madina when their bus crashed. The heartbreaking incident involved passengers mostly from the Bahawalnagar district in Punjab.

The victims included Rukhsana Bibi and Amina Bibi from 228/9-R, Fort Abbas, two women from Dahran Wala, and an elderly man named Manzoor Hussain from 39/3-R. Muhammad Khalid, a relative of the deceased, said, “My sister and two cousins died in a bus accident while on their way to Madina from Badr.”

PCB’s Coaching Carousel: Search for Permanent Head Coach Officially Begins

aaqib-javed-on-sajid-khan-shaheen-afridi-south-africa-pcb-head-coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is back in the market, not for a player this time, but a permanent head coach. Yep, the board has officially opened up the position, posting a job ad on its website and kick-starting the hunt for someone who can bring stability to Pakistan cricket.

But why now? Let’s break it down.

Aaqib Javed’s Chapter Nears Its End

Aaqib Javed, who had stepped in as the interim head coach last year, is no longer in the running, by choice, apparently.

Initially brought in to handle white-ball duties after Gary Kirsten stepped down, Javed was later asked to take charge of all formats when Jason Gillespie also parted ways with the board.

He was expected to stay at least until the 2025 Champions Trophy, but that plan seems to have changed. The PCB gave him a short extension as the head coach for the recent New Zealand tour, but now, the board has decided not to carry on with him in that role.

Still, all might not be over for Aaqib Javed. Sources suggest he’s interested in becoming the Director of the High-Performance Centre, another key role that opened up after Nadeem Khan’s exit. The PCB has advertised for that position too.

What’s PCB Looking For?

Let’s talk about the job listing. According to the PCB’s criteria, they want someone with:

  • Level III coaching qualification
  • At least 10 years of experience coaching national or domestic teams

That’s a pretty high bar, especially considering the limited pool of former Pakistani cricketers who fit the bill. This shortage is reportedly nudging the board towards hiring a foreign coach, though this time, they may avoid chasing big-name personalities.

No Gary Kirstens. No Mickey Arthurs. Just someone who can do the job — consistently and calmly.

PCB vs Jason Gillespie: Who’s Telling the Truth?

video-of-pakistan-head-coach-jason-gillespie-goes-viral-pcb-likely-to-appoint-a-local-head-coach-for-all-formats

The rift between Jason Gillespie and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) just took a fresh twist. What started as a surprising exit from his coaching role has now turned into a classic case of “he said, they said.”

So, what’s going on? Let’s break it down.

Jason Gillespie Claims: Where’s My Money?

In a recent interview, Gillespie claimed that the PCB still owes him money for the work he did during his short stint as red-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s team.

“Yeah, without going into the details, obviously still waiting on some remuneration from work that has been done. So just navigate through that in due course,” said the former Aussie quick.

To be fair, he didn’t go into too many details. But it was clear from his tone — he’s not too happy with how things ended.

And honestly, who would be, if you’ve worked and feel like your dues are stuck in limbo?

PCB Hits Back: You Broke the Contract

But the PCB isn’t staying silent either. In fact, they’ve come out swinging. In a strongly worded statement, the board refuted all claims of non-payment, saying Gillespie “abruptly left” his role without fulfilling the agreed four-month notice period.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues,” the PCB said in a statement.

“The PCB spokesman states that the former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four-month notice period, which was a clear breach of the contractual terms.

“The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it.”

Basically, they’re saying: You broke the rules first, mate.

So, Who’s at Fault?

Right now, it’s one of those classic cricket off-field dramas — each side telling a different version of events. Gillespie says he’s owed money. PCB says he breached the contract and that’s why things got messy.

Unfortunately, the truth — like in most such cases — probably sits somewhere in the middle. But, no matter who’s right or wrong, one thing’s for sure — this isn’t the kind of news Pakistan cricket needs right now.

Let’s hope cooler heads prevail and this issue gets resolved quickly, without more back-and-forths in the media. The game, after all, deserves better than boardroom battles.

Easter in Pakistan: How the Country Celebrates the Festival of Life

Easter in Pakistan: How the Country Celebrates the Festival of Life
Easter in Pakistan: How the Country Celebrates the Festival of LifeEaster in Pakistan: How the Country Celebrates the Festival of Life

Easter in Pakistan might seem like a quiet ripple in the grand cultural landscape. But for the country’s Christian community, it is anything but quiet.

Despite the odds, Easter blooms across Pakistan each year as a vibrant celebration of faith, hope, and the triumph of life over death. From candlelit vigils in historic cathedrals to joyful street parades and intimate family feasts, Easter in Pakistan is a story of devotion that refuses to be dimmed. It is, in every sense, the festival of life.

A Minority’s Celebration in a Majority-Muslim Nation

Christians make up a little over 1.5% of Pakistan’s population, yet their cultural and religious contributions are significant. They are mostly found in cities like Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Faisalabad.

Easter or “Eid-e-Paascha” (as it’s called locally) is the most important day on the Christian calendar. Despite their minority status, Christians in Pakistan prepare for Easter with remarkable devotion. The weeks leading up to Easter are marked by the solemn observance of Lent, culminating in the emotional journey through Holy Week: Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and finally, Easter Sunday.

How Easter is Celebrated in Pakistan

The spiritual cornerstone of Easter in Pakistan is undoubtedly the church service. Churches are adorned with white lilies, candles and draped cloths representing purity and resurrection. Easter Vigil services held on Saturday night or early Sunday morning are deeply emotional, often accompanied by candlelight processions, choral hymns in Urdu and Punjabi, and thunderous cries of “Yesu Zinda Hai!” (Jesus is alive!).

These services are not mere rituals—they are acts of hope. In a country where religious minorities often face marginalisation and security threats, the act of congregating in worship is as much a declaration of faith as it is of courage.

After the service, celebrations continue in homes and neighborhoods. Families come together to share meals, often rich with local flavors like biryani, chicken curry and sweet treats like suji ka halwa. Easter eggs and cakes have also found a place in some urban Christian households.

Christian youth also organise plays in this week to relive the story of the crucifixion. Many community organizations hold special Easter events, offering food to the underprivileged, holding prayer meetings, or hosting sports events for children. It is both a celebration and an outreach.

Resilience and Reverence Amid Challenges

Easter in Pakistan is not celebrated without its challenges. Christians often face economic disadvantages and are sometimes targets of discrimination and violence. Church bombings in the past have cast a long shadow, and tight security during Easter services remains a grim necessity.

But even within this context of adversity, Easter is a vivid reaffirmation of life and resilience. It is a statement that hope cannot be silenced, that faith persists even in the margins. The Pakistani Christian community, often overlooked in national narratives, uses Easter to not only celebrate the resurrection of Christ but also to resurrect its own visibility, pride, and collective strength.

People mourn over the coffin of a victim a day after a suicide bomb attack at a park, in Lahore, Pakistan. At least 70 people, including women and children, were killed in an attack that targeted a public park in Lahore

A Call for National Inclusion

The broader Pakistani society, while largely respectful of religious diversity, still has a long way to go in embracing and celebrating its Christian community’s traditions as a part of the national fabric. Easter should not remain a footnote in the country’s religious calendar; it should be recognized for what it is—an affirmation of life, faith, and human dignity.

Some progressive media outlets and civil society groups have begun highlighting Christian festivals, but such gestures need to become mainstream. Just as Muslims rightfully expect global recognition of Eid, Christians in Pakistan deserve the same level of acknowledgment and support for Easter.

The Celebration of Survival and a Festival of Life

In Pakistan, Easter is more than a religious observance; it is a celebration of survival, a declaration of hope in the face of hardship, and a testament to a community’s enduring spirit. It is, quite literally, the Festival of Life.

By honouring this day, Pakistan not only uplifts a marginalised community but also takes a step closer to the inclusive, pluralistic society it aspires to be.

CCTV Shows Armaghan Firing at Police During DHA Raid

CCTV Shows Armaghan Firing at Police During DHA Raid

Recently released CCTV footage from Armaghan Qureshi’s house shows Armaghan firing at police team during a raid at his residence in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The footage clearly shows a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) getting shot and injured. It also shows Armaghan, the main suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case, with a girl during the incident.

In the video, Armaghan is seen firing an automatic weapon at police officials while talking on the phone. The police were cutting the grill at a stairway gate during the raid when the firing started.

The case is linked to the alleged kidnapping and murder of Mustafa, a BBA student who went missing on January 6. Police later found his body in a car near the Hub checkpost on January 12. The Edhi Foundation buried the body on January 16. A three-member medical board, under the supervision of a judicial magistrate, later exhumed the body for further investigation.

The incident at Armaghan’s house happened in February when a team from the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) tried to raid his residence. AVCC is a special Karachi police unit that deals with murder and extortion cases.

Money Laundering and Fraud Allegations

Following the raid and shooting, the AVCC expanded its investigation and contacted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to look into a call centre found at Armaghan’s home. A day earlier, the FIA had registered another case against Armaghan. The FIR, filed by the agency’s anti-money laundering circle, accused him of running a hawala-hundi network, illegal cryptocurrency transactions, and online fraud.

The FIR also stated that Armaghan, along with his father, had set up a company in the US to operate the hawala-hundi business. In addition, in 2018, he established an illegal call centre that ran a “organised network” of online scams in the United States.
