Google has honored legendary Pakistani ghazal singer, Mehdi Hassan on his 91st birthday. The company is known for giving out-of-the-box tributes to well-known personalities to mark their day.

In the past, and time and time again, the world’s biggest search engine has honored several Pakistanis including Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abdul Sattar Edhi, Noor Jehan, Nazia Hassan and others.

Known as the ‘Sultan of Ghazal’, the singer became his carer in 1957 as a thumri singer. After this, his career reached new heights and he became of the greatest. Mehdi was also honored many awards including Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan.

He passed away in 2012 in Karachi from illness.
