As the world faces the spread of the Coronavirus, many have been finding ways to protect themselves from this fatal virus, globally.

However, as the virus has now spread in Pakistan, there has been a massive shortage of these masks. Moreover, not only that but even if the masks are available online or at medical stores, the price is literally touching the skies!!

How sad is the fact that instead of protecting our people, we’re cashing in a dreadful situation? This is wrong on so many levels.

But for those who can’t afford these expensive masks or unavailable to find them, here are a few alternatives we can use to protect ourselves as much as we can.

1. DIY Cloth Mask

Yes, you can easily make one at home using a piece of cloth, thread and elastic. How awesome is that?

2. DIY Tissue Paper Mask

Speaking to Dr. Bushra Jamil, Professor of Infectious Diseases & Internal Medicine at AKUH, President, Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan, here’s what she had to say about this alternative when Team Brandsyanrio asked her how effective is this alternative,

Pore size is important. Dont know the size of pores on ordinary tissue paper. This contraption would be useful if it prevents you from touching your face, mouth, nose and eyes

Yes, you can thank us later. But we want you to stay healthy and keep you protected from this deadly virus.

False news warning:

There’s are a couple of messages circulating on social media claiming how to wear a surgical mask the right way which is the colored side facing outside if you’re sick and the white side outside if you want to “stop the germs from getting in”.

This is absolutely false according to Medical Mythbusters Malaysia, an NGO. There’s only ONE WAY to wear a surgical mask which is the white side should be worn inside.

Here’s the proper way of wearing a mask!

Here’s how it actually functions:

The function of the blue/green layer blocks germs from sticking to it. If you wear the mask the other way, the moisture from the air will stick onto it, making it easier for germs to stay there.
