Pakistan’s biggest international airport, Quaid e Azam International Airport was supposed to be inaugurated on Independence Day, 14th August 2017.

Now according to reports, the new launch date is November 2, 2017

Federal capital would be connected with new Islamabad international airport through a six-lane road by December 31, 2017.

Reasons for the Delay

The delay is said to be caused due to the incomplete link roads that connect the airport with the city. These link roads are being laid by National Highway Authority (NHA).

The NHA has now given the commitment to complete the link roads by November 2017.This was revealed in a Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat which was headed by Talha Mehmood on Tuesday, 25th July, 2017.

He addressed the committee on the inaugration of the airport and announced

“due to flawed planning by NHA, link roads are still not completed and now the Airport would be inaugurated in December 2017”

The New Islamabad Airport

Mr. Talha said that new Islamabad International Airport project was initiated in 2007 with an estimated cost of Rs. 32 billion, but due to flawed planning, it was delayed repeatedly, especially after the controversy of runways being constructed too close together.

About the Airport:

It is estimated to serve 4,500 people simultaneously and has 15 aircraft parking bays with the ability to dock two Airbus A-380 planes. This surely makes it the stand out air hub in Pakistan.
