On Monday, the New York Times reported that Walt Disney’s Kevin Mayer had exited the company. The reason behind his resignation was the offer made by TikTok App for the CEO position.

While speaking to Disney over the phone, Mayer explained, “I was happy with my job at Disney, The magnitude of this opportunity was just something I couldn’t pass up.”

From the conversation, we know that we might not see Mayer post videos of himself on TikTok. However, there is an expansion cited in gaming and music.

A Republican from Missouri, Josh Hawley tweeted, .@tiktok_us previously told me they couldn’t attend hearings and testify because executives were located in #China. But this new executive lives in the USA. I look forward to hearing from him under oath.

The US government has been having trust issues with the tech giant amidst its popularity in the region.

According to data collected by app data firm, SensorTower, the Chinese app has been downloaded about 1.9 billion times worldwide. The United States has downloaded the app 172 million times alone.

The popularity of the app has increased in the first quarter of 2020, due to the ongoing pandemic. It was downloaded 307 million times, which is more than any other app in the world.

A TikTok spokesman emphasized that a Beijing-based company did not own TikTok. It is owned by ByteDance Ltd., which is incorporated in the Cayman Islands.

The spokesperson didn’t further reveal the number of people but said the ‘entity’ owns the popular app and also the businesses in China.

Mr. Mayer to Remain in Los Angeles

The question arises of either Mr. Mayer will be moving to Beijing, China, to take full control of operations. The spokesperson answered that he would remain in his current residence in Los Angeles, California.

However, he will frequently travel to Bytedance’s headquarters in Beijing. Other than that, he will also travel to TikTok’s primary offices in New York, London, Japan, and India. The resignation was expected as Mr. Mayer was recently swept off a top job opportunity at Walt Disney.
